I have used this unit for both stereo and 4 channel recording and it performs very well. Stereo recording with the built-in mics is simple. The 4.channel mode is a bit more complex to set up but also produced excellent results. The external power supply is recommended for lengthy (1 hour or more) sessions as the unit eats batteries.
My podcast interviewing has become easier and cleaner because of this unit. It is costly but to me it’s worth it. It does not come with the wall adapter for charging but I bought one for when I’m recording at home. Batteries are sufficient for most of what I do and I have learned to carry extra batteries.
Once you learn the shortcuts to recording, it’s a snap. Go to YouTube and learn.
Great sound. Really good for live / loud gigs. Way better than my phone. it was easy to learn how to use it, however I’m still just scratching the surface.
I love the recorded sound. User friendly but need to read the owners manual to master.
Love love love this!!! It had made my podcast so much better. I am able to be mobile with it. The only small downside is the display runs the whole time and that kills the batteries but overall that’s not that big of a deal.
The Zoom H4n portable recorder is awesome! It is light weight, easy to use and sounds terrific. All this and this device runs for hours on just 2 AA batteries.
It would have been 5 stars on all fronts but when I was multitracking I couldn’t bring in a file that I had already recorded in a different mode.
This is my top audio recorder for all my videography. Works great, sound records are just as they should. Easy to use. I don’t use any higher than a 32gig memory card for it. Which is a perfect size. Must have this if you plan on doing any videos!
Good sound, slow start up, it’s just handy. I can go on hikes and pack this lightly, to take audio bits here and there for later.
Will be a nice sound box for my boom mics for shoots though.
Je suis un musicien depuis longtemps et j’ai plusieurs groupes. Je fais maintenant de la musique avec une ami, en mode acoustique. Nous chantons tout les deux. Nous avons quelques compositions et des cover, je voulais donc faire des enregistrements de cela. J’avais besoin d’un appareil fiable et simple. J’ai trouv tout ce que je voulais dans le zoom h4n pro. En plus de bien enregistrer en live avec ses micros condensers, cet appareil est merveilleux avec ses entres stro. Je sors directement du mixer et le son est vraiment bon. De plus avec les 4 tracks, je peux jouer la guitare, la basse, le cajon ou Djemb sur 3 tracks et enregistrer notre chant par la suite. Je le recommande fortement.
It’s quite expensive and at this price they should give SD card and data cable. I had to separately buy those and then I could check the product.
Quality is undoubtedly good. Best part is that I can use it as mic too.
DetAiled instructs with a bit of a learning curve to use all the features, but will constructed and great sound quality. SD card is needed, but not included.
Fantastic audio solution for live events. I keep mine in 4 channel recording mode and go film local band’s concerts, this has made itself indespensable.
I have been using Zoom recorders and other products for a while and this one doesn’t disappoint. Good quality, good audio and very versatile

I already owned a H4N in the past and it came with all the accessories (USB cable, power supply, windshield, SD). I was expecting the same with the H4N pro… I have to buy a pack or the power supply for 30 $.
Pretty versatile and portable for field recording. Makes a concise setup for XLR/mic combos and mounting a base plate is easy. Battery life could be better. A USB rechargeable battery pack would be ideal for extended field use.
I have been thinking of getting a Zoom recorder for a long time. But I thought ‘what would I really use it for?’ I use it almost every day. I have a small audio/video studio in my home. I use this recorder as an audio interface. I had no idea I would use it this much…but it is a life-saver! I am a DJ and have a wedding coming up where the bride wants special music that is not on my streaming services or DJ Pools, so using the Zoom as an audio interface works like a charm. I’m just saying it is more than a recorder. The only down-side is that if you want a power supply for it, you have to buy that separately. I know there is the Zoom H6, but this one does exactly what I purchased it for. I am very pleased with it.
Love it. Works perfectly for my small production. Simple to operate and no issues whatsoever.
This is a nice little powerhouse of a recorder with great features for voice recordings, music recordings and other sound recordings. The 2 small diaphragm x-y condenser mics are better than expected as are the pre-amps and guitar effects. I highly recommend this product for any podcaster, musician, sound engineer, teacher, or other content creator.
I originally bought the SONY PCM D100, but sent it back to get this. I think the SnR is comparable and this unit cost a lot less.
I use it for binaural recordings. I use DPA binaural microphones with XLR adapters. Actually, the main reason I sent the SONY back was because it only had a mini stereo input and I had no way of connect my mics to it.
An out dated quality product. I would get a H5 if I have more budget.
Cons:
Start up is a bit slow.
Need mini USB if recording through tablets and phones.
Excellent recorder, heaps of online operating instructions and tips. Very easy to transfer files. Warning- It’s a battery hog, but I purchased an ac adaptor and now I don’t worry about battery power anymore. Clean, professional quality audio and so easy to operate. Great little machine!

I got this to use for my college projects, and it has amazing functions—extremely powerful mic.
Wish the buttons produce a sound captured by the very sensitive Microphone, but is very minimal and easy to edit.
