It’s bigger than the average iron, so one needs a flat surface to rest it on when ironing and storing. I don’t recommend using the ironing board as the device is rather heavy. Transporting it is easy as others have said. This particular model does have a “decalc” collection chamber that can be emptied of the hard UK minerals in the water, so one doesn’t have to bother with buying distilled water.
It’s efficient and has a really high-powered steam component. One can hang clothes and steam them on a hanger as well, which is great so you don’t have to buy a separate steamer. (Just don’t have your hair freshly dried or flat-ironed, as there is an immense amount of steam)!
Only reason I gave this a 4-star review because as in the photo above, although clothing is flat, there are some Visible wrinkles left in the material. It would have otherwise been a 5-star review.
I love this iron it’s one of the best I have had would recommend very highly would definitely buy another one if this ever breaks its not cheap but worth i
Seems like a great iron, I’m using it to iron bedding for our continuous turnover at our holiday cottage and it makes the job a lot easier than a conventional iron, having a large easy to fill water tank.
We’re never going back to a normal iron, This steam generator iron is so easy to use and clean, it has two settings normal and eco, it recommends tap water so no more looking for distilled water.
Amazed after ordering a polti which arrived faulty I was hesitant about trying another but this is an amazing iron . Just whizzed through this pile in minutes . Definitely recommend ! The more expensive aren’t always the best great value too .thanks to other reviews this was my choice .
We went by the recommendation of Amazon and found this was in fact the best and they were proved so right , the machine is excellent at the moment and long may it stay that way. My wife says it is a delight to use and thoroughly enjoys using and doing the ironing now, which was the aim of the purchase in the first place.

I love this I hate ironing breaks my back but this iron is amazing so fast to get through a huge pile as the amount of steam it pushes out the creases in seconds I can go from a nylon blouse to a pair of jeans my last iron was a Philips steam generator and I thought nothing could top that but this one has only suggestion I have is have a towel under your ironing board because your floor gets wet with the amount of steam this hoys out plus make sure your ironing board has vents gaps underneath the cover and wipe it down after using the iron as mine is soaked after use but I’m not complaining as it’s definitely a must for fast ironing and awful creases it sails through a pile and tank is big enough that you don’t need to top it up half way through honestly if like me ironing is a pain in the bum and you hate it get this it’s lightweight fast and brillia
The fact that there is one single mode makes it perfect for those who delegate ironing but want to avoid the drama of having burnt fabric. This iron works perfectly and makes ironing a quick and easy job.
My husband is retired army and not only does more of his stuff need ironing, but he also doesn’t mind doing mine! I do iron occasionally but he’s better at it.
We have tried many steam irons over the years, many of them made by Tefal. This is the best yet.
When heating up, blue lights and the chosen mode on the control panel flash blue. The boiler is exceptionally fast to heat up and maintains the water heat very well. the tank in the base is a roomy 1.8-litre capacity and without the need to bear the weight of the water that a standard steam iron requires, the iron is much lighter. Removing the tank is not intuitive without reading the user guide. Simple put your fingers into the cup at the front of the tank and pull forwards to release. You can take the tank to the kitchen sink to fill it and then replace it by pushing it back into the base unit. The soleplate is smooth and easy to use (a long-time favourite feature of Tefal irons) and drips onto the clothing you are ironing is a thing of the past.
You don’t need to fiddle with the settings either. It provides a steady steam output when you press the steam button once with an exceptionally good boost for longer when needed at the triple press of the steam button. Ironing doesn’t feel nearly such a chore for either of us, even me! There is a choice between Normal mode and Eco. The user guide is reasonably clear. Both of us tend to use normal mode. It auto switches off after about 8 minutes.
For a continued burst of steam, press the steam button three times in quick succession. You can also steam iron vertically with items hug up (never with a person nearby though).
If you go through the decalcification process, make sure that the unit has been switched off for a long time. The user guide states 2 hours!
For 229 at the time of writing, you get exceptionally good value, in my opinion, and I think this will last us a long time.
My wife is really not a big fan of ironing, so it’s a once a week job with something on the telly to distract, so anything that makes her life easier is a bonus.
Very easy to set up and use and because it holds no stopping to refill.
She would have preferred the lead to the iron was a bit longer as she used to refresh the curtains and this one doesn’t reach as well as her last iron and cord storage is a bit more of a bind.
Other than that, it does glide through a pile of ironing quite quickly and limits her pain.
Honest admission: I don’t iron a lot…in fact our whole family don’t iron a lot, just not enough time for everything. Regardless of that I love this iron. It makes the ironing process a breeze, a child could do it. I like that the iron itself is lightweight and compact, that’s great but it has the downside that it is permanently connected to a water tank/steamer through a 1.6m cable. You will need a large ironing board to place the water tank as the cable is shorth-ish and may not reach all the way once put on the floor. I guess the short cable is due to health and safety to prevent trips. The iron looks really good and is well put together I reckon you can get a good few years of use from it depending how well you look after your things and how much you use it. The steam produced is really the strongest I have ever seen but again, I’m not the ironing expert. But it removed creases without any effort. The vertical steaming is a great thing, you can refresh your wardrobe quickly or remove creases you noticed after hanging your clothes. There is a handy scale remover on the side but mine haven’t accumulated in any in the testing period, so can’t comment on how well it works. Overall I think this is a great iron especially for large families with lot of ironing to do I can see how this can save you time on the whole thing…once you figured out the placement that is. For others…it could very well be an overkill to be honest but the price reflects this and I guess if you are reading this reviews you already identified the need for an iron like this. Easily recommended.
I received this item from the Amazon Vine Program.
The item arrived in a big box and much heavier than I thought. But it was well packed and presented as expected coming from a known brand. I have used several Tefal products (mostly pans) so I am excited to try this iron.
I’ve never used a steam iron priced at 259 (price at the time of review). A bit shocking to be honest at first but after using it I am convinced that it’s worth the money!
It is easy to use and heats up quickly too. Unlike conventional iron this steam iron only has 2 modes – eco and normal. The tank is easy to remove and to refill. It has a large capacity and can contain up to 1.8 L of water. It also has a limescale collector on the side.
The iron has a little bit of weight so there is no need to press down on the garment to smoothen creases.
I love that I can use it vertically to quickly smoothen clothes that were already ironed and got creases after hanging them in the wardrobe. It can also be used to sanitise clothes, curtains etc using it’s steam.
It looks solid and well made which is already an expectation for me given the brand name.
Overall I have to say I am really impressed. This is by far the best iron I have used.
There is no getting away from the fact that this is an expensive iron. There is also no getting away from the fact that you are definitely getting what you pay for.
First of all it’s a very tidy package with all the cords and cables neatly concealing within the base unit. The base unit itself is very well put together with a water tank that’s easy to remove and fill. The water tank itself has a really high capacity and my interest in ironing has always long passed before it comes close to being empty. The clip that keeps the iron attached to the base is also a nice addition.
The iron itself is heavy enough without being too heavy and it has a nice sharp point which is great for getting into those more awkward creases. Speaking of awkward creases, the ability to use the iron for vertical steaming is superb for taking those last minute creases out of especially delicate fabrics.
The little stick for gathering limescale is also a nice little feature.
Although I am not the main person to iron clothing at my house I do understand the frustration of poorly made steam iron. Our iron turn over rate is around 4 years and we have been getting the mid range branded steam iron all the time and usually around the 40-50 mark.
The GV9230 create jet of steam like no others, it will penetrate your jeans easily, and the iron cover and through the metal mesh. It will make ironing clothing more efficient as you can just do one pass instead of 4,5,6,7….. just make sure you wipe off the condensation from the metal grid under your cover when finish to avoid rust.
What is making the winkles in the clothing disappear is the steam and not heat, unlike traditional iron where it is so hot it will burn if left in one spot, the GV9230 avoid the high heat but use jet of steam instead. It will not damage your dedicate material and it is best for keeping your expensive favorite garment as new. The steam is also the best way to disinfect any clothing, just steam away the virus, bacteria, dust mite…
I absolutely hate scale built up in iron, when ironing black clothing I often not use steam or don’t dare to shake the iron too much incase the scale falls out of the iron on the the clothing. With the Tefal it is a worry of the past as the lime scale will now be collected at the base and it can be removed by taking out the long metal catcher. What comes out of the iron is just steam and nothing else.
The only negative I have is the size of the base, I fully understand that it will take a big tank of water to generate the steam but you will have to find a home for the base. Some of the cheaper ironing board is not designed for the heavy base, the cable is long enough for the base to be sat on the floor if you lower the ironing board but it does kills the joy with the cable constantly tugging from under the board.
Also the price is around 4 times of a normal steam iron, if it last for more than 8 years I will say it is good value for money but only time will tell. I will update this review in due course. For now, this is the best iron ever for us.
This Steam Iron is fantastic and makes getting creases out so easy.
It comes in quite a large box and you think it’s going to be huge but it’s actually no bigger than my 10 year old one I got it to replace, the base unit is much the same size but with so many new features to make everything easier and the iron handle is a joy to use.
The base to iron cord is actually 10cm longer than my previous one so up from 1.5m to 1.6m so that’s nice but the power cable to base is a little on the short side if you are not ironing near a plug socket. Plus, the base power cord really needs some sort of cable management to hide it away in the base, a wraparound or retractable cable here would have been much better. The main base to iron cord does tuck away but with the thickness of the cable and the way it goes in the gap at the bottom it’s a bit of a faff.
The base is not too heavy without water and I love that this one has a removeable water tank (my old one was a fill from a cup job) and this makes it easy to clean and much easy to use.
The iron is a beautiful weight, nice and light compared to my old one but still got enough weight to push the creases out. All the controls are easy to understand and use plus the clip to hold the iron onto the base is a nice touch, it looks thin and you worry it might break but so far has been strong and works very well. I would not want to swing it around too much fully loaded with water though. It also makes a great safety feature if you have kids around that might accidentally pull the cord and the iron part could come off the base, so I like that I can just flip to clip over to secure it.
Overall, a very good, nice, and quiet steam iron with great features and just had a price drop to 236.19 so good value for money.

I have no idea how these irons work, but they are brilliant. Please note that there are multiple models on this page and i received the GV9230 Iron in Black and Burgandy.
I am of an age where i used a black plate iron and that thing burnt so many of my clothes it was unreal. The technology behind these irons blows my mind, i have no idea how you can go from denim to cotton to silk without changing the settings. I was quite apprehensive about using it on my silk blouse but it went over it like butter.
The tank is easy to fill up, and holds a lot of water at 1.8 Litres and the power cord is 1.6m.

I’ve long been a convert to the joys of a steam generator iron. I’m one of the few who enjoy ironing, and love the ease of these devices. I’ve previously used Phillips models, so this is my first experience of a Tefal version. As with all these devices, the down-side is the size. Ideally you need a specialist ironing board, which is worth the investment if you have a large family to iron for. And storage can be a problem if you have limited house space.
Anyway, on to the device. This Tefal feels like it is very well made. Instructions are clear, simple and I had no issues with filling the reservoir. Pressure is excellent, and makes light work of the thickest denim. I found the iron light, comfortable to hold and it glides very smoothly. I also think it looks very elegant in its burgundy and black colour scheme.
Overall, then, it’s every bit as good as the Phillips. I remain a convert. Whether you enjoy ironing or not, if you have a large pile of clothes to iron at the end of the week, you’ll find this to be a really worthwhile investment.
I think given the price of this iron, it is a large financial investment to make, you really need to be doing a lot of ironing to think of buying one.
There are many plus points –
You can do a lot of ironing without having to constantly refill the water chamber.
Because the water chamber is separate from the iron, the iron is lightweight to use compared to a standard one.
You can use it to iron cloths hung up and not just on an ironing board, such as curtains, because of the length of the cable from the main unit.
There is a space under the main unit to store the cable that attached it to the iron.
When steaming it produces a large amount of steam and the cloths look great after ironing.
It is easy to carry around. Once the iron is clipped back in place, you use this handle to move the unit about and it feels secure.
But like any product it is not perfect –
I maybe using it wrong, but you have to keep your finger on the steam button or it just acts like a hot iron and produced no steam?
It is big and not easy to store away out of sight. So if you don’t like your iron on show, you will need a cupboard to put it in.
Be careful when emptying, let the water cool down first.
Overall very happy with it currently and I think you need to give yourself time to get used to it, as it is different to a normal iron.
The iron looks very nice, holds plenty of water, produces a lot of steam and glides nicely over the fabrics. I also really like the fact there are no fabric settings, so yo don’t have to keep3 changing temperature as you iron different items. I also liked the fully removable water tank, although I do think it’s a bit awkward to remove easily, especially if you have a hot iron stood on the stand, which is just where you want to put your hand to get a proper grip.
Whilst the iron looks very nice, and has a built in foot so yo have the option of putting it on the water tank or standing it on end whilst ironing, there are clearly some design issues they haven’t given much thought to. There is a channel around the base of the machine to store the thick cord (between tank and iron), but the cord sticks out past the end of the channel, giving a nice thick loop of hose to get caught on things, or hooked and have the whole thing accidentally pulled out/off wherever it is stored. There is no storage for the power cable, so that’s either just flung in around the machine, or has to bee wrapped around the handle in some way for convenient storage.
The handle is also an issue, it’s nice and comfortable when in use, but once the iron is locked onto the base the iron becomes the carry handle. However, the handle isn’t that big, so it’s difficult to carry the whole unit without putting all the weight on the steam trigger, which clearly won’t do it any good.
The instructions are ok, they do a reasonable job of explaining how to fill and empty the iron as well as the de-scaling procedure. However, the iron has two settings, normal and eco, but beyond telling you how to set which ever one you want, the instructions don’t actually tell you what the two settings are for or what the difference is between them. I thought it might have been temperature or amount of steam produced, but both options seem to take the same time to heat up and, visually, the amount of steam looks to be exactly the same. If there is a difference it’s not enough to be visible to the naked eye.
It’s also a bit difficult to get out of the box due to the way they have chosen to pack it, in my case not helped by the fact the entire thing had been packed into the box upside down.
However, on the whole, as a steam iron it seems to work really well. How sturdy it is and how long it lasts remains to be seen, although I have to mention it does feel more flimsy over all than the Tefal Steam generating iron I got several years ago.
I am very impressed with this Tefal steam generator. It is a large size and it does a cracking job.
I would not say this is a lightweight machine, it is quite a size when it is held or moved as one unit. There are clips that keep the iron in place for moving, it allows you to use the iron handle as a handle for the whole unit, although I still keep one hand underneath.
The iron has a good-sized water reservoir, it holds the same amount as my kitchen kettle. The reservoir is easy to slide out, fill and put back in place. The machine doesn’t take too long to get up to the temperature you set it to or for the steam to start to generate.
There is a good length to both the electric cable that powers the machine and also the cable from the machine to the iron. It means I can easily have the base unit sat on the worktop and use the iron rest on the ironing board to rest the iron on. Or alternatively, you can use the base of the generator.
This is an easy machine to set up, it is easy to use and select the temperature or steam controls. There is a collector on the base for calcium if you live in a hard water area, I am not going to know if this works as I live in a soft water area and get no calcium build-up at all.
The power of the steam is great, I am able to steam clothing on a hanger or power steam through clothing on a board. This is a great machine and it is a dream to use and I do iron a lot.
It is an expensive machine, but it is a very good one. It is a quality appliance that has a well-known and respected name and is a brand I trust. A fabulous and well-designed machine that powers through the ironing and I would definitely recommend it.
Ironing simplified. I have never bought a high pressure steam iron so this is my first experience and I am absolutely delighted with it.
It is so easy to use as there are no settings to fiddle with for each fabric. All you have to do is fill the water reservoir from tap plug it in and the only setting on it is set on normal which means it is automatically adjusting according to material. Temperature control is excellent and I do not need to worry about burning a fabric with incorrect settings ever.
It has a immense pleasure of steam and you can virtually take the creases out without even touching it with the sole plate. Iron is very very light weight so you can go through a pile of clothes without ever feeling a strain on your arms or wrist.
Black and Burgundy colour really looks stylish and gorgeous. Tefal GV9230 High Pressure Steam Generator Iron is 2600 W but like I said it is not the soleplate that is cutting the ironing time in half it is the amount of steam pressure it produces the most efficient professional ironing experience.
Pro Express feature on this iron is a revolutionary protective system as you can go from the heaviest denim to nylon to cotton without changing any settings or worrying about delicate fabric being damaged. You can hang a delicate dress or mens suit on a hanger and take out creases with powerful steam pressure from this iron.
I am absolutely converted to new era of ironing with this innovative and efficient ironing machine that takes chore out of ironing. It makes you think why I never tried this system before.
5 stars from my wife and I. We are delighted with it and would highly recommend this for every household.
I have a small hand steamer that I use for ‘ironing’ and it is much more efficient than traditional ironing.
Now I have this high powered steam iron from Tefal ( proper well known brand-made in France ), is a whole new level for me. I can honestly recommend steaming rather than ironing as it is quicker and easier.
This amazing steam iron cut ironing time dramatically. I hang my items or hold them up over the ironing board and just wave the steamer over them and the creases just disappear. Really, no joke. Even with this high pressure steam iron you don’t need to touch your clothes so no more ironing in creases or fighting with fancy gathers. You can still use it as a normal iron if you need trouser creases etc. No changing temperatures when steaming delicates, one temp does all.
It has some nice features on it, long lead to access your hanging clothes, a lock to keep the iron in place when moving it from room to room. Descaling feature means you use can tap water.
This steam generator iron is not for the faint-hearted, it is expensive, to say the least. But it does pack a punch. The stream generated hisses out with power and vigour. It makes short work of crease and has shortened my ironing time by a considerable amount. You can even use it to steam out the crease on a dress while it is still in its hanger.
The only real problem is the huge reservoir, which is probably a given as it needs to hold water to generate the huge amount of steam. There’s also a nifty feature that collects limescale. The limescale collector collects up to 10 times more scale particles for long-lasting steam performance.
Overall this is an expensive iron that will do the work that it is intended but at a considerable price.
It is just great. Easy to use and the pipes and wires tuck away and the iron locks onto the base so it is easier than my previous iron to store and carry.
There is a very similar model at Curry’s that is nearly twice the price.
Great iron instant steam from generator which seems to be an issue on the cheaper irons but this one is great. Long lead too so it just breezes through a pile of ironing would definitely recommend
As a loyal Amazon customer, I bought this iron. I showed it to my housemate and she liked it too so she ordered one. To my surprise her iron was a newer model than mine. This really annoyed me as they obviously sent me the older model to get rid of it. The iron itself works very well.
Our first Tefal steam gen 15 years ago was a similar spec, when it eventually wore out we bought a cheaper model with half the steam pressure which was a big mistake. This one is great.
Brilliant iron, works through my ironing pile very quickly. The only problem I found was the lead is quite short, so we had to use an extension lead to reach the socket.
Otherwise I would definitely recommend.
Mainly liked it, maybe a tiny bit awkward to seat on the base, but a dream to use when ironing. Much quicker than my old one.
I would thoroughly recommend the seller.
Bought as a replacement, lovely iron and one of the features is that it turns itself off if it’s not being used. Great for me as I answer the phone and walk away when I’m ironing.

Lovely colour, Lovely and light to iron with, easy to use. Would definitely recommend.

Overall I think this is a fantastic product.
I found this iron a lot lighter than Tefals previous model. Competitively price too.

The following info is from the manufacturers website:

Really pleased with this iron it does make a few noises when water moves from the tank to make steam but apart from that great iro
Great iron instant steam from generator which seems to be an issue on the cheaper irons but this one is great. Long lead too so it just breezes through a pile of ironing would definitely recommend
High pressure steam which penetrate deep into number of layer so big items fold them in layers and can be easily ironed
Iron itself is very ligh
Very powerful. Makes ironing so easy and quick. Well worth the money.
Fantastic extra steam just b careful very hot light weight iron I have weakness in my hands I do not struggle Very worth the money
As a loyal Amazon customer, I bought this iron. I showed it to my housemate and she liked it too so she ordered one. To my surprise her iron was a newer model than mine. This really annoyed me as they obviously sent me the older model to get rid of it. The iron itself works very well.
This iron is fantastic, lots of steam that cuts right down on ironing time and smooths the creases away. Large capacity for water is helpful
Definitely a good buy you can wizz through the ironing in no time at all . This is the second tefal generator iron I have bought.
super happy about this thing. It easily irons my cotton and linen shirts as well as my wife’s synthetic dresses.
Our first Tefal steam gen 15 years ago was a similar spec, when it eventually wore out we bought a cheaper model with half the steam pressure which was a big mistake. This one is great.
Output of steam is the best on the market. Very light to use. One problem is storage of supply cable and steam pipe to iron is poor.
Lovely iron – light to use and makes ironing a quick and easy thing to do – almost makes it enjoyable!!
Got it on Prime Day for a good price to replace a Bosch steam generator iron.
So far working well, let’s hope it lasts.
steamer works very well , the only gripe I have is that the water storage is difficult to fit onto iro
Bought as a replacement, lovely iron and one of the features is that it turns itself off if it’s not being used. Great for me as I answer the phone and walk away when I’m ironing.
