For my mix lab to go in and out of my garage.
Installed easily, worked great to let the dogs out when no door is available to install a traditional style doggie door. They love it as much as I do.
Love the durability, really easy to install if you know what your doing. My frenchie loves it medium was the perfect size for him.
This door in my opinion is one of the best pet doors available. I have installed 3 doors one of which is now more than 20 years old. The other two doors I installed at my daughters homes. These doors will need some specially tools to install but are definitely a DIY project for any homeowner.
They allow our dogs free access in & out of the house which is very convenient.
Highly recommend PetSafe.
My neighbor helped put it in, in less than 1 hour. I used it for my cats to get from my mudroom to my garage. Have not noticed any temperature difference or bugs. Cats can easily get through it but my older one is finicky doesn’t want to but she gives up and goes.
It’s wonderful for our dog to be able to come in and out without having to open and close the door for her, or chase her around to come inside when we want to go in. She’s able to come in when she pleases.
It arrived damaged, seems as though that was the fault of the delivery service. But upon inspection the plastic seems thin and weak and I wouldn’t trust a replacement to withstand any pressure from the screws that keep it in place.
I currently have the size medium as a sliding door panel and can vouch that it’s a perfect size for my dachshunds and even a 70 pound pit bull squeezes through. Gave four stars because it felt unfair to rate less having not installed it.
Great product. It’s been a lifesaver with my 3 large dogs. If you have multiple dogs running in and out you will likely have to change out the flaps once a year or so. This will help keep hot/cool air in your home. Worth the cost of doing so!
Nice door!
Used the small size for cats to have access to the garage.
It is working good for the purpose that was bought.
I have to disclose first that I did not install the door, my contractor did and I’m paraphrasing my review from what he told me. He installed it at the location we decided on which was the exterior wall of the garage. The framing was 2×6 with 15/32″ exterior sheathing and 4-1/4 (1inch) trim around the rough hole. Also the interior of the garage has 1/2″ sheet rock. He said it fit (expanded) “just” enough to fit all the wall layers without any mod. For my part the dogs used it with a little coxing and our female pit that’s 70# went through with a little rubbing, we purchased the medium size door.
Easy to install. So far no rain.handles wind well.
I don’t know if it is weatherproof since I went from my kitchen to the enclosed back porch, but easy install and does exactly what I ordered it for.
Works great. We had one in our other house. It was the next size up but only need the small now.
My husband had this installed within an hour, with no cussing! The flanges sit nicely on both inside and outside walls. Our terrier loves it. So far, weatherproofed nicely.
We purchased the petsafe dog door to replace one that had worn out. It fit perfectly. It’s a low Tec door that requires no power or Bluetooth. It has double flaps to help insulate the wall.
What a excellent door, pretty simple to install. My rat terrier took very little coaxing with treats to start using it.Now I don’t have to keep letting him out. Win Wi
There is a step where you can install door directly on top of stud or add wood to reinforce the bottom. I think the directions say its optional or recommended. I decided to bypass that so I could finish install faster. Dont do that. If you bought the large or extra large door for your cow of a dog then you need to ensure the bottom is resting on solid wood. Bottom held up at first but over a year or two bottom plastic inside the door gave way. So I got to put a peice of wood in the gap to make a level step for the dogs, which only my old dog really likes to put feet within the frame of the door, younger dog just dives through it. Sprayed wood with plastic seal spray like flex seal made by gorilla glue and everything was all water tight. Dogs beat up flaps over time, lasted good while for what they are. Cheap to replace to ensure weather tight seal.
I got a deal on a amazon warehouse special like damaged unit. Cosmetic cracks and I was able to use it just fine. Dogs grew to like it right away.
All in all this is good door for its price. I dont care if you buy this but if you do dont skip the install step I outlined.
Easy to install, sizing is a bit tight for my 11 pound dog. The 2 pieces line up a bit bumpy so it took a few days for the dogs to adjust to the doors catching and having to push through
We open the doors first and used treats to guide our dog through it. After a while, we kept using the treats until she was no longer intimidated now she’s runs through it. No more getting up to open the door for the dog.
This works perfect for my little dog! She’s about 7 pounds and goes through easily! It was difficult to install but only because the siding on my house is very difficult to cut through. If you have a wood house or siding it should be fairly easy!
This store works perfectly for my two dogs. Instructions were perfect as long as you’re Good with a toolbelt and some tools. It took a little while for our dogs to get used to going through two doors instead of the normal one that we had before but it works perfectly!
I have purchased 2 of these before, both built into the newly built homes by the builders.
Pros:
-Works well down to -10C, so our dog can go in and out whenever he wants 9 months of the year
-Flaps can be replaced if needed
Cons:
-Flap doors freeze up under -10C, so we close the doggy door and let our dog in and out of our house when it’s very cold ~3 months a year
-One very cold winter, the outer flap snapped in half once when I tried to push it open
-The inner flap gets stuck in the border of the outer flap at times when my dog pushes the flaps to go outside.
Overall, I think it’s worth it to have this door, even though I live in Central Alberta, Canada.
Easy to install, once the dogs got used to it they’re in and out of it whenever they need. Comes with an easy to use shutter to close it off.
Perfect size, easy for my 10lbs dog and my 40+lbs dog to use; the cat uses it too! It was super easy to install in my exterior wall. I would recommend caulking around both the exterior and interior to achieve a proper seal. And this was a better deal than my local home supply store.
A neighbor did the cutting using the template, so that was easy.
The plastic flap pulled away from the screws and various screw sizes did not help. Duct tape did the job.
This is just the best! We needed the extension for UK wall and added a carpet tile so it was big enough
This dog door is exactly as advertised. It was easy to install. It is much thicker than a door style dog door. Now, we just have to teach old dogs new tricks!! We have taken off one of the flaps until the dogs get used to using it.
Added it between house and garage, barely fit-extended to the max. Made it difficult to trace the lines. It was the small one (for a cat) it’s maybe a little too small.
I wanted to fit one in the wall – this was a little fiddly to fit, if I’m honest, so I ended up ignoring the clasps and just screwing it to each side of the wall and it’s perfect. The dual flap does make it a little harder for cats to push their way through. Kittens would definitely struggle but my two persevere. My one concern is that I think they’re worried about not being able to get through it quickly when chased by another cat as they never even try. They just run down the steps instead and try to hide.
Our dog is afraid of everything! So it took a couple of days for him to get used to the door. We had to secure the flaps up & tempt him with treats just to first get him used to going through the tunnel. After one day he was going in and out easily. It took another day for him to go through with the flaps down but now he loves it since he can go in and out whenever he wants and not have to bark and bark until we get up and open the door to let him out! We love it for that also!
It fit nicely and worked will with the brick wall outside. I would say that it is a bit smaller than I expected. Our dogs weigh 40lbs and fit perky through the door. Not sure I would call that Large or extra large. Also be ware when putting the slide in to close it off. There is a latch that, if not pulled back, will mark you walk as seen in the photo. All in all, very happy with this produc
My puppy loves it. She can come and go as she wants. Only thing we do not like is the strips on each side of the door do not stay on. One side wasn’t attached when we took product out of the box. Other side came off after puppy using door. Mfg needs to work on that issue. We didn’t need the weather stripping
very easy to install Must check outside obstructions before you make any holes in wall. On mine if i would just followed instructions I. Just check both sides before anything would have not been able to install part B outside plate due to obstruction of a bump out on my stucco wall . And if good inside and especially outside then just follow Great Instructions .My pets were a little afraid of double door they were used to a single patio door now they have no problem and love it as much as I do.
Great door with double flaps. I had to adjust the height of the flaps with the 5 tiny screws to get them to flop down without having a slight bend and letting air through. Installation is definitely not for the faint of heart as cutting through interior walls is one thing but exterior is much tougher. Also I had to relocate an interior power outlet and notch the exterior as it was the only spot that it could fit In our house. Make sure you don’t have outlets in either side before starting!
You will most likely need to buy or make steps like I did if your house is higher than outside as it should be.
first time ever having a doggie door. installed. from inside wall to deck.. worked well. the hardest part was cutting through the walls. very good instructions. after the entry was cut, the rest went easily. looks good , just as shown. THE BEST PART, IS AFTER TAPEING THE FLAPS UP AS INSTRUCTED FOR THE FIRST DAY… my little dog has been running in and out on her own.. No more doggie accidents! in the house. she comes and goes as needed. like the secure door for closure when gone or at night. KEEPS COLD AIR OUT. Highly recommend this idem, very satisfied with results. Judy Norberg
Have been using for a little over a year and a half now. It cops a bit of a beating from the dog coming in and out a hundred times a day but is showing no signs of wear yet. Very happy with this product.
I contacted the company and they are sending an entire new door! Great customer service. I have had this pet door before and never had issues with the door flaps. This one the door flaps don’t close good and are trying to curl up. Very disappointed in this door. It is not in direct sunlight either. I’m constantly having to try to keep it closed. Company should replace this and they did! Awesome!
I generally agree w/ the positive reviews. My only comment is that I found the template to be a poor indicator of the wall cutting which was naturally required. My outer wall is stucco … about an inch thick so the amount of time required to install was essentially tripled due to the extra work needed to actually make the two parts of the petdoor fit. The other thing is that there aren’t any space screws, washers, etc. and one of the screws was defective. 🙁
When it said metal I thought it was the whole device, it’s just the small white frame around the door flap. If you screw it in too tight you snap the plastic rendering it useless, I’d recommend using a second slightly larger set of washers to help with this issue. I had to do this anyway because 2 of my provided washers weren’t stamped correctly. Invest in a quality stud finder (make sure you test it on yourself dads). Winds are this door weakness.
Looks good, but another review said the inner wall tunnel section was too small, they were correct. Going to have to put in an extra strip of plastic in the centre to join the inner/outer sections.
I was definitely not handy enough to cut through drywall to install this myself so hired a handyman. He had it in quickly and easily. The only real complaint I have is that the inside flap ripped within two months of install. The replacements are 35 dollars. I would hope they would last longer than that. It took my dogs a minute to go from the single flap sliding door insert we had before to the double flap but works great. The double flap keeps out the cold air better as well as not letting flies or other flying insects in as easily as the single flap.
The door worked great for about the first 4 months.. then the flaps started sticking…either to each other or in the frame so it lets cold air in during winter… Kind of irritating that they don’t swing freely to not get stuck when dogs go in or out so you have to go pull them closed.. Maybe I just got a lemon..
.
Update: Called Petsafe and talked with rep and she was excellent.. I literally had replacement flaps 3 days later, installed them, and they work perfectly. Couldn’t be more pleased with the experience..
Me gusto mucho la puerta, fue muy fcil de instalar y adems llego muy rpido el pedido, la recomiendo
My husband installed it and is was pretty ok. We got a stud but it has nothing to do with the door, just had to cut someplace else making it a little too high for my dogs. The middle where the inside part meets with the outside part was a little unstable so I spray some spray insulation foam. It was a bad idea, it over filled and the flaps have hard time going back to place.
We’ve had doggie doors in the past, at other homes. One through the back door and one through a window. This is the first thru-wall door for us. Installation was easier than I anticipated. The only thing I would advise: Don’t rely on the templates for the size of the holes you must cut. The paper template (large size) is too wide. The cardboard template is about 3/8 inch too small each dimension. A little adjustment on the height of the doors and the magnets hold them just fine.
Our door opens up onto our porch so the door is not subject to direct rain.
We purchased the pet door to have our contractor install it into our “new” wall when our kitchen was being renovated and the sliding glass door was removed so the kitchen could be extended. The reason for the delay in my ability to review the product is quite, irritatingly, funny…the contractor failed to account for the necessary clearance needed between the top of the locking security insert and the newly installed granite countertop so right now, the protective slide is stuck! But once the contractor figures out a way to remove the protective insert and the pet door can finally be used, I’ll update my review, lol!! Oh, the adventures of home renovation!
Love the product but beware misleading Amazon listing.
The white wall entry door is not the Aluminium version in the taupe photo
Despite charging the inflated metal version price, the white model delivered is plastic
Went in easy. I already knew where my studs were beforehand. Drilled a hole and used my reciprocating saw to cut out the doorway. Unfortunately a electrical wire ran up that section instead of the one next to it like thought. Once repairing the wire was done everything went perfectly.
Super Tr. Erfllt also alle Erwartungen. Ach ja, meine Wand ist zu dick, da musste ich etwas basteln. Wenn man das nicht mchte, dann sollte die Wand nicht dicker als ca. 18 cm sein.
It’s well made but could do with shipping with a telescopic square tunnel, not sold as an extra, they know you need one so why not just price it in and sell as a package?
The cat and dog were a bit reticent using it at first even though they were both used to using a through door cat/dog flap.
I just posted them through it a couple of times and they now both use it at speed
I installed this door on the back wall of the back of my home. My puppies use it all the time! Tape each of the doors up to get them used to the access. It trains them. Three little dog’s use it. My older poodles refuse to use it. I would have gotten a larger version for the poodles. I measured my poodle according to the pre-buy instructions. It was too small for my poodles. None the lesss, the other puppies love it. Highly recommend. Add four to five inches in height for poodles. Excellent for Chihuahua at the medium height of the door. 22 inches.
Installed it inside so cat could get to litter box in closet. Fianc did the install but it went well at has looked and worked great ever since.
My dogs love it . We did line it with foam so it’s not slippery. Only took a few hrs training and they all use it now 4 dogs my eldest is 10 bless him and he learned it first. A bit of cheese to encourage.
easy enough to install. I’m using it without the flaps for now as my kitten is very young. I have it through the wall to the garage where I made an enclosure for the litter. It works well. The flaps have magnets so they move back into place. I can’t comment on warmth value as we do not have to the outside of our house. I am happy with my purchase.
I would consider my carpentry skills as “general handyman” and this was easy to install in the new, insulated kitty crib (8×10 shed) that I bought for my outdoor kitties. The directions and included cutout template made it error proof for me.
As it is all brand new, my kitties are still getting used to the shed as well as the door. I have the flaps duct taped open for now until they feel comfortable with the whole deal. Time (and a Minnesota winter) will tell but the magnets on the flap bottoms should secure the flaps after they pass through. All I had to add was a bead of silicone caulk around the outside frame, all necessary hardware was included.
I received the unit and installed by installing framing all the way around so that it would be more sturdy after reading that some of the “tunnel” could break from large dogs walking on it.
My only gripe is that the spring loaded knob on the door was partially broken when received and after opening the door twice, it fully broke. The door is still useful, but the spring loaded knob doesn’t “latch” when the door is put into place. Not worth uninstalling and sending back, but there’s certainly a manufacturing quality problem there. Others, by reviews, have had the same issues.
So easy to install…our 3 cats found it easy to use. I removed the magnetic parts because my cats didn’t like pushing it. I string the flaps open for a few days until they got used to it, lowered one for a few days then the other. I found that I ignored the initial positioning to cater for the skirting board
