I’ve tried a couple of these mics. Had to send them back for poor performance. I tried this one and am very happy. It’s super clear and sensitive. For the price, it would be hard to beat. Well made, all metal and easy to use. Highly recommend it.
This was a birthday present to go with the microphone arm which I also bought.
After a little bit of readjusting and with the help of his dad my son got this just right and is perfectly happy with his microphone.

I got this on sale for $79 and couldn’t be happier for the price. After I added some acoustic treatment to my room, the vocals were even easier to EQ and bring to the front of my mixes. I prefer my Shure SM7B for certain types of heavier music and podcasting/spoken word, but this is great if you cannot afford that mic.
First off, I do voiceovers and voiceacting as a second job. The one thing that seemed to be impacting the quality of work I was landing was the noisiness of my recording setup. While I use a very good USB, the AudioTechnica ATR2020, every fan my workstation used was in the background. I created a custom recording booth lined with sound proofing tiles and a cover, still heard all the noise. Switch to a laptop to see if the problem was ambient sound or mic sound – boom, it was the digital sound through the mic. Once I did a lot of testing, I decided to try an xlr with an xlr to usb input. I tried a couple, wasn’t happy with the vocal tones or the noise levels, then I took a chance on this one since it was on sale and under my budget limit. With this and the Neewer xlr to usb converter, it worked perfectly. Barring me forgetting to turn on the xlr converter – powered, by the way – I’ve had no problems with it. The sound quality goes well with my alto voice and despite living off a busy main street, the directionality is perfect at keeping noises outside the house off my recording. I use an Altron pop filter enclosure to keep things as silent as possible and have been very happy with the overall vo results. And so have my clients because bookings are the real metric for me. Less auditions + better clients = win. You still need to know how to clean your noise levels but all in all, just a fantastic mic for midlevel vo actors or podcasters.
For the price, this mic is well built. The sound quality suits me perfectly for recording vocals and acoustic guitar. The heavy duty screw in mic clip, is something that I wasn’t expecting. I did end end purchasing a shock mount shortly after getting the mic. Not that I will necessarily benefit from it, just hoping to eliminate a few sounds produced from banging the microphone arm or ikea desk everything is clamped to.
I have had this mic for a while now, and really enjoy the recordings I am getting from it with my acoustic guitar and spoken word. I do have an SM57 which I love for recording electric guitar and which does work well for acoustic, but sometimes the AKG P120 just sounds better (YMMV). Excellent quality!

I had recently bought a Behringer C3 and compared it to this AKG as soon as I got it. There really was no comparison. The sound just got noisier as you switched to the figure 8 or omni-directional settings on the C3. The AKG was clear as a bell, and I was amazed how transparent the sound is. This AKG is not too expensive, but a big improvement over the Shure SM-57 microphones I had been using. Get two!
Use for recording studio, upgraded from cheaper model. It makes the most difference when your raw input signal is the best it can be. Vocal, and guitar use, even in high spl massive overdriven application performs well above its pay grade. Unlike the cheaper model, you will need a pop filter, and the tv down the hall muted ;).
Highly recommend AKG
This Microphone Is Awesome!! I Have No Complaints, I’m Completely Satisfied With It For Those Who’re Willing To Buy This… Trust Me You’re Gonna Love It.
I have Connected With A Xlr Cable Which I Made But Its Not Working With That So,What Type Of Xlr Cable Should I Use In This?
New to Audio impressed by the AKG products and I am well pleased with my choice.

For the price, this thing is an absolute bargain. Brilliant for vocals and acoustic guitar. I would recommend pairing with the AKG P170 in stereo for recording acoustic guitars.
Decent product, i did my research before buying it and yeah its a nice mic.

It came with a lovely case for easy storage and transportation…sound quality is lovely and we’re very happy with it. We use it for making audio voiceovers with my wife and it does a great job
I love it. AKG is a brilliant make a feel like i can use this forever, this is great thank you
Best mic I’ve ever had. Though it’s my first condenser mic. Wonder where it had been all my life. Great price

The first order gave me a faulty microphone, which made me scared.
When I returned it, they gave a new one, without charging any extra cost, and that works perfect!!
Definitely worth buying, great sound quality for the price range
I use this mike to demo songs on ableton live 9 lite. It does a really good job of recording acoustic guitars and electric guitars and also my vocals. Keeps a tight sound around the recording area and the recording quality is excellent. Can’t fault it really.
gud for singers but be sure you have gud qwality of xlr cables and interface 48 volt phantom this mic requires some amount of gain heavy and look osm but it has lower qwality than other mic because it has small diaphram so if you are professiin go for 1 inch diaphram mic like rode nt1 or nt2
Used a few times now, for me, how I sound without a mic this mic captures it and adds a little bit more warmth… Dope mic, dope price.
excellent microphone for this price range. Good one if u want to set up a home studio with out compromising quality and if ur on a budget. I bought this together with a scarlet 2i2 solo. I got this mic for around 6999 and scarlet solo for 9799. Wait for festive season if u want to grab great deals !
All is well and I have been using it for vocal dubbing. It works great only if you have a good XLR cable and Audio Int. Otherwise it will create more hissing… product is good but packaging looked like it was a used product. I don’t mind using it but it was very poorly packed and handled by delivery agent.
Bit heavy, but it’s amazing and I love it. Great sound quality and no background noise.
This is a great microphone, very well made, solid quality piece of kit, , but you will need a very quiet room!
I have found that it will pick up sounds that are the other side of the room nearly as loudly as your voice which is right next to it, so you will need a very quiet room.
I have to make sure all the windows are closed. When I first got it, I thought it was very noisy and was going to return it, then I realised I had my fan on in the room to keep me cool and when I turned that off, it was silent!
I use it with a Soundcraft mixer with phantom power and my own XLR cable. I must say, it should really come with a cable, my cable is a bit noisy when I move it, probably because its much older than the microphone.
Quality of build is good, but you will need a POP filter to go with it, if you are using it for voice.
Other thing of note, its quite heavy, I use it with a boom arm microphone stand, and the stand keeps dropping, even when tightened up fully, so I have had to counterbalance it.
What’s sheerness? I thought that was a in the UK?
I just received the package today (7 Sep. 2020) and tested the product immediately. The microphone sounds crispy and warm. It sounds very natural to the ears. It is well built and the product is really sturdy – not made of cheap plastic. However, keep in mind that it is quite heavy (keep this in mind if you are using a cheap boom mic stand).
Now coming to the package i was so shocked and disappointed to find out that such an expensive item came without any proper protective coating. It was just packed with a think layer of its own cover and amazon sticker on it. And to my bigger dismay, I found out the package was already opened – meaning not a sealed pack.
I was immediately skeptical about it and checked it immediately. But it seems to be working perfectly which is why I decided to keep it and not returned.
It is my humble request to sellers: please pack any expensive and delicate items at least with some sort of foam or hard coating so that it’s not damaged while it’s being shipped. Because if the product gets damaged or scratched (which is no fault of the customer) we the innocent customers have to go through a hell hassle to request for a return or replacement or whatever.
Pros: 1.Onboard switch option for a bass roll-off switch and 20dB pad add to this mic’s versatility
2. Good for both vocal and instruments.
Conclusion: This is a really good mic for those who are just starting out and also for those who are mid-range voice-over artists or singers. Voice sounds very natural and crispy.

A different sound to the RodeNT1, vocals and acoustic guitar very good
I bought two of these for use, mainly as overheads.
There doesn’t seem to be much in terms of reviews for these online but I took a chance and am very happy. Everything about these mics is quality.
The sound is unbelievably clear but not too harsh.
These not only record drums at full tilt but are able to capture all the nuances when using brushes and recording percussion.
They have a smooth top end and provide plenty of bass.
The 3 way polar pattern switch is a bonus at this price range as well as is the shock mount and useful case.
Sound is beautiful and the mic arrived very fast in the post.
Sound is beautiful and the mic arrived very fast in the post.
Very good quality of captation, low noise level. I recommend.
Having owned a Rode NT1 which was about a hundred pounds dearer I wasn’t expecting this one to be at the same level, having said that, all of my headphones (I have 3 sets) are AKG so I knew this mic was going to be good, I just didn’t expect it to be better than the Rode.
The Mic comes in a nice handy carry-case with Aluminium edges and corners, the shock mount is all metal construction and comes with a thread adapter, the mic is about as heavy as the NT1, all metal body and a very firm mesh grill. The -20db switch is in my opinion a bit too much, -10db would have been sufficient but that is my only reservation. The High pass (low cut) switch is really effective and you ‘can’ hear the difference.
The sound quality is excellent with no discernible self-noise, without the Low cut switch it has a nice warm sound and you can hear the lower frequencies coming through, with the low cut on, it just makes the sound a bit brighter so if you have a deep or boomy voice just switch on the low cut switch, my voice tends to be around the mid range so the mic is perfect as it is.
At this price point this is an absolute bargain and I would certainly put AKG mics on my shopping list next time, I have some excellent Rode ones for my voiceover and video work but I can see me buying into AKG mics in the future.
I feel that this Condenser Microphone complements the tone of my voice better than what I have used in the past. Defo brilliant quality for a budget. ‘Thumbs Up’ from me.

Used it on new worlds cd all vocals
Its great
Dynamic range
Over all warmth is great

The AKG P420 large-diaphragm condenser microphone produces great sounding audio especially considering its price.
The microphone is supplied in a sturdy carry case that also contains a spider shock mount. The spider shock mount holds the mic securely and can be attached to any standard mic stand. It is worth noting that the mic and shock mount are quite heavy so you need to ensure you have a sturdy mic stand that won’t topple over.
Paired with a pop filter, the microphone is ideal for voice-over and podcast work. This is not a USB microphone. It has an XLR output and, being a condenser microphone, it requires 48V phantom power to operate. I get great results from this mic when paired with a Samson pop filter and a Focusrite Scarlett audio interface.
The microphone is also great for picking a variety of instruments. The switchable -20dB pad is useful for loud sources such as drums and guitar amplifiers and the selectable pickup patterns offer great flexibility.
Whether you have a specific purpose or are looking for a flexible mic to add to your audio toolkit, I would definitely recommend the AKG P420.
Bought as a present for my musician brother who was very pleased with it and the quality

Having a small budget I needed a good microphone that I can use with FL Studio. You have to be careful with the positive reviews these days as they can’t always be trusted sadly, well, this review is genuine. I’ve tested it on my new Steinburg UR 22C and it just works, very clear, very sensitive so you will need a quiet room to take advantage of it but the sound quality is excellent, not too much treble or base to the sound, just clear mid tones and a little warm which is a good thing for most people. I’m using it with FL Studio for voice and some acoustic guitar and it’s perfect for what I need and great value to boot! Don’t hesitate, just order it.
I’m an aspiring voiceover artist, and after a few false starts and trying to “cheap out” using Blue Snowballs or Neewar condensers, I decided to take the step up in audio quality. After reading around online I settled on the AKG p120 as it seemed like good value for money from a reputable brand.
Now, the sound quality is phenomenal when used in conjunction with a behringer mixer and soundcard interface, but you really have to work for it.
Anyone that knows what they’re doing with regards to sound recording will know how to utilise a condenser mic correctly, but they’d probably be using higher spec and higher priced kit.
For those uninitiated, be prepared to put some work in to get clean recordings, things like familiarising yourself with your interface and software are essential, you need to understand that condensors are very sensitive and need you approach them with a great deal of care and attention. That said, I’m astounded with the level of sound I’ve been able to get out of this mic, I intend to give voiceover a good old colleague try and I think this can really help me get my start.
I’ve had to adjust my set up to eliminate other sounds from the room in which I record but have been able to capture the nuance of my voice and a little guitar to astounding detail.
In short, if you’re very adept at recording with condenser mics. I think this will suit you well, the clarity is brilliant. However if this is your first step into the realm of capturing sound, prepare to put the work in (by watching YouTube channels such as Booth Junkie or Podcastage) and you will be deftly rewarded.
If, indeed you just want a clean recording for youtube voiceover or streaming. This is way overkill.
I have this mic connected to a Focusrite 2i2 into Ableton live 10. The vocals are clear and easy to add effect too if desired highly recommend this mic

dont get the usb version because you wont be able to connect it to your audio interface.. the analog one are great for reasons opposite to the aforementioned. great price and durable. just youtube it for a better performance review and im sure you wont want anything else.. AKG is a respected company.
Consigliato.
I decided on this rather than a cheaper more basic model. Really happy with it. I use it via a powered audio interface. Perfect for broadcasting my radio show, and for recording vocals with Ableton Live.

Its a good product at its price
Gudd with upper end and also good with bass and mid but it have some noise which is little irritating when you start to post proc
ess your sound. i rarely use its pad or bass cut .
Good for vocals and guitar as written in description .really solid built .good for starters
It will be a good investment in ur budget home studio
This mic just arrived, immediately plugged it into my scarlett for a test drive and the results are really impressive for the price. I first noticed that it produces a lot more gain than my previous mic, so for vocals I’d recommend playing with the lo-cut and pad to reduce clipping.
Microphone is sentive and and sounds great (used for recording vocals). It looks sleek and doesn’t seem to pick up too much background noise despite its sensitivity
ice microphone and reasonably priced, comes with a good quality carry case and shock mount, instructions were none existent, but its not complicated.

Revelation. Much wider frequency response than in product description – the mic is recording 30kHz with no problems – test it with hihat. Excellent for snare, crash – no distortion at all. It is recording all nuances as well – figerclick from distance of metre is clear and loud – so, over all great scale of dynamics and frequency. Indeed the electret solution is top shelf. Recommended. Very strong metal build – hard and heavy. Excellent purchase.
As a home recording artist, this mic definitely met my needs. For the longest time, I’ve owned the AKG Perception 120 (the old model), and I’ve never had a problem with this mic. The main reason to why I bought the P220 was so I can change my setup to have one mic for recording vocals (the P220) and the other mic for recording YouTube videos (Perception 120). The shock mount for the P220 is being used for the Perception 120, and it fits the mic perfectly. Both mics are basically the same size, so I figured that it would work. The build quality on the P220 is rugged and tough, and the functions are very simple. You have 2 main settings: the bass roll off, which is great if you want to record without having to deal with any unnecessary low end frequency that the mic picks up. The other setting cuts off the signal by 20db. From my experience, it’s best use is if you have a noisy background, and you don’t want that to bleed into the mic. It basically isolates the signal to only be heard right in front of the mic as opposed to everything in the environment. I would be lying if I said that were some things I don’t like about it (because I simply LOVE AKG products) but for other people, this might be too simple of a mic compared to other more expensive mics. The sound of this mic is warmer and more direct than the AKG Perception 120, so I felt that it was better for recording vocals. However, the Perception 120 still crushes it in the studio. Some people might consider a different taste in sound compared to other mics, but for me, this mic suits my needs perfectly.
The AKG Perception 120: AKG Perception P120 Professional Studio Microphone, Sliver
So, here are my pros and cons:
PROS:
– inexpensive
– simple settings
– versatile (vocals, guitar, etc.)
– rugged
CONS (possible opinions of others):
– too cheap
– too simple (not enough settings)
– not preferred taste of sound
– too heavy
Bought as gift. Person who received it liked it very much.
Very nice microphone, this is a drop down in price for me as I have a lot of much higher priced microphones but this was recommended to me by someone who is a podcaster so I bought one to try. I now use this one only for my podcasts and my voiceovers on videos. It is so good I cannot believe it only cost so little. It has a 20db pad and a bass roll off switch. I record with it in the – 0 with the bass roll off on, this mic requires Phantom power and is an XLR microphone. I also use it with a pop filter. It is plugged into a DBX 286s which goes into a Focusrite 2i2 which then goes into an Imac. I find this combination of equipment makes the Mic sound very professional and studio quality.
Brilliant piece of kit. Really responsive, lovely clear sound. I use it for recording vocals in my room at home and it’s perfect. Really happy with the quality

This is my second to replace my presonus my . Sounds so much more dynamic I had to have another to record my guitar.
Nice and clean . Perfect for home recording. I recorded guitar and voice on this and all sounded very good.
This is a great microphone for the price! AKG makes them solid. The P420 is a condenser mic that needs phantom power. There is a polar pattern switch for cardioid, omnidirectional or figure 8 and a 0 -20db and bass cut filter switch too. The frequency response is 20 Hz to 20 kHz. There’s a gold sputtered diaphragm on one side to prevent shorting to the back electrode. It comes with a nice carrying case and a real shock mount. This microphone gives you many options for different instruments and applications. I use it with other microphones and it works really well. I think it’s great on acoustic guitar, drum overheads, vocals or just a room mic just put it in the back of the studio. Of course there are cheaper and more expensive microphones out there, and people will achieve different sounds with the same microphone. It just depends on what it’s used for and what’s applied to the sound.
The quality of this microphone at it’s price point is fantastic. It feels solid and well built, and has so far not raised any complaints from clients and collaborators about sound quality. It’s just quietly going about doing its business, whilst I’ve saved myself a few quid. Very happy.

Has been good for recording vocals and guitar. Would recommend this mic for a budget home recording.
For the price i dont really think you can get better I compared this to my rode nt2a and there are only minor differences… if youre going after a cheap affordable microphone just to do the job go for this you cant really go wrong. an advantage you get with this AKG is that you can roll off low end.
Great one AKG
I’ve recently answered a question about this microphone (I bought mine a number of years ago now and it’s still going strong) – it’s a very good mic – BUT!!! For the budding podcasters – you need to be aware; – this Mic needs something called PHANTOM POWER – I have an external sound card which provides the mic with phantom power – it needs Phantom power to work..

Just got this microphone last week to use as an overhead for my drum kit. Working to a budget so only using microphones on the snare and bass drum. The AKG Perception offers switchable control over how it picks up signals. This is a very sexy looking microphone with a powder blue finish and excellent tooling. It oozes quality and is quite a heavy piece of kit. It comes in a equally sexy case ideal for keeping it safe on the road. The shock mount cradle supplied with it ensures clean pick up of signal and is well made. So how does it perform?
I play in a Deep Purple Tribute band so quality and volume of sound are paramount. I selected the Cardioid pattern and placed the Perception over the middle of the kit bringing it in from the front, slightly biased over the two floor toms. Pick up was superb and it gave detailed sounds of the toms and cymbals which were very clear. I haven’t tried the other settings yet as the Cardioid was so good. Tried bringing it in from the back of the kit slighty to the right of my head at the maximum height of the microphone stand. This also gave excellent results. This set up will only ever be used for live work for me, but I’m sure this would be an excellent choice in the studio as well. This microphone is very sensitive so be careful when its overhead. If you mutter under your breath, or grunt when your playing every one will hear you!!
The instruction booklet that is supplied is easy to follow and does not blow you away with “technojargon”. Only problem I found was the counter weight on your mike stand needs to very substantial due to the weight of the Microphone. I had problems with the stand tipping forward. However this is no fault of the Microphone and I solved the problem by gaffa taping the stand to the stage floor. What would us drummers do without Gaffa tape?
Very happy with AKG Perception 420, and when funds are better I will buy another and use two overheads. Excellent product and excellent service via amazon.
