I am by no means an expert in night vision equipment, so take my review as one of an amateur toying with new equipment.
I bought these goggles as they are the best value head strapped night vision goggles you can buy on Amazon. They seem to work great in the dark and have a good battery life. I’ve tried them in completely black rooms and I can see just fine.
The biggest problem with them is that the field of view is completely unnatural, you don’t have a good view of your surroundings. It’s the equivalent of taking your natural view and slicing half of it off .. you don’t know where things are or where your legs and feet are.
I followed the advice of a Youtube reviewer and stuck a fisheye lens .. meant for camera phones .. on to the front of the main lens. Voila!! the problem is solved. The lens I bought cost me 20 quid so that takes the total cost up to 170 .. but it’s a massive upgrade.
I can’t comment on whether this is a comparatively good set of night vision goggles, all I can say is that it does work for me and the price seems competitive.
Let’s start off by getting this over with first. These ARE night vision goggles and no they are NOT high end.
Okay, with that over with let’s break this down. Some people don’t realize that there are many different types of NVG’s out there. Unlike the classic image intensifier style these are digital night vision. The difference? Vacuum tubes are swapped for a low Lux camera. This makes it cheaper and easier to produce. Please understand that if you want the “classic” goggles expect to pay in the thousands vs the $200 I snagged these for.
A few things on function, these are great for the price point. Only thing I wish was improved on would be a wider angle for the lenses. View is very limited with these and makes it slightly difficult to move in close quarters. Nevertheless these are still very comfortable to wear and work very well. No you are not going to see great detail at extreme distance but are still a great device. Also note that with this price point the two IR lights are slightly in the visible spectrum. So in operation you will see two glowing red eyes piercing the dark abyss. This may be a deal breaker for some, but I’m okay with striking fear into the hearts of my enemies as a shadowy demon emerges from the dark.
In all I am extremely happy with this buy, and despite some minor flaws these will be a great addition to my airsoft gear, and great for general entertainment on a long work night.
I bought this for my nephew, an Eagle Scout. He says they are the best. “Picture quality is amazing.”
Das Bild ist klar und die Nachtsicht ist auf einen Blick klar.
The Nightfox Swift Night Vision Goggles work better then expected, even my granddaughter had fun using them. The clarity and visibility is of good quality. I could see exceptionally well in the darkest of areas. My next camping trip will be better than my last.
I was trying to avoid buying a $500 scope for my $100 air rifle and this did not work. This is actually a monocle that is centered between your eyes and displayed on a screen. Thus, you cannot shoulder your air rifle and then line up the camera lens on your sites because your neck would need to be a lot longer and more flexible than it is. It is possible for you to put the butt of the gun on your chin and line up the sites but that has its own problems: 1) you have no stability to line up a shot and 2) the IR lights on either side of the lens reflect off the back iron site and barrel so much that you can’t see the front bead.
Perhaps you could try putting it on a tripod and mounting a scope such that the lens is right up against the scope, thus blocking the glare of the IR… but that isn’t going to work very well for me since all my targets are inside 10 yards and don’t stand still long enough for me to shift around that much.
Other than that, it does allow you to see in the dark fairly well up to the advertised 75 yards. I knocked it down 1 star because the eye shield is shaped very poorly and a lot of weight winds up pressing down on the bridge of your nose even when attached to the head strap.
I had an idea of getting night vision goggles to help me at night. It seemed like a fun idea but some of these night vision goggles were too expensive for my taste until I found this one. Fair price and works really well. It’s so easy to use and I really enjoy using it. Can’t wait to go camping with it.
Pretty much as advertised. I can see in pitch black room well enough. Focus is a bit grainy.
I bought this to see were the mice were coming into my building. Due to time restraints, I have yet to use it for this task. I am confedent It will work for my need as soon as I have the time to put in the watch.
Remember this is a Infrared and requires the infrared lights on the front of the goggles. Anything you can see in the dark, can see your two floating red “eyes” as well. Kinda freaked me out the first time I let my friend use them and he turned around and looked at me in total darkness zooming his head in and out while making scooby-do noices, (LOL).
For its price point these goggles are a great bit of kit. Takes a bit of getting used to if you are using them to walk around but once you do they are a great tool. Recommend A+
Decent “economy” night vision goggles. Good set of controls. This is a gen 1 device so don’t expect miracles. It needs an infrared light source to see. There is a built-in IR light which can be adjusted for intensity, or shut off if you have a secondary IR source.
It comes with a headband mount or you can use a GoPro mount.
The main “negative” is the fairly narrow field of view. Also while it can focus the objective lens there is no way to adjust the viewing screen .. may be a problem with eyeglass wearers.
For the price / performance I am very happy with it.
Bought these as a Christmas present, verdict was that they were fantastic and one of the best presents ever!
They work as advertised.
Very good image detail with ability to zoom and increase brightness with ease.
Easy to use out of the box.
The battery came with a charge.
They can also be worn with glasses.
I wear glasses that measure approx 5.25″ wide and 1.375″ tall and with some hand fitting with the soft visor material I can adjust them to the point where the image can be brought into focus with little discomfort walking around.
The head straps adjust to offer a secure and stable fit.
Ok, you want functional 1x night vision, but you can’t afford $3000+ for legit gen 3 gear. In my view, this unit is the lowest cost functional night vision unit that can passably be used for actual night shooting. This is why I gave the product 5 stars. However, there ARE pros and cons, and there are a few additional items you’ll need to make the headset really function the way you want it to. Lastly I’ll cover why I chose this model plus accessories instead of the Cape which theoretically functions similarly without the extra accessories.
Pros:
1 – 1x: let’s be real, this is why you’re considering this product. This and the sionyx aurora line are the only digital night vision products available that offer this utterly essential feature
2 – Simple, intuitive interface: any 12 year old could figure out how to use the thing in 5 minutes
3 – Lightweight and small: IIRC approx 12 oz for the unit itself, and it is relatively small in volume
Cons:
1 – Requires IR illumination: it’s digital night vision, and any digital night vision will require IR illumination to function well. If the other side has no night vision, this doesn’t matter. If they do, then your IR flashlight will identify your location immediately
2 – Built-in IR is visible: built in IR is not terribly powerful, and also visible. When the built-in IR is on, you look like a sci fi time warrior. It’s not terribly bright, but it will reveal your location to even the naked eye if someone is paying attention.
3 – Small field of view: I don’t know the exact angle, but you’re basically getting one eye field of view, so you lose a lot of peripheral vision and all depth perception.
These may seem like important cons and they are, but you can greatly increase the effectiveness of this night vision for tactical use by adding these accessories to your kit:
This helmet mount: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07K561GGK?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
This adapter set:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01IQPD9DU?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
This IR flashlight:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B089NK3D2W?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
And this flashlight mount:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075DBKN7C?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Finally, and most importantly, this 120 degree wide view mobile phone lens: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B073PZX14K?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
The helmet mount and adapters will allow you to attach the unit to your bump or ballistic helmet, and set it to land *exactly* where you want it, directly in front of your eyes.
The IR flashlight is at an ~940nm, so in the invisible range, giving off only the faintest glow that you can only see up close. The faint glow is actually kinda nice because it shows whether the light is on without the night vision activated. This IR flashlight is far superior to the one built into the swift. And with digital night vision, IR is everything. You see farther and more clearly with a better IR flashlight on the very same unit. The mount is just one cheap option that allows you to attach the flashlight to your typical bump or ballistic helmet.
Finally, the 120 degree wide angle lens. When you (very carefully!) hot glue or permanent glue this lens to the front of the swift lens, it opens up your field of view dramatically. The one from the set I recommend has minimal distortion. Things look pretty normal and it isn’t disorienting at all. You just need to ensure that you set it exactly center on the swift lens. I’ll admit this was a bit scary because I’m sure that would mess with the warranty. But it widened the field of view significantly and in doing so legitimately doubled the effectiveness of the unit. Before, walking around with just the headset was difficult. Now, with the lens, it’s only a little difficult.
I realize none of this sounds like an enthusiastic testimonial. But it actually is. This setup has problems. But it IS functional night vision. And everything together costs under $300 on the worst day on Amazon. Which, compared to approx $700-800 for an aurora and mounts, or $3,000+ for gen 3 night vision (before even buying mounts), IS THE BEST, MOST AFFORDABLE TACTICAL NIGHT VISION SETUP AVAILABLE at the present moment I write this in December 2021. (If you’re reading this in 2025, better options probably exist now.)
Finally — why *I* chose this over the cape.
1 – this has better rubber around the eyes, allowing the unit to rest comfortably on the face and block both outside light from coming in, and from the backlight of the night vision itself from shining out and revealing my location.
2 – lightweight
3 – don’t need camera or video, so I prefer the simplified interface
Reasons why YOU might want the cape, however:
1 – one piece that works by itself without giving away location. No essential need for the extra IR flashlight, though the built in flashlight isn’t nearly as good as the one suggested above.
2 – runs on batteries, so you can change them out all night long if you need them all night long
3 – it’s typically ~25% cheaper than the swift
I think that about covers it. Hope this helps you save some money and headache from messing with unusable gear. Cheers!
It’s good value and will prove useful in the forest with the dogs – initial testing is positive.
Since Nightfox read these reviews there are several things that would make this a more usable product.
1. The plastic arm (aka “head mount accessory”) could be adjustable/replaced with one 10mm longer to enable those of us with glasses to use the device comfortably. Currently its not suitable for people wearing glasses but this could be fixed very simply with a 3D printed/moulded optional component.
2. If Nightfox were to redesign 1 above then 2 things: i) put a mount on it for one of the long range IR torches as an optional extra and; ii) the leather pad at the back of the head strap could also facilitate a holder for an optional powerbank – this would be helpful in shifting the centre of gravity and, with 2 x usb connectors, be extra power for the torch and goggles.
For the money?! Perfect. Got some really good features: IR 0, head-mount, backlight etc. Lov em
Can see clearly in pitch black and the battery life seems good.
With forested property, miles away from electrical lines & city lights, a night can become pitch black under the trees. You literally can’t see your own hand if you put it in front of your face. After powering the goggles up I tried it in several different environments around my home. I could see clearly in a closet with the door shut. I walked around the block and definitely saw everything in very good detail. I wear glasses which doesn’t allow you to fully mold the unit to your eyes & nose. Even being severely nearsighted the goggles compensated for it @ 1x the magnification. @ 2x the view becomes blurry and I won’t find it useful. Depth perception can be a little disorienting until your mind & eyes adjust. My only concern is the housing seems a little too light but only time will tell if it’s durable. For this price range I’m good with what I got for my money. I’ve gained a tactical & safety advantage that’ll pay for itself.
My son loves this we used them to see the yard last night .
I use for airsoft only, tried the classic single lens to helmet which looks great but didn’t work well, son had a scope mounted one which worked to about 10 ft… mate had this and shot everyone. These work so well for the money. Look no further, unless you want to pay big bucks
Mounted to a helmet with 940nm illuminator will allow you to move around undetected to the naked eyes.. The 850nm illuminator that it comes with is visible to the naked eye unless you cover with a IR filter.. Completely able to navigate through the woods well balanced in your walk once you get the hang of it alot like VR goggles…
It’s a pretty cool NVG, I only played around with it for a few hours so here’s what I can tell you
Pro:
– It works pretty nice, you can see in the dark with IR lights. It has its own IR light source to see in the dark, it has a Zero IR mode so it can receive IR light and not expose your position as there are noticeable “Red eyes” in the darkness(I also purchased the IR flashlight from Night fox for testing and it’s pretty good with discreet light source).
– it has a color mode to see in regular light, and unlike some NVG you can safely use it in daylight without overexposing your lens and rendering your NVG useless.
– Backlight for the screen can be turned low or high for visibility.
– It’s relatively small which is good.
– Relatively lightweight, it’s not too heavy in the hands or on the head but you can feel it after a while.
– (airsoft) Rechargeable battery, much better in my opinion AND you can plug a cable in AFTER you turn it on to keep it working while charging(unlike another review I saw where they said you can’t do it because they plugged it in BEFORE turning on).
– (airsoft) It can be mounted on GoPro mounts to wear on your helmet for night time games.
– 1x view, which is nice so that you don’t lose more of your peripheral vision when walking around.
Con:
– No mounts for GoPro, you have to find your own parts to mount it on a helmet, not a deal breaker.
– Nose ridge is bad, it doesn’t fit naturally on my face, Nightfox should consider maybe a few rubber options. But not a big deal breaker unless you’re wearing it up against your face.
– The 7 levels of IR light setting start becoming monotonous after 3-4 and there’s no noticable difference beyond those levels.
– Peripheral vision like most NVG is not too great, you have a small window to see in the dark.
– (airsoft) If installed on helmet, you still would want counterweights because the gopro mounts will put more weight in the front.
– The resolution is not great, but not terrible to use. A little disappointed considering the smartphone technology we have now with the screen resolution. Could definitely be improved.
– You will get motion blur due to it being digital, unavoidable.
– focus dial is loose, it feels like this part has the least quality control.
– (airsoft) It doesn’t have the recording feature of their Cape NVG which is disappointing.
– Mine has some scratches on the IR lights lens but doesn’t affect IR lights.
– Digital zoom makes no sense, it doesn’t enhance the image it just makes it bigger which doesn’t help and it makes it more difficult to navigate as your tunnel vision.
– (airsoft) I’m concerned about the camera lens getting busted by a BB.
Overall, it’s a pretty sweet NVG on a budget, I am having fun with it. I will need to take it out to a game to test its actual effectiveness, but I hope my first impressions are a good reference point with this product.
Ordered two of these for my boys. One did not work when i opened it, customer service sent me another before receiving the defective one!! The new one works as it should! Customer service was best I’ve experienced!
Its great for airsoft, you can attach it to a tactical helmet with a go pro mount and can be turned on and off reasonably quick. If you use ir 7 you can see everything you need to if airsofting at night, fov isn’t amazing but for its price its great, it takes some time to get used to walking around with it but thats the same for all nvgs, you can also use a red dot sight while using the night vision if you put it on ir 0 with a IR flashlight, if you use the goggle mounted ir illumination then the glare on the rifle is too bad to aim and you would need to use a laser .
Hopefully you will also love these for airsoft if your buying for this purpose
Good enough low quality DNVG. Adding a additional IR light improves the viewing area. I purchased extra things to allow helmet mounting.
Man these things are awesome, work better than expected with a much bigger line of site than anticipated. For the money you spend, these really can’t be beat, I’m blown away.
For the price it’s really good. Military NVG cost $1K+
This device just surpass everything u can get here in south america for even higher prices. Here everything related to night vision is so overpriced that you just stick to normal flashlights.
It just works as advertised; easy to use, light yet well constructed. If anything the mount could be full metal and not plastic but I can make a spare one from aluminium. For me, the most important part (the night vision device itself) is exactly what I was asking for.
Would recommend it to my friends.
Perfect for up close jight vision. The image is crisp and clear in complete darkness. The options to change the IR level is very useful when going from an indoor setting to an outdoor setting. Price point ($179 when writing this) is perfect. There are not many options for immediate range night vision (there’s no fixed zoom like binoculars) and this perfectly fulfills that niche. The eye ring is comfortable and the head strap works perfectly. No case or cover is provided but I wish it were. The lenses on the front are almost flush with the plastic and could get scratched if dropped. I have a papertowell rubber banded over the lenses when not in use. The box came clean and well made. Overall great product.
Received quickly and opened it up tonight. Very impressed! The instructions were clear and attaching the headband took 20 seconds. Settings were easy to manipulate although it took some practice finding the focus wheel underneath the unit whereas the other controls are on top. Headband worked well. I was really impressed with how bright it was even on IR1 setting. My son loved looking through it as well and it didn’t seem to be too large for him to use either (age 7). Tried wearing my glasses with it, and although it took some adjusting, it fit around my frames. Excellent buy! Tomorrow I’ll charge it up and put it in one of the Faraday cages for safe keeping between uses.
Best for the price. The 1×1 sight is very helpful and the option to turn off the IR lights is a great feature if you are using a secondary light source. Very simple to use.
They really work. Honestly bought these as a gag gift for my dad and when I tried them on, they worked flawlessly. I had the lights turned all off at night and could see the room clearly, could even make out the names of books of the book shelf.
As long as you have reasonable expectations you won’t be disappointed (ie: you can’t get military-grade night vision for 200$). This set works well for the cost and the customer service is great if you have any issues, they worked with me even past the Amazon return window (fully replacing a pair I messed up). These are cool and the customer service is fantastic soo… risk free if you don’t like em.
his is great. it is so worth the price. these things are easy to use, compact, with a head strap, and multiple settings.
They work. But moving around in an unfamiliar place would be challenging. I bought an external ir light to illuminate instead of using the on board ir lights. Works with a weapon mounted ir laser. It’ll get the job done, but it ain’t no pvs/14.
Cool if you wanna see stuff at night. It works. Headstrap works ok. I like it for the price. Tricky to walk around with it though because no peripheral vision. Picks up my infrared laser nicely.
Works good only thing slightly different than what I expected it’s like looking 6 inches in front of you which throws you off a little and the part that touches your face the shape is off and it feels kinda funny but you can nottt beat it comparitavely anywhere in the same price range so definitely 5 star for what I was going for, I hooked an IR light to my gun and it works great you do need extra GoPro mounts if you want to hook these to a helmet! Ir ease of use vision sturdiness all 6 star for the price
Like the head strap, but is A bit big on the face
Better than the ones I used in the military and at a fraction of the price. Perfect for entry level/budget survivalis
If you’re a poor then this should do the trick as long as you invest in an extension arm. Definitely get an extra IR flashlight if you want it for longer distances but for CQB it’s pretty solid. Might need to tweak some things but other than that it works!
These are the real deal. Hands down the BEST night vision goggles for the money. From about 20 ft away they’re not noticeable. Zoom is great. Super clear picture.
Walking out back in the woods where it was pitch black was no problem with the goggles.
Holy crap these actually work! By far the best cheapest NVG I have found online.
The face form rubber doesn’t fit my nose very well but maybe that’s just my stupid nose .
Easy to use, easy to set the heads trap.
Pros… very reasonably priced, easy setup and operation, built in infrared light, comes with a head harness, no batteries required, seems to be durable
Cons… head harness is a bit loose and causes the goggles to slide down. when infrared illumination is on, the goggles glow red in front.
All in all, this is a pretty good nvg. I was out of town when it was delivered when my wife set it up and used it and she knows nothing about night vision devices.
Good value for money, only problem is fov is very narrow and you feel like your going cross-eyed when putting them on. And there is a very slight digital delay, which isn’t very noticeable but if you get motion sickness easy it won’t be pleasant. Great clear night vision .
I love it great night vision can see everything might buy another one
works as advertised i tested it at night in the backyard and my house and could see near perfectly or as well as you can with a device strapped to your head.
Was okay but having to manually focus was something that should of been built in for the price. The distance in seeing was about correct. Just a bit to much work and expecting it to be more of a clear look. In the dark you can definitely see them, the IR lights were bright red in the dark night. So no stealth if needed to be invisible in the night. Not bad if your just using them for camping and fun. The head gear didn’t fit very well either when pulling them down.
I can see in total darkness and that’s what I wanted. I use it to spot rats and mongoose out to 50′. Clarity is pretty decent. It feels very sturdy, good quality materials. For the price it’s well worth the money.
Excellent night vision for the price. I’ve only had experience with the standard issue Pvs-14 mono night vision so That’s the standard that I’m going off of.
Pros-
effective night vision
Great bang for buck(night vision is typically 1.5k-10k for low to mid tier)
Can be used to navigate in dark(takes some getting used to)
Can be attached to a helmet with a GoPro mount
The built in illuminators work as intended
Cons
Cannot switch out batteries you have to hook it up to charger
It takes up both eyes so you can’t keep one eye adjusted to low light
The clarity is not the best
The built in IR illuminators drain the battery very quickly
Depth perception is non existent
Can’t see the stars( if you have never seen the stars under night vision it really is something)
That being said, I run this on a bump helmet that has a go pro mount and I have an IR flashlight mounted on the side of the helmet so I never end up using the IR illumination that comes with the nightfox so as to save battery life). To extend batteries you can attach an portable charger like you would use to charge your phone while camping.
So for $200 you really can’t knock this
I will say, this is the best night vision to me only because I’ve never owned night vision. The goggles are rugged, durable, and easy to use. I’d highly recommend this to anyone who is just getting into tacticool gear but isn’t willing to spend thousands of dollars to see at night. However that’s not to say it’s without its problems, here is a list of some pros and cons:
Pros: -Cheap, cheap is good
-It’s durable and sturdy (the NOD itself)
-It’s simple for beginners
-Pretty long battery life when off (mine has held a full charge for about a week)
Cons: -The headband mount it comes with is quite bad and uncomfortable to wear, and the plastic mounting plate is of questionable quality
-the rubber eye piece can be hard to deal with if you have the wrong head or helmet shape
-the screen glows pretty bright and the two IR illuminators glow red, making you pretty visible
-the IR illuminators have a pretty limited range
That was the end of my review, what’s next is the modifications I made in order to make the device usable:
I don’t have the money for a ballistic helmet, nor do I want to downgrade protection to get a bump helmet. That is why I put the device on my M1 Steel Pot helmet. I simply extended the head-strap to fit the M1 (it was just barely too small) and secured it on with camo duct tape. It mounted sturdy enough, however the rubber eye piece would fold down and block my vision whenever I tried to move the device over my eyes. The rubber also blocked my peripheral vision, so I was tripping like the idiot I am. The seller was nice enough to tell me just to unscrew the 6 screws holding the goggles together and take the rubber out. I removed secured the glass plate that rests in the rubber guard back to the goggles with gorilla tape and a layer of more camo duct tape over it. Now the only downside to this modification is that, the durability may go down a bit when you replace components with tape, and the light from the screen is more visible in the night, and your face/eyes are pretty lit up. I don’t see the eyes lit up as a totally bad thing, since the IR illuminator already gave off a visible red light. From this modification, you get your peripheral vision back, and can mount it on pretty much any helmet with enough tape!
It’s very very cool to use while walking at night with my son. At least he says it is, I can’t catch him or see him in the yard at night. Looks like I’ll have to get another since he taken to that one. Seriously though, it works well and I like the comfort and adjustability of the head strap. Focus isn’t bad and for the money. This is a big improvement from the other night vision binoculars I purchased a few years ago. Rechargeable batteries is a must when determining which unit to purchase. The other set (not this unit but same NightFox brand) needed 8 AA batteries replaced constantly and it got expensive.
Me agrada bastante este visor, es prctico y liviano, muy bueno. Es lo que estaba buscando.
Great quality for the price. Battery lasts ages. Really good fun for getting the kids outdoors.
The product has a high quality and very affordable price.
Very easy to use. It only costed me 5 min to set up and figure out how to use.
It does working well in the dark.
The money I spent totally worth it!
Works so nice. Very excited to spend more time playing with this.
This was a gift for my husband and he loved it. He uses it when he goes into our woods at night and says he can even see mice running through the woods.
Buen producto fcil de usar cmodo pero el rango de visin y la nitidez son limitados
Great product 5 stars easy but the head band locking mechanism does not work very well for the device. It won’t lock in place above your head when not in use. I ordered a go pro attachment to see if that will work better. Other than that it’s a great device.
awesome but I can be hard to walk around with them on.
The product was delivered as described and very quickly with just standard shipping.
Nice, well made camera. I wish I would have held out a couple of weeks longer and got the CAPE, but this one works just fine for a “spotting” night vision goggle mounted to a helmet or on the strap. I haven’t tried it with an external IR light yet, but I am confident that it would work the same way without the glowing “eyes”. That said, if you run into an intruder, maybe the demon eyes will make him or her have second thoughts about being where they do not belong before there are other, brighter lights (flash) proves they are not where they belong.
Great bit of kit, simple to use, almost techno- idiot proof ( lucky for me!)!
Thanks!
It works, but it’s basically a toy. Any movement you make blurs the image. If you are still looking at wildlife you are fine. The head mount would seem to imply you can move around freely. Not the case. It just frees up the use of your hands. Night vision is good to about 30 yards. It does have quite a few options to fine tune the view.
Really loving this little nightvision rig! Now I know there are lots of mixed reviews about the Nightfox Swift, but for the price tag, you really can’t beat it. I’m an avid hunter, I have used other nightvision scopes before, mainly gen1, I have a firefield nvrs, but sadly with it you can only see when you’re looking through the scope and it’s impossible to move through the woods while looking through it. That is why I thought I’d give the Nightfox Swift a try, they are my first ever set of goggles. I’ve had trouble with hogs tearing up my place for a while, and never could tell when or where they’d come through until the damage was done, so instead of sitting and waiting in one spot where they may never come, now I can go to them when I hear them in the distance. This device gives me the confidence to walk through the big back yard around the ponds I have, as well as through the woods around the property and it works well enough for the ranges I’m working with. Field of view is only 10 degrees, so it is like tunnel vision, but with any type of laser on your gun, whether it be red, green, or IR you can see it really well and you’re able to maintain situational awareness AND know where you’re going to hit. It’s a bit like a video game when you have the goggles on, but for getting rid of pesky varmints of all types, it’s no joke. The head strap takes some adjusting but I got mine to where I like it, if you move your head up and down too quickly or run ( which I don’t recommend ) the weight of the device will cause it to bob up and down but I’ve never had it come off. The 7 IR levels and screen brightness settings are quick and easy to fine tune it to your liking, charge time isn’t too bad and it runs a good long while, I mean I’m seldom out for more than an hour, and the runtime is 3 hours so it works perfect for me. To sum it all up, for the money you’re getting an entry level nightvision device, it’s fairly clear and easy to make out what you’re looking at, it’ll meet some small needs and of course they’re not perfect, but for what they do at their price I don’t think there is a brand out there that can deliver what these do and I’m very happy with my purchase
These have limations- small field of view, onboard illuminators glow red and are visible, and blurs if you move your head fast….BUT….they definitely work, a 940nm weapon or helmet mounted illuminator corrects the visible onboard illuminator issue, and even with the limited field of view if you are on flat terrain (especially urban) or in your own house, you can definitely use these to move around with.
I think they’d be more useful as a monocle, but for $185….these NVGs are definitely worth the money.
Love this product for the price. The only drawback (very small) is that the rubber visor cover that goes over the eye piece sits too far out on the top section and needs to be trimmed to the contour of your forehead better. May have been designed with this in mind.
I absolutely love these nightfox night vision goggles, they are easy to use and exactly what you wanted for seeing in the pitch black. Excellent job nightfox
The swift model has the ir0 setting so a stand alone illuminator can be used instead of the built in ir illumination. This is handy if you want to use a separate or more powerful illumination and dramatically extend the battery life on the unit.
It works great with either 850nm or 940nm illuminators. The built in illumination works great as well. It’s digital night vision, so it has advantages and disadvantages of digital units. I really like the coating and the profile of the unit, it comes with a headband and go pro style fitting, but it mounts up to helmets nicely using go pro adapter kits sold on amazon as well. The focus on these could be better, objects 20yards Out or more looked fine, I couldn’t get a good focus on anything inside 10 yards, you can make out objects just fine, but the close objects are still blurry, although it’s the same with gen 3 units at many times the cost. Best value for the money by far.
Obviously this is not a high end gen 3 or 4 nvg so it’s not fair to try and compare this to that.
This IS one of the only affordable night vision kits available right now with a 1X zoom so if you want a 1X nvg without dropping 1 to 15 grand this is the best choice right now.
While this is 1X zoom and technically you COULD walk with these, I wouldn’t recommend doing it much unless you had to. The screen is small and it can be pretty disorienting. Better than nothing but not great for walking around in.
The IR lights built into the set are not 940nm which means the lights are visible to the naked eye. This isnt a huge deal for me since I also bought a separate 940nm light to use instead. Just leave the unit on IRO mode so that the built in lights dont come on. If the IR lights being visible isnt an issue for you than they will work fine as is.
The unit is pretty small and light weight so not an issue with weight on your head when wearing it.
Over all I would recommend for anyone wanting an affordable 1X nvg but understands that you are buying a <$200 unit and NOT a $3,000 gen 3.
Very economical practical and very hard to find 1x magnificatio
I have used them for night hunting of vermin animals and night time observation of deer and owls at close range. also have them by the bed for if something goes bump in the night. They mount easy enough onto a helmet and while to anyone wearing real night vision you will be a bright glowing dot, they do have an ambient mode. My house is covered with IR light throwing cameras, so this isn’t such a big problem for me. All in all I have really enjoyed them.
The battery life is excellent and the overall weight and the distribution mean it balances nicely on a helmet mount.
Downsides would be, no optical magnification and no ability to capture video/stills. The screen is really good – the image appears a bit blurred at first but you soon get used to it.
We use this and the 110R to look for lost dogs at night. While it’s miles behind a thermal imaging camera, so is the price. I also have a starlight scope to use but I much prefer to use the Swift Goggles.
Despite those two issues, which are my only gripes, I think that this is an amazing value for the price when compared to the alternatives.
NightFox, if you are listening, simply switching the illuminator LEDs to 940 nanometer and allowing for external batteries to be connected while the unit is running would make your product unbeatable in the market.
bit disorienting due to it being a digital optic with a delay but overall is a great piece once your oriented.
Suprisingly good for the prices, can Badger and foxes and all sorts with these
La calidad precio es buena y se ve muy detallado
Very nice night vision goggles. I have to wear prescription glasses, and it fits nicely over them.
It comes with an easily adjustable head harness, which makes this unit extra useful out of the box. If you want to mount it to a tactical helmet, all you’ll need is a GoPro helmet mount that can be purchased here on Amazon for as little as $12.
Not a bad setup for the price! Immage isn’t 100% clear but I didn’t expect it to be. Works great for around the farm.
I’ve used them both day and night, and they work very well.
