Working from home full-time, I learned that it gets extremely hot in my upstairs office, so I wanted to get an ergonomic mesh chair. I got a cheap one last year and the wheels started breaking off the base within a couple weeks. This year I went on the hunt for a very nice one, and after reading all the reviews about how sturdy this one is and how adjustable it is, I pulled the trigger and got it.
My only gripe with the entire chair is that I wish the seat was angled slightly higher up (or better, if the angle of the seat was adjustable). It feels just awkward enough that I sometimes feel like maybe the chair is going to tip over, which it won’t, but it’s a bit of an unsettling thought when it happens. I may try adding some kind of riser to correct it, but haven’t started down that path yet.
I weigh 230 lbs and it feels completely sturdy for my weight, and would probably still feel fine at 300 lbs. Very sturdy materials.
It seems that this chair is relatively new but im impressed with it but there are some things to note
1. Assembly is pretty straight forward but you are gonna want to make use of a coffee table/couch to help get a better angle.
2. The instructions in step 7 say loosen the screws for the backrest. It should be REMOVE then reattach with the headrest.
3. The base part that attaches to the bottom cushion has to be screwed in the bottom holes even though there is two others. I’ll attach a picture.
MAYBE THE MOST IMPORTANT ONE
4. The tilt weight tension can only be used when its at the normal 90 degree angle. If you locked it in place with a recline and cant figure out how to unlock it. Lean back in the chair with weight and then try to flip the switch. It should unlock the recline and go back to 90
degrees. IF YOU PUT NO WEIGHT ON THE BACK IT WILL STAY RECLINED LOCKED.
Quality wise i will say everything is made out of a metal or hard plastic so there are no worries with plastic breaking that i see.
The armrest are pretty comfortable on the skin, its a very smooth plastic that is heavily dense. Didn’t think i would like it and have to buy plush cushions but i don’t think i will.
Lumbar support is way better than old chair and you can really feel it.
Lastly this chair is really customizable in terms of finding the right fit. I would suggest playing around with it to see what works for you.
Has much has I want an fully loaded Herman Miller Aeron, I have settled for the Admiral by Realm of Thrones.
At first use it’s comfortable but will need some little adjustments before I’m in the zone.
The frame is mostly plastic with metal parts where needed, like the gas cylinder, bolts and seat under frame. The coverage is of some type of elastic fabric mesh with some sort of foam covered arm rests.
The base is made from tough plastic with five standard plastic casters that have a steel pin that push fits into the base.
Was it worth the asking price considering its mostly of plastic construction ?
It all depends on how long it will last before it becomes unusable and only time will tell. If it lasts over 5 years then it was worth the price I paid.
I have quite a wide butt and have a weight in the region of 17 stone and sitting in the chair at the moment is comfortable and its not bottomed out, but its new so only time will tell has the fabric becomes stretched with use.
The armrest design is excellent and makes uses handheld devices great but again only time will tell how long the coverage lasts until its worn through.
I finally decided to replace my very ordinary office chair that I had used for years in my home office. I had used it with a ‘McKenzie pad’ to give me lumbar support, and I was looking for a chair that would have similar support, as I am prone to getting back pain if the chair is not right.
The Admiral chair arrives very well packed in a double box. Quite heavy! Putting it together was fairly straightforward, and took me about half an hour. It us useful (but not essential) to have a second person when putting the top and bottom parts together.
I have used it for a couple of weeks now, and I really love it. Everything is adjustable, so you can get it really comfortable. The lumbar support is just right for me, and hits the spot. The arm rests are also great, as I can tern them in to fit the desk I have in my home office which has side parts. Also pointin them in looks a bit strange, but that is the way your arms go when you are typing!
In all, not cheap but nowhere near as expensive as some I could name, and more comfortable. This is a well put together substantial item. Recommended.
Was very impressed by the way this was packed, very secure and high quality. If the chair meets or surpasses this standard then it will have been a very good purchase. Did a lot of digging before buying this chair and on initial impression I made the right choice. Set up was easy and is very sturdy/comfortable too. Thanks
I spent months researching to find the right chair for comfort and support. This chair absolutely fits the brief. Excellent quality
I cannot emphasise enough how good quality the chair is. There is cheaper chairs available but speaking from experience none will match the quality of this chair.
All the main connection points ie arms to chair base are made of metal. It feels really sturdy whilst at the same time very comfortable.
Assembling is really a two-person job – the chair is pretty heavy and it is especially difficult to fit the upper and lower parts together.
It is very well packed, which gives you confidence that the product is going to be good .
It was tricky to find the instructions but they were buried in one of the protective bags.
Putting it together was very simple, much appreciated! Needed a little help holding the back to get the seat connected but otherwise no problems.
One recommendation is to tell us how tight to screw in the bolts, it wasn’t easy to know when to stop!
Sitting comfort is exceptional, I don’t have a huge experience across these sorts of chairs but they beat any at my work!
Adjustability is also very high and a big selling point, it makes a difference that things click into place solidly.
9.5/10 worth the extra money if you can stretch to it. Half a point docked for the cost.
One dimension is that the arm rests don’t quite go low enough for me to be able to comfortably rest my elbows on them without feeling like I am having to slightly shrug my shoulders.
The other dimension is that the lumbar support is a bit too low on my back, even with the seat back raised to full height it sits a little too low on my back to be truly comfortable and supportive, this has more of a knock on effect with it also making it feel like the actual seat cannot slide forward enough to compensate.
Other than these issues the mesh is really nice and the very flexible arm rests are a nice touch too. Overall a great chair for someone slightly smaller than me.
We recently bought this chair and when we assembled it one of the arm rests was broken. We emailed the team and they couldn’t have been nicer or made it simpler for us. They were very apologetic and after confirming which part was faulty with us sent out a replacement the same day. We would be very comfortable ordering from this company again. Thank you for the excellent customer service.
In terms of the chair. It’s comfortable and we’re very happy with it. We especially like that the arm rests pivot. We’re trying trying see if there is a setting that stops the head rest and back from going backwards when you lean back but having figured this out just yet.
Love that I can adjust just about everything on the chair! Super comfy and enjoying it so far (3 days in)!!
Very nice chair. The seller’s service is also very good. Recommend.
About the Admiral chair itself, there have been seven computer chairs at my desk in the last 12 years and none of them even came close to the Admiral for having these attributes:
1) Well designed.
2) Well built.
3) Truly ergonomic.
4) Truly comfortable.
5) Truly user friendly.
6) Truly good-looking.
7) Truly value for money.
I suffer from chronic back pain and I am at present waiting to see a consultant with a view to probable further surgery. The lumbar support on the Admiral is perfect for my back. I’m so pleased to have found the Admiral chair. (Not only is it a nice computer chair; it’s a nice piece of furniture!) I consider its purchase to be money well spent.
You can spend less than 100 or 1500 for something that on the surface looks the same, seems to have the same specs.
This chair ticked all my needs, its totally adjustable, really comfortable, mesh all round the botty is cool and non sweaty.
The only question is, is it value for money, could I have spent less and got a similar product? who the heck knows. I have used a few Herma Miller’s in the past so can compare the quality and this chair and it is not that standard, or even close. However its much better than some of the really cheap ones I tried.
A good middle ground choice, happy with it. Shame I was not allowed the Orange one, I got vetoed by “Housekeeping”
I got the grey chair and after putting it together (which is easy to do) the chair looks really great. It is really well built, the mesh is good quality and even though large it does not look bulky and fits quite well in any small spaces. I’m 6″3′ with long legs and torso and so this chair didn’t quite work out for my height, but I soooo wish it did because I liked it very much. I don’t want to take away any points from it because this chair has a lot to offer even if it didn’t work out for me. I am convinced that for the right height and body type, this chair has the good quality and adjusting options to provide the comfort and support needed from an office chair. The customer service is excellent with speedy communication and always positive to find solutions, share tips and be as helpful as they could be.
The chair is very heavy and sturdy. It will be a challenge to assemble it as a one person job so better to get some help.
I was skeptical of this lumbar support design since it looked a bit over-arched from the photo. However turns out it greatly exceeded my expectations. This is hands down the best lumbar support ever. The weight adjustable inclined back is also a godsend. I sit in front of my computer 12 hours a day for 5 days a week and used to have minor back pain with my previous chair, but I literally feel nothing after sitting in this chair all day long. If you want a healthy back, this is the chair for you.
Lastly a minor complain is that one of the arm rest arrived scratched, but the seller immediately offered to ship a replacement so it was all good (which I rejected due to environmental reasons).
If you are not sure because of the price, just place an order and I am sure you will be more than happy to keep it. I am glad to pay any cost for my back’s happiness!
The lumbar support is firm enough, but not rigid to the point where it could get uncomfortable after a while. Although the arm rests cannot be slid forward, the fact that you can move them on many other angles makes up for that.
The fact that the seat, backrest and headrest are all mesh, makes it amazing value for money.
