What’s the difference between the PS5 console and the PS5 Digital Edition console?
The only difference between the PS5 console and the PS5 Digital Edition console is the inclusion of an Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive in the PS5 console. The PS5 Digital Edition console does not feature a disc drive.
Are there any performance differences between the PS5 console and the PS5 Digital Edition console?
No. The consoles’ performance is identical, outside the existence of a disc drive.
Can I use both PS5 console models in either horizontal or vertical orientation?
Yes, both PS5 models include a Base that allows users to adjust the console for vertical or horizontal placement. Watch our PS5 teardown video to see how it works.
Can I expand PS5’s ultra-high speed SSD storage?
PS5 features an expansion port that will, in the future, enable players to add M.2 SSD storage to be used for installing and playing PS5 games.
Can I play PS4 games on PS5?
Yes. When the PlayStation 5 console launches this November, more than 99 percent of the 4000+ games available on PS4 will be playable on it.

Don’t bother with the cheaper models made by other companies. I did, just because I couldn’t get hold of this official one, and it failed after 3 months. This official version is superior in everyday. Sturdy, robust and more importantly- works!
I brought this to control my ps5 to access sky go. Nice and compact and excellent quick short cut.
This is a fantastic little device. Love love love it. Makes it easy to turn on my TV. It turn on and off my TV. It controls everything that I would need it to bar the source. It is a great little remote and I would definitely recommend it to anyone who watches Netflix or Disney on it. I had originally bought an Amazon fire stick and I ended up selling this as this was much more easy to use! As you can see by the video above it works quickly and you can set it up so that it can control your TV. It is very easy to set up. Simply go on settings > accessories > media remote > set up media remote
Super fast delivery as usual.
Don’t know why it took me so long to buy the remote. If you watch tv on your PS5 it is essential, my controller battery is lasting so much longer now! Definitely recommend.
I always Stick to the official items, certainly in this case
Can highly recommend this stand. It looks so cool and helps to avoid a messy look.
Got for partners birthday and he uses it all the time, easy to use
Charges rapidly and, as it’s official, it goes well with the PS5.
It’s so easy to charge and it marries up with the PS5 look too.
Brill and looks like a mini ps5. Should of bought this ages ago
A good little remote that does exactly what you would expect it to do, nice looking and and tactile what’s not to like ?
Very good sound quality, and the mic picks up the user’s voice very clearly without also picking up other ambient sound. Dropped one star simply because they’re not the most comfortable headphones I’ve ever worn – not a massive issue, but I do find myself adjusting the position on my head every 10-15 minutes
This remote is great for media use and just general use. It syncs instantly and Sony has done a great job with this remote as it feels really sturdy too in your hand.
–
The only downside to this remote is that I am unable to change the volume (Which was the main reason I bought it). This may be due to the fact that I am using it on a monitor.
Not much to say besides it functions very well and shows when it’s charging via the yellow light then eventually when that’s gone that shows its charged , worth buying honestly
I bought this for my boyfriend for Xmas and he loves it. Such a good price as well!
Perfect little docking station for controller. Had no issues so dad charges very quickly and stays charged when left in. Recommend to anyone who doesn’t want to use the wire to charge ps5 controlle
Bought for my sons who is using apps to watch TV via PS5
This is a whole lot easier to use than the PS5 controller, very easy to set up, looks great and is ergonomic in the hand
Love this handset, controls all media functions on the PS5 as well as the volume control on TV.
Easy to use and set up but trying to end close the dvd fiddly
It’s perfect for just watching media on your PS5 – it works great with most apps – the only app that is awkward so far is the “All 4” app where you have to press enter/OK to pause instead of the play/pause button.
Shortcut keys are all apps that I use so that’s really useful to me too.
My only complaint is the battery life – bought in June and I’ve replaced the batteries twice so far.
This remote pairs with the PS5 very easily and works flawlessly after that, as one might expect, and it only loses a star because it does not have a built in rechargeable battery. That said, using rechargeable AAs is fine and no built in battery should make the device easier to recycle when the time comes (maybe!).
Excellent and just what we needed as an add on for the PlayStation easy to use and set up
Really happy with this purchase. So nice to be able to just play and have the other controller charging or charged ready. Not too big of a footprint.
Great product, charges fast and without interruptions. Nice finish and well made. Appears sturdy. Cable long enough to reach the socket.
Great to have a place for my children to keep their controller’s when on charge rather than wires everywhere and looks cool next to the PS5
Love the design and fit of these. I’m a petite woman and they are as comfortable a fit with me as they are for my husband. The sound quality is superb, and very easily adjusted to what your preference is (more game or more chat!). The pairing with my PS5 was the easiest yet. Just charge them up, plug in the dongle and turn on. I’m sure there’s micro adjustments that can be done but I’ve not had to to anything.
Having owned many different headsets for gaming over the years (mostly Turtle Beach) these are definitely my favourite. No question.
… the batteries that come with this are shocking and will make you think it’s broken after a few uses. Get some Duracell in it straight away and you’ll be fine! Amazing piece to have once you have reliable batteries in it!!
Shame on sonly for supplying crappy batteries with it.
Tried a cheaper charger originally and controllers failed to charge, now never a problem. Has its own psu for charging
So easy to use do not use remote control anymore just this nice design high recommended!!!
Best controller dock Sony have done to date! The attention to detail is incredible, it is built well and effortless to use – 5 stars
I must say this is a must have for every ps5 owner, having the Disney, Netflix, YouTube & Spotify buttons that take you straight there, plus you can save your ps5 controller battery by using this remote instead if like me you use a lot of streaming services to watch content on the ps5, the home button will also turn on the ps5 & the volume buttons can adjust TV volume too so just buy this already!
Overall quality is great, better get the original one and not the alternatives because it comes with it’s own power adapter.
Easy to use and always means I have a controller ready to game with. Just simply rest it in the cradle and it starts charging
Super fast delivery wasn’t due to be delivered until 1pm, delivery came at 10:05am will definitely order from you guys agai
Just a quick review to answer some of the recurring points in the other reviews
1. The device is using Infra-red like a TV remote, so batteries running down at the rate of the bluetooth controller isn’t an issue.
2. The shape of the remote, having the bottom section not flush with the black bit, isn’t poor design – it’s meant to mimic the look of the PS5 and is intentional. The remote is a bit slippy, but not a big issue.
3. The remote can switch the PS5 on and off by pressing the Sony logo at the bottom, you don’t need to use the main controllers at all. It also can control your TV volume.
Very good remote for watching streaming videos and tv shows using the PlayStatio
Have had this for a while know and its works fine and is easy to seat the controllers on once you get the position right.
It’s a lot easier to use the remote while watching videos or listening to music.
Especially while eating food; as you need to use your both hands to hold controller instead of one hand to hold the remote.
The remote is fairly small and light which fits really nicely in your hand.
Its range is pretty long and you don’t even need to point it at your console to make it work.
It has all the buttons you need and more. You can quickly navigate through four most used apps.
Overall, if you use your console as your smart TV, it’s literally life changing.
Easy to set up, blends with the PS5 form factor. Easy to use and is a great addition whilst your controllers are charging or you just want to navigate media. Highly recommended.
Does the job really well, easy to use and powered at the mains so you don’t have to keep the console in rest mode to charge when you’re not using them
I use it more than the gaming controller since I got it. It’s so useful for just navigating the menus or watching media apps(Netflix, YouTube etc..)
I was surprised it didn’t have USB-C for charging a battery, but it comes with and uses AAA battery cells.
Absolutely works and is excellent for what it does but putting the PS button at the bottom of the remote just means it gets hit repeatedly whilst in the remote stand.
Could also do with more buttons for the normal media remote functions.
Also, the current trend of adding programmed dedicated buttons for streaming services is just annoying. At least make them programmable!
Result: normal media remote functions missing and three large additional button that are of no practical use to me.
This is a great update to the previous (PS4) charging station which was difficult to mount the controllers on. This time around the controllers slip in easily with a reassuring tiny click. A gentle light tells you it’s charging and it cuts off so that you know it’s not overcharging them. All in all a great buy.
I had some doubts about this when buying it, but I tried anyway because the normal controllers run out of charge fast. Best choice I ever made, it does exactly what its said to do, you can turn on and control the console, even fast access Disney+, Spotify, Youtube and Netflix with the buttons, the direction buttons do the function of the analogue stick, the circle is the function of X and the return is the function of O. Fast and easy to set up, and saves your controllers for games.
Got this from Amazon at a bargain price compared to other sellers, very clever remote with apps for streaming TV services built in and works seamlessly with my PS5, very happy.
So glad I got this, I got 2 controllers and as soon as the battery is gone in one I just do a swap and job done. A much preffered option to the USB charging, I would recomend one 100%
This item arrived super quick ( thank you), well packaged, easy to open, comes with batteries, instructions are so so easy to follow and within minutes, I was watching my Star Wars movies with ease! Brilliant media controller, highly recommended 10/10
Nice bit of kit my only gripe is no usb for power, mains only
Don’t know why I didn’t buy it earlier. Plugs in separate from the PS5 so will charge your controllers when the console is off. Always fully charged and ready to go. And looks great too. 5*
Great remote and has some shortcuts to popular media like Disney+, Netflix, YouTube etc. The only thing I would of liked on it would be a shortcut to Amazon Prime and the. It would have been perfect for what I use it for.
Easily paired with Ps5 and TV
This is so useful it should be in the box when you buy a ps5. This saves my controller from being dropped by my kids when they want to use the ps5 for Disney plus or Netflix and also controls the tv. I wish one had been available for the PS4!
It’s nice and really good built, but get ready to have another socket only for the charging station.
I really like this remote, it is great and works with the TV too so means I don’t need multiple remotes. Highly recommend
Works perfectly. Having a place to store two controllers neatly and have them always fully charged is amazing. Only thing to note is I hadn’t noticed this doesn’t plug in via USB so requires and additional outlet. Not a massive issue but it was a surprise to me.
It’s a stand that charges two Dualsense controllers and does exactly what it says on the tin! Design matches the PS5 which is a nice touch. Easy and simple to use and it just works. If you need somewhere to display and charge your controller then this is it.
Great little product. Far far different to the version for the PS3 which was so overcomplicated it was unreal. Links quick and easy but does occasionally unlink which is annoying. Simple to use though and saves the battery in your controller.
I was never going to buy this initially but then I got massively carried away and bought all the contraptions related to the PS5. The remote itself has a smart look to it and is small enough to hold in your hand. Can’t fault the remote as it does exactly what it was made to do. Sleek white finish gives it that PS5 feel, also.
I just love that it has a button to directly go to Netflix, Disney etc. Easily set up and just perfect to use for media or to scroll through the dashboard whilst your controllers charge.
I’m very impressed with this media remote. It is compact. Easy to connect and does what it is meant to do. The only thing is the text on the buttons are not easy to read in dim lighting.
It is a pity that not all apps are ps5 ready or updated. Sky Go app is tragic. But this remote still works.
No complaints about device other than it doesn’t allow space for controllers with silicone skins to fit in the charging docks.
This is a great product in principle. However having owned it for a few months, I think I’ve used it twice. It’s a bit like a blender, toasty maker, and maybe a hot tub – you use it a a few times and it just sits there not being used. Should have put my money towards another game
Great remote, I use it for the ps5 and mostly watch netflix and prime, saves using my controller all the time and having to charge it, people complaining about how difficult it is to put batteries in it, it’s really not that hard! All you do is press the button and it pops off and then you clip it back down once your done.
If you’re bored of charging the controller so much I’d recommend getting this. Gave it 4 stars just because there’s no Prime quick button.
It’s good overall, but I have one issue. The volume controls only work for TV audio, and not the actual PlayStation volume slider, for example if you use a monitor, then there is no hope for you to be able to use the volume controls on the remote
Great item. Decided to spend an extra 10 for this model instead of the others like Venom etc. I think it looks really sleek and fits in with the ps5. I did not realise now they plug directly into the mains power supply instead of plugging into a USB port on the console. Controllers just sit and click in place, simple as that. Definitely recommend.
Rly makes alll the difference. Remote connect to tv with ease and removes the need for a tv remote and controller always around. The only problem is that the batteries attached to it are horrid
Tough to find but don’t get distracted by third party options, this official one is by far the best option. Convenient and great build quality. A quick heads up that it needs a spare UK plug socket and does not utilise the USB ports on the PS5.
Came really quickly and is the official media remote with packaging included too. Works really well with ps5 and is east to set up. Batteries provided which is great, however they’re not long lasting so I suggest getting spare soon. Overall a great product with great price for ps5 users.
Great little smart looking remote. The dedicated buttons for Netflix etc. are a nice touch. The lightening loading times of PS5 make it a much more viable media device than past consoles and this is a great accompaniment for that.
Really nice little controller. Very happy Sony started making official ones again. Takes it’s design from the console itself and fits in really nicely. Was holding off buying as I was fine using the controller but thanks to a PS5 firmware update, the console can now change your TV’s HDMI to the correct one when you power on. This way I can leave the controller on it’s charger and have the remote by the couch. This has made watching blu-rays and streaming Disney+ so much quicker and easier.
Works great for quickly browsing the UI, allows me to leave my controller on charge when I’m watching media, browsing the pan store etc.
The media remote is very light and very small & even when you have placed the battery’s in the back its still light.
It does fit nicely on your hand with plenty of thumb action to use.
This control is amazing. Took 5 minutes to link to our PS5 & TV. It is incredibly light & the quick access buttons to the apps is incredible & very quick & responsive. A very worthwhile buy & saves on the power of the controls at the same time as they are not in use when watching our apps or blu rays!
Not really much I can say about this. Its a genuine item and works well. Box was damaged so wouldn’t have been great if using as a gift but I wasn’t so not a problem
100% Recommend not only can use to fully navigate the ps5 also has smart button features which all work perfectly, One big point is that you can also connect the remote to your tv too so you can power your tv on and off and adjust tv volume too
Brought for the other half’s birthday as it’s one of the things he asked for. Best bit of money I spent, keeps him happy, he’s able to access his different “channels,” on the ps5 easier and I no longer hear him moaning about it, so winner’s all around! I thought at first it was expensive but now realise you can’t put a price on peace and quiet .
Finally got it! This was a product that I should have got when I first purchased my ps5 and I’m so happy I have it now. The ps5 currently has my VR camera plugged in aswel as a hard drive for my PS4 games plus a usb for my headphones meaning there was no space to share all my accessories at the same time now that I have this dual charger I can charge both from the mains at ease. Love i
This dock is great, I was lucky enough to get a ps5 but getting this dock has been a struggle.
The dock looks great, I love how it matches the console, something to keep in mind though, this doesn’t connect directly to the PS5. It needs its own wall plug so free one up if you want this. Power cable is nice and long and the power brick is small enough to tuck away. Seems very solid, this won’t be sliding around at all especially with two controllers docked in place. Very happy with this
A very well made and sturdy remote for your PS5. Used mostly for playing DVDs on my PS5.
Not necessarily needed but I buy a media remote for all my consoles. Easy to use. Nice outer casing that is easy to grip.Sinking it took a few attempts but it works perfectly and does everything you need to use netflix, prime, disney apps ec
Ok, it does the job and it’s far better than using a PS5 controller when watching movies, but it’s a bit lightweight plasticky — particularly when compared to the excellent remote that you could get for the PS3.
I use this remote for my PS5. For when I watch films. I like it because its nice and light and easy to use. Not big and bulky like some remotes are. I like the white design.
The designated Disney+, YouTube and Netflix buttons are wonderful.
I have one quarrel with this, the underside, the bit that covers the batteries, it is not flat, meaning, if you’re like me and want to just quickly press a button without picking up the remote, expect a great deal of difficulty. I’ve had to use Sugru to fix this, I get very angry when the remote jettisons across my desk, all because Sony decided sleekness over functionality.
Other than that though, I would highly recommend the media remote if you’re fed up of using the controller for simple tasks.
Oh, and the curve of the battery cover isn’t very comfy. I would have expected better from the company that gave us so many great controllers.
Brilliant little thing. Here’s why. Its It’s super responsive and soooooo easy to use. The rewind on the likes of Netflix and Disney is EXACTLY what I’ve been hoping for. If you are able to, I’d DEFINITELY recommend investing in one!
Does what you’d expect. Handy quick launch buttons for the ever important Netflix etc.
Only issue is that for a 24.99 item, build quality is poor. The plastic creaks. The battery compartment doesn’t sit flush. I’ve put a white silicone cover over it as it hides the imperfections.
Really well made, very responsive and handy to have instead of using your controller. The quick access buttons are nice and it’s very easy to setup and use the volume controls link up to your TV nicely. My only gripe which is very small and insignificant is it would of been nice to have a Prime quick access button or make the others programmable as I only use 2 of the buttons.
Good product, it is nice not having the mic in front of you but from people’s opinions in party chat, my voice is not very clear compared to my other pairs of headphones.
They are still very tight on my head, even after moderate usage and the adjustment is not as simple as it would be on say a pair of turtle beaches.
It is a great looking piece, which matches the console well but I find after a couple of hours of game play I have to take them off.
The 3D sound is exceptional, you really do feel immersed into the game. Out of 5 I would rate the following:
Game sound – 5
Comfort – 2
Mic – 2
Looks – 5
Personally, I would have preferred to have been able to try this on before buying, but given the preorder’s and the current pandemic this wasn’t possible. If I had the choice again, I’m not sure what I would do. The sound is very good, but at the moment it is still very tight. Fingers crossed it gets better 🙂

Those hoping for a media remote more along the lines of the PS3’s might be disappointed though. This wasn’t designed for DVD or Blu-ray playback, and there’s no dedicated buttons for subtitles or menu access and so on. You might opt to stick with the Dualsense for that. Some apps might also have limited compatibility with the remote. Now TV will let me pause a program, but has trouble resuming if I use the remote. If I switch back to the DualSense, it’s fine.
You can’t use the remote to play games either. Should come as expected to most, but if anyone’s looking at this as a cheap alternative for a Player 2 DualSense, they can forget about it.
The microphone button isn’t supported by current firmware, but I’m interested to see how it’s utilised later on. If you can press it to request a specific song or album while in-game, I could get a lot of use out of it. If it can only be used while viewing an app, I might see it as gimmicky.
If you’re only interested in the listed streaming apps, or you really like to stream music while playing games, this is a great purchase. You could very well be disappointed if you wanted a remote for other purposes though.
The remote is very light and feels comfortable in the hand. Although it does feel a little cheap quality.
If you’re using your console for movies etc I would recommend grabbing one of these as it’s a lot better than using the controller.
I would rate this 5 stars if we were able to reprogram the buttons. I don’t use Spotify or Disney+ on my console so seems a little wasted. Good product none the less.
Comfortable to hold and easy to use. Dedicated app buttons are very responsive.
Initial set up and removing the back can be a bit frustrating and personally would of preferred the spotify button to be given to another streaming service like Prime video.
A must for anyone who watches a lot of bluray and video on their PS5 and saves using the dualsense battery.
Perfect! Love the ease access…. it’s so simple to play music from Spotify between online matches or just switch from app to app
The remote has a smart look with its colour theme being in-line with the PS5 console and it’s also compact in size so doesn’t take up too much room.
It does require two AA batteries (included) and slots into a seamless battery compartment that was a little tricky to open at first.
Pairing with the PS5 took under a minute, just need to go into the settings and accessories tab and it will guide you through the process and even give you an option to work with your TV, such as adjusting the volume.
This media remote is not a required accessory as the DualSense works brilliantly but if you want to save your controllers battery for gaming, then the remote is certainly a nice addition to have. I really like the quick select options for Spotify, YouTube, Netflix & Disney+ and it’s a bit nicer to do everything with one hand.
If the above ticks your boxes, then I would definitely recommend it.
Pros:
Compact & lightweight.
Simple set-up.
Comfortable to use.
Very convenient.
Batteries included.
Cons:
Not rechargeable.
Bad bits: Bit on the expensive side, sad it can’t be used as a Bluetooth headphone set too, I don’t like the usb dongle needed to make it wireless: Why could this not be built in to the ps5 instead? It’s a bit sad this doesn’t have the nice nano PlayStation icons grip texture all over it – its only on the inner band but at least it is where it is needed I suppose.
Good bits: It made me smile to discover they can stand up by themselves – I like that kind on simplicity and easy functioning. They could fall if, say a table was wobbled but should be okay otherwise to stand independantly. The sound quality is a nice experience but maybe a bit too early to tell. As I am slightly deaf in one ear, maybe I am not the best to judge. It worked well so far – I use them not to disturb others at home that could be sleeping or working. It’s lightweight and comfortable and would probably benefit to match a psvr headset. I prefer using speakers and subwoofers to feel the base and gravity of dramatic music, but this is a great compromise when they can’t be used.
Enjoy!
Sound quality, controls and volume levels all good. Go far louder than anyone needs and love the ability to change game/chat balance on the fly. There’s also a monitor feature so you can hear yourself in the headset which is actually quite subtle and just enough to stop you shouting too much, and let’s you hear when your Mrs calls for you…if you have the on that is.
Faults then.
Microphone is passable but my mate said I sounded like I was on speakerphone. Having someone watching TV in the room at the same time probably wasn’t helping the noise cancelling out too much. But we did chat away and he could hear so not a huge issue, just not as good as the boom mic on my old headset.
The earcups. They are comfy enough and are the overear type. Problem is they are just a fraction too small. So my ear is sort of slightly squashed top to bottom. Combined with the tight fit of the headset, which does seem to be easing (breaking in a bit) this does mean my first session was not as comfy as I’d like. But I m getting used to them so hopefully won’t be a big issue going forward.

why have a hidden button to release the cover? why does it slide up not down? why no indication of these things on the remote? why is it not just an intuitive design like every other remote on the market? are we supposed to keep the manual for where the batteries die in 6 months time? hell even the battery compartment isn’t conventional to other sony products with the batteries inserted in the same directio
