This makes a great machine for consuming content from any source. If you’re looking to browse the web, watch video’s or listen to music, or stream films and tv this little machine will do it. It’s quickly set up and great for this purpose. I was looking for a small device that will be capable of Windows or Linux installs that I could use as a learning tool. 4k via HDMI means this will connect to any TV or Monitor and should work fine for almost all purposes.
I would say the only downside would be that the power supply while USB C needs 12volts so I wouldn’t use anything else beyond the one supplied to power it.
It is tiny, but it’s packs a punch.
I bought this to run Subsonic 24/7 and it’s more than enough.
I control it via VNC and my web browser, I don’t need a keyboard and mouse. So I can take over anywhere in the world.
Awesome little PC, it won’t set a record benchmark, but it’s small enough to fit in your pocket, fast enough for web browsing and if you wanted it to, you could run it as a web server, Apache2, PHP, SQL. It has a fan that does make a little noise, but it won’t interfere with your enjoyment.
I love it!
Bought this to complete my retro gaming mini pc set.
I’ve watched plenty of videos on YouTube all about the “super console x mini pc” but with a hefty price tag i thought I’d try and put one together at the cheapest way possible.
So with the hard drive bought along with the controller the Chuwi was the only missing piece. So with a voucher of 30 from Amazon,it stood me less than 170.
After setting it up,it works perfectly.. actually,it works better than i could of ever hoped for. Definitely worth picking up if you are doing the same thing as i am.
Husband was over the moon with his birthday present. He’s been looking at it since February
i was using a raspberry pi 4 (8gb) for a kitchen tv desktop and it was a slow buggy experience.
switching to the larkbox and its so much better, i can watch 4k youtube no problem, play on xcloud, stadia and steam streaming.
The larkbox is totally fast enough and such a small box, windows 10 updated to 21h1 no problem.
remotedesktop, skype with cam it all works.
there was a small issue with the tv showing “no signal” when coming back from standby, this was solved by disabling “instant on” on the tcl tv.
highly recommended.
After using it for a while for some fun and personal projects, this little box has been so handy when it comes to entertainment and more.
My intention for the CHUWI was as a media box… something that handle being a Plex, TVHeadend server, and an emulation gaming device. I instantly through another 512GB M.2 SSD making it dual boot between it’s native Windows OS and another Linux distro giving me best of both worlds.
After setting up various bit’s of software, adding a gigabit USB 3 network adapter, it has no problems being a media sever, including transcoding on the fly so I can happily watch home videos on the go or over at a friends.
The Larkbox is also an awesome little low end emulation device, being able to run everything up to a GameCube with relative ease. Considering I picked this up for 150, I really can’t complain. A lot of people would probably by Pi4 for similar purposes, but the Larkbox Pro kicks it ass easily. It maybe a bit more expensive, but factor in cases, peripherals, SD cards and more, you’ll probably end up spending more on the Pi than you would think.
If you looking for a lite weight, mini, project PC that surfs the web, plays 4k video perfectly, and allows you to do so much more with breaking a sweat, then the Larkbox Pro is a go.
Great little pc for web browsing, game streaming via geforce now. Also not bad at 4k video playback on YouTube.
The fan can be annoying it will ramp up every couple seconds nothing major though considering the form factor.
Lovely mini PC.
Yes, the fan can run quite often, you can see this is due to the CPU and heatsink being connected by a thermal pad rather than direct connection.
Easy to transport between home and the office too, just throw it in a bag and you’re good to go.
Easily disassembled with the right heads – some inside standoffs need a socket adapter to remove.
Added an m.2 SATA drive to the internal connecter.
I blew away the preinstalled windows home and added Windows Pro – if you plan to do this get the drivers off first and add them to a installer ISO.
So far so good – impressive little machine if not a little noisy. (I expect others out there will start posting solutions for improving the cooling – A mini laptop cooler pad would be ideal 🙂 )
Tiny yet more than adequate for standard PC usage. USB-C port unlikely to be useable for data unless you have a 12v power pass through dock. Has a small cooling fan noise but not to intrusive.
The PC itself was great for basic applications. My major concern here is that I’ve been asked about the ‘sheerness’, ‘thickness’ and ‘warmth’ of the product.
This suggests that it’s been switched. If it’s the CHEWI PC, then it’s great. if it’s anything else, then this review was garnered under false pretences.
Since owning this computer I have been able to play low end games on it, use it for all kinds of web browsing and office work.
The build quality is very good and keeps near enough silent for the entire time.
I would recommend this product to anyone who needs a small factor, general pc.
I will probably buy the next version up as well if that comes out.
Not a replacement for gaming desktops, but the Chuwi will do it as a simple word processing and streaming replacement. I’ve connected it to my TV to access websites/streaming services that I normally don’t have access to on apps. 4K streaming is solid, although it might have a few pauses while starting up the video. All round, good! It’s incredibly small and you can take it with you easily wherever you go! Bluetooth connection is solid – connected to my wireless keyboard and mouse without an issue!
Works well. No ethernet port. Noisy intermittent fan. Runs cool. Strangely it’s powered via a type-C usb
I bought this just to see how good such a small device could be; I mainly use it to watch videos etc. as I attached it to my TV with the mount (supplied). The fan does make a faint noise, but with a video playing its not noticeable. I have a bluetooth keyboard with a trackpad and it performs fine, so easy to use as a PC at the same time. Skype & zoom calls were smooth. If you don’t need the portability of a laptop it would be easy to hook up to a hotel TV if you are travelling as it’s small enough to throw into an overnight bag. A USB hub will expand it’s capability: ie ethernet and web cam or general purpose USB devices etc. Overall I’m very happy with it.
I use it plugged into my TV with HDMI.. and wireless keyboard / track pad.
Runs very well.. plenty fast enough for YouTube etc… Amazon Prime movies.
Very pleased.
Decent for everyday tasks, 4k works well. Emulation works alright but with a fair bit of tweaking if u want to run at 1080p… HLSL off in mame etc… retroarch Ps1 x1 internal Rez only etc. All in all- definitely worth the money, but maybe not quite powerful enough to be a dedicated emulation machine… definitely close though.
Ps. Would definitely advise putting in high performance power mode or enabling ultimate performance mode
I enjoyed the form factor of the device very compact and delightful. Sadly the graphics chip had failed. Unit crashed often rendered useless. Amazon setup a return and got a refund, may reconsider buying a new one soon. Played a few older games fine Ghost Recon 2 at 800*600 on low detail just fine etc.
Shocked at how small it is. But works brilliantly. Seems to have enough processing power to do everything I need. I bought it to do Zoom calls plugged into my TV, combined with a wireless keyboard/mouse and a webcam. No problem with that. Boots up quickly, no obvious lag in using. Clearly, it wouldn’t be suitable for heavy duty work like photo editing but it’s great when you want something small to use in a place you don’t want a large PC.
Some comments mention the fan. It does come on about half the time. The noise level and pitch is similar to a mosquito flying round the bedroom at night. If the PC is on a desk right next to you, you’ll hear it but it’s not noticeable across the room.
One warning: the description mentions it having a fully functioning USB-C port. Which may be true, but that is also the port the power pack plugs into. So it’s really limited to the two USB 3.0 ports. That’s not a problem but if, like me, you want to buy a dongle to you can plug it into an Ethernet connection, get a USB A dongle not a USB C one.
Overall, a good buy. You can get micro PCs for less money but this one has a fast enough processor and enough ram to actually be useful.
I thought it would be as quick as a cheap laptop, so wrong it runs like grease lightning, transfers files faster than my gamming rig, also has no problem playing 4K video on my 55 inch TV (probably down to its small size, electricity has less distance to travel ; )..), incredible compact PC.
A good and surprisingly capable unit, won’t find much better for the size, it is tiny!
Using this mini pc as daily work driver. Running it in dual boot – win10/Ubuntu. Works great, no major complaints – the one being the fan pulsing now and again. Passive cooling would be a major improvement next revision. Added a cheap m.2 drive, works well.
A youtube review highlighted this device to me. Wow. I was so please with it. It is tiny! It would be amazing to bolt to the back of your TV with the supplied bracket and screws and use your TV as a media centre perhaps. Although the spec of this little machine is not suitable for software development I have used it to RDP to a dev machine hosted in Azure which works fine. Also, for web browsing, you tube, iPlayer etc it is pretty snappy and does the job just fine. I had planned to carry it on holiday instead of carrying a heavy laptop with me. However it needs a screen which can be connected over the built in HDMI port to your TV/Monitor, but for portable computing I have an Asus MB16AC USB monitor that I needed to connect through the USB port. The Asus connects over USB 3.0 (of which device has 2 ports). However, I found that there is not enough power to run that particular monitor over USB. I then tried a USB powered hub to see if that would drive the monitor. I managed to get the Asus to act as a second monitor but not as a primary display. The device boots up and Windows assigns the primary monitor to the HDMI port even if you don’t connect anything to that port. It didn’t suit my needs so unfortunately I had to sent it back.
My only real complaint that may effect most people is the fan noise. It goes on and off constantly (possibly every minute) so that may annoy you as it is a little distracting. I gave it 5 stars as if you can live with the HDMI requirement and fan it is a bit of a bargain.
Does its job perfectly. Needed for an additional wfh station on an ultrawide 3440 x 1440. Works great, runs GeForce now nicely as well. Great with Citrix.
Amazing size, never thought it would be this small. I am using it with my 85 inch screen TV and the picture quality is brilliant.
If you want a tiny little pc, this is a tiny pc. pretty quick, mega low power. Good media streamer
Amazon wanted a star rating for ‘thickness’ and ‘warmth’ I would say it’s as thick as I wanted and the warmth is just righ
Small and powerful for what it is. I use it as a pc to stream audio to a USB dac but you could use it as an everyday pc. The unit is tiny, nothing prepares you for how small it is when you unbox it! The only negative is probably the cooling fan, not overly noisy but it has 2 modes, off and on. So it’s either silent or on full spin if the cpu has any activity. Could be irritating if you were sat close to it.
Tiny little thing, smaller than a beer mat but perfect for browsing, email and retro/emulation gaming. The little celeron does the job asked of it well enough, without issue.
There was problems seemingly at first and it did take a long time installing updates and kept failing. I nearly got to the point of installing a brand new windows in there but after a day of frustration it seemed to settle down and I absolutely love it! I cant believe its a better cpu than my laptops. The fan turns annoyingly on an off, can get loud/whiney when near even when cpu temp is just 50 degrees.
I believe max cpu temp is 105 degrees so dont think it needs on at 50. Anyway with a usb 3 hub and across the room this is absolutely perfect. It stuggles with high quality 4k in room next door to router but unless you are try to push it then you probably wont notice. I would recommend and would buy another.
Excellent solid piece of equipment . Just the right amount of power for a non gaming computer . And why bother cloud gaming is here !
Crazy small in size and just the ticket for our most recent client provisioning. Mountable to supported monitors via the included vesa mount bracket, they stay out of the way, off the desk/floor. Performance is excellent and all you’ll need for daily office work.
I have tried several other mini pcs but none had the graphics and cpu power to run SKY GO,
This tiny pc did!!
Runs Win 10 extremely well and the the fan is quiet.
Best to choose mini pc with a fan as those without do get uncomfortably hot.
I’m 100% Apple for work and play, but I was intrigued by the size of this device and the tempting price. I just wanted to see what a device of this proportions could offer. It’s impressive for its size, but the 5.83Gb of useable RAM has major limitations. Windows 10 Home seems to run just fine, though Windows Updates seem to take just as long as I remember from my pre-Mac days! Set up was very straightforward and easy. I was able to connect a four socket USB port expander – it comes with two, so you could just put the keyboard and mouse plugs in those, but I like to have a spare for a thumb drive or additional device. Seems to pick up the online versions of Word, Excel, etc, and provides easy access to OneDrive for cloud storage, but everything is rather pedestrian for professional working. Overall, surprisingly capable for the size, but really something for first timers or casual users on a limited budget.
The overall 4 stars is really for a well presented, well packed, and well thought out little unit that does work, but with the limitations outlined above.
Excellent is all I can say.
This review is for the LarkBox Pro
Don’t get me wrong, it is not the most powerfull pc out there, but I wanted something small (portable) that would allow me to do most office type work and some internet browsing, emails and streaming.
It does all those in spades. Word, excel, outlook, browsing, anti virus don’t bat an eyelid.
Movie streaming works well
I was looking at a pc that was twice the price before I stumbled upon this one.
