The first one they sent was one of keys is not working, I asked
for a replacement and they sent me one right away and received
it the next day. It sounds pretty good for a beginners piano…
My daughter is just a beginner and she finds it easy to learn, offers also a free online tutorial. Good sound quality and good value for money.
It is easy for young kids who want to learn to play the piano.
This keyboard is great for the money. 179. Lightweight and as small as can be. The piano mode sounds great. The other sounds average in my opinion. Back to playing after many years. The one thing that’s not so good is the key action of the black notes. Need more force the further back you play them. This I feel is only a problem if you want to play some serious classical music. In the future I will consider getting the Roland FP-10 but it costs about 3 times more. Hope this helps.
This is a serious piece of kit, it has weighted keys and the acoustic piano sound is superb, pretty much indistinguishable from the real thing, the other voices are similarly impressive.
Every bit as good as others at twice the price, I would recommend it in an instant.
Well, I’ve had this piano for two weeks now and I am delighted with it.
The sound quality is excellent, the keys have just enough resistence to give a genuinely piano-like feel to them, and the touch sensitivity is very welcome, so for anyone looking to learn piano rather than just keyboard I will defiitely recommend this.
I spent a couple of months over the summer umming and ahing over which keyboard to go for, eventually narrowing it down to the Recital 61 (I have limited space) or the Yamaha 373; deciding that, whilst the 373’s grand piano sound is gorgeous, it lacks the key-feel of a real piano. For anyone learning to play piano, as opposed to just ‘keyboard’, this feel, the combination of weight and touch sensitivity, is vital, and as the 10billion bells and whistles on the Yam did not interest me, the Alesis won out by quite a distance.
Are there any downsides to this piano? Only a couple of *very* minor ones related to the power cable. The wire for this is seriously short (a little over a yard in length) and the jack plug/socket connection feels a bit too tight (so much so that unplugging it from the back of the machine feels a little uncomfortable in case I may damage it in some way) so instead I unplug from the wall rather than from the piano itself. These are though, as I said, very minor quibbles and certainly would not have stopped me buying this piano if I’d known in advance.
So, summing up, I’d recommend this piano for anyone looking to actually learn piano rather than ‘keyboard’. It has everything you need to learn to be a decent pianist from scratch. All you need to do now is buy one and practise.
I’d always had a keyboard until about 8yr ago and I’ve missed it like crazy! This electronic piano is brilliant, very nice feel to the keys, slightly weighed so feels more like a piano. It doesn’t have loads of voices like a keyboard, it’s got piano, electric piano, synth, bass and something else I can’t think of right now haha but yeah it has a more professional feel to it but it’s definitely going to be good for beginners too considering it’s a full size 88key. I’m over the moon with this instrument, definitely recommend. Thank you!
Full size piano with slightly weighted keys. Good tone and speakers / volume. Metronome key for practice. Perfect.
Beginner here I think this is absolutely fantastic, really good quality for the price (I got it when it was on sale for around 150) I don’t think I would buy it at full price as a beginner, I would see this more of an upgrade but as I said for the price I did pay it’s well worth the money!
I bought this as a present for my wifes birthday as she had expressed an interest in learning an instrument.
I am really happy with this keyboard as a starter instrument for her. The sound is good, there is a jack for headphone connection for when she wants to practice during a busy time.
She tells me that the keys are responsive and the pressure feels authentic to the pianos she played at home as a youngster, and that it is easy to use and intuitive.
I spread the payments across 5 months as an experiment (i have not done this with Amazon before) and found it a very convenient way of doing things.
This is a definite recommend from me.
Just perfect for me and recommend for my by my teacher.
Love the semi-weighted keys. Battery option makes it so portable. great purchase!
Now I am getting to know this keyboard, it is good, but as some of your reviewers say very good for beginners, but the organ voice is a little bit disappointing!
This purchase proved to be good value for money. It is sturdy and allows for different sound types. It took a bit of time to get used to firmer keys than in a normal piano
Amazing Piano the sound that comes out of this is really good considering it’s electronic.
Idal pour dbutants ou musicien dsirant transporter sont piano sans difficult trs bon son trs beau piano il as tout d’un grand
I think that this Alexis is perfect for piano beginners. The sound is not too digital and the semi-weight keys help to get used to the real piano. Very easy to use! Not too many functionalities, but again for a complete beginner or for who wants to play it on an amatorial level is more than enough!
I am very happy with this purchase!
I was looking for a digital piano to learn to play — and on Alesis Recital I found it — it is still a long way yet for me to be able to play it but I have the patient and the enthusiasm to achieve this goal
If you want an electric full size key piano, look no further for the price. presuming its still a good price , 179 at time of purchase. I didn’t need a full size keyboard but the price for its application in a home studio was fantastic
I like the fact it is merely an electric piano, not that i’m knocking the ones that have multi voices and drum track backing, as i dont need them. if you do want these additions, then this piano wont be for you, unless you use usb to host.
The sound of the piano voice is fairly accurate and as described, also it has an electric piano sound, organ bass and synth sound, and you can add reverb etc..
it is reasonably loud at max setting, but probably not loud enough for noise makers:-). this seems to be what some purchasers have had concerns about.
Ive read some reviews that the weighting isnt very good, i dont totally agree. it depends what you will be using it for, be it strictly standalone piano or midi trigger or both.
Outputs are as described for your choice of applications so look though product description info.
Whats very handy is the usb to host. NOTE usb cable not provided in the package! (its a type-B USB cable exactly like the ones used in most home printers)
For those not so sure about technology, this means it acts as a midi device when plugged into your computer and can trigger a whole world of other sounds in programmes (like cubase etc)..it becomes your drummer, your piano/accordion/orchestral strings/bass/guitar/sfx trigger as loud as you like running through connected speakers.
it isnt heavy to move around and isnt difficult to get around setting up. it worked straight away out of the box within a few minutes.
Every bit as heavy as advertised. Nonetheless still portable. I have mine in a fixed location. The sound quality is just a little less than I had expected but still very acceptable for a beginning student like myself. I would definitely say this is a great alternative to a full 88 keyboard if you don’t have the space.
Love it we are starting to get some tunes out of it now
Learning to play a piano has been something my wife and I wanted to learn
Can’t wait for our grandchildren to visit us
Some of the reviews for this product are ludicrous, people complain that the keys aren’t weighted exactly the same as a piano, that the sound isn’t exactly perfect, it’s made primarily of plastic so fells like a ‘toy’, what exactly were these people expecting?
It’s less than 200 quid. If you wanted a piano buy one, if you wanted the Casio that’s 100 quid more then buy that. For it’s price this thing is great, the keys are weighted, the sound is fine, (in fact when I sent a recording of some music played on it to some friends, they didn’t even notice it wasn’t a real piano), the bad reviews are basically:
‘It’s not a real piano therefore I’ll give it 1 star’.
It has a headphone jack, it can be connected to a laptop or pc if you buy a cable, comes with a basic peddle, it’s perfect if you’re a beginner or on a budget.
The only negative I have to say about it is that the volume doesn’t go loud enough to deafen you. The volume is perfectly fine for me but it certainly doesn’t go as high as other keyboards. Other than that any ‘negative’ is pretty much nullified by it’s price. Am I really gonna complain about it being plastic??? No it was 170 quid and at that price we’re lucky it wasn’t made out of clay.
This electric piano exceeded my expectations. It performs beautifully and the semi weighted keys add that confidence when playing.
A most excellent item. Very highly recommended to both beginners and professionals alike.
Thank you.
Alesis has a long history and a great reputation for sound quality and mechanical action. This Recital 61 deserves its name. Lots of stops, lots of ways to connect, midi compatible, great music stand. Industry standard interfaces. We use it at home for pleasure, but I think it would work well for a small band or a teaching application too.
La verdad es que no se mucho de pianos, yo apenas estoy comenzando a aprender y esta muy cmodo, las teclas no son muy duras, pero tampoco estn muy blandas, el sonido es a mi parecer muy bueno.
This keyboard is well built and robust with nice sound (comparable to a piano) and is large enough to play almost any beginner song. The keyboard is useful for not only beginners but also intermediates as it has a plug in for a pedal and controls such as reverb. Great price for what you get and would highly recommend for any user especially beginners.
I purchased this back in may 2020 have had no issues, this keyboard is a perfect fit for beginners!
I love it! The sound is very clean and the board looks cool as well. In perfect condition and it arrived super quick. Definitely worth your money 🙂
Like a lot of kids growing up in the ’60’s, I took piano lessons for a few years, but I was not gifted so I lost interest. However, I always thought I would try again as an adult. I decided that during the quarantine was a good time to try. Love this keyboard! The sound is great, the keys feel good, and I’m having so much fun being a basic player. Totally recommend this keyboard.
This keyboard is especially great for beginners. However, I noticed the sound from one of the speakers start to produce a fuzzy sound when pressing certain keys, so I don’t know how to fix that. In terms of its portability though, it’s very well portable; however it’s pretty heavy to carry as well. One thing I also want to mention is that headphones don’t seem to work when plugged in, so there’s that.
I’m actually a pianist and have been looking for something not too expensive that I could use to record some things for work. This works great! I don’t have a mac so I haven’t been able to figure out logic yet but I have been using bandlab and it works just fine.
I seperately bought an a to b adapter to connect it to my computer and also a sustaining pedal, as it is 100% necessary, of course.
It’s obviously not too sensitive in terms of weight for dynamics and such but you do feel like you do get more than what you ordered for such a price. I was between this and the famous Casio CDP but as someone else mentioned before, did not want to bet on that not sounding after a time so went for this one instead. I currently regret nothing!
A beautiful clean piano with decently weighted keys. I haven’t explored all the sound options and effects but this is excellent for a beginner or someone with experience brushing up on their skills. Good sound quality and excellent value.
Received this yesterday and first impressions very good. It is a replacement for a very old Roland ep-7e that gave up the ghost and it compares very favourably. The only criticism so far is the included Skoove Premium trial – this only works on a PC, laptop or Apple product (iPhone, iPad) but not Android. Therefore Skoove is useless for anyone, like me, who wants to use an Android tablet. That negative aside I am very happy with this product and it appears to be excellent value for money.
I am the keyboardist for my church and I’m used to a high quality keyboard around $5000 quality. During Covid I have been doing worship videos from home with my piano but wanted to have a synth effect to add more ambiance I had ordered a slightly more expensive Yamaha let’s just say any of those under 1000$ sound like toys lol. This I am unbelievably Happy with. It’s still not as great as the churches of course but it has the sound quality any vocalists and genuine musician wants. My only complaint is I’m used to 88 keys and I can tell the difference but that’s something I can live with
Amazing keyboard for the price. The keys are satisfactory, the sound is quite good for a keyboard at this price, build quality feeling very solid, and the midi works as expected. Haven’t used the metronome as I have other devices for that., as such I can provide no feedback on how well it functions. All in all for a $200 keyboard it is a great buy. I will definitely consider this brand for future purchases.
I love play it so far. A good size and sound.
Came with a free 3-month trial for an online lesson platform. Perfect for corona virus lockdowns. I’ve been playing it everyday so far.
The only thing i don’t like is how to change the metronome tempo etc. Its not straight forward enough, but an extremely minor criticism.
It’s great, I bought it as a beginner so obviously I can’t compare it to other products but I’ve found it great. For the price I don’t expect it to have any competitio
Recently bought to try to learn the piano as a young adult (20), enjoying the experience so far and couldn’t have asked for a better keyboard for it. So glad I went for a full 88 key piano for a starter and would recommend that anyone else starting out does the same, If you’re willing to commit you won’t regret it.
I used to play the piano 40 odd years ago. I had to sell my piano when I moved to a small house and I missed it!!! I have bought a couple of electric organs trying to replace it but they never sounded like a REAL piano and I grew disheartened until I discovered this! Make sure you get the pedal as well (it makes all the difference). It arrived late afternoon – I set it up and couldn’t leave it alone for 5 hours solid!
I have just started learning piano on this and i love it! It’s easy to carry, not too heavy even for me (considering i am a 20yo girl with no muscles) and sounds nice. I also practiced on an upright yamaha at school and i have not noticed any significant difference between the feel of the keys. It’s a full sized keyboard at 88 keys so if you do want to move on to an actual acoustic piano it’ll be easy to orient yourself. I like that i can adjust volume or use earphones, something not possible with an acoustic piano which is really loud to me so i can practice anytime without worrying I’ll wake people up.
This piano was going to replace a midi keyboard which had broken. The size and semi weighted keys along with the midi ports made this a great option. The piano is great to learn with, whilst the advanced settings can get a little complicated without the guide it surely has a lot to offer.
I purchased reconditioned, so cheaper than advertised and I really like it. The item looked brand new to me. I like the simplicity of the keyboard. The keys are perfectly weighted for me. The keyboard is not overly loud, but I like this. For practice I prefer the gentleness of the sound. I know they call this a beginner keyboard, but I think it would do well for all levels. For such a reasonable price and quality, it seems mad to pass this up to buy something more expensive. Very happy sooo far.
I’m only leaving a short review as its all that required. if you want a decent sounding solid digital piano, then buy this. you will not be disapointed. If you want the real feel of a clasic piano, then do not buy this and go for the next model up with fully weighted keys. I’ve used both and i am an amature, but even I can feel the dramatic difference in flow of play with full weighted keys. This model to learn, the next one up to love. great company, so you won’t go wrong with whatever you choose
Nice simple full-size keyboard with ports for headphones (via audiojack adapter) and 1 pedal.
Limited voices (Piano, Electric Piano, Organ, Synth, Bass) but features a ‘Split’ function which I imagine is for lessons, so probably a good option for kids. I like the aesthetic and it meets my needs for a good price so couldn’t be happier.
As I’m starting to progress I only wish the keys were more sensitive so I could play gently or more heavily, and that makes me want to bankrupt myself on an upright piano, but for what it is I can’t complain. (The keys are pressure sensitive, just not to a realistic piano-level extent).
After a 9 year break from starting grade 5 piano.
I decided to get back out all my old books and start again and this is perfect.
Everything is in the box to just plug and play, you will just need the bigger type of adapter for the headphones as the ones used in your phone would be to small.
My sustain pedal fits perfectly, it also has a good metronome and the 2 demo songs are beautiful.
Highly recommend and arrived a day earlier than expected.
Brilliant keyboard. Our daughter was sick of not being able to play tunes as per this full keyboard on her previous one as she was missing essential keys. Her playing has come on leaps and bounds with the Alesis Recital. Great for her to be able to mix/record through a laptop too.
Excellent if you are limited to space, good value for the money. Only downside, the adapter doesn’t plug straight into a UK standard socket, you need a mans electric shaver style adapter ………..
If it contains sustain pedal and 3.5mm earphones can be used on this keyboard, I think that is much more perfect.
The weight of its keys is too light maybe less than half of piano’s.
SOMETHING I HAVE ALWAYS WANTED WAS A PIANO WELL AT 78 I NOW HAVE ONE DO NOT CONSIDER IT A KEYBOARD AT ALL TRUE PIANO SOUND KEYS NICELY WEIGHTED FITS BEAUTIFULLY ON A TABLE PLUS THE HIGHEST OF A NEST OF TABLES + CUSHION AS A SEAT JUST PERFECT YOU ARE NEVER TOO OLD TO LEARN SOMETHING NEW !!
Arrived nicely packed but unfortunately did not work, could have been adaptor or the unit, not sure but amazon were able to replace using Hermes courier within 48 hours. Very pleased and the new one be works fine.
Bit annoying that the advanced functions are a combination of two buttons plus certain keys but guess that’s to keep the aesthetics uncomplicated.
This keyboard is as close as I can get to a real piano, which I hope to be able to afford one day. I use it as such and it fills the need for now. I have taught myself to play, starting with a smaller keyboard. For the price, this is brilliant.
Good for the money, nice tone and uncomplicated to sort. Generously sized music stand. Imperative, however, to get a sustain pedal as sounds hollow without. Keys a bit on the light side as not weighted but all in all, a very satisfactory instrument for learning on or for amateur playing.
Fantastic keyboard, but should have probably saved myself some money by buying 2nd hand. It’s now leaning against my wall rather than being used. I did use Yousician which made the experience awesome – but you have to pay for that. The reviews I read told me that the supplied training sofware was awful; hence why I chose Yousician instead.
I bought this to get back into piano after several years of not playing. I did many grades when I was younger, mostly learning classical style music and eventually got out of the habit of playing after University. A few years on and I wanted to relearn playing by ear so I can accompany singing at parties etc. I didn’t want to spend too much and I live in a small apartment so I wanted something that wouldn’t take up too much space.
Having only played a real piano before, I was surprised how similar this is as I was concerned it would feel like playing a keyboard. Having gotten used to this, switching back to playing a real piano took about 10 minutes to get the swing of again. I usually use headphones to practise but it has a decent sound on its own too. This has been great for getting up to speed again but I suspect I’ll want to upgrade in the next few years to a fully-weighted digital piano with a better sound. I really like the ability to connect it up to the computer, but I got bored with Skoove pretty quickly.
A couple of recommendations as I had to do a bit of work to find the accessories etc:
– I bought this stand and it fits fine https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B000LUFTWS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_dp_T2_tYFCzb3BPDTBK
– You will probably want a sustain pedal, I got this one https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00IOEQQTS/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
– You will need a converter if you want to use normal headphones with a 3mm jack; I got this one https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0086P5F4M/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_dp_T2_h0FCzbK79V83M
– If you want to learn to play chords so you can accompany and play songs by ear (rather than reading music which, despite reaching grade 6, I was always rubbish at) then this book is awesome https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/0571539025/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Loved this Piano, had to resell due to relocation. Very tough and great sounding digital piano, with semi weighted keys its 100% perfect for beginners!
Absolutely a pleasure to play – Highly recommend!
My mum in law bought this for my daughter’s piano lessons. It sounds great like a real piano. The weighted keys give the feel of a real piano but the controls make it much more. My daughter loves it and enjoys practising at it.
Very happy with the keyboard, nice sound to it. Can reccommend. I am disappointed with the 3 month Skoove trial, they need credit card details to sign up to get the 3 months free. Paypal is not available. A free trial should be free, no need to give payment details unless you decide to carry on with subscription.
I have just started lessons and was looking for a piano to practice on between lessons. I have only had the Recital two days but I must say I’m really impressed. It sounds great and has great functionality.
This is great value for money and very well constructed.
Good piano sound and key action, we got it to learn keyboard skills. Its simple and free of daft unnecessary play sounds and faddish features. I think its great.
