I was so impressed I ordered a second one. Once you get use to putting it In its fab. Removal is also easier than I expected but still a bit fiddly first thing in the morning.

Finally got round to buying one of these and its a game-changer. No leaks, and once inserted I don’t feel it at all. Was a bit concerned about it during sports but I’ve been on many runs and a 3-hour bike ride with it in without noticing it once.

It is quite difficult to remove but I think the overall convenience and eco-friendliness of it vs tampons outweighs a few moments of finger-fumbling!

First cup I’ve bought and wish I’d done it sooner! Took a tiny bit of getting used to and had a couple of tiny leaks at first. I have noticed my cramps are a bit better but that could just be coincidental. Nice design and cute little storage bag too. Fab. Highly recommend 🙂

I’ve looked at these but never taken the plunge until now. Lockdown seemed an ideal opportunity to give one of these a good test. A boil in a saucepan of water to sterile before my first use and I was good to go. The first insert and removal were a little challenging but by second attempt I mastered it. Pinch the top of the cup closed then fold it in half and pop it in. A little bit of a twist on the case of the cup ensures the top opens up inside. This cup (size 2) has a capacity of around 25mls and is brilliant if you have quite heavy periods. It’s also ok to be worn over night (up to 12 hours). Easy to remove, pinch the bottom of the cup to release the suction and gently pull it out. If it’s a little to high just bare down a little to help get it within reach . Then simply empty contents into the toilet, give a little rinse and pop back in.

    Surprised cup conve

Have used menstrual cups for a few years now and would definitely recommend this one. Really comfortable and fits great, little to no leakage.

Odd to get used to, but a really great solution to periods. Highly recommend this option – I put off trying these for a while as couldn’t see how they’d be safe and work! I’ve used for two cycles now and wouldn’t look back. It’s a bit messy, I’ll be honest, I wouldn’t try emptying in work or public loos as you need a sink close by!!! But as it only needs emptying late in the day anyway, that’s not a problem – they last a whole ‘shift’, and being in my 40s I have quite heavy periods. So far I’ve had zero leaks. A big thumbs up from me!

Ok, let’s say that I am completely new to the menstrual cup universe. This is the first time I try one and I have chosen it looking at the reviews. So I am here to say something more. I have practiced just a few times before my period so it was quite strange at the beginning but not difficult at all! I have learned how to introduce it but I was so worried about the removing process so it took me a little bit longer to understand. The second day of the period was the moment I decided I will never go back to pads: this cup is easy to use, remove, clean and wear – I have used while running, sleeping and doing whatever I normally do (as any women on this planet). I can’t feel it – it is like not wearing it. And I have to change it just 3 times during the days the flux is more intense (compared to the 6 pads at least I used before). I strongly recommend this cup!!

Finally decided to make the switch after having my son and using reusable nappies with him and reusable breast pads. Wish I’d changed sooner! So easy to use, can be strange the first time but then you soon don’t notice it. Easy to clean, great bag to store it in and clear instructions. Definitely recommend

I would take a pic but I’m using the cup as we speak lol. I love it! Easy to insert and easy to take out personally. I insert it whilst I’m in the shower for easy insertion and take out in a squat position, I push down into stomach muscles when I take it out as I find that it comes out easier when theres pressure. Overal bonus is no more tampons, guilt free!

I love using the menstrual cup in general. This one works for me, I haven’t tried others tho.
My period can be very heavy or very light. On the heavy days sometimes it happened that it leaked a bit but I think it probably is my fault (I find it a bit harder to put it wellwhen everything is super wet).

I bought this menstrual cup as I wanted to find a more eco friendly period product and also a more healthy and safe choice for my body. I was apprehensive at first with insertion and removal but after the first few times I got the hang of it and now it is a little life saver!
So comfortable I forget I am even wearing it, can leave it in for up to 12 hours so can just forget about it. The only leak I’ve had is when I hadn’t inserted it high enough but once I rectified that, there has been no other leaks! and that is so good considering prior to getting the cup I have to use tampons and pads and sometimes would bleed through my tampon within 2-3 hours. So happy with it, will never use tampons again.

Great product once you’ve mastered how to fit it properly, definitely worth persevering with. Love the fact that it only has to be changed every 12 hours and that it’s environmentally friendly. It can be a little tricky to remove if it rides up a long way. Would definitely recommend!

If you get the correct size this is a 100% leak proof and saves you so much more than buying sanitary towels or tampons. The cup lasts 2 times longer than an average tampon and doesn’t have the danger than a tampon does. It’s smell free too so you don’t have to worry about that compared to a sanitary towel! Beats both period methods for a long run! So I’m in 100% trust of this company in taking great care of female monthly needs! Thank you so much for this. Saving money big time! 🙂

    *****High Cervix Ladies Beware******
I’m brand new to the menstrual cup world, and with irregular periods I sometimes find myself without sanitary products at home (I forget to stock up) so I figured the cup would be a great investment.

As a newbie I had no problems inserting the cup, it was comfortable and unnoticeable to wear and I had no leaks.

Removing the cup was a different story.
I found myself trapped in the bathroom and attempting to give birth to my new silicone friend.
I tried every position known to man, I squatted and bared down until I couldn’t feel my legs and had broken out in a cold sweat that left my hair stuck to the back of my neck.
I was getting desperate and looked around the bathroom for anything that could assist, but tweezers seemed too risky, I even considered asking my husband to help.

30 minutes after I started I finally succeeded in retrieving the cup.

I did some research after my adventure and it turns out I have a high cervix.
As much as I loved this cup, we are just not meant for eachother.

What can I say…. wow, this is a game changer for me. I was initially a little apprehensive to use this and the thought put me off. I thought i would give it a go, I hate using sanitary towels and the heavy feeling of tampons so thought I would try this I love it… this is my second period using the Athena cup now and it’s great.
I find it easy to use, granted it took me a few times to insert it to ensure the suction was done, I find it easier to raise one leg on the toilet and sort of fold the cup in half and fold it inside, quick check to check it’s in right and away you go… I wore a pantie liner just in case but now I can be confident not to. It’s environmental friendly no waste of tampon and towels for land fill. It’s discrete no string hanging down. You can use for up to 12 hours on a lighter day and it can be used overnight with no smell at all. Even on heavier bleeding day it’s fine. No leakage. It’s a little fiddly to pull out and empty but the pros out way the cons.

Give it a try ladies it has changed my views on the little cups….

I would recommend this item as it’s more comfortable than pads or tampons and it’s super easy to clean and remove. The little bag to store the cup is discrete and compact than you can just pop it into your bag in between usage so you’ll never get caught short again!

The athena cup was a bit tricky to remove which made me feel anxious. However I read that some people tie a piece of string on the end to help pull it out and it has worked really well. I can barely feel it and don’t need to empty it all day. Will never go back to using tampons and pads.

This was my first ever menstrual cup… I’ve just changed from the implant to the coil and wanted to be prepared for regular periods for the first time in years… BUT I wanted to ensure my decision did not negatively affect the environment. Menstrual cups i knew took some getting used to, and I’m not always great at the removal yet… But taking your time and staying relaxed are key. Omg, what a brilliant little cup!
I’d been umming and ahhing about using a cup for years. I take warfarin which effects my periods and having to recently stop using progesterone and having to go back to all natural, well I was getting fed up with tampons and pads. Getting sore and thrush every month was getting too much. So I decided if I’ve got live for the 10+ years of having monthly periods, I want them to work for me and to stop having such a negative impact on me. Well I ordered the small cup and had a leak on my first night/heaviest day so the company kindly sent me the bigger cup after contact. It has been a complete life changing experience! The cramps are not as bad, not getting all dried out down there! Feel secure enough to not have to stay homebound for the whole week! After a couple of times getting use to inserting (the punch down fold I found way better) and the removal (make sure you break the seal!!) Also making sure that the cup is under the cervix (I didn’t know that the blighter moved during your period!) So I think I ended up with it dunking in the up and beside the cup! But once you get familiar with yourself down there it was no problem. I had no more leaks. I was secure and was the first time I actually felt happy whilst menstruating. So if you are in doubt, I’d say give it ago. It will be the best thing you do. (Also saving all that tampon and pad waste too, is a plus)

I was definitely sceptical before use but am a total convert! Extremely comfortable to use with no leaks which considering it was my first use really impressed me! I ride horses daily and it caused no discomfort. Added bonus is the environmental aspect from not using tampons and better for my body.

  32. Beatris0780 says:

The best thing I have bought in a long time! The cup is soft, very easy to insert using the fold down method and has absolutely improved my period. Overall I have found it very comfortable, totally leak proof (when used correctly) and find it amazing that I can leave it in for 12 hours so you can go about your day without any worries. It is only a very small amount of extra hassle for a long term pay-off. I also love the colour (blue) and the pouch you get with it.

If you are concerned about how to insert and remove it, there are plenty of very helpful youtube demonstrations and discussions which will guide you through your first time of using. I highly recommend trying it out a few times before you use it for the ‘main event’.

You have to ensure that it has unfolded correctly inside you which is very easy to check and rectify if it hasn’t. Getting it out is a little trickier but I have personally found it more comfortable to remove than a tampon. The trick is to relax and pinch the base, gently twisting and pulling until it comes out.

    Definitely recommend!

I did have my reservations about this product before using/buying. However after having taken the dive I am generally very pleased with this product, it is fairly easy to insert and and remove and protects me from any leakages. I would definitely recommend this product to anybody currently sitting on the fence. I am so glad that I am no longer putting harmful products inside of my body, saving myself quite a substantial amount of money And doing that bit extra for the environment at the same time… It isn’t 100% perfect but I really am genuinely happy with this product and will never go back! I hope this honest review encourage other wonderful Women to just go for it. The last thing I would like to add is by writing this review the Athena cup team are donating two menstrual cups to women in Nigeria Who do not have the same luxuries as you and I…if that’s not encouragement I don’t know what is. “The first application might require a good ten minutes to figure out the correct way but then it’s pretty straightforward. The stem is short so wearing the cup is comfortable: honestly you forget you’re using it. Whichever is your heaviest flow day make sure you wear a small pad too, as I feel it’s 95% leak proof… or maybe I haven’t yet figured out the best way to avoid this. The overall experience is that I feel much cleaner and free with this cup than with any other period product. I have used this cup for two months only and I’ve started promoting it to my friends already!”

This is the first period cup that I’ve tried, I like it a lot and I think this will be my only way to go from now on. It is comfortable and fits well. However, as the handle tip of this cup is quite short, I find very hard to take it out and it freaked me out it is completely gone inside me! (I’m 27 and no children). So as much as I like it, I will have to change to another brand with longer handle.

I’ve just used this for the second month running and it’s changed my periods completely.

It was weird using it the first time, it seems strange to insert something like this. For the first few days of the first period I used it, it took me about 5 minutes in the morning and evening and was a bit of a faff but I didn’t think about it in between. I’m much quicker at it now, and not nervous. I’ve been able to leave it and just empty at morning and evening, it’s brilliant.

I have a high cervix so was a bit worried but it’s very straightforward. For me the best thing, apart from the environmental benefits, is that i wore it swimming and running, and since having children this hasn’t been straightforward for me at my time of the month.

    Don’t hesitate, make the change!

I’d been thinking about one for ages before finally biting the bullet. I have no idea what I was worried about as it’s been a total game changer!
I watched endless videos and read endless advice before using it. It took a few attempts to get it right but once I did it was amazing and you can easily forget that you are even on it is so comfortable. The first time trying to remove it, it had worked its way up alittle and I panicked a bit but all the advice about bearing down actually does work and a pinch at the base and it was out. I suffer with very heavy periods and it really has been a revelation not to have to be changing pads and tampons every hr or so and without the fear of leaking.

I’m really glad I invested in this menstrual cup overall. I can’t usually feel it, I got used to insertion/removal after a couple of months of use and for the most part, it works great. I’ve left it in for up to 24 hours before with no problem on lighter days (though that’s not something I’d recommend doing regularly as it stains the cup). It makes periods much easier. It has leaked a few times though, even when I was sure that I’d inserted it properly. Insertion can also be a nuisance and removal can be painful when you’re not used to using a cup.

Other then that, I felt very confident throughout my monthly, NO leakage, no discomfort, in for up to 12 hours is a huge bonus so have told all my sisters & female friends, have been raving about it, am thrilled, only wish I’d discovered thos product years ago !

Love this cup. First time trying a menstrual cup, was a bit hesitant at how to work out which would be best for me. I knew I needed something small yet flexible and this is perfect. Takes a while to work it out, basically fold it up and twist it and wait to hear or feel the suction, it can stay folded also but as long as it’s suctioned on it great. Only issue is that the cup has become stained from the use which is a bit annoying as doesn’t look great but it still it really good and you can’t feel it. So eco friendly too!

I am a big fan of menstrual cups and this one is no exception. However, I found it slightly too soft for my liking. For example, the moon cup is much more rigid, which I find easier when it comes to inserting. As for this cup, the size is good for me (no kids) and it’s easy to remove once one can grab the little stem and wriggle it out — be careful though not to squeeze it too much as that might lead to spillage. If you have not used a menstrual cup before, this might be a good one to start with as its reasonably priced.

I like the smooth feel of the cup. After a few attempts, I managed to work out the correct way of inserting it. Once you know, it’s really simple. It’s nice knowing you can leave it in longer than tampons and I didn’t find it messy at all. Never going back to pads or tampons

I bought this as a replacement to the ‘moon cup’ after a years use. I found it to be much more comfortable than the moon cup. It is super easy to insert and remove. Once it’s in you can’t feel it, plus it doesn’t leak. Win wi

I liked that the product is soft silicone and not the harder material, it conforms to body shape well and springs right back. The carry bag is also really handy as it fits inside a hold-all nicely for lighter travel so you don’t have to worry about carrying numerous pads.

I was unsure how I was going to get on with his after reading mixed reviews. But I can honestly say it’s brilliant, no more tampons so I’m saving on plastic waste. Once in you really don’t know it’s there, much comfier than a tampon and so easy to use once you’ve had a couple of attempts.

Slightly apprehensive before using my Athena cup but got used to it very quickly. Feels so much better than using sanitary pads or tampons. Would recommend this to any woman!!

I like it coz i don’t have to buy tampons anymore. Being an S+ tampon user due to heavy periods, this really saves me spending on a box every month. Not to mention, avoiding potential Toxic Shock Syndrome. I’m not sure whether it’s the product itself or my anatomy or the heaviness of my period but if i don’t empty it regularly, especially on the heaviest day, it leaks quite a bit that i have to use a pad still just in case. As a 1st time user, tbh it wasn’t easy to use as the box said, it took abit of getting used to. For those who are willing to give the cup a try, patience is needed. You won’t regret it.

I’d been thinking about giving a cup a try for a while, wanting to save money and reduce waste, but when you’re used to tampons and pads it seems like a big leap to make the change. I chose this cup as it was cheap enough to not feel like a waste of money if I didn’t get on with it. I got the smallest size (35 yes old, no children) as it was the size recommended for light to medium flow.

At first I struggled to insert the cup correctly – this is quite a soft cup and the “C” fold didn’t really seem to work for getting the cup to fully open. I did some research on folding methods and gave it another try with a “7” fold – this worked perfectly for me me. Then I was away, and I would call myself a cup convert!

At first I used it alongside a pad incase of leakage, but after the first day I trusted it enough to go without. I’d read people saying that you can just forget about your period when using this, and you really can go all day without needing to tend to it (if your flow allows I suppose). I’ve always had a bit of leakage with tampons, but literally not a drop of leakage with this. I’m sure that cups wouldnt be for everyone, but you don’t know unless you try, and I’ve found this a great cup for testing the water.

TL;DR – great first cup for seeing if menstral cups are for you

Upgraded to the Athena cup after using a cheaper one for couple of years (accidentally dropped it and didn’t feel comfortable just boiling the heck out of it!) I’m kind of annoyed that I didn’t get one earlier because it genuinely doesn’t leak. There was a bit of trial and error with my previous one but as the Athena is sturdier than my previous one, it does all the fitting faff for you. Let’s hope I don’t drop this one!

After 4 plus years of switching to menstrual cups instead of tampons, it was tricky finding the right cup. I can now say I have found the one. I got the pink colour. Now why do i love the athena cup.

    Pros:
It has no odour after use, once you clean her properly
There is no stain left unlike the others I’ve used
It is comfortable to insert, and take out
For someone with heavy periods like mine, it can last a good few hours before you have to empty
It doesnt cause cramps like some do, and you dont feel like your V is being pulled apart.

    Cons.
I can see no fault at all with it.

I have been thinking about getting one of these for a while but kept putting it off because I thought it might be uncomfortable and a bit gross. How wrong was I!
I finally bought one and it has genuinely exceeded expectations.
Very comfortable and easy to use. It really is leak proof and it makes you feel cleaner than any tampon or pad I ever used before.
    Bottom line, highly recommend!

Only on my second day of using but insertion and removal is proving easy, it’s just not popping open as easily as I expected, but a few fiddles with the base and it does! I can feel the stem a little every now and again, but I have no doubt its because I’m not great at positioning yet! Fully happy and know I will work out the tiny kinks with more practice.

I found it softer than my lunette cup, however on the first use it took a bit of working out the best way to fold it to make sure it opened as a C fold didn’t work, but after that it’s been great!

This is the first cup I’ve ever used and so far so good. There were some leaks but that might have been because I’m not used to using it yet. The product comes in a fabric bag for storage and looks well made

First time using a menstrual cup and i am very impressed!!!
Took a bit of time to figure out how to insert it and take it out but since then no problem! No leaks and holds very well! Great way to follow your menstrual flow too! Love it and great way to reduce plastic waste!
Also, love how it came with a little bag to keep it clean and safe!

    Amazing!

I’ve tried several different menstrual cups over the last few years and this is the only one I’ve found totally leak proof. It’s also much more comfortable, softer and easier to use than some other brands.

I’ve been wanting to try menstrual cups for the longest time but have put it off and put it off due to fear! I’ve had sensitivity issues in the past down below and was genuinely terrified to try these. But since having my daughter, tampons have been really uncomfortable (constantly feel like they are slipping out and I can feel them all the time) and pads just leave you feeling gross. I finally went for the Athena cup (mainly because they had a satisfaction guarantee and lots of good reviews) and then it sat in my bathroom cupboard for quite some time. I finally got the courage to try it, petrified it would disappear inside me never to return again. How wrong I was! I first tried putting it in in the shower using the ‘punch down’ fold. A bit strange at first but I was quite surprised at how easy it seemed to go in and also how I couldn’t feel it at all (I was totally expecting to be able to feel it like the tampons)…I thought I must have done it wrong as it all seemed too easy. I guess it remained in place with no leaks for about 7hrs but then started leaking. I thought maybe it had moved or it wasn’t in quite right but in actual fact, I think it was full and overflowed as when I took it out it was FULL (I thought that wasn’t meant to happen? Maybe it is a really heavy month?). Anyway, on day 3 of using it now, I am absolutely amazed and am SO glad I finally had the guts to try it. It is so great, so clean (apart from the taking out part – think i need some practice) and now on day 3/4 I put it in in the morning, take it out to clean and replace at night and it’s like I’m not even on my period, what a difference!!

If you are scared or reluctant to try it, be brave…if it’s the right one for you, it will change your life!!

managed to get it to work from the first time I used it no issues at all and i really had thought there would be some it sounded so fiddly! In reality just pinch it flat fold it in half then insert like a tampon wiggle a bit once its in to get it o pop back open and your done. Taking it out the first couple of times was maybe messy but once i realised to release the suction then remove upright even that was not an issue.

I love this, I can’t feel it, I’ve emptied it 4 times in 24 hours, no leaks, no mess, AMAZING. I’ve googled for some time, read reviews etc, and I kept putting it off. For 15 I thought it was worth a go! I’m 39, one child born by csection and I bought size 2. The wee bag is super cute too. I wish I’d got it earlier in life!! I also have a copper coil and no issue with the strings. LOVE IT! The only slight issue was trying to share my excitement with my husband who wasn’t as enthusiastic about hearing the details

I really liked that Athena have a guarantee to make sure you get a cup that fits/suits you. I was lucky enough to have a great fit with the Athena first time. I previously tried this product from a different company and it wasnt a good fit for me, I didnt want to waste my money again so it was great to know that they are willing to make sure the customer has the right product for them. The product was much easier and cleaner to use than I anticipated, I will definitely be recommending it.

This is my forst ever mestrual cup and this one seems to be working fine with no leaks. I ordered size 1 as I didn’t deliver my children naturally but having very heavy periods I have to empty/clean the cup every 2 hours. I really don’t mind as usually have to change a pad every hour for the first 2 days and they leak a lot. I found inserting the cup straight foreword, removing it no so much. I had to watch few you tube videos to learn some tricks. I found the removal of the cup to be a messy job, hope it will get easier with time.

This is genuinely the best thing I have ever bought. I am never using a pad or tampon again. So much better for the environment, soooooo much more comfortable than tampons or pads I forget it’s there. No pain, not messy. I feel so much more hygienic and I dont even get slightly nervous about leaks (I’m fairly heavy). If you’re umm-ing and err-ing as to whether to make the change to a cup I highly recommend it. In the long run you save an absolute fortune and it takes almost all unpleasant experiences that you have during that time of the month out of the equation. No mess, never stressing as to whether you’re prepared with enough supplies before leaving the house, so easy to clean. So soft as well, very very comfortable. I never write reviews but this is something that needs to have an absolutely glowing one!!

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersTotally converted. Was really sceptical and frankly disgusted by the thought of one initially. Then wanted to be more eco friendly and all my friends were raving about menstrual cups. Tried for the first time recently and it really is leak proof (unless cup is full), can’t feel anything and overall much cleaner than dealing with pads and tampons.

I’ve never considered a cup before, but honestly this thing has changed my life!
Periods are shorter and cleaner (now that I’ve gotten used to how to insert). A quick YouTube search was needed when I first got this, just to make sure I was doing it right. But seriously, this is one purchase you’ll definitely not regret.
I am now on a mission to convert all the women in my life, I can’t believe anyone would prefer traditional products after trying this a couple of times

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThis cup has changed my periods forever – I’m not being dramatic I promise!
I was so sceptical about this product but if you’re comfy with your own blood then you’re fine..
Last night was the best sleep on my period I’ve ever had, I normally can’t sleep because I’m paranoid about leakage but the cup felt so secure (even for a heavy bleeder like myself) and there was no drips in the morning..
You can leave it in for up to 12 hours so you don’t even need to worry about fiddling with it in a public bathroom.. 10/10 recommend

It doesn’t feel like I’m on my period at all! In the last few days when my flow is quit light I can leave it in for longer without having to worry about toxic shock. Also really effective with heavy flow in the first few days 🙂

This cup puts me in charge of my period, instead of unreliable messy smelly towels and tampons. Since the birth of my youngest in 2015 I have suffered from some very heavy irregular periods, these have been made slightly more bearable by using the Athena Menstrual Cups. I don’t have any leaks, and it’s good when I’ve been to see my Dr can actually tell them what my blood loss has been. Another plus no more expensive purchases of towels and tampons, or finding you don’t have enough in the middle of the night.

I’ve been using this cup for two months and it’s really amazing. I bought it because the other one that I had, it was so difficult to collocate. Now I really feel the difference. I’m so really happy for this.
