How can I tell which breast shield size I need?
Elvie Pump comes with a 24mm and 28mm Breast Shield (often called a flange), sized based on the width of the base of your nipple. You can measure the width of the base of your nipple with a ruler. Always refer to the manufacturers instructions.
How should I sterilise?
Boil in water for five minutes or suitable for microwave, steam or cold water sterilizing methods. We do not recommend microwave or steam sterilizing for more than five minutes.
What is the suction strength/ how many intensity settings are there?
Elvie Pump has a similar range of suction to other Pumps on the market, with seven intensity settings, this means you can set the intensity at the level that is most comfortable for you.
I have large breasts, will it work for me?
We have lots of customers who have had success using Elvie Pump with larger breasts. Elvie Pump has been designed to fit within a standard nursing bra and the cup size makes no difference to how Elvie Pump works.
What is the capacity of the bottles?
The bottles hold 5oz or 150 mls of milk. If you fill a bottle during a session, it’s very easy to change bottles then resume pumping!

Just had twins and is difficult when both hands are tied pumping. Bought this for my wife and she uses it more than the electric pump. She’s able to walk around and do things. No a lot of parts as some reviews say. Very easy to clean and out back together. App even tells you how much milk you have pumped. This thing is pretty cool. we bought a cheaper version on Amazon and it made loud noises. This thing is quiet as can be. The electric pump is louder than this.
Fcil de usar, y saca leche que es lo importante, no hace dao y hace poco ruido
Der Akku hlt leider nicht so lange, man muss nach jedem mal pumpen eigentlich gleich wieder laden. Pumpt aber dafr sehr gut.
Been using them everyday for the past 5 months. Makes pumping so much easier and enjoyable. Love how I can pump at restaurants, church service, while shopping or driving. Slightly noisy, but not too noticeable. One charge can last for 3 sessions. HOFISH Nursing bra works really well in holding up the pumps. Doesn’t drain as well as Medela or Spectra (Which I have to use in the evening).
If you have decided to pump, buy this to gain freedom and not be tied down to a stationary pump. I bought this for my wife who had been using a plug in pump and was not enjoying having to hold or be forced to stay in one spot for long. This allowed her to have freedom to move about do other things. Also great for traveling.
I bought mine out of my HSA and have been very pleased with them. I pump in front of people regularly without anyone noticing, and even just for around the home I’ve found the convenience to be very freeing. I have a toddler as well as my baby, so anything that makes daily life easier is deeply appreciated.
The strength is decent. I was previously using a Spectra s2 on full strength, so I was worried about whether the elvie would be effective, but they’ve been great! If you try if and aren’t feeling it, check/adjust the seal and valve.
The app isn’t too bad. I had to click finished and then go back to connect the second for the first pairing. I wish it paired better automatically. If you go in, hit connect pump, then turn them on one at a time you’ll be good. If you just start and the open tge app sometimes they’ll pair, sometimes they won’t. It’s not hard to work with, though, and the app isn’t necessary in order to use the pumps.
There is a light which is on whenever the pumps are on. It isn’t visible through my nursing bra, so I haven’t really noticed it.
Great product, this was for my daughter who was recommended this because it was easy to use, delivered on time and in good condition. Good to do business with you
I am absolutely In love with my Elvie electrical pump. I was only able to afford one, but I use it all the time.
I take turns 15 min each breast. I can clean and continue with my daily routine hands free.
For weeks, I was researching the different hands-free pumps since I would be returning to work. With my first child, I lost my supply within a couple months of being back to work. In my profession, as a bartender, there is very little time to use the restroom let alone sit down and pump. I needed something on the go that would allow me to be more present.
I read so many great reviews that I was pretty convinced but still hesitant by the price tag. In the end I bit the bullet and bought the Elvie hands free pump.
The first time using it at work I was amazed. The pump is very quiet, as long as there is some ambient noise. My work partner next to me didn’t know I had them in until I asked if she could hear it. They are a bit bulky but easily solved with loose clothing (or in my case, an apron). I was still able to move around with great range of motion and work, to a certain extent. The suction is great with the right size flange with no spillage. Use a good fitting bra (it comes with bra extending clips) to help with “seal”. Charging takes about an hour and last for a couple days. The app allows you to keep track of all your pumping sessions and lets you control the settings for each pump individually. The pumps will stop at max fill as well.
I can’t rave enough about these. Worth the purchase and highly recommend!!
I’ve been using a medela for a few months and although it is reliable and gets the job done, it is really bulky and I had to stay still and connected to the power outlet while extracting. I just got my Elvie and it is really nice. The suctions is as good as medela and now I can walk and do some chores or play with my baby while extracting, so it is really helpful. Also, I can take it work easily as it’s small and easy to use, no need for wires or power outlets. I’ve never had any leakage, but I didn’t try to lie down or move too much. Only con for me is the milk volume shown in app, which is usually double the real amount. I’ve tried using a black bra with some improvment but still it is not very accurate. Not a big deal though. Overall, I really like my new pump and take it with me with ease for work.
Elvie saves my time and my life. I don’t feel as a cow who produces milk anymore. I feel as a human!
Easy way to go!
Easy to clean and you can multitask meanwhile wearing it!
But you don’t need to buy 2. One is more than enough
I’m so pleased it bought them. I was afraid it wouldn’t match my expectations for the cost but I can’t fault it.
It’s a life changer because it’s hands free and discreet. The intro videos were extremely helpful to learn how to set them up and sterilise the pieces.
This pump save me! I love it, I recommend it with 2 hands, well worth the money I spend!
Well this is a life saver. I used a Tommy Tippee thing yesterday and genuinely thought my nipples were going to fall off. This Elvie expresser is fantastic, it is really comfy and loads of milk comes out straight away. There’s a very gentle quiet pump sound. You need a proper maternity bra with a hook to wear it. My baby was due a feed and my milk has come in so that helped with the amount coming out. It is leagues ahead of the Tommy torturing device and also really great because there are no leads, wires or additional stuff to try to hold and manage while you pump. It’s a bit tricky to work out how to clean it when you are on the edge of breast feeding/ new baby melt down but I just called the helpline and they explained it to me. If you’ve got the money to buy it just buy it. It’s worth it. I’ve been watching the same episode of Bake Off for three days now, thanks to Elvie I’ll finally get to see the twenty tiered cake that Jergen is making.
i ordered single pump and they send to me duble pump I think may be because they late to send the product
thank u for that
it was a grate produc
I ordered one pump first to try. I ended up loving it and bought another. I love the convenience and freedom of using this pump. I can eat, do chores, drive, run errands, change a diaper, etc while wearing these pumps. The hard crystal plastic of the shields and milk container are easy to clean and dry. It is easy to assemble and wear, discreet and very quiet. I dont use the app, I have no need for it after using it for a couple days. ery compact as well and I plan to use these pumps when I return to work. The only con would be its battery life. I actually had a pump die mid pump. So you will need to charge frequently.
With a toddler and baby and going back to work finding time to express was becoming impossible , this was recommended it’s amazing, being able to walk around the house so jobs and express at the same time, a gift!!
First impressions so far i enjoy this pump it works really well for sitting at a desk, the suction is fairly good although seeing as with my spectra i only use suction up to 4 so this pump i usually stick between 4-5. No leakage so far that i have seen but will closely monitor as i continue to use this pump seeing as that seem to be an issue based off other reviews. Although my typical go to pump is my spectra this works well for my busy nights at work when i don’t have the time to sit in a room to pump, there is a noticeable difference were the pump is when you are only using one side but not too bad when wearing a jacket but definitely a lot more discrete compared to most pumps definitely enjoy that it is cordless as well.
I am just a few day into using this pump and plan to update after some time of using
Cleaning is a nightmare, leaks a bit, unfortunately think this is the only one out there that can be used while driving etc. I exclusively express feed, without this pump and its flaws I would have had to give up.
I love this pump I use it at work because I don’t have a very private area to pump and it’s perfect. I will say it is effective and u do need to keep an eye on how much u are pumping. Usually after 10 minutes it’s pretty full and I have to empty the containe
I really like this pump I tried all the cheaper options but they are so noisy, plastic parts, and suction is not great! This one you can use every where and the battery lasts for at least three sessions! Within ten minutes you can get the milk if you’re expressing every three hours. The first one I ordered was faulty but I got the new one today and it’s great!
This pump is awesome. I’m on my second NICU baby and have ample experience with both the Medela Symphony and the Spectra S2 that I got for home/longterm use. The Elvie’s suction doesn’t feel as strong but my output is the same as the plugged and tubed pumps. You do need to wear a bra with decent compression – my MeUndies u-back bralettes work great but the other cuts I have aren’t quite snug enough to get the same output as the other pumps. Also, you can’t bend over to pick something up off the floor or it’ll leak a bit. All in all, it’s awesome to be able to do things while I pump.
This saved my breast milk journey. Due to quite a few things, I became an exclusively pumping mamma and the pump I had at the time just wasn’t cutting it. I felt tied down and I couldn’t really do anything with my baby while I was pumping. Then I bought one of these and the game changed. I bought the second pump just a week later. I can feed my baby in my lap while I pump, do dishes, fold laundry, drive, sit in waiting rooms, go to game night and not feel awkward or have to hide away to empty the girls. I LOVE IT. I even fell asleep a couple times and caught a few minutes of z’s!!!
I will say you need to be careful though. Don’t bend forward too much or you’ll leak and lose some milk (and in some cases a quite a bit of it). There is an app that you can use, which would be more handy if the timer at least paused the pumps rather than just alert you that your time is up and just keep going. I also feel like it loses connection to the pumps constantly, so I just don’t really use the app that often.
And careful with the little one, too. Your baby can pause them when picked up or bump her head on them if you don’t pad between her and the pump. Otherwise, once you figure out how to maneuver, you lose way less time interacting with your LO than you would with a more traditional pump.
They are also WAY more portable than many pumps out there and just as quiet as the top ones covered by insurance. I also find the shields way more comfortable than others.
With these, not only do I miss fewer pumping sessions, but I also don’t miss out on so much of my life tied down to a large motor or an outlet.
There is also less to clean (no tubes), but the cost of replacement parts is higher than other brands. Convenience has a price, but it’s well worth it.
The clip is very flimsy so mine needs replacing (not sure how it’s not clipping)
Not easy to clean as it requires very attentive clean.
Is not silent but is quieter than the usual
Pumps.
6/28/21: I am writing this review after a one time use so I will be editing this for an update. I struggled to buy this because of the price, which is why I only bought the one to try. I am an ER nurse and do not have much downtime to go to a room and pump by a wall. On my off day I decided to try this Before Going to work. After feeding my seven week old and pumping using my madela PIS (getting 0.5oz on R side), I tried the Elvie. After five minutes, I got 1.5 ounces on my R side.
Pros:
It is very quiet. It is not 100% soundless, but for me that was not a bad thing. I also do not notice the suction or notice it even in my bra. The pump in style had a much stronger suction and always seemed to hurt my nipples after a session. So this
Lighter suction is very much ideal for me. It is much more portable than any other pump I have tried considering I have to carry so much stuff with me to my job. It’s extremely convenient. It is very easy to measure your flange size as it has markers on each flange so you are able to tell if it’s too big, too small or the perfect size. I walked around my house, and it stayed in place very well. I love the reusable collector. It’s durable and not flimsy!
Cons:
This is not really a con for me, but for some it might be a con. It does have five small parts to wash, but in comparison to the large parts of a pump in style I much rather clean this than the other. You do have to have the perfect flange size. It will leak if you don’t have the right size. My nipples will swell to a 24 from a 21 so I just end up with a 24 anyway. I’ll bend over forward just a little bit to drain it as I am pulling it off my breast to help with the leaking. So this is not a con for me either but it might be for someone else. I did read from other reviewer’s that boiling the washable parts has ruined their’s, so I washed with really hot water and dish soap then rinsed it with boiling water instead of letting it boil for the five minutes. This is a con for me but I am willing to take the risk for the convenience. It will leak if you bend over comparatively to the willow (I did not buy the willow because I heard a lot of my nurse friends say it wasn’t as good as the Elvie).
UPDATE: 9/7/21
Things I will try and review on in my update:
-the app: it’s a reference range. Like 2.25 oz- 3oz. Which is fine. This is pretty accurate and helpful when I’m pumping at the hospital seeing patients. You can save your pump sessions, I don’t but if you want- it’s an option.
-on the job wearability: you can’t tell I have a pump on under my scrubs!! The only downside to this pump is you can’t bend over because I will leak. I have to squat down to pick things up or do anything that involves bending. During CPR, if I’m pumping, I’ll take it out and put it to the side before it’s my time to start compressions.
-if it depletes/increases my supply: it didn’t deplete or increase. Supply stayed the same!
-if I get any clogged ducts or mastitis (I got clogged ducts EVERY TIME with my PIS): I would occasionally get clogged ducts but not often. If I did, I used the LaVie breast massager (also on Amazon!).
I definitely recommend this pump. It has been a total life saver and would buy this for a friend! Must have
Are use the LV when I need to pump but don’t have time to sit there and distract to the wall. It allows me to wear a baggy sweatshirt to conceal the pump very easily. The only regret I have is that I didn’t buy two
Third time breastfeeding and I am so happy to find the Elvie.. I used the Medela and it was great, just very tied down to a machine.. I then got the Willow and let me tell you why it sucked!
Elvie vs Willow
– the willow is much louder! You hear the mechanisms moving and have to walk around with a little motor rumbling in your bra.. Elvie has a very faint sound but all you really hear is the liquid hitting the container
– when held side by side the willow and Elvie are about the same size. But when in your bra your breast is much more flush with the Elvie and has a much more discreet look
– while pumping it’s crazy how smooth the Elvie is.. I have to check sometimes to see if it’s even on, but yup it’s working away you can barely even feel it .. the willow was a little more harsh no matter the settings (the Elvie just fits your nipple more natural)
– the functionality is exceptionally better with the Elvie. You can change whether your pumping left or right.. you can switch from expression to stimulation.. you can set a timer! (willow doesn’t offer any of this) .. and the app is great and so far has been very accurate on volume pumped.
– cleanup! Once again the Elvie is just better!! The willow has parts that are small and can be hard to get into, and if using containers instead of the bag it’s difficult to clean in the small crevices. The Elvie has an awesome container and it easy to clean and pour milk out of.
– a major problem I had with the willow was milk spillage .. after you pump you need to flip this switch to seal it and then turn the pump over and after some time that became faulty and milk would just pour out getting the pump itself all wet. My legs drenched and sticky.. also if all went well with the flip, removing the container always spilled milk again. It’s messy!! The Elvie had me so in love when I realized it’s almost impossible to have a big spill. And with the container being on the bottom, it won’t spill all over the actual pump
– as for the seal the willow does allow you to move a little more (bending over and such) but if you keep the Elvie compressed nicely to your breast with no gaps at all with a bra you won’t have any spillage!
– the willow only has a 1 year warranty (which I learned the hard way that isn’t enough) .. Elvie has a 2 year which makes me feel they are more confident in the product
– oh almost forgot,, the Elvie comes with extra container AND a different size nipple flange (this cost extra for willow)
– the Elvie uses a usb charger so it can be plugged in almost anywhere.. even the car. The willow uses a standard dc plug and makes it hard to charge on the go
Being I just got the Elvie I can’t comment on the long term durability.. but I can already tell the Elvie is made way better and much higher quality than the willow
Why I went to Elvie
– I used my willow pumps for 4 months, they worked just fine. Stored it for a year.. went to use it again and one never turned back on and the other one worked for a few days after which a pin broke off of the pumping mechanism and is completely useless now. After calling and just being over my year warranty willow basically said TOUGH LUCK.
This is amazing! BF has been a struggle so needed a pump to use instead of feeding our baby formula and this one is amazing!!
No wires or having to hold the pump in place. For me the app has been accurate in terms of tracking the ml pumped and the suction is great.
Would definitely recommend to anyone needing a pump and well worth the money
This is my third time breastfeeding/pumping. I’ve used the Medela Pump in Style and Spectra S2 previously, and this pump is comparable in my opinion, with the added bonus of being entirely hands-free and portable. I have been able to pump so much more using this pump as I don’t need to be connected to a bulky pump, and can use it while I’m up and moving around.
It did take me a few tries to figure out how to get the suction to work (make sure all parts are assembled correctly, that none of the rubber parts are bent in any way, and that your nipple is well aligned in the shield), but once I got it figured out, I’ve had no issues. It empties my breasts in about the same amount of time as the Spectra most of the time.
The only drawbacks I have found so far is that the pump will leak if you bend over (only had this happen once), and you can only pump about 4 ounces at a time. I still use my Spectra if I expect to pump more than 4 ounces, or if I feel like I am getting a clogged duct as you can’t do any hands on massage while wearing the Elvie.
It is fairly quiet, although not silent. If I am in a very quiet room, my husband can hear me pumping if he is within 10 feet of me. I’m planning on using it at work, so we will see if anyone notices then. It does make you look more busty, but isn’t anything that looks unnatural.
Overall this has been one of my best purchases, and I wish I would have had it with my other babies. My freezer stash is already way over what it has ever been in the past, just because I can pop one of these on and go about my day instead of having to sit down and pump.
I was worried this wouldn’t be effective given the cost but it worked just as well as the one i rented from the hospital that you plug into the wall. The sound is not loud at all and I have a friend who wears them in work. I only bought one as I pumped for a short time but if they work out for you it would be worth buying two. Importantly (!), it says in the instructions not to put the parts in a sterilised and my friend says hers warped and when she did this so be aware of that. I just put them in a pot and poured boiling water in and left it to cool.
Well worth it. You pay for convenience and that’s what it is.
My milk supply has literally trippled using this. To hold a pump as well as look after a baby was near enough impossible for me, especially having to clean and sterilize each tiny part. But with this.. there are only 5 parts to clean. I only have 1 but as I am exclusively expressing I may buy another.
Not 5 stars as I’m having to charge after each session but defo a good buy!!!
After 5 months of use I have lots of thoughts on this pump. At first I hated this pump because I didn’t know how to properly use it. I was getting minimal milk output. But just like any pump, you have to play around with the settings to see what works for you. I now use this more often AND get more milk output than my plug in pump.
Pros:
-Hands free, on the go pumping. This is by far the biggest positive about this device. For a working and on the go mom, this has been a life saver. There have been times I would have missed pumping if not for this device.
-Has great suction/pumping power ONCE YOU DETERMINE WHAT SETTING WORKS BEST FOR YOU. I urge you to try different sucking strengths to see what works best. Also, in my experience, wearing a tight fitting sports bra while pumping got the highest milk output. I now get more output from this than from my plug in pump and this only occurred after I found what setting worked best for me.
-Charges quickly. I get about 2.5 20 minute pumps out of a charge but it’s easy to throw on the charger between pumps. Would recommend purchasing a double charging cube and cord so you just plug one cube in to charge both devices.
-It’a quiet. This thing is much more quiet than my plug in pump. You can hear it if you listen closely but cannot hear it on a phone call, etc. It’s very quiet.
Cons:
-You cannot bend over while wearing these. I repeat DO NOT BEND OVER WHILE WEARING. Milk will spill. I have heard of hacks to get milk to not spill if you bend over but have not tried them.
Updated (June 2021): best customer service! I contacted Elvie regarding the issues with leakage and the sensors and they sent me brand new pumps and spouts. So far so good in terms of using the new ones. Very glad I made this purchase.
Updated: Have been using my Elvie for a few weeks. I love that it’s portable and quiet. A few things that could be better include the sensor which is quite inaccurate to the point where if you pump to the maximum amount, you will leak by the time the auto shut off initiates as well as the spouts and bottles which seem to leak when transferring milk into another bottle. Other than those two pieces, I’m happy with my purchase but disappointed that, given the cost, it doesn’t function exactly as it should.
Just got my Elvie today. Have used it twice and am really happy with it so far. A couple of features could be done a bit better- because you can’t see the bottle, it’s hard to know when to stop pumping. It would be helpful if the sensor could notify you once letdown has concluded. Additionally, the sensor is not very accurate in terms of how much milk is expressed.
Other than those two things, it’s really easy to use and a great product overall.
Being a mom to a 4 year old and now a baby, switching from a regular pump with a cord to this, is a lifesaver! I can easily put it on and GO! This suctions better than my old pump and pretty quiet. Now I can go around and actually do some housework or just pump in the car discreetly without having the hassle of a cord or waiting until I get home. TOTALLY WORTH THE BUY!
It’s a good pump for if you need to multitask and get chores done. The pump itself is pretty darn weak, so I wouldn’t make this your regular pump. My milk supply ended up severely decreasing because I started to exclusively use this. Now I’ll mostly use the Spectra and use this when I’m trying to get some chores done or something.
Definitely doesn’t have enough suction, but it is very convenient for a work pump. Should not be used as a main pump.
Super convenient, very little noise, great suction power (to the point I was sore). The only problem is the amount it thinks you pump is way off. The pumps also keep pausing thinking the bottles were full when in fact they were practically empty (I have super low supply) the app is nice and easy to use.
Very convenient! I have the spectra, lasinoh and this one and the Elvie is the best! I’m not a person who has the patience to being stuck in a place pumping so I know I needed something to move around and do the chores, this has been a life saver and I’m pretty happy with it! The only thing I don’t like is the leakage that happens sometimes but not a big deal, the pros are way better than the cons. I only bought one, it’s pretty enough for me. It pumps out all the milk I need.
