First proper full keyboard iv had. So can’t really compare with others. But very satisfied. Very good value for money. Nice and sturdy not flimsy. I won’t be moving it around so wasn’t bothered about it being ultra lightweight. So this is perfect and it was well packaged.
It’s great for beginners and to practice how to learn piano, but the keyboard has many extra noises which are quite annoying. Feels like a real piano but doesn’t sound anything like it. Good for practice. Good value for money.
Tried it out before wrapping it up for our daughters Christmas present and it was great.
This keyboard amazed me, 40+ years ago I took piano lessons on a baby grand, I was never that good, but moved to electric organ after that as I could eithrr never find yhe time or the room for a piano. Having alway harkened back for one, and still don’t have the room, I saw this item in reviews. Has a bit of spare cash, so thought I’d try. Wow! Now bear in mind I am no expert, but this from memory feels like I was back as a young lad in my instructors how on the baby grand. I’ve used the other voices quite a bit also, and these too are off the chart. Always end up coming back to the piano though. Can’t praise this equipment enough. Would happily advise anyone who doesn’t want to purchase a piano but does want to either learn or allow their child to learn, to purchase one of these. Never thought a digital instrument could give such good touch and sound. Love it.
I am using it to learn piano music. It feels good.
I recommend it at the price.
I ordered my piano on July, 24, 2020 and today we are October, 19, 2020, and already the left speaker is blown. Static noises comes out of it.
A BEAUTIFUL instrument with perfect sound likeness!!
Just starting out learning to play the piano but wanted something substantial from the get go. This piano is STUNNING!! It looks great, it sounds great! Can’t wait to get the lessons and start playing something I’ve wanted to learn to play all my life
The piano took quite a long time to get delivered and we ended up having to cancel and reorder the product. Once we canceled and reordered, the keyboard was delivered within the week. The quality of the piano is pretty good and sounds professional! We love the added options to add in other sounds/beats and is a great option for someone who doesn’t want to spend an arm and a leg on a full size keyboard ! Overall very happy with the produc
Lovely piano and great sounds and features ideal for beginners and frequent players
I bought this for my son for his music studies, excellent value and quality. He loved i
This piano gives me everything, heavy weighted keys and good piano sounds as well. This piano is best value for the money
Pros:- Exellent instrument for beginners and at a very reasonable price considering the fully weighted keys and all the adjustable sound and touch features, being full-size it will still be usable even for quite advanced pianists.
Cons:- due to the weighted keys it is quite heavy especially for frail people, it could benefit from having a few more port’s and graded keys, having said that for the price it packs more features than some considerably more expensive non weighted key pianos. Well done alesis from one very happy customer.
I bought this Alesis Recital Pro product for a friend to start learning keyboard skills. A brilliant product.
This really is a fantastic product, now had for 5 months. Sound quality is great and such a lovely feel on the keys. Great value for money and many features available.
This keyboard is great for beginners/intermediate but if you want something with all the bells & whistles on this isn’t for you mind for the price you get alot for your money & after along time comparing brands & prices this was my best option i would always say Roland is the brand to beat for quality sound & key action but the alesis has good weighted adjustable keys ,great speakers , good sound and it has the on board tools you need but it is a big piece of kit which I personally i don’t dislike I’m not using it 2 move around but if you were I’d consider this, I bought a pedal , stand to accompany overall this is a good solid choice & will perform for yrs i suppect & at the price it’s great value & if later you want something a little more you ca
I liked this keyboard very much. It felt well built. Because I am a beginner, I used it with very low volume or with earphones. I did want to have “casualties” in my family due to my boring repetition. The volume-quality might be an issue for some “advanced” buyers, not for me at this point of my learnings. For the price? I vote for it!
Good value. I bought this as a gift for my wife and she really likes it.
Sound Quality is great for this price point.
The only negative is I was very disappointed in the shipping process.
When ordered it was supposed yo be in stock. However it took over 2 weeks to ship, then it was shipped by Canada Post and took another 2 weeks to arrive and very little in respects updates during that time.
I’m a beginner pianist as well as my other sisters. We are all having fun with this piano as it is very beginner friendly. I use the piano with my headset (which you’ll need a 1/4″ adapter to plug into) and it sounds magnificent with it! I can hear the vibration and the small echo (like you’re in a concert auditorium), splendidly! My family is pretty happy with this purchase!
Wow, a really superb electric Piano in terms of both sound and build quality. The weighted keys provide for a realistic piano feel.
I feel like I ripped someone off, I paid so little for something so great!!! I am so glad I purchased. I was hoping for keys that didn’t feel so plastic-y, but they will be easy to dust/clean so that’s not a huge deal. This keyboard is a HUGE step up from my old keyboard that felt more like a toy. It feels great to play, it sounds great, super affordable…. I’m so happy with it!!!
We are beginners and this is incredible for the price. It is well thought out, easy to use, has a great build quality, sensible features and excellent sound. It’s quite heavy but that makes is steady on the stand. Professionals might say the sound isn’t as good as others but at our level, it sounds amazing compared to the plastic keyboard we were using before. I was reluctant to buy a 600 Korg piano in case it was a waste but the Alesis Recital Pro is absolutely spot on. I would really recommend it for anyone who wants 88, fully weighted keys and isn’t switching from a real or grand piano. I saw comments about noisy keys but it’s only the same as every other piano as far as I can see. At low volumes, you might hear the keys, like any piano.
Bought this for a surprise gift for my Dad’s retirement last week as he had hinted he wanted to get back into hobby of playing music and had mused at a cheap $80 electronic keyboard my brother and I had owned as kids. Felt he deserved something after providing for us day in and day out for the past 36 years. I naively searched “top keyboards 2020” and the Alesis Recital Pro was rated a 9.9/10. There were many other strong options listed including from brands like Yamaha, but I was keen on getting one with a full 88 key’s, which surprisingly were not many, so I went with the Alesis. The shipping took longer than had hoped and ultimately arrived 4 days after he officially retired even though Amazon said it would be arriving the day of his retirement. I’ll blame it on Covid-19. Needless to say he was brought to tears and has been practicing every night. The different sound options are extremely easy to switch between, and sound amazing. The Organ option legitimately sounds like you’re playing an Organ. The speakers are quite nice and you have the option for auxiliary port for headphones if necessary. All in all, very happy with the purchase, as is my Dad.
It’s been many years since I’ve played piano, only really getting to the fifth lesson and then having to stop for personal reasons. I had a nice wad of birthday vouchers this year so researched what was available and went for this one. I’m glad I did. The weighted keys (to me) make it feel like you’re playing a real piano. The sound is excellent and the built in pre-sets (although there aren’t many) are great quality. As others have said, it is a weighty beast and best not lugged from room to room, so I’m trying to find a permanent home for it. One downside. I’m learning to play via an iPad app and the stand isn’t really designed for N iPad, probably books. I’ve gotten around this by sticking two plastic hook hangers on the base to hold the iPad in position. It was really getting on my nerves the iPad slipping off all the time, so this is a bit Heath Robinson, but hey, it works. Love the keyboard and would definitely recommend it.
Negatives, well niggles really: Limited instrument options with just 12, tad muted on top keys, and one of the heavier keyboards – but none of that costs it a rating star.
Positives: Overall this is great value, great action, really nice tone for on board speakers. line out + phones / USB and peddle complete the picture. The addition of simple tonal controls, bright, reverb, chorus, modulation keeps up the interest plus on board metronome helps with the learning,. And just for crazy you can split the keyboard instruments to have one instrument on left hand and another on the right.
If you just want a full 88 keyboard to learn and play with no MIDI then this is great value.
One of the cheapest Digital Pianos (with fully weighted keys) available, so provided you manage your expections you won’t be disappointed. Despite the PRO Monica, which is becoming widely overused, this is better described as a good quality entry level DP. As a midi controller it lacks pitch bend and mod wheel, but it suits the needs for my small studio. For me its a good fit, so I’m delighted.
The Alesis Recital Pro is a good keyboard for beginners. It’s much better than my old Casio, but the keys make a banging sound when struck. It may be a ‘feature’ and not a ‘fault’ because it’s hammer-action, but I wish the keys didn’t make this noise.
The volume also isn’t that loud, especially for the piano 1 selection. The others are pretty good. Nonetheless, plugging an amplifier in may resolve this problem and maybe blot out the banging noise too.
pro: easy to use. good build quality, nice sound. passed the first 24h endurance test with my 5yr old kid.
con: noisy-ish hammer mechanism, no sustain pedal included, no wood stand available to buy, just generic metal ones.
This review is honestly very long overdue. When I decided I wanted to learn how to play the piano in early 2018 I ended up landing on the Alesis Recital Pro after a lot of research. I particularly wanted something with weighted keys so that when I could afford a real piano, there wouldn’t be an unnecessary additional learning curve. This piano is GREAT for beginners! Being able to connect to a computer easily for use of learning software is super easy and the sound is great as well. There is some clunking with the keys that some other reviews mentioned, but that is a normal side effect of many electric pianos with weighted keys so It would never effect my rating.
The real reason I am making this review is that in the summer of 2018 my piano was in an area that went through a 750 year flood. It was submerged in dirty, muddy water for nearly 36 hours. I am a stubborn fixer and didn’t want my dream to be put on hold, and prioritized it’s recovery over all of my expensive power tools. It took several days to disassemble the piano completely to clean all of the components with isopropyl alcohol. (the first step is literally spraying off all parts and circuit boards with water). I can say that with much experience in disassembly and repair of all different kinds of electronics and power tools that the Alesis Recital pro is of extraordinary quality- especially for the price. I can say with confidence that if anything ever happens to this piano, you can replace or fix the part with a little basic knowledge and a standard screwdriver. The piano FULLY recovered from this incident, and the video that is included in this review is of me playing the same piano at an open mic music night in October of the same year – after the flood. I very highly recommend not only this specific product, but the brand as well!
Love this piano. Great onboard sounds although I use my computer software sounds more but all in all it’s a great piano
The sound quality can be better with a more realistic sound
Good quality keyboard. Good variety of instruments on it. The depth of sound is great and it feels very similar to a piano. (Words of my 15 year old daughter who is learning piano as part of her music gcse)
I used a non-electric grand piano for something like 5 years straight, and I have to say, the sound is nowhere near comparable to the real thing. It lacks in many ways the richness of a grand piano.
It certainly is a piano for those who aspire to learn music. The thing is, if you are serious about spending 500$ on a piano, maybe think about spending 700$ or 1000$ on a better piano before purchasing, because there is going to be a point in time where you will start to feel that something is missing about the sound of this piano.
The worst thing I have noticed yet is that if you play too hard and too lound in your headphones (in which the quality exceeds greatly the quality of the embeded speakers), the sound can have some weird spikes of noises, which is disturbing.
Also, in the lower keys, when I press the 2 lower D keys as a bass and wait for ~2 seconds to build up some “dark atmosphere”, I can actually start to hear them play back, like an echo. It’s highly disturbing, and the atmosphere I’m trying to create is affected.
And don’t get me started on the other instruments this piano is able to play, it’s simply horrible. Stick to the piano sound if you still want to buy this piano.
The keys feel somewhat close to a real piano, but I would have loved to have even heavier keys. I think they are satisfying. It’s not perfect, it lacks impact and feedback, but I think it’s still interesting and you do feel like you’re hitting a string.
I don’t really recommand buying this piano, because I think that spending between 200 and 500$ more on another one is gonna make you spend actually less. You won’t have to buy another one later.
If 500$ is 500$, then go for it. It’s not bad at all. It just lacks a bit of sound quality, and have some minor disturbances.
I was very happy with this product. It felt and sounded like a conventional piano.
Great grandson having piano lessons
So this key board is the next best thing
It works very well. It has a small button to make it make the sound last longer or a bit shorter so make sure you set up it the way you like it.
Full size keyboard, larger than expected. Sound quality is unbelievable. Hammer keys simulates real piano keys louder the qicker and harder you press. Very impressed so far. Need to hook up midi equipment and test it out, but from what I have seen so far it should be exceptional. Their were some you tube videos of people playing if you want to hear the sound for your self. One criticism the skoove piano learning app is only available on I phone – no love for android here.
Present for son who is grade 7 piano he bought an additional pedal and uses it at gigs. He thinks it’s great value for money. Pleasant sound not over complicated with unnecessary stuff. Very pleased. Sounds as good as his mates keyboard that was twice the price!
My grandson loves this as he can practise as well as compose his own music then record what he has done.
A wonderful gift from a proud grandmother. Much appreciated. Quick delivery also.
I am very happy with this digital piano I arrive just in time and in perfect condition you can learn and do much more with this the sound quality I am so happy for now and I highly recommend this article good price good service. thanks
After doing a lot of research for a keyboard, this has been a great decision. I have been playing for 30 years, so I’m no novice. If you’re looking for a solid performance instrument and not a lot of sequencing, mixing, etc, this is an excellent choice. The piano and string sounds layered was my primary driver and it sounds great. The upper string notes are a bit bright but otherwise, it’s good.
I played a Starbucks last night and it was fine at half volume without an amp.
If you’re looking for hundreds of voices, recording, and sequencing, find a Yamaha. If you just want a nice piano sound for playing, I highly recommend it.
That said…it’s heavy. Get a good gig bag with strong handles.
Ninguna queja!!
Product built well, good key’s. Sound is subjective matter and personal opinion.
This digital piano was bought for my wife who wanted to take up the piano again after 60 years. She loved it, However, we found the 88 keyboard too heavy and large to be able to handle easily in our small bungalow and we had sadly to return and buy a 61 key Yamaha Piaggero. This has proved more easy to manage, store and move around. We chose this as best small version of a digital piano. had we the room and strength the Alesis Recital Pro would be our first choice.
Mixed bag, the hammer action is a bit off putting when compared to normal piano.
But I can see the benefit of it being there versus a non hammer piano.
The metronome and record function is quite useful for me.
My biggest drip and its not terribly big, is that there is an extremely high pitch, but quiet noise whenever a key is pressed.
I may have sensitive ears, I didn’t notice it at first but once I did, I can’t stop noticing it.
So if you’ve been enjoying this piano and didn’t notice it, you’re welcome.
Speakers seemed quite quiet for me, I do have some yamaha monitors, I’ve yet to plug them in so may update on sound quality through good speakers.
It’s generally ok but why are the volumes for harpsichord, clavi, acoustic bass and fingered bass so soft that I can hardly hear even when it’s on the maximum volume?
At the beginning, I received a wrong package without any keyboard. I contacted amazon customer service and they reordered another one for me and it was delivered in 2 days (I’m not prime).
The quality of this keyboard is amazing. I have been playing the piano for more than 10 years. To be honest, it still doesn’t feel like the real piano keyboard but it’s already really close. The sound is great and there are many different tones you can choose. It is really fun and I really like i
Lo he tenido por un ao y an funciona muy bie
I absolutely love this! It feels and sounds so big quality, it makes me excited to play.
The only negative was the European adapter that it came with
This is a beautiful keyboard. We love everything about it. My only issue is that you have to turn the volume all the way up to hear it. And even then, it’s not super loud. The sound quality is gorgeous just low volume. Is that normal??? Like, you can barely hear if it’s on up a quarter dial. It’s low at the half way mark and then decent sound but not loud when it’s turned to the maximum. Has anyone else experienced this? It’s possible that I got a defect. I’ll update when I sort it out…
bought it as a reward for a great year of piano lessons for our daughter. its a massive step up from her toy like beginner keyboard. she loves playing it. Hoping to hook it up to our computer soon to let her learn how to record herself and play it back through my PA
Really nice piano for the price. Good key reaction. Sounds good also.
Beautiful digital piano. My son takes lessons and the weighted keys are great for piano/forte practice.
Excellent starter piano with earphone jack, built in metradome and 12 different sounds. The semi weighted keys are great but not quite like a real piano but still a great piano to learn on. Light and portable. I bought the sustain petal as well as the stand. Great buy.
The Alesis Recital Pro is my first ever piano and I’m very happy with it. I knew I wanted something as close to a real acoustic piano, reasonably priced, good reviews, and a few special effects to play with. With the Alesis Recital Pro I feel like I made the right choice and all the boxes are ticked. Nice classical piano sound, fair price, a few special effects to play around with, a headphone jack which is great for late night practice for those insomniacs out there like myself. Overall I’m very happy with my purchase I would recommend the Alesis Recital Pro for a first time piano student without hesitation. You won’t regret it.
The only things I don’t like about the Alesis Recital Pro are that the keys have these somewhat sharp edges that you often feel when your fingers brush against the sides of the keys. Why they chose to go with these keys and not just smooth ones with no abrasive sharp corners is kind of puzzling.
The other only negative is that it only comes with a 1 year warranty. In this day and age that is very small, so hopefully the unit holds up.
Oh and like many others said, the max volume isn’t going to blow you away with these onboard speakers. I have mine in a one bedroom apartment so it’s fine for me, and I think anyone serious about performing would use a quality amp anyway.
Update***
So sadly, I think I’m returning this unit for a different manufacturer. I was considering buying the cheaper non pro Recital version but I know they probably use the same key designs on that model too. I really like the Recital Pro and for $350 it’s a great first digital piano for beginners like me, but I can’t get over the sharp key edges. I know it’s not a $3500 piano but even for $350, I should have to be distracted from lessons and playing music because my fingers are brushing up against sharply cut plastic keys. It’s a real shame because I thought I could ignore it and just focus on the good aspects of the piano but it’s not possible. Every now and then as I’m playing and practicing, I feel the keys, literally every lesson the keys sharpness offer a distraction which takes me out of the moment, and I decided I’m returning the recital pro before my return window closes. It’s a shame, because had it not been for the keys, I would have had no reservations in keeping the Recital Pro and giving it a 5 star review. My other options now are the Amazon exclusive Yamaha P71 or the Korg SP170S, and which I end up going with, it will mainly be a switch due to the keys.
Great functionality, easy to use, excellent sound with weighted keys for a budget price.
Glad I bought it!
This product is OUTSTANDING! Durable, good quality sound and built-in speakers, great polyphony, good feel to the keys…Just a great value! The fully-weighted action feels very much like a grand piano, and the sound quality is very good. I purchased this 18 months ago as an adult beginner who was just starting-out from square one. I didn’t have the money for lessons or an acoustic piano so I began by looking for a digital so I can teach myself, and this piano has been there for me every step of the way. There have been zero malfunctions and I have no complaints. I use it every day (sometimes for several hours per session) and it has held up to every bit of inexperienced pounding that I have dished out. This product is reasonably priced, it is of great quality, and I would recommend it to anyone…especially to beginners on a budget who want 88 full-weighted keys and good sound. I bought the M-Audio SP-2 pedal, and 1/4″–>1/8″ headphone adapter so I can use my standard ear buds and play at night, and both add-ons work great with this piano. I thought a truly effective digital piano would run me too much money unless I compromised on the size or the action or the sound. This piano compromises nothing and I look forward to my daily practice, AND it did not run the price of the other brands. This is a flat-out fantastic value! This piano is my partner on my musical journeys!
(Also, this digital has a cool feature once you hook-up a pedal: RESONANCE. Switched-on through the menu, this setting allows the piano to sound the resonance on the other strings that comes from striking a key with the pedal down on an acoustic piano. It sounds very beautiful!)
GOOD TONE AND SOUND BUT IN MY OPINION NOT FOR THE BEGINNER.
It is the best you can get for that price, feels and sounds just like a real piano.
I was pleasantly surprised by this. I bought it because I wanted to learn to play piano well and I wanted something to approximate the feel of a real piano without the cost (I’d taken lessons briefly years ago and I just sort of wanted to see if I could pick it up again). I was hesitant because when I say I took lessons years ago, I mean it, and back then affordable digital keyboards all felt and sounded hideously fake.
This one is not bad at all. It’s better than what I expected for the money I spent, definitely. My first one arrived damaged, unfortunately, and lucky I even noticed it. I actually had played for a while but I’d had no occasion to go to the highest keys until I noticed by chance that two of those keys were slightly depressed in a resting position and when pressed the mechanism seemed unweighted and they barely made any sound compared to the rest of the keys.
I called Amazon customer service and they were phenomenal. I’d explained I’d already tossed the box and they sent a replacement so I could just use that box to send it back and the delivery guy had a prepaid label for me to take the old one back at the same time. It is difficult for me to maneuver a large item like this alone, I have some physical issues that made me concerned the returns process would be a nightmare but that was not at all the case.
Furthermore, I feel that the issue I had with the first one was not even a manufacturer defect, the nature of the issue made it seem like perhaps the first unit was handled a bit roughly during transit (well a lot roughly) and the box did support this assumption. It was packed well, and the item itself is sturdy, but accidents happen and I imagine it may have been dropped at some point and the shock of the drop caused the issue. The second one, however, arrived in a timely fashion with zero defects and I couldn’t be more pleased. Keys are properly weighted, sound is good, it seems sturdy enough, and I’ve had no issues with it.
Overall, definitely a good purchase, especially if you’re an amateur like me and you don’t want to spend a huge amount of money but want something that feels and sounds decent.
Bought for my husband as he’s been learning on something smaller that just wasn’t doing the job. He’s thrilled with it. It has so many functions and sounds beautiful. It’s been worth every penny to see how far he has come since upgrading to this digital piano. 10/10!
I will keep my review simple. I’m a first year Berklee student who is currently taking Theory classes. This keyboard was meant to be along with me for a music journey through theory and composition. Since I have gotten it, I have not had any problems. I use it for learning classical pieces and even creating compositions. My favourite features are the metronome, the strings, synth, harpsichord, and acoustic bass. The hammer weighted keys are a good workout for my hands when I am practicing Czerny and Hanon. I can feel the stretch. Overall, I’m more than happy with this keyboard. No regrets.
This was just what I was looking for without breaking the bank.
I have played the piano for years and this product is very good at such price . This sound is similar to the real piano and the touch sensitivity is quite good. But to be honest it still have some differences with the real piano. When you play it hard, it will shake. But overall it is a very excellent product. Here is a video for reference
This is a great digital piano for practice and performance, real weighted keys (much like my Yamaha upright piano, if not heavier). It does come with very good sounds right out of the box, specially the bright piano setting; but I mainly use it as a midi controller for MainStage. Something I really liked that I didn’t found in any reviews is that you are able to select different types of reverb and control the wet/dry mix, as well as different types of EQ for the piano; so even if you plug in straight to the board you will get a pretty decent piano sound. You also get full control over the mix of your layered sounds, metronome volume and time signature, midi channel 1-16. Overall I’m very pleased with the product, it delivered far more than I expected, you just need a stand and a sustain pedal and you are good to go.
Better than I expected. I had one Casio which was around $1,500 if I remember correctly about 10 years ago and this one is definitely comparable. Don’t use much for other voices but for piano, the quality is quite good.
The only complain is headphone AV is rear side of the piano so you may need an extension to use a normal headphone/earphone.
We bought this a month ago and my wife loves it. Couldn’t ask for better and at a really great price.
Excellent digital piano for the price ! The feeling of keys is like a real acoustic piano
Great Product !!!
Better than expected.
Better than my College Piano 🙂
Really Recommended.
Thank you Amazon.
The first thing you notice when unboxing is the sheer weight — nearly 33lbs (14.8kg). This is no lightweight keyboard of the type you see in Youtube demos of instruments being carried in one hand with ease, or tucked under an arm. Make no mistake — this is a serious piece of kit in every way. Once positioned on your stand, it’s not going anywhere as long as that stand is itself very stable, and it certainly won’t jiggle or slide around if you get carried away. (More about stand stability later on).
The excellent and detailed product descriptions provided by Amazon give you all the basic information so I see no point in duplicating those here. What I do want to say is that this is an excellent instrument that’s not bedevilled by a plethora of voices, rhythms, functions and options which can be very distracting and not always all that useful, necessary or advisable. This is a keyboard with a strictly limited (but very ell chosen) set of voices. My only personal niggle would be that I wish the ‘Organ 1’ voice had been more of a rock organ sound rather than that of a rather lush Hammond but that’s me being picky.
What I want to stress is the effectiveness, USEFULNESS and ease-of-use of those additional options which are provided via the single ‘Function’ control. With this you can easily adjust and set such features as the bpm and volume of the metronome — the types of reverb, chorus and modulation that can be applied — the type of EQ balance preferred – the Hi/Lo volume parameters — touch sensitivity of the keyboard and so on. To make changes, you select the parameter to be changed and press ‘Function’ again. By turning the ‘Value’ button you make your alterations. Very usefully, these can be tested and heard in real time. When you’re happy, just press ‘Function’ again. Once adjusted, your preferences are retained after switching off — although this doesn’t seem to apply to ‘Transposition’.
Of the four possible settings for ‘Touch’ sensitivity (Off, 1,2,3 with 3 as the hardest), the default is 2 whereas I preferred 1. I changed this in less than 5 seconds.
Having a hammer action with weighted keyboard feels VERY different to a standard digital instrument — not surprising as this instrument is meant to feel like a traditional acoustic piano. The option to vary the ‘strength’ of that ‘feel’ is therefore very valuable, especially for beginners or those transferring from something like, say a Yamaha 365 or any other similar instrument.
As for sound quality — this is excellent and in my opinion stands note-for-note against almost any Yamaha or Casio keyboard. There are the usual options to use earphones or a separate amplifier and, in reality, you wouldn’t want massive levels of volume for home use when using the built-in twin speakers. If used in a public performance, you’d use an amplifier or DI into a rig. The quality of sound from the inbuilt speakers is excellent without any trace of distortion and if you want to tweak the Hi/Lo volume levels there’s always that Function button.
For anyone wanting a plethora of voices, rhythms and effects, this is NOT the instrument for you.
Possible considerations might be –
(1) An adapter if your earphones use a small 3.5mm jack. The Alesis earphone socket uses a 6.33mm (1/4″) socket.
TISINO 3.5mm to 6.35mm Jack Plug Adaptor, 1/4 inch Stereo to 3.5mm Headphone Adapter Jack Converter Gold Plated – 2 Pcak
(2) A suitable cover for an 88 key instrument. I chose a Jamber Stetchable cover, but there are many other makes available in a wide range of colours.
JamBer Stretchable Electronic Piano Keyboard Dust Cover for 88 Keys Keyboard, Black
(3) Earphones. Again there are a wealth of possibilities, depending upon the quality you want. I opted for fairly basic, but very effective foldable ones by Sony (MDRZX310)
Sony MDRZX310 Foldable Headphones – Metallic Black
(4) Personally, I dislike the usual ‘X’-type stand as I often find them to be a tad unstable and also prone to being pushed by your knees when playing. (Remember — this is a HEAVY keyboard. You need a strong and very stable platform on which to place it). My preference is for a model made by Neewer. It’s not desperately easy to repeatedly assemble and dis-assemble and then carry around in pieces, but if you’re most likely to keep your keyboard at home, then it’s worth careful consideration.
Neewer Heavy Duty Z-Style Keyboard Stand with 23.2-35.4″/59-90cm Adjustable Height and 24.6-40.9″/62.6-104cm Adjustable Width
(5) If you really want to go overboard, I thoroughly recommend the height-adjustable piano stool by Popmazing. I also gave that a 5 star review.
Popamazing Height Adjustable Deluxe Piano Stool Keyboard Bench with Storage 56x34x48-58cm
I am attaching 3 photos. One shows my setup with all items in view. The other two show the Neewer stand.
So, in conclusion, if you want a truly excellent, solidly built and well designed digital piano with hammer action weighted keys — this Alesis is well worth really serious consideration.
It’s worth adding that there are two other 88 key Alesis pianos which might be of interest if cost is a factor
(a) The Alesis Recital 88 beginner Digital Piano/Keyboard with semi-weighted keys and 5 voices.
(b) The same keyboard sold as part of a bundle with ‘X’ stand, bench and sustain pedal.
For the price, this is an amazing beginner’s piano with weighted keys. I had done a lot of research before buying this and was still a bit afraid that given its affordable price, it was going to be cheap quality. I am very impressed with the look and feel and the sound quality is just what you’d expect out of any good electric keyboard. Sure there are better sounding ones out there, but they are far more expensive. For any beginners or people just trying to learn at home and not perform, this is ideal. It has a USB port in the back, easily enabling you to plug into a phone and learn from an app.
Great Beginner Keyboard. Ton’s of fun to play. The action is good, and the sound is great. Really easy and simple to use. Skoove that comes with it is alright too.
A Christmas gift for my daughter. She can now practice in her bedroom, rather than have to use the piano in the living room when the rest of the family want to watch TV. I was worried that the keys and sound would be very different – but have been assured by her that there is no problem, so very happy. The only slight issue preventing me giving 5* is that the left speaker does not always work, although a reset solves the problem. I’m probably missing some setting, but can’t see anything in the brief (14 pages in English) user manual.
A well packaged, good quality item with excellent piano sound reproduction and long battery life (6 D size batteries can be used as an alternative to the supplied mains adapter)
Read many reviews for pianos before choosing this one and I am as impressed as I expected to be. It came well packaged in a huge box, which is fair enough as it is a big keyboard. Everything is as expected, sounds good, plays well, and is exactly what I wanted.
The function to plug it into a midi controller or a computer and use as a midi keyboard as well is a nice addition. The speakers work well too
The only downside is the lack of inclusion of a pedal, but considering the price it’s still cheaper to buy this and a good high quality pedal than to buy one with a lower quality included pedal.
Overall extremely happy and expect this to last a lifetime
I am really pleased with this digital piano. I am sure if you are used to a real piano or a more expensive ditial piano you might find it lacking. But It was perfect for me to pick up ln what I learnt as a child. The sound is great, and the weighted keys ans touch sensetive sounds work well. Didn’t take long to be able create some pretty tunes. My only negatvie comment is the max sound is maybe ok for a living room, but not as loud as some might want it. Overall a great sound for the price
It is a very good Piano/Synthesizer but I have got to buy some music book from music shop to be able to play it well. I taught myself to read music but I annoyed the neighbours while learning as I had a Yamaha portable organ with base pedals and a Korg synth. on top + a Casio 230s on top of them both. I used to do parties and old Peoples parties but I do need to have music to be able to play. Neighbours hammered on wall on Xmas morning so I threw it all in the skip, Good wasn,t it.
For the price this is excellent. Nice and loud and a great buy for children who are starting to learn the piano
