FAQ for Foscam Video Doorbell( Model: DBW5 )
Q1: Does the video doorbell require existing doorbell wiring?
- Yes, the video doorbell draws power from existing doorbell wiring. The voltage of the transformer requirement is 8-24VAC and the output power of the transformer is 8VA or above, which is very common in most house doorbell wiring.
Q2: Is the video doorbell powered by battery?
- No, the wired video doorbell has more advanced features, like the 3s pre-buffer and no wake-up time. Also, the doorbell dimensions can be very slim, fitting into narrow door frames.
Q3: Is the Doorbell compatible with Alexa or Google Assiatant?
- Yes, our doorbell camera works with Alexa and Google Assiatant.
Q4: Is the video doorbell compatible with the existing doorbell chime?
- Yes, we are well compatible with existing mechanical chime or digital chime. When you connect digital chime, please remember to connect our power kit.
Q5: Whatâs the wireless range of the video doorbell?
- The video doorbell connects to your home WiFi. It works with any 2.4GHz & 5GHz wireless router, mesh system or modems. Depending on your WiFi transmit power, distance and walls in between, the doorbell range varies. In the outfield test in the US, it works well in most 3000sq.ft houses.
Q6: How does the video doorbell detect the motions?
- The built-in camera of the video doorbell system is triggered to start recording through the full-image pixel contrast, followed by which the system will further undergo face detection. The triggering mechanism for the current video doorbell system requires users to adjust the settings of the activity zone and the sensitivity level of detection accordingly due to various user scenarios.
Q7: Does the video doorbell system support AI?
- Yes, face detection and face recognition are supported. Face recognition can only be turned on after the corresponding cloud service is purchased.
Notice:
1. If you choose to use AC power to power the video doorbell, you need to ensure that the specication of the transformer in your home is 8V~24V AC, the minimum power requirement is 8VA.
2. The Video doorbell should be in series with transformer and existing chimeï¼
3. The power kit should be in parallel with the existing chime.
If you refer to the above wiring instructions to install the doorbell and still can’t work normally, please provide your transformer specifications, the picture of the chime and the wiring diagram in the chime’s manual, and contact our technical support email: support&foscam.com(please change & to @)

When I installed the camera I just configured it to work on my NVR trough Onvif protocol and then I integrated it to my Alexa.
About a month later Alexa stoped to announce the doorbell and I tried to remove and the add it back.
I suspected that this was donde on purpose by Foscam as I was ignoring frequent messages with discounts to sign in to their AWS cloud services as well I noticed that the alerts no longer shows any picture.
I then did the most basic signature to check that it was deliberately being caused by them and I was. As soon as my service got activated, my Alexa start to announce the doorbell again.
The camera itself is good, but this tactics to force users to sign cloud services when they only want to stay offline is too frustrating and I’ll chance this camera to a UniFi doorbell which doesn’t do such thing.
This review is only about the feature I use. I have used this for 11 months now. It is connected to the 5 ghz wifi. Some of the reviews here are for older versions of the firmware so be sure to check before buying. They have made updates to the firmware. My primary use is to see if a package is delivered, and record video for security.
Pros.
Easy to install
Can use wired ethernet if needed
My wifi connection has been very solid. I do have a extender close to the doorbell.
Detection zones to filter out false alarms.
FTP upload of videos
Image looks good to me
No issues using existing doorbell wiring
Cons.
My only complaint is the view angle below. The only reason I do not give it 5 stars is because you can’t see the ground below. Almost all cameras have this issue. I mounted a spot mirror to see if something is up against the door. It works but should not be required. See attached image. Mine is mounted 50″ to the bottom of the doorbell. I do have the 5 bracket pointed up, but pointing it down makes very little difference.
UPDATE: I thought the yellow/green color was from the morning sun burning the lens. It turns out there is a color adjustment setting in the Foscam VMS app and Foscam support instructed me to click the default button to reset to defaults and that worked. Great customer service via email and quick/accurate solution. See corrected photo that was added.
Original review: I was happy with it until the picture turned green and a reboot didn’t fix it. I have many Foscam cameras and this has never happened.
Front camera. Alerts better and faster than my outdoor cameras. Ring tones are interesting. Push button is sensitive. Zoom is excellent views.
The Foscam Video Doorbell is a full featured video doorbell system which includes an assortment of backplates and installation items like screws, screwdriver/tool, and power kit to complete the installation. Foscam even supplies wire connection extensions if the existing wires are too short. Everything I needed for installation was supplied. The packaging/presentation is upscale. This is a replacement for an early Ring Doorbell that was having charge issues with colder weather conditions and image quality was staring to show its age. I have other Foscam cameras and this ties in well with the other cameras for security purposes and is an excellent upgrade. This Foscam Doorbell is hardwired but is not dependent on an internal battery as the early Ring replaced. The image upgrade is impressive both day and night. There was an issue with installation using the Foscam/Android app. It would time-out at the 60% point. Repeated attempts faulted at the same point. I used the Foscam VMS/Windows app to complete the installation. After installation the Foscam Doorbell was available using the Foscam /Android App. Note that one of the installation videos for the supplied Power Kit shows installation for Digital Chimes. The Power Kit is for both mechanical and digital chimes and installation helps to avoid random/ghost ringing and chime hum. For my current needs, I am not using the additional cloud services. I am using the app settings to send alerts to my phone.
I have a Zoneminder system at home and needed a compatible video doorbell. Easier said thanks done!
Tried others but the Foscam VD1 does the trick straight out of the box… and many more tricks too!
Integrates with Echo Show, sends email alerts, ftp’s snapshots to my offsite server… lots of things!
Easy to install. But don’t forget you’ll need a power source: I bought a 24v 500mA bell transformer to add a traditional chime indoors.
It’s a best buy and it’s brilliant!
I’m rating this Foscam DBW5 as tops in all respects! I’m including setup steps for Lorex DVR using ONVIF since it took awhile to figure it out! The Lorex setup defaults to HTTP port 80 for ONVIF, but Foscam is the only camera (in my own network) that uses 888 dedicated to ONVIF. The setup instructions were fairly clear, but take the suggestion to configure the doorbell “on the bench” prior to installing it by your door, see below!
This doorbell replaces a troublesome “LaView ONE HALO” that, after 18 months, has severe network issues!
If you don’t purchase the Foscam cloud services, it’s a good idea to purchase the internal SD card from the get-go! It allows you to view recent video clips without much trouble.
How to add the Foscam video doorbell “DBW5” to Lorex 6xxx DVR
1. Configure the Foscam DBW5 first following the supplied instructions. Install the app on your smart phone first! I configured the Doorbell on the bench (with a USB port on my pc) before installing it by the door. NOTE: it is also a good idea to download the FOSCAM VMS application to your PC. After lots of weeping and gnashing of teeth, this is the only source to determine the true port number for ONVIF! (888). Foscam VMS is also a great application to run on your PC while working so you can see the front door!
2. On the Lorex DVR login to the main menu as admin.
3. Open the menu for REMOTE DEVICE
4. Search by IP for devices. The Foscam DBW5 should show up as detected.
5. Add it to the live devices table.
6. Click the checkbox and the edit icon.
7. The default values should show as
Protocol — ONVIF (if not change it!)
Name – whatever you assigned like “doorbell”
IP address- xxx.xxx.x.xx
RTSP PORT — self adaptation
HTTP PORT — 888 (The Foscam actually identifies this as the “ONVIF” port)
Username — Foscam assigned username (You assigned this in the Foscam VMS app)
Password — Foscam assigned password (You assigned this in the Foscam VMS app)
The remaining are defaults. Be sure to click “Apply” then clicking “connect” should show a view from your new camera.
The default HTTP port in the Lorex configuration is port 80, or “PORT X” I have 3 different brands of cameras on my security system and the default worked just fine for all of them except the Foscam.
To determine the Foscam port for ONVIF (On your PC with “Foscam VMS”)
1. Open Foscam VMS
2. pull down the menu for “My Device”
3. Your DBW5 should be displayed; open the 3 bars pull-down by the device name.
4. Navigate to Setup
5. Open Network
6. Open Onvif, the Onvif port default 888 is displayed, leave authentication on no.
7. In the settings for Video encode, I also lowered the resolution to 720P. I’m not sure if this is necessary, but bandwidth is becoming an issue on my home network!
Editorial comment; I’m no expert on networking so I don’t know why ONVIF is on a port other than “80”. My guess is that it gives the user more flexibility on Port Forwarding and security configuration for the network router.
Final Verdict: after fighting constant network issues with my previous doorbell, this one is a GodSend!
You don’t need to pay for cloud storage. The Foscam VMS works great using “local” login!
Installation was a little glitchy, but read the instructions carefully. Foscam VMS on my PC was extremely helpful! I’ve installed 4 different makes of cameras on my network. They are ALL Glitchy when it comes to install instructions!!
There is no instruction with the packaging on how to install and attach to DVR;s other than Foscam. (not unexpected)
The stream to my Lorex NVR is very clear and stable! The video is OUTSTANDING!
I am a believer in using static IP addresses for my cameras. In the past, DHCP has lost the ip assignment and assigns a different IP after a power failure!
I’ve had this doorbell a few months now. I’m very happy with it. It replaced an old wired doorbell, it was great to be able to use the old cables although I had to upgrade the bell transformer. Image clarity is great and I’ve had no issues with wifi connectivity, it maintains a solid connection. I used an SD card to store the video which worked well, but I later decided to use the cloud option for storing video as it had more functionality. I did need to use their support to upgrade firmware, it proved to be pretty efficient, a quick reset and things are good. Overall a solid doorbell.
Very easy to install. Works great. Can limit field of view to prevent traffic and street traffic tripping camera.
It allows you to use your current doorbell chime, its easy to install. Its very sensitive, I live on a through street, every vehicle passing by makes my phone ping. Very annoying but the camera is doing it’s job. My brother was impressed with the clarity and distance it picks up and has ordered him one. Funny thing was when the doorbell talked to my guest, they were shocked.
Very easy to install only took 30 mins or so .
Face detection is great . I feel very happy with i
Tut was es soll.
Sollte sich nach einiger Zeit etwas anderes ergeben… aktualisiere ich die Bewertung
I am very pleased with our Foscam Doorbell Camera, the instructionswere clear and it connected it to our wifi on the first try. We have been using it for over a month now and are very satisfiedwith our purchase and would happily buy another.
I need a doorbell camera that works with synology NAS to replace my old doorbell camera. This foscam doorbell has better picture quality and nightvision than my old one. Also the 5G wifi is faster than 2.4G.
I was able to set up a static IP for this camera. My previous camera would change IP each time the router restarted.
The customer service is also great. Reply to my email within 5 hours.
Overall a very good doorbell camera.
This device is great, but it takes a little work to get it configured. I replaced an older 720p doorbell camera that didn’t have IR and the picture difference is amazing. The fish eye lens gives you a very wide view. The day picture is crisp and the colors are great. The night vision is as advertised. You get about a maximum of 16ft visibility. I’ve added 3 pictures. One of the daytime, one at night with the light on and one with no light except the IR light. These are snapshots from Blue Iris, which is how I’m using the device. I’m not using any of the motion detection or device recording, so I can comment on those functions. I chose this device because it can be powered by the existing doorbell wiring/transformer and also be hardwired to the network via the USB-C port adapter.
Configuring the device was a little more difficult then what I had expected. I have other Foscam cameras and they have a web interface to configure the camera. The DBW5 does NOT have a web interface. You MUST configure it with the Foscam app or VMS program (Windows only). I first tried the Foscam app, but the camera is on an isolated network, that is not connected to the internet, so it wouldn’t work. It would get to about 60% and then just get stuck. I finally ended up using the Foscam VMS program to configure the camera. It was pretty straight forward. Very similar to what the web interface was like. After getting the camera configured to what I wanted, I had to tackle getting Blue Iris to work with it. I spent about 1 hour trying different configuration to see if Blue Iris would just see it, but nothing worked. I then did a search and found the Amazon review by “MooreNotLess”. I followed their directions and it worked like a charm.
The last thing that took some back and forth with Foscam support, was getting the mechanical chime to work. Frank from Foscam support was very helpful. He had me try different things and then finally told me that I had to change a settings via the Foscam app. So I connected the camera to a network that was connected to the internet and via the Foscam app, I change the Door Chime setting to mechanical. After that, the chime worked. I wish they had that setting in the VMS.
So far I’ve very happy with this doorbell camera and it’s working very well. The price is very good and the picture quality is great. When I researched this item, before I purchased it, Nora from customer support was very helpful with getting me the information that I wanted to know about the device.
I have many Foscam cameras and am always pleased with them, and they keep getting better and better. This one is very easy to install.. video and clarity are amazingly clear. It even works if you don’t have a doorbell to connect it to by plugging it into a power source.
Needs right chime to work properly apart from that would recommend no problem.
Easy to set up. Good video quality. Has a built in microphone and speaker. Quick installation that replaces your existing doorbell.
The image quality is great and sharp with no lag on the Foscam App, and looks great, even in the sunlight. The audio quality is excellent. The ringbell is also very nice looking. The set-up was super easy and straightforward, and the Foscam VMS App is great.
Furthermore, I was able to configure it under my existing NVR with no hassle. The Alexa / Google Assistance is a nice feature. In summary, a very important asset for your home security.
Trs bon produit , image fluide de trs bonne qualit . Le tout sans fil ( en wifi )
I like FOSCAM cameras and been using them for years. When I know a specific product software and the company keeps making the hardware around the software better, I’m happy! Thus, why I acquired one of their doorbells when it became available.
I was most worried about install. I had so many questions that were not answered by the product web page:
* Do I have to get a new door bell? No. It works with my existing MECHANICAL door bell!
* Am I going to have to run new wires? No. The FOSCAM doorbell is powered from my mechanical door bell wires! This I didn’t expect. No wires to run. No power outlets to use nor put in place.
* What parts are going to be missing (or lost, because I always lose a screw or cable or something) because the manufacturer was cheap and didn’t include extras? FOSCAM provided extra screws, extra mounting brackets, extra cables, etc. Yes, I lost a screw but there were backup screws in the box to complete the jobs successfully.
* Am I going to have to drill into my masonry? Well yes, I did have to do this but the masonry plugs provided with the door bell did great as a replacement of my old plugs.
If you know how to use FOSCAM cameras, then you will know how to use this doorbell camera. Installation was easier than I expected. So far, I am quite happy with it!
This video doorbell was extremely easy to install. It came with very clear instructions. It connected immediately and the picture quality is very clear! The instructions came with a QR code to link to youtube videos to show easy installation. The installation only took around 10 minutes. I added a micro sd card for video storage. Highly recommend this product! Easily linked to other FOSCAM cameras.
Update: I added a photo. I forgot to mention this camera can be powered by 2 different voltages. You can attach it to your doorbell transformer (most applications) OR to a 5v iPhone power supply (charger) with a provided c-type cable. With ring I had to buy a more powerful transformer. Foscam supplied all I needed.
I have had a Ring doorbell for many years. It has been a struggle over the years to connect quickly to my internet when I need it. Example: someone rings the doorbell. I get a warning on my iPhone. I immediately click the warning and await for Ring to connect and show me who’s out there. And I await. By the time I finally see my front porch, the person is long gone. Not exactly what I hoped for. Ring blames my internet. BS None of these problems with this Foscam Doorbell camera!
I also have 8 other Foscam cameras placed around and inside my property. I give Foscam an “A” for connecting quickly. So I decide to buy a Foscam doorbell camera. I love it. All the issues I had with the Ring are resolved. I now have 9 Foscam cameras under one app.
Foscam “A”
Ring “C”
I highly recommend it. BTW their support is extremely good.
Easy to install, compact ,clear image quality of video, soothing sound/ring not too loud…overall satisfied customer.
First thing I noticed is how smart and compact the doorbell looks, even compared to all the ring doorbells everyone suddenly has. I’m a delivery driver so I’ve seen my fair share of doorbells.
I already have a transformer with the wires to power the doorbell, as it doesn’t run on batteries unlike the others. Possibly why it’s so slim as it doesn’t need big batteries to keep it powered on. You can only use the built-in battery for about a day, it’s used for configuring the doorbell before you fit it. Small internal battery charges via USB-C port on the back, and the AV power I put also keeps the battery charger incase of a power cut etc.
Installation was easy, got it set up with the Foscam app and showing the camera a QR code on my phone screen. It connected to my 5ghz WiFi network straight away, live video displayed on my phone, and it was ready to be fitted to the wall.
It comes with 2 different mounting back plates, one slim and one deep, to attach the camera to the wall, allowing the wires to come through the centre and into the doorbell, the doorbell then clips and attaches to the wall plate and I’d screwed together to hold it all secure. It also comes with two different adapters which go on top of the wall plate, a 5 angle plate so you can have the doorbell camera slightly aimed towards the door. And also a 5 up or down slope plate which I haven’t found a use for. The backing plate has a built-in mini spirit level so you can fit it level, and comes with a paper screw guide for the back plate screws and rawl plugs. I swapped the standard included wall plugs for Fischer Duo Power and it’s gripped solid to the wall.
When the ring button is pressed on the doorbell, the app imitates a phone call as a notification and when you hit answer it instantly shows the live feed with about a second delay / connection time. This is so much more responsive than the cheaper video doorbells and even the ring doorbell and their app.
Video quality is awesome, app allows you to view the video stream in HD 720p, FHD 1080p, and QHD 1440p. The lower the quality the faster the image response and lags. But having it connected over 5ghz WiFi and a good ASUS dual band wireless router, the signal is strong and even on QHD there is very minimal lag, less than a second I’d say. You can speak through the app to the doorbell speaker, and it’s built -in microphone so you can tell the parcel courier to leave the parcel somewhere, or tell the person you’re not home, as it works over the internet without the need for a subscription.
The camera and doorbell has so many settings to play around with. Even has ONVIF support for connecting it to your NVR if you have several other CCTV cameras recording to a central Network Video Recorder. I haven’t tried this out yet but this feature stood out to me as I have an 8 camera cctv system to fit which will incorporate the ONVIF doorbell camera too hopefully.
Overall it’s great. Superior build quality. Very sleek and slim design.
Requires hard wiring only, doesn’t support running off batteries.
Comes with a wireless chime adapter that’s paired to the doorbell, this is for AC 8-24V chimes that use a transformer. I haven’t used this yet as I want to pair a plug in chime as I don’t have an AC chime anymore. MicroSD card slot for recording video when the button is pushed, if it detects motion, or have it recording 24/7 continuous loop. Plenty of features and settings to adjust.
Instead use it as a doorbell I am using it at the kitchen right now because this doorbell needs wire to work and I think I need a professional electrician to do it. Very sensitive motion detector and high quality photo. My boy use the doorbell as a video call to talk with me when he was not seeing me around him so funny. I had downloaded the app on my phone and my tablet. Easy to hear the doorbell when it was pressed but I found I need to always open the app to received the notification on my phone but not the tablet. Maybe some setting on my phone was worng I am trying to fix it now. In summary I love this doorbell.
Upgraded from a Zmodo 720p doorbell, and the picture quality is leaps ahead. Crystal clear picture and it is in Landscape mode versus Portrait. Setup was easy, using existing doorbell wires. I recommend to use the included extension wires. The included adapter box allows the camera to integrate with your existing home chime. My old Zmodo never did that.
This doorbell integrates well with my other Foscam cameras and can be managed with the Foscam VMS software. This replaces the web setup option. I have high expectations for this doorbell and expect it to last a long time.
** Not officially supported, but have integrated this doorbell into my Homekit setup using HomeBridge. Need to figure out how to stream h265 video. **
I’ve been waiting for Foscam to bring out a doorbell so I could use my Foscam NVR to record 24/7 so was pleased to see it finally being released in the U.K.
I replaced a previous installed doorbell made by a major CCTV manufacturer and the Foscam is far superior especially the night vision.
Installation was easy and there is everything you need to install if you have suitable existing wiring if not you’ll need to purchase a power supply.
It is even supplied with wedges so you can adjust the doorbell to the perfect angle, these are normally an extra with other makes.
The 5Ghz Wifi connection is very stable and fast
I did have a problem with the motion detection notifications not sending but this was quickly resolved with a firmware update after contacting Frank at Foscam customer services
I have been using Foscam cameras for years and would recommend to friends and family
I just move into a new house, I am so glad to buy this video doorbell. It is excellent. Very easy to install, I spend about 20mins to get through. Easy to connect with my phone. The WiFi signal is very strong. The image is clear and the sound quality is great. Even in the night time, the vision is also very bright. It makes my life easier and more convenient. I can see clearly who is at my door. I am happy about this video doorbell.
Easy to install and setup and even works with my NVR. I would have given this 5 stars but instructions are not that clear for the power pack wiring and it does not work with Alexa either.
One of very few doorbell products to offer dual 2.4 and 5G connectivity and very high quality of video. Also, the product is shipped with possible configurations in one complete package. The manufacturer stays on top of it’s functionality by frequent firmware releases adding additional functionalities and enhancements. Overall very satisfied with my choice after researching many other products.
Frank at customer support was on top of my inquiries, promptly and accurately responding and addressing my questions. Great support is very important component to any purchases today, specially products that are designed to provide strong flexibility in installation options as there are various existing systems doorbell products are added to work together. Mobile Application is straight forward and includes all of the features modern doorbell should have for simple and reliable operation.
I have many of the Ring products and have had great luck with them. I also have many Foscam items and also have had great luck. So when I saw Foscam has a doorbell, I wanted to compare the two. So far, the unit seems to be a winner. I like the included power cord to allow setup in the house. I also like the idea of the SD card to house the clips/videos. I did have a problem doing the firmware update — it took many tries and time, but did update. I have and use Blue Iris and see that it is compatible, but have not tried ye
My daughter has a Ring Doorbell camera installed. Therefore, my appreciation of FOSCAM Doorbell camera is after a comparison of features, operation, and convenience with the Ring product. Off the bat, the FOSCAM Doorbell camera was connected directly to my existing doorbell connection (of more than 35 years) and does not require batteries that have to be periodically charged, Installation is a ‘child’s play’ quick, easy, and instantly operational. I installed the camera and started using it in less than 15 minutes. Even this lapse of time is because I downloaded the software on my laptop and smart phone. The neat feature I liked is being able to adjust the sensitivity of audio alarms and face detection. Even the stylish package of the FOSCAM Doorbell camera could be compared with an Apple iPhone package. The camera is supplied with a number of convenient adapters. For instance, you could mount the camera at an angle depending on your door position. The various camera positioning adapters help in optimizing the view you want to capture. The micro SIM card slot in the camera compartment is a cool feature to capture any videos of events. I would certainly recommend this camera without any hesitation to my friends and relatives.
First and foremost I want to recognize the Foscam customer service/support – They did a great job trying to help me out, they were always super responsive and did their best to help me out.
I have a Deco mesh network with 6 APs spread throughout the property – Needless to say I needed the camera to connect (wifi) to specific AP, at the shortest distance and with the strongest signal, in order to have it working 100%. At first the camera simply wouldn’t stick to the right AP – And the Deco was already configured to no allow the camera to roaming and dynamically change APs.
That wasn’t enough – And then I’ve found out about this “beam forming” feature on Deco, in which the APs will concentrate the signal towards the devices attempting to connect – Once I disabled this, the came never moved to a different AP and everything worked 100%.
For this I blame my infrastructure and not the camera itself – The camera works as advertised and Foscam has an excellent support/customer service.
This is my first door bell camera and the install went well. I took my time to make sure that I got the installation right. First I had to replace the old transformer; which is 5v 10vac. I replaced it with a 16v 10vac. I replaced the transformer again to a 24v 30vac just to be on the safe side. The included bracket kit was also a plus because mounting on the side door, the 15 degree angle bracket helps a lot! Adding wifi was somewhat a challenge because the camera have to scan the QR code on the phone. It took me some 5-10 minutes before the camera finally was able to scan the QR code. I have to move the phone QR code for the door bell camera to capture the code. The 1st try failed, but the 2nd try was a success!
Most of the door bell camera that I was looking into only uses 2.4ghz, but the Foscam DBW5 can work with 2.4ghz and 5ghz. My 2.4ghz seems to have a better signal than my 5ghz. I do not use cloud service. I use a Samsung 64GB micro sdcard for local storage. The video feed and night vision is really good. I think the quality is due to the 4MP camera instead of 2MP camera.
I had one issue with latency motion recording. When the door bell senses motion, it doesn’t gets recorded right away. There seems to be some delay before the recording actually starts. I contact support and Frank replied back to change settings in camera settings option>> setup>> record>> alarm record and enable pre-record. This improved tremendously; still wish there was a 5 second pre-record instead of the 2 but better than nothing! Last but not least, it does support ONVIF. I haven’t got the chance to setup on my DVR/NVR yet.
Always great customer service and fast response time!
Easiest install that went so quickly it surprised my wife and kids. Clear view and connection to Alexa. Great item.
After having done some research, I’ve decided to try this Foscam video doorbell camera, as the description was detailed and organized and the price was reasonable. Having using it for about a month, I’m glad I tried — the camera is amazing. The installation was a breeze. We used it to monitor the front door area. One of our favorite part is the app, which is so convenient and synced. Highly recommend this product!
Package was packaged well and comes with usb/ethernet cable to be set up before installation to the outside.
one tricky part is I have to unplug the usb cable to get the “ready for wifi configuration” prompt and then setup the wifi, which is not mentioned in the instruction manual.
The picture and audio are very clear and very zoom angel is very wide. Motion detection works ok, some time the cloud/sun will trigger the alarm. But overall it is a very good camera for my needs.
The camera was really good but the motion detection and on device facial recognition were severely lacking.
I recently purchased this doorbell camera because I wanted to monitor my front door / lawn. I installed it over the weekend and it was a pretty painless install. I removed the old doorbell and hook up a small power adapter to the mechanical chime (which was very simple).
I then connected the camera to the USB-C adapter which allowed me to do all of the setup before I even connected it to the house. Once the setup was done I mounted it to the wall. It comes with a lot of adapters, so it was easy to angle the camera in the exact direction that I wanted.
I first noticed that the angle is quite wide, which is perfect for the application and will catch everything that I want it to.
After installing, I noticed that the motion detection from the built in app was going off way too often, so I ended up turning it off. That is my only real complaint, that the detection was not as accurate as I would like. I even changed it to only detect faces, but that was unreliable as well. It didn’t really matter as much to me as I am using Blue Iris as the primary recording method.
Speaking of which, I had some trouble getting the camera working. I used the advice I saw here, but still couldn’t get it going. Below is what I did, step by step, to get it working with Blue Iris. Hopefully this will help someone else.
1. Add a new camera
2. Give it a name and do Network IP as type, hit ok
3. Put in the IP address of the camera with the port at the end. (I found this by using the Foscam VMS software) example: 192.168.1.125:88
4. DO NOT press the Find / Inspect button
5. Put in the Username and Password for the camera
6. Change the Make to Generic/ONVIF and the Model to *RTSP H.264/H.256/, etc
7. Change the Media/Video/RTSP port to whatever port you are using for the camera, default is 88
8. Change the Discovery/ONVIF port to 888
9. Under Stream Profiles, under Main, by default the path is / change that to /videoMain
10. After doing those things I was able to get everything working in Blue Iris.
Overall I am very happy with the purchase and would recommend this camera to anyone who wants a quality doorbell without having to pay for the cloud storage services.
Have been looking for a good video doorbell for a while. This is exactly what I want. We live in a gated community where security isn’t an issue, however, our living room is on the second floor, and it is so convenient to see who’s ringing our doorbell without going down to the first floor. Will recommend it to friends and families!
The camera arrived quickly and packaged in a neat organized box. Instructions were very clear. Setup was easy with QR codes and my phone. It was working in a couple minutes. My doorbell button is located off to the right so I needed to use the included angle adapter when mounting it. Once attached to the wires from the old button, I was ringing the doorbell and the chime inside the house was working as well. There are many options within the supplied app, so be prepared to spend a few minutes learning and understanding them. Overall, this is a great product. I have several Foscam Cameras and they are all viewable thru the app. I will also mention that they have great support. I did not need it this time, but I have contacted them in the past and they respond quickly.
Got this on Sunday and was a little difficult get it configured using the QR Code. Did not work for me. So I used the cable they included. After that it was a snap to configured. I also change the IP using a static IP address and I also change the port. Did not want to leave the FOSCAM default. The FOSCAM is not bad as well. Once you connected your wireless connection the rest is a breeze with the app from FOSCAM. I learned later that I had two accounts with FOSCAM on my mobile android app. I contacted FOSCAM support. Chatted with Alyssa Garcia who was very responsive and quick to delete the account that I no longer needed. Overall I’ve only had the doorbell camera for a few days and I’m still trying it out. But it does do what the FOSCAM description says it does. The one thing I did or do not like is that there is no WEB / GUI interface like the rest of FOSCAM cameras. Other than that I would recommend buying it.
Camera came well packaged and displayed professionally out of the box. Came with adapters for all types of surfaces so you can mount on any type of siding. I used the wedge adapter as I mounted on vinyl siding.
This is very easy to setup by following the instructions that came with the camera. I would definitely recommend setting up the connection to wi-fi first before mounting.
The picture is very clear and it picks up a good field of view. Also takes an SD card if you want to store the snapshots locally which is a big plus! You can also have it send push notifications via human detection so they don’t even need to ring the doorbell for you to see who is at your front door.
Overall, I think this is a great video doorbell! I also would recommend their outdoor and indoor security cameras if you are looking for crisp and clear video quality.
When it works, it is pretty good. However, it tends to fall asleep, losing internet connection on a good strength signal. cannot find a setting anywhere that would stop i
Thanks to Stephen Ray of Foscam support, I was able to determine that this DBW5 doorbell would work. He then helped me through installation and software setup. The first unit needed to be replaced due to an IR-LED issue but Mr. Ray made this happen quickly. I like the product and only want for a Firmware update to permit E-Mailing motion alarms. Overall, thanks in part to great Foscam support, I am very happy with my purchase.
Very good doorbell.
Been waiting for someone to bring out a doorbell and I’m very happy with this one. I have been using Foscam for years and this one works great. It was easy to connect to my existing doorbell chime.
Wasn’t sure about this, but it was really easy to install. Took about 10 minutes. Video is clear and bright. So far so good!
Good quality as expected! Adapters are included for different installation options, no need to spend extra money on it. The video resolution is good and the WiFi connection is pretty easy if following the instruction.
I’m excited to share my review on the Ring door bell. The video quality is great and functions very well. I can see my front door and back door without any problem while I’m away. This is the best door bell camera available I’ve come across, and for a great price. Installation was a cinch! And, I’ve made a wonderful choice ,and feel safe to know who is ringing the doorbell outside,so much more convenient, I recommend this product to everyone and every household.
Can confirm what other people have said in their reviews. This is a solid video doorbell and has the right advanced features for my needs.
The system was very easy to setup and while I did not have to use any of the optional angle brackets, these options make it easy to install just about anywhere.
I’m learning to make adjustments to the sensitivity so I can reduce false positives as we live on a reasonably busy street for pedestrian traffic. I have other Foscam cameras around the house and plan to explore integration with Blue Iris (which I use with the other cameras).
The integration with Amazon Echo products allows for viewing on Show devices, which is handy when in the house, but not close to the door or phone.
Works well with iOS app as well.
Great doorbell video camera. The cameras picture is crystal clear and is very easy to setup and connects to existing doorbell chime. Very easy to follow setup instructions.
