It doesn’t steam up properly. It doesn’t iron out creases. Don’t buy it.
smooth ironing, no built up, controlled steam, lasts for years
This iron is great. Easy to use just glides over clothes and bedding. Very pleased with it.
First time ever using a steam generator iron and wow!! Completed what would normally be four maybe five hours of ironing within one hour or just under! Definitely purchase this if you have lots of ironing to do it makes it so much easier.
I love ironing and can honestly say nobody would be disappointed with this iron. I had my last steam iron for 15yrs. Times change and this is much lighter, easier to store and carry, plus does a great job. Big plus is the descaler attachment.
I’m very happy with the performance of the iron and it’s a very good price.
Very lightweight easy to use great steam with 3 settings good buy
Don’t do much ironing wife say it’s vgood made ironing a lot easier and easy to store
I used to have just normal iron but since I get this I started to like ironing 😉 it is powerful, very easy to use, working smooth and ironing is much quicker then with standard iro
Superb iron. Heats up fast, lightweight and glides effortlessly across garments. Easy to fill the water reservoir and change the settings, control the steam etc.
I love this iron.
takes creases and wrinkles out of clothes in no time by gliding over them so smoothly.
An excellent product that is well worth the money.
5 stars and highlight recommended.
Personally, I have always used irons with the water stored within the actual iron. Usually, that hasn’t been a problem but my iron was struggling with certain things like bedsheets and jeans, so I decided to give a steam generator iron a go.
After using this for about a month I am happy to say that it outperforms my previous iron by a wide margin. It’s able to get creases out of my jeans in a few seconds and the iron plate is so much smoother than my previous iron it easily glides over anything I have used it on. It’s also quite a bit lighter than my previous iron which is good because I tend to iron everything in one go. The only downside for me is that size, the base is quite big and storing is a bit of an issue compared to a standard iron. I have jiggled a few things around to make room so keep that in mind.
Overall I am really happy with it and will definitely be keeping it going forward and will be buying steam generator irons from now on!
Great! Light, quiet and big water tank. Also a clip to tuck the cable and plug into.
A steam iron is just a life saver! It makes ironing shirts and school uniforms much easily and less like a chore. With the steam and the pearl infused plate it makes the iron glide across clothes. I have joint hypermobility syndrome and I worry about heavy irons, because of the technology and how it glides it doesn’t feel heavy therefore doesn’t irritate my wrists or finger joints when using.
It works well both on a high and low setting, the low makes me worry less that it will stick to the clothing but even on the high setting I had no problems at all. On the high setting I was able to steam a dress vertically and the wrinkles just dropped out.
The steamer itself is very stylish and doesn’t look bad on the side, some irons look hideous on the side but this one doesn’t at all. The colours look nice with the pearly pink colour. It is well made and feels sturdy. The cables are solid and have a good length on them too.
Russell Hobbs has more different types of steam powered irons than I can count. There are newer versions of older models, but it also releases specific models which feature a new technology. Here it’s the pearl infused soleplate.
While the name makes me wonder what pearls got to do with an iron’s soleplate, it suggests a certain analogy. Pearls are very smooth, so the iron should glide on clothes with ease. And it really does.
It’s quite a sizable item. Not the iron itself – that is actually super light and slimmed down. Looks and feels almost like an outdoor iron. The base makes up for the size though.
Surprisingly it sits on the metal plate of my ironing board so tightly that I think it would only have fallen if I knocked the whole board down. The whole set weighs around 5kg. Not a lot considering the size.
I never had a steam powered iron before. I do naturally have a decent Braun iron with a built-in steam generator. So what do I need this new one for?
Well to put it simply – where my iron’s steam abilities end, the Russell Hobbs iron begins.
On the lowest level it generates a similar amount of steam to the old iron with the maximum setting. Do I need so much steam? If I need steam at all then the answer is ‘yes’.
I know the video is rather dark, but I was stunned how easily I managed to iron my blue shirt. And that was the lowest setting! With the old iron I had to make numerous rounds over the same patch of material, to achieve the same effect as literally one glide here. Very impressive.
On the highest of four settings the iron works like a vertical steamer. It’s not recommended to use the board in that setting while pressing the steam button. It will generate too much moisture in the clothing. You just steam it in the air and then iron wrinkles without steam if still required.
The pearl infused soleplate is my favourite. It is incredibly smooth and together with the iron being lightweight, it glides effortlessly through any material. I haven’t tested its resistance to scratches yet. Hopefully it’s better than any other iron out there.
I have to say that although the set is pink (not very manly), it actually looks pretty nice. You can judge yourselves – plenty pics available.
Are there any negatives? As I said this is my 1st steam iron, so it’s hard to distinguish between a flaw and industry standard. One thing is that the iron takes a moment to heat up and then takes an additional almost 1 minute to generate steam. You can hopefully hear the thumping noise in the video. The producer seems to have the 1 minute timing on their list of positives, so perhaps it’s actually fast compared with competition
The power is good. 2600W is in the higher region amongst irons and will help with those really stubborn clothes. The temperature is of course adjustable.
The build quality is worthy of Russell Hobbs. Good plastics, solid braided cables and a nice cable storage system. And of course the smoothest soleplate
There is no limescale cleaning setting. The base has a filter which you should wash after possibly each ironing, to keep things in good order. It’s that yellow twisted circle in one of the pictures. Very easily accessible. The water tank is also easy to fill up and mount/dismount.
The price of this set actually went up which always annoys me. Not by a huge lot though – from 99 to just over 107 currently. I can live with that. And while it’s nearly twice the price of a good quality ‘standard’ iron, it’s actually pretty low priced looking at competition, and even some other models from Russell Hobbs. I’m happy to recommend this steam iron.
Thank you for reading my review. I hope you found it helpful.
This is a beautifully designed iron, very light and comfortable to use that really does just glide over fabric. Now that I have retired I have the time to indulge in ironing our sheets, I no longer have to iron my shirts, but I do like nicely laundered bedding. I have ruined many a steam iron in the past by getting residue from some transfer or other coating the sole plate. Then I would get scratches on the sole plate from zips, buttons, etc. This iron is going to be reserved only for linen as I found it so easy and the sheets and pillow cases have never looked and felt so good.
The instructions are only in English and I recommend reading them from beginning to the very end, there is essential information throughout. I’ll just mention some aspects that I did not appreciate until I read about them. 1) The base unit should not be placed on a soft, carpeted or upholstered surface as this may block the vents underneath the base unit. I did wonder where to place it but my ironing board has a metal fitting for an iron, so I placed it on that and it didn’t unbalance the ironing board despite having a full reservoir of water. I found replacing the iron onto its stand quite easy and I was relieved to see that it wasn’t going to scratched on the stand as it ‘silicone’ grips holding it safely in place.
Other important sections that were new to me are the anti-scale cartridge and the filter. We used to live in a very hard water area. Russell Hobbs have estimated the life of the cartridge in a soft water area which is about 100 uses. There is no indicator to alert you when the cartridge needs to be replaced. If I was still in a hard water area and doing the ironing once a week I would change the filter once a year, that way I would be on the safe side. If you use the iron without changing the cartridge it can damage the appliance and the guarantee will not cover the damage to the iron. I’m so glad that we are in a soft water area now as I can just need to change the cartridge every two years.
The filter does have a warning light which will flash when you need to clean it. It is recommended that depending on the water hardness in your area you should do this every 6 uses. All useful and important stuff which is good to attend to in order to enjoy this great iron for many years to come. The designers really have thought of everything.
At the current price of 107.47 it is excellent value for money as it turns ironing from a chore to a pleasurable activity. The designers have done their bit to ensure that the sole plate is protected now I have to take care of the anti-scale cartridge and filter and I guess that it will out-last me. I recommend it.
This steam iron comes packaged well in a cardboard box and uses the eggcase cardboard pieces inside to keep everything in place and prevents it being damaged in transit. This gorgeous steam iron features a nice braided thick cable for the pipe connected to the water tank and a smaller reasonable lengthed cable for the plug. The side of the steam iron features a plug socket opening allowing you to coil your wire (anti clockwise recommended) around the steam iron and insert into the faux socket to keep it in place. The thicker wire can be wrapped and inserted at the other side which has a clip to house the wire.
The design features a nice light purple and white with a translucent black for the water tank. This design is prominent across the board and I really like how it looks. The great use of pastel tones makes this look like a nice homely product and inspires the same level of delicate handling as the job it does. That pearl ceramic plating just looks incredible though.
You can pull out the water tank from the bottom and has a handle to hold it by. The max line is clearly depicted on the tank so you can’t really overfill and it’s easily inserted back into the front. The product has a filter which you can see in the photo when the water tank is removed. It’s recommended to clean ever 6 uses and can be removed easily by turning to the unlock position. This along with the white cartridge you see in the tank help with lime scale protection as it prevents any buildup meaning no need to have to worry about dealing your product. The cartridge is good for about 100 uses and then a replacement is required which is not included and has to be purchased. I found a few online for about a tenner but Russell Hobbs recommends going to them directly for an authentic product. Not sure on how much it costs directly though so I can’t comment. Assuming you use the iron twice a week, then it’s safe to say you’ll get about a years worth of usage before you need to replace. As for the filter, the steam iron (according to the manual) tells you it’ll give a visual indicator via a light to indicate when it needs washing. Keeping your filter clean helps effectly protect the device.
Let’s talk about the usage though for now. It heats up fairly quickly and on first use, do test on a spare cloth to get any residue off it. It works so well though and the iron feels so light since there’s no water in the iron itself. It does take a few seconds for it to get into the system as the pressure builds and circulates first so don’t expect it to work right away as soon as it’s turned on.
I found this helped get out wrinkles a million times easy vs dry ironing and even with dry ironing and slapping that steam button, this one out performed it. The water can easily be refilled if needed but just allow it to reheat again. If you are going to dry iron first, it’s recommended to do this first, THEN fill with water and do your steam ironing.
The handle is comfortable and the instructions are very easy to follow. Steam level can be adjusted very easily via the dial. The iron takes a bit of getting used to place back onto the steam iron when not in use as it’s a snug fit but can be awkward at first. After you get the hang of it, it stays in place via the rubber grips.
The iron features a nice auto-shutoff feature so if you did leave it running, it will auto switch off if the steam button isn’t pressed. This is reassuring if you’re in a rush and getting things done fast as that added level of safety just feels good to have.
The bottom of the Steam iron features some rubber feet and I think this is one of the drawbacks for me, albeit minor. These rubber feet keep coming out. I’m not sure if it’s because of it being moved or if they weren’t stuck in properly. I’ve had various different ones fall out and have to be slotted back in again.
The other drawback is the clip at the side to hold the larger wire can be a bit difficult to keep all the wire in and I think it’s great it was included but a bit of a faff to get in properly.
Overall I’m very impressed with the steam iron and the issues I’ve outlined are minor at most. The colour and design of this is great bar the 2 drawbacks above. It’s well thought out and made with good quality and best of all it just WORKS without having to run over creases again and again. It’s a lot stronger than a standard iron and I’m sure that’s reflected in the price but I’m very happy with this Russell Hobbs steam iron and would definitely recommend it as a weekly driver.
Great steam iron, work lovely and glided over the clothes with ease.
