This is the first doorbell camera I’ve had, so not sure whether I was expecting too much.
I’ve had it set on medium PIR sensitivity and it sends me loads of notifications to my phone. However, most of the time whoever walked by my door isn’t in the picture. I think it is too slow to capture the movement on camera unless the person/car is right in front for a few seconds.
The quality of the video is fine and the night time vision is good. You can turn the live capture on and watch and listen to what’s going on on demand.
It is useful to talk to delivery men when you aren’t at home and give them instructions.
However, sometimes the camera won’t wake on demand, like it loses connectivity and can’t “establish an encrypted channel”.
Easily linked to Alexa, so it will also shout out when the bell is rung.
Battery life could be better. I’ve had it for under a month and it’s now down to 40%. I guess if you set PIR to Low, it will consume less battery.
It sometimes takes a bit long to connect but that may be down to my WiFi brilliant peice of ki
Certainly better with than without. Quality of the video is good. Response time is also reasonable. Easy to set up.
So easy to set up, great pics, recordings and you get to talk through it too, great when your not i
It was very easy to install and motion detection is very useful to be vigilant around your porch.
it comes equipped with a built-in speaker and mic so easy to speak to someone outside and instruct them if we are not at home.
Overall, highly recommended as it is much affordable and excellent in overall functionality.
Easy to install once you can google utube to watch how to set up
This package arrived on time, much more better than expected, very clear pictures easy to install and charge and no problems with the device
We don’t actually use this for a doorbell, we just use the camera function for our outdoor rabbit run. Works really well. Connects to phone easily, motion detection is great as well. Really clear pictures and the battery seems to last well! Overall very pleased with this.
Quite hard when using rewind keeps going forward too quick can’t see full person just last part.otherwise good item.
Much cheaper than other products and works perfectly. Video displays instantly on my echo show 15 and has full alexa voice commands. Would highly recommend.
I am so happy with this, I have broken my hip and trying to answer the door is a nightmare so this product is brilliant. I had a problem with the battery I contacted the seller and they were really good and it turns out that I didn’t charge it long enough
This is a reasonable price and you don’t need to pay extra if you don’t want too.
I used the smart life app as already installed.
Set up before you install as pairing needs the qr code on the back.
This has basic settings and you can get real life vision from anywhere. You can also get email and phone notifications.
The camera has auto night vision.
The camera is rechargeable and lasts around 2 months on a single 10 hour charge
The camera quality is decent .
Unfortunately tho I get alot of sun glare and humid causing fog which pretty useless.
I have not tried linking to Google or alexxa so can’t comment on tha
Good camera a lot better than previous make and I think better than more expensive ones in market
Clear picture
Easy to install!
Great value for money, easy to use and works excellent!
Highly recommended it!
Installation was easy, and once you worked your way around the app it was easy to set up. Very sensitive on motion, so took a bit of adjustment but now perfect.
The motion detection is a bit random, it can sometimes be set off by a bird on the lawn yet other times completely miss a car driving by, the video quality is fair, good close up but drops off at about 10 feet away, the time from bell press to phone activation is also very long, as a previous review said delivery drivers don’t hang around long so there is a good chance they would leave before you got your phone out. As a plus I do like the fact that when it does pick up someone close by it lights up, first red then blue which I believe would act as a deterrent to a would be criminal. For the price a fair piece of kit but if you can spend more it probably is worth doing so.
I returned a very well know brand of video doorbell because it wouldn’t connect to my smart home network of the same make. I picked this one as on the customer reviews the tech guys had replied to each person who raised an issue. The item was received in minimal packaging, the instructions were clear, it connected to my WiFi and the Tuya app in under 5 minutes, it also took just 5 minutes to integrate in to my smart home network. It comes with a doorbell chime that plugs in to any old usb charger you might have. I decided to mount the doorbell in my porch, installation was a breeze. The picture quality day and night is very good as well as the video. The pir sensor has 3 levels of sensitivity and activates perfectly when someone enters the porch and alerts my phone. When the doorbell is pressed the chime goes off, a verbal announcement comes over my smart home speaker, and my phone rings via the app. I can’t report on the battery life or the long term performance ye
I use this product on my front door to cover my drive area and to see who is at my door when not it. I think this camera is good value for money would recommend i
An affordable and versatile door camera. It is easy to install and use and has plenty of useful features.
This camera work well for me because it doesn’t require paying for a cloud storage subscription. I can save the recordings onto my own SD card. A lot of security cameras these days try to get you into paying for a subscription but the SD route is better and more affordable.
This camera has other excellent features: it comes with a chime so you can hear the doorbell go from anywhere in the house. It also has 2 way audio. I personally haven’t got much use out of this feature but it is good to know it is there and, when tested for this review, it worked well.
It has pretty good motion detection and is able to record in both day time and night time. The recordings are all in really good quality. The night time quality doesn’t seem as good but is sufficient to get a general gist of what is going out outdoors when it’s dark. It is compatible with Alexa and Google Home and it is simple to connect it up.
Overall, an affordable and easy to use security door camera.
Very easy to install and download the app to use. Price for a year is around 25 for a years subscription to the cloud thus having a permenant piece of evidence at hand should you get unwanted callers.
My husband loves this camera door bell. He now doesn’t have to leave the garden to answer the door, he can talk and see who is ringing the bell, he can either dismiss and ignore or answer. Fabulous tool.
he Dorrbell is very pleasing, it works straight away, I didn’t find any issue with it so far. Unfortunately, on the amazon page it is stated that you can ask alexa to talk to the front door and quote: “This video doorbell camera can be used with Amazon Alexa and Google Home. Turn on the doorbell device through Alexa or google home and watch the real-time view. You can say to Alexa: “alexa, show me the front door.” ( Alexa and google home devices not included)”. this is not true. if I ask alexa to show me the front door it says that the device doesn’t support that. if someone rings, alexa warns me that someone is at the door but it will now show any real-time view. The same works for the video of the product available on the amazon page. When the guy clicks on the doorbell, the echo device announces that someone rang and immediately the echo device shows the real-time streaming of the camera. I would like to contact the manufacturer but I seem not to be able to find anyone. if Chwares implements this function I will definitely give a 5 stars. at the moment I am very disappointed and I am really considering returning it.
Update on the 1/02/22 I changed my rating from 1 star to 5 stars because the company contacted me, with all the best intention of sorting the issue with the doorbell. They have been extremely helpful and really committed to their product. This is what, in my opinion, make the difference between a company and a great company! Although the problem, in my case, cannot be solved, due to of my return of the product just before they contacted me, I would comfortably trust them and use their service again. Thank you very much! Keep up your great work!!!!
This is a great device. Setting up is a little fiddly as you have to download the Tuya app, set up an account (if you don’t already have one). Then to connect the app to the doorbell you have to point the doorbell at a QR code in the app. That can be a bit hit and miss and took me quite a while before I got the positioning right and notification that it had connected ok.
To attach to the door/wall you can either use the enclosed sticker (which works very well on smooth surfaces) or use the enclosed template (a great idea) to drill holes. The doorbell comes with screws and matching rawplugs for brick walls to attach the wall fitting that holds the camera/doorbell. For our installation we just used the sticky pad to stick it to the middle of the PVC door.
As it is rechargeable it does not need any cables to be run (unlike many other camera doorbells). That’s a big plus! However it does mean you will need to remove the device from its wall fitting to get it inside to charge it from time to time. That is done with the special ‘key’ that inserts into the top, releasing a plastic clip which enables you to lift the doorbell off of its wall fitting. This was very difficult to do (even for me as an able bodied person) and would be probably impossible for an older person to achieve who had any strength/dexterity issues. Consider this if buying for an elderly relative/freind. Once off of its wall fitting it connects to a standard USB charger (cable supplied).
Luckily the App reports how much charge the doorbell has so its easy to know when to bring it in for a charge. Ours started at 100% and after more than two week’s use was 80%, so will probably last 2-3 months on a single charge.
The doorbell is NOT viewable on Amazon Echo Show – so you will not be able to see the doorbell camera using your show or your Firestick. It does connect to Alexa though to notify you if the doorbell detects movement outside or if someone presses the doorbell button. This worked for a couple of days for us, then lost its connection to Alexa. Since this wasn’t vital for us, we didn’t worry about re-establishing the connection.
It also comes with a remote ‘bell’ sounder which has many tones and tunes to choose from. You just plug this bell into a USB charger, pair it up with the doorbell, and then put it somewhere in the house to hear the doorbell ringing. This worked well for a day but the next day had lost its connection to the doorbell. Again we did not bother to reestablish connection as the alarm on the phone was enough to alert us to someone at the door. Note though if you are relying on a single phone to hear and interact with the doorbell, then if someone takes the connected phone out of the house, then you would need another device to connect to the camera to be alerted that someone was at the door – so these problems, while probably easily solved, are something to bear in mind when considering this doorbell.
The doorbell looks really elegant and neat. It lights up when someone approaches and rings a bell on the door so they can hear that it has rung ok. On the phone this comes in as a ‘call’ which you can either ‘hang up’ and go to the door, or ‘answer’ to talk to the person at the door. You can then have a two-way conversation with that person (and see them) before deciding whether to open the door. This two-way conversation though was very hit and miss though – when testing, a lot of the time we could not hear each other. I suspect the audio and video streams are going via a server in a far away location. If that server gets busy then it just drops part of the stream. Occasionally too it could not establish ‘an encrypted video stream’.
So overall, a bit fiddly to set up, hard to remove to recharge, not 100% reliable in operation. That all said, when it was working it did the job very well, providing a good clear view (night and day) of the outside which could be zoomed in, recorded in the app, screenshot, etc.
Super useful. Quite easy to install and use. 2 way audio. HD video quality.
I’ve been wanting one of these for a while and this one certainly never disappointed me.
The picture quality is superb.
The motion detector is on point.
The night vision works very well too.
The charge last for over a week and it takes screenshots when someone presses your doorbell and you’re able to talk through it and ask, for instance the Amazon delivery guy to leave your parcel at the door because you’re in the bath.
It’s been beaten with gales and heavy rain and it’s still holding up, it’s designed very well.
Excellent value if you ask me!
The seller kindly sent me a replacement security doorbell, the initial one was part of a faulty batch that didn’t record motion videos. This one does and I am amending my review to suit, if it detects movement it records a short video which can be viewed in playback on the timeline, motion detection is very good and it’s strength can be adjusted, the video quality is good, as is the sound quality when you use the 2 way talking system, you can answer the doorbell and talk clearly when you are away from home, you can use the doorbell with local storage rather than cloud storage so if you choose to do this there is no additional monthly fee to pay, you can watch a live stream of the camera view and manually record this if required, the doorbell does everything that the advert says to a good standard, I am very pleased with it and the customer support service is very good indeed.
Video doorbells are really useful for a number of reasons. Whether you want a bit of added security to see who is at the door before you open it up, if you’re out and want to let the postman know it’s safe to leave a parcel somewhere, or maybe you want to keep an eye on the outside of your home during the night.
To start with the basics, this doorbell arrives with two main parts: the doorbell itself and a ringer. You will also need to download software onto your phone.
The doorbell is attached outside your home using the wall bracket, wall plugs and screws included – you even get a paper template so you know where to drill the holes into the wall (the whole thing is simple and will take about 5-10 minutes). Once attached, it has a high-definition 1080p wide-angled camera that performs well in low light. The quality isn’t crystal clear, but I was impressed with the quality of the picture compared to the size of the device – both in terms of sharpness and how much it captured. For viewing on a phone screen, it’s great.
We’ve had the camera installed for about a week now and the battery has lasted fine. We didn’t pay for cloud storage, so it’s using the micro-SD card (included) to store motion data and each capture uses a pretty small amount of data, so the 32GB card should last quite some time too. All this is nice as it means you won’t been to constantly be removing the device to charge it or clear data from it.
The ringer goes inside the house and is powered by USB. If you have modern plug sockets, you will have USB ports built into them, but for most people this will mean you’ll need to get a USB to UK Plug converter and connect it to a wall socket. Once you pair it to the camera, the chime is clear and loud – you’re not going to miss it in even a fairly large house.
The software you get is fairly generic software that many companies are using these days. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, however, because we were able to use ‘SmartLife’, which is what we run our smart lights from, and so didn’t need to download any additional software. Connecting the doorbell to SmartLife was as simple as scanning the QR code on the device.
Once everything was connected, I found the software easy to use. You’ll want to spend some time adjusting the settings to your preferences, but I was really happy with the notifications when someone rang the doorbell and the ability to connect to the doorbell from my phone to see who was at the door and talk to them using my phone’s microphone/speaker and the doorbell’s microphone/speaker. You will experience a minor lag/delay whilst the devices connect to each other, but within about 5 seconds they are all in sync.
The motion capture is pretty good, it will take a still of motion and send a notification to your phone. You can then go into the app to see what is happening and record should you wish. Perhaps recording motion as a video automatically would have been better, but I guess this would drain battery/storage much quicker.
Overall, I think this is a really solid device. If you’re looking for some added security and an ability to chat with the person at your door then this is a good choice.
At time of review this video door bell is priced at 69.99 with a 5% off voucher
Everything is supplied with this door bellthe camera the ringer usb cable and screws to fix on wall.
I received the black door bell.which looks quite nice.the actual ringer bell you have to plug into a usb plugnot supplied.so for methis is going to very low down as I do not have any high up sockets..only in kitchen which are mostly used.
Down load app onto phone.and follow instructions and sets up and connects.this does say can connect to Alexa but I could not get camera to connect
Actual bell volume can be high or low and there are 20 different melodies
I struggled to install this device but a neighbour kindly assisted and used sticky double sided tape to my front door.
To install the device you must download Tuya Smart app to your phone and your phone will act as your eyes at your front door.
The audio function is really good and clear and you can have a conversation with someone at the door before deciding if you want to open it up. I’m really happy with this doorbell app.
I hope you found this review helpful
With slow internet, I’m amazed at how easy this was to set up. The app is easily downloaded and pairing it with the phone was simple. It quickly picked up motion and alerted me by phone but I find that the time between pressing the buzzer and actually getting an alert/call on my phone is too delayed (I know a courier is never going to wait that long). At first I couldn’t figure out why the ringer (which is just a USB so needs to plugged in at all times) wasn’t working but it helps if you read the instructions – just press the volume button for 6 seconds to pair and it will ring a second or two before the doorbell ringer rings so to the visitor it doesn’t seem like they’re waiting too long. With the app it makes it easy to talk to the visitor and the sound is pretty clear. I like that it gives you a screen shot when motion is detected although this might get annoying if you live on a busy street. The quality of the video is quite good and depending on the light easy to see who is there and I like that it automatically switches to night vision when it gets darker. It doesn’t let you set a zone though which would have been handy. I also like that the app shows how much battery life the unit has so you know when to recharge it which means having to take it off the backing plate on the door. Overall, I’m impressed but then I’ve not tried the likes of Ring or Hive to know how they compare.
At a basic level, the doorbell is a nice one when used with the app to show who is at the door. With the cloud storage option, you will be able to save data for a longer period of time.
Now in its basic form it will be ideal for example for those who may take some while to get to the door, my grandparents are perfect examples. Also to see who is at the door. The doorbell recognises people when they get close rather then when the press which is a nice touch.
Cloud is ideal for longer term storage, in our case not immediately needed as we have longer term CCTV which is not able to see the door directly due to overhanging porch feature hence this camera coming into use. Overall not a bad buy. I can see it has 10% off which at time of writing drops the price close to 60 which is reasonable.
Finally a relatively subtle doorbell camera which can subtly blend into my wall and not stand out too much. For around 65 at time of review, you get a doorbell, backing plate (with paper template for drilling holes), a USB powered ringer unit, a USB to micro USB cable, wall plugs with screws, and what seems to be a SIM extraction tool.
So first thing to do is to set up the main video doorbell. They recommend the Tuya app. However I had the Smartlife app already installed with most of the smart devices. Thankfully this worked just fine with it, and thus nothing extra to install. Just had to follow the pairing in the instructions, which required the doorbell to point at a QR code on the phone!
The ringer unit is USB powered, and needs pairing with the video unit. Note that there is a USB port, but no power adapter supplied, so you’ll have to have a spare one or at least an accessible USB socket providing power around.
Once set up, pressing the button makes the unit ring, the ringer ring and your phone ring. From your phone, you can choose whether to answer – if so, it connects up – though I found this could take anywhere from 2 seconds right up to 10 seconds using even just wifi to show video. A bit frustrating actually at times – however once connected you can see and talk to the person telling them to leave parcels or wait whilst you get to the door etc.
In the Alexa app, there’s the ability to alert via Alexa when someone presses the door bell. If so, you get “There’s someone at the door” speaking out of all your echo devices whenever anyone rings the bell – Works well, but I decided to turn that feature off!
The unit can record video onto a supplied 32GB micro SD card.
There’s a PIR sensor built in, so you can also get alerted on your phone if someone walks up to the door and doesn’t press the doorbell. Potentially useful as a security camera. Though you might want to consider whether you actually want that feature on – especially if you get a lot of people walking past your front door.
Installation: The screws supplied put simply are rubbish. The screws are very soft, and the heads started deforming as I tried to screw them into wood (which I’d already drilled holes for!). But before I could worry too much about whether I’d be able to unscrew them in future, the screw snapped in half, leaving something I had to painfully take out with pliers. Not risking it any more, I used 4 of my own screws instead (shorter and harder wearing).
I estimate if you have your own screws, fitting should only take about 10 minutes.
If you ever want to remove the unit (and you will to re-charge it), you need to use a SIM extract tool to push a hole in the top to release a catch to let you lift it out of the plastic bracket. Very good to prevent casual theft, though someone determined can probably still rip it off the wall causing damage in the process).
Note, I installed mine about 1.3m height to capture people at shoulder height. However once installed I realised you see adult faces but don’t see young children at all! – so keep that in mind!
One thing I didn’t like was the positioning of the power socket at the back of the unit. This means you have no way of leaving the unit permanently on charge, unless you drill a huge hole through the wall exactly where the USB port is.
Pros
– Works with smartlife App
– Can work without paying a subscription fee
– Ringing works with Alexa Echo (not tried video on an Echo show though)
– Security tab helps prevent casual theft of unit
Cons
– The screws which came with the camera were terrible and broke on installation, use your own!
– When the door bell rings and you answer, it can take a good 3-10 seconds for the video to appear.
– power cable positioning makes it near impossible to have it on the wall and plugged in permanently
– I didn’t like the white logo on the camera
– Sometimes has trouble waking up the camera if you want to view the footage adhoc from the app.
In terms of battery life. I’m going to have to wait and see, but after a day of usage it’s still showing 100% even though I’ve been playing around with it and streamed probably 5 mins of video.
In summary. For around 65 I must say this is very decent value for money. It’s not perfect and performance isn’t as good as the higher end doorbells, but for the money I must say it’s pretty good, despite the issues I’ve raised in my review.
Update 24th Dec 2021. After 3 days, the battery is still on 100%, despite having been range about 2-3 times a day. I’ll update as this drains over time…
Update 5th Jan 2021. After 2 weeks, the battery is now on 50% – this gives an estimated life of 30 days, this is without PIR active and only activating when ringing the doorbell. I’d estimate it gets used 2-3 times a day. So with an estimated 1 month battery life from my usage, I can’t see that lasting anywhere near the 2-3 months advertised. I’ll keep monitoring and update the rating if it doesn’t last…
Update 12th Jan 2021. After 3 week, battery is on 30% – still extrapolating to 30 days battery life. usage still about the same. Will wait and see…
I must admit I did struggle to pair the doorbell to my phone I spent a good while and it just wouldn’t happen I gave up and the next day I just managed to do it straight away I think it’s probably more me than the phone.
You firstly have to get the app Tuya press add device and go to doorbell and it takes you through the rest the bit I think where I went wrong was with the QR scan code is you have to turn the doorbell camera to face that and it will pair straight away.
Good night vision, clear speech you can record or do stills and store on iCloud.
Definitely well worth the money.
In the box which I like
Small door chime, though you have plug this into a usb plug..not provided. But it’s tiny, and can be set very loud and it’s clear, plug and play after you have set door bell up. Bit of a weird one this, however I expect it’s the case of not having to provide different power adapters for different countries.
Usb cable for charging, wall bracket with screws, template and instructions
Small paper clip so you ca. get bell off to charge, be careful as you could easily lose this.
Now other setup, it does not have its own dedicated app, but uses the Tuya smart app, that’s used for a lot of these products. Setup I had a bit of trouble as it use 2.4ghz to connect, my network is merged. But connected eventually.
Remember setup before you fix it onto wall, you need the QR code on the back of doorbell during installation.
What like about this product is it comes with card storage, you can pay for cloud if you wish, and have email and phone notifications as well. However if setup the Alexa sill, and download the Tuya smart app as well on other mobiles/devices with the same account you will get the notifications.
Within the app, there are basic settings for quality, etc. If you want more advanced then this does not have them. However it’s main use as video door bell, 2 way talking and video recording it does the job perfectly.
Picture is clear, Bit blocky if you look closely, though can change hd to sd but you can see who is at the door. It detects movement before the doorbell is pressed, though it would have been nice if you set zones, as it’s basically, high, medium or off.
Night settings are okay as well, clear enough.
In summary
It’s a video doorbell, with good basic settings, easy to use, easy to get off to recharge, non cloud storage or cloud if you want it.
Alexa skill link, so Alexa devices announce somebody at the door.
I would have like to see more advanced app features, zone selection. But at the end of the day, it’s pretty good against the more higher value ones.
Easy to install, 3M double-sided tape or screw hole installation. This can be installed step by step according to the instructions.
Doorbell + cat’s eye + monitoring three-in-one function.
Download “Tuya Smart” and find “Video Surveillance” in the add device, then add your smart doorbell to this app. You can always check the situation at your door on the app.
The image is stable and clear, the video is high-definition, and it can automatically detect the movement of the object. Good night vision.
But its sensing effect is so good, I keep receiving information about the movement of objects when someone is passing by.
When someone rings the bell outside, the device will emit a warning tone outside the house, which is a kind of noise in quiet moments. The indoor sound reminder does not work. When someone rings the doorbell, I can only receive the call notification of the doorbell on my mobile phone.
A phone notification will be given 2 to 3 seconds after ringing the bell.
It is undeniable that its monitoring effect is good.
Far easier to set up than had imagined it would be. Video doorbell came pretty much fully charged but I gave it a plug in to check. The back peels off to reveal the on switches and charging port. Switch on, download “Tuya smart” on the app/play store (there’s a QR code To find it but it’s just as easy to manually search).
You make an account (for some reason I had to set up an alternative email with gmail to register my account, it wouldn’t accept my usual email, wouldn’t send me codes to it). Once the account is set, you put in your wifi password and then pairing the device was very quick. Once you pair it, it connects, it asks you to scan a QR code with the camera and then the doorbell speaker with the doorbell (holding down volume until it flashes) and done.
Doorbell speaker is a bit weird as it needs a USB port with permanent electricity supply – so you’ll need an adapter for the wall as one isn’t provided. Doorbell has a few different sound options, they’re not massively loud, but pleasing to the ears.
Picture is clear, it’s not ultra HD but you can see who is at the door. It detects movement before the doorbell is even rung (so if people pass right at your door or lurk about you’ll get a pop up letting you know). Camera has night vision in low light settings, which is nice as even if the porch light isn’t on I can see who is there.
Sound quality isn’t too bad – you can speak to the doorbell, and whomever is there can speak to you as well (without needing to press the button).
Really good doorbell. I didn’t need to subscribe (if you want cloud recording and absence recording you need it I think) but if you’re home and just want to see who is there, it’s great. It’s really good for people maybe with mobility issues so they can warn their visitor they may be a moment getting to the door (or to just enter).
