Technical support for F20-FAQ:
1. How to access the storage/SD card after connecting the F20 to the computer?
F20 uses the MTP protocol and couldn’t be properly recognized until the MTP driver installed. Please make sure F20 under USB mode, then connect F20 to computer to recognize it.
2. How can I use USB DAC function?
First switch the USB mode to USB DAC mode (Enter the setting menu to switch USB mode to select DAC). After that, connect the F20 to the computer via USB and use it as USB DAC. (Before using on Windows computers, you’ll also need to install the DAC driver, The 32GB memory card that comes with F20 has already stored the driver, need to copy and install it. )
Please note: In DAC mode, F20 can not display the disk name on computer. If need drag and drop file, please set up at USB mode.
3.Why my new F20 only getting sound one channel out of the corded earbuds？
The new player has a slightly tighter headphone jack, just plug it with pressure and it will be easier to plug in after few uses.
4. Why I cannot connect my Bluetooth headphone to the F20?
When using the Bluetooth headphone with the F20 for the first time, need pair the two devices. Please make sure that the Bluetooth headphone is in pairing mode (just like the very first time that you use the Bluetooth headphone with other devices). When the Bluetooth headphone is in pairing mode, turn on Bluetooth on the F20 and search for the headphone to connect.
5. Can this player work with iTunes? Is it compatible?
No, the player doesn’t compatible with iTunes. This functions more like an external hard drier. You simply plug it in, an option to open it as a folder pops up, and you simply drag and drop your music.

Ein ungewhnliches Gert, das (so sehe ich das) kaum Konkurrenz hat.
Tonqualitt und Lautstrke sind gut, ebenfalls die Akku-Laufzeit.
Flac-Dateien lassen sich ohne Pause zwischen den Titeln abspielen, was z.B. bei klassischer Musik sehr wichtig ist.
Das massive Metall-Gehuse ist vielleicht ein bisschen schwer, fhlt sich aber angenehm an.
Interessantes Detail: Im USB/DAC-Modus knnen Musik-Dateien auf dem PC decodiert werden. Denn die Wiedergabe ber die im PC eingebaute Sound-Karte ist meistens von schwacher Qualitt.
I bought this device about two years ago, and my battery started to swell which I presume was because of a defect. When I informed them, they told me to order a replacement and that they would refund me. They honored this agreement, and I received a full refund for my purchase which was more expensive than 2 years ago by a few dollars. The current product feels even more solid than the older model and there does not seem to be a problem with the wheel where over using it could make it unresponsive in the menus. With that being said, I’ve only had this for about a month compared to the original design…but that’s about how long the original lasted, so looking good.
I was also sent a 32GB SD card with my order. Very grateful for that. The only issue I have with the device is a minor one, which is that the volume is very low compared to the original model. I have to turn it up to nearly 100 in order to really hear my music. It’s about 30% lower than the original. But in terms of keeping your ears safe, I can see if that’s what they were going for. There are also some issues connecting to Bluetooth at times, but restarting the device usually works on the 1st/2nd try (it’s never failed outright). Overall, I’m very satisfied with the product and that they upheld their end of the deal.
I have to say right at the start: I am not using bluetooth and the tracks I loaded onto it ARE my only playlist.
This little piece of equipment is damn sexy. VERY good-looking, solid.
While it may have bluetooth capability, I am using it exclusively as a connected USB device in the car. That way it plays AND charges at the same time.
It also has the software to create playlists, but I (currently) have loaded tracks that ARE my playlist. When I need to change it up, it’s an easy drag-and-drop procedure with a PC.
So, I’m not utilizing the full functionality, but the device provides all I need. For now. It also fits into the leather case I used for a 5th Gen iPod and leaves access to the USB port. I can use the vehicle’s audio system for volume and track navigation.
For me, this is a winner.

The Surfans company provided excellent support after, on 7/31/22, I advised the company that the battery was unable to accept a charge. I had the device for less than a year when the device exhibited this problem. I received a response after one day from a representative “Mark” then another representative “Julie” both ensured that I would get a new device after providing necessary purchase verification. I received the new device on 8/9/22. EXCELLENT and very courteous service.

Negativ: Lautstrke knnte mehr sein, Equalizer sollte mehr auwal baben z.B. R&B, Loudness, oder direkt selber den EQ einstellen das wre der ober knaler.
Mit dem Gert ist alles perfekt, da ich schon eins habe.
Mute das Gert ein 2.Mal bestellen, da beim 1.Versuch keine Auslieferung durch unfhigen Zusteller erfolgte. Bei der 2.Bestellung hat alles super geklappt. 5 Sterne!
Il rapporto qualit prezzo eccellente, visto il prezzo. La qualit audio ottima, purch si abbiano delle cuffie adatte e si riproducano file audio di alta qualit. Personalmente lo uso per ascoltare i file FLAC in alta definizione (44.1 kHz, 24 bit) di opera lirica che ho acquistato su prestomusic e sono rimasto moto soddisfatto (l’ho testato con il Ring di Solti con equalizzatore spento). Anche i Flac 44.1 kHz, 16 bit e gli mp3 a 320kbps fanno il loro figurone. Per questo prezzo difficile trovare di meglio.
Buon lettore files musicali. Abbastanza facile da usare. Va settato bene per avere i migliori risultati. Unica pecca: tutte le volte che lo si accende bisogna nuovamente connettere la cuffia bluetooth all’apparecchio per cui ho tolto una stella.
It is an MP3 player and that is about all I can say about it. The one thing that I don’t like is the audio volume seems very low and I have to crank up the volume to what on other players would be excessive to get a decent volume. The equalizer is a nice thing to have but honestly I can’t tell the difference between the settings.
Gekauft habe ich den Mp3-Player wegen der guten Rezensionen und der Mglichkeit eine SD-Karte als Speichermedium benutzen zu knnen. Der Player initialisiert sich schnell, der wechsel der Lieder geht zgig vorran und fr mich ist die Akkulaufzeit mit 12 – 14 Stunden mehr als ausreichend. Der Player hat ein Metallgehuse und die Bedienung ist Kinderleicht und verstndlich. Bei mir luft die 400 GB, sowie die 512 GB SD-Karte ohne Probleme. Die einzige Einschrnkung betrifft die gre der Lieder, die auf maximal 15000 begrenzt ist. Um das Problem zu umgehen muss man einfach Ordner anlegen und darauf achten, dass sich darin maximal 15000 Lieder befinden und dann sollte auch alles klappen. Ich habe bei dem Player nur zwei kleine Schwchen zu bemngeln und das ist die deutsche bersetzung, da einige Funktionen nicht verstndlich sind z.B. die Wiedergabeverstrkung die unterteilt in Aus, Titel & Album ist. Als weites ist die Menfhrung nicht immer schlssig z.B ist der Sleeptimer unter Display zu finden. Das alles sind aber wirklich kleine schwchen der Software und die knnten in Zukunft mit Updates behoben werden.
Ich kann den Player nur wrmstens empfehlen.
Nach langen suchen habe ich mich dazu durch gewrungen ein etwas teureres Modell zu nehmen. Die billigen Plastik-teile wo die Knpfe nicht gut funktionieren , stndig am abstrzten sind oder der Akku nach nur wenigen Stunden den Geist aufgibt – die hatte ich genug. Ich war vom Surfans positiv berrascht aber ich muss auch sagen das ich das Gert vielleicht nicht so nutze wie gedacht. Bei mir kommt es im PKW auf Langstreckenfahrten fr das AUX zum Einsatz. Daher einschalten und laufen lassen ist die Devise. Und es war das erste Gert das wirklich mal ca 10h am Stck gelaufen ist. Die Mp3 habe ich mit dem USB direkt auf das Gert kopieren knnen. Ein paar defekte Mp3 sind auch dabei aber kein Problem der Surfans springt dann direkt zum nchsten titel. Auch etwas was die Plastikdinger nicht knnen. Ich wrde es weiter empfehlen – aber wie gesagt ich bin bestimmt nicht der “Standard”-User.

Be sure if you use the bluetooth function to a bluetooth speaker, you turn off any the bluetooth from your phone or any other item connected to the speaker. It will not work with 2 or more items connected to your speaker or headphones. It will see the device but not be “paired”.
I totally hate the thumb wheel. First spin it 50 times in both directions to loosen it up. Then it will work ok.
The thumbwheel should have been 1/16″ higher. It is too flush with the unit. Very poor design.
The thumbwheel should have more groves in it.
The back scratches very easy. I am surprised by this. Just sitting on my desk the back is scratched?
No case for it. Why not????? If out and about, you have to put it in your pocket.

he only issue when you want to put songs in the player you have to set usb mode. So you are uable to listen while transferring flac or mp3. In usb mode unable to find the root folder vs SD card folde
En resumen, hice buena eleccin, por el monto de dinero que quera gastar.
Overall, this product is compact and has a great sound for the price. I can connect it to my Aux port in my car and play whatever I want. I added an SD card that fits all the music I have on CDs, over 400 CDs worth. I honestly can’t complain much for the price.
One main issue is the alphabetization is not completely accurate. I’m not sure the logic that was programmed into the device. Mainly, it sorts shorter words after longer words that start with the same letters. It also does not drop articles (a, an, the) and sorts them alphabetically. So, all your songs that start with “The” will be in the Ts.
Also, one major issue is there is not a way to quickly sort through Songs. If you have thousands of songs to sort through, you’re going to be scrolling for awhile if you want to search for a song. Or, if you’re like me, listening to songs alphabetically, and then want to listen to a specific song, you lose your place. This means, if you want to go back to where you left off listening alphabetically, then you have to spin the wheel for minutes to get back to where you were. It can tire out your thumb or finger. There isn’t a way to hold a button and let it scroll for you. Somewhere, they have mentioned that you can search songs by letter, but I don’t see it on my device.
This mp3 player is nice!. Out of the box it feels quality made. Dosen’t feel cheap like most mp3 players. It almost feel like an aluminium type material. The rotary wheel feel smooth with hints of indentations when scrolling through folders. The buttons do make a clicking sound when pressing them so in a very quite environment the clicking sound may sound loud to the user. The monitor screen is nice with three theme colors to choose from. The only thing this mp3 player wish it could have done was to be able to store photos. I personally like to sometimes look through my pictures while listening to music. Other than that this mp3 play is a four star rating for me.
I got this mp3 player because I’m sick of using my phone as a music listening device.
I wanted something with no touch screen. And also on long road trips I would be useing my phone to listen to music and by the time i would arrive at my destination, my phones battery would be half used. Sure I could leave it hooked up to a car charger while listening but I didn’t want to do that.
Anyway this mp3 players battery life is quite good fully charged. I bought a 256gb micro card for it and now I have tons of storage for music. It comes with a 32gb card and depending on what type of file your music is converted to determines how much your music may take up space on your micro card.
.Mp3 files are lower in quality but standard files that are compressed for a smaller space consumption on your micro sd card. Wav. is lossless file meaning its not compressed like mp3 files but higher in quality sound therefore wav. files take up more space. So I would be aware of this when you want to take advantage of your cards storage. You can easy convert your music files to mp3 or wav with any audio converter software. There’s some free online.
Just what I wanted to pair with my Shokz bone conducting headphones.
The best feature on this player is undoubtedly the sound quality as the equalizer is deep enough that you can tune for studio quality for metal, or heavy bass for hip hop and house. It has an option for low or high gain as well as an easy playlist editor to better organize your music. It’s got the best sound of any player I’ve had since Cowin’s iAudio9+ without the fragile screen and good durability much like iBasso’s DX series but without the DX50’s headphone jack problems. The button layout is also pretty good in keeping all the buttons organized but not too close. The battery life is decent, giving roughly 12-16 hours of play before needing to be recharged.
Now, for the cons: the buttons, including play/pause, seek/skip, and volume control are all automatically locked once the backlight is off. This isn’t a major issue but it lacks the convenience of quickly pressing a button to adjust for a loud or quiet track. The other issue in regard to the interface is that when playing music from an artist, it only allows play from one given album at a time rather than playing all music organized under that artist’s name or folder. While you can set the player to play through the albums consecutively, it doesn’t have as much leeway for just listening to all of their work.
Overall, while it doesn’t have the best sorting method for some music play and the inactive backlight auto-locking the buttons, it’s a great music player for audiophiles and relatively inexpensive with a large storage capacity with a 128gb memory card and a long lasting battery life per charge. I’d recommend it for anyone not looking to spend over $200 but wanting great audio fidelity nonetheless.
Ok I have had this for about a week and even with the few cons, it’s still a great replacement. So here it is as plain and simple as it gets.
PROS: 1- Excellent sound quality. I loaded up a 256gb Scan card with 160gb worth of music no issues in 2 hours ( not through the device itself, I loaded the card after formatting it in a MAC.)
2- Built very well
3- Has a 3.5mm headphone jack and Bluetooth ( Will not play both at the same time.)
4- Great battery life.
5- I like to scroll through my player by Artist Name, and this sets it up and selects like my old iPod did.
CONS: 1- The volume reverts back to a 30% Level everytime the unit turns off or goes to sleep for a long while.
2- You have to wake it up after awhile by pressing the power button on top of the unit.
3- The 3.5mm headphone port is on the bottom of the unit. I use wired headphones and this is just a pain in the butt to use. When I’m out walking, the unit has to remain upside down in a belt case while I’m walking. Not a big deal breaker but why not on top.
4 – The music menu is very small and it’s dark yellow text on a dark grey background. So it’s hard to see.
5 – The scroll wheel is a bit stiff, miss the soft touch of the iPod, but again, it’s just take sometime to get used to it.
Overall, I’m really satisfied with it. I work in the Audio Visual field for over 30 years so I can say that this MP3 player is very good. I have a very extensive CD catalogue that I have converted over to files and I plan on adding more. The fact that this unit can hold so much music is one of the reasons I went for it. Yes the price is steep for the unit and the card, but if it’s like my old iPod, I’ll get 10 or more years with it is certainly worth the price paid.
Nach mehreren Pleiten bin ich auf den Surfans gestoen. Fr mich als Hrgertetrger und Hrbuch/Spiel Hrer steht weniger die Klangqualitt als vielmehr die Bedienung und Verbindung im Vordergrund. Klang ist ja immer relativ und hngt von mehreren Faktoren ab. Ausgabemedium, Format (Mp3/Flac…), Verbindung…
Fr mich war es wichtig das die einzelnen Tracks der Reihe nach gespielt werden, und nicht wie bei anderen Gerten der erste Track stndig in Dauerschleife spielt.
Die Bedienung ist gewhnungsbedrftig aber nicht sonderlich kompliziert. Man steuert ber einen Ring und nicht ber Touchscreen, was ich persnlich besser finde. Unbeabsichtigte Bedienung ist somit ausgeschlossen. Die Bluetooth Verbindung ist schnell hergestellt. Zum Feierabend einfach das Gert ausschalten, nicht Pause oder Stopp drcken, dann spielt der am nchsten Tag exakt da weiter wo man aufgehrt hat. Das macht der zwar auch wenn man Stopp drckt, Allerdings muss man dann Bluetooth neu mit dem Hrgert/Kopfhrer verbinden.
Die Akkulaufzeit ist in Ordnung. Nach einer Schicht (8 Std) ist immer noch Akku brig.
Daten lassen sich einfach per Drag/Drop verschieben. Keine Treiber oder sonstige Spielereien ntig. An PC anschlieen, Surfans wird erkannt und Dateien verschieben. Fertig.
Alles in allem finde ich das Preis Leistungsverhltnis vllig i.O.

Firstly let me say this isn’t a “troll” review. I bought it and listened to the product. So let’s go…
The build quality of this player is first rate. Hands down best I’ve handled, even iPods. It’s weighty, and feels solid. Not that I want to drop it, but the feel of it appears that it could be dropped from a good height and it would survive.
The selection wheel is a treat. Positive detents to give feedback of action, and no wobbling as I read another reviewer stated.
The OS could use a tweak. Perhaps I’ll get used to it if I keep it, but to be scientific it feels…clunky.
The driver on the SD card wouldn’t recognize the device on my windows 10 computer. (yes all updates are current to this day)
That being said the reaction of the software to inputs from the buttons are quick and responsive.

Ok now to the meat of this. I’ll admit, maybe it’s me. Or perhaps I need a better quality headphones.

Currently I’m using a good quality Sony noise cancelling set. A set that has seen me through many airplane trips, and nights in hotels.
To be brutally honest I see minimal differences in the sound quality from this and a iPod. (I’ll brace for the slings and arrows)…
I didn’t have any high bit rate FLAC files hanging around, and no samples were on the device (strange I thought) so I went to a couple different web sites and bought 4 albums at the 24 bit rate. These are more expensive that your “Standard fare” so keep that in mind when wanting to fill your device. And TBH I expected that for the higher quality and depth of the music.
That being said, truly I did not see enough of a difference to warrant the “Audiophile” label.
If I can find a decent pair of headphones to try I’ll give it another chance. But sadly as of now for the price, sound, and clunkyness of the OS software I’m thinking of sending it back.
1st – It is solid (Metal not plastic) and sounds great!
2nd – The sound is bright (clean and crisp). Excellent highs, strong mids and tight bass. It has an equalizer with presets, or you can set custom settings (to warm it up). I rip all of my music in either FLAC or 320 kbps and the player sounds great with my Apple Air Pods 2nd Gen or my Jabra Active Elite 75’s (in ear / at the gym). I’ve also tested the with a pair of Sennheiser HD 580’s over ear headphones and the player drives them really well – excellent sound (Surprising and loud).
3rd – The player will take a 256GB card, I’m using a 128GB card with about 10,000 songs (More than enough for my purposes)
4th – You can preload the SD Card on your computer, then insert it. Use a basic file system (Ex. Music / Artist / Album…). It makes it easier to navigate given the interface (wheel).
5th – The Interface is a wheel with a center button and works fine! We are all use to touch screens and for some it may be a pain, having to backout of an album to select another artist / album. I usually select one album and go through my work out (it will play the album and move from one song to another) You can also create playlists (I haven’t tried that).
6th – I’ve found the average Bluetooth range to be about 20 to 25ft tops. (Depending on what’s in the way / sometimes less – not great). (Definitely less than my phone!)
I bought the player to use at the gym. I’ve been using my phone, but don’t like being disturbed during my workouts (I know “Do Not Disturb”, “Airplane Mode” or Silent, but I still look at it!) It also sounds better that my phone! One last piece of advice read the manual (you can download it), it will help! All in all I hope this answers a few questions the other reviews didn’t touch on. It’s a really good player for the money!
A bit fiddly to set up, not the best OS, but oh, so worth it.
I found this to be of a good build standard and very easy to use. I have just started using this and so far I’m impressed.
I wanted to get away from my phone and get a music player that did not resemble a phone. This fit the bill.
Things I like:
– No annoying music programs needed. Player is like an external hard drive. Just plug it into your laptop and drop-drag music files into the window that opens. Voila, that’s it. It also easily overwrites existing files. Unplug and go. This seems small but I have come to hate iTunes synching b.s. and the input of metadata that inevitably gets lost or corrupted. All my files are now just ARTISTNAME_SONGNAME.mp3 and no tags or cover art.
– Super janky and low-res display straight outta 1999. This player is for people who don’t care about a screen. If having nice cover art is important, look elsewhere. You can pick between 3 wallpapers of ash gray, doodoo brown, or puke green.
– It has a line-out! Your signal is not distorted by the amp of the unit, i.e. volume buttons only work with headphone input. This is huge and shows their attention to detail.
– Two levels of gain, Low and High. Default is Low. This is handy for DJs. Default sound is loud and crisp. At 60% volume, it sounds like my iPhone at 80%. I haven’t messed with the equalizer except for presets, which are as idiotic as they were in 1999 (Classical, Jazz, etc.)
– Physical buttons. Fast forward and fast rewind are consistent and do not change according to how long you depress the buttons. It is same speed regardless, like on a cassette player.
Things I don’t like:
– Unit does feel a little on the cheap, light side, less than an iPod Classic. A few more ounces would give the illusion of a better build. Price point of $80 would be better.
– Apparently has a 15,000 song limit. Not ideal, but do you really need 15,000 songs at once?
– Buttons don’t work unless it is “awake” by touching power button first. This isn’t as annoying as I feared it might be. I can live with it.
– No easy playlist creation.
Ich betreibe seit 50 Jahren eine Mobile Diskothek im Nebengewerbe und begre den Trend zur Minimierung der Gerte. Den Surfans hat ich erworben, um bei kleineren Gigs oder spontan ohne Mischpult oder IPad Veranstaltungen bis zu 50 Personen zu beschallen. Dies hat mit dem Surfans hervorragend geklappt.
Zur Musikauswahl:
Ich habe den Surfans eine Woche vor einer anstehenden Karnevalsveranstaltung geliefert bekommen. Aufgrund der bisherigen Rezessionen (Schwierigkeiten beim Aufsuchen von Musiktiteln) habe ich mir im Vorfeld Gedanken ber den Einsatz der im Gert zur Verfgung stehenden Suchfunktionen gemacht.
Ich habe zehn Playlisten (von Karnevals-Klassiker bis hin zum Klsch-Rock) mit jeweils 100 durchnummerierten Titeln im WAV-Format im Gert als Dateien gespeichert. Unter der “Dateibersicht” im Gert kann ich auf alle Playlisten zurckgreifen und brauche mir diese nicht mhevoll Im Menpunkt “Kategorie” einzurichten. Den Menpunkt “Kategorie” nutze ich zur Suche von Musikwnschen. Hier kann ich unter Songs, Knstler oder Album alphabetisch selektieren. Im Menpunkt “Genre” kann ich noch in weiteren Musiksparten suchen, die ich zuvor in den Musikdateien individuell hinterlegt habe.
Unter “Favoriten” hatte ich mir fr die Veranstaltung gewnschten Playbacks hinterlegt. Und – ich war selbst berrascht- alle Musikwnsche konnten prompt erfllt werden. Mehr als 1000 Titel hatte ich zur schnellen Musikauswahl bisher auch pro USB-Sticks nicht gespeichert. Ich werde fr knftige Veranstaltungen themenbezogene Dateien auf 16 GB-SD-Karten kopieren und mich von dem USB-Mischpult und den Sticks verabschieden.
Zur technischen Komponente:
Die Musikdateien habe ich problemlos ber den “USB-Modus” eingelesen. Das “Bluetooth-Streaming” klappte auf Anhieb und lief whrend der gesamten Veranstaltung in 6 m Entfernung zur Box strungsfrei. Ein hrbaren Unterschied zwischen den WAV-Dateien und den bisherigen MP3-Dateien war nur ber Kopfhrer wahrzunehmen und bei diesem Genre nicht ausschlaggebend. Das Display ist mit der groen Schrift ausreichend lesbar. Der Akku hatte nach knapp acht Stunden Laufzeit des Gertes noch ein Drittel Kapazitt. Hier hatte ich Bedenken, da whrend des Ladevorgangs nicht auf die Dateien zugegriffen werden kann.
Fazit:
Fr kleinere Veranstaltungen der ideale Zuspieler. Zusammen mit der Bose S1 und dem Mikro in einer Tasche und die Beleuchtung (auch akku-betriebene LED-Effekte) in einer weiteren Tasche bin ich mit 15 kg Gesamtgewicht im Flieger und in der Bahn unterwegs. Vor 20 Jahren waren das noch 120 kg an DJ-Equipment und nur mit dem Van zu transportieren.

Absolutely thrilled with it. Very easy to use with it’s wheel for scrolling through your songs and the interface is simple. Sound quality is great as well. I prefer music players to using my phone and was worried about the potential size but it’s not much bigger than an iPod.
For the cost, it is worth the money. Built better than any of the classic iPods and costs way less. Battery life lasts pretty long (10-12) hours of playing 320kbit MP3s) and most always have some charge left. My only complaint is that the buttons feel a bit mushy sometimes when pressing them in from their edges and you can’t change the volume without unlocking the device.
I really do like thiis DAP, it sounds fantastic I would say well on par with some of the more expensive alternatives. I also like the look of it & the build quality seems very high. It does not have a touchscreen which in this instance I am happy about. Navigation is a little old school but I find if you lay out your folders well {as opposed to the whole library in one folder) you can find things pretty quickly. Soundwise I don’t think you can find a better player in this price range.
Easy to use but haven’t managed to connect to the tv or car on blue tooth
Delivers your music beautifully! Can set the text to large – even then it is tiny if you haven’t got sharp eyesight – but I can read the track titles, which is all that matters! I like the way it plays through the whole SD, album by album. Total music machine. If you unplug your headphones it will keep churning it out. Its not smart in any way but that’s good – my phone is getting suitably forgotten!
Secondly, I am an audiophile. Therefore, the device’s sound quality was the purchase motivator. You can throw lossless files at it all day and it hums along as expected. I would prefer Burr Brown DACs but at the low price point, who can really complain.
The battery life is good. For me, this means I recharge about once a week for daily workouts that last two hours.
Naked and without an external amplifier, it drives most high ohm headphones reasonably.
The glaring problem encountered centers around file management.
1. The device does not play well with most media players regarding playlist management. Software is included within the packaging. However, this involves individual manipulation per media item. If you are not savvy regarding filing systems, this can be problematic.
2. The device can not handle accent and special characters! If you listen to world music this might present a considerable problem. When encountered, the device stops! It will not recognize the file and one must skip to the next track to continue listening. To correct for this problem, I searched and removed all special characters from artist’s names and titles from the device’s database and all subsequent playlists.
3. You must be very mindful where you install playlists and ensure the lists correctly point towards the desired playback media. Any mistakes in this undertaking and you’ll be cursing like a sailor.
Overall, it is a worthy investment because it delivers on the required base dynamics. Audiophiles will enjoy:
* It replays music flat without equalization or gain, if desired
* It has both 3.5mm headphone jacks and 3.5mm audio out jacks
* The controls are mechanical. Although submenus exist, navigation and control is pretty straightforward.
* It is priced excellently for what is delivered.
* Its size factor mates well with most headphone amps beautifully.
My only niggle is it’s a bit on the quiet side, when listening through headphones, I had to invest in a portable amp for it, but perfectly fine when connected to a music system use the direct link.
Got this player as I wanted something to play FLAC files from, and also wanted to separate playing music from having my phone at hand. The sound quality is great on this player, and it is solid and well made. I find the interface easy to use and recommend this player to all.
Some advice – I thought I had a problem with the player today as it was not connecting to the computer via USB. I had tried a couple of cables and nothing was happening except charging. Then I found the original cable and all worked as it should. Leaving this here as it may help others.
This device is pleasing in design, works well. I upgraded the SD card from the standard for more storage: I chose SanDisk after trying a cheaper option. I have been enjoying the Bluetooth to link to small speakers or earbuds. The sound is great.

Years ago I had an iPod touch that got stolen. Luckily I found all the music on a backup drive. I bought this and now I can listen to all my music again! The interface is very clunky. Here’s a tip: When browsing the “Category” section, if you hold down the “M” button, you can search by letter. Even with this, searching by song is useless. You will be there for an hour just to get through the A’s.
The battery life is great… Like really good.
I have knock-off wireless earbuds and the bluetooth connection is pretty spotty. I don’t know if it’s my cheap earbuds or the MP3 player, but the earbuds connect to my phone no problem, so I think it’s the player. Sometimes when it connects it makes this terrible choppy sound like it’s chopping up the song with gaps between every sample. This is remedied when I turn off BlueTooth and turn it back on again from the “M” menu. Again, it might be because the bluetooth earbuds are cheap, but I wonder if it would still do that if I connected Apple AirPods to it. The player will connect via bluetooth and then lose the connection suddenly sometimes. Spotty bluetooth connection and unintuitive interface, but overall a great player.
Use a Sony mp3 for years.

Everything was as defined by reviews, except I think the first batch may have originally been metal and glass, then made cheaper to plastic made to look like metal and glass! Either that or the reviewers were a little bit dumb enough to be taken in like a magpie believing the shiny to be something it just isn’t! I looked on both you tube and other reviews before buying, but I am very happy with the way the unit performs and the battery life. My only issue would be I’d like there to be a software update that would give you a toggle to adjust the volume whilst the unit is locked as continuously pressing the power button to wake and enable the volume is going to no doubt lead to undue wear on the power button itself over time. And also as others have said, there should maybe be bigger, more custom fonts as the song details are a little bit hard to see with the sizes provided.
I have been on the hunt for a high quality mp3 player that does what I want it to do…which is (are) to store LOTS of music, be easy to operate, be of high quality workmanship (hasta la vista, SONY) and reproduce sound with high fidelity. Further, I wanted it to be fully compatible with my car’s digital music and information system. At first, I tried Apple iPod. I bought a generation 7 iPod Touch, which I discovered reproduces music beautifully and is extremely well built. However, it is over-loaded with gadgets. It is a veritable applications junk yard. So much space is utilized by all the garbage (i.e., apps) that the 32gb system I bought actually only had 22gb (thereabout) left over for music storage.

The SURFANS F20 HiFi proved to be the answer I was looking for all along. I was (am) impressed with how solid and compact the device is. The controls and the associated instructions are minimized and are straightforward and logical. On top of that, it is well built and nicely put together. It is to other mp3 players what a Volvo is to the other cars on the market. I purchased a 128gb microSD card to go along with it and I loaded it up with thousands of songs. To my amazement, the player starts up and loads in under one minute, even with such a library of music to organize during its startup protocol. The playback is BEAUTIFUL! Such deep, full, rich sounds coming from an mp3 player I thought not yet attainable, but the SURFANS F20 made me a believer! The player works perfectly with my Bowers and Wilkins car stereo system, by the way. The USB feature keeps my car’s music brains full and also keeps my portable music library (i.e., the SURFANS F20) fully charged. I never have to mess with it, except to load up more music.
If you want an mp3 player that plays music better than any other system you have every tried, then buy the SURFANS F20. I promise you will not be disappointed!
This player is much cheaper and in my opinion just a shade better, I prefer the buttons to navigate the system, the navigation wheel feels great quality and, really, the whole thing is really strong feeling and made out of a really strong metal. It’s got a good weight to it and feels good in the hand.
The sound quality is great, even through Bluetooth, but you really wanna be using some good wired headphones of IEMs for this thing, and trust me it shines.
The UI doesn’t look the greatest, but it has some great features, I love the way you can scroll through all of the categories (Albums, Artists etc), it feels really good and fast, switching songs is a breeze. The only issue I have is that the play/skip buttons don’t control the music while navigating AND when the screen is off… yes. It doesn’t bother me that much because my IEMs have skip/pause buttons which is what I’m used to anyway, so if that bothers you then expect that when buying.

I was very skeptical of this product when I first ordered it. Many people on here with low reviews for this device cite several things, such as build quality and occasionally files becoming corrupted.
The product was received promptly, and with the package intact. The device comes with a small guide, a MicroSD card pre-installed inside it (easily removeable with a pair of tweezers), and a cable that can be used for charging and loading music. You can also load music manually without the use of the device by placing the MicroSD card into an appropriate adapter before plugging it into a computer. The filing convention is ://SurfansF20/Artist_name/Album/Songs. This means that when you open the device container in a desktop environment, you will first see a list of folders containing a specific artist’s work, following down to their individual albums then songs.
This device can’t be managed by iTunes, which is why I purchased it originally. I wanted more control over my music, and it pairs perfectly with my current free music management program.
User issues reported were files becoming corrupted after syncing music from their computers to the device and the build quality.
Personally I have no issues with syncing my music. I plug in the device, confirm the files are in a compatible format (see instruction manual) move over the files I wish I have present on it for listening, and then right click on the device to eject it safely before physically removing the device’s connection. Treat the device like you would treat any other flash memory storage device because…well, it is!
The scroll wheel is an actual, physical wheel and not a capacitative(?) touch panel that you slide your finger across to navigate the user interface. Meaning that you will be moving this wheel control with your thumb. This means there is a chance where the wheel may fail, due to electrical or physical damage issues. Though I can rarely see much chance of physical damage owing to the aluminum outer shell of the device.
The text is a little small in the UI, and the backlight is not very effective in bright sunlight, but the simplistic UI navigation and sound quality as well as support for high definition audio files leaves me more than pleased.

Dislike is very annoying in that when I got round to listening to the device I noticed that whikst having the device in my pocket the track skips and there is a distortion which I find annoying presently and should it continues to be like that,then I will be returning item. It never happened on any previous mp3 player in the past. It is a major flaw in what is presently a good little player.
Wer ber die Handynutzung hinaus seine Musik mobil hren mchte, macht mit diesem Player nichts verkehrt. Ich habe ihn fr 99 Euro hier bei Amazon erstanden und das Preis- Leistungsverhlnis ist nicht zu berbieten. Ich nutze den Player jetzt ca 4 Monate, also der richtige Zeitpunkt fr ein Fazit.
Ich gebe NUR deshalb 5 Sterne, weil die Wiedergabequalitt wirklich beeindruckend ist. Dies ist bisher der beste mobile Player den ich je hatte. Keine Strungen und alles ist satt und perfekt abgestimmt. Die Equalizer-Modi kann man mal testen, braucht man aber nicht.
Das Gehuse ist rubust und hochwertig, das Design ist ein wenig altbacken, aber irgendwie auch cool. Vielleicht hatte er ein wenig smarter sein knnen, denn in der Hosentasche ist er schon ordentlich prsent.
Verbindung und bertragung mit dem PC ber USB funktioniert perfekt. Bluetoothverbindungen haben bisher ebenfalls schnell und stabil funktioniert. Die Bedienung ist nicht optimal, aber unterm Strich mehr als akzeptabel, denn alles lsst sich mit der Zeit auch blind in der Hosentasche bedienen, dank der analogen Knpfe.
Der erwhnte Kompromiss ist das Display, bzw die Schrift des Displays. Keine Ahnung was die Ingenieure vor hatten, aber dies ist technisch definitiv ein ganz miserables Ergebnis. Die Schrift der Mensteuerung geht noch, aber die Titel- und Albuminfos im Playmodus sind einfach nicht lesbar, weil zu klein. Wer also auf die Lesbarkeit der Titelanzeige, des Albums oder des Ordners, der Abspielzeit, der Titelnumerierung Wert legt und hier keine Kompromisse eingehen mchte, sollte das Gert nicht kaufen. Mir ist es mittlerweile egal, das ist fr mich in der Benutzung nicht relevant, ich kenne die Reihenfolgen meiner Playlisten eh auswendig.
Und so schliee ich meinen Kreis, nichts ist perfekt, wie immer im Leben. Htte der Player ein hbsches, lesbares und bersichtliches Display, htte ich sogar 6 Sterne vergeben. So bleibt nur das perfekte Sounderlebnis als Mastab fr die Zufriedenheit.
I have used it in my car (which has a “premium” sound system) and it sounds great. I plugged it in directly with a 3.5 mm plug (it seemed to sound better than with Bluetooth). It also sounds excellent with my Bose Quiet Comfort headphones, my Bose Sound Link speaker and Sony WIC-200 earbuds.
My music is in mp3 format; I connected the player to my computer using the supplied USB cord and just drag and dropped the folders containing my music into the player. It was easy with no problems. My next task is to take the books on CD I have in iTunes, arrange them in folders and move them over to the player.
The only difficulty I had was connecting my Bluetooth devices to it. The “trick” seems to be to keep the Bluetooth connectivity turned off on the player, then turn on the Bluetooth connection on the device you want to connect to the player. Once this is active, then turn the player’s Bluetooth on. It took a little longer for the devices to connect, but once they did, they showed up on the paired devices list.
What I would like to have is a case (similar to an iPod or phone case) for the player. For now, I keep it in an old leather Bose earbud case to protect it when not in use. I am going to look into designing and 3D printing a hard-shell case for it. In summary, I am satisfied with quality of the player, the features and the size.

So let’s get the negatives out of the way at the start. Firstly the Play/Pause button is just a whisker too big for it’s location and it tends to get stuck when you press it down. If you nudge the dial wheel it pops right back up but I do find that annoying. Secondly there is a “resume where you left off function” but no “bookmark” function so if you are using it to listen to audiobooks and then you go listen to music, you lose your spot in the audiobook. Thirdly the bluetooth can be a little touchy with automobile infotainment systems although it has worked great with every wireless headphones/earbuds setup I’ve tried. Finally, there is definitely a hard-coded limit of 15,000 songs in the firmware so to be blunt any SD card over about 128GB is probably a waste of time unless everything you listen to is super hi-def with the attendant huge files.
Which leads us to the good stuff. First and foremost is the SOUND QUALITY. If you pair this unit with a quality set of headphones or earbuds you won’t believe how good your music can sound (assuming of course your sound files aren’t crap). I have actually gone back and started weeding out some of my lower quality music files and upgrading them to higher sound quality because -now- when I listen I can really hear the flaws.
The volume control is excellent. If you push the gain you can really get some VOLUME out of the unit and I absolutely love how fine the volume options are because a lot of players make jumps in sound level that are annoying huge and you wind up with too quiet or too loud.
Next is the interface. The buttons are relatively large, widely spaced out, and tactile. After a short learning period you really can do a lot with this unit without even looking at it. There is an automatic button lock out whenever the screen goes dark (overridden by simply pushing the power button once) and some people really dislike it but I’ve found that it has prevented any number of accidental button presses so I like it just fine. Also the button lock out doesn’t affect the controls on my bluetooth headphones and they work just fine all the time.
Seriously, if they just added a persistent “bookmark” function I could use for audiobooks would pretty much rate this the perfect player for me.
Looks like a old Sony Walkman as a DAP. Menu are simple and I am very happy about that. Comes with 32GB card included and that is a lot for a lot of albums. Very solid build.
Zunchst das Wichtigste: Der Klang ist hervorragend, insbesondere in Anbetracht dieser Preisklasse. Der fast doppelt so teure Sony NW A-105, den ich mir zu Testzwecken von einem Freund ausgeliehen habe, ist, zumindest in meiner Wahrnehmung, diesem Player deutlich klanglich unterlegen. Schn ist, dass es mglich ist, den Player die letzte Position in einem Track speichern zu lassen. Ansonsten wre es echt unangenehm gewesen, hierauf eine ber 50 Stunden lange Lesung von “Die Elenden” zu hren. Der Line-Level-Anschluss neben dem Kopfhrer ist groartig, so kann ich den Player sogar theoretisch als DAC fr meine Stereoanlage zuhause verwenden. Positiv fllt auch auf, dass der Player mit meinen recht hochohmigen AKG K712 PRO problemlos klar kommt. Die Lautstrke ist hier mehr als ausreichend, ich wrde sie niemals freiwillig bis 100 drehen, weil mir dann definitiv die Ohren abfallen. Das gilt brigens fr die Low-Gain-Einstellung. High-Gain verwende ich nie. Da msste man schon 250+ Ohm-Kopfhrer verwenden, bis die wirklich einen Sinn ergbe. Fr die meiste Musik reichen auf Low-Gain etwa 10-20%. Fr Opfer der Loudness-War-Doktrin beim Mastering bisweilen sogar 5.
Das Gert funktioniert auch einwandfrei mit meinen Soundcore-Bluetooth-Kopfhrern, was ein nettes Gimmick, fr mich aber nicht wirklich relevant ist. Ich wrde allgemein davon abraten, einen DAP (zumindest in dieser Preisklasse) nur fr Bluetooth-Kopfhrer zu kaufen, weil bei Bluetooth das eigentliche analoge Signal nicht im Player, sondern in den Kopfhrern aus dem digitalen Audio erzeugt wird. Dementsprechend ist die Soundqualitt zu nahezu 100% von den Kopfhrern und nicht von dem Abspielgert abhngig. Da tut es auch (fast) jedes Smartphone oder ein billiger Bluetooth-Player fr 30 Euro.
Dass das Ding kein Android benutzt und nicht netzwerkfhig ist, betrachte ich eher als positiven denn als negativen Aspekt, weil man sich so keine Datenkraken ins Haus holt. Das war fr mich einer der ausschlaggebenden Grnde, keinen Sony-DAP zu kaufen. Man mag mich einen paranoiden Boomer nennen, aber ich schtze es nicht besonders, einen kleinen Spion in meiner Tasche zu haben, der meine Aktivitten verfolgt. Es muss einem aber bewusst sein, dass dadurch kein Abspielen von Spotify/Apple-Music/Amazon-Music/Tidal/etc.-Tracks oder Audible-Hrbchern mglich ist. Zumindest die Hrbcher kann man allerdings mit OpenAudible oder FFMPEG relativ leicht entschlsseln. Ich habe so meine gesamte Audible-Bibliothek zu AAC-Dateien konvertiert, die der Player problemlos abspielt. Ich glaube, dass es hnliche Tools fr Spotify gibt, da ich aber kein Spotify benutze, interessiert mich das wenig.
Toll finde ich, dass das Gert ohne Murren mit Linux (Arch) funktioniert. Das kann man leider wei Gott nicht von jedem anderen DAP sagen. Selbst die DAC-Funktion luft ber Pulseaudio/ALSA problemlos (auch wenn ich diese kaum benutze).
Die Verarbeitung ist ziemlich gut. Viel Metall, nur die Rckseite besteht aus (Plexi-)Glas, was aber dem Design dient. Sowohl die Rckseite als auch das Display sind tatschlich einigermaen kratzfest, ich habe das Ding schon mehrmals mit meinem Schlssel oder Kleingeld zusammen in die Manteltasche getan und bisher hat es alles berstanden. Schn.
Nervig sind allerdings einige Kleinigkeiten in der Bedienung. So ist es etwa nicht mglich, die Lautstrke bei ausgeschaltetem Display zu verndern, den Song anzuhalten oder zu wechseln. Der Display-Schalter funktioniert also quasi wie bei anderen DAPs der Hold-Knopf. Das strt, denn gerade wenn ich das Ding in der Tasche habe und schnell pausieren, den Track wechseln oder die Lautstrke verndern will, muss ich vllig sinnlos erst das Display anschalten, um meine Einstellungen vornehmen zu knnen.
Fast zur Weiglut bringt mich berdies die Art, wie der Player mit Playlists umgeht. Denn der Player hat einige voreingestellte Playlists, deren Namen eher nach Vorbis-Comment-Tags klingen. Zu diesen Playlists kann man am Player selbst Tracks hinzufgen. Eigene Playlists kann man aber nur am PC (Windows-exklusiv, na danke! Funktioniert allerdings Gott sei Dank vernnftig mit WINE) erstellen und dann rberkopieren. WARUM? Wre es so schwer gewesen, dem Nutzer zu ermglichen, am Player selbst Playlists zu erstellen und Tracks hinzuzufgen? Oder wenigstens das Hinzufgen von Tracks zu den am Computer erstellten Playlists? So, wie es jetzt ist, muss ich raten, hinter welcher vorgefertigten Playlist sich welche meiner Tracks verbergen oder meine Playlists vorher am Computer erstellen. Das ist sehr unbefriedigend und es gibt keinen vernnftigen technischen Grund dafr.
Auch ist die Suche echt mhsam. Alphabetische Sortierung ist zwar besser als nichts, aber eine richtige Suchfunktion wre schon schn. Da ich die meisten meiner Tracks in Alben habe und deshalb einen ganz guten berblick, strt mich das allerdings nicht bermig.
Das Interface ist ein bisschen unaufgerumt, aber nach gewisser Einarbeitung ist es durchaus ok. An iPod-Standards kommt es sicherlich nicht heran, aber das erwarte ich auch nicht, wenn der DAP dafr besser klingt. Ein kleiner Tipp, fr den ich recht lange gebraucht habe, um ihn herauszufinden: Wenn man auf dem Songbildschirm ist, kann man die Zurck-Taste lang gedrckt halten, um direkt in das Hauptmen zurckzukehren, ohne dass man sich vorher durch alle Suchebenen klicken muss. Das hat mich am Anfang wahnsinnig gemacht.
Das Selection-Rad ist gut gemacht und erfllt seinen Zweck. Schn, dass hier ein echtes, mechanisches Bauteil verwendet wurde, anstatt dieser verdammten Touch-Rder, die null Haptik haben.
Unterm Strich kann man also festhalten: Hervorragend klingender Player mit brauchbarer Verarbeitung und hoher Kompatibilitt, der allerdings an einer nicht ganz idealen Bedienung leidet. Ich wrde ihn trotzdem im Allgemeinen empfehlen. Es wre schn, wenn die Bedienungsprobleme durch ein Firmwareupdate behoben wrden. Technisch msste das ohne Weiteres mglich sein. Dann gbe es auch fnf Sterne.

I lied, there’s another reason: YOU CAN SCROLL THROUGH YOUR SONG BY LETTER.
Does the Surfans have great sound? Heck yeah! Even with my crappy earbuds that I use for running this thing pumps out sound far stronger than my Sony Walkman MP3 ever did.
Does it have a long lasting battery? Yes! I have the brightness set to the highest possible setting so I can see the very reasonably sized screen outside in the bright country sun and can easily get through seven or eight runs before I have to recharge. I’d imagine if you attached this to something or used it in a different manner the battery may last a little less or longer, but this is just how I use it.
Is it waterproof? I haven’t ran with this thing in the rain, but judging by the looks of it I wouldn’t recommend it. However, my Walkman took getting pelted with water like a champ so maybe this has the same potential? I really don’t think this product was designed to be used outside in such a way; I’m just the odd one using it like an idiot.
Any who, let me get to the ONE thing that I have been trying to find in a MP3 player for almost a year: the ability to quick scroll through your songs via the starting letter. I have a TON of music and while I’m running I’ll constantly want to listen to specific songs-it’s the absolute biggest pain in the butt trying to scroll up and down through roughly a thousands songs trying to land on the exact one you want. This feature is the reason I’ve had my Walkman since freaking 2013 and it STILL works to this day (the lack of storage space was my main reason for looking for a new one).
All you have to do to pull up the quick scroll is make sure you’re on the screen that lists all your songs in alphabetical order. Then, hold down the ‘M’ key for a few seconds and a bar will appear at the bottom of the screen showing the letters of the alphabet. From there you need to scroll either to the left or right depending on the name of the song you’re looking for and the system will quickly scroll forward to the first song that starts with said letter. It’s an AMAZING feature that I hadn’t seen anyone touch on in any reviews. I only found this out because I read the manual and it dropped a tip on how to do that.
The fact that the Surfans has this feature built in earns it a five-star rating in my book. I know this isn’t the most important thing for a lot of people, but if you’re like me and trying to find an MP3 player that lets you easily and quickly pick what song you want to listen to then I can’t recommend this player enough!
The player is a solid, quality piece. I tested the sound quality with some lossless flac tracks and was very pleased with the results. The controls are a bit quirky but once you’ve got used to them they become logical. For instance, the pause button will only work when the track you are playing is displayed. If the display times out, it has to be activated again for the control to work. At first I thought there was something wrong before I realised why. The unit doesn’t come with headphones but this allows you to choose your own preference. I’ve had players before that the supplied headphones never got used. I would have liked a soft case but there doesn’t seem to be one available. Bottom line, now I’ve got used to it, I really like this player.
I’ve had the Surfans f20 for a little while and I find it a great little unit. It has an intuitive user interface, don’t really need a touch screen on a DAP, though you have to spin the wheel a lot to scroll through the menus. This doesn’t really bother me though, and the wheel loosens up with use. I mostly use explorer mode to navigate through a folder structure. I also appreciate a back button, as I use that a lot with this DAP.
I mostly use the analog line out to drive a headphone amp, and I’m using high end headphones most of the time (Audeze LCD-2’s). The little Surfans holds its own nicely, not sounding out of place in my setup. The sound is excellent, with plenty of punchiness and slam, and incredible dynamics on hi-res files. It sounds very transparent, with a touch of warmth, which is very nice. I’ve also used the line out to connect to a couple speaker systems, and the f20 sounds great as a source in those setups as well.
It plays everything I throw at it, including cue files, wma files, Apple aac and lossless, hi-res FLACs, and DSD files. DSD in particular sounds incredible, with great definition and dynamics, plenty of snap and impact. These are huge files, but using a 256gb sd card holds plenty of hi-res tunes, around 5000 songs which is a lot. The difference with hi-res files is definitely noticeable, which is a tribute to how resolving this player is.
Overall, I think the Surfans f20 is a tremendous value, and sounds as good or better than units costing many times its price. I think the sound quality is its greatest strength, and having a dedicated line out was a big plus for me, one of the main reasons I chose it over other units. Just one thing I wasn’t impressed with was the headphone out, which was lacking power for me. Had to pump it on high gain to drive my Sony V6’s, which are pretty efficient headphones. Make sure you have efficient cans if you want to use this to drive your headphones directly (IEMs or Grados should work). I like using a dedicated headphone amp anyway, so this doesn’t bother me. This DAP does everything I ask it to and more, and I’m very happy with my purchase.
Great system for the price. Maxed out at 15000 songs. Wish it could hold more.

Ich bin kein Freund von Touchscreens, brauche kein Radio und verabscheue alles mgliche an Software-Tdellt. Ich will keinen Ballast welcher die Bedienung erschwert durch etliche Zusatzfunktionen. Ich will auch nicht da mein Gert nachhause telefoniert oder irgendwelche “smarten” Profiling-Optionen nutzt.
Ich bin eher konservativ und schtze Qualitt und Funktionalitt (nach eigenen Bedrfnissen).
Kurzum, als MP3-Player will ich ausschlielich meine Musik und meine Audiobooks spielen. Dabei htte ich gerne viel Speicherplatz und eine einfache, vorzugsweise intuitive, Bedienung. Lossless ist ein Muss und ein ausdauernder Akku sehr vorteilhaft. Auch optisch sollte mein Geschmack bedient werden und wenn das Gert auch noch haltbar/wertig daherkommt dann bin ich wunschlos glcklich.
All das finde ich hier tatschlich. Somit fr mich ein perfekter Player.
Was fr mich allerdings berflssig ist das Drehrad. Das benutze ich gar nicht und handlich finde ich diese Funktion eigentlich auch nicht. Das Arbeiten mit den wenigen Knpfen hingegen gefllt mir auerordentlich gut. Man kommt schnell damit klar.
Ich habe eine volle 256 GB-Karte in Betrieb an diesem Gert. Die Zugriffszeiten bleiben auch in der musikalischen Flle angenehm schnell. Frs Anschalten und Laden nimmt der Player bei mir max. etwa 10 Sekunden in Anspruch. Manchmal geht es auch deutlich schneller. Mag vielleicht an den Temperaturen liegen.
Super finde ich den Akku. Es dauert ewig bis ich mal wieder aufladen mu. Ich hre tglich immer wieder mal etwas Musik (1-2 Std.) und brauchte bisher vor Ablauf einer Woche keinen Blick auf den Ladestand werfen. Noch ist das Gert aber auch neu. Bleibt anzuwarten ob das lange so bleiben wird.
Meine hrhrer sind brigens mit Kabel. Einwandfreier Hrgenuss! Wie der Hrgenuss mit kabellosen Lsungen zu bewerten ist wei ich daher nicht. Bluetooth-Hrer sind aber in Planung. Vielleicht liefere ich noch eine Beurteilung nach.
Abseits des Equalizers bietet der Player auerdem eine Verstrker-Funktion die die Lautstrke krftig anheben kann. Ab und zu mu Musik halt mit ordentlich Bums gehrt werden. Wunderbar!
Ansonsten gibt es kaum noch etwas anzumerken. Daten bertrage ich wie bei allen Datenspeichern bequem via drag&drop am PC. Das Display des Players bietet ein gutes Bild bei der auch die Schrift den Bedrfnissen angepasst werden kann. Suche ich nach Titeln oder Ordnern, so ist die Struktur entsprechend der auf dem PC. Man findet schnell ans Ziel.
Abschlieend noch ein Lob fr die Bauart des Players. Das Gert macht richtig was her. Es ist ein formschnes handliches Stck das nicht den Eindruck macht leicht zerstrbar zu sein. Es sieht alles sehr wertig aus und fhlt sich auch so an. Qualitt auen wie innen, so wie sich mir das darstellt.
Bleibt nur zu hoffen da der Player mir auch lange die Treue hlt.
Ich mag zu diesem Zeitpunkt auf jeden Fall meine ungetrbte Empfehlung aussprechen. Groartiger Player!
that delivers excellent sound . The menu takes a bit of getting used to
but that might just be me.
The music player was bought as a Xmas present for my wife. She likes it and says it’s great. The only niggle with it is it comes installed with Chinese as the default language, and only the left side of the earphone is working at the start. I’m hoping that she will rectify that when she reads the instructions. I am disappointed that a unit of this quality did not come with it’s own earphones….
With a good pair of ear buds (sennheiser), the sound is amazing on this. Better than my old ipod, for sure. It even sounds decent–if not as good–on my crappy pair of bluetooth headphones. The range was also fine–I left the device on the table downstairs and it finally cut out when I went upstairs, but I was at least 30 feet away (at the top of the stairwell) before the connection gave up, which is fine for my purposes.
It’s a little quirky: The English translations are more than a little odd. The play list function is tedious (see below). I like the click wheel, but it’s stiff and I thought it wasn’t working at first. I had to get used to some of the controls, but it’s a sturdy little device with really good sound,and was under $100 when I bought it, so I’m pleased with my purchase.
I will also say it was really easy to get my files from my Mac onto the device: just plugged it in and dragged the files over as mine were all in MP3 files anyway. I haven’t yet found a good app to manage the music and make playlists (which, btw, I plan to do on my PC, NOT my macbook, as part of my point with this purchase was getting away from the Apple system. This device doesn’t work with Itunes or Apple Music, but it’s not difficult to move your music from Itunes folders–I just dragged and dropped my music file. ) I’m sure I’ll enjoy this even more once I’ve figured out a good music manager to make playlists. (There is a rather tedious way to make playlists through the device itself, but I suspect there is an easier method). I almost didn’t keep it because I really really want multiple playlists, and haven’t quite figured that out yet, but I will. And the sound quality is far too good for me to send it back.
Short version: sound quality, cost, and size make this an excellent replacement for an ipod classic, and I’m really happy with it.
Gleich zu Beginn die Nachteile, deren man sich vor dem Kauf bewusst sein sollte:
1. Der Player hat keinen eigenen Musikspeicher. Alles liegt auf der Speicherkarte, also gleich eine Grere bereithalten.
2. Die Anzeige der Laufzeit eines Titels kann bei eingeschalteter Anzeige des Plattencovers unleserlich sein. Bei manchen Covern geht es besser, aber dann ist die Anzeige trotzdem sehr klein.
3. Wenn neue Titel in die Sammlung aufgenommen werden, wird die Datensammlung komplett neu aufgebaut und das kann dauern.
4. Sieben Playlists sind voreingestellt und zustzlich zu den Favoriten verfgbar. Eigene Namen kann man den Listen nicht geben. Sie heien Mood, Scenes, Era, Theme, Genre, Instrument, Languages. ndern der Reihenfolge in einer Playlist geht nicht. Durch hin und zurckkopieren zwischen Playlist und Favoriten kann man die Reihenfolge doch noch ndern. Fr lange Listen ist das aber mhsam. (Whrend ich dies ausprobiere stelle ich fest, dass einige Stcken nach der letzten Aktualisierung der Titel in der Playlist nicht mehr erkannt werden. Also knnen Playlists durch Aktualisieren der Gesamttitelliste korumpieren, fast schon ein No go).
5. Die Bedienung des Players geht in Ordnung. Es stimmt, dass bei abgeschaltetem Display keine Tasten mehr ansprechen, auch nicht die Lautstrketaster. Aber der Player reagiert auch dann noch auf eine Lautsterkeregelung durch Bluetoothkopfhrer (ausprobiert mit Huawei Freebuds pro). Die Lautstrkeanzeige wird aber nicht angepasst. Begrenzung der Lautstrke zum Hrschutz ist mir nicht aufgefallen.
6. Klang: Fr meine Ohren richtig gut. Ich hatte bisher einen Cowon J3. Zu seiner Zeit gut und nicht billig. Der klingt nicht besser.
7. Menfhrung: Die Basisbedienung ist Ok, Die Einstellungen sind unbersichtlich. Warum gibt es Einstellungen und extra Systemeinstellungen? Warum befindet sich der Sleeptimer unter Systemeinstellungen / Display? Warum wird bei Aktivieren von”Hintergrundbild” ein unkenntliches Pixelbildchen in der rechten oberen Ecke angezeigt? Was soll das?
Wrde ich den Player empfehlen? Wer guten Klang fr bezahlbares Geld jetzt dringend braucht, kann ihn sich berlegen, wenn er die Einschrnkungrn in Kauf nehmen kann. Gute Alternativen habe ich keine gefunden. Auch deutlich teurere Gerte haben ihre Pferdefe. Wrde ich ihn selbst wieder kaufen? Ich wrde eher weiter suchen. Mein Cowon J3 war war von der Bedienung und Funktionalitt (modifiziertes Betriebssystem) deutlich flexibler. Leider sind Akku und Bluetooth deutlich gealtert.

Der Player hat ein Softwareupdate erhalten. Die Funktionen des Players habe ich inzwischen schtzen gelernt. Die Playlists bleiben inzwischen erhalten und geben kaum noch Anlass zur Kritik (Umbenennen und nderung der Sortierung wren noch wnschenswert. Ich habe der Berwertung einen Stern hinzugefgt und gebe zu, den Kauf nicht bereut zu haben. Auch jetzt kenne ich keinen anderen Player, den ich diesem vorziehen wrde.
This also used in the car using a cassette adapter connected via the 3.5mm stereo jack. There are two of these sockets; one for is headphones, the other being line out. I connected the cassette adapter via the line out initially. This produces distortion. On the headphones jack it sound faultless.
I did have question about the rotating selector control, so I emailed the manufacturer’s after sales support they replied quickly, so the manufacturers’ after-sales is good.
The Surfans F20 has an alloy case which gives it a weighty, quality feel. A slight glitch in the software does occasionally result in album artwork not being displayed. Another improvement that could be made by the manufacturers’ is giving the option of a larger font size. The screen is small and neat. The downside being that the information script has to be tiny.
Overall this is a good quality device in terms of sound quality and solid build. At around 100 you get what you pay for. Experience has resulted in that I would recommend this over less expensive players, as so far it has proved to be more hassle-free than those.
I have only used it maybe a dozen times over the last 6 weeks. It was perfect for the first few uses, but then I started hearing rattling sounds inside when I moved it.
The last time i used it I pulled it out of my pocket and the rear plate had separated from the body of the device. Apparently the screws attaching the back plate were not screwed in. There is a hard plastic sheet covering the rear plate so you cannot reach the screws to reattach the plate without damaging the plastic sheet.
When I was trying to figure out why the back plate was not attached I moved it to the side, where I saw 2 screws sitting on the board. So the rattling sounds were 2 loose screws that were bouncing around inside the mp3 player.
I was really excited about this device and when it was in one piece it was awesome. I will be returning it and hopefully Amazon will take care of the problem.
UPDATE:
After posting my first review Surfans got in touch with me and sent me a replacement device free of charge. The original device was faulty, but their customer service with me was top notch.
After using the F20 for a few weeks the replacement has held up much better than my first. It is built like a little tank, carved out of an aluminum block, and all the buttons and dial feel solid and firm. There are no rattles and everything seems to be bolted down properly.
The operating system and display are functional but pretty basic. It is easy to understand the menu system and after a few minutes you can get around well. One thing cool is you can set the volume on startup so you always know how loud it will be. Another is you can just drag n’ drop your files the SD card without having to mess around with iTunes or anything.
The sound is really good. I’m not an audiophile, but I try to choose equipment that makes my music sound best. With a mid-range set of earbuds I listen to a variety of music, from old jazz to rock and dance music. Everything I listened to sounded great. The bass thumped, the treble is clear with no distortion, and the sound is just consistently pleasant.
I was really looking forward to my F20 when I first got it, and I was really disappointed to have to send it back. I was happy to get the replacement and finally get to enjoy it. It is as good as I had hoped.
It is not super-polished, but if you are into the idea of a bare-bones music delivery device that sounds great you’ll probably like it a lot.
“The click wheel is too hard to move”
Yeah, sure. If you’re an infant. Admittedly it was a little stiff when I first got it, but after even just a few minutes of moving it back and forth that appears to have worked out. My advice: keep fiddling with it back and forth and it should smooth out. This isn’t to say no one received a defective wheel. But in my own experience, the wheel is fine

What glass isn’t? But sure, if that’s really so much of a concern… then if only the glass was on some less seen place the device usually had covered, like the back. Oh wait…
“I have to turn on the power button before raising volume or changing songs”
Yes, admittedly having to do this to change the volume is an odd choice. It is not however, a deal breaker and the screen instantly wakes up when you press the power button, so I really don’t see this as a problem. Consider the alternative. You slip this in your pocket, and the controls (which are not flush) tap around without your input. Not really a better alternative. That being said, I think the compromise is fine.
“Build quality is bad”
Not sure what you expected for this price, but to have a decently weighted zinc alloy hifi player with plated connectors in a hidden-screw chassis… Is a good example of decent build quality. Now I can’t speak for the durability yet but I will update that if this changes. As for fit and finish, I say it’s great for the price.
“It’s too hard to use”
It really isn’t and they give you a VERY detailed manual to help. This isn’t an ipod. It’s a hifi player made for audiophiles and soundgear snobs. These people KNOW how to figure a device out and this one is no different. Plus it has a few neat options built in like a custom default volume and display settings control.
BUT HOW DOES IT SOUND?
I am not a professional studio producer, and I don’t have thousands of dollars in audio equipment. But I have extensive enough experience with sound equipment and enough resources to be able to give a verdict:. This thing stomps. Bass is clear and precise, not boomy. Mids are strong and extremely well defined. Highs have just a bit of shimmer and the entire spectrum comes together very well. You can absolutely pick out and concentrate on whatever instrument in the mix you choose, and the width presented is very impressive and by the same token, very immersive. The DAC in this device is noticably solid, and provides an awesome listening experience. It’s very forgiving and enjoyable even through MP3’s but FLAC and other Lossless files are definitely where the player shines. And it absolutely will point out flaws in a mix, so it’s a great way to put your favorite songs to the test. For something portable and relatively inexpensive, it slams the mark dead on.
The player also features 2 way bluetooth so it can stream from your smartphone towards it, using it’s own circuitry to reproduce and deliver your music. It does this instantly when activated, and does it very well. Even generic streaming songs sound noticeably better ran through the F20’s circuitry than they do straight wired to a smartphone. I’m very happy to say this feature works well and is a great way to find new music while at work or outside of your lossless library.
Overall, my initial impressions of this player are that I am highly impressed and I look forward to seeing how it holds up. As mentioned before, if anything changes, I’ll edit this review to reflect it, but for now Im going to give it 4 stars, and keep enjoying what it has to offer.

PROS:
1. Very easy to create and edit playlists – Once I attach it to my PC, it shows up immediately as “removable device” and I can create and edit as many playlists as I want on my computer; no more quirky iTunes business. Just drag and drop the music into the folders (Note: be sure to “eject” the player before removing the cable, and WAIT for the player to update before turning off. I started noticing missing playlists and tracks because I wasn’t doing that; the player will tell you when it is finished updating).
2. Battery life is excellent – the battery lasts a long time, aided by the fact that it goes into sleep mode after a few minutes, which can be a little bit of an issue (see CONS below).
3. Looks and feels great – For an affordable mp3 player, it feels substantial and looks like it means business. No cheap, light plastic toy feel; the gray metal casing and shiny, reflective backing provide nice tactile sensations
4. Sound quality – The sound is really excellent, but of course a lot depends on the ear buds or headphones you’re using. The different sound modes make it easy to configure, and if you really want to tinker, there is a full equalizer function. I don’t bother with that because there’s too much variation of the sound of my music files.
5. Lots of features – I haven’t toyed with all of the features this unit has, so I can’t review them, but if you read the description and other reviews you know you’re getting a lot of functionality for your money.
6. Bluetooth pairing is easy – The unit pairs easily with my Bluetooth wireless speaker and earbuds (I can’t get it to recognize my car, so I use an audio cable plugged into the AUX jack and it works fine). When you turn your speaker of earbuds on again, the unit pairs with them unprompted which is really convenient.
Now for the CONS:
1. Unit “sleeps” after only a few minutes – the player will go into sleep mode after a few minutes, and you cannot adjust how long it is awake before it goes into sleep mode. If you want to adjust volume, change to a different playlist or jump to the next song, you have to press the button on top of the unit FIRST to wake it up, THEN make your changes. This can be annoying, and other reviewers have complained about this, but in my opinion it’s manageable. I use Bluetooth earbuds with a built-in remote control, so I can pause, rewind and advance tracks even while the player sleeps. If I want to change playlists I have to wake it up.
2. No touchscreen – the controls are entirely button operated, and unlike iPods, you can’t rearrange tracks on a playlist by swiping. If you love touchscreens this will be a negative for you, but it doesn’t bother me. Using the Bluetooth earbuds with remote control I can jump forward or back, and the nested folders and options are easy to navigate with the buttons. Musik abspielen funktioniert problemlos. Die Wiedergabequalitt ist wirklich ausgezeichnet auch mit Bluetooth, ohne Wenn und Aber. Das Dateilimit ist auf 256GB ausgelegt, was in jedem Falle mehr als ausreichend ist. Ca. 60 000 Titel sollen so auf die auf Speicherkarte passen und anschlieend problemlos abgespielt werden. Das Einlesen der vielen Titel erfolgt nach einschieben der SD-Card automatisch und sehr zgig.

mein Fazit:
Das hochwertige Chassis aus Zinklegierung bietet ein angenehmes Tragegefhl. Es vermittelt einen wertigen Eindruck und liegt sehr gut in der Hand. Der schicke Player ist einfach zu bedienen, die Schriftgre lsst etwas zu wnschen brig. Er verfgt ber viele Einstelloptionen bis hin zu einem Equalizer. Die Lautstrkeanpassung ist leicht ber die beiden Seitenknpfchen rechts zu bedienen. Titel und Cover werden im Display eingeblendet. Der Akku ldt innerhalb von 3 Stunden vollstndig auf und das Gert steht dann im Dauerbetrieb 10-12 Stunden zur Verfgung. Die Musikqualitt ist absolut top. Was will man mehr. Kabelanschluss oder Bluetooth sind mglich. Verschieden Kopfhrer funktionieren tadellos.

PS: Anfangs hatte ich Probleme mit der bertragung per Kabel. Es wurde nur ein Kanal angesteuert. Hier muss man nur den Stecker richtig fest einschieben, ganz bis zum Ende. Dann funktioniert auch Stereo. Viel Spa.
Sicherlich nicht ein kostengnstiges Gert. Aber dieser MP3-Player hebt sich aus dem Meer der Plastikgesellschaft in Qualitt, Konzept und Durchgngigkeit deutlich heraus und ist fr diese Leistung sehr preiswert.
Die Bedienbarkeit und Erscheinungsform ist unschlagbar gut. Eine ordentliche Erscheinungsform die man in der Hand sprt. Der Bildschirm ist in Gre und Lesbarkeit wirklich ein Bildschirm. Die Knpfe sind in der groen Form und Platzierung ideal fr eine Blindbedienung gefertigt. Das ist ja der Sinn bei MP3-Playern. Man mu ihn, ohne jedesmal das Gert visuell studieren zu mssen was den Musikgenu strt, blind bedienen knnen! Dazu sind die Knpfe so sinnvoll verteilt, dass diese Blindbedienung sptestens nach dem zweiten Musikstck per Intuition machbar ist. Touchscreen sind hier kompletter Unsinn. Man denke nur an MP3 ber das Handy, was bei Sonne nur Stress ist in der Bedienung ist.
Die Einstellungen ber das Men sind selbsterklrend, obwohl eine Bedienungsanleitung beiliegt. Hier glnzt das Gert durch eine einfache und unkomplizierte Bedienung, obwohl viele Einstellmglichkeiten vorhanden sind. Einfach die Ordner mit MP3 vom PC auf das Gert kopieren. Die gleiche Ordnerstruktur findet man im Gert wieder und hat alles wie gewohnt vorliegen! Einfach und wirkungsvoll. So einfach habe ich noch nie ein Gert ausgepackt und in Betrieb genommen.
Und nun die grte berraschung, die Tonqualitt. Das habe ich aus einem MP3-Player noch nicht erlebt, sondern nur ber Hifi High-End-Gerte. Die technischen Daten hielt ich am Anfang unrealistisch. bertragung 20-20.000 Hz klingt nach satten Bssen und klingenden Hhen… und bei welchem Pegel? Das erste Hrergebnis mit einem mittelmigen Kopfhrer hat mich total begeistert. Satte Bsse und klare Hhen, auch bei kleinen Tonpegeln. Zugegebenermaen habe ich dazu vorher einen individuell eingestellten EQ benutzt, was bei diesem Gert mglich ist. Das ist absolute Spitzenklasse.
Insgesamt ist das Erscheinungsbild ein wertiges, gelungenes und stabiles Gert mit einem groen Akku. Eine seltene gute Ausnahme aus dem Meer der vielen minderwertigen Plastikplayern. Vorbehaltlich der noch unbekannten Langzeithaltbarkeit hat dieser Player mehr als 5 Punkte verdient.
Also ich kann die negativrezensionen, die sich ber die angeblich so komplizierte handhabung beschweren, absolut nicht nachvollziehen.
mit play besttigt man, mit dem knopf unten rechts geht’s zurck. mit den beiden tasten oben rechts kann man hoch und runter scrollen. (was das scroll-rad um die playtaste herum ehrlich gesagt berflssig macht, und ich verwende es auch nur wenn ich den equalizer anpasse).
Das einzige, was mich berrascht hat, ist dass das gert etwas gro und wuchtig wirkt, hatte es mir ein ganz klein wenig kleiner vorgestellt, aber das ist okay. es ist berraschend leichter als bei den Maen angenommen. Alles wirkt gut verarbeitet und technisch gesehen funkioniert das gert groartig.
Die einzigen dinge, die ich anders gemacht htte wren, das Hauptmen anders zu gestalten und statt einem rad vier tasten (hoch, runter, links, rechts) zu verbauen, wobei link und rechts dann die funktion von den forward/backwards-tasten oben rechts bernehmen und diese damit wegfielen.
ansonsten fllt mir nur noch ein, dass es cooler gewesen wre, nicht erst mit dem knopf oben drauf den bildschirm aktivieren zu mssen, um lauter und leiser zu machen oder zum nchsten lied klicken zu knnen (wobei das durch meine bluetetooh-earbuds eigentlich eh wegfllt, daher halb so wild).
Meine Kritikpunkte sind also nur kleinigkeiten.
die technische leistung und die optionen des gerts sind wirklich klasse, kann es nur jedem empfehlen.
Auerdem richtet sich dieser Player an Nutzer, die bereit sind sich intensiv mit dem Gert (Funktionen) und ihren Audio-Dateien (Formate) zu beschftigen.
Natrlich knnt ihr mit diesem Gert hier auch eure MP3 Dateien abspielen, aber hier geht es zum einen um DAC (digital to Analog Converter) und vor allem um die verlustfreien Dateiformate wie FLAC. Und dafr braucht es, neben der entsprechenden Technik auf dem Gert natrlich ein riesiges Speichervolumen. Ich habe mal einige MP3 und FLAC in meiner Musikbibliothek verglichen. Es ist teilweise die 8 fache Datenmenge (z.B. 4,1 zu 30,7 MB).
Die Datenrate der oben verglichenen Datei (gleicher Titel natrlich): 128 zu 940 kBit/s.
Daher ist es auch fast unabdingbar, dass hier eine 256 GB SD-Karte geht und auch hier solltet ihr unbedingt auf Qualitt achten! Eine U3 Class 10 sollte hier schon sein (um die 50).
Apropos Speicherkarte: Auf der beiliegenden 32 GB SD befindet sich eine Bedienungsanleitung als PDF was auch dringend erforderlich ist, weil das beigefgte Buch im Miniformat” kaum lesbar ist.
Auerdem ein DAC Treiber und ein M3U Treiber fr den PC, was ich fr sehr sinnvoll erachte, weil man so z.B. Playlists direkt am PC erstellen kann. Und das nicht nur fr diesen Player 😉
Beide Treiber funktionieren astrein. Bei der Installation des DAC muss man aber vorher einiges beachten. Aber eine Anleitung dafr ist ebenfalls auf der SD.
Noch ein wichtiger Hinweis: Das Gert ist in puncto Klang optimal eingestellt. Also bitte nicht am Equalizer rumspielen”, weil die Harmonie damit hin ist und ihr es m.E. nur mit eine Reset wieder hinbekommt.
Ich habe den Player an meinen alten analogen Verstrker angeschlossen und was dann in Zusammenhang mit meiner Haman Kardon 5.1 Anlage rauskommt ist ein Traum :-)) Also bitte hochwertige Empfnger (Kopfhrer, Verstrker, ) verwenden. Und bei dieser Nutzungsart gibt es noch 2 schne Effekte/Funktionen: 1. Das Gert hat einen Bluetooth Transceiver (Sender + Empfnger) und man kann daher Musik von anderen Gerten (z.B. PC, Smartphone) auf dem Player abspielen. 2. Der USB ist OTG fhig und daher kann man dort einen entsprechen Stick anschlieen (siehe meine Bilder) und von diesem abspielen. Ein normaler Stick mit OTG Adapter geht natrlich auch.
Das Men ist fr mich absolut einleuchtend und selbsterklrend. Die Handhabung kann man in puncto Bedienkomfort als exzellent bezeichnen, weil es viele groe Button gibt, und keine Doppelbelegungen. Apropos gro: Bitte beachten, dass es sich hier um ziemlich groes Gert handelt!
Was die Bedienung im Men anbelangt, macht auch das groe Display einen richtig guten Job. Alles ist sehr gut lesbar. Bei der einzelnen Titelanzeige mit Hintergrundbild (Album) und Lauftext, fllt es schwer den Lauftext (Titel etc.) zu lesen. Hier hatte ich aber auch noch keine Lust zu schauen inwieweit sich das verndern lsst. Warum auch? Man kennt ja die Titel 😉
Die physische Qualitt und die Verarbeitung des Teils sind absolut wertig, was ich bei diesem Preis auch vorausgesetzt habe. Wirklich edel!
Ich wollte maximal eine A4-Seite schreiben und da sind wir jetzt. Wenn ihr hren knntet wie mager die 4,1 MB MP3 Datei im Vergleich zu der 30,1 MB FLAC Datei klingt . Ich kann nur allen empfehlen auf ein Format wie FLAC und einen entsprechenden wertigen Player, wie diesen hier umzusteigen.
Der hier vorliegende Player erfllt vor allen Dingen eines. Er spielt MP 3 Songs zuverlssig und Multikompatibel ab .
Hierbei knnte man auch getrost die fehlende Kompatibilitt mit iTunes und Co. vergessen. Im heutigen MP 3 Dschungel gibt es noch wesentlich mehr als den Apple-Einheitsbrei.”
Der Player an sich:
Er ist recht massiv und auch schwer von der Verarbeitung her. Ich hatte keine Lust mehr auf den ganzen Plastikmll” mit dem man heutzutage berall zugeschwemmt wird und habe mich bewusst fr ein robustes Abspielgert entschieden, welches auch im tglichen Einsatz den Belastungen standhlt.
Die Menfhrung des Surfans F20 MP 3 Player ist sehr simpel und strukturiert gehalten und drfte auch Medialen-Neulingen auf dem Gebiet groe Freude und die Mglichkeit zu einem schnell Einstieg bereiten. Skipping, Shuffle, Laut- und Leise lsst sich einfach und schnell regulieren.
MP 3 erweckt heutzutage eine gewisse Anspruchshaltung, die dieser Player im Hinblick auf Gertekompatibilitt, Haptik und Qualitativ einwandfreies Abspiel bis dato in jeglicher Hinsicht erfllt
Die Klangqualitt hngt natrlich auch mit dem Kopfhrer zusammen. Ich nutze hier meinen Bose Soundlink oder den Mayor Monitor. ber Bluetooth als auch via Klinkenkabel ist die Wiedergabequalitt absolute Klasse!
Nichtsdestotrotz wurden hier fr den Surfans MP 3 Player noch ein paar Hausaufgaben mehr sehr gut gemacht. Die Verbindung z. B. ber Plug&Play funktioniert tadellos. Die relativ geringe Ladezeit (mit meiner Powerbank bentige ich ca. 2,5 Stunden) bei komplett entladenem Akku. Dieser reicht anschlieend fr eine Spielzeit von ca. 26-27 Stunden, was ich auerordentlich gut finde.
Das Zubehr des Surfans F20 :
Unter uns, ich bin froh, dass man sich die obligaorischen “Billigkopfhrer” hier geschenkt hat. Die blicherwesie mit solchen gerten angebotnen “Ohrenquler” sind nie etwas fr geschulte” Ohren. Ich benutze den Player mit meinen Bose Soundlinks Kopfhrern, meinen beyerdynamic DT990Pro sowie meinem Philips Fidelio. Ich habe mit diesen Settings einen komfortablen und zuverlssigen MP 3 Player an meiner Seite, der optisch etwas her macht und sich nach sehr kurzer Eingewhnung blind bedienen lsst. Genau richtig fr Alle die nicht mit einem Player fr 5,99 Euro herum laborieren wollen. — Fr diese Zielgruppe kann ich den Player ruhigen Gewissens empfehlen..
Die mitgelieferte Speicherkarte ist vollkommen in Ordnung und hlt Reserven fr etliche tausend Songs in Reserve.
Mein Fazit:
Wer einen MP 3 Player bentigt um ihn tagtglich fr Musik, eBooks und Co, zu benutzen macht definitiv nichts falsch, dafr aber im Hinblick auf den Preis und den Nutzen sehr viel richtig. Wer zudem noch etwas fr ordentliche Kopfhrer anlegt braucht sich auch vor den ansonsten groen Namen im MP3-Player-Geschft” nicht zu verstecken.
Liegt gut in der Hand und ist robust.
Einzig das Scrollrad bedarf meiner Gewhnung.
Ich hre nur “Flac’s” und keine “MP3”. Und das beherrscht der “iRULU” meisterhaft.
Gekoppelt habe ich den Player mit dem “Neoteck Kopfhrer-Verstrker”.

Ich verwende das Gert mit einem Sennheiser Momentum-Kopfhrer, der mit Oehlbach XXL i-jack 25 Kopfhrerkabel (2,5 auf 3,5 mm-Klinke) angeschlossen ist.
Ebenfalls gleich vorweg: meine Erwartungen sind bei weitem bertroffen worden.
Verarbeitung und Haptik:
das Gert macht einen wertigen und robusten Eindruck. Das Gehuse ist aus Metall. Alle Knpfe lassen sich przise bedienen, der Druckpunkt ist klar definiert, straff und schliet eine versehentliche Bedienung aus. Das Scroll-Rad lsst sich ebenfalls gut und einhndig bedienen, ich habe keinerlei Schwierigkeiten damit; im Gegenteil, es ist fr ein Gert dieser Gre ein ideales Bedieninstrument.
Das Display hat einen guten Kontrast und eine angenehme Farbdarstellung, es ist in der Helligkeit regelbar. Klar ist, dass Songtitel und -texte auf einem 2,0”-Bildschirm klein dargestellt werden, lange Texte werden jedoch als Laufschrift von rechts nach links wiedergegeben. Gut gelst, finde ich.
Klang:
haut mich vom Hocker. Als ich dieses kleine Gert zum ersten Mal in der Hand hatte, htte ich nicht erwartet, welche Qualitt hier rauskommt.
Ich habe mir hochaufgelste Musiktitel per Download gekauft (WAV-Format, je Album ca. 1,8 GByte). Auerdem einige meiner Lieblings-CD`s gerippt (FLAC) und auf die Speicherkarte kopiert. Nach meinem Eindruck wird Musik absolut realistisch und naturgetreu” wiedergegeben, so wie sie aufgenommen wurde. In Verbindung mit dem beschriebenen Kopfhrer macht der iRULU F20 eine groe rumliche Bhne auf, alle Instrumente sind klar ortbar, hinzu kommt eine beeindruckende Dynamik. Einfach klasse. Den integrierten Equalizer habe ich noch nicht angefasst, weil er fr meine Begriffe gar nicht bentigt wird – ich wsste nicht was ich damit verbessern sollte.
Der iRULU F20 verfgt ber einen sehr hochwertigen AUX-Ausgang, so dass er auch als Abspielgert fr Audioanlagen genutzt werden kann. Im direkten Vergleich (iRULU mit gerippten CD’s angeschlossen und gleichzeitig die entsprechende CD im CD-Player) ist auch auf sehr guten Anlagen kein Unterschied zum erheblich teureren CD-Player hrbar. Verblffend.
Hinweis:
im Lieferumfang war bei mir eine 32 GByte Speicherkarte. Die ist aber m.E. zu langsam. Fr MP3-Dateien wird es sicher gehen, bei groen WAV-Dateien gibt es gelegentlich Aussetzer. Ich bin deshalb auf eine SanDisk Extreme-Karte umgestiegen, damit hatte ich bisher keine Probleme.
Fazit:
Mich berzeugt der iRULU F20 auf ganzer Linie. Wenn man dann noch den Preis bercksichtigt, kommt nur eine Maximalwertung in Frage. Wer gern intensiv und konzentriert Musik hrt und eine herausragende Tonqualitt erwartet, wird von diesem Gert positiv berrascht sein und sehr viel Freude damit haben.
Seit langer Zeit wieder mal einen MP3 Player gekauft.
Gleich nach dem Auspacken kam der erste Wow-Effekt. In echt sieht der MP3 Player noch wesentlich besser aus als auf den Fotos. Er macht einen uerst hochwertigen Eindruck und ist auch relativ massiv und schwer.
Aufladen kann man den MP3 Player an jeder USB Stromquelle, ein Adapterkabel ist im Lieferumfang enthalten. Die Bedienung ist kinderleicht und selbsterklrend. Die Mensprache ist das verstndlich und auf Deutsch verfgbar. Der MP3 Player verfgt ber einen 3,5 mm Klinkenanschluss, kann aber auch mit Bluetooth Kopfhrern gekoppelt werden. Die Tonqualitt und die Lautstrke sind sehr gut. Der interne Speicher besteht aus einer Micro SD Karte “im Lieferumfang 32 Gigabyte” Wer also auf der Suche nach einem hochwertigen MP3 Player ist wird hier fndig.
Da mein alter MP3-Player, den ich fr das Auto nutzte, so langsam den Geist aufgibt (dachte ich), musste ein neuer her. Der alte Player hatte irgendwann zwar im Player selbst Alben und Knstler angezeigt, aber im Auto dann ab einem bestimmten Buchstaben einfach nichts mehr angezeigt. Da ich niemals Probleme zuvor hatte war mir klar, dass hier der Player langsam nicht mehr mag. Wie sich bei diesem tollen Gert hier herausstellte, lag es wohl nicht am Player, sondern am Auto 😀 Dennoch habe ich den iRULU nicht zurckgeschickt, denn er hat etwas, was ich bei meinem alten Player vermisst habe: Eine funktionierende Bluetooth-Funktion. Mein alter Player besitzt zwar auch Bluetooth, aber ich bekam diese nie mit dem Auto gekoppelt. Der iRULU lsst sich mit meinem Clio sehr gut koppeln, es funktioniert einwandfrei.
Das Design sah mir auf den Fotos erst was klobig aus, aber als ich ihn dann in der Hand gehalten habe merkte ich erst, wie hbsch das Gert wirklich ist. Equalizer und solche Spielereien sind auch vorhanden, nutze ich aber nicht, deswegen kann ich dazu nichts sagen. Was ich allerdings doof finde ist, dass er bei jedem Start erstmal alle Songs auf der SD-Karte zhlen muss (ich habe ber 5.000 Songs drauf, das kann dann schonmal was dauern), dennoch startet das Gert immer sehr schnell, wenn es per Kabel mit dem Auto verbunden ist, da kriegt man vom Zhlen der Songs nichts mit. Bei Start wird immer da weitergespielt, wo zuletzt aufgehrt wurde. Ich bin rundum zufrieden mit dem Player.
Der iRULU Player sieht wertig aus, und hat sehr gute technische Parameter, die man sogar (im Vergleich mit anderen Playern ) deutlich hrt. In Verbindung mit dem PC ist die Dateistruktur gut zu hndeln. Ebenso die Orientierung mit den div. Tasten + Drehsteller beim Abspielen.
Alles Paletti ? Nicht ganz: Das beigelegte User Manual ist wohl durch einen Komprimierer gelaufen.
Viele sehr kurze nichtssagenden Beschreibungen. Auch das Internet schweigt sich aus.
Der Akku ist fest verbaut, was vermutlich die Lebensdauer begrenzt.
“Bei Dem Preis kann das ja nix werden”, dachte ich. Bestellte mir noch einen ibasso & einen Cowon (bin absoluter Cowon-Fan) zum Vergleichen.
Ich kann’s bis heute kaum glauben, aber der iRulu gewinnt um Lngen & stellt 3x so teure Player in den Schatten: Bluetooth absolut stabil, keine Aussetzer, superschnelle Musikerkennung, handlich & ewige Akkuausdauer & Toppklang.

Haptik: Tadellos. Die Tasten sind nicht zu schwammig, sondern man mu richtig drcken und knnen somit nicht aus Versehen bettigt werden.
Die Anordnung ist einfach und logisch, das Whlrad frht sicher durch das bersichtliche Men. Das Display ist fast schon in HD Qualitt.
Die Songstruktur ist wie bei allen MP3 Playern einfach klar und bersichtlich.
Der EQ bietet eine tolle Auswahl an Sound, also auch basslastiger Rocksound. Allerdings mu man hier die Einstellung “Pop” whlen.
Das Leichtmetallgehuse ist sehr hochwertig, dafr einen Extrapunkt.
Ich habe eine 64GB Karte verbaut und meine Songs in einem separaten Tag Editor im Vorfeld editiert.
Alles in allem : Top Gert Preis ist dazu im Vergleich gnstig: klare Empfehlung = 5 Sterne
Man kann sich aber auch per Tasten gut durch die Mens bewegen. Das man erst das Display aktivieren muss, um z.BSP. whrend der Wiedergabe die Lautstrke anzupassen, oder auf den nchsten Titel zu springen, is nervig, aber machbar.
Man drckt halt vorher den Power-Knopf, das geht auch blind in der Jackentasche.
Der Klang ber Kopfhrer ist fr meinen Geschmack sehr gut, keinesfalls schlechter als mein frherer Cowon D2, oder Sony MP3/MD Player.
An der Anlage klingt er auch top, allerdings einen richtig guten CD-Player schlgt er nicht.
Ich kann den Player leider nicht mit anderen Hi-Res-Playern vergleichen.
Ich selbst habe auch gar nicht so viele Hi-Res Musikfiles in meiner Sammlung. Das war mir aber erst jetzt aufgefallen 🙂
Alles in Allem sehr schnes Gert ohne gro Schnick-Schnack.
Das Gert (iRulu F20) ist fr diesen Preis unschlagbar. Hier stimmt die Qualitt und die Leistung.
Der Klang ist, in Verbindung mit einem guten Kopfhrer, hervorragend. Top ist auch die Mglichkeit das Gert als DAC zu verwenden. Das steigert den Klang des PC’s oder Tablet’s usw. immens. Hinzu kommt die Mglichkeit der Speichererweiterung. Bis hier wirklich TOP. Was mich nicht so glcklich an diesem Gert macht, ist die Menfhrung und die sehr kleine Schrift im Display. Titel und Interpreten lassen sich schlecht ablesen. Wer gute Augen hat und wert auf guten Klang legt, kann hier ruhig zuschlagen. Fr diesen Preis bekommt man viel geboten.
Ich habe ihn ausgepackt, die Speicherkarte aus dem alten Spieler auf die neue, grere Karte, berspielt – und jetzt spielt er. Aber wie!
Zunchst mal zum ueren Auftritt: Er ist nicht ganz leicht, das Gehuse macht einen sehr soliden Eindruck, das Scrollrad funktioniert perfekt, die Bedienung ist total einfach, und es macht ihm auch berhaupt nichts aus, dass da jetzt ein paar hundert “CDs” abgelegt sind. Man scrollt sich einfach durch, rauf und runter, im Album und aus dem auch wieder raus.
Ich kann nicht nachvollziehen, warum manche Leute da offenbar Probleme hatten. Der Player spielt alle Arten von Dateien, also auch die hochwertigen FLACs. Und die klingen zumindest gleichwertig, wenn nicht noch einen Tick besser. Aber das ist wohl der Glaube an das Gute und Neue. Ich bin jedenfalls total begeistert und mchte mir alles noch mal genau anhren.
Jetzt hoffe ich mal, dass der Player lange hlt, es ist eine groe Freude!
After comparing reviews on several models available on Amazon, I settled on the IRULU.
Inevitably, it will be compared to the iPod. Physically, it’s about the same size. A tad shorter and narrower and slightly thicker. Its dimensions make it fit in my hand easier. Ports for line out, earphones and power/computer connection are all on the lower end. Makes it convenient. The display screen is not quite as easy to read as iPod. Even at the largest size, the letters may be a bit small. If you need glasses for reading, you may need them for this. As for probably the most important feature, the sound quality can best be discribed as phenomenal. Far superior to the iPod. I can hear nuances and sound effects on speakers that I couldn’t even hear with head phones with iPod. I do not use a high tech sound system, just run of the mill vehicle stereo, moderately priced earbuds and compact speakers. I can imagine how great it sounds piped through a sophisticated home entertainment set up. As opposed to iPod’s disc drive storage, IRULU features a micro SD data storage. It has no built in storage. Read the specifications on the ad for capacity etc, but it’s impressive and more then capable of handling my library of nearly 9000 titles.
The blue tooth feature was another deciding factor. I’ve only recently started using that method even though I have had a smart phone for several years. I know it sounds trite, but I do enjoy the convinence of wireless speakers.
On the downside, the controls are much more complicated and not as simple and convenient as iPod.
Apples greatest creation was the touch wheel control. This item has an array of buttons which must be pressed rather firmly. I’m concerned about how long they will last. One more thumbs up, instead of the fragile, hard to replace multi pin cord of the iPod, IRULU uses a standard USB cable.
I’m enjoying my IRULU and glad I bought it. It a fine price too. Time will tell if it was a good buy.
The playlist creation is clunky and annoying. There’s not a lot of information on a lot of the features. I’m still not sure what “play model” means. (It’s some option I can change with the M button.) The constant needing to press the power button to change songs in the car is also annoying (I have to use an audio jack in the car. My car doesn’t support the USB.) I guess the screen shutoff saves battery, but it’s still annoying.
The output audio jack is the saving grace of this thing. I have concerns the rotator ring will crap out on me in a couple of years. Its cheap feel doesn’t instill confidence.
More than anything though, I like being able to play song files other than Mp3 and I don’t have to use Itunes. Adding songs is SO much easier, I can do it straight from my music library, and it plays through folders which is pretty damn cool. And I can attach it to my audio receiver with an audio jack. That’s wonderful. My receiver doesn’t have bluetooth or USB, so it’s been getting less use since everything requires those now, but this doesn’t. And with the DAC mode, I can connect it to my computer. I have my computer audio playing through my floor speakers, something I’ve never been able to do due to my old audio receiver. It’s wonderful.
And customer service is responsive. So if you have any questions, hit them up. Unfortunately, due to the sub-par manual, you may have to, but good customer service goes a long way, especially when attached to an easy-to-use hifi player that’s (mostly) intuitive, doubles as a DAC, and plays lossless audio for only around $100? Value. Is. Golden.
I have my concerns, no doubt, but I can’t argue what an absurdly good deal this is. It’s opened up my whole audio setup in office, car, and home. For $100. A new audio receiver is $300. And dammit all if I have to keep using my Iphone and Itunes to listen to music in my car. And not being bound to headphones anymore when working? Plz. This thing will do everything you want it to. The drawbacks are more quality-of-life fixes with the exception of the rotator ring. No idea when/if that’ll go, but it seems fine now. Worst-case scenario, it just gets retired into becoming a permanent DAC which still isn’t much of a loss. Definitely worth the minor annoyances imo. Hifi on a budget. I’m on-board.
Lossless Music klingt so wie sie klingen soll. Voll und satt kommt der Sound daher.
Selbst mp3 Files habe ich selten so gut aufgelst gehrt. Das ist schon erstaunlich fr den Tarif.
Der Equalizer hingegen ist eher durchschnittlich. Einmal aktiviert, klingt der Player pltzlich eher dumpf als brilliant. Und vor allem auch deutlich leiser! Das verwundert dann doch. Schaltet man ihn aus, ist es als wrde sich pltzlich ein Vorgang heben. Die vorinstallierten Presets unterscheiden sich dann auch eher marginal. Alles irgendwie hnlich schlimm.
Natrlich gibt es auch ein manuell einstellbares Setup. Und selbst da, wenn man alle Regler auf 0 stehen hat, ertnt der Klang dumpf und unausgewogen.
Das Display ist im Schatten, oder in geschlossenen Rumen, tadellos.
Bei voller Sonneneinstrahlung ist es jedoch viel zu schwach. Da wird die Titelauswahl eher zum Ratespiel.
Die angezeigten Informationen, welche durchaus vielfltig sind, sind dann auch viel zu klein dargestellt. Das geht besser.
Das Design ist definitiv Geschmackssache. Das muss jeder fr sich selbst entscheiden. Ich htte den goldenen Ring am Einschaltknopf z.B. nicht gebraucht. Sei’s drum.
Die Bedienung ist absolut in Ordnung. Zwar habe ich auch hier ein paar Kritikpunkte. Das Drehrad ist eher schwergngig und somit eigentlich nur mit zwei Fingern gut zu bedienen. Mit dem Daumen allein navigiert man schnell an seinem Ziel vorbei, weil man entweder zu wenig Kraft aufbringt, oder eben zu viel.
Und was mir unbegreiflich ist, ist dass die Lautstrke-Knpfe bei ausgeschaltetem Display auer Funktion sind. Will man also die Lautstrke ndern, dann heit es immer erst Display aktivieren, bevor irgendwas eingestellt werden kann. Fr mich nicht wirklich nachvollziehbar. Das Gert muss also immer aus der Tasche geholt werden.
Der Druckwiderstand der Tasten ist so gro, dass dieses “Feature” nicht notwendig gewesen wre.
Zum Lieferumfang gehrt brigens zwar ein normales Micro-USB Kabel in eher durchschnittlicher Qualitt, wie es in jedem Haushalt mittlerweile zu Hauf vorkommen sollte. Jedoch kein Ladegert!
So Konsequent, wie man beim Sound ist, ist man leider nicht beim Lieferumfang.
Da htte es nun wirklich kein Kabel gebraucht. Oder eben Beides.
Alles in allem dennoch 4 Sterne, da der Klang, und das ist fr mich das Hauptkriterium, wirklich beeindruckend ist, so lange man die Finger vom Equalizer lsst.
Diese Rezension bezieht sich auf die Standard-Firmware bei der Auslieferung. Werde mich bei Zeiten um ein mgliches Update kmmern und dann die Kritikpunkte unter Umstnden neu bewerten, sollte sich an den bemngelten Punkten was gendert haben.
Heute zum ersten Mal via Y-Kabel mit der Anlage verbunden und bis ber 2000 kb/s. JARRE etc. gehrt. 99 ziehen CD-Player bis 2500 gnadenlos aus. UNFASSBAR
