Lately have found the bread we buy in the supermarket tqastless and it didn’t stay fresh for long. Having bought the bread maker have tried a few of the recipes included in the purchase. Found them all to be easy to make and so much nicer thn bought bread. Should have bought it earlie
Bought this bread maker as it had decent reviews and was affordable. Have used it three times so far and pleased with the results. Fast bake setting is OK but programmes give better taste and results. This is a good introduction model to bread making, would recommend giving it a try.
Best thing I’ve actually brought makes amazing breads and all different types
Making bread it is excellent apart from the paddle staying in until the bread is cooked
Purchased this to replace a more expensive one which had given up the ghost. This is equally as good but much simpler to operate with good clear display and instructions. Bread flavor depends on flour used, the one’s I like is a lovely taste. Mathews Granary or Mathews Churchill white.
I had a previous similar version which I bought secondhand 5 or 6 years ago. Unfortunately it needed some new parts which worked out dearer than buying a new one. I used the old one and its predecessor mainly for mixing dough as I have arthritis. The dough came out just right for the loaves and buns I’ve made so far. I’ve never liked bread baked in my previous bread makers but I shall give this one a try.
This is the 3rd bread Ive made on the first day I got it .very good bread machine
This machine is easy to use, clean and bakes to perfectio
eplaced an old breadmaker with this. Its pretty good, cant complain for the most part.
My one gripe is that it will literally walk off of your worktop. In my opinion it needs a larger base, or some manner of stand. Mine will dance around edging closer to the edge of the worktop having to be pushed back all the time. Therefore I cannot timer it and leave unattended to for example make bread first thing in the morning before I get up simply because of this.
I have found a non slip heatproof mat helps to a degree, but still not the best for this reason.
Otherwise, all recipes I have tried have been good. Just please change liquids marked as x hundred grams to ml please in the recipes provided.
Overall good, just be warned on the amazing walking ability of this unless you want to find it on the floor when you leave it on a timer anywhere near the edge of a worktop.
I don’t usually write reviews but the negative reviews being left have prompted a positive review from me.
I used to make my own bread but now with arthritis I no longer can, with this machine I can make a tasty, crusty loaf with minimal effort. Yes, the finished loaf does have a small hole in the base but that’s the same for all breadmakers. The paddle did get stuck inside the first loaf I made but it was easily removed when the loaf had cooled.
I’ve found it very easy to clean. If any of the dough gets stuck around the spindle in the tin, soaking for ten minutes in cold water and it easily washed off.
I can’t really think of any negative points. A good value machine.
Loving this bread. Easy to use and always a very fresh, soft, and very palletable loaf.
I’m so impressed with this bread maker for the price I can’t see why you would want to spend any more on one .
Simple to use..Just follow the steps in the manual ,Press 2 or 3 buttons and off it does it’s thing. A large loaf takes just over 3 hours from start to finish..There is a quick loaf setting that takes just over an hour but haven’t used that .
For the past few weeks I’ve been making bread rolls and they come out better than shop ones..
Hint.. when making rolls use the ingredients for large white loaf and then use the Dough setting. I get 8 large cobs from this.( You will have to shape the dough and cut to size and put in the oven for rolls)
If you have never made bread before , like me, you will be amazed how easy this machine does it..
It’s the size of a large chip pan so takes up a bit of space on table top.
Not very loud ,easy to use and easy to clea
I wanted a simple basic breadmaker and having read the reviews on here and other sites decided on this one. I want to mainly bake basic bread and have followed the recipe for Basic white medium loaf and this breadmaker didn’t disappoint. Only drawback is it doesn’t signal when it’s done the last knock back so you can quickly open the lid and gently lift the dough and remove the paddle so you don’t get the annoying chunk missing from the bottom of your loaf, where the paddle pulls out, but having watched the machine in action I know the knockback occurs when the timer reads roughly 1.45 left so set the alarm on my phone to go back to the machine then. All in all a great little breadmaker for the money. It’s also compact enough to fit in my kitchen cupboard.
From previous experience with other makes we gave up but given the deterioration of commercial bread products, both supermarket and artisan baker we took a gamble and tried this machine. Simple to use and program it produces great quality breads . Ok we’ve only had it for three weeks but it’s producing excellent loaves. We have tried adding olives, walnuts, raisins and seeds with really good results. Will keep in experimenting. Wrapped in cling film and kept in fridge it keeps well.
The only downside is that we are all putting on weight thanks to this delicious bread. Go for quality ingredients, use digital scales and you won’t go wrong.
I use this with packets of pre mixed bread mix and I’ve never had a dud yet. Easy to use and clean. Would recommend
Initially I hated this machine. I was producing very heavy bread. So….I consulted Google. The best advice I found was the longer the programme the better the bread and add 2tbs milk powder to the flour when making a large loaf. I am now producing lovely light flavoursome breads. My best advice is keep away from the quick bake programmes.
Love this bread maker. The french loaf recipe is brilliant and tasty as is the white bread recipe.Love the dough for making pizza for my son to take to work for lunch.Really don’t know how I have managed for so many years without one! Pity the paddle for mixing does get stuck in the loaf but otherwise is a great addition. No more store bought bread for me.
Full instructions provided. Delivered to my door overnight. Bakes excellent Bread. Try some!
Nice little machine. Bake whatever you want in 3 sizes 3 crust darkness and 12 settings. No need to buy shop bread anymore
Absolutely love this bread maker.
Does everything it says it can do, I’ve only been experimenting with the bread recipes at the moment and they are delicious, even making a loaf of bread for each member of family and they are all enjoying it.
The bread maker makes a noise when kneading the bread, but that’s to be expected, I have no issues with it.
I bought an extra breadmaking recipe book as the bread maker only comes with an instruction booklet with a few basic recipes in. Now I can start to try making a cake !!
Would really recommend this bread maker and also say it’s definitely value for money.
Enjoy !
1st bread maker, works a treat for the price. Base paddle often is stuck in the bread but it’s a minor inconvenience.
It really is a terrific gadget. Very easy to use and to clean. The smell of baking bread permeating the house is wonderful. Highly recommended.
I had to return previous purchase, which judging by the packaging, had already been returned. This one arrived with address label directly on RHobbs box – no packaging! 1st one did not heat up at all and many ingredients were wasted. I was going to return this one too as timer doesn’t function but it does make decent bread. Warning – instructions suffer from, I presume, mistranslation from Chinese manufacturer’s, as recipe details are incorrect in places. Tsp/Tbs = number of g vary from line to line! With trial & error I got there so have decided to keep it. I’ve had many RH appliances and this has been the only one that I’ve had problems with. Best loaf is the French bread one imo.
Simple to use bread maker. I tend to use the ready mixed packets so only add water. Good results each time
… … if the bread you buy is high quality and therefore expensive. This Russell Hobbs stands next to my toaster and looks smart. Be careful how you buy ingredients – bread mixes where you just add water are expensive, but you can find supermarket’s own and add seeds, olives etc. Buy white bread flour and wholemeal and go from there. I bought a bamboo bread slicer, which requires a 9 or 10″ bread knife and a bread machine book; well worth it. Look on the wrapper of a decent bread wrapper and see the additives.
We had a breadmaker which was 15 years old, it was starting g to corrode. The new one is so improved, easy to use and good choice of programmes.
I have found this very easy to use and it makes very tasty bread. It is not the most expensive machine but it has all the features that I need. I have followed the given recipes for two types of bread and have found the results to be very good. All the ingredients were easy to find in the supermarket. I have not bought any ready made loaves since I got this machine a month ago. It takes about fifteen minutes to measure and load the ingredients and a small white loaf takes three and a quarter hours to bake. I do not have a very large kitchen so the machine alternates in a cupboard with a hot air fryer.
Although this is a very good bread maker for the price, the paddle is awful. Supposedly non-stick it’s awful and adheres to the bread after every bake. I replaced it with an after-market paddle by another manufacturer that I knew was properly non-stick – no more problems. If you buy this admittedly good machine, replace the paddle!
Found its little confusing to begin with studied the Manuel and easier to use than I first thought. Have already made 2 basic white loaves first was gone very quickly family all said it tasted lovely. So far so good. May try a fruit bread at some point over weekend…kee
So easy to use and produces good quality bread. Love the fact you can bake 3 sizes of loaf with clear instructions. Great for making to dough for pizza, bread rolls and shaped bread.
Bought it to replace old breadmaker. Smaller in size but bakes even shaped loaves up to 1kg in weight. The shape of the tin means the large loaf is tall instead of long and therefore doesn’t fit totally into the toaster but a medium sized slice from a 750g loaf fits perfectly. Also there’s a choice of crust colour. Quiet mechanism and beeps when it’s time to add nuts and dried fruit. Several baking options available and the manual has quite a few recipes. Weights and spoon measures provided in the recipes which we’re finding helpful. The only things not provided are the measuring cups and spoons so we’ve kept them from the old breadmaker.
As many other reviewers have mentioned the paddle gets lodged/stuck inside the loaf when baked, sometimes it comes out other times it doesn’t, when it doesn’t you’ll end ruin the loaf trying retrieve the paddle.
The instructions for Program 3 wholemeal loaf doesn’t work for me, however after quite a bit tinkering at varying recipes, I’ve finally got the perfect wholemeal loaf albeit with the paddle lodged inside.
Here’s my recipe for a medium loaf, please add the following ingredients in order:
400 ml of water
Half a teaspoon of salt
Half a teaspoon of sugar
4 tablespoons of good extra virgin olive oil
350 grams of wholemeal flour
50 grams of white flour
50 grams of ground flaxseed
And once the all the above ingredients are in, then sprinkle 7g of dry yeast on top of the flour making sure the yeast makes no contact with the salt.
Job done, you’ll get an amazing loaf of wholemeal bread.
I love it.
Now, freshly made bread is the only bread i eat.
I do not purchased that nasty shop packed stuff that never goes off.
The only issue i have is the mixing ‘blade’ wears/thins quickly ..but at around a fiver for a replacement,
its no big issue.
A compact bread maker which is ideal in size for my kitchen. It makes lovely bread with no hassle. Just put the ingredients in and switch it on. I also made a ginger cake in it although it wasn’t quite done enough. Tried to make strawberry jam in it but that was a disaster.
Made my first loaf on the timer last night. Absolutely perfect loaf waiting for me when I woke up. Very surprised at the perfect shape of the loaf. Couldn’t be better. No sagging or risen perfectly. I used a Waitrose bread mix with 300ml water and 25gms of butter, as the instructions said. Just couldn’t be better. Only had to have a 2 minute look at the manual and I reckon I’ll never need it again. It so simple to understand. Timer worked perfectly. It’s compact, but makes a full sized loaf. Very satisfied. Oh, and the paddle stayed with the bread machine, not stuck in the bread. I expect that’ll change over time as the non stick wears off?
Got it working quickly and with good results. Better with Breadmaker flours sold by supermarkets than just flour. The only issue I have is that the bread does not store very long, 2/3 days. Which is not a problem for me since I mainly use it for toast.
We weren’t sure how good this would be, but we’ve made about a dozen loaves so far and they’ve all turned out great.
The crusts are nice and crusty and the flavour is great.
My wife has followed several of the recipes exactly and they’ve all turned out great.
She’s now started experimenting with additional ingredients and so far so good….
Bought to replace Lakeland compact that kept failing. several loafs in and all have been perfect. Love the fact it makes three sizes of bread, very easy to use but you must put the ingredients in the pan in the order of listing. The only tiny downside is no paddle removal tool or measures included and rip in bottom from paddle is quiet large as the paddle stays in the machine on removal, extra oil etc does not eliminate this. Tried dough only mix to make bread buns 1st attempt very sticky mix following basic loaf instruction. 2nd attempt following bread recipe very successful but heavier dough ball cause the machine to move about work bench, don’t position it near an edge. Buns were lovely.
Instructions are minimal for example if making wholemeal bread it does not tell you the paddle does not turn until 10 mins into the process making you query if it is working (it is the pan is warming the ingredients) Bear this in mind if buying as a gift.
Machine sits well on worktop and is only slightly larger than compact model. Quiet operation and easy to clean.
Using this bread maker for baking bread, which it does very well. Compact size which means that it stores easily and does not take up too much kitchen surface. I have not tried making cakes or jam but will certainly give this a try soon.
I’ve had several bread makers over the years but this one is the best. I always used Aldi yeast and got a perfect loaf. However, I ran out of yeast at one point and had to use a “top” brand. The loaf was uneven and the taste was impaired. I thought the bread maker was going faulty. I decided to abandon the “top” brand and go back to Aldi’s cheap version, the result was a return to perfect loaves. I now make sure I have adequate stockes of Aldi yeast and Aldi flour, which is half the price of other flours. I haven’t used the timer, I doubt I ever will but I’m getting great crusty bread.
This is a fab little bread maker. It’s compact and sits neatly on the worktop without taking up loads if space. I found it simple to use. Other reviews mention its noisy, yes there is some sound in the kneading stage but I would expect this given what it’s doing. The noise is really just a bit of a whirring sound of the paddle turning and lasts for about 30mins. We didn’t find it that intrusive to be honest. The machine can do 3 different size loaves. I have never used a bread maker before, I found this machine easy to use, I only made a 500g (the smallest size) for the first attempt but as there is only 2 of us this is a perfect size. I did the basic white loaf and followed the recipe in the booklet to the letter. I put it on the medium crust setting for first go that way we could decide it needed to go up or down one. The result was fantastic. The flat smelt of warm bread, and in 3hrs I had a loaf that came out looking like bread, smelling like bread and it tasted fantastic, it turned out looking and feeling like a shop bought fresh loaf. I haven’t used the delay timer function yet but its pretty straight forward to use. I am really pleased with this machine and the result and can’t wait to try the other recipes. I recommend this little machine, you won’t be disappointed
I received this Russell Hobbs 28036 bread maker machine yesterday and used it straight away. I have used a bread maker for the past 20 years, this is my 4th bread maker and my 1st Russell Hobbs. I tend to use the bread machines to make dough and then freeform into rolls, loaves and pizza. I rarely make and bake a loaf in the machine.
My first impression is that it is a small, light, compact machine which can produce 1kg of bread/dough. It is 6″ (15cm) smaller than my old machine but will make just 250g less bread/dough. My 1kg recipe filled it. Please do not assume a 2lb machine and a 1kg machine are the same size – they are not.
I made a sweet dough which I then made into Christmas Chelsea buns. This Russell Hobbs performed as I would expect it to – and produced a light, well mixed and well risen dough.
When I tipped the dough onto the table, the dough blade came out of the spindle and was buried in the dough – this is not a fault of the machine. In my experience with new machines, this tends to be the case and then once it has been used more it will stick on the spindle – again this is not a fault.
I would also recommend not washing the bread pan with soapy water as it will gradually seep into the bearings allowing the spindle to rotate. Once the bread/dough has dried, just shake it off.
The only reason I haven’t given this 5* is because the timer can only be used on the basic, French, wholewheat and sweet programmes. It cannot be used on the dough setting (which is what I used quite a bit on my old machine). This is not stated by Russell and Hobbs in their advertising spec and had I known would have influenced my decision on whether to purchase this machine.
In summary, a good machine, but as with everything, whether it is right for you would depend on what you wish to use it for…
The only problem there was no booklet with it had to download one x
This is very neat, light and easy to use, and makes excellent bread. My only niggle: the paddle sticks in the pan when I take out the baked bread, and rips a sizeable hole in the bottom of the bread. I’ve tried waiting until the bread cools off before removing it: same problem.
EDIT – latest was a disaster – see photos. The paddle is also VERY difficult to remove for washing, even when stone cold. Otherwise, OK.
It makes nice bread the only thing I have with it is the paddle it sticks and after cooking its inside the loaf of bread.
After a few trial and error goes at the recipes in the booklet provided I have finally crackedit I think. I now add the yeast to the warm water with a small amount of the measured out flour, mix it all together and let it begin to work while measuring out the rest of the ingredients. I lightly coat the inside of the breadmaking basket with a small amount of oil then pour in the water (mixed with yeast and a little flour) into the breadmaker first and then the follow with the rest of the ingredients as per their recipe. After the churning and mixing has finished I quickly whip out the paddle then pat down the bread and pop the basket back in and the result is bread that is risen, slips out easily with only a small hole on the bottom. Suprisingly I found the brown bread recipe to turn out consistently good. I like olive bread so I throw in a handful of black pitted olives at the beginning with the flour. If the bread sticks a bit on the mix stage you can ad a little more olive oil or plain white flour if it’s a bit wet (adding olives sometimes makes it wet but it tastes sooo good
This is the first bread maker I’ve owned and it’s brilliant. Have made small loaves , medium and large loaves, the medium is best for us as there are only two of us but the large is perfect for a family .The bread is so tasty and stays fresh for a least 5 days if you wrap it up in an old bread wrapper. The instructions are very easy to follow and has a few other recipes to make , tried the fruit and cinnamon loaf , it’s was very tasty toasted .
Cannot recommend this Russell Hobbs bread maker highly highly enough. Great price (and a British company), next day delivery and
comprehensive instructions. Can now produce gorgeous tasting bread to order In just over 3 hours which looks just as good as bakery produced.
Two bits of advice if you are looking for it. Leave out the powdered milk if you are making the quick white loaf and plan to bake every other day at most for standard white. Better every day if you want it at it’s best.
The bread is always uncooked in the middle, especially on the fast settings.
I’m measuring everything and using exactly what’s specified in the book, so what’s going wrong?
What a great purchase. Wouldn’t be without it. Made quite a few loaves of bread. The only criticism I can think of is that when the bread is ready to come out it is hard to get the bread out. The paddle gets stuck in the bottom of the bread
Bread comes out a bit lop sided.
However follow the instructions and you get a great loaf with good texture.
This bread machine is so easy to use. You just place all your ingredients in the tin start the machine. It does it all for you and you get very excellent results. I have stuck with the recipes in thr manual and I have been getting very tasty and very nice looking bread. Id recconend this to anyone looking to make fresh bread every week without any expertise of how to make bread. You’ll have fun and you’ll be able to experiment. I highly recommend.
I was sceptical that it would be a faff but it is super easy as long as you follow the instructions. I make a loaf every day and my kids love it. I only make standard white so the recipe that came with it is good for us. I make the largest size with the brownest crust.
I use it for Wrights bread mixes mostly, same as old M R. The paddle in the old one fitted onto the drive spindle very loosely and when mixing got lifted of the spindle. The paddle in this is a nice machined fit with the drive spindle. Very effective and quiet compared to old one. The instructions for this are succinct and differ in the temp of the water used by about 10 degrees C (higher). Using the same Wrights packs with higher temp water in first use the loaf came out twice the height of old machine product with a nice light centre as opposed to the previous heavy loaf with crust like armour. Settings were same as before:- prog 2, 2lb size, dark crust.
It just did not have all the functions I needed. But still very good
A very easy to use machine. This is my second one, having used the first one until it gave up the ghost. I use the dough setting very often so that I can make a small loaf & some tolls from the same dough. Today I used the fast bake for the first time. It was so quick!
A great machine with so many possibilities.
I use the dough function a lot so I can bake in a loaf tin, make pizza dough or add in extra ingredients like cheese and jalapeo. Use this more than I thought I would as homeworkers. We used to ditch quite a lot of store bought bread when it went off but now I can bake smaller loaves more frequently and it keeps well and tastes so much better.
Look forward to trying out the cake function.
Brilliant breadmaker. I’ve made lots of different kinds of bread – white, brown and seeded loaves as well as dough for baps, pittas and pizzas. Dead easy to use and everything freezes perfectly too. The timer function is brilliant, the only problem is the delicious aroma of freshly baked bread wakes you up!
With Aldi bread flour at 59p for a 1.5Kg bag, it works out incredibly cheap and tons better than any shop bought. I haven’t bought any bread ever since I got my bread machine. I’m going to try the jam recipe next.
I’ve no idea what more expensive machines can do better than this. Yes the paddle sticks in the bread occasionally, or you get a hole sometimes, but that’s nothing to worry about. I’d definitely recommend this model. Superfast delivery from Amazon and I registered online for a further year’s guarantee.
Seriously, used it for the first time today in conjunction with Morrison’s basic white bread mix for 90p. Read the instructions for the bread maker twice and same again for the mix. The most important piece of information, I believe, was to use the exact amount of bread mix and water. Program 1 on the bread maker, middle of three crust settings and a 400grm (1lb) load. Placed in the machine and left well alone although couldn’t help but look in the window every 20mins or so. Again, as soon as the bake ended, removed immediately and left to cool. Used the new Nangfang Brothers bread knife for the perfect slice, butter spread evenly and it was beautiful. Not artisan quality but better than shop bought, extremely pleased. Top tip read and follow the instructions. I have not been paid, incentivised or have any connection with any supplier involved with the bread making process, this is just an honest consumer review, a very satisfied one at that.
Firstly this is my second bread maker , was very pleased with my first one but unfortunately it broke , bread stopped rising, but great customer service phoned them at 11pm explained what was going wrong they ordered me a replacement straight away to arrive the day after and e mailed a return label to send the broken one back free of charge , so have only had this one about three weeks but do bread twice a week , yummy, and upto now no problems. Reasonable price and excellent customer service. Not bought any shop bread just my own baked bread . 10/10 .
I purchased this machine a year ago August 2020. I find it easy to use and it produces a good tasty loaf of bread every time. Which is what I want. I see some people saying the paddle stays in the loaf, this happens with most machines.
What I do when making bread is; after the first rise, about 1hour and 8 mins, the machine knocks the doe down before it starts the 2nd rise and cooking, I immediately remove the paddle and level the doe out a bit, then leave it to rise and cook. I find this works well and all you get is a small hole from the spindle.
I recommend this reasonably priced machine.
Seemed perfect for me until I read in the booklet, that for gluten bread, it does not have a quick programme – only for gluten flour.
However their cooperation in returning it was very good. There is a model which has a quick 1 hour programme for gluten free.
This bread machine is dead easy to use, even for myself who usually has difficulty boiling an egg. Lots of recipes are supplied, and baking bread consists simply of picking one, throwing the ingredients in order and one at a time into the baking pan, switching on, waiting for about 3.25 hours and voil: new loaf is ready to eat. It is stupidly simple to use with practically no interaction worth mentioning: you simply throw in the ingredients and leave it to its work. Two small words of warning: when first unpacking, I thought they’d forgotten to include the ‘paddle’ (the small ‘blade’ that mixes and kneads the ingredients). Turned out to have been attached to the power cable, next to the plug, inside swathes of plastic, so it wasn’t obvious and it wasn’t where all the other ‘components’ of the device were inside the box. Second: the supplied manual makes no mention of the fact that on Program 3 (the wholemeal/granary bread section), the thing just sits there for about half an hour without doing anything at all. Some barely-audible clicks suggest that its actually turning the heating element on and off periodically, presumably to bring something up to temperature before mixing begins… but it’s not explained anywhere and the first time I tried a wholemeal bake I thought I’d broken it or done something wrong.
The only other semi-serious complaint I have is that the recipe/manual booklet is merely paper and on the thin-and-flimsy end of things. Since it’s got all the recipes in it, you’re going to be using it a lot and keeping it near the machine… so it’s going to get grubby and creased and a bit tatty quite quickly. It would have been nice to have included at least the recipe section as a set of laminated cards or something similar: something with a bit more usability and robustness.
Otherwise, it’s easy to clean and though the paddle does tend to create a quite large hole in the bottom of every loaf made, it’s not a show-stopper. The machine does get fiercely hot during the final stages of baking, so care is needed when removing the finished loaf from it, but it cools quickly and a quick wipe with a damp cloth restores it to cleanliness, so that’s not a deal-breaker either.
I actually bought it because an 80+ lady up the road who we do the gardening for said it was the best thing she’d ever bought in over 20 years. Her enthusiasm made me willing to give it a go, too. The special deal on the price made it easy to give it a go. I got mine for around 59, and that seems a very reasonable price. I think its functionality and utility make it worth a bit more than that -but I’d have resented having to pay much more, and would probably have hesitated to spring for it. Nevertheless, as a reasonably-cheap impulse buy, it’s fulfilled all the expectations I had of it at decent value-for-money.
First loaf turned out good second one not so , followed recipe but it sunk at the top. Gong back to the medium loaf next time also didn’t brown on the top more likely my error. Both bread had holes in the middle but I expected this . The taste and texture wss lovely. Pleased I bought it .
I have had this breadmaker for just over a month now. I have managed to try some of the recipes and they worked really well. The breads were teasty and it was good to have it all done with no mess. I am in love with this breadmaker. I like the possibility of choosing the quality of the ingredients of my bread. It is a big device. It will require a huge space in your kitchen. But it is the ‘price’ we pay for having a machine where we put the raw ingredient in and we get a fresh ‘baked’ bread off. The downside is the difficulty of removing the kneading blade from the bread. Apart from it, this breadmaker is just a great thing to have at home.
