Loved having this powerful PC – no more tower, but lot of power, speed, and room to do all that I need. Great alternative for my college students instead of a notebook or something that doesn’t have enough to do everything they want to do.
I needed to upgrade my old desktop with windows 10, which couldn’t be upgraded to Windows 11.
System is amazing, easy to install, connected to my 65 inch sky glass TV automatically.
Wireless keyboard and mouse no problems.
Took about 10/15 minutes to do all the windows upgrades.
The only noise is initial startup for about 3 seconds then silence, no overheating.
Very impressed with it.
Perfect for my tiny studio as I have no space for a large pc. It was easy to set up. I have it set up with two monitors, though I had to buy a USBC to hdmi adapter for the second monitor. Also using wireless mouse and keyboard I did a bit of research before settling on this. There are some good youtube videos that cover all the features. It’s quiet.
Customer service was helpful too. Not that there was any problem with the geekom, I hadn’t realised my monitors had a button on the back to wake them up. A great little pc if you’re tight on space and budget. Couldn’t be happier.
UPDATE! I contacted GEEKOM for support as to why my Mini IT8 was not running on my Samsung 4K Monitor. I have to admit, these guys and girls were on it in a flash sending me the settings to try but I had already visited these suggestions. After giving it another day of trying to figure it out I reported that the Mini PC was still not displaying to my 4K Monitor. I was then put in touch with Shirley from GEEKOM Support and she was absolutely brilliant from the minute I reported my issue to arranging a brand new unit to be sent to my home. I then immediatly connected it to my 4K Monitor and it work 100% first time out the box. Clearly there was a fault on the original IT8 Mini PC. I cannot fault the GEEKOM support team and their work ethic in wanted to get things sorted from the get go. I shall support GEEKOM because of these very principles. If you looking to buy a mini PC absolutely do not look any further. Well Done GEEKOM.
Regards
HAPPY CUSTOMER.
Either I have no idea what I’m doing, but I for my life cannot get this Geekom i5 8279U with 16G Ram. I have gone through the graphics settings and max resolution I can choose is 1920 x 1080 at 60Hz is my best option out of the Display port. NOT HAPPY! Rather disappointing TBH 🙁 I am waiting for support for some sort of help. But you should not need support plugging in an HDMI cable.
Bought as a replacement for my laptop which was creaking under the strain of what I was asking, I always have access to external monitors so don’t need the inbuilt screen, this does everything I ask of it and without any complaint. It’s super light and so easy to move around. Can’t see me buying another laptop any time soon.
I bought this to replace a 5 or 6-year-old high-spec gaming PC I used to create animation. I have absolutely no complaints with the new Geekom, although I have upgraded the RAM to 64gb (available from Amazon: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07ZLCVKPV ). These were really easy to install and would probably not be needed by most.
The launch speed of the PC is rapid and the operation is silent. I love the tiny size of this, although I have also had to add a four-port USB hub to get everything I need to be plugged in. This is to accommodate 2 external disks I have (backup and previous data) and I am running 2 monitors, a 4K monitor and an XP-pen drawing tablet. All of this runs at high speed with no lag or any other problems.
All in all, I am totally impressed with my Geekom mini PC.
Hi I liked the product initially but unfortunately it started heating up and I had to return it. Shirley the representative was very helpful and professional. Returning the product was so easy. Thanks to Shirley
Am impressed with the Geekom Mini PC IT11 small profile and amount of available ports on front/rear of unit, taking satisfaction that I could run duel monitors, keyboard and mouse from a single USB-C. Performance wise the Mini PC MT11 is very responsive operating Windows11 and quiet. Recently suffered a power failure which Geekom support (Shirley thank you) swiftly replaced. Fingers crossed future spec supports Windows 12 watch this space.
I purchased this product in November 2022, based on reviews. It wasn’t ‘cheap’ but the spec was good, so I took the plunge and got it.
Set it up in the first week of Dec 2022, and I must be honest I was well impressed. However, at the beginning of March, just 4 months afterwards, I started to hear strange noises – at first I thought it was racing bikers in the distance, as I live in a rural area, and we get a lot of speeding bikers in the area. But the noises I heard were at strange times of the day…. Further investigation showed the noises were coming from the Mini PC.
So I contacted Geekom via their website, as it was the only way at first, expressing my concerns. They offered to replace the unit, which I accepted…. They gave me instructions regarding its return, which I followed to the letter, and promised to refund the 45 plus for the postage, they stated that providing them with proof of postage & a copy of the shipping label would ensure the replacement would e sent out within 2 days.
This never happened – I was asked for all the documents, including the one which showed the item had arrived and signed for at the address they gave me. To cut a very long story short, I received many, many requests for the documents I had sent many times!
I was getting worried – would I ever get back the 640 back? Luckily Karen He from HQ got involved, and after her intervention things started to get going – I was offered a replacement, but with half the RAM and SSD capacity of the model I returned! This of course I turned down and asked for a full refund, there were further issues, but eventually Karen got them sorted out. What should have taken 2 days turned out to be 2 weeks of constant daily emails.
The only reason I have given 4 stars is because of Karen He customer service, otherwise it would have been 1 star for the stressful experience, by the way I involved Amazon when I was getting financially concerned, and they were useless. It goes without saying that I would never buy or deal with Geekom again, based on my experience.
Solid build quality, nice finish. Very small, compact with lots of ports. It also has an IR sensor so theoretically ehome remote capable – not tried yet.
W11 preinstalled, once configured and updated it’s ready to go. Very fast!! But not suitable for high end gaming. (Asphalt 9 still runs smoothly.)
I added my own ssd drive to it as well.
Perfect for office, family pc, or even as a home theater pc. Plays/streams 4k videos nicely. I use it for audio/video editing, Photoshop, office work etc.
Due to compact size the cpu temp is always above 40-45 Celsius, even if idle. Under low load or when idle the fan is very quiet, nearly silent. I wouldn’t tell if the device is on without looking at the led button. You can watch 4k movies at night without the fan disturbing.
Under load the cpu temp can rise above 65-70 Celsius and the fan is annoyingly noisy. The solution is to disable turbo boost from the Bios or from Power mgt: with this the cpu will not overclock and not overheat.. so the fan remains always silent. The system remains still usable and very fast, you cannot really notice any performance difference with everyday usage.
Generally I am very happy with it, esp. with the performance and connectivity options. Oh, and Ubuntu runs also perfectly on it 🙂
I can highly recommend it.
Update:
If you connect this to a smart TV via hdmi output, it will break the CEC control and ARC feature on the TV. In my case it’s a Samsung 4k TV. This means, if you have other devices connected to the TV (AV-Receiver, sky box, fire tv etc) the unified remote control and audio return channel feature will stop working. This is because the MiniPC’s hdmi port does not support CEC and it scrambles the signal. The same issue can occur when connecting the minipc directly to an AVR via hdmi.
There are 2 solutions for this problem:
1. Use a small cec-less hdmi male-female adapter on either end of the hdmi cable (between minipc and TV). This basically stops the cec signal.
2. Use another port to connect the minipc with the TV (with an adapter). i.e. mini display port to hdmi, or usb-c to hdmi. The picture quality is the same, but these ports do not have CEC control. Although you might get different refresh rates and hdr controls, depending on the cables/adapters used. Buy good quality cables supporting high resulutions and refresh rates!
No CEC troubles when connecting to a normal pc monitor (via hdmi).
I am not a gamer. As an older senior citizen and former businessman, this was my thirtieth computer purchase. The first word that comes to mind is, WOW! The fact that this sits in the palm of my hand is amazing. Windows 11 Pro, 16 gigs of ram and a very fast hard drive is what I was looking for. Set up was shockingly easy. I attached my USB controlled wireless keyboard and mouse and then my monitor via the available HDMI. Microsoft wanted to take control of managing my PC via their defaults. You do get the opportunity to set up a local account, which is what I prefer and did.
Next, I connected both my Epson eco tank printer and scansnap scanner both via wifi, fast and without issue. I then downloaded Libre Office 7.5 again, without issue and put it through paces. Lastly, I installed my programs, data, pictures and videos.
This is the fastest computer I have owned and the quietest computer I have owned. Needless to say, the tiny box is a welcome change to the desktop “box” that it replaced. I use a high capacity SD card which I simply leave in the port to handle several sessions (rotation) of back-up.
Having kids in their fifties and adult grand kids, I realize there are much more powerful gaming options, they are simply not my thing. Having said that, this is far more computer than most people will need and appears to be constructed very well.
I will say, that the one omission in packaging was the absence of the advertised storage bag. I mention it simply because it happened. If I wanted to store, or move the nit, I would use the well cushioned box that it comes in.
In closing, I highly recommend this product!
I purchased this to use as a PC to run my lighting console software. What can I say, it’s such a good size and really lightweight for the power it provides. It has so far proven to be robust as it travels around the world with me. I am sure that for most people as a day to day PC it would be perfect and could also be used for creative software such as Adobe Photoshop or similar.
very easy to set up and use, just needed updating
bought it for my 80 year old father in law who was struggling to see anything on his old laptop
connected it to the 43 inch 4k tv in the dining room with a wireless key board and mouse
and mounted the mini pc on the wall behind the tv, out of the way
and he has no problems seeing everything / using it, sitting at the dining table
I ordered this PC to replace an ailing desktop. It runs 2 monitors (1 x 4K, 1 x 8K) and occasionally a third, via USB-C, for checking how video will look on a TV. It happily works tirelessly as a photo/video processing and editing machine. My old machine used to struggle sometimes, but this one just eats the work, and it’s very nearly silent.
An added bonus is that it’s so small, I have now attached it to the back of my monitor stand, and cleared my desk!
GEEKOM Mini PC, Mini IT8 Mini Desktop PC Intel Core i5-8279U, Windows 11 Pro Mini Computer.
To start with, my old Dell computer was ancient and technology has moved on. I had never heard of mini computers and the fact that I have always had full size desktops and had now bought a positive reviewed mini PC was a great shock. How could such a small tiny box really work I pondered? Well it does. It takes next to no space up so those tight for space will love this. It would also be so easy to move around. It has a solid state silent drive. For me I have now upgraded to Windows 11 from 10. To be honest I can find no fault at all. Set up was a breeze and I am not technically minded. I use it for email and Word, and Internet searching that is fine. Indeed this small machine has a built in wifi that my old machine did not and kept dropping out. Now I have a constant connection that is great. So I have no negatives. I am not likely to play games or if I did it would be old generation games and not current or recent games that would need a more high end graphics card. This model I think would cope with basic games just fine but you would need to spend more on a higher spec for top notch gaming. However payed I think 367, what can I say! A bargain and I am well chuffed. I had never heard of GEEKOM but seeing good reviews and my so far experience I can only say I am pleased and would recommend them.
All going fine, but Wake On Lan (WOL) did not work till I updated the drivers and changed the bios settings (found in Chipset -> PCH-IO Configuration).
WoWLAN (Wake On WLAN) worked straight out the box.
You can automatically update some of the drivers using the Intel Driver & Support Assistant (Intel DSA), but this will not update all the drivers (eg ethernet). The rest of the drivers can be found on the GEEKOM website.
I tried a PC with an AMD Ryzen 5 CPU but a third of the video frames were dropped when playing 4K@60 MP4 videos (downloaded from YouTube) with VLC. This Intel PC plays such files without an issue, with hardly any video frames dropped.
Looks to be a good PC. Just need to remember to update the drivers and check the BIOS settings.
I received this just before Christmas and was delighted with the product packaging and nice velvet carrying case it came with. I’m very impressed with this little Geekom PC, which is made for portability but also comes with a VESA mount that attaches to a free-standing monitor to save desk space if portability isn’t an important consideration.
The unit performs very well. It does get warm but not hot, and it is well made to evacuate the heat effciently.
I installed MX Linux on it and had some difficulty with the sound. Geekom advertises the product as compatible with Linux, so I contacted support for suggestions about sound configuration / drivers. I did get replies to my questions quickly, but no useful information was provided. This is the only reason I didn’t rate the product with 5 stars.
As it turns out, the sound problem was more likely OMF (operator malfunction)! I can’t be 100% certain, but I highly suspect the only issue is with the default sound settings of MX Linux. The configuration tab of the audio mixer isn’t visible due to the small size of its’ window. Expanding that with the tiny > button reveals the default sound “card” which was an HDMI channel not the analog output I was using. Once that was set to correct configuration and the “device option” tab set correctly sound worked!
I can’t confirm 100%, b/c in my efforts to find the problem I installed new drivers from gitbub snd_intel, so that might have been part of the solution, but I actually think that wasn’t necessary.
I’ve been using my GEEKOM Mini PC (Mini IT8) for the past few weeks and I absolutely love it!
It’s discreate, and saves up a lot of desk space. More importantly, it comes with a VESA mount adapter allowing you to mount it on the back of your monitor for even more desk space! I chose to leave mine out, in visible view, just to show it off a bit because I love the cute design.
It’s also very quiet. Even when I’m multi-tasking, using all the cores, and the fan kicks in, I can barely hear it. Compared to similar desktops, this mini pc is hardly audible.
It’s quick! Startup time takes just a few seconds from a complete off state to entering the desktop. I use a lot of MS Office, and Adobe products (Photoshop, Premiere, etc) and I’m quite impressed by the load times, and snappy operation. I have the i5-8279U version so I was a bit worried before purchasing it, but again I was surprised with the speed. The 16GM RAM and SSD probably does help, so I would recommend tacking that on as well.
I’m content with the port options, although it would have been nice to have the older display port option as you might need to purchase a display port USB-C adapter if your monitor doesn’t have that option like mine.
I have not used this for gaming, so unfortunately I can’t review this if you’re intending to use this to play games, but perhaps I’ll write an update to this review after I try some (I mainly use this mini PC for work at the office).
Overall, I believe for the price you can’t go wrong and I highly recommend the MINI IT8. If you’re just using it as a video player/movie server, or a replacement work desktop, you will be happy!
P.S. It is very portable, and even includes a nice carrying bag!
I bought this mini pc in august and have been very pleased with it, unfortunately, it developed a fault in December and that’s where the pleasure ends. I sent an email to Geekompc support on January 1st and got an out-of-office reply saying someone would get back to me on the 3rd, no one did. I have sent two further emails and a message on the webpage with no response. The webpage has a chat option but the chat icon to click on does not exist. The ‘official UK store’ is in Pakistan with no email or phone number and only a postal address in the UK. I don’t know if I will ever get support but if you want one of these beware. Maybe better to get something from a UK supplier.
UPDATE
I did get a reply on the 11th of January and the support I needed, but you may have to persevere as you may get an out of office reply and have to wait.
FURTHER UPDATE
I find Geekom support are improving and communication is very good at the moment, thank you Shirley.
As this mini pc is excellent value, has a specification equal to the competition and hasn’t missed a beat since I have had it, I am upgrading my review to 4 stars. The problem I had was with the power adapter and not the IT8.
