Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersThe game does require an app to play, and although it makes it look like it’s Mac/Windows-only, you can still play the game on Linux using Proton 7.0-GE. The game itself is great so far (only a few hours in). Expect to spend the first night assembling it.

We’d played it once with friends, when my kids unwrapped it on Christmas they jumped up and down and started hugging the box.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI love this game, It works out a lot better when you mirror the tablet to your T.V. so everyone can partake in the game. My family and I try to think of what the playing charter sound like, and read their lines of the ones we are playing, it’s soo hilarious.

I love the sculpt and board presence of this lieutenant. Too bad they aren’t in production anymore.

Was very unsure about this game. But I’m having a blast with it. Looks good. Plays well. And you become quite absorbed in the quests. Definitely recommend.

    Awsome absorbing game

Awesome game, but you’ll need a dedicated group to play the campaign. Loved the app.

This was a Christmas gift request from my adult grandson. He was thrilled to get it and opened it all up to show me, right away. The game seemed extremely well made and sturdy, with lovely playing pieces. It was a great buy!!!

Bought this game to play with the kids on rainy days on holiday. Must say I was intimidated by the rule books to start with but we decided to throw ourselves into it and we were all surprised by its brilliance. The kids (8 & 12) got the rules sussed out during the first quest, and towards the climax of each mission, they were hopping about with excitement, chewing their nails as we made the final dice rolls!
A beautifully designed game, solidly built, combined with thrilling storytelling, I’d recommend this game to virtually everyone.
Rainy days will never be glum again.

I bought this to play with my two sons as trying to do a full D&D campaign with just the 3 of us is a bit rough. Using the companion iPad app, my sons and I can all be heroes and fight through a campaign with the iPad as Dungeon Master. We’ve only played a little but, so far, it’s proven to be a great D&D Lite game.

The only small complaint I have that made me deduct one star was durability. The copy of the game I received from Allred Services had 3 figures arrive with their bases detached. I super glued them back on rather than deal with returns and replacements, etc. But it’s definitely a bit of a downer to get everything out of the box brand new and find things already busted up a little.

Haven’t had a chance to play this yet, but my kids are excited to that’s already a plus. Only downside so far is three of the figures were broken when I opened them up. The plastic could be sturdier. The books, maps, and box art are all fantastic and the rules look to be simple enough for my kids but interesting enough for me and my wife.

I don’t know what to add because so many of the positive reviews capture everything and give good descriptions of the products. I will say that Fantasy Flight creates very solid products. This box set doesn’t disappoint. The pieces and tiles are very high quality. The price on Amazon also makes this a good deal. We been playing a lot of Descent with the pandemic. I just sad that Fantasy Flight has stopped adding to this product line. I definitely continue to expand on this game.

Descent is probably the father of all modern dungeon crawler board games. It is the first that i bought and remains my favorite one.

The basic concept is that 1 overlord is fighting against a group of 1-4 players within a short campaign. The very good game app allows for coop play instead. On the normal “vs mode” every quest has a winner and loser and the game proceeds/adapts accordingly.

There is a huge number of extra material (camaign expansions, heroes, monsters, lieutenants) which gives the game a great replayability, but even the base game gave me great value for years.

I would say its greatest strength are the large number of different strategies you can use as overlord and the character options and evolvement of player characters. This is not your typical kill ’em all board game you may have played and got bored within a couple of months. Many quests are a race of one against the other (i.e. not players against a fixed mechanic leke GH).

Lastly i would recommend all fans or interested players to get what you want timely as i noticed that recently more expansions are coming out of stock. Many people speculate Descent 3rd Ed. will be made, but if you take note of FFG’s passive response and various issues so far i would guess the opposite.

Great expansion, if a little on the expensive side.it definitely made the game feel larger, especially the maps.

We love it! A little hard to learn and there’s an intimidating amount of pieces but it’s so epic when you get into it. The maps do require a lot more space than we have on our small table though. The pieces are also very well made.

The game is fun, engaging, and well made. Tiles are made of thick, puzzle piece-like cardboard and fit together precisely. Miniatures are detailed and high quality plastic, perfect for painting if you so desire!

Gameplay is straightforward and varied, and if you download the free companion app, it introduces a large variety of scenarios and stories. While I haven’t played through the campaign, the missions I’ve played have been well balanced and fun.

As for accessibility, my ten year old was just fine with the rules, although my 8 year old didn’t catch on quite as quickly — he still enjoyed it immensely though!

Fantastic game, and easy to learn.
Only problem is I’ll have to get the expansion now.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI bought this game for my husband. He enjoys strategy games. He thought that it was excellent overall. The app making it completely co-op is a plus. Missions in game can take up to two and half hours, so be prepared. I usually don’t enjoy these types of games but they takes so long to learn how to play but I enjoyed this one as well.

Descent is a board game with too many papers to read, dice, instructions, cards, and tiles. I purchased it because I read on many reviews it was the legitimate heir of Heroquest. And it is true. But the designers of the game have gone too far away in developing so many complicated rules. Heroquest still has the touch of a legend. I am afraid Descent didn’t get that. However, Descent is a good game. You have to set up the game and take some hours to be familiar with. But when you play some missions and you start to enjoy the game, you engage with the game soon. Not a game for children, it is not Heroquest. In my opinion, it is aimed for adolescents.

I like that it has an app that allows for a different play style. Miniatures are also fun to paint.

Ok great game except main character enemies represented by cardboard tokens. It’s taken me years to obtain the minis which are sold separately.

**Edit** I got a new copy in the mail after returning the used/damaged copy. New buyers just be aware that you might get a used/damaged copy as it seems like a lot of people have.

Other than that the game is super fun! I DM for DnD from time to time and enjoy the overlord mechanic!

I received a damaged and used copy of this game. I started a refund process so will update the review once I get a new copy

    Received damaged and used produc
