Il lucchetto completamente gommato, il supporto da telaio di facilissima installazione ed utilizzo. Unica “pecca” il peso abbastanza importante, ma piuttosto che perdere la bici, si fa questo sforzo in pi.

    Robusto e ben pensato.

Ottimo lucchetto a U, robusto. Abbastanza lungo per legare telaio e ruota posteriore o a una rastrelliera. Da accompagnare con un altro sistema/catena di sicurezza. Comodo il supporto bici per il trasporto e la chiave con funzione torcia.

Thieves couldn’t cut through it. My other lock was left in two halves next to my bike but this lock was up to the challenge. It was full of cuts when I found it and you could tell that the thieves tried so hard they cut all of the plastic off of this lock but now the actual metal lock. This definitely stands for good quality and I’m super happy I invested in this lock. If I hadn’t, my bike would be stolen by now.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersIt’s sturdy. But it’s a pain to lock. I need to detach the head from the U-lock using the key, put the lock through my bike and the bike rack, put the head back on the lock, then secure it by inserting and turning the key again, and as no feedback is given, I pull on the lock to ensure it really is locked.

Maybe it’s normal for these types of locks but I wish I could just have it lock by attaching the head to the U-lock and have it securely lock itself.

The lock works well and is easy to use. It is though very heavy. This may make it tougher than the lighter alloy locks that are also available (I’m not going to take a hacksaw to it to find out) but it makes it a bit clumbsy when trying to lock it. Also if you’re the sort of person who pays a lot of money for a bike to weigh less, this isn’t the lock for you!

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersThis lock is great value for money, very well constructed and sold secure gold which means nothing shy of an angle grinder will get through this! I trust it will last a long time with proper maintenance especially during winter months. I used ABUS PS88 50ml Lubricating Spray to help keep the dirt and moisture out as soon as I received this lock. Re-applying the professional lock oil every few months to both the deadbolts and key way should keep the operation of the lock as smooth as possible even in the harshest of conditions. Do not use WD40 as it’s not specifically designed to lubricate locks.

I prefer U-locks to cables, they just seem a bit more secure to me. A cable invites a thief to think ‘I could cut that off…’. A big chunk of metal makes them think twice. That’s my reasoning, based on no facts or evidence whatsoever.

This new version has a standard combi lock, which to me looks like a weak point. It’s right in the middle at the bottom of the lock, so in the best position for smashing/forcing. The shackle istelf is claimed to be ‘Ultra hardened for maximum cut and impact resistance’ – but seeing as this is the lowest-grade U-lock Yale make (there are 3 ‘harder’ locks) it makes me wonder how ‘ultra’ it really is.

In use, this is a doddle. The large size makes everything easy with no faffing. I’d like the combi to be bigger (I find it hard to see in poor lighting) but obviously that would compromise the strength.

A nice feature is the rubber coating to stop it scratching your bike.

Overall I would say this is a decent lock for most situations. If I had a bike worth more than 200 I’d be getting one of the better models, but right now this is all I need.

This is a strong and very robust bike lock that might be more at home on a motor bike than on a push bike. I wanted to get a substantial lock for my Brompton, seeing as it’s so lightweight that I had a genuine concern about how easy it could be for someone to make off with it. Weighing in around 1.4kg, this needs to go in my pannier since it’s a bit uncomfortable in my back pack. So why go for something so big? Well – I’ve always been of the opinion that if someone is of a mind to try and take your bike, they’ll do it. All you can di is slow them down. This is going to need a lot of effort and sawing and will draw plenty of attention, so whilst no lock is thief proof – this will certainly make them question the worth of trying to take your pride and joy.

This is just what I needed to keep our Bike safe. I actually use this whilst storing it in our Garage in case of break-ins and I’d recently lost the key to our old D-Lock so this combination version is perfect to prevent something like that happening again.

I was surprised how heavy and sturdy this lock is, it’s a high security level and perfect for what we need it for. Initial set up is easy with setting your chosen combination, it takes seconds then you’re ready to use it. I’d always use Yale, they’re a very trusted brand and all of our padlocks are Yale as they last and they’re the best we’ve tried.

Highly recommended, this feels indestructible but I see they do an even higher level of security one so whatever your needs are then they obviously have it covered, for us this more than brilliant for our usage. Would buy more in future.

This is a very solidly built lock – I would have few doubts about the security it provides and it looks the part so it would be have to be a very confident thief that would even attempt to break or cut it. The LED in one of the keys is a nice touch – although one has to press the switch rather hard to get it to light so I am not sure how long this will last. Four keys allows for some loss over the years. There is a good frame bracket with a positive “twist and lock” action which I like – and the fitting on the lock itself that engages with the frame bracket is adjustable to give some options around mounting.

Downside? At nearly one and half kilos the benefits of paying a vast amount for very lightweight bike (the kind one especially doesn’t want get nicked) are a bit diluted by its weight. I suppose a Mars bar two less a day, or a pint less, to shed a personal kilo or so would be the healthy way of addressing this…

All in all a very high quality lock. No doubts about its capability to secure a bike against (practically all) malefactors.

I got this for my bike and there are lots of positives. It’s 1.2m in length (although you can get a 2.2m version). The cable is very tough and well made. With the two hoops either and you can lock down bikes or anything other items. You don’t get a lock with it so you’ll need to invest in one of those. For around a tenner it’s decent value.

With the two hoops either and you can lock down bikes or anything other items. You don’t get a lock with it so you’ll need to invest in one of those. For around a tenner it’s decent value.

This Yale YUL3C/14/230/1 Maximum Defendor U Bike Lock with Cable is a very solid and heavyweight bike lock. It feels heavy and strong and very secure. It comes with four keys, including one with a light on it, which is always a good idea. This lock will definitely deter any potential bike thieves out there. A great product.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersPROS:
Sold Secure Gold Rated – Independent not-for-profit organisation that rates locks, Gold is the highest standard possible
Comes with 4 keys one with useful micro light
Heavy duty U/D lock with 4 point locking mechanism
Heavy duty steel cable 1200mm long by 10mm diameter with rubberized coating
Enough of a deterrent to make the nasty people move onto another poor soul’s bike rather than struggle to deal with this beast!

    CONS:
It’s super heavy – almost 2kg which is approx the same weight as a red house brick, so not suitable for cyclists unless it will stay attached to the bike rack at the end of your commute.
Other models with similar design and price also feature alarms which are triggered by movement/tampering, but few have the Gold rating at this price point.

    Conclusion:
Better suited to motorcycles – there are other lighter solutions out there with comparable security ratings and similar money that would be better for cyclists

This is an excellent value lock – for the price, getting the very solid U-lock and cable is an excellent buy.The U is heavy, solid, and a good size, ideal for securing the bike.
The cable loop also has a decent heft to it.

The clip to connect to the bike was painless (and I’ve had other locks in similar range which provided no way to connect to bike) – a couple of different sizes of screw makes it very easy to secure to one of the bike tubes.

All in all, an excellent deterrent to bike thieves at a great price- highly recommended.

I liked this combination of U-lock and cable, which I need as the front wheel axle has a quick release lever.

In the kit you get a holder to put around the frame into which you secure the U-lock with a twist. You need to push a lever to release it, so it shouldn’t fly out it you over a bump. All parts are plastic dipped to reduce chance of chipping the paint.

The main key has a small LED which handy to unlock the bike in the dark. I like that the keyway in the lock has a sliding plastic cover to protect from rain. The three spare keys plus code you can keep in a safe place.

The cable is pretty chunky, so should resist casual attempts at cutting, with large loops at each end pass through the U-lock. All in all, this looks like a good set to secure a cycle when out shopping, left in bike-shed at work etc.

Having had my “station bike” the subject of a theft earlier this year when the cable lock was cut, it was time to upgrade the security. I’d always assumed my deliberately low key, relatively low value station bike would avoid the interest of the thieves, but alas no. This yale lock has been doing the business in keeping it safe since.

Pretty much what you’d expect from a U-lock. Very sturdy, good quality locking mechanism, and extra cable extension that you can loop around the wheels/saddle etc. As with all U locks, depending what you are locking to, and where it is relative to the bike frame, it can be tricky finding enough space to get the shackle in place, but it’s an inconvenience worth putting up with (IMHO) if it means you return to find your bike where you left it!

    Very pleased with this lock….
Just got a new bike for Christmas, and was looking at ways of securing it. The rigid ‘U’ shaped lock seems to be the most popular method around.
This one certainly feels top quality, and it is weighty too. With a multi point locking system, and 4 keys, a soft plastic covering all round (to protect the paintwork) and a lifetime guarantee I’m guessing it will last a good while.
It comes with 4 keys, one of which has a tiny LED light to help you find your keyhole in the dark.
Great! Such a simple idea but so useful.
The frame fixing can be used in a variety of positions on the bike, but I’m guessing that most people will fix it to the seat down tube, as I did.
The fixing clamp is good and solid, with two lengths of fixing bolts to account for thicker frames. My bike is a Schwinn and I used the shorter bolts.
Once the clamp is fixed you loosen the fixing clip and rotate it into position. Then you just insert the clip into the clamp, rotate and it clicks into place.
Push the orange button and rotate the opposite way to remove it.
The key unlocks the whole fixing bar – some cheaper ones I have had have been hinged – which can make it awkward to fit round some fixing places.
It works perfectly for me, and lets me clamp the frame of my bike to the local bike parking bars.
If it lastsas long as it feels as though it will I will be very pleased.

This lock has a very strong steel loop and a heavy clasp – it looks like it would withstand quite a bit of force before giving up. It comes with a bicycle frame mount, so you can easily carry it around with you. When the lock is open, you can twist one of the end-pieces to reset the combination to any 4-digit code that you want.

Yale is a well-known security brand in the UK, and this looks pretty sound.

The police recommend using U shaped locks and tying both wheels together. This product allows you to do both. The idea is to secure one wheel (and frame) to a bolted feature, and then pass the cable through the other wheel. Both the U lock and the cable are strong enough to defeat standard bolt cutters, so unless you are unlucky enough to come across very well equipped thieves, you should be alright. Mind though the fact that this combo bolt is quite heavy to carry around in a backpack and possibly too clunky to wear on the bike all the time.

There are cheaper no-name U locks out there, but with a product like this, it pays to stick with a brand name. Like all U locks, the downside is the weight, and this pretty heavy. However that is a necessary consequence of its effectiveness. The frame mount is a little fiddly, but I’d be more like to carry the lock in a pannier anyway. It is rubber coated to avoid damage to your frame. It is simple to lock and release. The shackle is long enough to secure your frame to a post without difficulty. A very worthwhile purchase if you need to secure your bike.

For some reason I wasn’t expecting this lock to be so heavy – but it is! Part of me is reassured by the weight of it, the other part of me ponders the extra weight it adds to my bike. I always used to call these ‘D-Locks’ as opposed to ‘U-Locks’, but I think the terms are interchangeable.

This is a solid item, that’s for sure. It inspires confidence that it will (if used correctly) prevent opportunistic tea-leaves making off with your bike, and even those that are more motivated will have to have some pretty heavy-duty cutting tools to get through it (or whatever you’ve attached it do). There is a model of higher security-grading than this one, which appears to have a four-point locking mechanism instead of this model’s two-point mechanism. I don’t know the statistics behind what part of a bike lock is attached by would-be thieves – whether it’s the lock itself or the U-section, or even the frame you’ve attached it to.

The mount that you attach to your bike in order to affix the lock is fairly decent but a bit clunky and I wonder if it could have been made more simple. They recommend three different locations on the typical bike frame, but depending on the frame of your bike in question you might be restricted as to where you can put it. I do like that there are rubberised sections for the parts that are most likely to come into contact with you bike, so that reduces the likelihood of you scratching it. The full U section is metal though, with no rubberised areas.

The lock comes with 4x keys – although only 1 of them has an inbuilt LED light (which itself is a bit flickery and intermittent) – so are presumably just for emergency or to keep in a drawer. The lock itself has a little cover that helps to keep the weather out – which is thoughtful. The mechanism for this is very simple so shouldn’t go wrong.

Overall, it’s a reassuring and sturdy lock. I don’t know whether it’s worth spending any more for the 4-point locking ‘Max’ grade model above this, or if this one will suffice. At 1.2kg in weight it’s already pretty heavy, so this will need factoring in.

My review is for the U-lock, not the combination lock and chain. A really good solid locking unit from a reliable name rather that a generic product from an unknown manufacturer. It’s heavy too, suggesting that the metal is not something to cut through easily and I liked the plastic covering to protect parts of the bike (or what ever else is being secured). A rather generous four keys come with the lock, one has a small but bright LED light to locate the keyhole in the dark (there is no indication about replacing a used battery). Like other reviewers I found it slightly awkward to release the lock from a bike frame though I can’t think of an alternative solution to this.

The price is reasonable when considering it’s protecting something that probably cost several hundreds pounds.

I’ve received the U-lock (no cable) and it is a monster. This is almost 2kg of U-lock and it shows. It’s very solid and should anyone have a go at trying to get it off, good luck to them. They’re going to be awhile.

The mount to the post of the bike could use a little bit more thought in how to make it easier to place, but other than that I’m really happy with a security lock that isn’t going to be snipped or pried off easily.

This seems like a reasonably robust D lock. It is a little unusual in using a combination rather than key lock.
you can change the combination, but the included instructions on how to do so are wrong (doing it is simpler: take the D-loop out of the lock, turn the grey rubber end through 90degrees, turn the combination to your preferred setting then twist the rubber end back again). ANother thing not explained, is that onec the correct combination is dialled, you need to slide the knob with the yellow yale sybol on it to allow the D loop to be removed.
This is an inexpensive lock, so suspect it is not particularly secured

This thing is heavy! So big and hefty it would maybe do for a motorbike. It is a big U lock with a slightly fiddly clip that attaches to the bike. The key hole is well hidden and even when you find it, it looks like a screw head. I suppose I cannot tell how good this lock is until someone tries to steal my bike but the look of it is surely a deterrent and any thief would have to come exceptionally well equipped to get away with the bike with this lock on.

This is a combined U-lock and cable lock for securing a bicycle. The idea is that you use the U-lock to secure the frame and rear wheel to a fixed object, and then loop the cable through other things you want to secure, such as the front wheel or a helmet. The U-lock can be used on its own, but the cable has loops at the ends which are designed to be threaded onto the U-lock, so it can’t be used without either the U-lock or another lock, such as a strong padlock.

Both U-lock and cable are sturdy and confidence-inspiring. The cable looks like braided steel inside a tough flexible plastic sheath, and is supplied with a velcro strap to secure it when not in use. The U-lock has a hardened steel shackle 13mm in diameter, which is 23 cm long and 11 cm wide, which should be adequate to secure most bikes to lamp-posts and bike racks.

A very generous 4 keys are supplied, one of which has an LED light to help with finding the keyhole. A simple mounting bracket is also included which allows the U-lock to be attached to the frame of a bicycle for transport – this is small enough to give a lot of choice as to where it can be mounted. The weight of the complete package is around 1.5 kilos, which is pretty reasonable for something this secure. The lock has been independently tested by Sold Secure, and has a Silver rating, the second highest they award – it won’t withstand determined attack by a criminal armed with power tools, but it will effectively deter any casual thief.

This is a really good bicycle lock – not perhaps good enough for very expensive bikes in high-risk areas, but all the security most people will need. The Yale name inspires confidence, as does the feel of the lock, and the price is very reasonable compared with competing products. Recommended.

The Yale YUL3C/14/230/1 Maximum Defendor (sic) U Bike Lock with Cable really means business. All but a determined theif would look elsewhere for easier pickings.

Saying that it is some weight to tote around on your light weight bike.
If it’s for a scooter or bike then that’s a different story.

Great for home security if you lock your bike in your garage or shed.

The drawbacks apart from the weight is locating the hard to find key slot.
(Tip it goes in the base of the U bar and it looks rather like a screw slot.)

    |All in all.
Great security for a good price well worth the cost but a little on the heavy side for a light weight bike,
BUT you really cannot do better for security for you high priced and much treasured items.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThese U-shaped locks are absolutely the best way to secure a bicycle and I have used one for thirty years. I got this one for my son’s bike and was interested to see how it compares to my old one.

First things first: it does look very secure. The blurb says it has a “four point locking heavy duty crossbar.” Very good.

It also comes with four keys, and a key code in case you lose them all. Overkill! One of the keys has a little LED light, like a car key.

Note that the keyhole looks like a flat screw, and the keys are flat-bladed. Caused a few moments confusion as I figured out how to unlock the thing!

Now a few practicalities. It’s heavy, 1.46kg. A good thing for strength, but if you invested in a very lightweight bike, this might not be something you want to attach to it.

Second, the important thing with these types of lock is to secure the frame (not a wheel) to an immoveable object. This means you want a nice long, wide U which gives you more flexibility when positioning the bike. This U is 230 x 115mm (inside measurement) which is a little smaller than I would prefer, though OK in most circumstances.

One good thing is that the metal of the U has a rubberized sleeve, and an additional piece of rubber at the end of the U. This helps to protect your bike’s tubing from damage.

So far so good. But the one thing I am not so happy about is the clip that attaches the lock to the bike when you are riding. I would say it is over-engineered. There are several parts. A protruding tab is attached to the U and you can rotate this by releasing it with a small hex key (not supplied). This tab fits into another mechanism that attaches to the bike’s tubing. On this is affixed a rotating part whose position you can adjust by removing two screws. Once all attached and tightened, you insert the tab into the mechanism and twist until it clicks. You then have to press a tiny spring-loaded yellow rocker to release it.

It is all a bit fiddly, and I have a hunch that before thirty years is up, the little yellow rocker will have snapped or come off.

Still, there is a “lifetime guarantee”, and the lock is from Yale, perhaps the best-known name in locks, so hopefully they will look after me if necessary.

Overall I am pleased though. A solid piece of work, docked one star for the inconvenient clip-on mechanism.

A serious piece of kit. Not some 2 easy to open bike lock here – built like an armoured tank and definitely something that will deter the casual thief. Have used on my bike and it does seem very effective – will see how it copes with the British winter. Ironically it’s strength is it’s weakness – so heavy to carry in a rucksack. Overall difficult to fault but I will remark at the end of winter to see if it survived – combination lock and all – or if someone nicked it and left my bike behind!!!

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersThis is a heavy weight lock in more ways than one – the whole system weighs 1.74kg, it comes with a 1200mm cable that is 10mm in diameter. From the Yale website, it states the system “Conforms to Sold Secure Gold” (2018).
