Nous avons utilis ce GPS pour partir en vacances et faire du tourisme en Bretagne.
La programmation est trs facile et les options proposes sont trs claires .Le recalcul des itinraires en cas d’erreur est trs rapide .
Par contre le systme est sensible au mouvement et se repositionne en attente en cas de mouvement brusque si vous le tenez(c.f. mode pitons ou hors support si celui ci vient vous faire dfaut).
La recherche de trajets courts tout prix nous fait parfois passer par des lieux improbables, troits ou impossibles: portails, sens interdits, virages problmatiques….)
Trs satisfaisant dans l’ensemble.
I’ve had a couple of TomToms prior to this which is a great improvement. The bigger screen is appreciated and the maps are clearer. I’ve not yet explores every corner, of the TomTom.

I bought this to replace my older one which was a bit too big. I sold that to a friend who liked it, so it off-set paying for this one.
I really like the wi-fi updating, rather than connecting it to the PC.
The only downside is the voice recognition, as I can’t find where to turn that bit off, though I haven’t properly searched how to turn it off.

Habe mir das TomTom Navi fr meinen Mercedes-Benz in dem das Becker Map Pilot verbaut war gekauft, nachdem das BMP-Modul den Dienst eingestellt hatte und eine “Reparatur” in Polen fr 99 Euro und ein Kartenupdate 90 Euro zu Buche gestanden wren, war fr mich klar, ich muss mich vom BMP trennen.
Die Installation hat ein wenig gedauert, die Bedienungsanleitung zur Installation war ein wenig drftig, aber es hat dann Alles gut geklappt! Absolute Kaufempfehlung!!!
Ich bin (fast) rundum zufrieden. Einziges Manko ist, dass es keine Mglichkeit gibt, Koordinaten einzugeben, was bei einer Reihe gnstigerer Modelle durchaus mglich ist. Daher ist man darauf angewiesen, dass sich in der Nhe Gebude mit Hausnummern befinden. Eine Ansteuerung von Punkten in der freien Landschaft ist somit nicht mglich.

The best Tom Tom I’ve used from updates to the speedometer. When I first used it it felt like driving was a kind computer game and I almost thought it should tell me about on coming traffics high beams, maybe one day and now I’ve had it a while driving would be boring and frustrating without it. The only flaw from my one is that it’s a little behind real windscreen observation but not slow and now I’m use to it it’s fine and the clip on and off for storage is so good and sturdy it becomes a pleasure to get use to
It’s very large for a six- inch but I have been pleasantly surprised that it maintains a signal where others have let me down in central London. I especially like the feature that allows me to avoid certain features like toll bridges, there is one in Southampton that charges 25 for trucks !

J’ai achet ce GPS en remplacement d’un autre d’une marque concurrente qui ne m’a jamais donn entire satisfaction. Celui-ci est plus rapide et plus prcis. J’ai actuellement tlcharg les principaux pays europens sparment car plus rapide sauf que l’usage le changement de frontire est gnant; lorsque j’aurai le temps je tlchargerai l’europe mais l je crains le manque de place. Bravo et merci au service aprs vente qui a rsolu un problme du support pour voiture.

Great screen display, nice size and I really like the way it clips on and off the power supply windscreen fixing bracket, no difficult silly little USB plug to fiddle with. I find the accuracy to be very good, not 100% but acceptable. The speech recognition leaves a lot to be desired often not registering a command first time. I find the number of updates to be laborious and I tend to ignore them for a while as they take a while to upload.
All in all this is the best Sat Nav I have ever used and the updates are free which is one of the reasons I chose this model along with the 6″ screen. Recommended.

Easy to use but it doesn’t always connect to my phone for live traffic which is very annoying. My last tomtom had built in live traffic and I probably should have gone for that again. It also drains my phone battery quickly when connected for live traffic.
I like the fact that it really did not take too long for me to get used to it, took it out for the first time today and really pleased, the only fault was a mistake on my part, the voice didn’t speak to me, I hadn’t allowed it too, I couldn’t find how to initially, haven’t gone into it too much yet, but good so far.

Brought this to replace an older device that was becoming unreliable. The bigger screen is nice and clear with plenty of room to display all the information required without looking cluttered. Instructions were clear and linking it to my TomTom account was a doddle. The mount is strong and stable and attaches to the car windscreen easily and stays there. The TomTom is held on the mount magnetically and does not move. The power cable could be longer to make it easier to route to the 12v socket in the car (I like to try and hide the cable if possible). The charger with USB connection does the job. I have used TomTom devices for many years as well as other brands and I find the TomTom easier to programme and use. My only grumble is updates. It connected to my home wifi no problem (I have a fast network at home), It then took nearly 2 hours to update despite the speed of my network and yes it did have a strong signal. In the car the step by step instructions and warnings are clear and give you plenty of time to re-act. If TomTom could do something about the slow updates this would be a 10 out of 10 device, as it is I can only give it 8. That said the large 6″ screen is great.

Sicuramente ha servizi nuovi ed aggiornati rispetto al mio vecchio Tomtom start 60. E’ veloce,gps molto reattivo nel trovare la posizione. Purtroppo al pari della mappa del TomTom start 60 che avevo prima,anche in questa non vengono riconosciuti diversi indirizzi e inoltre quando mi arrivato il pacco a casa,una volta tirato fuori il navigatore,sulla parte posteriore ho trovato delle macchie indelebili(simili a graffi),il navigatore per sembrava nuovo e siccome mi serviva urgentemente ho deciso di non farmelo cambiare,pacco arrivato con uno o due giorni di anticipo.
Overall very pleased with my purchase. The only issue I have had is with pairing the sat nav with my phone to receive text messages and live traffic updates. My phone was unable to focus on the QR code so unable to achieve pairing.
In use the driving instructions are clear and finding addresses and points of interest seems fairly easy. Not really used the full potential yet as only used to travel between various offices and known locations.

Our old satnav was no longer supported by TomTom so had to upgrade. This one was clearer and less fuss than the old one. Bigger display. Wifi downloads on the Satnav straight from TomTom Drive on the Internet. Magnetic mount just clicks. So much less fiddly. Do not have to set it up through the Hire Car’s radio. Each one’s different! Hooray!!

Upgraded after a 10 year old TomTom finally stopped being useful. Amazing difference in speed and features. Particularly like the smartphone connectivity so you can plan journeys on the sofa and have it automatically sync up to your TomTom when you set off.
The only disappointment is the voice recognition and handsfree phone features. We drive a basic car and the system is just not coping with the vehicle noise so struggled to hear instructions and when we do get the phone to dial out is hard to hear each other.
Easier to use than older model, especially getting updates. No complaints – it does the job well.

Got a job as a delivery driver and needed to get to places with a postcode and street name. It has never failed me yet and this got to 100’s of locations with no probs.

I love the size! Easy to use for basic route finding; clear, unfussy graphics. Just a tad slow to react when turning corners but got used to it. I’ve not explored the useful but for technophobes, challenging, advanced features of using phone link to get up to date traffic information. I’ll eventually master it all but at well over 70 my brain is slower than it once was.

Questo molto bello ma mancano alcune comodit rispetto al mio vecchio star visto che la superficie lo permette:icona sullo schermo x memorizzare all’istante un luogo;barra laterale per niente comoda e ingombrante; avrei preferito organizzare il display con icone personali per un uso immediato

Having tried both Garmin and Tom Tom sat navs, I prefer the Tom Tom for ease of use – it is much more intuitive to use in my opinion. We had an older Tom Tom, and I do like the larger screen of this model, but obviously it does take up more room on the windscreen. The touchscreen is much more sensitive than previous models and works very well. No problems with charging it. Haven’t synced it to my phone as my phone is an android with not a lot of free storage, so I actually don’t have room for the app, so I’ve had none of the problems that others have had with it losing connection. Really happy with it.

While I’m used to TOM TOM sat nav, I find these expensive, but worthy. The new one is sleek and light in weight.
Im sure I will have no trouble with my TomTom, great name, robust, sturdy looking, having switched it on, the display looks great, will try it out soon, but for now very impressed, and would recommend.
Un seul bmol : pas d’affichage de l’heure lorsqu’on navigue en mode carte (sans trajet prtabli) alors que c’tait le cas sur mon ancien GPS Tomtom start 25.
Nice clear maps. Accurate. Good battery life. downsides are. When it said magnetic holder I thought it meant it stuck to the dash magnetically, not the screen into the holder. so that was a bit disappointing. Speed cameras seem to only work for mobile sites when you are en route and not travelling. Must be some sort of bug or maybe I’m missing a setting. But overall seems good build quality and prefer it over my old Garmin.
Ha sostituito il vecchio TomTom Start 62 ma veramente un grosso passo avanti. Il collegamento wireless comodissimo (si aggiorna da solo mentre lo si carica, ovviamente nelle prossimit di un router ).
Lo schermo touch molto sensibile e la grafica chiara ed intuitiva. Per me un ottimo acquisto.
Das Navi ist schnell startbereit. Bis auf wenige Ausnahmen, wie z.B fehlender Kreisverkehr in der Algarve, ohne Probleme bei der Navigation. Da ich hufig nur Koordinaten eingebe, sind mir die Zahlenfelder dort etwas klein geraten.
Long difficult trips to furthermost Germany… reliable navigation and warnings of changes in speed limit. Responsive to changes in traffic conditions.
Haven’t tried Siri or phone call integration… just route planning and minute – to – minute changes needed.
Didn’t find a new build address, but overall still a great product and very easy to use.
Voice recognition is poor but I have had no problems using it.
This item is good, the picture is clear and the instructions very useful. The menu system is complex and downloading updates is not quite as simple as it suggests. The old TomTom menu system was better.

I generally like this TomTom sat nav a lot, when it comes to the screen, and the ease of use of core sat nav functions but find that for me there are a lot of feature add ons I either don’t use or have proved a bit annoying. The build quality is great and as a simple sat nav this is really easy to use – having used a more basic 5″ model from the same manufacturer I was able to just pick this larger GO version up and start using it right out of the box. I’m very short sighted. I wear glasses or contact lenses, but my eyes can get quite tired by the end of the day. When my eyes are tired, the larger 6″ capacitive screen is a significant advantage over the 5″ version I had before. I find the split screen lane guidance on motorways really useful, and on the 6″ screen, it’s a lot easier to see what you’re supposed to be doing at a glance.
I tend to use this for core features rather than the extras it’s capable of. I don’t like to use handsfree calling or Siri while driving – these are unhelpful distractions. For me, this is mainly about navigating between places when I don’t know where I’m going and for that, this has been absolutely brilliant. I’ve done a fair mix of longer distance journeys, with a good tranche of motorway driving; commuting; and more rural runs, and it hasn’t let me down yet.
Although there are lots of things I do like about this sat nav, I don’t like the speed camera warnings – I don’t speed and find the warnings shrieky, distracting and annoying. I’m not a big fan of the 3D maps. For the first couple of weeks I had this, I had perfectly normal 2D maps, but 3D versions seem to have turned on after an update. I find these less clear and straightforward to use, but have been a bit lazy, and haven’t spent any time trying to work out whether it’s possible to turn them back off!
Gli accessori in dotazione sono i classici che si trovano in un comune navigatore, avrei preferito l’aggiunta del caricatore da muro, cos da poterlo caricare da casa e non tenerlo collegato all’accendisigari,soprattutto quando i viaggi non sono troppo lunghi.
La grandezza dello schermo superiore a quello che gi posseggo e questo mi permette di vedere meglio il percorso.
Ottima la possibilit di aggiornamenti tramite wifi, cosa che con l’altro non potevo fare, si collega velocemente alla linea di casa e sono abbastanza veloci.
La grafica fatta molto bene cos da poter capire quando ci si avvicina ai punti di interesse.
Personalmente, sar perch proveniamo da uno di quei modelli basici, ma siamo molto soddisfatti, funziona benissimo e l’uso semplice ed intuitivo, assolutamente PROMOSSO!!!!!

Manuale di istruzioni con spiegazioni errate dei simboli,ma probabilmente un errore di impaginazione del mio manuale; in ogni caso l’uso semplice e intuitivo.
Son cran transflexif est sublime de lisibilit et de ractivit, son interface est d’une fluidit remarquable.
Tout s’est trs bien pass l’utilisation, part quelques limitations de vitesse errones et un lieu dit inconnu. Google les connaissait, mais cause des zones blanches, le portable tait inutilisable !
Ce tom-tom est un excellent choix.
C’est fini avec ce modle! Les mises jour se font par Wifi. Donc une fois que vous avez le GPS dans la pice et que vous avez paramtr votre wifi avec son code, Tom-Tom se dbrouille comme un grand!
Pour le reste, rien de nouveau sous le soleil, c’est toujours un GPS ultra-pratique, avec un grand cran, une voix trs comprhensible, une grande flexibilit dans le choix des itinraires… Je n’utilise pas le reste des fonctionnalits.
Fourni avec une fixation pour le parebrise, un cble pour recharger l’appareil et un allume cigare ! Le kit est complet. C’est apprciable car ce n’est pas toujours le cas, surtout avec des GPS moins haut de gamme.
L’cran est vraiment grand (15 cm, 6 pouces)! Cela facilite le suivi pour les myopes comme moi ! De plus, le guidage vocal est trs bon. Le son est clair et les indications sont donnes l’avance.
Tom-tom nous offre 6 mois d’abonnement au service zones de danger, il nous prvient lorsque l’on dpasse la vitesse autorise et qu’un radar fixe est proximit et lorsqu’il y a un ralentissement du trafic pour proposer un chemin alternatif. Les mises jour avec les cartes de l’Europe entire sont gratuites. Grande nouveaut pour tom-tom, plus besoin de faire les mises en jour en le brachant un ordinateur. Elles se font simplement par wifi lorsque l’appareil vous signale des mises jour disponibles.
L’installation et la synchronisation avec mon smartphone tait trs simple raliser. Il suffit de suivre les instructions et d’installer l’application My Drive. On peut ensuite utiliser le GPS comme kit main libre pour tlphoner au volant. Je trouve cela assez inutile car je ne souhaite pas tlphoner en conduisant et que la synchronisation avec le tlphone en Bluetooth vide la batterie de mon tlphone trop rapidement.
Les points ngatifs de ce tom-tom sont peu nombreux. Il ne tient pas longtemps la charge mais la marque a tout prvu en proposant un cble et un allume cigare chargeur. Personnellement, pour les petits trajets je ne le branche pas mais lorsque je sais qu’il va y avoir plusieurs heures de route j’anticipe en le branchant ds le dpart.
Je trouve le prix de cet appareil un peu cher mais la qualit est au rendez-vous. Plus besoin de s’embarrasser des mises jour sur le pc, l’cran est vraiment de bonne qualit et le guidage se fait avec simplicit.
Cela fait une dizaine d’annes que j’utilise des GPS TomTom ; le plus rcent que j’aie achet tait le GO 5200 qui appartient la gamme premium quipe d’une carte SIM intgre, ce qui permet de profiter de l’itinrance et de donnes illimites, sans frais supplmentaires.
On en retrouve les principales fonctionnalits dans le prsent GO Essential :
– Le GPS fonctionne vite, et vous oriente trs bien y compris dans les embranchements et ronds-points. Le guidage sur autoroute est remarquable ;
– Carte d’Europe ;
– L’info Trafic en temps rel est disponible vie, et les mises jour du service Zones de danger (radars) sont gratuites pendant 6 mois. Attention : le GO Essential ne bnficie pas d’une carte SIM intgre, donc il reoit ces services sous rserve qu’outre le Bluetooth vous ayez activ le mode “Donnes mobiles” de votre smartphone ;
– Mise jour via Wi-Fi intgr : ce n’est pas plus rapide qu’en transitant par un PC, mais il y a moins d’incidents de connexion. Surtout, l’appareil vous signale la disponibilit d’une mise jour, alors qu’avant il fallait brancher le GPS sur l’ordinateur, pour souvent dcouvrir qu’il n’y avait rien de bien indispensable tlcharger ;
– Excellente synthse vocale : on croirait entendre parler un humain. Tout au plus les noms trangers sont parfois gratigns ;
– coute des SMS et messages WhatsApp – Facebook : cette fonctionnalit est dangereuse et ne devrait pas exister. Peut-tre constitue-t-elle un moindre mal pour les accros des messageries ;
– Kit mains libres : cela constitue un plus pour les conducteurs dont le vhicule n’est pas quip d’origine de cette fonction. Le TomTom est capable de rcuprer les contacts de votre smartphone (Bluetooth activ), et si vous appelez une personne titulaire de plusieurs numros il vous demandera si vous voulez la joindre au domicile, au travail ou sur le mobile ;
– L’appli TomTom MyDrive : elle fonctionne bien. Mais j’ai toujours trouv plus pratique de slectionner les adresses directement sur le GPS, ou de composer mes voyages partir du PC dot d’un grand cran.
Les points faibles (communs toute la gamme TomTom) :
– Quoique les cartes soient mises jour plusieurs fois par an, il faut souvent des annes pour qu’une cration de rue ou une suppression de route y soit rpercute. TomTom n’est toutefois pas le seul souffrir de ce dfaut ;
– Je me suis habitu l’interface adopte par TomTom depuis plusieurs annes. Mais comme beaucoup d’utilisateurs je la juge perfectible. Voici un exemple : si vous recherchez un point d’intrt, par exemple un Centre commercial, “Auchan”, un Bureau de poste, un Restaurant, ou un “Mc Donald”, le GPS vous suggre des adresses proches de votre position, ou situes le long d’un parcours, ou proches d’une destination. C’est excellent, cependant la liste de rsultats est cantonne dans la moiti droite de l’cran au dtriment de la lisibilit des adresses, tandis que la moiti gauche reste inutilement vide.
Dans un pass rcent cet appareil constituait un bon choix. Je constate qu’en fvrier 2022 :
– Le GO Essential 5 pouces cote 170 euros en format 5 pouces, et 200 euros pour le 6 pouces ;
– Les modles suprieurs cotent 140 euros pour le TomTom GO 520 (format 5 pouces) et 209 euros pour le GO 620 (format 6 pouces). Ils surpassent le GO Essential sur les points suivants : gratuit VIE du service Zones de danger (radars), et carte Monde.
Conclusion : achetez le TomTom GO 520 ou le TomTom GO 620 si vous prfrez le format 6 pouces, vous ne le regretterez pas !
Ce modle de 6 pouces (15 cm de diagonale) reprend beaucoup des lments du GO Basic de 5 ou de 6 pouces.
Mais par contre il n’y a aucune comparaison avec la puissance interne. Il faut bien justifier 80 100 Euros de plus.
Quand on l’allume on est littralement bluff par par la carte qu’on a devant soi et qui reprend presque tous les lments de Google Earth. Pas moyen de se tromper: les immeubles sont tous reprsents. Du jamais vu ma connaissance.
La mise jour des cartes se fait comme pour les modles infrieurs en Wifi sur son compte TomTom. Comme c’est un appareil puissant, la mise jour de base ncessite pas moins 8 Gigas de donnes. Une fois charge la mise jour, reste environ 4 Gb de libre sur le disque dur du GO Essential. Connect au routeur, en moins d’heure votre appareil est compltement mis jour.
Je retrouve sur la carte les lments que j’avais sur mon premier TomTom d’il y a dix ans : savoir l’info traffic, qui l’poque ncessitait un cble difficile faire tenir sur le pare brise. Aujourd’hui sur ce modle , l’info est directement sur l’cran droite. Et si votre itinraire est trop encombr, une alternative est propose.
Pour les voix c’est du classique avec Thomas qui nonce les noms des rues ou Catherine, la traditionnelle de TomTom. Personnellement je prfre Thomas.
Dans les mise jour TomTom persiste proposer un abonnement pour les zones de danger, en clair les radars officiels. je croyais que c’tait interdit par la lgislation franaise sous peine d’amende en cas de contrle. en tout cas je prfre m’en dispenser et obir la rglementation lgale.
Comme de coutume depuis plusieurs annes les mises jour de carte sont vie. Google Maps est pass par l et les fabricants de GPS s’adaptent la concurrence.
Deux lments importants pour ce modle :
-une trs solide base que je peux poser sur la planchette de mon tableau de bord que j’ai quipe d’un petit disque adhsif TomTom (achat spar, non livr avec l’appareil). Certains pourront prfrer la pose sur le pare brise, avec l’inconvnient qu’en cas de froid l’adhsion se fasse difficilement.
-Une application My Drive sur smartphone que l’on appaire trs facilement par bluetooth sur le GPS. Cette application permet dj de prparer un itinraire, de transmettre une mise jour ou de se relier en appuyant sur la touche tlphone de l’cran ses correspondants. La liste des contacts s’affiche sur l’appli, et l’on peut parler en main libre (choix faire dans l’interface). Personnellement je ne l’utiliserai pas car je considre que lcher son volant pour un tlphone ou mme appuyer sur l’cran du GPS n’est pas idal pour la scurit de conduite. Mais il est vrai que ma voiture est quipe d’un cran, que le smartphone y est appair en bluetooth, et surtout les touches de dcrochage et de volume sont sur le volant. En revanche le passager peut relier son smartphone au GPS, ce qui vite de bloquer le conducteur pour une communication et qui de plus est dpourvue de danger.
Problme rcurrent chez TomTom : la faiblesse de la batterie qui ne tient pas plus d’une heure pour un modle de ce genre. Faire comme pour les modles prcdents : brancher la prise USB, micro du ct de l’appareil, standard de l’autre, sur l’accessoire allume cigare fournie avec l’appareil et que l’on doit introduire dans la prise adquate de sa voiture. Attention : certains modles de voitures comme les Nissan Micra n’ont pas de prise allume cigares. Bien vrifier que l’on peut alimenter son GPS TomTom Esssentiel.
Autre accessoire fournie, comme pour le modle Go Basic, un stylo qui facilite l’criture sur le clavier virtuel du GPS.
En conclusion : un superbe appareil,, trs puissant pour vous diriger ou corriger une erreur de trajet, au prix pas exagr mon avis de 250 environ sur Amazon.
Le plus dur est de trouver sur Amazon un tui assez pais , non seulement pour protger l’cran du GPS, mais aussi pour transporter la base, la prise USB et l’adaptateur allume cigare.
Achat hautement recommand.
We’ve always had TomTom satnavs since year dot. Despite their many failings I’ve grown to enjoy them more and more as the technology gets more advanced. We got our most recent current generation TomTom in about 2015 after its predecessor was stolen from our unlocked car. It was a 6000 and I loved it, despite its failings. Then my son dropped it and the screen cracked, at which point we discovered that just like with an iPhone, if you break the screen the cost of getting it fixed can be more than a bit annoying. That was on the eve of a big holiday so I rushed out to Halfords and got its replacement, a 6200 which we still have. This GO Essential is so similar to our top of the range 6200 that I struggle to find differences.
The really good thing about the 6000 was that it didn’t need me to connect using my mobile phone, it had a free data SIM plan that connected to Vodafone and would update everything magically. Sometimes I had to turn it off and on again, sometimes it went slow, sometimes it needed to reboot very slowly at the start of a long journey… a list of complaints as long as my arm… but it did its main job spectacularly well – guiding me to my destination, particularly if there were road blocks and you find you’ve joined a club – everyone who has live traffic updates on their TomTom goes the same route to circumvent traffic jams. Sometimes it sends you the weirdest way, even around your own backstreets.
So when I got the 6200 I assumed it would be just a bit better than the 6000. But it wasn’t. I need to have my phone casting a WiFi cloud all the time or I don’t get live traffic updates which is incredibly annoying when you join the back of a huge queue because your TomTom didn’t warn you.
Given that it’s a slightly more basic model, what does the Essential GO not do that my 6200 does? Firstly you have to select a single continent when you set up the Essential GO. This doesn’t bother me because I’m only going to drive in England, but I guess it could affect your decision about which model to buy. The Essential GO doesn’t have an inbuilt SIM card. Well I can make up for the absence of that by using my Android smartphone. Finally you only get 6 months subscription to speed cameras. This is a big letdown really, you’d be mad to drive around without knowing where speed cameras are. It solves the mystery of why everyone suddenly slows down at various points on motorways.
In terms of using the GO Essential day to day, I don’t use the Android app, it’s just annoying. I keep experimenting with it, keep finding it annoys me, keep uninstalling it. If I want to set a destination I either do it on my PC by logging in to MyDrive, or I do it on the satnav itself. The device has its little foibles. Aside from sometimes booting up slowly for reasons I can only guess at… which delays the start of your journey… the most annoying is when you type your address in, for some reason TomTom don’t give you an alphabetic keyboard with a row of numbers at the top, even though there is space, you have to either switch between numeric and alphabetic keyboards, which turns out to be the most efficient way to add a postcode, or more irritatingly, hold your finger over the letters in the top row to allow you to select the number that shares its space. A great way to have a car accident if you think you can do this while driving. The other annoying thing, as mentioned, is when it decides to forget that it can give you traffic updates and it sends you straight into a huge queue.
The other thing I’ve grown used to with TomTom is that it likes sending you down tiny single track roads. I’ve decided the reason it does this is because it thinks the road has a 70mph limit, but the worst time it did this to me was when I hired a huge van and it took me down tiny country roads – I already have grey hair, but if I didn’t, that journey would have made me go grey instantly. It was a nightmare. I have occasionally wondered if I’m stuck in some kind of scenic route mode, because it does send you down very picturesque roads that look like something out of Lord of the Rings. But when you’re trapped in this mode the novelty quickly wears off.
But the good things outweigh the bad. It’s really good at getting you into the correct lane to negotiate an unfamiliar town. It’s fun to hear it tell you the name of a place that the computer voice has cobbled together, so for a while it used to say “Tilbury” in a very posh accent, but then a software update took this joy away, to be replaced with another joy – at the moment it says “take the modorway” as though the voice actor was told to say it in the coolest way possible, but failed.
Finally, this is a good device for someone who has no problem creating a WiFi cloud from their smartphone, who knows their WiFi password, that sort of thing. But I regret to say that older and non-technical people might find the technology a little bit of an obstacle.
There is one last question. Has Google Maps on your smartphone finally made the TomTom redundant? Not for me, I’m happier with a permanently plumbed in device that does one job exceptionally well, but you have to accept that TomTom the company must be looking over their shoulder wondering when Google will make them completely redundant.
Puisque je rachte un nouveau un peu plus petit (moins cher et je le vois assez bien donc j’y vais low cost) j’en viens critiquer certains points qui n’otent pas la qualit des trajets mais qui pourraient tre amliors : comme choisir entre le temps restant ou le kilomtrage restant, moi sur mon encore plus ancine (Start 62) j’avais les 2 parfaitement visible dans le coin droit en haut. Maintenant je fais choisir directement mon tomtom pour le chemin sans embouteillage, avant j’hsitais me dtourner de ma route habituelle (je me perds facilement), le fait quand je chante en voiture ou que je parle quand j’ai un passager que l’cran passe en mode “je vous coute” et cache la route, moche quand on arrive sur un gros croisement. Et dernier point pour les petites routes o il faut tourner mais qui sont si serres par rapport l’une des autres il faudrait faire plus visible car souvent je prends la mauvaise, bon aprs je retombe sur mes pieds.
mon avis pour mon tomtom 6″ que j’utilise depuis plus de 2 ans (je ne modifie rien) :
Ce GPS TOMTOM est grand, il me convient tout fait, car sur plus petit ds fois j’avais du mal voir les noms de rues par exemple, mme si TOMTOM me les disait, j’avais besoin de voir pour anticiper, l je suis pleinement satisfaite de ce format.
Ce que j’aime aussi dans les TOMTOM (j’en suis peut tre mon 10me, j’ai commenc avec les tout premiers, et je modernisais au fur et mesure des sorties nouvelles) c’est que l’on peut choisir son chemin, par exemple quand je ne veux pas prendre les autoroutes mais les chemins buissonniers de campagne je n’ai qu’ dcocher la case -autoroutes- aprs on peut aussi choisir rapide, facile, cologique
Le son pour vous guider est parfait, ds fois je conduis uniquement avec la voix, elle est prcise, prvient l’avance et quand il faut tourner le dit carrment -tournez maintenant- plus moyen de se tromper, avec d’autres GPS d’autres marques sur les ronds-points combien de fois je ne savais pas dans quelle bretelle je devais tourner ! L c’est clair c’est net il suffit de regarder l’image et le son vous dirige vraiment bien.
Un point que j’aime moins c’est quand il passe en mode nuit tout seul, je prfrerai garder le mode jour mme s’il fait nuit, je n’ ai pas encore trouv si je peux dcocher le mode nuit ou pas ?
Le plus du plus avec ce TOMTOM GO essential c’est que vous aurez le traffic vie, les cartes d’Europe vie, et summum 6 mois de mises jour du service Zones de danger (bon il n’est pas cher j’y suis abonne depuis des annes et vraiment le nombre de contraventions que j ‘ai vites grace cette fonction d’alerte, je conduis trs prudemment mais ds fois on est inattentif, et si TOMTOM voit que vous allez vous prendre une prune il devient tout rouge et bip trs fort.
Et le plus du plus de ce TOMTOM les infos trafic d’une prcision remarquable pour vitez les embouteillages. Judicieusement vous serez avertis d’un embouteillage et TOMTOM propose alors des parcours de secours qui sont dgags aprs vous de les accepter ou non, moi je conseille de suivre ces conseils car pour avoir fait le mme chemin avec des amis dans d’autres vhicules sur un mme parcours je suis toujours arrive avant eux sans forcer sur la vitesse, simplement avec le choix judicieux du parcours sans embouteillage.
L’cran 6 pouces est de belle taille et cela donne une trs bonne visibilit. Il garde cependant une taille de gupe au niveau de l’paisseur ce qui limite son poids et son encombrement.
L’appareil est livr avec son support voiture ventouse avec un dispositif rapide d’encliquetage du GPS sur le support toujours pratique. Un chargeur allume cigares et un cble USB vers micro-USB sont livrs.
Le connecteur micro-USB se branche directement sur le support, malheureusement il n’y a pas de connecteur directement sur le GPS, c’est dommage car si vous emmenez ce dernier chez vous pour le connecter au wifi, vous devrez emmener le support ou en acqurir un autre.
La batterie interne dispose d’un autonomie d’une heure, mais pour une mise jour importante a pourrait tre un peu juste. Reste l’acquisition d’un
Car oui, ce modle dispose du WiFi intgr, ce qui permet de grer les mises jour directement partir de l’appareil, sans passer par un PC via l’application Mydrive connect (mais cela reste possible). C’est pratique et l’appareil vrifie automatiquement si des mises jours sont disponibles.
La connexion WiFi ne fonctionne priori qu’en 2,4 GHz, mais l’interface est simple utiliser.
Le GO Essential propose les cartes Europe avec mises jour vie ainsi que le Trafic galement vie. Par ailleurs, le service Zones de danger (radars) est inclus pour une dure de 6 mois, au-del il faudra reprendre un abonnement.
Le trafic temps rel et les zones de danger ncessitent un smartphone avec data et Bluetooth. Vous devrez coupler les appareils, mais il sera ncessaire pour cela d’installer TomTom Mydrive sous Android ou IOS et de crer un compte sur le site de Tomtom.
Au niveau fonctionnement, c’est vraiment du TomTom, tout est fluide, le dmarrage est rapide si vous avez choisi le mode veille et un peu plus long si vous avez choisi l’extinction complte (quand je dis long, c’est 30 35 secondes fix-GPS inclus maxi et pour la carte Europe complte).
Petit regret au sujet des parcours alternatifs, il faut aller les demander aprs coup dans le menu, par dfaut c’est le parcours favori qui est calcul (par dfaut le plus rapide). Du coup il faut attendre nouveau les calculs pour ces alternatives. Rien de nouveau, mais quand l’affichage direct des diffrents choix possibles?
Il reste possible d’installer des POI supplmentaires via Mydrive connect sous Windows et de les intgrer via la connexion BT.
L’cran est trs lumineux (rglable) et la carte est complte avec le trafic et les travaux en temps rel (via BT et smartphone). J’ai utilis beaucoup d’applications GPS sur smartphone, mais chaque fois que j’allume un TomTom, je me dis que il y a un savoir faire, pas de questions se poser, a fonctionne immdiatement, tous est jour en permanence et les commandes tombent sous le sens.
Vous pouvez utiliser le GPS pour tre en tlphone main libre, je n’ai pas test cette fonction mon vhicule tant quip. Vous pouvez galement utiliser Google assistant et Siri sur votre smartphone pour passer des commandes au GPS.
Attention, la fonction commande vocale ne fonctionne que si vous slectionnez une voix de synthse qui lit les noms de rues, parmi les diffrentes voix disponibles, sinon a ne fonctionne pas.
La commande vocale permet de modifier des rglages la voix et bien entendu de chercher des destinations, elle est parfois un peu capricieuse, mais elle permet de crer vos propres commandes vocales.
La version 6 pouces demande un peu de place, la ventouse tient bien sur un pare-brise, mais moyennement sur un tableau de bord ou le recours une pastille autocollante plastique sera ncessaire. Dommage, pas de house fournie pour le transport de l’appareil.
Une bonne version de TomTom avec un grand cran trs lisible.
It really is ‘plug and play’, you take it out of the box, connect to your car’s powers source, fix it to the windscreen or dash and away you go.
The fixing system is really good. You use a vacuum sucker to mount the clamp to the windscreen, and then the actual unit is held in place on the clamp via a strong and positive magnet. No jiggling about, just click.
The power lead goes into the mount, so when you remove the unit there are no trailing cables.
Coverage seems excellent, as you would expect. The screen is really superb, clear and sharp an easy to see clearly.
Recognise addresses and postcodes, and has all the usual options that TomTom have developed over the years and are now so useful. You can search for places near to you, set ‘home’ in permanent memory, answer phone calls via the link and now, even give voice commands as you drive.
You wake the device by voice avctivation, and from there you can issue a variety of commands. It seems to work with any voice too, which is an advantage if you have 3 different drivers as we do!
I am seriously impressed and would recommend to friends and family without hesitation.
I’ve owned TomTom before so already had an account… I logged in…after setting up WiFi and then just followed the instructions …
It’s really easy to do….
The touchscreen is excellent and I love the voice control….
It took a little while to get my head around the voice command control but it’s great….
You say “Hello TomTom ” and away you go…you can input addresses…go to night colours etc etc …so easy…
It also linked with my phone really easily…
A great deal better than any other TomTom I’ve tried before….
This is a top rate satnav system. WiFi upgradeable with free maps and updates via your phone on the go if needed. Good clear and concise navigational information and the best maps on any system. Has a certain degree of “smartness” that adapts to your driving style and routing. It is as good as Tom Tom has ever made – feature rich
Although this is an ‘essential’ model, it really is pretty much the same, except somewhere I saw this model only has a 6 months speed camera subscription.
There is NO mention of this in the scant instruction, or one the sat-nav. It’s the same useless booklet I have.

The USB cable is too short, but for a fiver you can get a 4 or 5 metre cable on Amazon.
In use the speech recognition is good, my wife has a smaller car and it works better in one, mine often gets it wrong or doesn’t respond at all. Suspect this has newer firmware than my 2 month old version.
Rout planning is pretty good, sometimes when starting out it tells you there is a traffic jam when you are already in it, our town is often gridlocked in the rush hours.
Increasing the text size helps for my ‘blind as a bat at reading distances’ wife. She likes it.
Already in testing it, it has taken her away from one grid-lock nicely.
Big 6″ screen blocks some of the road view in a small car.
Best to get a protective case for it quickly, it’s not easy to hold in smaller hands when getting out of the car.
Searching, we put in a business and it found it easily, my posher model did not. Rats, in fact whilst searching for TRING (the only place called that in Britain) it suggested Arbrothshire. In fact it always fails and offers me places in Scotland, a mere 600 miles away. Will AI take over the world? Not if TomTom makes it.
However, if you’re not keen on voice control, which can be tricky because of either external noises (passengers, radio), but also you need to ensure you have thee correct Newport in Gwent, say, instead of Newport Isle of Wight. I feel this is best done when parked with the hand-brake on, not at 60 mph on a dual carriageway.
If you don’t need these complications, you are probably better going for the very similar TomTom GO Basic 6″, which is cheaper, though with a shorter period of free traffic cameras. The core program and abilities are the same, and they are excellent, so why pay more for something that may only confuse.
Updating by wifi is so much easier than by computer, but it’s not quick, even with a high speed broadband connection, and if you cancel a map update taking an hour to update because you suddenly want to go out, you can end up not having a map installed at all, and have to restart the whole process. Think like Mastermind, once you’ve started you need to finish.
The clarity of the screen is superb, and the magnification of junctions to help you get in the correct lane is very helpful.
So, if you like the bells & whistles, you’ll be very happy with this model; otherwise, go for the 6″ Basic version.
Thus this looks like a good idea especially when I realised it had a magnetic mount with the power connection built in (thus it is very easy and quick to mount and remove from your car to hopefully put criminals off breaking into your car).
Tip: Make sure you remove the plastic foil from the unit rear – missed this for my first drive.
I imagined setup and pairing with my Android phone would be the same but it is not. (I did still manage to get it going, having it synced with my TomTom account (all my locations, routes and home locations) and use it in under 20 minutes of unwrapping it.
Pairing with the mobile had changed and the GO Essential shows a bar-code to scan which the MyDrive app on your phone then uses to configure the Blue-tooth (USB Tethering no longer seems to be required). On the phone then all you have to do is accept the pairing (I am using Android 8).
And this is the only thing I don’t like. The MyDrive app has no option to close it and on the top toolbar of the phone it shows all the time the connection status of your phone with your new SatNav.
For a heavy user this may be okay but I would like an option to completely close it.
As a test I uninstalled the MyDrive app and the pairing still seems to work (so if you hate having the MyDrive app running you may want to try this).
EDIT: If you do remove MyDrive with Android at least the Bluetooth Tethering option must be set to enabled otherwise no live traffic information.
Of course the MyDrive app allows you to send a destination, etc to your SatNav (this can be done from their website also which is what I used to do).
Updating the Maps
My old model required you to link it to your PC but this one has built in WiFi and can do it direct.
However, the complete Europe even with a fast internet connection took over one hour so the SatNav needs to have a power supply when doing this and of course the SatNav in a stationary location in range of your WifI.
The Europe Map is over 8Gb in size and this model has 16Gb of internal storage.
Speed camera updates are pretty quick to install and this model comes with a six month trial.
So to update my one I bought it in the house and plugged it into a USB PowerBank using the MicroUSB socket on the SatNav back (a phone charger or similar should also work).
I guess as PC’s are becoming less popular being able to keep the maps and other features up to date without one is a bonus.
Actually using it as a SatNav it is virtually the same as my old one but you can say to it “Hello TomTom” but I could only get voice commands when all music was off and other passengers stopped talking – tricky 🙂
I have yet to receive a phone call with it but if it fails to work I will update my review.
It shows all my phone contacts okay and works with Google assistant and the iOS equivalent.
I only changed two user settings – I like 24hr clock and audible warning if you go 10% over what it thinks is the correct speed limit for the road (like the maps, not always 100% correct).
Speed camera alerts seem to work and six months of updates included (again via WiFi)
All I need now is to get a case to keep it in when not attached to the dashboard.
EDIT: I don’t think the pre-installed voice “Malcolm” does such a good job as my old one announcing street names as my old one. It has a choice of voices installed but I see no option to download additional voices via WiFi. Perhaps the text to voice chip / processor is not as good in this model?
Spesso i navigatori per auto non sono il massimo in termini di reattivit, hanno mappe non aggiornate (a meno di non aggiornarle a pagamento) e non sono il massimo dell’affidabilit, anche in caso di marche di auto importanti.
Il sistema di navigazione “base” di Mercedes ad esempio fastidioso da impostare e spesso sceglie strade non ottimali. Il confronto con Google maps impietoso. Per non parlare del fatto che non riconosce il nome di una via se si usa il solo cognome (ad esempio non trova via Alighieri, a meno di scrivere via Dante Alighieri).
vero che possibile usare il telefono, ma anche questo ha i suoi svantaggi. Per prima cosa necessario usarlo tenendolo collegato all’alimentazione, ed a giudicare dalla temperatura che raggiunge il mio telefono, non una cosa sana per l’hardware.
Non trascurabile nemmeno il fatto che, a meno di non aver scaricato tutte le mappe necessarie prima, necessaria una connessione dati.
I navigatori poi sono strutturati ed organizzati per essere facilmente utilizzabili e ben visibili in ogni condizione di luce.
La linea TomTom Essential fa parte della gamma media di navigatori della famosa marca ed un prodotto piuttosto ben riuscito.
La versione 6 pollici sicuramente pi visibile e comoda durante la navigazione, mentre quella da 5, pur mantenendo tutte le funzionalit, pi comoda da portare in giro.
Anche la versione pi grande comunque ha dimensioni poco superiori a quelle dello schermo vero e proprio e non particolarmente spesso.
Lo schermo molto bello, sia in termini di luminosit e visibilit che per quello che riguarda il touch che molto reattivo e sensibile a differenza di molti prodotti preinstallati in auto.
Dispone di connessione wi-fi, per l’aggiornamento del software e delle mappe che per inciso gratuito a vita. Questo significa che possibile aggiornarlo anche usando la connessione hotspot del cellulare anche se la prima volta decisamente sconsigliabile: alla prima accensione (a casa) ha richiesto un aggiornamento di poco meno di 9 giga.
La connessione tramite BT al telefono (su cui va installata l’app TomTom mydrive, disponibile per iOs e Android) permette al navigatore di accedere alle informazioni del traffico (particolarmente attendibili anche in zone che non mi sarei aspettato) e di visualizzare le notifiche del telefono.
Durante i miei test ho sperimentato con successo la lettura del messaggio a voce alta, sia di SMS che di messaggi Whatsapp
Discreta la funzione vivavoce, con un volume massimo buono ma non altissimo.
Una cosa che non mi piaciuta, ma magari non ho ancora trovato il modo per configurarlo correttamente, che non visualizza il livello di ricezione del segnale del telefono.
Si vede che il telefono connesso, ma non dato sapere se prende.
Anche il sistema di supporto molto comodo. Il navigatore si aggancia al supporto dotato di ventosa mediante meccanismo magnetico che, sebbene sia molto stabile in marcia, permette di staccare il navigatore e prenderlo in mano per una digitazione o consultazione pi rapidi (per il passeggero ovviamente, non per il guidatore) anche durante la marcia.
Sono presenti le mappe Europa ed il servizio Tutor e Autovelox, quest’ultimo per per soli 6 mesi. Per chi ha voglia di smanettare comunque se ne trovano di aggiornati in rete.
anche compatibile con Siri e Google Now e mediante l’applicazione possibile preorganizzare il proprio percorso ed inviarlo al navigatore nonch condividerlo con altri utenti.
La navigazione eccellente e molto fluida, cos come lo anche il ricalcolo del percorso che praticamente istantaneo.
Personalmente lo trovo un eccellente prodotto dal prezzo pi che adeguato. Se non avete problemi di spazio o di budget, tra le due sceglierei la sei pollici.
Apro la scatola e vedo il navigatore. molto bello dimensioni giuste per vedere la mappa e per non dare fastidio alla guidaguardo la ventosa la controllo ed il sistema di tiraggio ventosa a vite molto buono.
In dotazione viene dato il carica batteria da auto e il cavo MicroUSB, ma non viene dato in dotazione il disco da attaccare al cruscotto da acquistare a parte anche perch a me il cavo non arriva fino al parabrezza.

Appena acceso solita procedura della lingua e nazione e poi bisogna registrarsi sul sito direttamente con il navigatore per poter successivamente fare tramite WI-FI gli aggiornamenti del software, della mappa e degli autovelox e delle voci.
Sull’aggiornamento degli autovelox sono solo per 6 mesi come dice la descrizione del prodotto.
Cmq ci sono siti specializzati (POIGPS.Com), in navigatori, punti di interesse e autovelox gratuiti con avvisi sonori e icone specifiche e per il TomTom e ce ne sono moltissimi.
Aggiornamento di tutti i pacchetti fatto in 1 ora e 10 minuti sono ben circa 9GB di pesantezza.
Trovo in questo TomTom molto comodo il fatto di parlare e dettare la destinazione invece che scriverla, questo molto intelligente ed utile, anche per le donne che hanno le unghie lunghe (mia moglie) e non riesce a digitare bene sul Touch le lettere.
La navigazione e buona, ma non ho trovato la visualizzazione 3D dei palazzi, cosa che il mio sistema IGO integrato nella mia auto esiste ed anche bello da vedere.
L’avanzamento della freccia di posizione attuale sul TOMTOM e bella fluida e scorrevole.
L’interazione con lo Smartphone per la lettura dei messaggi e notifiche funziona ma ho trovato difficolta nel rispondere alle stesse notifiche, non basta rispondere a voce bisogna sempre premere un pulsante per attivare la risposta quindi togliendo l’attenzione alla guida, e per il traffico dobbiamo installare TomTom MyDrive sullo Smartphone e poi collegarlo tramite Bluetooth con il navigatore. Bello anche il Roadtrips, ci permette di raggiungere la destinazione impostando dei punti di interesse durante il tragitto in modo personalizzato(MyDrive) ma ce ne sono anche molte gi studiate alcune in Italia ma la maggior parte in Europa, uno in particolare riporta la riviera ligure dove abito.
Devo ancora studiarlo molto ma in modo di sola visualizzazione mappa omette di dare alcune informazioni. Quali autovelox, e benzinai pi vicini (sar un problema di impostazioni che dovr migliorare)
Anche l’assistente al cambio corsia mi sembra minimale e piccolo a destra dello schermo, avrei preferito come il mio IGO che sia mostrato bello chiaro e in mappa centrale.
L’App funziona sul mio note 8.
Il Traffic si appoggia allo Smartphone collegando il navigatore con il Bluetooth
L ho testato per un po’ di tempo e devo dire che piuttosto reattivo.
Facendo un giro per le strade di Genova, non ho trovato problemi nelle vie, sono tutte segnate bene, non posso dire lo stesso in altre citt ovviamente.
Funziona naturalmente anche come vivavoce e le chiamate possono avvenire semplicemente usando Siri o Google assistent, quindi basta dettare a chi si vuol telefonare o mandare un messaggio
Insomma credo che sia il miglior navigatore sin ora provato e tutto sommato un buon prodotto che reputo nella fascia medio alta tra i navigatori.
Se su questo prodotto dovessi riscontrare delle problematiche in futuro, aggiorner la recensione.
Dopo qualche giorno di utilizzo devo riconoscere che questo nuovo TomTom dimostra che anche i classici navigatori sono andati avanti nella tecnologia, molto pi veloce nel caricamento e decisamente pi reattivo rispetto al TomTom che usavo vent’anni fa. Tester il dispositivo ancora in questi giorni per verificare in maniera approfondita le varie funzioni e l’affidabilit. Su quest’ultimo punto TomTom una garanzia da sempre e le sue mappe sono utilizzate anche da altri costruttori in tutto il mondo. Ovviamente con l’uso degli smartphone pi evoluti ci si chiede se abbia senso con le varie app come Waze, Maps o Google Maps acquistare un navigatore come questo. Secondo me un senso ce l’ha, e se facciamo due conti con i costi degli aggiornamenti e le peformance dei pessimi navigatori presenti in alcune auto pi economiche direi che il Tom Tom Go Essential un acquisto che si ripaga in poco tempo.
