Great graphics and is a fun game.
Only complaint is that there’s a lot of talking that can’t be skipped. Expected more of a fall out “shooty shooty” situation.
Good game play.
This is a fab game. Not too complicated and although you can pretty much go where you want you are gently led from place to place, at a pace you control, when you decide to move on. There are many sub-missions and extra plots to keep you suitably diverted from the main plot to keep you occupied and interested and, of course, you get to invest time and effort in upgrades to not only your own character but a number of associates you end up taking along for the ride. Well thought out and we’ll paced; your place. As far as Nintendo games go (in this genre), this is fantastic. If only there were more like this.
This is a great game, I ploughed through the story on game pass on Xbox without taking the time to fully appreciate it.
Figured it was a decent price and I now have a Switch so i’ll have another go and take my time, it’s such a good game packed with humour.
The port is very decent – in fact I would say near identical to the standard Xbox One version, distance and pop up do occur but it is slight and is the same as that version. The One X and One S versions are better but they are more powerful so fair enough.
Definitely one worth getting, a bit Fallout, a bit Rage 2 with a decent script and it’s lots of fun.
Great game kind of like fallout I understand people have moaned about the game on the switch but it’s a fun game with good gameplay don’t let the reviews turn you off
Full game on the switch. Very bad graphics. But runns smooth. Forgot how bad the graphics were after an hours. Very good story. I would recommend it if you like fallout.
*Read some reviews few months old talking about frame rate issues. But I updated it before I played. Haven’t had any frame rate issues.
I played almost entirely in docked mode on my 60 inch TV and I saw no problems with graphics. Perhaps I have a later, improved version of the game, but I thankfully didn’t have any of the lagging it graphics resolution problems I saw mentioned before I chose to buy.
I enjoyed the motion aiming- that’s new and cool to me, although I’m very new to gaming after a 20 hiatus(thank you covid)
The storylines were interesting and showed a great sense of humour. It really reminded me of the beloved series “Firefly”… So I was happier than a… Well I was very happy. I liked how it adapted to your choices. Your reputation with each faction increases/decreases based upon your actions, and they treat you differently.
A word of advice for players- do a manual save before making any big choices so you can go back and fix a perceived poor choice. When I was getting used to the new Bluetooth controller I bought, on more than one occasion I accidentally killed off an NPC pivotal to certain quests. Although, even then, it was entertaining to see little snarky comments in my task journal about having killed off the person who could help me(Poor Gladys. May she rest in peace)
Anyway, THOROUGHLY enjoyed this game.
An enjoyable game. But purchase with the intent to install the post release updates. They make the game much more playable, and thus enjoyable. Still a few bugs here n there, but enjoyable none the less
Good Port to the switch, not played on TV. Just handheld, but really enjoying. Decent depth to the game, aiming is a little fiddly. But all in all, happy with it.
Wasn’t sure whether to get this or not after all the reviews moaning about graphics and frame rates. But I’m glad I did as this is an immensely fun and entertaining game that looks just fine. Yeah it’s not as pretty as the ps4nor Xbox versions, but it does mean I get to play it anywhere.
I’m about 12 hours in this and I’m having an absolute blast.
The writing is fantastic, the story is engrossing and the gameplay is fluid and great fun. It certainly feels like Fallout but with slightly smoother game play and better and more humorous dialogue.
The graphics could be (and following an upcoming confirmed patch hopefully will be) better but they don’t take away from the games playability and brilliant story.
Reading other reviews I was very hesitant- I’m really pleased I took the plunge, definitely makes my top 5 Switch games.
Fantastic game.if it was released as a switch exclusive everyone would love it. The graphics are a bit washed out and load screens although rare are long in comparison to xbox but an amazing game and perhaps (witcher 3) are the best on switch.
Runs amazingly for a hand held.
My only criticism is the keypad on switch is not brilliant for aiming and the aiming support in game is essential. Also the game is story heavy and lighter on action is this a good or bad thing? Depends on your mood it’s not doom (amazing on switch) but it’s not a book either.
Seriously this runs beautifully just remember yea xbox has better graphics but you cant play it on the beach like I did today.
I have really enjoyed this game, as it has a similar post-apocalyptic graphic design as Fallout. The great twist is that the storyline is in space, so you have several great maps to explore and complete quests in. Some parts are very cinematic, and there are many dialogue options, which may not be suited to gamers who prefer quick point-and-shoot games. Just like within Fallout, and Skyrim, you can negotiate differently with the CPUs depending on personal preference, and this will have an interesting impact on your story experience. The world that is created in this game is very thoughtful and even makes you question the social structures of your existing world. Overall absolute 100/10 because of the general breadth of the quest types, characters, and world-laws.
I hesitated to but this game because I read bad reviews about, but I ordered anyway and it was one of the best game I ever played on the switch. Of course, it’s not the same graphic settings what’s on my PC. But I never found any bug, which is rare in games, and a huge performance patch is coming soon. I’m very happy that I can play this AAA game on my switch, worth the price. I hope we will get the future DLC’s as well. One of the best game I ever played. I want more games from Obsidian.
Great game sure it’s not the nicest looking because it’s running on lower specs then consoles or pc but it is portable i would only recommend this if you really like this game and don’t mind low graphics it’s the same game and im happy to have it on the go.
Seeing a few reviews talking about graphics, frame rate, lag etc…
While I appreciate the game may not be performant on the Switch, I think everyone knew because this was a port from more powerful consoles that this was always going to be an issue.
As a complete novice to the game, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Game mechanics were simple enough to pick up quickly, complex enough to engross and flexible enough to adjust your style to your preference. I’m ashamed to admit I blasted through this game in a long weekend. Although the game does struggle at points, this didn’t feel like a big deal at any time during play-through. During intense battles where lots of enemies appeared (usually because I shot someone in a neutral zone… oops) the game may have slowed down for a couple of seconds but this happened only a handful of times in a whopping 30hours of playtime. I’d say this is a reasonable trade-off to being able to play this awesome game on the Switch!
I think I’ll be playing this again when I get another long weekend to fully nerd-out again. 4/5 because obviously the graphics/performance issues do take a little something from it, but still an amazing game.
I have this game on the PC which I run at 4k and high details. I wanted a portable version seeing as the game is so large.
So the graphics are blurry and low resolution. Graphic details are lower than the pc version.
However all the game is there. Best played in handheld mode as the graphics don’t look as bad.
Like I say the gameplay is all there and in my opinion that’s all that matters. Yes you do get the odd frame drops but its not as bad as some people are making out.
Overall yes it is a bad port graphically but as I said earlier the game is all there. That game is brilliant so if you want a portable version of the game, go for it.
This game is great, the story is incapturing. The down side is the graphics, whilst being playable in hand held, they are much better in docked mode, though I feel I’ve got used to the graphics . I would definitely recommend this game. As like all switch games it’s great to have on the go.
Ok, so I’ve waited all year for this to be released on the Switch because I wanted a Fallout style first person RPG for the system ever since I bought the console.
I also have a PS4 Pro so obviously I could have got this game for that ages ago and of course it would be superior in terms of the graphics especially on the big screen at home. However, I already own many games of this type including the Fallout titles for that system and I just wanted The Outer Worlds on the Switch with both options of portability and docked play available, after all commuting to work is on the horizon again soon sadly with plenty of distraction needed from obvious worries!
Now lets be clear, at this point just after release and even with the 4GB day one patch it’s true the game doesn’t look great particularly in docked mode and it is struggling to maintain the target 30 FPS in certain areas of play, I have found handheld mode is considerably better looking on the small and much more forgiving Switch screen and it also seems to run a lot smoother overall due to using a lower resolution in this mode compared to docked. Audio is excellent with no problems there at all.
Despite the technical visual issues that are clearly present however I must say that the game is really good, the full game is here nothing has been cut out and it has a great story with excellent characters and top class voice acting, it’s very funny with a tongue in cheek sense of humour, there’s loads of customisation and items with deep RPG elements involved and lots of genuinely interesting side quests to compliment the solid main story, you have plenty of dialogue options that affect the way things go and most importantly the game still manages to actually play quite well for the most part, also the Switch version does include motion aiming control options and at last you can scale the size of the HUD text to suit the small screen, it’s well thought out and honestly I’m really enjoying the game.
Graphics do not make a game, they never have. Besides, I’m pretty certain that this will be patched in the coming weeks and things will improve considerably with a bit more time and work from the development team, sadly that’s the modern way so while the Switch version at this stage is definitely a bit on the rough side the simple fact is that The Outer Worlds is a very good game and if you only own a Nintendo Switch or you just want a portable version of this game I would still say it’s absolutely worth a look, or possibly hang on a little while to see if a further patch arrives to improve the experience if graphic performance is really important to you.
I can live with the rough looks I’m old school I suppose and the game itself is fab, it’ll do for me because I now have the Fallout style game I’ve been waiting for on the Nintendo Switch so it’s all good.
4 stars.
Update*
The game has now had a patch that does improve the graphics and performance to a reasonable extent, it’s still a bit rough but it is better than the early days and also the price is now half what it was on release so I would definitely recommend giving this a go now on the Switch.
Great graphics and is a fun game.

Great game, for twenty quid a fantastic deal, not as good looking as pc version but totally redeemed as a handheld version..
