Using this product in the bedroom and it has been working great. The amount of water it has in the tank after a hour shows how humid my room was before.
The noise level is quite decent and the night mode helps it in working a little quieter as well.
I would say that this is definitely the correct choice in terms of value and price as it has a very good number of features for the price point it is at.
Previously had a 600W dehumidifier which produced warm air and dried faster but this model, at a quarter of the power rating blows cooler air and is a good unit. Is quieter than my previous model and apart from being heavy which may be a useful feature in terms of not being knocked over easily. If this lasts a few years then it will be a good purchase. Good value for money.
This has been used following building work to help with drying out plaster and paint during the winter months. I really have nothing to compare it with but it seems to be reasonably quiet, reasonably easy to move around and I have absolutely no idea about how energy efficient it is. I have to take the manufacturers word on that one. All in all it really helped with drying out times and isn’t too obtrusive. I have nothing to compare it to but it’s been worthwhile!
I wouldn’t measure this on the three categories suggested (noise, energy efficiency and manoeuvreability) because that’s not why I bought the thing.
It’s a great dehumidifier, I got it for a specific problem in our front wall, it’s managed to draw All the moisture out and keep the air a lot drier, meaning the house heats up quicker. I run it most of the time as recommended, especially when drying laundry. If you’re not very strong it’s probably quite hard to get up and down the stairs as it is quite heavy. Easy to operate though and has genuinely made a difference.
We get a lot of condensation at the windows in our house, especially in the colder months when trying to dry washing.
After reading how to combat this, a dehumidifier was the answer. I was a little nervous about spending so much but I needn’t have worried. We bought the 10l version of this Meaco range and boy is it good.
It has a 6 hour washing dryer button and I was sceptical at first – nope, it really does get the washing more or less touch dry in those 6 hours so no more condensation at the windows.
It is very quiet compared to an old one we had borrowed, and when using in normal mode with the low fan setting, you’d barely notice it.
Wish I had bought a dehumidifier sooner!
Efficient, I have not used it to it’s full potential, as yes, saying I have faith that is a good bit of kit. Had a similar unit for decades, efficient but very noisy. This one is extremely quiet and well thought out in design. Just a little lumpy, maybe casters would not be a bad Idea to make it easier to move around, especially like me elderly.
I like it, but it doesn’t come with wheels. A bit heavy to lug around without wheels.
It works pretty well, but not for large spaces. I have a one bedroom flat and it only saps the moisture from one room and will not work for the entire property unless moved from room to room.
Noise level is pretty low and blends into the background.
Over all – for the price I would say this was an ‘ok purchase’ but nothing mind blowing!
So pleased with this product. I’ve bought a number of dehumidifier before researching this model. I’m using it in a new build property which is a split bungalow, the downstairs room next to the garage without a dehumidifier shows signs of dampness and smells which are now being controlled. I like the indicator of the atmosphere, the machine maintains 55 switching on and off. When I first switched on it was extracting 12 litres of water every day and a half. Two months on and I’ve now gone a week without having to pour out water. So that’s a real positive step forward.
Highly recommend
We were amazed to see how much water vapour this unit extracted from the air in a small kitchen / dining room / bedroom area. Setting it to a target of 60% relative humidity successfully stopped troublesome condensation on all the windows and also stopped the development of black mould growth on ceilings and vinyl wallpaper. For colder nights outside in winter, a 55% setting was needed to stop the condensation. The “laundry” setting runs at a high flow rate for 6 hours and is great to speed up drying of items indoors, and to stop the usual associated condensation.
We now generally switch the unit on after cooking in the kitchen (where most of the water vapour is generated) and dinner, leave it at the high flow rate until midnight, and then reset it to low flow rate overnight. We think only the low flow rate could be described as quiet, but even then it could still disturb light sleepers. The medium and high rates make a noise like an air conditioning unit. One of us uses polyurethane ear plugs for sleeping and those were sufficient to block out the sound at all the flow rates.
A really good product. I haven’t used any dehumidifiers before so I can’t make a comparison but this one is doing the job for me.
I have a small 3 bedroom house and I’am using it for my whole house. I’am surprised as to how much humidity there is in the house. I leave it on for at least 6 hours in the day. At the lower speed setting there is a low hum that can be heard downstairs but its not too bad. It is quite easy to move around although I have just placed it in the hallway upstairs.
Overall I would say its a good dehumidifier.
Does exactly what it’s supposed to, has a very handy screen telling you what the humidity is and keeps it at the pre-set level. When you first get this unit, it will probably run between 1 — 2 weeks solidly until the humidity is at your target level so don’t be surprised if it does this. I set my humidity level to 55 which for me is ideal.
You are going to want to keep your humidity level below 60% as this is when mould starts to proliferate. The air certainly feels lighter (more spring – summer like) and it’s easier to breath in the winter when you want to keep your windows shut, my home also heats more efficiently. This unit makes all the difference for a comfortable environment.
Whilst it’s heavy, it goes about the job of getting rid of excess water in the air as quietly as possible. I’ve set the humidity level, so the machine goes on and off as necessary.
When I first plugged it in, I had to empty the container twice in one week, then once the following week, and now I’ve stopped checking and am waiting for the beep to alert me.
Its too early to comment on energy efficiency, but I’m very happy with it, and I hope it continues to work.
My clothes dry quicker, I don’t have to clean mould off windows and my house is warmer!
Very happy with this dehumidifier. See have 2 as we have a large house and have one in each floor. When the second arrived the lid to the water reservoir was broken, however after contacting the seller a replacement part arrived with 5 days. The supplier could not have been more helpful.
As for the product itself I am amazed at how much water it collects and we already feel it is doing exactly what we wanted. Would highly recommend. It is quiet and even when on overnight in our large bedroom it does not disturb sleep.
I’ve been very impressed with this unit, was a bit bigger than I expected but it’s a nice design and looks fine in the room. I needed something to solve the condensation in my garden office and this has completely got rid of it.
My office was newly built in wet weather so had a fair amount to deal with in the first few days but it cleared it to nothing within in 3 days. Now zero condensation on windows and only have to empty container every 3 to 4 days. It’s not too noisy just like a fan kicking on and off.
All in all a good bit of kit and I’m glad I read other reviews and paid a bit more for this unit as it’s worth it for the job it does
I would certainly recommend this dehumidifier. I bought it for a small 3 room flat, as the humidity was causing a sort of unpleasant smell that I could not shift only by airing the flat. As soon as I started using the Meaco dehumidifier, the smell disappeared. The unit is a great size and doesn’t get in the way, it’s pleasing to look at, and you will be amazed as soon as it starts collecting loads of water. It’s almost like magic. It is quiet, obviously it’s not silent, and sometimes mine starts making a high pitched sound – but this is no worse than a fridge. I think for a small household, it is perfect, and does the job. It wasn’t exorbitant and it arrived promptly.
I got this dehumidifier before Christmas when I found that my furtniture had a lot of mold at the bottom and there was a lot of mold on walls too.
I’ve removed that mold and bought this dehumidifier. It’s been 3 weeks now and I don’t see any new mold growing, furnitures are in perfect condition again!
I also feel a lot better because I had headaches from the mold and it really helps when drying laundry. Definitely recommend! Regarding noise level, it’s ok, I wouldn’t be able to sleep next to it when it’s on high fan but it’s still acceptable.
This dehumidifier is very quiet, if you put the fan on the higher level or use the clothes drying function it is noisier, but it’s not eccesive. I didn’t realise our house was so damp, but for the first few weeks I was emptying the water container every day, now its settled down and I’m emptying it once a week. I like the fact you can set a number you want it to cut off from, ours is set to 50 humidity, when it gets to that the machine switches itself off, then it starts up again as the humidity rises. I would definitely recommend it.
Smallish machine but feels very strong and sturdy. Removes plenty of water from the air, empty every couple of days, property is a large two bed flat. Noise level fine during the day, but we find too noisy for sleeping. Would be more easy to move with wheels but not so heavy to be a real problem. Emptying is very easy. Overall very pleased with this machine.
Just wanted it for a bedroom that has a damp wall, we live in an old house. Marvellous little thing, does the job.
Love the fact you can either set it to run for a set amount of time, or you can’t set the humidity to what you want and it will switch off when that is reached and switch on again when humidity rises, cannot recommend it enough
We live in a 1840 built, 2 bedroom, Cornish cottage. Like all, particularly in the winter, we have some damp issues.
We started our dehumidifier 3 days ago. We had a humidity reading of around 70%
3 days on, it has tonight reduced to just above 55%. Our target is 50%, which we should get to soon.
What is amazing, is the amount of water we have taken out – around TEN LITRES!
The cottage feels better already.
This machine is working, probably better, than we hoped for.
I got this to replace my old Ecoair as it wasn’t energy efficient. That was a top priority for me in a new machine and I can say that this Meaco is very efficient. My old machine ate up 2 of electricity per day so had to go. This one adds such a minimal amount on to my household consumption it’s hard to tell exactly how much is used, but I’d hazard a guess at around 20p. The noise level is far reduced compared to my old model too. I quite liked the noise on the old one but it is handy with it being quieter.
I can’t comment on energy efficiency as I have no idea how energy efficient it is.
Not as easily manoeuvrable as it could be. You have to actually lift it as it won’t wheel along. I bought it to remove water from the air when drying laundry to prevent mould forming on ceiling & walls around wet clothes. Also to speed up clothes drying time during Winter. It seems to collect water very well and pretty fast. Good purchase. I’m happy with it. I returned another model which I bought previously as it did not collect hardly any water but this ones great!
This dehumidifier is just incredible. To keep things simple, if your windows have condensation or your house suffers of some kind of black mould – this is the one for you. My house is an old cottage and we have always had condensation on our upstairs windows. In the winter it just drips water. After buying this and using it in the most cold months of the year, we haven’t seen any condensation at ALL. This is just incredible and we are very happy with our purchase.
The sound isn’t too noisy. It sounds like an old fridge (not bad in any way) so it should bother you at all.
Highly recommended!
Happy with my purchase. Easy to operate. I have put it in my lean to conservatory which I use for for my laundry. It’s mainly glass so it used to get very cold and damp during winters. Since I have starting using my dehumidifier it’s gone mildly cold not freezing as it use to be. The tank takes 2 days to fill up on the laundry mode. Clothes do not dry completely but nearly dry so I put them in the dryer it just takes 10-20 min to dry a 10 kg load. I am waiting for my electricity bill to assess its energy efficiency.
It is amazing the quantity of moist it retains. At the end of the day the tank is full and the room is finally mould free! I would have liked it to have wheels though, but it does the job and it really changed our lives as we don’t have to fight mould with harsh sprays anymore in our bedroom! We always keep it there as it’s the most humid room and works wonder. We generally keep it on throughout the night on a low speed and switch it off during the day, unless we have laundry to dry, in which case we’d put it next to the hanger on laundry mode (takes a while to dry them all though so I’d suggest you leave next to the clothes for about 3/4 hrs to retain excess moist and then move the hanger next to a heater. Next day they are dry)
What an amazing bit of kit. Easy to use controls and the humidity sensor is very accurate as cross checked against a Govee humidity sensor/tracker and in within 1% of accuracy. The 6 hour setting for drying clothes is also great for reducing electric and gets the humidity down from 75-85% to 50-55% during that window. So no more damp around windows and my apartment feels much fresher. The size is easy to live with and the overall design is simple and blends into any room. The cover over the drip tray prevents little splash/spills when removing to go and empty which is better than my last dehumidifier which I gave to my brother. Well happy with the results.
Likes -ease of use,portability .
Dislikes-bit pricey.
We put this in our bedroom as there was damp and mould in a couple of the corners. Not sure yet as early days as to wether it’s cured it , but the amount of water being drawn from room is amazing, the room feels less cold, fairly cheap to run according to information I’ve received. You need to really let it run all day to get the best benefits. On laundry mode it does help to dry clothes quicker. Overall pleased but it is very easy on after purchasing it.
Living in a bungalow we suffer with mould in our bedroom, it gets into the wardrobe and bed drawers. I purchased the humidifier because I know it will help with this problem.. It’s a good size. The digital information on the top keeps you in control compared to other humidifiers I’ve had. I could quite easily sleep with it on with the slow fan setting, the faster speed is too noisy. It is too heavy to move around easily having only one slot to lift it by. It could do with a handle. My husband assures me you can purchase wheels for it. Apart from this I do like it and wouldn’t discourage anyone from buying i
Would definitely recommend for anyone who’s house is slightly damp/humid. It not huge so doesn’t get in the way or look ridiculous out of place. Usually just leave it running for a few hours, set to a certain humidity, turns itself on and off once the humidity set is reached and comes back on if it rises. Have noticed that the damp smell we sometimes get in certain rooms has gone. Always amazes me how much water it collects. The noise level isn’t too bad but there is a quiet mode for night time which isn’t loud enough to keep you awake. It’s got a handle so easier to lift, it’s heavy but manageable.
We had a slight problem with ours after a few months, after going through a few tests with the manufacturer and it still not working, they supplied a courier for us to send it back and a new one when the issue couldn’t be fixed. They made it super easy and there custom services was excellent!
Look no further. THIS is the perfect dehumidifier. Don’t waste your time or money on those ineffective cheap 40 dehumidifiers or moisture traps. This dehumidifier is the one. It 100% solved my damp problems (had a soaking wall and a lot of condensation) and on top of that it runs very quietly unlike other similarly priced dehumidifiers. Just a quiet hum like a fan. No squelching or rotating sounds at all.
If you’re trying to solve a damp problem, stop looking at cheap options that probably won’t work, get this and save yourself some time.
Buying this dehumidifier has been a revelation! Our master bedroom had quite a problem with condensation and mold, especially behind cupboards/wardrobes, in corners etc. The room smelled damp. Since running the dehumidifier for a week, the damp smell has gone completely. The machine collects 3-4 litres of water every 24 hours, you’d never believe there could be that much moisture in the air. We sleep much better and morning coughs have gone!
The machine does sound like an air conditioning unit, but on the slow fan setting, we’ve managed to sleep fine with it on. The benefit of much better humidity is worth the slight noise of the fan.
Seriously, I would not have believed if I hadn’t seen it myself. An absolutely brilliant buy, well worth it. The lower humidity stops mold, reduces house mites, dust and other allergens, it’s made a huge difference in a very short time.
Highly recommend!
I love my new Meaco de-humidifier. I wish I had bought this ages ago. It was only until I had a new kitchen installed and one vent was removed that I realised my small two-bedroomed flat was damp. This has been probably building up for a long time. As the weather changed, i started to get extreme condensation on all my windows, it was so much, I was wiping the windows several times a day and I started a constant dry cough. I am asthmatic and I am always alert to what causes my cough to worsen. I had looked at everything going on and then googled as to why I had condensation. I borrowed an old de-humidifier from a friend and lo and behold, the water extraction was a lot so I decided to buy my own and the water collection increased more with a more efficient machine. No looking back, dry windows and the clothes drying facility is fantastic and no wet windows either. Anyone who has to dry clothes in the house needs one of these machines.
Based on research and reviews, I was between this and the Inventor EVA-II 20L. I went for the latter as it seemed like a better value/money, but the noise was not for me so I returned it and got this instead. And I can say overall I am very pleased.
It is indeed relatively quiet. The compressor does make a rather high frequency whirring sound, the quality is a bit like a far away turbine. It might annoy a few people with high expectations for “silent”, but being high frequency it does not really cross walls/doors so my partner who is a really light sleeper closes the door at night and is fine with it. In its low setting my, iPhone db meter recorded 43dB @ 1m. In comparison, the dehumidifier I tried first, the aforementioned quite popular model, scored over 51dB – I made a little comparison video to help people considering both.
The Meaco seems to have some great build quality – hence no vibrations etc which keep the noise down. It doesn’t have as many settings as others (e.g. just 2 fan speeds etc), but the settings are enough for every use. I personally just set the target humidity at 50 or 55%, set it at low fan speed for least noise, and let it do its work keeping a 2-floor 3-bedroom house at a low humidity level day & night, producing about 3L or so of water in 24h.
No major faults I could find, the improvements could be wheels to make it easier to move around (it is about 11-12kg empty), and perhaps a bit larger container (at 2.6L it is not enough for 24h in my house). You have the option to attach a hose of course for continuous drainage, but most users would use the container.
Update: I’ve had it for 5 months now, always on (well, with a target of 50% so it turns off by itself when reaches that), I notice the sound even less now. It’s been quite good for laundry, you put it next to the rack, switch it on at full or laundry mode and the clothes get dry I’d say in something like 12h (depending on type of clothes – longer for heavy stuff). Pretty good machine.
Mine was delivered today, and it is simplicity itself to use. Plug it in, turn it on, set a target RH, and leave it to do its thing. It is pulling water out of the air, and as a bonus, providing warmth. Cheaper to use than the electric radiators!
I was expecting wheels though. The machine is not a featherweight.
I’m looking forward to trying the laundry mode.
Bought to speed up laundry drying when the central heating is off during the damper parts of summer. It’s worked well and I especially like the 6 hour laundry setting.
Now we’re into autumn, I see no reason to stop using it – clothes are almost bone dry in about 10 hours!
I have yet to drill the wall for the external hosepipe but will probably get this done soon. The reservoir is usually quite full once a day – futher evidence of it doing what it should.
Although I have not commented on energy efficiency, I have not seen a noticable increase in electricity usage. That said, I expect the gas bill will be reduced anyway as the heating does not need to be on as much or as high.
This wee machine has been on night and day after a flood in my house. It gets emptied twice a day, stops when it’s full, I can’t hear it, just a low hum in the room where it is working. It does work. Best thing I’ve bought for my house. It is not light but I’m an old lady and I can carry it up and down stairs. Tip: to replace the water carrier, tip ithe machine forward by 10 degrees and it slips in with no problems at all.
Wonderful first impressions.
We have had a dehlonghi and have used that 24/7 for 2 years to control the High humidity in our flat. Sadly it gave up the ghost. But I have that to compare this to.
Upon unboxing the dehumidifier it is much smaller, sleeker, with a very clean finish. Unfortunately there’s a bit of a scuff mark on ours but nothing worth complaining about.
We immediately plugged it in, and I was delighted to watch the humidity display reduce with every minute the machine was plugged in for.
It definitely seems more efficient at drawing out water than our previous dehumidifier. They both have similar size water storage. This one is filling completely within 5 hours which is over half the time+++ compared to the dehlonghi
The noise level is also much quieter.
I like that this model comes with a laundry feature and plenty of buttons to control the usage.
Overall really impressed and I feel we got good value for money. This seems like a very well made product.
it s a great dehumidifier and does all that it should but its a shame that the after sales is not better .I purchased a filter to go with this machine ,which turned out to be the wrong one , they would not exchange it or refund the cost of the filter because i had opened the package ,which i had to do to see if it would fit ! Considering the cost of the dehumidifier that i had just purchased and being a new customer i would have thought that they could have done something for the good will of the company but no, they left it to amazon to sort out, , which they did, thank you amazon.
my 82 year old mum’s flat had been damp for a long time. she used very small dehumidifiers which took some moisture out but didn’t make too much difference. In one day of use this filled up with about 5 times the volume which shows how much mositure there was. It is very effective and very quiet with a sort of thermostat which you can set at the desired humidity, So from this persepective it is brilliant and I would recommend
It doesn’t get 5 stars though because of the two negatives:
1) it is heavy for my mum to move. it does not come with casters. we even bought casters direct from the manufacturer for about 15 but they don’t actually fit properly, and even then they don’t make it very manoueverable on carpet. surely this should be standard?
2) the instructions for use are poor and the menu a bit complicated, although once you are used it it is not too bad
Very pleased with this Meaco, I’ve had it just 4 days and there’s a noticable difference both in the atmosphere of my small flat and in my health. I have a small flat and it was only by accident I realised I had quite high humidity levels now this machine takes at least 2 litres of water out of the air each day. I leave it running on high power as it automatically cuts out when the set level is reached and switches back on when the level increases. I find it’s quiet to run but it is quite heavy to lift so I slide it on the laminate floor. I can’t say if it’s economical to run yet but other reviews say it is.
So yes, I’m pleased I bought it because there’s a real improvement in my health in that I sleep through the night now, breathing is more comfortable and the brain fog has gone, all that in 4 days with no medication.
Bought it for my small 1 bedroom and livingroom flat with no window or extraction in the bathroom.
Had mould in a few spots on the walls behind things and water condensation on windows this little thing cured it all.
I have it set to run on above 40 humidity level and it runs 24/7 on low fan speed having to clear the water tank every 18-30 hours depending how many showers taken and if theres any clothes drying on radiators.
Beeps once the tank is full, I just empty it to the bath put it back and it starts up automaticly.
And dont need to move it about just left it in the hall close to the shower door and it does the job for a whole flat
Briliant
Its a bit noisy so I close bedroom door for the night and can barely hear i
Bought based on customer ratings and reviews, and pleased to say the model lived up to expectations – the tank fills up within 10 hours. I’m pleased to report that my damp problem of having wet patches on a chimney breast wall have all gone. Recommend to clean the filter out regularly.
Only negative is that you have to lift the unit to move it from one place to another but it is no more heavier than a couple of big bags of grocery shopping.
We use this in a large all glass conservatory during the colder weather. The unit works well and the reservoir is usually full after a day and a half.
There is an audible hum from the unit whilst in use although I am unable to hear it from another room. The noise level would definitely need to be considered if you plan to use this in a bedroom.
Since using the dehumidifier we have noticed that there is much less damp in the conservatory now. We just wish that we had bought it sooner!
I should have bought this ages ago. I do laundry nearly everyday and drying it indoors in the winter means damage this handy little appliance could have prevented. I’m also allergic to dust mites and this works wonders for those little buggers. I’m astounded at how much humidity it absorbs in my small flat and how cleaner the air quality feels using it. Next time I’ll make sure to buy one that’s also an air purifier with a hepa filter but until then this is superb quality for money.
EDIT: I’ve just witnessed just how well this works and I’m probably buying another one. I woke up in the middle of the night to water seeping through the bedroom wall. I used kitchen towels and duct tape to try and seal the cracks to no avail and then I put this in the bedroom on the highest setting. It took 15 minutes for it to absorb all the moisture from the wall and will hopefully keep it dry until someone comes to fix the leak. BUY THIS!
I needed to replace the desiccant humidifier which I’d had running in my cellar for the last five years. Although it’s done a good job (despite one breakdown under warranty), I was aware of the running costs and so spent a long time going through independent reviews and people’s comments on Amazon to find a more efficient solution.
This Meaco ABC unit came out well in the reviews and I have not been disappointed so far. It’s a compressor design so the temperature in the cellar (16C) is pretty much ideal to ensure efficient operation.
The design and user interface is simple and took no time to get acquainted with. The body does not feel quite as solid as the Ecoair DD122 it replaced and the design of water tray is more fiddly to use. I thought I would miss the swinging air vent of the DD122 but after three weeks on it is doing a great job. The humidity level in the cellar is actually slightly lower than I achieved with the desiccant unit and I can see a drop in my electricity usage. The Meaco unit is also really quiet in operation so probably ideal if you want to run it in the main living space of a house.
Finally, I had to contact the Meaco customer service with a question about another unit I had purchased. They were first rate in their response dealing with my enquiry in a very prompt and professional manner. At least I have confidence that should anything go wrong I can speak to a human being to get it resolved.
There are many dehumidifiers out there but I chose this specific one, as nothing else gets close to how quiet it is on the “quiet mode”. Being quiet does not of course mean that it is under performing. Humidity control is just as good as on the normal mode.
I also use the drying function a lot, as I do not like using my tumble dryer all the time. It takes 3-4 hours to completely dry a full basket of laundry, which is great. During winter time I need to empty the tank every 3-4 days, but the first time I used it the humidity was so high in the room that the tank filled up overnight.
In general since I started using it, there is no more wet windows in the morning or mouldy spots in the corners of my room.
I’ve recently moved to a bungalow and found a slight condensation problem which seems common in this sort of house. I chose this dehumidifier for its lower running costs. I’ve had it running over winter in the hall and had no more problems with condensation so it’s certainly done the trick. There was a small mouldy patch in a corner near the outside door that never seemed to dry out but it has now. It’s also done away with steamy windows. I turn it off overnight as I would notice the noise of the fan when the house is quiet. I haven’t had any huge increase in my electricity bill. I don’t think I’ll need to use the dehumidifier much at all over the summer.
Drying clothes indoors on a rainy day when having no room for a dryer isn’t easy. Wet clothes have to dry in a small bedroom & although I have the window open i always worry about the damp that may be getting into the bedroom furnishings as it takes a good 24 hrs to dry. This machine is great, just the right size & works really well in pulling the water & damp and away fast. Clothes dry quicker & room humidity at the proper level. I know because I have a hygrometer which I can move around the house. it’s also very quiet even on high can speed. Have only put 3 stars for manoeuvrability as it is a bit heavy & awkward with only a back grip, would be better if it was a proper central handle or a hand grip on both the side walls, especially for limited mobility folk.
Brilliant device. I wish I had of purchased it when we moved in. We suffered with some condensation on the windows every morning. This was making the silicone around the windows black and mouldy. We had also found a small mould patch on one of the bedroom walls. We regularly open the windows and have the trickle vents open but this ventalation wasn’t sufficient in the winter months when the heating is on alot.
With the dehumidifier set to maintain a humidity of 55% the house feels much fresher and the heating comes up to temperature much quicker. We no longer have an issue with damp or condensation on the windows.
It also comes in handy for drying washing during the winter months when the washing line is out of action.
It looks really nice and sturdy. I tested it when working and it shows 145-155W in full mode and funny enough just 5 W less in eco mode, which is great. My only gripe is it states that it’s good for up to 3 bed house, which I’ll highly doubt. They recommend putting it in the landing area and it’s working there, but it would not suck humidity from adjacent rooms. It’s good for any big room, it will lower humidity there to 55 no problem, to 50 possibly, but with struggle. Probably better option for two bed apartment rather than three bed house. Too weak for i
Very pleased with the dehumidifier so far. It is excellent for drying clothes indoors, within a small area ( which is why I purchased it) , and avoiding the resulting condensation build up. The washing does dry a lot quicker using it, and actually removed creases….double bonus. Easy to empty the water tank, no problem at all. Clear instructions on how to use to obtain maximum benefit. It isn’t too noisy, probably about the same as an electric fan, but as a light sleeper I, personally, couldn’t sleep in the same room whilst it was operating, although I realize it wouldn’t be a problem for everyone. Overall very pleased with my purchase.
Perfect for our 2 bedroom bungalow.
We placed it in the hallway, and it does cover all rooms.
In just few hours of use after we received Meaco managed to collect nearly 500ml of water (shown on photo), and we couldn’t find any condensation on any of the windows.
In just few hours the humidity levels dropped from 75 to 55, did check every room with our portable meter.
Another positive point is that our house is getting warm so much faster now.
This model is definitely powerful enough to cover 1 or 2 bedroom house / flat.
Its amazingly quite too, you will not notice it at all.
Its just perfect!!!
Sometimes you find a brilliant product and this is it. It does exactly what it says it will do. I bought this for a Christmas gift for my husband and it has worked brilliantly. Tried it in the kitchen originally and the air was just so much cleaner. My step-son loaned it to dry out a large area of plaster work in his house and it was dry in no time. We are so impressed with this product, we bought a second one for my step-daughter who has had problems with condensation in her home. She keeps it on often and it has dried out all those horrid patches of mould. Excellent. Highly recommended.
I live in a studio with condensation on windows constantly. I recently got a hamster as well and thought if it’s quiet hamster should be ok with it.
Firstly I still have condensation on windows. I leave it running overnight and in the morning condensation is still there. But I have to say I feel less worried since it runs overnight and apparently it was just about 50% humidity last night so it was ok.
My bathroom is the biggest problem by far and it has 2 large single glaze windows that do not open and I don’t even think the extractor fan extracts to anywhere (stingy landlord!). I pop this bad boy in there after a shower, initially at the doorway of the bathroom and the small cabinet mirror there demists in minutes, then I move it slightly further in and the big mirror in the bathroom also demists swiftly in about 20 minutes compared to the 2 hours it used to take without this!! Having said that the serious deluge on the big glass windows are still there with black and pink mold popping up on the frame; but I think bathroom is just a tad too cold to really dry it out…Unless I run a heater in there whilst dehumidifying!
All in all I am happy with it so far, though no full tanks overnight, so maybe my studio isn’t as damp as I thought it would be?
A few down sides that either I haven’t sussed out yet or are down sides:
– it is a bit heavy and lifting it with the handle recess at the back it is a bit awkward, maybe if handle recess is on either side lifting would be much steadier and easier
– sometimes it won’t let me change fan speeds I don’t know why. Especially after I have set target humidity level.
The dehumidifier has done a great job resolving the moisture/damp problem in our flat. We’ve been using it for over a month now and the humidity has gone down from 88% when we first started it running to being consistently 62-65%. The mould hasn’t returned, there’s much less condensation, my hair dries in about half the time after a shower… It’s been great. For a bigger flat/house you would likely need a more heavy-duty machine.
Noise-wise, it’s not silent but it’s not disruptive. It’s about the same noise level as a fan oven or a fridge in summer.
Cost-wise, it isn’t cheap to run – our energy bills have gone up by over 40 per month. Presumably we won’t have to run it as much or as often when winter is over though. And it has improved the living conditions brilliantly.
So, this isn’t by any means a long term review, just the first few days of ownership. But I thought best to leave a review, as my initial impressions have been brilliant so far.
Unit is well packaged and thought out, the company seem to care which is a big bonus, just going on the presentation of the machine itself and accompanying documentation.
It’s quiet, stylish and damn well does the job at hand. We bought this after our apartment (master bedroom, en-suite bathroom, hallway, kitchen/lounge) started to become very humid in the cold months we are now in, reaching around 82% in the living areas, 90%+ in the bathroom at all times. We were seeing condensation on the walls and windows, as well as mould growth. The air felt heavy, damp and cold. You could feel it. Washing took forever to dry on radiators and would often smell or remain damp afterwards. Being in London, we can’t exactly open the windows all day and let air flush through and the weather hasn’t exactly helped that either. We needed a dehumidifier.
After looking on Which and Amazon, decided to buy this out of recommendation and price to performance. So far, it has not disappointed at all.
Set it up on auto with a target of 55% humidity and left it running with all doors open in the middle of the apartment. Within the first hour of runnnig there was a noticable difference in the weight of the air, it already felt much fresher, with the sound when near it of trickling water being sucked from the air. Within the first 6, it dropped the humidity from 82% to 70% (bathroom finally dried too!) and removed a whole tank of water from the air in the apartment, from about 4pm to 10pm. I was astonished just how much water was in the air. Left it running over night and it was down to 59%, another tank full. With the bedroom door shut and it just on the other side, you can’t hear it on full power.
So far, I love it. The air is fresh and light again, it feels warmer and no condensation on walls and windows. The bathroom is finally dry and clothes not damn or smelling. Much better nights sleep! Let’s just hope I never have to use that 2 year warranty!
Edit: We set it up in the center of the apartment on Sunday when it arrived, in the hallway with all doors open, set to an auto target of 55% humidity. The hallway is as central as you can get in this place. The difference is astonishing. First few days, we emptied the tank 3 times every 24 hours. By mid week it had settled down to twice in 24hrs, and by the end of the week once in 24hrs with the unit only switching itself on once every other hour for about 30 minutes to regulate the humidity. The difference is incredible;
– The air is light and fresh again, the cold doesn’t feel cold, the place retains heat unbelievably better and when we do turn the heating on, 10 minutes as we are toasty again!
– Mould has stopped
– Damp/condensation has all cleared up, windows are now perfectly clear again and walls dry!
– The solid oak doors have shrunk, this sounds weird but when we moved in they were fine. Then after a few months we noticed we couldn’t shut them properly, swelling due to the humidity. Now just just glide shut again!
– Clothes no longer smell or are damp.
– Clothes actually dry! And so does the bathroom!
– Generally, it’s a much nicer place to be, more homely and fresh
The unit itself is so far brilliant; well made, stylish, efficient and quiet (bedroom door shut you cannot hear it). I’m still amazed just how much water comes out of the air when emptying the tank!!
Smart looking dehumidifier bought for our main bedroom which has suffered with condensation and mould issues for years during the winter months. We’ve tried many remedies to no avail so decided to buy this. It’s easy to use and is definitely doing the job as I’ve emptied the tank 6 times in 3 weeks which means it’s removed 15 litres of moisture from the air! We don’t have it on 24/7 but probably 12 hours a day at the moment. The room smells fresher and I haven’t seen any sign of mould. I do still wipe the windows if they are particularly wet but usually I don’t need to. It’s fairly quiet but I wouldn’t be able to sleep with it on. The only issue I have is that it’s very heavy and without castors, it’s very hard to move around so bear this in mind if you are intending to move it around your house. Overall this dehumidifier is a great buy so far.
This dehumidifier is brilliant! Got very bad damp and mould issues this winter and WOW….this sucks so well that the walls are starting to dry out and no more mould! A bit of a hum but I am amazed how quiet it is compared to others. You do have to hoover the filter as mine went black and somehow marked the carpet from underneath, I honestly thought it had burnt the carpet. I emailed the company but got no reply. Luckily I was able to wash it out so just keep an eye on it. Best to put it on a rug as the feet are very short, it would be nice if there were wheels. But apart from that it tells you the humidity levels and you can program it to your preference. I really like it.
I own a two bed bungalow that i am renovating. I noticed mould growth on a new wall I put up and suspected humidity to be there primary cause.
I researched the different makes and models and meaco appeared to be a costly yet well reviewed solution.
Setup and operation is very easy. The humidity started in the mid 80s and dropped to low 50s after a few days of use. The noise is noticeable but doesn’t bother me even though it’s next to my bed. I chose this cheaper low end model but am happy it’s powerful enough for the job. I will be testing how it handles humidity tonight when I will be drying washing in doors as it’s winter. As long as it lasts, I will keep the review at five stars.
My bed feels more comfortable and bedding doesn’t appear to feel as dirty with the lower humidity.
Would happily recommend if you are in a similar situation.
Bought this to help combat mould/condensation in the upstairs of a poorly heated/ventilated/insulated Victorian house. Used it in the bedroom we sleep in initially and then on the upstairs landing. After a week there is a noticeable change to the ‘feel’ of the air in the bedrooms and overnight condensation on the windows/in the chimney recesses is vastly reduced.
Emptying about 1/3rd of a tank per day. Shows around 70% humidity on start up in the morning and usually gets it down to 55% by mid afternoon. (Note that when you first switch it on the humidity reader takes a few minutes to settle down – ours kicks off at 98% but then calms down to a much more sensible figure).
There is a ‘sleep’ mode which turns off all the LED display for those who dislike lights in the bedroom – trouble is that the machine (and the fan in particular) was a touch loud for us – we live in an isolated spot with absolutely no background noise overnight, if you lived in a town/city then you may find that the fan is not that noticeable.
Running it through a sensor plug is showing 0.2 to 0.3 KwH/day so the electricity bill is not going to be a whopper.
Overall very pleased – should have bought one years ago.
I have no ventilation in my bedroom and have developed a black mould problem. Did some research on dehumidifiers and this came highly recommended. Grabbed one off of Amazon and the only regret that I have is not getting one earlier! I personally couldn’t sleep with it running in the background although to be fair I have yet to find many products that claim to be sleep friendly are anywhere near as quite as claimed and in fairness the higher fan setting is A LOT quieter than my parents unit from some brand that I’ve never heard of and it does have a lower setting that’s not too loud so probably OK for heavy sleepers. Its easy to set up and relatively portable. The back comes off easily enough without feeling cheap and unstable and there is a cover on the drainage part to help prevent water spillage when emptying. The only thing that they could have mentioned and to be fair its probably me lacking common sense but when you switch the unit off, give it a while before emptying as some water will continue to drain for a short while after turning it off and although it wasn’t bad it did release some water when I went to empty it too soon the first time round. To conclude if you lack ventilation its an absolutely great purchase that takes in a lot of liquid from the moisture in your rooms and it does seem to leave my bedroom feeling a bit fresher after using it in the morning.
After years of wiping condensation from the inside of our windows during winter and dealing with small mould patches we finally took the plunge and after lots of research settled on the Meaco ABC 12. It has completely solved the problem in our 2 bedroom bungalow. It is amazing how much water it collects in a day. It can quickly reduce moisture from around 68 to 52. It is fairly quiet on low fan speed and we can leave it on in the hall outside our bedroom whilst we sleep. We leave it in the hall most of the time and it is powerful enough to dry the whole bungalow. Everything in the home feels dryer and warmer. Definitely one of the best purchases we’ve made.
This machine does a great job of removing all the condensation in my conservatory which gets very cold over night in the winter. It’s quite heavy which is a plus because it makes it very stable & I think once you have it in place you probably wouldn’t need to move it. The tank is simple to empty but make sure that you can reach it easily to avoid having to move everything around too often due to the weight, it also has a cut off feature when it’s full which is brilliant. It’s a good size & not “in your face” in the room & it’s very quiet when working. My smart meter shows that it’s economical to run so very very impressed with it at the moment & I’d definitely buy another.
This product is simple to use. I positioned in the hallway and leave it on constant set on the recommended 55% humidity setting in the first three days it pulled out a full tank a day now it’s settled down, and takes 2 to 3 days to fill. No damp on windows, and usually cold and damp walls are feeling dryer. I have an under stairs cupboard in hallway and I’ve been leaving it ajar on way up to bed it’s definitely smelling a lot fresher than before. All in all an excellent product & I would not let the price put you off ! You get what you pay for & a 2 year guarantee.
I have a small dehumidifier for my kitchen which has been good, but I wanted a larger one that would do the job in the conservatory in which we placed a panel heater to help dry out washing during the winter, but as this was going to create a lot of condensation it was important to keep this at bay. We also wanted something that wasn’t going to cost a fortune to run and after reading the reviews for this Meaco, I thought I’d give this a whirl and I’m very glad we did.
There is an easy to use interface which enables you to set the required humidity level (we set ours to the recommended setting of 55) and you can set it to run on either high or low (depending on how much the area needs dehumidifying). You basically just switch it on and leave it running and it will switch on and off automatically when the humidity rises over the set level until it brings it down again. This it does without having to fiddle with it, therefore it pretty much runs itself.
There is an additional function – “laundry” – which you can switch on – designed for once you’ve hung up your washing and it drags the moisture out of the air faster. This function runs for 6 hours and then switches off. The only downside with this is that (from what I have experienced, so far at least), once the 6 hours has passed on laundry mode the machine doesn’t automatically restart and you have remember to go back and switch it on again, which is a bit of a pain (I expect there may be a way to set it so this doesn’t happen, but I haven’t worked it out yet). You also have to check on it every so often to make sure the water collection isn’t full as the machine will switch off then too. Apart from that, you can leave it on to do its thing.
The amount of water this machine has pulled out is astronomical!! I can honestly say we have not had ONE drop of condensation since using it. We also have a smart meter and can see that it doesn’t use a lot, despite being on 24/7. I am SO impressed and extremely glad I bought it. I told my parents about it and they have now bought exactly the same one, for the same reasons and they are also equally impressed and over the moon with the difference it has made.
I would recommend this dehumidifier to anyone.
Very satisfied with this dehumidifier – it’s the first I’ve bought, so I can’t compare it to any other models, but it has met all my expectations. Wish I’d bought one years before! I bought it to help dry laundry indoors – so there’s not a damp problem from the structure of the house, just high humidity from laundry – and I’m using it at normal household temperatures. Clothes dry much much faster and I no longer have to worry about ventilation or causing damp problems.
Noise-wise, I would not want to sleep in the same room as the machine when switched on, but I leave it on in the spare room with the door closed and I don’t even notice it in the rest of the house.
I was a bit sceptical about getting a compressor dehunidier after some bad bad experiences in the past. I had to replace a dessicant dehunidier after it started to smell so I thought i would give this a shot. Let me reassure you dear reader, this thing is quiter than my previous highly rated dessicant dehunidier, it looks better, it sucks up as much water if not slightly more and best of all it uses literally half the power! Great product! For those people saying it blows cold air I put a thermometer on it and the air is slightly warmer than ambient (as you would expect from thermodynamics), it’s just not burning energy on heating up the air a lot. Having said that I still wouldn’t have it in my bedroom as ultimately you can still hear the noise of the fan, maybe that won’t bother some.
Bought this to help dry washing on my indoor airer as my living area is small and feels very damp with washing up. With a bit of heating on as well the washing is dry in under 24 hours. (To put into context, without heating on cotton items can take nearly a week to dry!). Not too noisy on the lower setting. I use the higher setting at night when I’m not in the room (and it’s cheaper to run then). Extremely easy to use. Quite heavy if you need to move it around. (Have no idea how noisy/heavy other modern dehumidifiers are though so can’t compare). I’m very pleased with it.
With the onset of autumn we had noticed mould appearing around the windows of our home, and on some of the colder external walls. We deduced that the problem was drying our laundry inside; we don’t have a tumble dryer and as a family of five including a baby, there’s a fair amount of laundry! Anyway, we wanted to do something about the mould, and decided on this dehumidifier.
EFFECTIVENESS: this dehumidifier is extremely effective. It lives in our utility room, and when we first got it the humidity was 88%! It ran constantly for a couple of days, and has now brought it down to the recommended 55%, and basically only turns itself on when there is laundry drying. Our home is 100 sq m, a small four bed, and this dehumidifier seems perfectly adequate for us. There is no longer condensation on the bedroom windows in the morning. We removed the mould when it arrived, and it hasn’t reappeared.
LAUNDRY: A happy side effect is that we can now dry two full loads of laundry in under 24 hours, and our utility room is only about 18C. Very nice not to have laundry hanging everywhere all the time.
COST: I let everything settle down, and then started measuring energy usage. Over a full week, the dehumidifier used 9kWh, which on our energy tariff is 1.20. This fits with what I expected as our electricity bill has gone up by about 5 a month. Over that week I ran 7 loads of laundry of varying sizes, and emptied the dehumidifier tank 3 times.
NOISE: It is quite noisy, I would say similar to an air conditioning unit. We had it in our living room for one evening, just to see, and I wouldn’t want it in there permanently, but I don’t notice it in the utility room.
OVERALL: I am really pleased with this purchase. We are quite frugal, so I was concerned about the running costs, but as we will only use it in the winter (laundry goes outside in the summer), I anticipate running costs of about 35 a year, which is a small price to pay for a mould free home, and laundry drying in one day rather than three (and even then feeling a bit damp). The alternative for us was to purchase a tumble dryer, but I think this is cheaper both to purchase and in running costs, and kinder on our clothes too.
We just replaced our Eco Air with this machine and it’s fab. We use it in our shower room that is essentially a cupboard with no ventilation. Our Eco Air was great however for something you need to use everyday this seems to be more powerful and has much better features like a digital humidity gauge and sleep timer. The sleep timer is great when you want it on and have to leave the house but don’t want it to run all day. It is more powerful/effective with less damp appearing in the bedroom (where we access our shower room). Noise wise it’s quieter however you can still hear it. Highly recommend.
I bought this dehumidifier to sort out my small cold utility room and enable me to dry washing. It is very easy to set up and is very quiet. The laundry setting runs for a set time and allows things to dry on the rack. I fitted a plastic pipe (bought locally for 3) to the spigot in the water container which drains into the sink, so there is no worry about needing to empty the container.
I leave it on the whole time and the utility room nows feels dry and much less cold although the only form of heating is the heated airer.
I thoroughly recomend this piece of kit which is invaluable for keeping humidity to comfortable levels.
I bought this to replace a 10-year-old Delonghi DEM-10. I’d had to take it apart a few times to clear out the dust and it had started to leak.
In comparison to my old Delonghi, this machine is quieter, smaller, easier to clean out, and much more effective at extracting water from the environment. I’m thinking of switching to the hose outlet (not supplied) to save emptying the container twice a day. It also uses less energy.
I have a bathroom without an air vent and also dry all my washing indoors so a dehumidifier is essential. This one has 2 fan settings, allowing me to boost it when I need to. There is also a ‘washing’ setting which manages the fan in a room full of drying washing.
The machine looks good (I went for the silver accent) and has a handle built in to enable it to be relocated easily.
I’m extremely pleased with the dehumidifier, I did look at reviews, and a few other cheaper makes and I kept coming back to this one.
I used it all day for 3 days when I first got it, after that I use it 3/4 hours a day, I keep it in the kitchen near my washing, and it helps to dry it, I do use the dryer also. But what’s best, is when I’m cooking using pans, I have the dehumidifier on, as I don’t like having the window open when it’s cold, I know don’t have steamy windows it’s great, the noise is not bad, I actually like to hear it, so I know that it’s on.
I’m new to dehumidifiers so I don’t have much to compare it to. That being said it does exactly what I expected it to do when I bought it…
My flat is a modern (c. 2005) two bed, with good insulation, about 60sqm / 600 sqft in size.
I have smart humidity sensors (Netatmo) in all the rooms, and I connected the dehumidifier in the hallway just outside the bathroom, on a smart plug with power measurement (TP-Link HS110).
I left the device on as advised in the manual, with a target humidity of 55% which seems to be a consensus for homes. On this mode it will continuously monitor the humidity and start up when it deems it necessary. It stops automatically when the desired humidity level is reached or the tank is full.
It has a full power fan setting which I can clearly hear from the room next door with the door open, and a lower fan setting which can be still heard if you are in the same room but isn’t that annoying. It also has a sleep mode in which on top of running with the lower power fan mode it disables all lighting and beeping e.g. tank full alert. I keep it on that mode always, arguably it means I have to check the tank myself but in the end I only have to empty it every two weeks or so. I wouldn’t actually sleep next to it though that would probably be a bit annoying.
Thanks to my smart devices I have some nice graphics with the electricity consumption and the humidity in the flat. The effect of the device in humidity is visible on the graphs, but it did take several days before the humidity in the flat stabilized to around the desired level (from about 70 down to 55%). During those initial days it was running almost constantly and I had to empty the tank every day. Since the humidity reached good levels it got much less busy and the tank doesn’t get full in a week.
The story is similar with power, where during the first days it was running at 3KWh/day, down to 0.11KWh/day in the past 7 days. Note that your mileage may vary greatly, depends on the size of the flat, draft, insulation, temperature, central heating activity etc… I’ll only know the full picture after a full year has passed I reckon, but I’m expecting a few pounds a month running cost at max.
It doesn’t look bad either.
Also to note you need to keep the doors open if you want it to work on your whole house. If you don’t you’ll probably need more than one device.
All in all a good purchase. The only features that it’s missing is proper connected stuff: remote management, etc. Not a deal-breaker though.
We’re a family of 3 with a 15 month old, and have been air-drying inside for years now.
Our place is a top floor maisonette, and suffers the standard airflow, stuffiness, humidity – but not as bad as ground floor.
Previously we were doing things like:
Keeping bathroom windows open for hours after a shower
Keeping bedroom windows near the clothes rack partially open whilst they dry
Drying clothes, which would take up to 3 days in the colder winter months
Airing the place and opening the loft hatch to get more airflow around
Dealing with the cold as a result
Burning plenty of gas on the central heating
It took around a day or two of pretty much continuous use for the air to drop from average 70% humidity to 50-55%. The target is 55% by the way.
The unit has a two-digit display that simply shows humidity by default, and LC when you lock it. The child lock is SUCH a good feature as our little fella will play drums on the top and push buttons (thankfully he hasn’t worked out that holding the fan down for >2 seconds disengages it).
Pros
Top one first – heating and ambient temperature are now reduced and increased respectively. This is incredible. For example: we have hardly used the heating since it turned cold and if we do, it takes SIGNIFICANTLY less time to warm the place due to the reduced humidity (we’re talking well under half the time). This means less on gas bills, and a marginal increase in electricity – I’ve checked and already have made a saving on last year’s gas and overall saving when including the electricity uplift. As ambient temperature has gone up, less heating is required overall – we average 19 degrees now.
All of this means that the bathroom doesn’t really need to have the windows open when taking a shower – obviously a prolonged bath would still necessitate it, but things in the bath dry quicker too.
We place it in the landing area, which connects all doors to all rooms, and within an hour, humidity will now get from 60 down to 50 having used it for a few weeks. I’ve seen it go as low as 46.
The humidity reading is fairly accurate – The Nest thermostat reads almost the same (2%), and the Dyson tower fan cooler has the same margin of error.
Drying clothes inside now takes mere hours, even in the winter months (as of writing), this includes bed sheets, though obviously bathmats will take longer if they’re really heavy cotton. You can also use a 6 hour program for this with one button.
The air feels cleaner and less heavy, and smells from cooking linger less – obviously YMMV on this, but when we do fish for example, the whole place doesn’t stink for days now
I recommend placing the unit with the rear (intake), TOWARDS the source of damp – washed clothes, bathroom etc. as it will suck this in and then pass out dried air. This works best in my testing.
You can connect it in and run it permanently, if you choose to buy a hose, noting that it doesn’t ship with one to cut down on plastic waste.
The tank takes on average a good 16 hours to fill in normal use, sometimes a day, especially if the air is already fairly dry and warm. Even drying clothes, I’ve had it run for almost 20 hours and it’s not been quite full.
I use the water tank to flush the toilet to save water there.
The display can be turned off at night, so no annoying bright-LEDs to keep you awake.
Cons, not that there are many:
It makes a beep when turning on (and just connecting to mains), child locking/unlocking, removing the water tray ( 5 beeps), and whilst not particularly loud, I’d like a way of turning this off.
The unit filter is just a basic mesh, it’s not HEPA, nor can I find a replacement filter that will fit that is HEPA. I decided not to bother with the HEPA as this is supposedly quieter and more efficient than the next model, and we have a Dyson fan that has a HEPA filter already.
When pulling the tray out while operational, there is a short delay while it trips out – meaning there will be a few drips of water. Not much, but worth mentioning.
There is no way to angle the fan – it’s locked in a slightly-off vertical angle. This has never been an issue, but if you want to point it – look at another model.
It’s fairly heavy, but again, nothing for an average adult.
The handle for moving it at the back will tilt it due to the centre of gravity, which means if the tank is relatively full, it’ll spill, so use two hands to keep it upright.
In hindsight, I would possibly have gone for the HEPA model and tolerated whatever increase in noise was present, but for now and with a continuous month of usage, this was absolutely worth the money and will likely pay for itself just in this winter period alone.
This is not actually a purchase for myself but it soon will be. I was asked by my daughter to purchase this for her as she has moved into a home that has a little mould and condensation issue on the windows. Her windows are not vented and at this time of year there is nowhere for the moisture to go except gather on the glass
window panes. She called me the day after she received this to say the condensation was less and by day two it had all gone. She is drying washing in the house. She placed the dehumidifier close to the clothes horse and in no time extracted 6 litres of water from the room. This is a very quiet petite unit compared to some that is a work horse. It runs quietly enough to sleep at night with it in the room and does very well for its compact size.
Edit: I have now purchased one too. I live in a new build property that doesn’t really suffer too much with condensation yet but at this time of year drying washing in the house is increasing humidity. I was shocked to see just how much moisture these units take out of the room. The video clip I provided doesn’t do the unit justice, the microphone makes it appear louder than it actually is.
I live in a room in an old style house above a cold damp cellar. Due to the cellar and old floor boards I had a massive issue with rising damp and condensation. At first I wasn’t sure if I wanted to pay that much for the dehumidifier but with winter coming and mould becoming a big issue, I went for it.
I could not be more happy with the results. The humidity went from 90% down to 60% and I’ve had no more problems with mould or damp clothes. It is quiet enough that i can easily go to sleep with the machine running only 3 yards from my bed and I only need to empty the tank once a day. The controls are dead easy, just set your desired humidity level and done.
Really happy with my purchase!
Arrived as promised, looks great and I am very pleased. (See bottom of this review for additional comments after one and a half months use.)
Ok so this review is after less than one day but I am exceptionally pleased. The instructions are simple and it worked straight from the box. In less than 5 mins I had checked the instructions and it was running. It looks good the controls are simple and it works as it says. I am particularly pleased that it switches off when the required humidity is reached but checks the air now and then and automatically restarts if the humidity rises. I have nothing to compare it with but it is doing what it says and taking water out of the air and I am delighted. I looked hard at the reviews and while there are slightly cheaper options this one really stood out as reliable and effective.
It says it is quiet and it is quiet on the low setting, but I wouldn’t want it in the bedroom, perhaps I would get use to it but I am a bit sensitive to noise. The high setting is still not noisy though, it is not in the room I mainly use and I can hear it but in general the sound is lost in the general daily white noise of a home, like the central heating boiler and passing cars etc.
Visually I like that the water tank is situated at the back, it leaves a lovely smooth white presentation with rounded corners, I think they have worked hard at its appearance and it doesn’t look out of place in my home. Practically though I find it awkward to reach over and remove the water tank from the back but I guess it will be easier after I have had to do it a few times and got the hang of it (* see comment later). But I am happy to have a little difficulty to get the neat smooth appearance.
So I have no hesitation with giving it 5 stars in all areas but have not rated energy efficiency as I have not had it long enough. From my present perspective I have no hesitation in recommending this product, I think you will be very pleased with it.
I will come back to this review and add more when I have had it for a few months.
:- – Second Review – Well after 50 days I am still delighted, it has worked solidly every day. When the outside humidity is high and the house humidity rises this unit takes out more than 6 lt in 24 hours – this is good for a domestic appliance at normal room temperature. I have found that it works almost as well at low speed as it does at full speed, still taking out lots of moisture. The house feels different.
It is worth experimenting with the location to get the best extraction rate. It is important to give it space around the back so you cant pop it tight in a corner and expect it to be excellent, the instructions say 50 cm clearance, probably good but i’m finding 35 cm works well in a central airy location.
It seems to be coping well with a 2 bedroom chalet bungalow.
Defiantly 5 stars and I am still delighted.
Bought this for my mum who has a major damp problem in her basement level flat. The damp was causing a pungent scent in the apartment and also clothes would take weeks to dry after a wash – there was also peeling paint on the walls and a general feeling of dampness in the fabrics around the place. Since we set this up all that has gone, the paint stopped peeling and the clothes dry fast and the pungent scent is probably 70% reduced.
At first I felt I ought to have bought the 12L rather than the 10L – but now I realise that I made the correct decision because that only refers to max ‘capability’ in a 24 hour period. The fact is that both have the same size collection tray and therefore once it is full the device stops running until it has been emptied anyway. Also running at max power it only seems to drain a full tank every 20-24 hours so the larger capacity (and consequently bigger price tag) would have made no difference
More than happy with this purchase – highly recommended to anyone living in the UK – which is rather like living in a swamp – this device manages a 2 bed flat quite comfortably – it has a hum of an engine so definitely you would not want any of these running in a bedroom at night (unless you either sleep easily or have an atrocious damp issue that simply needs dealing with).
On a scale of 1-10 of severity of damp problem I would have rated ours at a 7 and this single device has had a significant impact on that so it goes without saying that it works and is highly recommended
it’s too soon to say what effect it is having on the electricity drain but the material suggests that it burns about 1.5p an hour which is a fair price to pay to have a dry, clean and comfortable environment to live i
I was getting very wet windows in the morning in cold weather for years, so had to do something about it. I was looking at all makes and types of dehumidifiers and the Meaco range were coming with great reviews so just had to pick the 1 that I thought best for me. I opted for the Meaco MeacoDry Dehumidifier ABC Range 10LS .As I plugged it in it was so easy to use and so quiet. and when I woke in the morning my windows were completely dry and checked if there was any water in it had 11?2 litres of water in the tank I was amazed. I had placed the dehumidifier in the center of my top landing that was between the my bathroom and main front bedroom and right opposite my back bedroom and it has worked very well from 6pm at night and 6am in the morning at the recommended settings provided in the handbook you get with it, I am so glad I purchased the dehumidifier it saves me drying all windows every morning and the house just feels just right.
First of all I must admit I haven’t got anything to compare this with as it’s my first dehumidifier, but it certainly does a job! I have a small, two-bedroom bungalow with a condensation problem – in the autumn I would spent the first ten minutes of each day mopping water off the insides of the windows and I was getting black mould and peeling wallpaper around doors and windows. This dehumidifier was said to be able to cope with a three bedroom house so I thought it should be well enough for my little place. I set it to work straight out of the box – just set the desired humidity to 55 as recommended, plonked it down in the centre of the house and switched it on ‘high’. I *could not believe* how much water came out of the air! You have to empty it pretty regularly although it simply switches off when it’s full. It took about three days to get the humidity levels in the house down, and now my condensation problem seems to have gone (and my washing dries super fast!). They say it costs 2.4p an hour to run, which is about 18 a month if you have it set constantly on high. This seems quite a lot, but I can’t actually imagine life without it now. It isn’t particularly quiet – on the ‘high’ fan setting you might not want it close to where you sleep, although it’s a very calm, constant white noise sound which could even be quite soporific if you’re not the sort to let it bother you. The sound has been compared to a really old laptop fan – I’d say it’s slightly louder but a nicer kind of sound. The ‘low’ fan setting is much quieter. Sometimes it doesn’t stop dehumidifying at 55, and I’ve had to reboot it a couple of times, but I’m generally delighted with this item and now can’t imagine i’d ever want to be without it.
I live in a 200 year old house and downstairs is very damp and literally had water running down the walls in one of the rooms. I’d previously been using a massive old industrial sized dehumidifier I’d been given and although it filled with water you couldn’t feel the difference. With this one after two days running all the streaming water and condensation is gone and you can actually feel the improvement in air quality. Its quiet (although I would’t want to be trying to watch TV in the same room as it)
Now programmed to turn itself on when the humidity increases over 60%, Its small, portable, and works great. Didn’t think a dehumidifier would be this effective… but it is.
I used this in my basement as the ceiling was starting to get a fair amount of moisture on and it was making the plaster crack and fall off. The floor boards were also starting to feel really damp too. I’ve got a ventilation system down there (from the previous owner) but it’s not really doing anything. I’ve had the dehumidifier running for about 5 or so hours since it was delivered today and it’s already half filled with water and the ceiling now feels dry. The humidity in the room was apparently 95% and is now down to 72%. I’m not expecting miracles but the results are plain to see. Really glad I made the purchase because it could save me a lot of money in the long run.
Bought this a a replacement for my dessicant dehumidifier which I no longer needed due to moving to a property with gas central heating (a dessicant is better used in a poorly heated property as it gives out heat)
Delivered next day and it’s brilliant. Much quieter than my old one. It’s outside my bedroom and doesn’t disturb my heat. Simple to use and I set it at 50%. Once it reaches that level it cuts out and comes back on when level is over 50
Water extraction is excellent. Auto stops when tank is full. Easy to empty and filter is easy to clean. Energy consumption is much less than my other one and extracts the same amount of water. I dry clothes on a clothes airer. I stand it next to the dehumidifier and leave it on the lowest setting. Overnight the clothes dry. I have used the higher speed which is noisier but dries the clothes in a few hours.
No condensation on windows and the dry musty smell in my flat has gone
If you have a centrally heated property this one is ideal as it used less energy. A dessicant dehumidifier is more suited to a poorly heated property as it will give out some heat as well but will use more power.
This has to be the quietest compressor dehumidifier out there.
This is my first ever dehumidifier so take this review as from a novice without anything to compare to.
The unit is very pleasingnon the eye and a good size… i went for the smaller 12L rather than a diff 20L due to size. This does a decent job in my 2bed flat. Condensation is reduced and I’ve only had it couoke of days. I will probably need to check after few weeks if mould spots reappear etc. But in 2days it has pulled over 5litres of water.
The built is really good… though i feel the water tank though good could have been abit better.
I use a heated air for clothes and have not noticed a dramatic change in the time it takes to dry clothes….
Being a flat with no window in bathroom a dehumidifier is a must and so far this is doing a good job. I am moving it around to cover all areas and it is a heavy unit and not easiest to handle for some….
Overall, i am happy with the amount extracted but hoping this will continue as im only in week 1
I saw this dehumidifier advertised on a TV shopping channel and did a little research into the company before purchasing. We have had an on going issue with condensation and mould in our house, we do have air vents in the rooms but it’s an older property which still struggles with ventilation. We also have a very old conservatory on the back which is always dripping with water. I have had this dehumidifier on for around 5 hours a day and for the first few days it was on permanently almost filling the tank. It has now reduced the humidity level throughout the house and only intermittently comes on when needed. The fan is the only part of this device that you really hear and it is only using around 2p an hour to run. Both my partner and me have noticed that the air feels warmer so we have been using the heating less which costs considerably more to run than this humidifier. If you constantly have condensation/mould issues I would strongly recommend this Meaco ABC humidifier.
I read the reviews and was not disappointed.
I’ve had it for 4 days now and I can honestly say that my wet windows in a morning are a thing of the past.
It’s really easy to use with 2 fan settings, as you would expect the noise from the higher setting would not be suitable for night use, but setting one is really quiet
I’d read that emptying the water tank was a bit tricky, but I’ve not had any difficulties. The air that blows out of the top is dependant on the room temperature. I’m really pleased and it’s been more than adequate for my 3 bedroom house, as I didn’t want an unsightly large machine
Had this machine for about 5 hours now & it has sucked over a litre of water from my living room, brought the humidity down from 70% to 50% and is now cycling itself on & off by the built in humidistat.
It’s a great little machine, not too big or heavy. No castors, so you need to be able to lift & carry 10kg to move it about.
The water tank is a bit fiddly to get back in, & make sure you wait about 10mins after switching it off before removing the tank or you’ll get a puddle.
I thought I’d ordered the smaller 10ltr model, but clearly not…. On the plus side, this 12ltr is probably big enough to
de-water-fy the whole house overnight, which I’ll be trying out this evening.
No idea on cost to use, but I expect not a lot if the stated wattage is accurate. It won’t be run 24/7, most likely overnight & it cycles on & off.
If you read the specs properly then you won’t be disappointed with this dehumidifier. It seems a lot of people have somehow been confused with how big the tank is but if you read the specs it does say. Not too noisy and very good value for money. The moisture levels in my bedroom have dropped significantly as has the black mould in the corner of the room.
My only gripe is that when you remove the tank to empty the water you have to wait a minute for any excess water to drain into the tank otherwise you’ll end up with water leaking all over the floor switch the machine off and leave it for a minute. That being said this is a very minor thing and other than that it’s a great machine.
so far just writing a review after the first use. I’ve been using a 12 year old dessicant dehumidifier and although I still think that machine is great I have been aware of how much electricity it uses. This one uses less than 3 times as little and has been running on minimal mode most the time today so will pay for itself in no time.
The first thing I must note is how quiet it is. I know I went for the quietest I could find but I am surprised at how little it hums, as quiet as my dessicant one I would say.
I am still getting used to how it actually works, there is very very little info in the manual. Like once it reaches the set humidity what does it do next. One time I checked on it it had turned itself off, another time it switches from full power to minimum power, at the moment it is sitting at 1% above the set temperature and is off, does it turn itself back on if humidity reaches a certain point again? I hope so but so far working great and saving power.
It seems like a good purchase. Doing exactly what I wanted it to do, being slightly more powerful than my last one I think. So I would recommend it – however I have a few of small niggles with it
-first the bad manual and what it actually does once it reaches the set humidity
– second is the water tray is at the back of the unit. This bothers me. On my last one the tray was on the same side as the controls so all straightforward and easy to get to. Minor niggle really that just means the controls are basically upside down the way I like to use it – ie able to change reservoir fast and easily. The unit looks better with the water level indicator forwards anyway so yes slight design flaw.
– this is nothing wrong about the unit , it’s just my last one had a directional flap to direct the exiting air in any direction. I really liked that feature which I will miss but not a deal breaker.
– and lastly one more niggle I have is that although it seems more powerful at reducing humidity than my last machine, where my last machine would have pulled out 1l of water from the air this machine did not produce any water. I could see it was working great but I was wondering where the water was going, until eventually it started coming out. All this means to me is that once used for the first time the machine will be filled with 0.5-1l of water. This is probably how all compressor dehumidifiers work and maybe nothing to worry about but will it last 12 years if it is filled with water all the time is my only concern.
Overall despite the cons, liking this machine for what it is doing and probably the best I could find for my purpose.
I will update if I have anything more to add.
I brought this device to try and counteract the problem of condensation in our new conservatory. I had tried continually wiping-down the windows and window-sills and thought about buying one of those Karcher battery-operated squegee devices. Then I thought about a small dehumidifier with silica-gel crystals but once I read a few Amazon reviews, I realised I needed something bigger! Going by the reviews, the Meaco machines got very positive feedback, so it was an easy choice. The macine is attractive, easy to use, and very effecient and overnight the tank was full and needed to be emptied, and we carried on like this for several days. We have indoor plants which partly contributes to the problem but now we just use the machine as and when required. The air feels cleaner and less heavy now and any sooty mould, previously on the plaster in some places has gone now. My only caveat is that it doesnt have a Timer as such only an incremental run-time input, so you could for example set-up to run for 4hrs only and it will then switch off. Apart from this a brilliant little machine that works fantastically and it fairly quiet. Highly recommended!
This is one of our best online buys of all time.
Once summer had finished, we’d have to take down all our roller blinds in the conservatory, and charge up the Karcher.
Although it’s double-glazed, it’s not up to modern day standards, and the flat roof is double-skinned polycarbonate, so condensation was an ongoing problem, which was a grinding chore every day. Mould used to appear in corners etc, and was a real drudge keeping it at bay.
Someone we know started talking about dehumidifiers they had, and this got us thinking. After doing a lot of research, we decided on this Meaco – we had considered cheaper ones, but decided this one was a larger capacity, and seemed a more capable machine.
It’s been on the go now for about 6 weeks, and it’s been all that we’d hope it would be. The blinds are back up, and it’s altogether much nicer out there now, not one bit of condensation and it feels nice and fresh.
We have the setting on 65 humidity, and that seems fine. It’s automatic, so just kicks in only when the humidity goes over that figure. It will run continuously, but we give a rest in the day, which seems fine. We empty it daily, and it’s surprising the amount of water it mops up.
We debated whether the price of it justified taking a chance on it, but I’m glad we did – if you are in a similar position, then don’t hesitate, it’s a super efficient bit of kit.
Really happy with the Meaco ABC 10LS dehumidifier. We have always had bad damp/black mould in our bedroom and have tried many ways to reduce or stop it without success.
Since we have had this dehumidifier running our problem has appeared to be gone. The cold damp patches on our walls are gone and we have noticed all the condensation that built up on our windows and gathered in small pools of water on the window seal are no longer an issue.
It’s not too big or heavy so does not look out of place and can be easily moved around the house. The water container just slides out when full and the dehumidifier stops when it is full so you know it is time to change it. The controls are very straightforward and easy to understand and it is very quite when running compared to other dehumidifiers I have had.
Can’t recommend this enough.
I liked everything about this product. First of all it does exactly what it claims to do. I purchased the product for a garden room which I have recently had built. There was significant moisture from the plaster walls drying out and the subsequent painting. I took the dehumidifier out of the box, read the instructions and within a few hours the humidity in the room was down from 87% to a recommended 55%. About a liter of water had been extracted from the atmosphere and the holding tank was easy to access and empty. The dehumidifier is easy to maneuver and looks good. I like the fact that once it has reached the set humidity it goes to standby and monitors and only switches back on again if it senses a rise in humidity. I have not had it long enough to assess if it is cheap to run but if it matches the advertised rate of just over 2p an hour that that is fine with me. Finally, I do not have anything to compare it with since it is my first humidifier, but I think it is super quiet, as advertised. I would recommend this product and I like it that much I am thinking about getting a second one for my conservatory. The price may seem a bit high at 160, however, I am a great advocate of “you get what you pay for”
This is much cheaper to run and much quieter than the Meaco DD8L dessicant I’ve had for several years. I have a smart meter and my daily electricity costs have plummeted despite maintaining the same humidity and emptying out the same amount of water each day. It’s very quiet. I cannot hear it at all at night on the low fan setting when it is in the hall. With these savings it will pay for itself in 4 months. I realize now that the dessicant types, which produce heat too, are only appropriate for places without heating or very damp places. If you have a centrally heated flat or house that only suffers from condensation and mild damp in some corners this is easily the right choice.
We have an 2 older Meaco dehumidifiers which are great but we decided we needed another as my Daughter just had a new baby and we gave her the machine we had in our bedroom to keep mould at bay and the windows dry .This dehumidifier has a more modern look and is very slightly quieter than our older models but you are never going to get a completely quiet dehumidifier .We have tried quite a few different brands of dehumidifier as our home is very well insulated which environmental health told us was why we where getting mould in the winter when windows could not be kept open and these Meaco machines have been by far the best .We keep the dehumidifier in our bedroom on the low setting overnight and in the morning the bucket is 3/4 full .We where having a lot of mould on our bathroom ceiling and my poor husband was getting very annoyed at having to either repaint or try to clean it of so we now have one of the ,Meaco machines inside the bathroom but plugged into a socket just outside the door and the mould has actually gone .We waisted a lot of time and money over the years trying different brands just to be disappointed with the amount of water they took in but I cannot recommend this brand enough .
I went for this because it stated it was energy efficient only 2.5p per hour also it doesn’t make noise. I yet to receive a bill so i can comment on the energy its using. However in terms of noise, it is quite noisy, it is the first dehumidifier ive had so i can compare it to anything else. It is however doing an amazing job i leave it in the hallway and everyone thinks its made a massive difference. Sometimes walking into my house its like walking into a sauna or steam room but this little machine has made a massive difference cleaner air and collects liters upon liters of water.
We have been using a desicant dehumidifier for the last few years (an ecoair dd122) that recently stopped working. Having being very impressed with our new meaco fan this summer, we decided to try one of their dehumidifiers.
After using it for over a week now, I can say that the meaco dehumidifier surpases the ecoair one in every single way. It is quieter, removes more water from the air, has better controls, is cheaper to run, everything really.
We run the dehumidifier overnight and position it near a clothes horse so that it blows the dry air towards the clothes. It is quiet enough that we can have it on the landing outside our bedroom and barely hear it, although we generally keep it downstairs. When we wake up in the morning, the clothes are dry, the windows don’t have any condensation and the dehumidifier tank is full. This means the house is nice and dry and we can avoid having any clothes drying during the day.
We have a 3 bedroom house and the dehumidifier is more than enough to handle this while still reducing our electricity usage by around 2kwh a day when compared to our previous ecoair dehumidifier. I really have nothing bad to say about it, very happy.
This is my 3rd Meaco. The first one DD8L only lasted two years (probably because I didn’t hoover the filter often enough which I now do whenever I get the hoover out) and I bought because it had library quiet mode. The second 10L was noisy and rattled so only used in the mornings – after putting up with that for 4 years, still working, I decided replace with ABC and what a difference. Much quieter, doesn’t rattle and having the low fan setting means I can have it on all night! It’s also good as it has a humidistat which you can set on the digital display to a desired level and this reads the humidity and when enough moisture has been sucked up it switches off and goes on again when it needs to. The DD8L did also switch off at various pointss but not really that effective with library quiet mode and the rattling 10L never switched off! So am very happy to have one that I can leave on, as it’s much quieter. I’ve not given 5 stars because the fan turning does have a bit of a rythmic vibration on the floor (I do have it on the carpet and have tried putting an extra rug under). It’s not massively disturbing and I guess there will never be a completely silent dehuidifier but this one is a great improvement and to not have the chore of sucking up condensation every morning with a Karcher is well worth it!
I bought this to combat condensation on our sash windows and to lower the humidity level in our one-bedroom flat which was causing damp walls during the winter months.
After some research I decided on Meaco as they have a great reputation for quality dehumidifiers. I was about to purchase the Meaco DD8L which is a *desiccant* dehumidifier but decided to wait a few more months for the release of this new machine. The DD8L (desiccant) is a very quiet machine (37db) that warms the air slightly as it runs (perfect for cold spaces – boats caravans etc) but they do cost a little more to run. *Compressor* dehumidifiers like this one (the Meaco ABC) are cheaper to run (just over 2p an hour). Up until recently, compressor dehumidifiers were quite noisy, so the desiccant machines were the more popular option for small properties. The Meaco ABC is a compressor but at just 35db it is the quietest dehumidifier available.. so it really is the best of both worlds.
The Meaco ABC is small and looks far more pleasing to the eye than any other dehumidifier I could find. It has a humidistat which regulates the humidity to your chosen level (ours is set to 50 or 45 when it’s really cold outside). Once it reaches this level it switches itself off and then regularly tests the air from time to time to detect when to switch itself back on to dehumidify again. The 2.6 L tank at the back is easy to empty, the machine switches itself off when the tank is full. There is also a continuous drainage outlet but you will need to find your own (standard gardening) hose for this. This has a laundry drying setting which runs the machine at the higher fan speed (40db) for six hours then switches off. If you’re buying specifically for clothes drying then you might look to a larger machine.
Within the first couple of hours the machine had extracted over a litre of water from the air. I can already feel the difference with the quality of the air in our flat and the walls have completely dried out. The big test will be this winter when the temperature drops outside, so I’ll update this review in a few months time. I will also update this review if I run into any problems. So far I’m very impressed.
Edit (December 2018)
This is an amazing little machine. There is now no damp at all, the flat feels much dryer and warmer and consequently uses less energy to heat. The floors have stopped creaking and I’ve noticed bread stays fresher for longer. On very cold days there is still a little condensation on the windows but this has been greatly reduced. I don’t believe it is possible to completely stop this in our flat with any dehumidifier.
I have the machine placed not too close to a radiator and in-between rooms with all doors left open as often as possible. It *easily* regulates the RH of our one bed flat. The machine switches itself off for an average of about 35% of each 24hrs. It’s very quiet for a dehumidifier (similar to a modern air-con machine). I would still prefer not to have it in the bedroom though (although I could get used to it easily enough). I never notice the sound during the day.
If you’re looking for a small, quiet, efficient dehumidifier.. this is the one for you.
