Do I need to turn off the grill and let it cool to start a second batch of cooking?
No, you do not have to switch off the grill first. When the lights flash again, choose the mode that you want. The preheating phase should be a lot quicker than the first time as the plates will already be hot.
How do I clean my grill?
Wait 45 minutes for the device to cool. To clean the grill and grill components, use a cloth soaked in hot water. Do not immerse the grill in water or use abrasive cleaning products.
Can I use the frozen food setting when cooking in the manual mode?
No – the cooking sensors are not active in manual mode

How fantastic is this grill!! I’ve used the alternative retired boxer promoted grills and they were OK but I always used to find I’d over or under cook stuff in them.
This grill with its smart timing on the basis of thickness and programs is brilliant. My previous grill was almost never used but this one seems to be used several times a week now.
Only possible thing I can see coming up is the dishwasher life expectancy of the grill plates. This will be an expensive folly if they start to go funny after six months.
Cheese tends to run down from the bottom grill due to considerable slope of the bottom grill plate. The plates are advertised as non-stick, but it things usually tends to stick on them.
I wanted to have that grill for quite a while and finally I did get, I cant say how happy I’m fish is cooked to just they way I like it. Have tried vegetables and it is just amazing, healthy food can be tasty and well cooked, would highly recommend that grill to anyone with no doubts
I’ve had one of these before and it lasted about 5 year before the auto sensing device stopped working, although this did not stop me from using it in manual mode. The sensing device gauges the thickness of various foods e.g. steak, bacon, sausages etc and beeps when it detects when they are cooked rare, medium or well done. The beeps sound at each stage so you know when to stop cooking when your preferred state of cooking is reached. You can still cook without the sensing device by selecting your preferred cooking state.
I am giving it a top rating in spite of the fault that developed, as my previous one was used a lot, including abroad in our caravan, so I think 5 years use was about right.
I have grilled everything since owning it’s just so easy switch it on select a function and that’s it beeps at you when you need to add the raw food and beeps again at the different levels of cooked. Having the removable plates means I now don’t worry about marinaded chicken making a mess. Just take the plates out and soak in the sink. Easy!
To be fair it does not cook the number of portions in one go that it says – come on Tefal be honest, well all adverts be honest.
THAT SAID – I think this is a wonderful appliance. Geoge Foreman and Panini grill passed on to a greatful user as this appliance does all that and more.. and more.. and more..
Easy to use – easy to clean with in the main a quick wipe down – the plates come off for a soak if you make such a mess – any melted to burnt cheese on the grill tastes fantastic by the way – the guides are easy to understand and to be able to cook steaks to your prefered liking rare to well done is easy – it defrosts – it cooks veg.. and more.
Well worth the money and highly recommended.
Great grill! I had a George Foreman years ago, about 15, and it was such a pain to clean kinda like a toasty press. I’ve cooked veg, steak, pork, chicken, sausages, and toasties on the grill part and I must say my steaks come out like a steak should. I’ve even taken chops out from the freezer, put them on the grill with the frozen setting a they come out perfectly. Ive cooked cheese and ham toasties on it also and was impressed. The unit tells you when, with a beep, when your meat is rare, medium rare and so on which has made me a Master of the grill!
I’ve used the pan attachment for eggs and mushrooms which did a good job but I’ll use a skillet for my eggs still. I haven’t yet cooked anything else but when I do ill update my review.
Easy to clean as the grills pop off with a press of a button and can be soaked if needed. The drip tray slides well under the grill which is great and it holds alot.
I would definitely recommend this grill as it’s so versatile my only complaint is a wee bit of grease and juice tends to get under the bottom plate somehow and smoke when I first turn it on but I don’t know if it’s just mine. It doesn’t effect the grill itself but I’m keeping an eye on it to see if I need to return it. I’m still happy with it and I’m glad I made this purchase.
Absolutely love this product. So easy to use, cooks Bacon, sausages, chicken, pork and so much more in less time than a conventional oven. Wonderful temperature controls, cooks food to perfection . Easy to clean after use. Can’t find any faults at all with this product.
Very good, and the programs are really useful. It still requires some attention, though – depending on the thickness of the steak, the “Medium” is a bit overcooked for me. After a couple of stakes one can figure the timing that works best.
As for cleaning, it is really easy to clean the plates and the non stick works like a charm. Not that easy to clean it completely on the back, particularly on the cable that connects both plates and the joints because of the meat juices that splash.
I’m starting to see some discoloration in the plates, though, which are acquiring a brown hue.
For a grill it is great, has some nice features such as indicating when your perfect steak is ready. Also very handy for cooking burgers and sausages, just put them in and forget about them until ready.
The plates are removable and slide into the dishwasher easily. Although most of the spill just wipes off easily, even why cold and dried on.
Waited a few months to review to ensure it was accurate. It’s been brilliant, the first month or so I think I used it every other day – novelty now worn off but fantastic for lunches at home in a rush (chicken wrap etc) and also for breakfasts, whack the sausages/bacon on – and just leave, no moving around. Very handy to have in the kitchen. So easy to wash as well which is usually the downfall of these things but no excuses that this shouldn’t sparkle after each time. Easy to wash grill in sink or in dishwasher (removable plates). Great purchase despite the novelty.
Just succulent deliciously healthy grilled to perfection meat, fish and vegetables without mess, smoke and pans to clean. Once cooled the plates remove easily for cleaning. The bottom plate has raised nodules to keep the food from sliding off the slippery non-stick surface. Supplied with lots of useful tips and cooking guides but quite honestly it is easy to use and most programmes are self-explanatory. Audible signals are clear and the lights indicating ‘doneness’ are bright. The proof is in the pudding though. Put all this technology to one side and you still need amazing food and that is exactly what this grill delivers. Professional results every time! I just wish I knew about these years ago!
I love my OptiGrill… it’s easy to clean and cooks meat and poultry perfectly. Just set it, leave it and wait for the ringer to go off… you can heave a perfectly cooked lunch or dinner in 20 min tops. Especially if you are looking to eat clean, no butter or oils needed, this baby leaves no residue behind. I highly recommend this product. It’s an everyday kitchen must have. Thank you.
We need to practice a little more, the pre set cooking times appear to under cook items. The instructions could be better even with simple things like toasted sandwiches. All in all it does it’s job and is very simple to clean/ use
I have used this for steak, fish, veg, chicken, lamb, and macaroni cheese (with the baking tray facility) this grill is fantastic and very easy to use. I pop it under my hob extractor fan as it can smoke up depending on what you grill but it’s all part of the fun. My partner has one complaint with the steak in that the juices run down into the drip tray. He likes the juices to remain in the steak. For me this is not a problem but I know some rare steak lovers who would wince at this. I have managed to grill fish a few times – this has turned out extremely well. The thickness calculation feature is very well designed and works on all settings. Grill plates are perfect size for cooking for 2 ppl. I highly recommend this product.
I like being able to cook a large ribeye steak or a couple of burgers from frozen to well done in about 15 minutes, though I tend to leave them in for an extra few minutes because Tefal’s idea of ‘well done’ is more ‘middle to well done’ for my liking. The plates are removable and are relatively easy to wash, watch out for the nodules on top of the plates to hold the meat on as they can catch your knuckles. It’s about the size of a large family size George Foreman grill; I have it on the top of the hob on an old glass breadboard, so I can do the chips in the oven. Really happy that I bought this.
Our original Optigrill died very suddenly, this replaced it. New improved would be a great description in that it’s got extra temperature control -such as for toasties, is slightly taller and wider, easier to clean (which was a nice surprise) & cooks sausages a little longer. The original cooked sausages but they were a bit pale/ raw coloured when done which was off putting, this one browns them.
The functionality, usability and results of the grill I really cannot fault. It cooks everything perfectly, easy to clean, doesn’t cost a fortune to run and it’s simple to use.
However, all this fun comes with some dull draw backs.
First of all, storage. The thing is huge so finding a spot in the cupboard is impossible so it literally lives in the box under the stairs. With that, the power cable is right at the back rather than tucked inside the leg so even if it did fit under the cupboard, you cannot store it upright without creating wear on the cable.
Second, if you are lucky enough to find a space you can stand it upright for storage and don’t mind a bit of wear to the cable. You will have to wedge it between something as there is no lock for the lid so it tilts open.
Thirdly and this is the most annoying. The cable is only able 50cm long so I am really limited as to where I can use it in my kitchen.
My closest socket to reach is under my cupboards above the work tops and this brings me on to my forth and final issue.
The lid doesn’t hold itself open so when you are trying to open it when on a work top, you can’t use two hands to load/unload the grill.
These aren’t mayor things and in no way effect the perfect performance, just some little bitty gritty things which I’m sure will annoy you over time
Having cooked steaks unsuccessfully on various grills and pans I bought the Tefal Optigrill. It cooks steaks to perfection using the built in timer and temperature control. It takes the hard work and guessing out of the cooking process. I would thoroughly recommend it.
I initially purchased for my son who has a learning disability to enable more independence. Its a little complicated but with practice he’ll get there. I also had a few problems with settings, but after googling I found you sometimes have to rest the settings. This is easily done and I’ve had no problems since. It works as instructed in booklet.
Its a brilliant machine. I’ve never tasted better chicken, pork and steak. Its cooked to your perfection.
I’m so glad I got the one with baking tray as its used nearly as much as grill. I did a spaghetti bologna in the tray. Just put the meat and onions in, heat up, season and add tomatoes. Much easier as I can go to another room without worry of watching over frying pan. I’ve also done fried egg, omlette, pizza and toasties are much better than toasties machine I had. I can use any size shape bread, with any filling and toasted to perfection. There is no limit and much much quicker and safer using this. I love it. Its not been put away yet as used everyday. I’m now looking for an appliance fold down shelf as its quite big and bulky but so pleased I got it. Hopefully my son with start using too.
A great grill. My favourite actually. The plates size means I can cook three cheese toasties simultaneouly which I wasn’t able to do in any other grills we’ve owned. There are loads of different food settings and even then, the temperature can be adjusted. It beeps and stops cooking when the food is ready. I’ve cooked all sorts in it to perfection, veg, bread meat including sausages and more. The bottom plate is tilted so fat runs into a removable drip tray. I find that all my food is cooked evenly. Both the upper and lower non-stick plates are easily removed, cleaned and easily click back into place. We are totally happy with this value for money, quality buy and don’t hesitate recommending it.
Great for people that don’t know how to cook as you literally need no skill at all to work this grill.
Great for when you have no time – out some protein on it, press button and do something else until you hear the beep.
Great to make hit sandwiches with cheese oozing out of them.
All in all its a great piece of machinery. Only downside is when not in use it take up a lot of space.
After few trials you get to know how to work with the OptiGrill and it becomes easy and efficient food preparation. The second Burger was better than the first and I expect it to improve in the future.
To those who want to enjoy good and tasty it’s the right tool at affordable cost.
This grill is absolutely amazing it’s perfect for any kitchen it’s not that big so it won’t take up that much room same sort of size as at George Foreman. The benefits of this grill is unbelievable I have cooked loads of things on it and it just seems to cook them perfect really impressed with this grill highly recommended.
The item was bought as a gift. This grill is a good family size, easy to clean and works well. The only comment made by the recipient was that you must read the instructions as maintaining the heat requires particular attention. Overall once you get to grips with the controls it works well and cooks food as required.
This is one appliance that I am super happy to own. It’s fast, easy to clean, simple to operate with a very fast learning curve. The most exciting feature is the precision of the cooking time and it’s management. Its very fast and saves lot of time in the kitchen. Delivers everything promised by the manufacturer. In the short time I have it I tried to grill potatoes, aubergines, steak, chicken, fish, toasts with 100% success. Recommended it to my children.
Real pleasure to have it. I just love it!!!!!!!
27 December update: So, salmon, sea bream, sausages, steak, bacon – burgers next; all cooked to perfection. Tefal Optigrill thoroughly recommended.
I’ve only cooked filleted chicken thighs so far – but an excellent result. Chicken turned out tender, flavourful and properly cooked through. Also, not nearly as much odour of cooking as ‘normal’ grilling (or certainly frying). Little ‘residue’ from the cooking process and plates/drip tray easily cleaned (definitely less cleaning to do than when using oven or hot plate). Steak, burgers, bacon, sausages and fish on the shopping list today. I’ll post again to let you know how they turned out. Looking forward to great results with toasties and vegetables too.
A very good product – easy to use, provides good results with almost no supervision! My only remark is that as the upper grill presses the product, the upper part of it gets better cooked, so I prefer to turn it after a couple of minutes. And, yes – read the instructions. Especially helpful when cooking separate batches of food.
I live on my own. (Haha. Sorry Tefal).
So it’s great for me cooking fish, steak, or a burger on. The fat drips away and it’s nice and easy to clean.
Equally as good for 2 peoples meals.
(Whatever the advertisement says. I’m not sure about anything more than 2-people).
Although I would buy this again tomorrow. Everything is cooked correctly.
It a great. I was so afraid I ll returning after a couple of days but it worths all the money. It s very easy to use, you can make from chicken to fish , different vegetables and wont be disappointed. My husband who is really hard to please loves it too.
The grill s plates are removable and very easy to wash . Really good buy
Good quality grill, it is a little steep for the price. The big advantage of this grill is the removable grill, just put it in the dishwasher, it’s the main reason i purchased and replaced my George Foreman grill. I really like that the top part of the grill lays flat over the food for even cooking, my previous grill cooked at an angle so the food would be unevenly cooked. I have noticed the setting for cooking steak is a little inconsistent, you would have to play around with the timings but overall a good grill and i would recommend
It’s super easy to use, no need for instruction book. Easy to clip of plates and cleans better than anything I have ever had. The food does get squeezed down and our steak was a bit dry but we got it for lots of great toastie. I know that’s expensive but worth it when I haven’t got to scrub my life away like I did with the sandwich toaster that peels its coating from the first use. Yeah you know who you are!
It’s a great grill for everything but not for steaks.
I tried multiple type of steaks on this one with or without oil / sauce and everything.. they all got hard and dry at the end. If you are cooking more than one steak at the time they have to have nearly the exact thickness as well.
Other than steak its amazing for sandwitches, bacon and the fish is also great in it.
This grill is a brilliant piece of kitchen kit, it has its own built in auto menu and also manual mode. In both modes it has a pre heat which you can add to, from frozen and searing, then lets you know when to add food. In auto it then measures the thickness and gives you a cooking time, which if you want can be overridden. In manual mode you set the temperature and the cooking time. It sears while its cooking anyway but if you like dark searing you use the searing touch button in the warming up section of operation. It cooks to perfection and don’t disappoint. It is so easy to clean the grill plates they clip on and off, released at the touch of a button then washed with warm soapy water and a sponge. Even if you don’t cook, this grill is a doddle to use and I would highly recommend it as the results are amazing
Very happy with this grill. I’ve used for bacon, salmon, steak and burgers so far. Very easy with the pictures and beeps that donate cooking times and takes all guesswork away. Way better than cooking in the oven. The sloping structure also means excess fat is taken away without impairing on taste
I purchased this model as I wanted the snacking & baking tray. In 24 hours I’ve used it three times to cook a pizza, sausage roll & chicken nuggets, breaded mushrooms and chips. It made a wonderful job of all three meals & I’m very pleased with my purchase. Excellent value as it is the same price as the option without the snacking tray, which is 39.99 if purchased separately.
This grill is exceptional. Easy to use. Very easy to clean. Take the plates off and put them in the dishwasher or wash by hand. The automatic cooking of various foods is very good once you get used to how it works. The delivery was swift and the price was good value for money. I like rare steak and it takes longer to heat up than it does to cook the steak. I can thoroughly recommend this grlll.
I mainly use this grill to cook steaks and fish fillets. The colour display and audible dings certainly make it easier to monitor the cooking process than with other grills I have used or even traditional hob cooking. The colour coding is however but a useful guide, not a precision tool. I would like to see a digital temperature display rather than rely on colour changes. The grill plates are easy to clean and the drip tray works well if not perfectly. However, the initial warm-up period is surprisingly slow – about 7 minutes; using a grill tray on a hob would probably have completed the cooking process during that time. But cooking is not only about time saved. This device saves effort and reduces the need for monitoring but it still pays to keep a stopwatch handy. Sadly, steaks don’t pop out like toast!
This grill is good a grill, you can grill a few portions at the same time. It can tell how thick the food is and will then cook and alert you at each stage so that you can decide how well done you want your steak.
It’s also good at making grilled sandwiches. It is big, so you would need to think about where you are going to store this when not in use. Apart from that it works well and have not any complaints regarding the quality of the food.
I have owned the previous version of this product for some time. This new model is a step up in terms of how the user interacts with it. It has a colour screen and it gives a much clearer information as to what it is doing at the time: pre-heating cooking and when the food will be ready.
Like its predecessor, this product is very easy to clean. The two heated plates simply unclip and they can be put straight in the dishwasher.
If you want to make a bacon sandwich or roll, once you put the bacon on after the preheating stage, it only takes about 40 to 50 seconds to cook the bacon on both sides. Lovely!
Works fine but will be using manually for pork as I like it well done. Easy to strip and clean but still smokes a little when cooking but I have it below a small window so does not get to rest of house. Use on auto for steaks as once it’s warmed up it doesn’t take long at all. You can follow it’s progress with the lights and beep and remove at rare, medium or well done. Needs a fare amount of space on worktop and for storage. Comes with instructions and tips for getting the best from your grill.
The auto cooking programmes work well and bacon especially comes out significantly better than the GF grill. Chicken I’d say is a little over done, but if you take it out on Yellow (medium) it’s not too dry. The frozen mode is very cautious and can take ages for things like sausages. I have ended up switching to manual on occasions. The end results are still good though.
Steaks are well cooked and match medium and well done settings but the grill lacks a searing function so the outside of the meat isn’t as brown as some like. Overall cooking is much better than the GF 360.
Cleaning is a breeze, the Teflon used is superb and usually just wipes clean. Even marinated meat doesn’t burn unlike the GF 360 which often needed a good scraping.
Overall this is a great grill, just wish it had a searing function for steaks.
i upgraded to this when my last grill died, this is all singing all dancing and takes a bit of getting used to, but it cooks exceptionally well and is much easier to clean than my last tefal grill, i got the snacking tray with this and have done a pizza and a macoroni cheese so far and they were fabulous, it`s a shame that a separate recipe book didnt come with the snack tray, but overall if your looking to buy a grill i would seriously consider getting one of these
I like steak and have tried other grills, but this is the first one I have purchased that does what it should ie cooks meat quickly and evenly. It is easy to use and easy to clean. After only a few weeks I know it is one of those things that I know would be purchased again should it eventually conk out – as all heating elements do eventually.
I have had at least 7 different health grills over many years, but this beats all of those. The technology is amazing, the cooking result of all meats tried so far, from rare steak to fully cooked homemade sausages. Allowing us to cook homemade burgers as medium rather than well done is a great bonus. Ok, so it’s not cheap, but if you like health grills, then this one is great, with easy to clean removable plates.
It’s not too large, it heats up quickly and it cooks. Faster and less spitting than frying pan or grill, so useful there. Cooking plates remove/replace easily (I expected cast iron, but they are really thin stuff). However, they are well non-stick, so don’t scratch them. Good drip tray, catches the lot. Suggest line it with foil to prevent need for washing.
Whether the appliances idea of done (whether rare, medium or well) is the same as your idea of that is subjective.
What to remember is that once he appliance is heated up, if you lift the top and leave it open too long, the thing switches off! A safety feature no doubt, but can annoy and confuse unless remembered. It has other such foibles too, so read and understand the instructions.
On the whole a very good grill, but some of the automatic settings are too aggressive. A medium/rare steak takes only 3-4 minutes to cook (at most), and 2 chicken breasts about 18 minutes. However in terms of using automatic cooking options for chicken skewers or chicken wings it vastly over-estimates the time required often reflecting 30+ minutes when around 15 cooks them perfectly. So not 100% automatic, but once you work out the idiosyncrasies it’s great…
With the Optigrill, you just pop the plates out and give them a rinse in the sink or stick them in the dishwasher. The included drain tray is also dishwasher proof and does a great job of catching drips so there isn’t anything else to clean!
The grill heats quickly and has cooked all food to perfection so far. Steaks were beautifully seared on the outside and rare on the inside, just as I wanted. Peppers came out nicely charred and delicious. Burgers stayed juicy.
The digital display is foolproof with a countdown to your desired level of doneness and you get a little recipe book included to help you get started.
The defrost and searing functions are very handy to tailor the auto programmes. I was nervous about cooking from frozen but it worked!
I bought this while on offer for 134 and am very pleased I did. It replaces the need for using the grill, sandwich toaster and griddle so has a relatively small kitchen footprint. The only thing missing is the availability of interchangeable plates, I would love to be able to use to make waffles, etc!
The product description is accurate, the grill warms quickly. The plates are very easy to remove and cleaning is usually just a wipe at worst a 5 minute soak.
The audible warnings let you know when a cooking state is reached the colour indicator is a reliable indicator. Temperature control is marked as 4* as Tefal ‘well done’ is a little short of the mark for me!
The manual programme is useful for those who like the choice of cooking time.
Overall a well designed and useful unit. Recommended.
What I love about this machine is how easy it is so clean. The grill pads click off and can be washed…and the drip tray can too. Whereas the rest of the machine can be wiped and stored away. Really simple and really easy/convenient.
It’s functions are clear. You have a button for burgers, sausages, bacon, steak etc etc.. and you can select the temperature accordingly. Brilliant!
However! I get a little confused by the flashing lights that happen with the temperature control. But, I think that is down to me still getting use to the product and not fully reading the Instruction manual.
The only con I have found is how bulky it is. It does take up a fair amount of space if it’s kept in a cupboard. Which ours is. Besides that, I do really like this machine and I’m very happy I picked this brand and model over any of the others.
This is a superb grill
So easy to use and cooks the food exactly how it should,
So simple to use and love the fact you don’t need to stand over it turning and moving the food around.
Just select the mode and juat let it do it’s thing!
Can cook whole meals without the need to even turn the over or hob on to assist!
Wow im impressed (spot on TEFAL)
Absolutely brilliant kitchen gadget. I admit I was a little dubious about justifying this spend on a grill, but i’m so glad a did. I batch cooked treacle cured bacon on it last night and was expecting clean up to be horrendous. I could not have been more wrong. The plates detach so easily and no dirt was left on the machine. Washing the plates was a breeze as everything just slipped off with a cloth. I have also done toasties which with the large optigrill you can do 3 at a time and its very quick. For family cooks I cannot recommend this enough. Knowing that you can finish preparing or tidying away while the machine does the timing for you is a great time saver. No more guess work and worry that food is under done.
Purchased instead of an outdoor bbq as where we live is just too wild and exposed. With this Optigrill we can use it in the garage annexe any time of the year and pretend that we are having a bbq.Otherwise, it can be used all year round in the kitchen or conservatory. Appears to work well but used only once so far.
2nd use a few weeks later – still relatively happy with it. An outside BBQ it most certainly is not but it is faster and cleaner than a gas or charcoal bbq.
We have used many ‘more affordable’ panini grills until we bumped into this and we wouldn’t change this with anything else. If you use the programs, it has the right temperature for cooking the right food. We have experimented with manual temperature and found lots of interesting settings. For example, for bread we put it on red light for 5 mins, then we switch it off to save electricity and leave the bread for another minute, and it has perfect taste and crispness. Highly recommended if you want your food nicely cooked and want a long lasting stylish panini grill at home.
Bought this to replace an earlier version which had seen better days. Price for this was very good. Love the touchscreen, love the variety of programmes available, cooks perfectly. Only downside is that it does take a bit of time to come up to temperature compared to the previous model, but lovely to use. You really can’t go wrong – it is such a versatile piece of equipment. Highly recommend.
Insanely easy to use and clean. Having to use an old fashioned grill built into the oven seems like such a chore now compared to this. Easy preprogrammed settings cooks your meat or veg to how you want it. And it is perfect every time. Never have I used a cooking utensil so easily. Also when it’s done just detach the steel plates and stick them in the dishwasher. No messy scrubbing and fat flying everywhere. Honestly the grill Is perfect in every way.
The grill is amazing. Easy to use and the display gives you all the information you need. It cooks the beef, chicken, fish to the spot. With the removable platters cleaning becames very easy.
Personally the only down point is the coating of the platters it peels a lot. Specially from the sides and the bottom. Just be aware that in a couple of years you would need to get new platters
Takes a while to preheat. The cook indicator can be a bit of a gamble. We have struggled to get a medium rare steak. We have only cooked steak on it a couple of times and may need a bit of practice. Really good with sausage and burgers etc. Audible cook alerts really good
I’ve had many George Forman grills but this thing a beast. I literally show it off to all our friends that come over lol.
The thing looks like an expensive BBQ in the house. And its super fast and cocks to perfection. Chicken, fish, sausage, steak (hmmm!) , lamp, everything!
I had to leave a review as I would be a coward to be telling people than not make the effort to let others know online.
Honestly if your thinking about this then just buy it. Hands down you will not be disappointed. And if there are any bad reviews, then I think those people are high lol. This thing is amazing.
Also, It is so strong and tough and has removable plates so you can wash them in a dishwasher or in sink super easy.
This is a beast of a grill and if you are after an industrial grilling machine that is flexible for a huge range of dishes then it will work for you. Crispy bacon is delivered in three minutes and it cooks steaks perfectly.
On the other hand, it has deep grooves to allow max fat to drain away and this is a cleaning challenge if you need it perfectly clean every time you use it. It is also very big and heavy to use – careful of moving this after use too as it takes a while to cool.
Overall I am satisfied and will update again to infinity of longevity
Bought the Optigrill Elite as a gift for my partner. I took ages deciding between the models and wondered if this was worth the extra 100 to the older model. As it is fairly new I struggled to find reviews. I found some videos on youtube advertising the grill and how to use it. I am glad I went with this model!! It is so easy to use, store and clean. Used a few times now and every time has been consistent. It beeps to let you know when its ready to start cooking and throughout the stages eg rare, medium etc. No ‘medium rare’ setting but you can stop it half way between medium and rare easily.
Only downfall is the cable is quite short.
There’s class and there’s optigrill class. There’s a reason why the Germans are mad for this. In a league of its own. Chicken cooked to perfection and moist at the same time. Best toasties I’ve ever tasted and the steaks are great. As long as you’re careful with this and wash the 0pates properly. Let them soak in boiling hot soapy water for an hour or as long as you see fit, Remove and then refill sink with hot soap water clean with cloth, and then let them air dry and then run cold water on the plates front and back to get soap off. Machine works fantastic. Very impressed.
What to say about a good product? Its just great and does the job well.
Easy to use – choose a program and just listen to the sound notifications. Wish there would be an app for iwatch to notify when it’s ready, haha.
Programs are accurate – I have tried different meat, vegs, sausages – everything is juicy and tasty.
Easy to clean – with a little water everything comes off by itself.
Purchased as a gift to husband and we are both using it for almost a year and satisfied.
We love this, we even took it away with us to a caravan park and was a god send. I think my husband is loving it more than me now. We are just a bit concerned about the reliability of the control board as we have heard it can be a problem from other comments. It is so easy to use and clean. Even our 18 year old son uses it all the time and was quite annoyed when we took it away with us.
One point to be careful of. It does cook things very quickly. My brother decided to give it a go with bacon and ignored the beeper whilst doing the rest of the sandwich. He didn’t leave it too long but it was enough to burn it a bit.
Wait for a few minutes for it to cool when it is finished and then the hotplates are a piece of cake to remove for cleaning.
It is a bit on the big side but it has taken over from the hob and grill for a lot of day to day tasks in the last few days so I’m not so worried about tha
I have been using the optigrill for a while now. I like the way it cooks meat, fish and veggies. I have tried beef, salmon and veggies and the results where excellent. Poultry is a bit tricky. I have cooked chicken breast and when I slice the wider part of the breast the results were excellent (if not the results are okish). I also tried the mini turkey breast fillet and the results were disappointing. It looks like although it is able to cook bigger pieces of meat when it comes to smaller, thinner pieces the performance is not great. I still give it a five star review cause I think it gives very good cooking results even for people whose knowledge of cooking is rather limited (like me!)
Had a George Forman previously and was please with that, looked for a replacement but couldn’t get the same so chose tefal. Probably the best steak I’ve had, had to learn to trust the timer and not leave on for longer, I also have cooked chicken fillets and thighs which were fab, only had a month so not experimented too much yet. Plates go in the dishwasher fine. Quite clumberson but mine goes away in a cupboard, quite bulky to leave out on work surface
The set programmes seem to undercook, especially burgers and steak which although cooked through, don’t look browned enough on the outside. However this is personal preference I suppose. I just use the manual button, and can get satisfactory browning, crispy bacon etc with that. Big plus is the removable plates, my previous George Foreman was a nightmare to clean, these are quick and easy to remove and clean.
I decided to buy a contact grill generally, and the Tefal OptiGrill specifically, because we tend to eat either burgers or sausages at least once a week, and this seemed to be a better option than either pan, oven, or conventional grill. I should add that these are vegetarian/vegan products, and the OptiGrill is working perfectly well with these meat-free alternatives. The OptiGrill creates less work or mess, and gives the food – quite obviously – a nice “grilled” look and taste.
The plates are very easily removed for cleaning, are easily and efficiently cleaned in the dishwasher, and reasonably easily cleaned by hand. All good.
I love this grill… I can leave the food there, and play with my child, and I can hear beep when it is done, so I don’t need to spend time overseen the preparation at the risk of overcook anything.
I remove the grill and put in the dish washer, and this is definitely the best feature of this product.
What don’t like about it?
1st when you select the pre set mode, it does not leave a nice color in the meal, it is quite pale without any cripsness.
2nd it generated loads of smoke. However, I believe it is inherent to the process, and any grill will have the same issue
I find that Beef Burgers are cooked to perfection, Beef burgers should be cooked till the last setting Red. You can cook beef burgers less if you want to take a risk as some people like them more juicy, but reading up about cooking minced meat if it’s not fully cooked example medium, then bacteria may still be present.
Sausages look a touch anemic when cooked but they are cooked fully ok, take off at the last setting Red.
Steak cooks very well, just two things about cooking steak, if you like medium rare as I do you have to end the cooking between the yellow light and the orange light as there is no medium rare point on the auto settings, meaning remove the steak before orange sounds, yellow light rare and the orange light is medium.
Also you find when cooking steak the auto settings doesn’t always allow you to rest a steak after it’s cooked because for instance if you like medium and the orange light chimes the steak is ready to eat straight away, if you would rather rest your meat take it off just before the setting chimes by watching the colour change, till you get used to how it cooks your steak cut into it after removal till your happy it’s cooked to your preference, then just cook steak to that point every time.
Chicken cooks very well, take it off at the last setting Red.
Haven’t tried fish yet.
A Panini can be toasted also on the grill, if you have the optigrill without the panini setting you can use the bacon setting or the manual orange setting, don’t bother with the colour beeps with a panini, you need to lift lid and look, The bacon setting tip comes straight from Tefal, I find around 8 mins for most Panini’s with a medium slice of bread, a little longer for thicker bread, Don’t go above one and a half inches thickness, that’s total thickness of the sandwich because that’s the max you can go with the Optigrill, that includes anything placed on the cooking plates.
I have used the bacon setting for bacon and I find streaky bacon is best to use, With bacon keep your eye on it periodically open grill till cooked how you like it, Try cooking streaky bacon and then take it off and keep it warm, Then change setting Optigrill setting to burger, cook burgers to Red open grill add a slice of cheese and top off with the cooked streaky bacon close the grill for a very short time till cheese starts to melt, remove and enjoy.
You can also cook gammon on the Bacon setting, take off at orange medium.
So all in all a splendid Grill, occasionally a little trial and error is needed for it to cook to your taste.
One last thing the grill is somewhat large and when open the lid has some height to it and also takes some space behind as well when it’s fully up.
Please note the lid must be opened Fully each time, so the setting for thickness of meat sets itself up correctly.
“Update” I have just tried the frozen setting on the Optigrill, A straight from the freezer 1inch thick Sirloin Steak, and it’s cooked it perfectly, More perfectly than if the steak was fully defrosted before hand, I immediately removed it at medium orange setting and cut into it to see how the grill performed before resting and it was just over medium rare, I let it rest for 5 minutes and it was more to medium, tender and extremely juicy, This has been the best steak I have cooked on the Optigrill so far.
My wife always complain about buy new kitchen equipment’s but she was more than Please with this Grill after a few use we are surprise how it cook 2 whole fish with head and tail by following the instruction and watching the lights that say well done cook the fish was great , she now stop using the oven and mainly Grill meat, fish, Chicken etc no problem we now prep our meat leave it in freezer and just slap on the grill walk away carry on with others with things with 3 young children’s in the home it a time saver and it cook fast this is great products easy to clean with only warm water and cloth we recommend this to anyone plus is a health way to cook little to no oil is need.
I have used this at least once a day for the last 10 months, I couldn’t believe I hadn’t written a review previously.
It cooks anything but mainly I cook frozen chicken.
When I come home from work I simply turn it on, press frozen, press chicken. It beeps to tell me its ready, place the chicken on and leave it. The OptiGrill will then automatically cook the chicken and beep (change colour on a button) when it reaches Raw, Medium to well done.
How easy is that, and it’s perfect every time also grills come off and wash in seconds in the sink with a washing up brush.
I normally do not write product reviews. To date, only one and that was because things needed to be said.
The Tefal Optigrill is AWESOME!
We have cooked Steaks, Chicken, Burgers, Fish, Toasted Sandwiches & Vegetables on this.
They were all perfect! and I am fussy eater.
I now compare the Steaks I eat outside to those we cook on the Tefal. The Optigrill is more than competitive, if not better.
My wife does not like fish at all, but she loves the Salmon and Coley cooked on the grill.
I have given this 5 stars across the board, except for durability and that is because it has only been 2 months.
Overall : This is the best Black Friday product I have ever bought from Amazon.
If it survives a year of usage, then 5 stars across the board.
We’re trying to get away from frying food and the Optigrill has proved excellent. So far used it for bacon (lovely crispy bacon), chicken, fish, steaks and veg. The automatic settings work really well (and the gradually changing light colour, highlighting rare/medium/well done is good fun). I expected that thin fish, for example, would get dried up, but we’ve found something like sea bream fillets (moistened with lemon juice) are still fine when cooked to medium. Mushrooms are a revelation – so much nicer than fried because they’re not soggy and all the flavour seems to be intensified.
Cleaning is very easy – the two cooking plates clip off and go in the dishwasher (or are easy to quickly clean by hand). The only oddity is the drip tray, which seems to be marked with a ‘no dishwasher’ symbol, even though the instruction book says to put it the dishwasher (we have, without problem).
We’re using it a lot and loving it.
I bought it to replace my old George Foreman Grill, which I didn’t really like because it was so small, and difficult to clean.
With the Tefal Optigrill, there is no guessing as to when the meat is cooked, an inbuilt cooking sensor detects when the appropriate temperate has reached and lets you know when the food is cooked. It can also be set to manual mode if you prefer.
It is easy to clean, and to do this, the plates can be removed, which is great. I am very pleased with my Optigrill.
It’s size has meant it’s replaced most of the worktop too.
The beeping annoys me and I think it’s pretty ugly, but, it works really really well and the amount of fat that it removes from meat, is scary. My wife (who uses it most) loves it. She doesn’t have to stand at the cooker, flipping things over. Just put meat on, close the lid, wait for the right colour on the dial and job’s a good’un.

It is quite large and bulky, but sits easily and comfortably on the kitchen side, and that is where it should stay. It is not something to be lifted in and out of a cupboard, as you will use it far too often every week for that.
It is so well thought out, easy to use, easy to clean and great cooking results. YouTube have a number of videos for inspiration and encourage you to try more than the obvious on it. I certainly have, and wouldn’t be without it now. Money well spent!
The tray beneath the instrument has a better design than the Breville one or others I have seen on the market as it is deep and matches quite nicely the dripping front area of the griller. The heating plates can be detached but you can only do this when they have completely cooled off as the latches are not easy to access and operate and doing this with hot plates is even a bit dangerous.
Regarding the preset programs, one thing to note is that this model (GC713) has the Sandwich/Toast program removed and replaced with a Bacon program. The info on the amazon site is a bit misleading as the buttons pictures are correct but the verbal description states incorrectly that there is a sandwich program. Now this doesn’t mean that you cannot do a panini or a toast – You need to switch to manual, set the temperature to Orange or Red level and then allow for 3-4 minutes of grilling (after the griller has heated up) – the exact setting will depend on the bread type/size/thickness. Also note that the bottom plate is tilted in a fixed way which may be excellent for grilling meats and allowing for the oils to drip but this is less needed and even a bit bothering when just doing an overloaded panini.
Overall an excellent griller with multiple uses mainly grilling meats etc.
Simple and easy to use and clean up after use if you only ever buy one grill make it this one
Cooks bacon, chicken, sausages, fish & panini’s all with the touch of a button AND there is a little button for frozen meat that you can press & bam it’s cold ookec to perfection in record time .
Plates come off easily & I am so pleased I just wish i’d purchased it soone
