I do a lot of gardening and this is handy for that sharpen when you are out and about and away from the shed. Easily stored in a pocket or tool belt. All round a convenient little tool. Will sharpen just about anything.
A friend of mine recommended this hand held knife sharpener. Nice sturdy handle, I’ve got big hands and it fits nicely, it has a hole in the handle, to put a lanyard through.
Really easy to use, and sharpens the blades brilliantly. Well worth the money
I hunt and need to clean the animals in the field so keeping my knife sharp has always been a problem.
NOT NOW best sharpener i have ever used. very easy to use and it WORKS wet stones and all the other sharpeners are in the bin.
I let my friend try it he ordered one then and there delivered the next day.
fantastic product .
I tried this sharpener on domestic cutlery, gardening secateurs and heavier horticultural cutting items with remarkable success. I haven’t used it yet on lawnmower blades or hedge trimmers, but so far so impressive.
Use the mirror side to sharpen, but the rough side and it sharpens in seconds with lots of filings coming off the blade. The only thing I’m concerned with is safety, I’m not sure why a small guard wasn’t fitted between fingers and sweeping the sharpener along the blade.
Could wear cut proof gloves or be extremely careful I guess.
I was looking for something to sharpen my secateurs, as the sharpening stone I had, was too big to use without dismantling them.
I saw this little device and to be fair, I was highly dubious that would work.
I have spent a lot of time soaking stones and sharpening shears etc.
Read some reviews and thought I would give it a try,
I was so wrong.
I gave it a test to get the hang of it, on some ancient shears I use for cutting the odd bit of grass. A few stripes with this and they sharpened up amazingly.
Counterintuitively, it it the edge of the mirrored side, that does the sharpening and the grooved side that does the fine honing.
I have sharpened two pairs of shears a pair of scissors and 4 pairs of secateurs with it. They came out very well.
I am going to try it on my lawnmower next, as because of its compact size. I should be able to do this, without removing the blade from the mower.
Be careful to make sure you have the correct angle when sharpening anything (follow the one the tool manufacturer put there as closely as you can) as this little tool, is surprisingly effective. You do not need to use a lot of pressure when using.
Get the correct angle and two or three stripes along the blade might well be enough.
I have tried to upload a video, giving a rough guide on how to use it and also and explanation of some issues, that seemed to be causing a problem, for some users, regarding the cap either not fitting or being too tight.
In the video I hold the secateurs with the point towards me, so people can see what I am doing more clearly.
Where possible, point sharp tools away from yourself (shears, scissors, knives etc).
Safety should be your first concern when sharpening.
Another tip, is to try this sharpening tool on an old pair of secateurs or scissors, till you get the hang of keeping the angle that was put there during manufacturing.
Start with slow light strokes and gradually increase to medium pressure, when you are more confident in your technique.
It is not very difficult but there is a slight knack to it.
If you get a little ridge on the back of the blade after sharpening (known as a burr) you can place the honing side of the sharpening tool flat against the back of the blade and one swipe should remove it.
Look up YouTube for removing burrs from tools, if you are not really sure what they are.
Using this before using my craft knife is as good as changing the blade but much quicker to do. I have been using one blade for a year of frequent use.
Is also ideal for secateurs.
This wee guy is a great addition to the toolkit. Very effective. So far I’ve used it on garden shears, a pruner, and the lawnmower. Amazing metal, grinds away on the edge to be sharpened, while scarcely being affected itself.
Bought for husband who was considering buying replacements for all older tools which had become blunt. We were super wary we would not be able to use but was simple and he seems happy. Two tools sharpened today and he if off to do more tomorrow. All in all after first use very happy with purchase
i have had many knife sharpeners this one is so small it just fits in the pocket. i have sharpened knives with ease. also tree loppers that was blunt i could go on. worth the money.would recommend.
I needed a good general sharpener for the garden tools I have and this is excellent at keeping them sharp. It is real easy to use and is speedy at getting a sharp edge when you’re working. It fits in your procket with ease and I have used it nearly every time I have been in the garden doing all of the usual routing jobs.
Everything in my house is now super sharp !
So quick and easy too – I started with my penknife then I tried it on my kitchen knives then scissors then I thought how about my secateurs and finally my axe ! They all have a razor edge now
Had my doubts about how good this tool would be but I have been pleasantly surprised. The two types of sharpening/honing surface it has are effective. I have sharpened both Swiss army and kitchen knives to test. The actual length of the sharpening surface could be longer but I guess it encourages more care in use.
Doubt I would use this on my best kitchen knives but if used correctly it will quickly put a good sharp edge on your pocket knives and garden tools. The cap is quite tight to remove but as others have said if you use your thumb to crack it open a bit it comes of quite easily.
Woeful instructions meant working out angles on blades by more hit-and-miss. Practice on something other than best tools. When you get the hang of it it does a great job.
Was looking for a pocket sharpening tool to mainly use on garden tools (shears, secateurs, lawn mower blade) and came upon this one on Amazon. Having read the very favourable reviews, went ahead and purchased it = and certainly haven’t been disappointed – although I did need to look at the product video on You Tube to really grasp that the main sharpening activity is done with the ‘mirrored’ end opposite the ‘honing’ edge. Am now like so many of the other reviewers, actively looking for knives, scissors and other implements in the kitchen, tool box and garden shed to sharpen. Brilliant!!
Bought this to put some life in old cutting garden tools. Very small but seems to work, quite easy to get a nice shiny cutting edge can’t see it being long lasting but it does work.
Excellent quality and works a treat, brought my shears, loppers and secateurs back to original levels of sharpness. Don’t know why I didn’t get one sooner. Well worth the money
Takes a bit getting used to it but when you use the right angle and pressure it sharpens things really well. Bought mine for scissors and lawn mower blades takes time to sharpen but does it well.
Delivered bang on time. Robustly made but instructions on the packaging left me a little confused. Went on to the Youtube demonstration, as mentioned by one of the reviewers, and voila! Easy to use! Have tried this out on a 55yo sheath knife and it has put more of an edge on it than I have managed to for many years. Sharpened 2 ‘anvil’ secateurs and a normal ‘crossover’ pair and they all work well now. There is no sign of wear on the sharpener which bodes well for it’s longevity! Some reviews have stated that it is difficult to get the protective cap off. It isn’t difficult if you hold the handle, put your thumb against the clip on the cap. The clip will lift slightly and then the cap will pop off too! As a man who likes to keep his edged tools sharp, this piece of kit is excellent! Highly recommended.
This SHARPAL pocket sharpener is very good. I use it for keeping garden pruners sharp. Very compact and easy to carry around in your pocket and use as needed. One thing that would help is some instructions on the tool and how to sharpen. Working out the coarse from fine sharpening was not as easy as expected and a few hints on best way t use the tool would have helped. But for the price it works very wel – once you know how.l
I was sceptical about this tool but it delivers. Took a bit to get used to but once I did I sharpened kitchen knives, secateurs and some shears. The knives and secateurs worked better than the shears but they hadn’t been sharpened in decades and are now usable again.
I bought this sharpener for our garden secateurs and it’s done a great job so far. The video on the listing was a great help on how to use this tool. Three pairs sharpened, and using this regularly I’ll stop buying new ones every year.
What a useful gadget – an easy and quick way to sharpen garden tools and kitchen knives. No faffing about with whetstones and oil any more! I carry it with me when I am up the allotment to keep things sharp – size of a fat marker pen with a hole for a lanyard so you don’t lose it.
The lid is a bit stiff, and there is a knack to getting it off – you’ll soon work it out! A great buy, overall.
Small yet very strong sharpener so far used on scissors, garden shears, pruners and even a very old Flymo lawnmower blade to really good effect. Highly recommended!!
Works as well as I could have hoped. Have used it to sharpen shears, secateurs, knives, blades etc, all to great effect. Gave an old pair of ancient wooden shears a new lease of life, making them better than a newer model!
One word of caution – you have to drag the metal part along the edge of the blade you are sharpening. You have to be careful not to slip and catch your hand on the newly sharpened blade – there is no guard as such to stop this happening.
Bought this specifically for my lawn mower blade. It’s as if it is a new lawn mower.Fabulous! Ive sharpened everything I could lay my hands on.Garden tools, kitchen knives, etc. and it’s so easy to use.Saved a fortune and revived a lot of equipment.
Great item and really easy to use. I bought it for my garden shears that had gone rusty, it worked a treat, after I had sanded them down and helped us get rid of a giant Phormium shrub!
I was dubious about whether this wouls actually do what its meant to do, but it does, and it does it brilliantly. The only issue I have and it might only be this one is getting the cap off, its really difficult but once off, so simple and easy
Very sturdy and well-made, sharpens exceptionally well!
As for removing the cap, it is very stiff but if you use your thumb to push the top and break the seal it pulls off pretty easily.
Great product. Effective but difficult to get it to right angle to sharpen. Instructions not v clear but with trial and error I now have sharp secetures and lopers.
Really impressed with this sharpener. Great for general toolbox and mid task resharpening of cutting tools. Can be a little fiddly on double sharpened blades but as long as you line up with the ground edge its fine.
For such a small tool it does a big job.
As soon as it arrived I sharpened all my kitchen knives, then moved on to two pairs of shears, and two pairs of secateurs, all with great results.
It remains to be seen how long it lasts, but the signs are good and it’s so handy to keep in a drawer or toolbag.
I’m amazed! Excellent quality and despite its tiny size it works brilliantly on gardening knives, pruners and shears.
I had been expecting a cheap Chinese bit of rubbish, how wrong I was! Worth every penny.
Simply brilliant! As soon as it arrived I have manage to sharpen all my knifes at home in a matter of minutes! Amazing sharpener and so easy to use. As previous reviews stated a bit hard to close the cap however Ive used freshly sharpened knife to shave a bit of plastic and fits perfectly. Great buy!

Bought when on offer to sharpen garden cutters. Worked great on shears and loppers.
Using this before using my craft knife is as good as changing the blade but much quicker to do. I have been using one blade for a year of frequent use.

Have only used a few times, seems to be effective but looks like I will have to sharpen the blades on the tools regularly to get a good cut.

An excellent, little handy knife. I have sharpened all the kitchen knives, the secateurs and hedge trimmer, with great results

Nice size easy to use, good price ideal for what I needed
Good price, easy to use.sharpens my scissors and knives
Quite like this once I managed to get the top off! Really difficult to get the top off which is annoying, but it does the job.
Worked really well with my lawn mower blades used it twice now and they go sharp instantly
Sharpened my new and old loppers and secateurs really well. I have also used it on garden shears and scissors.
Took some time to work out which edge to use for the best result. Not bad and should help to revive smaller blades.
Takes a bit getting used to it but when you use the right angle and pressure it sharpens things really well. Bought mine for scissors and lawn mower blades takes time to sharpen but does it well.

Great things come in small packages and this is no exception.small & sturdy & Sharpens everything it touches.
When you get it you think mmmm, then you use it and you think wow ! Simple, very effective and very safe.

Easy to use once you get the very stiff top off.
My partner used this and the items I have given him to sharpen like shears and loppers have definitely gone back to being sharp blades now
Bought to sharpen secateurs and loppers and seems to be doing the job.
I’ve sharpened all my shears with this and it seems to do a good job very pleased good value well made with a handy clip for your pocket.
Works really well, just a few stokes and item as sharp as new.

his sharpening tool works very well but the cap is very difficult to remove when required.
Bought this product to sharpen garden tools mainly edge cutter for our lawn my husband has used it and so far all good.
Nice easy use tool every kitchen needs one of these only criticism the lid don’t fi
Excellent sharpener that puts the edge on anything; knives, scissors, hedge shears, secateurs. Not easy getting the cap off the blade though!!
DO NOT PUT CAP ON BEFORE SHAVING SOME PLASTIC OFF, because it difficult to remove, that’s why it’s not in place in the Package.
Good size, weight and easy feel on the hand. Not quite as sharp as the old fashioned stone but easier to use for blades like scissors and pruners
Bought one for son. Husband nicked it. Bought another. It’s good!
Nice and easy to use and lightweight so no strain on fingers and wrist when using. Good value.
Bought for my husband who rates it as the best sharpener he’s ever had. Great little gadget.
I was a bit sceptical at first but it works very well.
So far I have used it on garden loppers and pruners and it’s fantastic.
For such a small tool it does a big job.
