It’s the classic game of pandemic. Tricky for the first couple of times, especially setting up the board but once you know it becomes a simple (if not fiddly) task. The game is fun, suitable for all ages and is a great cooperative experience. Lot’s of replay value too as each play is different to the last due to the randomised set ups.
I (31) played this with my parents (58/59) and my kids (9/13).
It’s quite involved, we had the rule book out the entire time but that didn’t detract from the game play.
Overall we all (bar the 9 year old – who gave up within the first 10 minutes!) throughly enjoyed ourselves.
It was a really great Co-Op game that inspired lots of thinking and strategic conversations.
This is my second time buying Pandemic (the first box went AWOL) and its still just as good.
Nice to have a game where everyone works together, and its simple enough to learn that you can be up and running in 10-15 minutes.
Recommend you start with 2 players as the difficulty goes up sharply with larger teams.
Brilliant game, if you don’t have it, get it!
Prepare to lose the first few games!
We’ve been really enjoying playing pandemic, it’s one of those games that you need to play to fully understand.
We worked our way through the different “characters” to get an idea of each ones special moves. Some really are game changers!
I’ve been playing as a duo with my boyfriend mainly but got my sister and her friend playing too at Easter and she has requested more games already! It plays just as well with two players as it does with more.
Great game, we really enjoy i
Absolutely fantastic game. It is a bit slow going on your first few playthroughs as you’ll be checking the rule book and be playing different roles each time with different skills to remeber.
But this is a great game once you get your head round it. Really good co-op makes you work together and talk through your plan. The different roles all bring something useful so everyone has an impact on the game.
It’s not an easy win but you are able to adjust the difficultly as you go by shuffling more or less Epidemic cards into the deck. But makes winning feel even more of an accomplishment.
Board, cards and pieces are all good quality.
What makes this one special is that it is a collaborative game where the players must work together. It took about 15 minutes to figure the rules out and we had the hang of it by the second game. Although there is some randomness to the game it could get a bit samey after the first few games and the same strategy has allowed us to win the last few games.
I used to play the MMO between Wrath and Warlords; haven’t played it since.
I’ve never play the pandemic game, but I saw this and for nostalgia I had to buy it.
I wasn’t disappointed. My friend and I (who used to play the MMO game) have had lots of fun playing it.
The rules are easy, but some of the fiber points, including how some cards and their abilities work can be confusing; there is a page at the back which helps with most of these additional rules, but sometimes it feels like there may be a grey area. Hopefully they’ll release further guidance; but sometimes you have to really read the card several times to get an understanding.
Definitely doesn’t impede the enjoyment of the game; fantastic to play solo; I would definitely recommend
I bought this for my partner and myself to play over the Christmas break. I thought it was a good choice as it was on topic with what’s currently going on around the world.
We found that the games can go on a bit longer than the recommended play time of 45 minutes.
Out of a handful of attempts, we have only “won” the game twice. We found that you need a certain amount of luck with the cards that come out.
One of the character cards is really helpful, the Scientist. This character allows you to cure an infection with just 4 Player cards (instead of 5) which helped us win the game by quite a bit. A maximum hand of only 7 cards means you have to keep discarding Player cards that you don’t want or need. However, because you are relying/hoping on what the next cards are that come out, you can end up unintentionally throwing out a lot of Player cards into the discard pile. One of our games actually ended in this fashion.
I have heard that some people decide to play a 2 player game with 4 characters which I think would make the game a lot easier. We might try that sometime.
My partner finds the game a bit stressful whereas I like the challenge of the difficulty that the game offers. It is rewarding when you do actually win though.
I agree with a lot of reviews that say it’s a game that could teach young people lots of board game skills, such as strategy and balancing priorities.
Overall, I’m pleased that I bought the game. Definitely one to have in the collection.
Adds some new, interesting dimensions to the game which we have enjoyed. Effectively this is several expansions in one as there are a range of new game playing options in the box. Added another layer of interest /complexity to a game which we already loved playing.
Oh my god, this game! I got it for my partner for Christmas and we played it most of the evenings since! Because it’s a cooperative game and we don’t compete against each other we thought it wouldn’t be as fun, but we were so wrong! The game is so addictive and exceeded all of our expectations. The rules might seem complicated at first and you might not feel like reading the lengthy instructions, but trust me, it’s worth it. Once you start playing it all comes together and creates a smooth logical game. I’d recommend watching a YouTube video if you’ve no patience for instructions (we did both). It’s definitely one of my favourite board games so far (and I played a few!).
I absolutely adore this game. The mechanics are really well balanced and because of the constant addition of new elements and mechanics the game remains fresh and exciting. Nothing better than being able to open a new box or a new door in the dossier.
Beyond that the game itself is great, its a true co op experience in which everyone feels like they have a valuable role and are able to contribute, even if stronger personalities are playing. We’ve had lots of discussions trying to figure out what the best strategies are, only for an epidemic card to be pulled and everything having to change.
Best game I’ve ever had the pleasure of playing and worth every cent.
It’s very complicated but once you get the rule, it’s great game for building a team work!!
The game that got us through Lockdown 3. This is amazing and the narrative is full of surprises. We were genuinely sad when we got to the end and had to say goodbye to what felt like old friends. Try playing this like normal Pandemic a few times so you get the way the game works then go for it. Board game meets bio-thriller, fantastic.
Great game, full of cooperation. Lots of variables to consider, so it took a few games to get the hang of it (I’d suggest removing the epidemic cards from the trial runs as this will help you get up to speed!). Very enjoyable when you know what to do.
We have started learning and playing the new roles. Once we have mastered these, we will start on the new events. All OK so far.
One of the first board games I’ve played other than the standard monopoly and things, and really have had a blast. The first night we played a 2 player game and absolutely destroyed it – felt really easy and was a bit concerned I’d wasted my money. But then we played a couple of 3 player games the next day and lost both of them! There is a lot of luck in whether the Old Ones you’ve drawn will mess you up, where the Shoggoths appear, and what clues you pick up. Love the Lovecraftian theme and the board is beautifully designed. Looking forward to more games of this, and will probably pick up the standard Pandemic variant in the near future
A family game with a twist, here you work together to stop pandemic spreading over the globe.
Fun for all the ages, and an amazing way to pass time during an actual pandemic.
Easy to learn, was fun to play during our own pandemic, made us eager to cure the world. Good fun.
Wow, was no expecting that!!! What a brilliant game. Absolute hit with my board game mad family (age 45, 13, 11 and eight). Work together as a team to cure then eradicate four viruses. Visually interesting, interactive and loads of variations; every game is different. Rules are a little tricky to follow at first just because there are so many aspects, but watch some YouTube videos and you’ll get the hang quite quickly. It’s players vs the board. We’re addicted!!
I brought this game over Christmas for my family.
My family usually like board games like this and a favourite in the past has been ‘Scotland Yard’, however they were not the hugest fan of this and got bored easily.
However, I LOVE this game and my only criticism is that it is not 1 player, you need about 3 players to play properly. Who am I supposed to play it with?
This is the first co-operative game I’ve ever played, and despite it’s theme, it’s great fun, with both of us winning or both of us losing. There is an easier version to help you find your feet, before turning up the pressure. (We’ve not tried the hardest level yet).
I was concerned about receive a fake copy so contacted Games Lore, who assured me all their products are genuine, and it is!
Great collaborative game. As other reviewers have said the rules/game play takes a bit of concentration to learn, but once you have put the initial effort in its easy peasy. I suggest sitting down initially and working through each of the steps to understand the game before commencing a real game. The app version is also helpful for learning the game play as it has a training mode.
Highly recommended.
Took a while to learn the rules, but that’s standard for new games. Family all enjoyed it (we are two adults and two teens) and we enjoyed working out strategies and won on our third try. Also enjoyed the fact that you all work together so there are. O arguments over winners and losers. Would recommend. Lasts about an hour usually.
This should be the standard version for families. It shrinks the original pandemic thus making it much faster to play and easier to learn since a couple rules are simplified. For gamers and not, this game is really great.
I like having a quick yet interesting and fun coop to play when we don’t have time for a longer game.
Notes:
– With 2 players the game is almost impossible to lose – but worry not, simply re add one of the epidemics to the deck (dividing the deck into four as in normal pandemic) and it will be much more interesting.
– There’s a free print and play version on the publishers website
– There’s also an official variant to play solitaire controlling three characters, it’s actually quite good.
Just received and still learning how to play but after a few hours as a family, we can see its going to be a great game
Played this over Christmas with the family, took us about 3 goes to fully understand the rules.
Great game for the family once we all understood the rules, even my mum who hates board games enjoyed it.
I would recommend watching a YouTube video for the rules as it explains it better than the instruction leaflet
Coordinating and working together is more fun than the usual Christmas monopoly arguments over deb
Game came with a small dent in the box as it wasnt that well packaged. The game is a lot of fun easy to pick but not easy to win at all… Have played it a fair few times now and only won the once!!
A very interesting game to play. The rules and the roles do take time to master. It is a challenging game to play and different every time.
Nice to play a cooperative board game. Really enjoyed. Helped to play first time with people who had played before, but have got the hang of it and really enjoy. Every game is different based on the cards shuffled. Highly recommend
However due to a real world pandemic we have been unable to start playing this game.
We were impressed that Bogata is the first city visible in the still-wrapped deck. This had become a significant location in our normal games.
I bought this during lockdown as we’d run about of things to say to each other.
What a great game! Really fun to play but takes a little while to grasp the basics but once you’ve had a couple of playthroughs it flows nicely.
It doesn’t take too long to complete win or lose.
Good replayability too, we haven’t got bored of it and we’ve played through it a number of times.
Good quality pieces and board with nice artwork.
Game has been bought as a gift so can’t comment on the contents yet. Package was delivered promptly and looks to be as described 🙂
Although it felt a little pricey when I ordered it, it’s actually a really good game.
It took me a few goes to really wrap my head around the rules but now I’ve got the hang of it and afterall if it was too easy it would get boring.
We have played it quite a lot during Lockdown. The different combinations of roles in play and their special powers and also the different infection scenarios that come up depending on when and where an epidemic hits, it keeps it interesting.
It’s also really nice that you all win together playing cooperatively instead of being against each other. So everyone feels good about saving the world. And if you lose, you lose together and it just makes you want to try again to find the cures or try out different roles.
Some other additions in the box to keep the game feeling fresh, but to me the main selling point is the team vs bio-terrorist. This puts a great spin on the classic coop base game, I’m particularly fond of game mastering or betrayal type games so pitting myself against my usual coop buddies was joyous. One thing to point out though is that, as the bio-terrorist I do feel like the game leans heavily in your favour, if you find this happening then consider acting in more of a game master type role and give the other team a win once in a while, nobody has fun if they are getting stomped 🙂
If you don’t think you’ll get the use out of the bio-terrorist format then perhaps consider the legacy variants (season 1 in particular) in order to shake things up instead.
Co-op games has just added a dimension to sitting around playing with friends and family that I didn’t know existed before Pandemic. It’s always so much fun, even if you lose. Seriously considering the expansion packs.
The special edition won’t allow you to combine it with extensions…
We bought this approriately during COVID lockdown and it gave us hours of fun in addition to the time we spent enjoying the base game. For fans of Pandemic I would highly recommend it. It adds an extra virus that only comes into play when certain events are triggered, extra characters, extra event cards and virilent strain epidemics which add extra rules to how to deal with certiain virueses such as aving to spend 2 action points to remove 1 cube of a certain colour and move. It also provides extra rules to allow for a 5th player and rules to play against a player who can take the role of a bio terrorist. It’s a very well thought out expansion that adds to a great base game.
I am writing this review 5 years after purchase… It is still by far my favourite cooperative board game.
It is a great game and concept of just how fast a virus spreads over the world is quite apt in the current global pandemic of coronavirus!!
The game itself is robust and has withstood 5 years of play and still going strong.
As regular board-gamers we have put protective sleeves on the cards which I would highly recommend as you are going to want to play this game over and over!
Waited a long time for them to re-print the English language version of this expansion, not disappointed. x3 great additional challenges to play alongside the original base game and compatible with the other expansions as well.
Amazing game but a little hard to learn to play. Had to watch a fair few YouTube videos to male sure I was playing it correctly but once I knew what I was doing it is an amazing game
Love this game. Play with my wife 2 player and enjoy it. Nice to play a game where we are working together! Would be great to play with more too. Highly recommend it.
Quality pieces.
The game is really fun. There are a quite number of rules so in the first attempts you will be referencing the rules paper a lot (3 pages). The game is cooperative of everyone against the board. The game is usually fast and not boring at all. It’s a good family game.
One of the best board games ever! It’s difficult for the first time to understand all the rules and moves but it’s a perfect example of team work, we love it!
Bought Pandemic recently and have played it with a few different groups. All have loved it and found it a refreshing change to classic board games such as Monopoly. It’s so well thought out, with all the details and board layout. And given the current COVID-19 situation, people find the game really engaging. Definitely recommend this. Next on the list – Ticket to Ride!
Bought this to play with some friends and it was a success!
Generally people are used to play against each other, so the cooperative nature of the game bring some fresh air to the table. However, it appears this also limits its replay value, as from what I could observe, a session of 1-2 games once in a while was enough to leave people satisfied. So, before spending your money, think on how frequently you are thinking in playing the game.
The game was easy to learn and good quality. We’ve played a few times now and the game is always different each time which is very clever and keeps you on your toes.
Instructions aren’t particularly clear so we resorted to some YouTube videos to explain. After this it was a great game that brings the whole family together in order to “Beat the game” we played 2 adults (50’s) and 2 kids (16 /17)
A bit expensive but so much fun. Good game to play. Makes you use your brain and work as a team. Not like any game we have played. The game can nicely packaged and everything is high quality. I would definitely recommend.
It is not easy to learnt the rules, and even after playing it several times i still need to check the instructions. All playing tokens and cards are of good quality and I like the fact that you are playing in team against the game. It is not suitable for big companies, I’d say 4 -5 people is the optimal size. But OMG, if you are playing at the most complicated level it is not easy to win. The game is real fun. I’d recommend it.
I bought three games at the same time. A quick and easy competitive game, to get people into the idea of getting together to play board-games. A co-operative “pirates” game because it would be exciting and you don’t have to worry about who’s winning or losing. And this, 3rd iteration of the Bestest Game Ever ‘Pandemic’. This was meant to be the alternative to the pirates game and the one we played last once people were used to the idea.
Instead, we played Pandemic Iberia first. All except me new to playing (grown up) board games. Everyone loved it. Non game-players loved it, men loved it, women loved it. Probably even the dog loved it, although I think that was mainly the treats he was passed from the table. Every game session became ‘can we play Iberia’. It was 3 months before we played anything else and 4 before we got to the third game. *Sigh* Ah well, at least they enjoyed them all and I’ve definitely got my money’s-worth from this one.
Don’t buy this until you have finished playing all the other games you want to!
After rocking season 1 my partner and I launched into season 2 and quickly regretted not playing more practice games before starting the legacy thing. It was so tempting with the recon action and covered up maps… It’s similar to the original but kind of backwards, all pretty intuitive if you’re used to these sorts of games. It’s still enjoyable but not as much as winning all the time!
This game is AMAZING. It is worth every penny. My boyfriend suggested we get it to play over christmas and to be honest i wasn’t that bothered about it – but when i started playing it i became hooked!
Seriously – its such an addictive game, it gives you so much back – cool looking board and pieces, you get envelopes to open which have effects and tell you to do stuff, it has stickers that you stick on the board, characters are also really intresting – can’t rave about it enough.
The mechanics of the game are fun. Not enough cubes for the inevitable spread. Nowhere near true to life
This is an excellent game. Bought it for my son’s birthday, just as the Covid 19 pandemic hit us! It’s a really interesting game. Takes a couple of games to get used to the rules, but once you have the hang of it, it’s great. Games are limited in time, because of the number of cards, so you don’t have time to get bored (unlike Monopoly!).
There are lots of scenarios that can play out and the luck of the cards has a very big impact on how the game goes. If the cards fall your way, it’s easy to win (particularly on the lower levels of difficulty), but just when you think you’ve got the game licked, you get a tough run and the game beats you.
I love the collaborative aspect of the game. It’s so different from normal competition and drives a whole different type of conversation (and arguments!).
Thoroughly recommended.
I loved it’s a co-operative game, where everyone works together towards the same goal – to save the world. I bought this for my husband’s birthday. We usually celebrate by doing some outdoor adventures together, due to pandemic this year, I had to be creative to make his day special. The game was really fun, one of my favourite board games so far.
This extension pack enhances the original Pandemic game with new roles, a new virus and a way to make an existing virus even more dangerous. The extra items open up the dynamics of the game making each game a challenge to decide how best to use the combination of people available, each with their own skills. You can also add a fifth player to the mix which although it gives you more skills it does reduce the number of turns each player has before time runs out – an interesting quandary.
Another great advantage of this extension is that you can fit all of the original game into the custom made tray along with all the new items – a one box solution so no space issues in the cupboard!! And don’t forget the petri dishes that are also provided. Simply great. If you have the original game you need to buy this – so order it today!
After playing season 1 I didn’t think I would like season 2 that much. How wrong I was!
The game has slightly changed and we got addicted to season 2 as we were with season 1!
I didn’t think it would be very hard, however it is very hard for two people (my wife and me) even though so far we avoid losing a game by a hairs length!
Definitely best game to play during lockdown 😀
So i have played this game multiple times and only after 5/6 rounds do we fully understand all the rules – a lot of debate re. the rules and misunderstanding. So a lot harder than how we first played it but nevertheless very addictive. Many a day spent playing this is lockdown isolation.
Bit on the nose at the moment, but good fun! We played with 4 (pre-lockdown…I have more time on my hands to do amazon reviews) and worked well, ALOT of tactics involved but makes for good fun, you either all win together or all lose together! Is pricy but worth it, definitely going to buy more versions.
I can’t rate this game highly enough, well thought through in all aspects.
Luck – adding dice to a game speeds it up, but brings too much luck into it, this game has no dice, it does have cards which add randomness, but because of the way revealed cards are periodically returned to the top of the deck, this actually reduces the luck plus adds to the tactics by knowing such-and-such danger card is now back in the top 6? cards, and plan accordingly.
Co-operative – I love the co-operative element in that you either all win, or all lose, so you need to work together, no sulking from the first loser of a game. Either way, it gets you all talking and interacting and suggesting and contradicting, which has to be a good thing as you feel like you’ve really participated.
Pacing – the pacing (especially if you are just learning the game) is excellent, the first couple of rounds you are moping up the virus and accumulating cards thinking ‘this is easy’ we’ll have won in no time, but the game steadily gets harder and harder with the pace set just right in that the final victory/defeat is probably decided by just one last turn either way. It even has a means of adjusting the difficulty according to the players.
Replayability – this is very good, there are several characters with different skills to use, some good some useless for some of the game then essential at certain times. This gives variations in how you play it. Plus the initial distribution of the four infections varies (maybe only three of them are on the board to start?)
There are many expansions to this game but you hardly need them as this has all the fun and skill you need for a roughly 45min game.
The first time we played, I thought it was going to be too hard for my youngest (8 years old), but once we learned the rules it was good. We are still playing the basic version (4 Epidemic cards), but we like it specially because we have to work as a team. My youngest usually doesn’t’t want to play board games because she doesn’t like to loose, but since we all have to collaborate to game, she really likes it and doesn’t complain :).
Really enjoying it. Takes a little to learn but fun and enjoyable when you have. Nice to play collaboratively with friends.
I bought The Game of Life but found it far too unrealistic to be enjoyable. Exchanged it for this and I’m now very satisfied. Beware, there’s an omission in listing. It states this game is unsuitable for under 3 year olds but fails to mention over 70 year olds
This game can change your perception of board games. Instead of competing with your friends, in this game you have to collaborate with your friends to defeat the board, find cures for viruses and save humanity:) Very easy to learn, it does not take too long and it guarantees fun.
This game kept me awake at night. I was convinced it is an unbeatable and somewhat hyperbolic affair. I bloody loved it! We also played it as a family a few times. (Mom, dad, child 11 and child 9). Lots of bickering and crosstalk, not much success, great interaction. After many attempts mom and dad beat the game in 2 player mode, on the final go. A real classic and a must have. I can not recommend it enough.
I’m a total novice with board games, but absolutely loved this! Obviously I’ve played monopoly and mouse trap etc, but this was my first “cooperative board game.”
My advice would be to find a good YouTube video explaining the game first, then read the rules, and have them to hand for the first game. It’s a lot to take on all in one go, but once you get going the gameplay is logical and easy to follow.
Gameplay-wise, the tension can quickly start to mount as the viruses start to spread through the cities and this really brings out the best in relationships with your other players. You really have to communicate and know each other’s strengths and weaknesses.
All I learned about my father from playing Monopoly with him is that he has a great poker face and is even more miserly in a fantasy reality than real life! I also know my mother is a wanton cheat who would really rather the game would hurry up and get finished! Those kind of games, with players pitted against each other, just don’t make for a happy Christmas/get together!
The box and components are sturdy, the instructions are clear, well illustrated and easy to follow and the graphics etc look nice.
Highly recommended!

This is the first board game I’ve ever played where all players are part of the same team, and I found it to be very engaging. It makes you competitive, but as a team, not as an individual, which is ‘refreshing’ and a nice change from the typical board games.
It plays well both in 2 or 4 people, and if playing in 2 we prefer using two characters for each person (to have two special powers instead of one). There are many variants in which the game can be played, so I don’t expect to get bored of it any time soon.
I found the game to be very difficult if you use all 6 epidemic cards, but with more experience you can develop strategies with your team mates and actually win or at least get closer to doing so.
I think that Pandemic is a great choice for every person who enjoys board games of some sort. I totally recommend it, especially as it is a great 2 player game.
We had to watch a youtube video to learn how to play at first but it is fun when you get into it. It’s easier to win with more players.
Arrived on time and as described. A really good intro into strategy games – takes a little while to set up, but once you have the hang of it its great. The players work together to beat the board – so promotes teamwork rather than competition!
If you like basic pandemic and like campaign style games this is well worth it. Problem it is hard to get replay value out of it after completing the campaign, it would be nice if there was some post campaign scenarios or something to use the pieces for after.
The game is super fun but it took us a little while to really understand the rules- maybe we’re just not the most with it people but we had to look at some forums to find out what the answer was- it was only after 5 games of absolute failure we realised we were distributing the infection counters wrong! I would definitely recommend this game though, it’s compelling and such a good game to play if there’s only two of you!
Great board game. It does have its fair share of rules, but once you get the grasp of it, you’ll be rewarded. The variable difficulty and the multiple available roles make each game a bit different, so you won’t be bored of it.
It has rpg elements, strategy, and promotes team play, since it’s you vs the game. And that makes the game a lot more difficult than you think.
Great game… But it gives me anxiety haha.. The pressure to “save mankind” this game is the stuff of my nightmares…. But it’s also great. Hubby is obsessed… And we a R pretty good at it too… Rules took a while to get out heads around, and there are lots of steps per turn so don’t drink haha
My family are suckera for the easy board game, I’m talking monopoly, cluedo etc. So when I brought this to them, I wasn’t expecting much, but to my surpirse they really love it. It’s tricky to win, we haven’t won yet, but the teamwork of trying to achieve a common goal brings everyone together. I normally play the rules guy to keep everyone on top of what’s going on and it pays off. Obviously takes a couple of goes to get into the swing of things but well worth it.
….or we shall surely fall. That, in a nutshell, is what this game is about. Instead of the ‘every man/woman/child
/dog for him/her/itself’ approach of most games, this one requires players to team up, cooperate and (hopefully) win the game together. Or die in the attempt, which tends to happen a lot. Players will find themselves strategising, weighing options and finding ways to deploy individual team members’ skills to best effect.
The basic game itself is great stuff, but there are some expansions as well once you get the hang of the system. There’s even one that allows one player to be the Bond supervillain of their dreams, bringing the joy of bioterrorism to the world.
Well worth the money, and sure to bring many hours of tense play action.
Pandemic is a wonderful game and, unlike most games I play, is a co-operative one too! From two players up, you’re working together to stop four different diseases from reaching pandemic status across the world. It’s not a difficult game to pick up the basics, but playing well takes good strategy and planning, and it’s definitely difficult to master. Highly recommended for all board game fans!
We love Pandemic!
A little hard to get to grips with at first but bear with it – it’s so worth it!
I would definitely recommend watching some YouTube videos to get to grips with the gameplay. My partner and I played a few games together before introducing it to the rest of the family which I would definitely recommend if you don’t want your first time to end in an argument and everyone giving up. Always have the rules and instructions nearby!
The game is for 4 players but you can definitely play with more if you team up. You are all working as a team anyway so it doesn’t affect the gameplay or give anyone an advantage.
Every game is different, with a mixture of strategy and chance there’s no way to become “too good” and bored with the game. We got this over a year ago now and still love it, and that’s with only playing the easiest version of the game so it’s definitely worth the investment!
We really enjoyed playing Pandemic, although we haven’t yet managed to win a game! Despite this frustratation we are still enjoying ourselves and hopefully we’ll get some luck with the cards and also our strategy techniques!
We play as a two and it works well although I think this game would be better with 4 – mostly because it’s hard and the more brains the better.
I love that we work together to beat the board. I think this would be great for young adults or teens – you really do have to work together, explain why you want to make X move etc. We have occasionally got heated about what we should or shouldn’t do!
I really haven’t looked at board games outside the standard family stalwarts of monopoly, cluedo, mouse trap, etc, but thought let’s look at something new… It brought me to Pandemic and once it arrived we’re blown away by it! A little complicated from the outside, but ready to start and figure out as you go along and becomes addictive. Excellent game, great premise lots of strategy and replay value too. The only warning I have, is I bought this from Amazon and the seller is Amazon but the product is riddled with “mistakes” and generally iffy attention to detail, similar to what others have found on these reviews and either these are counterfeit products, or Z Man has let their quality control department all go on annual leave at the same time..? Although these messy issues haven’t detracted from the game in any way and in fact there are no parts missing, or anything of that nature, and the game itself gets 5 stars, I think Amazon needs to look at it’s supply and if it’s counterfeit they should do something about it other than charging customers the same price as a quality version!
This is an excellent game and makes a nice change from other games where you play against each other. This really can get very tense at moments and forces you to think a couple of moves ahead. Team this with the Pandemic playlist on Spotify and it helps set the mood.
The game takes a while to setup and a bit of getting used to but once that is setup it is easy to play.
This game is GREAT. I have friends who preferred season 1, but to me season 2 did not disappoint — I might even go so far as to say that I enjoyed the story more. If you’re uncertain about the concept of a legacy game… do yourself a favour and try the Pandemic legacy series. To me it is definitely worth the money.
You don’t often get co-op board games, so this is a great way to get everyone playing together without any of the shouting and arguing. The idea is great and it’s really good fun. It does take a lot of time to understand all the rules properly. I think I played 4/5 times before realising that I had some of the rules wrong and had been unknowingly cheating to win. Then again, as it’s co-op your entire team is cheating and no one feels any animosity.
This game Isn’t really what you might traditionally call a wargame but who cares. Its highly compelling and it served as a gateway, luring me into more solitaire wargame madness. Its a war strategy game I suppose. If you know ‘States of Siege’ games I believe it is reminiscent of those.
Its concise, has a small foot print, it’s thematic and has graded difficulty. I love it and the only thing that lets it down are the player pawns. Classic ‘Sorry’ pawns. I replaced mine with my own custom ones. Much better.
Brilliant game. Had heard it was hard. My girlfriend and I won our first game then realised we’d been building research centres without having the correct city card in our hand (essentially playing with the operations guy special power plus the ones we actually had) we corrected this and it absolutely kicked our arses for about 6 games (with 5 epidemic cards) the losses far from putting us off spurred us on, we put it back down to 4 epidemics and won for the first time. We had researcher and scientist which IMO was overpowered. We both absolutely love this game. It doesn’t take long to learn, or play, looks fantastic and the mechanics are great. If you’re into games, especially 2 player. You must buy this. Santorini and illimat are our two other favourites. I think I’m going to buy Robinson Crusoe next and pandemic legacy is gonna be a birthday/Christmas purchase
I had been looking to purchase this game for some time and bought it as used from Amazon, though it looked brand new and was about a third less than full price so was excellent value. The instructions for the game were a little complicated to understand and took a few goes before it became clear what you had to do. Not as exciting for 2 players to play and game play can be quite short as a result.
This is an amazing game and totally addictive. As a legacy game, you make changes to the board, the cards, and the rules throughout the game, so you can only play it once through, but you have the potential to play it 12-24 times before the game is truly over. We played it 14 times over a period of 12 days back to back. Worth every bit of the money. And we have since bought it again to play again before playing season 2. Season 3 is out this year and we are very much looking forward to it. If you like board games, I can’t recommend this highly enough.
