This is an effective dehumidifier, reducing humidity in my home from over 70 to around 55 in the first few days of use, being emptied daily. I would recommend using a separate humidistat/hygrometer to double check humidity level as I believe the reading on the dehumidifier is inaccurate. I have other devices (clock, thermometer) with humidistats which consistently show around 10% lower than the dehumidifier’s reading. In terms of noise, it seems quiet during the day and not really noticeable with other everyday noise going on, but I can’t sleep with the noise even on low fan mode. Despite this, I would definitely recommend this for reducing damp problems – my rooms felt drier, warmer and much more comfortable from the first day of use. It is also not particularly heavy but wheels would have significantly improved its manoeuvrability.
Used mostly for drying clothes, has a 6 hour preset timer which is very useful. Highly recommend
Does exactly as it says it does , really good at drying clothes, low noise level , really pleased with i
My flat was cold and dump. Since I got this humidifier my flat is warm and I am saving money on heating.
Bought the product as my toilet was really humid and was starting to have black mould. Initially I was a bit hesistant to purchase the Meaco due the price.
However, after buying a much cheaper brand only to find that it didn’t match up to my expectations, I took the plunge to purchase the Meaco Dehumidifier to compare results.
Needless to say that I returned the cheaper version and kept the Meaco. There are no new black mould growths in the bathroom. I set the dehumifier on timer if anyone else has a shower in the evening. It also has other features such as a drying mode if needed.
The noise level on the low setting is quite quiet but it is understandable that the noise increases as the level increases too.
I definitely would recommend this dehumidifier to anyone that needs one!
Bought this hoping it would be more powerful than a previous dehumidifier. It’s fantastic, can easily take litres out of the air in a couple of days. Easy to use, would recommend.
Effective at helping dry damp washing without a tumble dryer!
If you trust the display (humidity), then it does it job amazingly – in a short period of time.
I have used this dehumidifier twice so far as I only got it this week so I can only give the results so far.
I have two indoor clothes airers in a bedroom measuring 22.5M3 (I did the floor measurements and the floor to ceiling measurement and using an online calculator worked out the volume).
The central heating is set to 19 degrees celsius.
After going through the washing machine I put the bedding hung between the airers and switched the dehumidifier on and pressed the “Laundry” button and left it for 3 and a half hours.
After this time the bedding had mostly finished drying but still slightly damp but not much and I am sure that the dehumidifier could have helped finished things off if I had left it running for longer (it was getting late and I had to go to bed).
A pillow case, a king size fitted sheet and a king size quilt cover produced 1 and a quarter pints of water when I emptied the dehumidifier collection bin in to a Pyrex measuring jug.
(I would add that it took 9 hours for the bedding to air dry before I bought the dehumidifier).
I the did the same exercise for a regular washing machine load of clothes left to dry for 6 hours.
5x pairs of socks, 6 pairs of pants, 1x Pair of pyjamas, 1x swimming shorts, 1x t-shirt, 4x work shirts, 2x hand towels and 1x beach towel.
After 6 hours the dehumidifier will switch off automatically when in “Laundry” mode and most things were dry with to odd item still being slightly damp but not too bad.
The dehumidifier had collected 2 and a quarter pints of water.
I got this dehumidifier due to the fact that my 8 year old Bosch washer/dryer is now just a washer as the dryer no longer works and it is not cost effective to fix it (I had two engineers come out 3 times to try and fix it).
This dehumidifier is a better option and more cost effective to run and also saves time as before I could only wash and dry one load at at time and I am not waiting around for the washer/dryer to finish drying.
This dehumidifier may be more expensive that some other brands but it is more energy efficient and collects more water than others when comparing the specifications.
I would recommend.
We purchased the castors for the 10 ltr model but it is not easy to move on carpet. Obviously no doubt better on hard floors.
Certainly removes excess moisture from the rooms.
Not any thing we disliked it was used for keeping the moisturiser out, wet windows, in our extension on the back of the house it done everything it said on the box.
I regret waiting so long to buy it! Great dehumidifier. No more wet walls and windows. I can feel the difference. Highly recommended.
A relative with a damp problem, no longer has an excess of water vapour. It doesn’t cure the cause, but it has liberated the families health.
Bought this for my mum and dad’s bedroom as they get a lot of condensation on their windows. They are really happy with it and are also having a better nights sleep.
Easy to use I bought it to use to dry my laundry. Works great and has cut the cost of my tumble drier and ironing dow
I got this to counter mould in my home and damp in my attic and rooms where I dry clothing. This dehumidifier does a fantastic job so quickly.
We have been drying our washing in our conservatory which was causing a lot of condensation. The dehumidifier has far exceeded our expectation at clearing the condensation and the washing dries far more quickly. Very impressed.
No more wet weather worries with this dehumidifier dries my clothes a treat. Not given a rating to energy efficiency as at present I don’t know. Pleased with my purchase so fa
It started by taking about 2.6 L out of the air in my house every 6 hours. Now, after 5 months, it takes the same amount every 5-7 days so it’s doing it’s job well. I would say the RH of my home has come down by 10-15% to a comfortable 45-60%. As I have a good quality hand held hygrometer(Peaktech) which I have tested with the salt test a couple of times, it seems that the built in hygrometer on the Meaco reads 6-10% high. I also bought a cheap hygrometer as well, & that reads several % lower than the Peaktech, so hygrometers cannot be relied upon unless you test them with the salt test (see internet). I also plug this dehumidifier into a mains segment timer which switches it on and off every 3 hours or so, to give it a rest for 30-45 mins. It’s mainly off in the day & mainly on in the night. Despite what the instructions say, I dont think it should be left on 24/7 in case it burns out.
This was one of the best purchases i could make for our flat. We had serious black mould issue due to high levels of moisture, but looks like its under control now.
It wont remove the spots of mould – you will have to do it yourself – but it will definitely prevent the future spots from reappearing.
Another advantage of this dehumidifier is when you have to dry to your clothes indoors – Laundry Mode makes everything nearly dry in about 10 hours.
Still rather noisy to have it on during sleep time, but this one is supposed to be the quietest on the market, so other dehumidifiers are probably even worse.
12L is enough for a 2 bedroom flat.
Other thing to improve is maybe adding wheels to the base of it to add manoeuvrability, it is rather heavy for my wife to move.
But in general very pleased with it and it looks cool too.
I have had this product for about a week now so can offer my first thoughts!
I bought thid product as I live in a flat, where all activities like showering, cooking, hanging clothes etc all happen in the same space. With winter meaning I don’t want windows open all the time, I thought a dehumiidifer would be a good investment, whilst also helping keep the flat free of mould, condensation etc.
The amount of water this thing collects is unbelieable. For the first few days, it was almost collecting a full tank per day. I have set to 55% humitity which as others have said, seems to be the sweet spot. I have noticed the flat seems warmer, towels drier, and clothes don’t take as lon to dry. I am sure the combination of this, plus reducing the need to open windows on cold days will help with heating bills too. I went for the 12L model.
Overall a great investment for flat-dwellers and those that have a smaller space. The noise is noticable, but not overbearing. Just a soft fan like you would expect from a air-con unit.
Not sure if it will be useful in summer, but for winter it is great.
Used it in a north facing bedroom with much condensation over the winter. Removes many litres of water from the air during 6 hours on time per day. No return of mould as yet.
The dehumidifier is very quiet when on the minimum fan setting, dries the clothes well on laundry setting. Pulls amazing amount of water from the air and the house feels less damp as a consequence.
I would have given this product a five star but for four things:
1. The built in humidistat appears inaccurate and gives a very different reading to other humidistats I have tested it against, for example the Meaco reads 59% but three other humitistats tested close by in the same room read 49% to 50%.
2. The 12L model has no wheels and these have to be ordered and cost extra.
3. The 12L model has no drain pipe.
4. Not as quiet as suggested, my old 15 year old Amcor dehumidifier is about the same.
Regarding energy saving, the 160w rating does mean that you can dehumidify a room at a lower energy cost compared say to a 220w, but it appears that the moisture extraction rate is reduced accordingly, based on measurement of water extracted when swapping the Meaco with our Amcor dehumidifier in the same room.
Drying clothes indoors, steamy bathrooms, damp condensation around windows. No problem. We have a medium size house and immediate impression after one use is this is perfect. Clothes dried in no time, helpful piece of kit. Glad I read up on them, because there is a huge range..
Not too heavy to move, even when water tank is full (10l). Water tank (at back) Easy to empty. Turns itself off when full and red light stays on until you notice it! Easy to set a timer to leave on for a set period. Not too bulky. Good investment.
I was surprised just how small it is! I bought the 12l one as a replacement for a useless EcoAir 7l dessicant one.
Slightly disappointed the tank is small. Same size as my last.
Noise is acceptable, especially on low fan but it dehumidifys better on high fan. Can still watch TV but with volume up a bit. It sounds like a much quieter portable air con or a fridge whirring. With fan noise on top.
In the first 6hrs it removed half a tanks worth. My old one filled a tank once in a week and on full power 4hrs a day!
It’s slightly wobbly on my low pile carpet, shame it didn’t come already fitted with wheels as its quite heavy for me but I’m just using it in one room and opening all other doors.
I have a 750sqft 2 bed bungalow which suffers condensation and high humidity of 70% in winter. My old EcoAir one only got it down 5% in 8hrs.
This reduced it by 10% in 2hrs. The air started feeling fresher as well unlike the last one.
The huidity display is fairly accurate 1-2% out at times according to my testo hygrometer but still acceptable.
Good effectivity. Can be quieter and with wheels. But in total works really good
I bought this product mainly to dry laundry although I have a tumble dryer most clothes these days cannot be tumble dried. It does take longer to dry washing but far cheaper than running a drier.
Apart from that I do have quite bad condensation in winter especially in the bathroom so most useful for that too but the main reason for purchasing this model was the laundry facility. It’s quiet when running but a little heavy for moving about as not fitted with castors, all in all a great buy.
I can’t believe how much moisture this machine is sucking out of the air! It’s easy to set up, relatively light to move around with an easy to empty chamber. Silent mode for night time and not that noisy during the day either. Highly recommended!
We struggled with condensation and some mold on the ceiling in a couple of our upstairs rooms, we tried those little plastic water trap thingies to no avail.
Finally but the bullet and wow!
Not only has it sorted the condensation, there’s no black patches appearing on the ceiling but the biggest thing is the air quality in the house. Within an hour of it first going on it was niticeably easier to breathe! I’m asthmatic as are two of my daughters and it has been literally life changing for us.
I can’t believe we’ve lived in our house for so long without getting one.
Wish I had bought this years ago every house should have one. My house doesn’t have a damp problem but does occasionally suffer with small mould patches of condensation on the outside walls. It’s amazing how much water this machine can take out of the atmosphere two pints the first night and it’s down to two tablespoons the next. I now use this if I have to dry washing inside and don’t anticipated any more condensation mould. Worth every penny. On the downside it’s a bit heavy to lift as I got the 12ltr one which doesn’t come with castors but it switches off when the set moisturiser levels are reached so is energy efficient.
The quality of this dehumidifier appears to be good, well made and efficient. However, much is made of how quiet the dehumidifier is. But on the first night I found it makes a whistle, whining noise that gets right into my head when trying to sleep at night. I contacted Meaco and their reply is:
‘The high pitched/whistle sound you are hearing is common on R290 compressors.
‘The noise is most likely to be heard at lower temperatures and/or whilst the compressor is warming up (similar to a car on a cold winters morning). It will be easily heard if the unit is being run on the low fan speed, however it is difficult to hear whilst running on the higher fan speed. This is because the sound of the fan will cover it up.’
I have had the dehumidifier running for a week now and it seems to have settled down or I am getting use to the sound. If the sound does not bother you I would recommend this dehumidifier.
As a side note. The dehumidifier is made in China. I wish Amazon would add ‘place’ of manufacture in the product description.
Does an excellent job so pleased to have this dehumidifier. My windows are now clear from condensation and helps to dry out washing .Fan does make a little noise when on high setting but nothing to complain about . Have wanted one of these for ages and so glad I now have this Worth every penny
Very happy with the dehumidifier. I originally wanted to buy the Lakeland electric clothes dryer but decided to go for the dehumidifier instead. It dries my clothes within a day a I don’t have a damp smell in my house. I can set up the humidity on 55-60 and leave the machine on until the tub is full with water. I mostly dry the clothes indoor as the weather is bad just now. I had some mould in the room I was drying the clothes in but got it now under control. It’s a great buy it not only dries your clothes it also decreases the humidity and mould in your home. Definitely a winner for me!
i bought this as the house is old and in winter in particular there’s a real issue with condensation, and it has a drying option for clothes. a few weeks in, and having used it during the recent freezing period, I have not had any any condensation on windows. there’s also a noticeable improvement in the rooms, they feel much less humid and more comfortable, and less cold also.
i have moved it around various rooms to gauge how humid they are, it’s not the easiest thing to move – the handle at the back is fine, but it’s fairly heavy.
i’ve been leaving it running overnight with the doors open, and it collects a good amount of water which is easy to empty out (we’re using this for plant watering and topping up the toilet cisterns). so far very happy with it.
Does what it says on the tin. Easy to move about. Easy to follow instructions on the panel. Does turn itself off on occasions even though the container is not full. Maybe user error. I am a bit deaf so the noise is not an issue. My last dehumidifier ( taken by my son to his new house) made a loud beeb when the container is full. I use this for drying my laundry at night. This does not give any indication when it is needs emptying, it just stops and the light goes off. It does beeb when you take the container out to empty it. Would have been better if it beebed when it needs emptying. It could be just be me being deaf. So, would be great for non-deaf people.
Easy to use. Sucks moist air in through the filter at the back and blows dry air out the vent on top. Water tank slides out for emptying and must be clicked back in place properly or the machine won’t function. The filter pops off for easy cleaning, just get a hoover nozzle on it.
There are two fan settings, an adjustable humidistat, power button, full tank indicator and continuous laundry mode. Continuous laundry mode dried my bed linen in a few hours.
The only negative? The machine is quite heavy. I came close to dropping it when I repositioned it because it is heavy and there are no castors or handles on the 10 and 12 litre models.
I have been using this dehumidifier for a over a year now and happy with it. I bought it specifically to dry my laundry indoors, during the winter. In the summer I prefer to dry it in the open air on the balcony of my flat.
The reason why I give it 4 stars is that in spite of being described as silent, it certainly isn’t silent. It emits a low humming sound which unfortunately in my badly soundproof flat can still be somewhat heard by my neighbour, something I was hoping to avoid. I also wish it was made easier to manoeuvre, with a strong handle and wheels preferably.
However, other than that its done a great job. I dry my washing on the Drysoon 3-tier heated dryer (costing 6p an hour on electricity), I place a sheet or a thin blanket over it to trap the heat inside and put the dehumidifier on a stool right next to the dryer. With these combined powers I have a dry laundry after several hours for very little cost.
I bought this for my son as 8 have an older model which is great. The new one is quieter and energy efficient but it is a bit heavier than the old on. The digital control panel is a bit different the instructions on how to use were a bit difficult to follow. On the whole it’s a great product.
Bought this to reduce the amount of moisture inside the house due to the damp weather, damp clothes and other day to day causes. Unpacked the machine and let it do its business. After a couple of days, the 12l container was full and as advertised, the machine stopped automatically until emptied. We kept the machine running for a couple of days and things dried out nicely. Intend now only to use it when needed. A very efficient dehumidifier, runs pretty quietly and seems inexpensive to run.
Had a lot of condensation in our bedroom got rid on first use very good dehumidifie
Had this machine for 3 weeks now. Seems to do a great job, the mould that kept re-appearing in a damp corner of the room has stopped, and the whole room feels more comfortable to be in.
Its not quite as quiet as I’d hoped – too noisy for the bedroom but OK anywhere else. Also quite heavy to move around, but all in, a good machine. Recommended.
I used this dehumidifier to soak up moisture from my bathroom following a bad leak from the shower drainage. I sealed all vents to the bathroom, set it to continuous operation and closed the door. It was soaking up between one and two litres every day for some weeks, and got the room dry enough to refurbish. I thought it was a better bet than hiring a dehumidifier for the job, and more under my own control. In the future it will be useful to make the flat more comfortable in muggy weather – it is small enough to store in a cupboard. I can lift it, but only just – I’m 86.
Bought this as for years I’ve been buying disposable dehumidifiers and desperately wanted to stop adding to plastics. So glad I did, we do have a lot of condensation in our 2bedroom house, lounge, hall and one bedroom in particular, this has taken litres out in first few days, amazed by how much water it’s pulled out of air! It is about as noisy as a fan which doesn’t bother me, but I use it downstairs overnight and in bedroom during day, now rooms are dryer I won’t lug it up and down till weather gets colder, it is a bit heavy but manageable, am sure this will solve wet windows. Helps dry laundry on a clothes horse too! Highly recommend if you have damp walls and windows!
Been using meaco de humidifiers for 6yrs in our mould susceptible bungalow, and they work brilliantly! Have updated to this new abc version ( i have 3), and they are truly amazing, extremely efficient and now so quiet we have them literally 6feet awat from beds and they dont disturb sleeping at all!! Genuinely the best buy you could make if you have any condensation /mould issues. 10/10 from me.
This is quite loud so no good to use in the lounge when TV is on. It is heavy to move and has no wheels. I do have disabilities so normal folk wouldn’t struggle with moving it. It is very efficient and removes about 3 to 4 full containers a day. It has really helped with the damp problems in my house so I would highly recommend it, if you don’t mind a background noise.
It’s been only 1 week so I can’t tell how durable this dehumidifier is or how easy it is to clean from dust, but I can tell it’s pretty efficient and not too noisy. I’m living in a tiny house which is actually just one large room (converted garage) about 6.5 x 5 metres, plus kitchen area, only bathroom is separated, so I get all the damp from cooking and whatever else I’m doing in the house. I was wondering why I’m always coughing and sometimes have sore throat. After discovering green mould on my wooden furniture and getting rid of it, I immediately bought two digital hygrometers and this Meaco dehumidifier. Turned out my humidity level was almost 70%, particularly in one corner of the house with poorest air circulation. With this Meaco I was able to get it down to 50% in the first three days, but if I leave it off, the humidity will raise to 60-66% depending on where I place the hygrometer and measure it. It seems like the worst it is at the ground level. That’s probably why the floor next to me bed has warped a bit.
I’m a person with extremely light sleep who uses silicone ear plugs every single night because any sound wakes me up. I was able to sleep in the room with this dehumidifier running on low fan speed. I could still heard it but it’s a steady humming sound so you will adapt to it. Most people are not as sensitive to sound as I am, but if you are, you can try some ear plugs as well. I find pigeons on my roof in the morning much much more annoying than this dehumidifier fan. They always wake me up early.
The dehumidifier collected full tank of water in the first 10 hours or so. Second day just a little bit less. Right now I’m leaving it off as we have very hot weather so all my windows are open and dehumidifier warms up the air slightly. Even with my windows open, the humidity level is still around 60%, not sure why, but at least I see that I definitely need the dehumidifier.
I just wish it had 2 handles not just one in the back. It’s not super heavy, but still, you lift it with one hand and then you need to support the bottom with your other hand if you want to keep it in vertical position (which you always should).
We bought this dehumidifier primarily for a ground-floor room which often used to smell slightly musty, though no signs of damp were visible. We were amazed by how much water it extracted. The room now feels fresher and is in the recommended humidity range. The musty smell has gone. An enquiry to the customer services at the company was answered efficiently and courteously. Having never used a dehumidifier before, we didn’t know quite what to expect, but have been very impressed with the results. Wish we’d had bought one years ago!
I bought it couple months ago,
Its really good, i used to clean the dump in my room weekly and since I bought I cleaned the walls one or time only.
I like because it show the humidity, humidity in my room usually 70, by using this its will reduce to fourtish.
Its will turn off automatically when the tank is full, so i am not worrying about that.
The only issue I had was with the deleviry, its came later than what it suppose to be, I ordered the silver one but it was out of stock so they sent me the white which is okay because they call me to inform me that.
Its might be pricey but definetly worth it.
After trying many different products that promised to reduce damp, that never really worked, I decided to bite the bullet and invest in a dehumidifier. After all, if it worked, it had to be cheaper than buying litres of mould killer, and paint to redecorate.
I did a bit of research, and the reviews for the Meaco seemed positive. So I took the plunge and ordered one.
And I’m glad I did!
I hang washing up in the spare bedroom which sends the humidity sky high resulting in black mould. But since buying the Meaco the humidity is under control, and no mould! After hanging the washing on the clothes horse I set the unit running on the lowest setting. My clothes dry within a few hours and no more damp smell.
The unit is reasonably quiet. I leave it running during the day and off at night. However, if I had to run it at night I imagine it is quiet enough for me to sleep, but I appreciate everyone is different when it comes to sleep and noise.
The child-lock function is very handy as my 2 year old loves pressing buttons. I also like you can set a humidity target value which the unit regulates.
Is it more cost-effective than a tumble drier? I think so, but I’ve not had it long enough to compare electricity bills.
Would I recommend this product? Yes I would! I wish I had bought a dehumidifier years ago, and I am pleased with the Meaco product.
We’ve had this 3 months now. We were told the damp problem was due to condensation and to try one of these with more ventilation on the outside cold wall. It has greatly improved the damp in our extension but not totally eliminated it although in the depths of winter, we haven’t opened a window as often as we probably should. The noise is not too loud but annoying enough that we only put it on overnight plus it seems to pump out cold air and makes the room chilly. The electricity bill hasn’t increased much so it seems economical to run. The water tank has never been full after it has been running all night.
This is a great little dehumidifier. It’s the first electric one I’ve ever bought and it works super well. Took my very humid flat (75+) down to a consistent 60. It’s built in self-defrost feature means you don’t have to worry about it breaking itself if it gets too cold. The noise level is nice and it does only use up to 3p an hour. Manoeuvrability is a little tricky as it’s a bit heavy, but if you set it up somewhere central then you’re better off just leaving it on one place.
Now on to if you live in a cold area / property. If you live somewhere that isn’t going to be consistently 20c and above then you are better off getting what is called a Desiccant Dehumidifier. This model is a Refrigerant Dehumidifier and although it will work in lower temps, you really are better off getting the first option, as desiccant models are specifically built to work better in colder properties. My property is between 13-15c on average during the winter without the heating on and so it does struggle to get the humidity levels below 60 (which is fine with me tbh). It spends a lot of its time defrosting itself unless I have the heating on. I should have really gone for a desiccant dehumidifier but I honestly didn’t know the difference between the two when I bought this, so I thought I’d give potential buyers a heads up.
It’s still an amazing buy and I would recommend it, but you could probably get more bang for your buck if pick the correct type of dehumidifier for you!
This dehumidifier is compact and unobtrusive. It removes a considerable amount of water and has a washing feature to help dry clothes indoors which is effective. Water can be emptied easily.
It is quite heavy and has only one handle so can be difficult to move. Castors are available but have to be ordered separately and were out of stock when first I tried. They do work well when fitted.
My brother bought a dehumidifier at the same time and we found we had both bought the same one. I would recommend the Meacodry.
