It feels sturdier and better than the cheaper options. I don’t know if it is worth 4 times the price, but considering I tried two other options and had to send both of those back, so far this is holding up much better.

Bought for my partner to mix his paint for his miniature figures, works extremely well would recommend.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersBought this not for Lab use, but for mixing bottles of hobby/model paints (the little Vallejo 17ml dropper bottles) – it was a bit of an extravagance as a hobby item, because it’s not a cheap purchase, but I think it will pay dividends in the long run – just removing the hassle of endless shaking of paint bottles will be worth the cost!
The mixer is physically much smaller and more compact than I had expected it to be; it certainly won’t take up much space on your painting bench. The construction of the unit is excellent, with a really heavy metal base (it needs it, to stop it shaking itself off the bench) and it certainly feels like a piece of serious professional equipment.
It does make some noise in operation, but it’s not loud enough to be a problem – and will only be operated in short bursts of a few seconds anyway.
Basically, all you do is to lightly press the paint bottle (or whatever else you need to mix) into the soft rubber top of the unit and hang onto it while the rotating thingy under the rubber cover provides the powerful vibrations to do the mixing – the paint bottle just vibrates, it doesn’t spin, so there is little risk of it flying off across the room. I have tried it out on several older bottles which had significant separation of the pigment and medium, and the paint has been fully re-mixed in around five seconds or so – it certainly beats several minutes of frantic shaking by hand….

It may look, sound (and feel) like a cross between a Dalek and something from the Ann Summers catalogue, but it really does its intended job. It is a good quality piece of equipment that feels as though it should last well, and I’d recommend it if you use a lot of paints, inks or anything else that needs a really thorough mixing before use; it will save a lot of wrist strain!
