The seller did a good job. Things are wrapped in a good way. It’s a shame they don’t have the original box, but the product itself work well as a second-hand goods.
BTW PS4pro is so loud in summer. You’d need an extra fan for it.
PS4 pro,as described by the seller, item looks great, very good condition, hopefully my nephew it will used long time
Purchased a PS4 Pro from these guys, it arrived super quickly and was packaged well. I had a slight issue with the controller which was rectified immediately! (They sent me a replacement) I couldn’t recommend these guys enough. Super happy, thank you!!
It came very quick, but have yet to install it. Sony are not interested in PS4 anymore, which is a shame for those with a PS4 console.
Fantastic all around! The delivery timeline was amazing received it within 3 days! The controller was flawless it like using a brand new one! The PS4 did have a little mark on the top of it but to be honest you would only see it if you were actually looking for it. All in all in very happy!
Ordered and was delivered fast and packed good, nice clean condition and good communication prior to purchase, very pleased.
Arrived earlier than expected in top condition works great seller is a nice small business too aces all round
Very pleased with this purchase. All items in very good condition and included an HDMI cable, which I had not expected.
I wasn’t too sure whether buying consoles on Amazon was legit and trust worthy but this seller made it fast and provided support 100% of the way. If you are looking to get a console I highly recommend this selle
Would highly recommend using this seller!
Great item.
Great delivery
Outstanding packaging of item.
Great service.
Very happy customer.
Here within two days. Very clean and in good condition for a reconditioned PS.
Liked that it work’s with my new MSI Monitor 34inch Ultra wide. 100hrtz
Bloody awesome having a 4K Console that works with my monitor.
last monitor was a little bit iffy with it.( Samsung)
Doom Eternal and 4K PS4 and Ultra wide makes for a fun time.
No need to look all the way over the other side of the screen.
Since it’s nice solid monitor at 34 inch’s.
bought this PS4 Pro Used consul as I was unable to buy new as they have been discontinued this is my second unit last one packed up, got it November 2021 all going well so far only time will tell
Was an amazing product however eventually died as games wouldn’t load tidy, the interface was laggy af and just couldn’t handle being used that much which in my opinion is stupid as you buy a console to play it but other than that the delivery was awsome and I’ve had some fond memories with this piece of hardware for a while and that’s all I could ask for I guess
been waiting for a playstation for years, was gonna get the ps5 but got tired of waiting so got this one and it’s great, loads of storage for loads of games
Came in a white box it was missing the power cable and the controller was scratched or 5 star!
There was a discrepancy with the actual condition and what it was described as, and a faulty controller, but that was made right by the seller. Happy now. Decent purchase.
Great product just a bit sluggish other than that it is good
Abit of information I learned about the console is that, it needs air to be flowing. So if you have the ps4 trapped with no air to be released behind it or if you’re in a small room then it would make loud noise as the fan would need to work extra harder to get rid of thr hot air. If your room temperature is fine & mild then its fine. Just clean it from getting dusty.
During lockdown I had been using an original PS4 Console which was about 6 years old and needless to say, it had been well used.
It was becoming a bit outdated for my 4K TV and was a bit slow so I decided to upgrade to the PS4 Pro.
With the Pro, I noticed a massive difference… the picture quality was great and the speed was impressive. I am now really looking forward to the release of the PS5.
I bought this on behalf of my flatmate, but since they’ve let me use it I’ve been very impressed. I’m an Xbox user myself, and althought the graphics on the One X are noticeably better, I’m loving the PS4 exclusives like Spiderman – I’ve been convinced to save up for a PS5 at some point as well as a Series X! My flatmate also bought an external Samsung T5 SSD, which definitely improves loading times for it.
Came on time, all the bits and bobs were there, super easy to set up especially if you’ve owned other ps consoles in the past. Actual console is just a beefier, faster version of the old one with more hard drive space, so really is a win win. Especially now games like warzone, take up so much disk space you’ll need it. Noticeable difference in Video quality much better, also a lot quieter that older PS4. Would recommend however could also wait for ps5 if your not desperate ?
Well packaged and delivered on time.
I am new to gaming – getting into this during current lockdown.
Ideal for my requirements but can’t comment re how it compares with competitors or previous PS4 as have never had any.
Only disappointment when opening the box was that none of the booklets ie Instructions, safety and guarantee were printed in English only Nordic countries languages for some reason. However once I contacted supplier I was forwarded a download with promise of follow up booklets in English by post.
I got this as my fianc’s pc died and he likes gaming so decided till we could get the bits he needs for it to get a console and he loves it so much he nearly got rid of his pc. Even though it said 2 day delivery it actually arrived the next day which was brilliant and the range of games for it is brilliant the last console I had was a ps2 so to see the difference in the graphics was amazing
Overall the PS4 is an amazing console and the PS4 Pro is no exception and I would definitely recommend it as your first choice.
However as a previous PS4 owner, I had imagined lightning fast menu load speeds in terms of the Playstation Menu, store and general navigation. However it really isn’t much better than the regular PS4 unfortunately. So don’t make the same mistake as I did and assume that the sometimes slow load speeds of the menu would be rectified in the PS4 Pro because it really isn’t, it’s more for in-game quality and is generally recommended for PSVR.
Later model of PS4 bought late 2019 runs quietly and has no issues, shame it doesn’t have a 4K Blu-ray Player which would have been feasible since even the Xbone S has one so that and the fact many game’s including Bloodborne do not benefit at all really from the upgrade I wouldn’t upgrade from the base PS4 unless you have a 4K HDR display and can’t wait till PS5.
Got this to play Cyberpunk 2077 – which has now been pushed to September – so looks like I might be playing it on a PS5 instead. In the meantime enjoying playing Witcher 3 on the Pro in my office when I down tools at the end of the day!
I got a new TV so had to upgrade my console and what an upgrade absolutely silent quicker and a noticeable difference in picture quality extremely happy
The PlayStation 4 pro is a great console. It has plenty of games available on the market. Easy to set up and picture quality is great on my 4K TV. It is very quiet compared to previous models. Performance is what you would expect from Sony.
God of War. Assassins Creed and metal gear solid are perfect for this console. You won’t get better range of exclusives on any other console.
If you’ve not researched it for your extra money your getting an improved 5G wireless card which is better than the one used in the normal PS4 meaning quicker downloads (Important if you think how much modern games need to update/patch), you have an additional 1GB ram the console uses specifically for apps like netflix/spotify etc meaning it uses the rest of the RAM for gaming, you also get a processor twice as good which is used for the 4k or if your like me and on non 4K it upscales it to a slightly better 1080p graphics (comparison vids online if needed) or you get an option on some games to play in 60frames per second. There is talk it loads quicker etc but id imagine this is largely non noticable to the normal person. It’s much quieter than the normal PS4 which is great and you can easily access and clean the fans.
My main beef is paying a subscription to access online multiplayer in games. i’ve bought the console, bought the game, pay for my internet so why am i paying Sony to connect online?! Try selling a console that has no online access and no one would buy it, I genuinly feel like im paying out for something that i dont need to and if XBOX had free online access id have left sony consoles behind for this alone
While this machine is capable of playing 4K games, it will only play standard Blu-ray discs (not UHD 4K movies). This is a shame, as I think it was a missed opportunity by Sony. The Pro is fully ready to play Virtual Reality games – however, the VR kit is very expensive (and the price has, so far, put me off). I also think it’s a bit cheeky that PlayStation Plus costs approx. 30 a year I bought the console to play games, and I paid for the games – so if I wish to play online with friends, it shouldn’t cost extra.
Other than the ‘negatives’ I’ve mentioned, this is a wonderful latest-generation gaming console. I’ve had many hours of fun using it. While it is rather pricy, this is a well-made console that still functions as-new after a year of use. I’ve had no problems with it at all – and I fully recommend it.
Also, unlike my previous PS4, this one broke down within 7 months, and a replacement cost me 15 quid delivery. Back in the day, they would send someone to collect it for free.
Specifically when connected to the version 1 PSVR headset, the Pro cannot handle HDR pass-through, and it doesn’t like being set to 4K resolution either.
Sony’s best answer to the problem is to keep removing the HDMI cable from the VR box and plug it straight into the Pro when the VR is not in use, and set the resolution to just 1080p when it is. This is a MAJOR annoyance.
That aside, the games that do support better graphics for the Pro often give you a choice between 4K resolution *OR* increased quality, which to me is like half an upgrade and not a full one.
The acid test for this console though was when I invited a friend over to play on it, but I didn’t tell him he was gaming on the new Pro on the games most powerful settings, and he didn’t even notice. So I don’t dispute that it makes a difference, but it’s just not a huge one.
I picked up this console on black Friday for just 236,00 GBP, and I would have had to spend some money increasing the storage capacity of my old PS4 if I hadn’t, so overall (despite the headache with the HDMI cable-swapping) it’s a definite improvement.
I like playing YouTube and Netflix in 4K, but when it comes to gaming – I wouldn’t say there is a great difference. You have to look for it in order to see it (and maybe doing so 1 m. away from the screen). There’s a slight speed boost in loading some portions of some games (i.e. FIFA’s manager days passing by while you wait for the next match).
Note: I have so far tested the following titles: FIFA 17, Horizon, Infamous 2, GTA V
A 4K / HDR TV to let the Pro flex its muscle will be a 2018 January Sales target for me (currently 2014 Sony KDL). However, even on a 1080p non-HDR display, the Pro’s improved grunt does appear to generate better dynamic range. Its tempted me through a full replay of the Uncharted series, with the Tomb Raider’s re-boots awaiting.
I got a decent price for my old PS4 on flea bay so the differential worked out at 130. I’m happy with mine, certainly the new Slim’s are powerhouses in their own right and exceptional value. On balance I’m glad I switched and would recommend doing so.
Ideally everyone deserves a PS4 Pro – I really hope this little insight was useful!
Have fun!
So, on 1080p I found that the games often ran smoother and sometimes had super-sampling which made a big difference. Once they introduced the boost mode it made older games run smoother which is a nice option to have. If it is worth upgrading from the base system largely depends on how much you want the latest machine when using a Full HD screen (1080p).
However, if you have a 4K screen (with or without HDR) then it is the only way to go. Obviously these screens upscale anyway, but the jump in quality is obvious and worth the purchase. Games such as Infamous First Light look stunning and the HDR adds to this. Horizon Zero Dawn looks insanely good at 4k and again the HDR makes a huge difference with the fantastic lighting effects shown at their best. Again, some games can only play at 1080p but they still get the performance boosts that you would see on a Full HD screen, the TVs will tend to upscale somewhat but that is not due to the console.
The only negative is the lack of a UHD disc drive which given the machine’s main appeal as a 4k HDR device is somewhat irritating, but then again perhaps it would have made the price considerably more expensive. As of now, it is well worth getting the machine.
That concludes my review.
If you have, or are getting a 4K TV and are thinking of getting this PS4 Pro to have all your PS4 games run in 4K resolution, then you may be disappointed. Only certain games, mainly the newer ones, Horizon Zero Dawn, for example, will truly be able to take advantage of the PS4Pro/4K TV combination, but not at true 4K resolution, but rather at 2160. 2160 is still amazing and the graphics in games capable of playing at this resolution is simply stunning. I thought Horizon Zero Dawn looked great on my 40 inch HDTV, but on my 4K 55 Inch – WOW!!!!
The newer PS4 games (labelled as as PS4 Pro ready/enhanced) will take advantage of 4K screens, and some slightly older ones are receiving updates to make them 4K compatible, such as Skyrim: Special Edition). Older games may not receive such updates.
Oh, and on my Sony Bravia KD55XD8005 55 inch TV there are 4 HDMI slots. Only HDMI slots 2&3 on this TV are suitable for PS4 Pro enhanced graphics, due to extra sampling, or something on those slots. So if your PS4 Pro does not seem to display properly on your HDTV, try other HDMI slots on the back of that TV.
Hope this helps.
-System is a lot quieter
-Really notice how much faster it is
– Major graphical upgrade with my 4K Tv noticed it straight away for the majority of my games really really good.
-Overall for me well worth the money and loving it
Only concern was when it arrived there was a small hole in the packaging and when opening the first box the inside box which the PS4 pro is in wasn’t sealed and the sticker sealing it had been broken. This was concerning but fortunately everything inside was there and perfectly fine and still packaged and wrapped. This would be a fault on the side of amazon and not the system itself so I am not ratting it down.
The machine itself comes well packaged in a lovely sturdy box (I do so love console boxes for some reason) and everything was easily accessible.
Set up was a real breeze, plugging into my router via an Ethernet cable, plugging into power, plugging into my amp via an optical cable (thankfully still present on the pro) and then plugging in the controller.
I decided I wanted to transfer the entire contents of my old PS4 (a feature available in recent firmware), so I made sure this was connected to the network via Ethernet before booting this new one for the first time. Once I had done that and logged in with the default account the system detected my old and new machines and stepping through the process was a doddle. Transfer via two wired consoles and my router took a long time (about 9 hours) but at the end of it I had a fully working machine with all my installed games on it.
Since then I’ve been up and running with it and I am impressed. The system runs a lot more quietly than my previous one which had got rather noisy when under load and I am also noticing the bump in visual quality, having jumped back into The Last of Us I am so impressed with the higher res and super smooth performance. I’ve also jumped back into Uncharted 4 and again been so pleased with the improvements. Seeing the analysis of Horizon: Zero Dawn on the pro I cannot wait to jump into it.
Alongside the extra power this system also comes with 1TB storage, a nice boost from my launch model and is also optimised for supporting VR (something I haven’t yet decided on but may get).
Overall I think if you have a PS4 it might not be absolutely essential (especially if you are watching the pennies) but if not it makes a great way to start with the best and if you have someone to pass your old one onto then it definitely makes for a nice replacement.
I pre-ordered this product, thus availing myself the Amazon’s pre-order price guarantee and saving 16.51 off the RRP. I strongly recommend buying protection breakdown cover. I purchased the Amazon Protect 5 year Breakdown & Accidental Damage Cover for Games Consoles.
Its disappointing that Sony didn’t include a 4K Blu-Ray Player and if you don’t own a 4K TV the Pro’s benefits may not be worth the extra cost, I do like the new light bar on the front of the controller, for me personally, I was always going to get this and am extremely happy with it and its performance and would highly recommend it to anyone planning on purchasing a new console, 5 Stars.
only now have i manage to afford to make the upgrade to ps4 from ps3. after deciding which one to go for , i went for the pro just to future proof myself as i will have this one for at least 3 years. For the record i do NOT own a 4k tv. all these people saying you need one…no you dont. again thats something im hoping to get in the future.
a bit of faff with amazon with the pro being out of stock since new year, but finally arrived yesterday. (i had amazon vouchers to use). the lack of bundles on this item was very disappointing with amazon and that is reason its lost a star, the console its self five stars, but nearly every other retail shop is giving stuff away as a bundle. nothing with amazon and the faff of no stock so 4 stars.
the console was smaller than i was expecting, which is great. it looks clean and crisp and solid. its quiet than i thought as well, but the when you insert the disc thats a tad noisy but once the disk settles its fine. The menu experience is far better than ps3 and even though im only using HD its certainly looks cleaner, crisper, sharper in every detail comparing it to my ps3.
the controller blew me away. a huge improvement. the speaker is ace, great little touch and so are the triggers on l2 and r2. way better.
Only played doom so far and couldn’t believe how smoooooooth it was. very very fast. having not played on a ps4 i cannot comment on the difference. but like i said i bought this to play the next 3 years at least and by buying the pro i have future proofed myself until the next PlayStation comes out.
console 5/5 brilliant.
I have had a pro since launch at first on a sony bravia 1080p full HD screen then last month I brought a Samsung KS8000 10 bit panel 4k/HDR and the difference is plain to see. I’ve played battlefield 1, Rise of the tomb raider, titan fall 2 uncharted 4 and all have a significant improvement to both image quality and frame rates. The TV I have has a gaming mode that automatically kicks in when my ps4 pro is switched on so the input lag is really low. For a real upgrade you need a10 bit panel on your tv which displays over a billion colours opposed to a the millions that a 8 bit panel displays. If you buy a budget 4k tv you will have an 8 bit panel and won’t get the full potential. Im loving the pro and can’t wait for games designed with the pro in mind.. I have not tried the ps VR on the pro.
8 bit Vs 10 bit is like HD ready Vs Full HD…plus you have to calibrate your screen for best results.
Recently bought the Panasonic UHD player, the 900 model, and it makes a mockery of this units upscaling and playback.
In summary – if your big into the VR thing then by all means buy, if you’re new to Playstation it’s a better system than the bog-standard PS4. If you already own a PS4 then try before you buy.
This is a cracking piece of kit and a real step up from the PS3. We are currently running it through a SHD TV which doesn’t have HDR but even then the graphics are noticeably better. From our research our view is that this console is better than the X Box One.
You’ll need decent broadband as it requires a lot of software updates.
Some gripes, however:
– No UHD disc player (unlike the X box)
– User interface (switching between accounts and whose controller you are using) is more complicated than the PS3 and for no apparent benefit
– The controller charging cable is different to those used on the PS3; the PS4 comes with one cable but we have bought two more inexpensive lengthier ones on Amazon (which I have reviewed and given 5 stars)
I would definitely recommend this console despite my gripes.
So that’s what I did, however, I have to say, I’m pretty unawed at the differences between the 2 consoles.
The Pro looks a little different, and yes, it was apparent when I switched it on that the PS4 home screen looked a little bit clearer, but at the time of writing (December 2016) there’s very little software available that takes advantage of the 4K capability and extra processing power.
Of that software that *is* tweaked to utilise, I’ve yet to see anything worthy of the extra cash I shelled out.
Oh, I can watch Amazon Video and Netflix in 4K now via the PS4 Pro… but I could already do that directly on my TV, so nothing gained there, really.
If you don’t have a PS4 but have a 4K TV, then certainly consider this console.
However, if you already have a PS4 and are happy with it (whether you have a 4K set or not) I’d certainly think twice before making the switch.
Upgraded from a standard PS4 and the first thing I noticed is that it is notably bigger than the original PS4. The design is lovely to look at, the first thing I always do is to upgrade the hard drive. 1TB is way too small for the memory that Pro-enhanced games will need. Changing the hard drive takes just a couple of minutes and a small x-head screwdriver, then you’re ready to go. I had a small problem with it finding my home network (BT infinity) but a simple fix was to change the wi-fi channel on my router and it fairly zips along now. The new controller is a stylish and very slight redesign to the previous one, and the machine operates silently even during heavy use. Overall an excellent console to carry you forward for a good few years.
Having upgraded from a PS4, it was initially an underwhelming purchase, but now that I’ve bought a top end 4K 65″ Samsung for it, I am starting to gain the benefits. Titan Fall 2 does look fantastic in 4K, on 65″ from across the room; to be specific, when climbing in to the mech for the first time, I could see the far higher detail on the text written on the mech roof when you look up – I was expecting it to be a bit poor/1080p’ish, since my screen size had increased from 46″ to 65″, but it looked very, very clear with no jaggies and was a great indicator of the overall increased clarity. I’m now starting to pick up some extra titles in the Sony 12 days of Xmas sale, that should be just as impressive – I hear Uncharted 4 and Battlefront 1 are coming up, so I should be sorted soon. Definitely a slow burner this one, but once we have more titles like Horizon Dawn, RDR 2 etc, it will be a no brainer upgrade, and adequate until PS5.
My old ps4 was super loud (it would take off when I started up netflix or a casual game, don’t even ask me what it was like when playing a AAA title) but this ps4 is super quiet with everything, I haven’t even heard the fan.
New controller is nice, but essentially the exact same.
Hard drives – if you already have a ps4 hard drive that you are going to install into the ps4 pro, be warned that it will still require the USB with the update file and it will wipe and reformat the hard drive MAKE SURE YOU BACK UP SAVES ONLINE.
IMPORTANT – Ifor you are buying the Pro for improved graphics/4k, please note your TV will need an HDMI 2.0. Without that it will simply upscale as best it can
all in all an amazing piece of hardware by Sony. I look forward to seeing Microsoft’s Scorpio.
I’ve had it from the release now and so far it as been perfect for me. I already had the standard PS4 which is like 3 years old now so thought it was a good time to upgrade and i don’t regret it as the PS4 Pro is everything that was promised.
I recently purchased a 4K TV to go along with the PS4 Pro and the differences you can clearly see, it might only be minor in certain games but some games take full advantage of this. ill add some photos that i took on COD: Infinite Warfare campaign using a iPhone 7
The only downside i can see people having with this is no 4K Blu Ray Drive, this doesnt bother me as i barely buy Blu Rays the main thing i use to watch Films/TV Shows is Netflix, Amazon and many more which the PS4 also offers 4K streaming
Powerful, quick, and the implementation of the 5ghz connection all make for smoother better experience to its regular counterpart. I do wish it came with the option of a 2tb, as my other ps4 would fill up fairly quickly, but other than that it’s a good buy. Unfortunately, there is still a lack of support to really demand that you buy one. I can see the differences in some games like in battlefield one, infamous, last of us, etc. the ones that have a support patch at least, but unless you’re gaming on a huge screen with hdr or 4k tv it won’t change that much for you. Yes the images tend to be cleaner on 1080p thanks to the different options they give you, but again, if that is what you game on, it won’t necessarily be worth shelling out an extra couple of hundred dollars. Unless you’re a new buyer, then I’d recommend taking this one simply because for a little extra you get quite a better package overall. The UI is faster, you get to game at 1080p via remote play, the graphics will look quite better(overall), the 5ghz internet connection mean faster downloads and better online gaming, some games double the framerate.
I am writing this review to confirm that the PS4 pro is compatible with the Samsung ks8000 TV which I just bought from John Lewis (65″). On this TV the graphics are now on par with high end gaming pcs (previously owned Alienware) which is an absolute steal for 350 (pro). Just in case anybody was wondering the TV runs games very smoothly on max setting. For example, running at 4K with HDR on at the same time without game mode on. The input lag is amazing without GAME MODE on which can make the graphics colours looked washed out/dull if turned on. Luckily with this TV you don’t have that problem, jagged edges are eliminated, everything is sharp as can be and the colours and lighting are phenomenal. So if your thinking of what tv to get look no further than the Samsung ks8000 (flat screen). It’s the best one out there if you’ve got the money. The TV just come down to 2000 which comes with 5 year guarantee and 99 for accidental damage. It is such a wise investment to future proof your gaming. Especially with Scorpio coming out next year. Don’t go too cheap with other brand TVs because input lag and HDR quality are nowhere near the ks8000. Most cheap 4K TVs are 8bit colour which is a massive difference in quality. Oh and if you buy this tv ensure you turn on the uhd colour (HDR) in setting before you power the pro otherwise it doesn’t come on. Hope this helps anybody thinking of upgrading their entertainment system p.s it is also compatible with Xbox one S
Many games are being patched to take advantage of the more powerful processor and GPU, the faster RAM etc.
Initially, swapping from a standard PS4 was a bit of a pain. I wanted to use the console synch to copy data from one to the other with a direct cable. According to the status indicator this process would’ve taken 14 hours for about 800gb of data. Now, I don’t know about you but I do not have 14 hours of spare time to leave a potentially ‘hot’ pair of consoles running and doing their thing unsupervised. So that was a complete bust though thankfully I could at least dump game saves onto a USB stick and transfer them over, opting to max out my download limits on my home broadband by downloading everything all over again.
One of the main reasons I bought the Pro was to see some noticeable (if not significant) improvements in certain PS4 games. First-party titles definitely benefit from the performance hike. Uncharted 4 and Ratchet and Clank both look GORGEOUS even in 1080p so obviously if you’ve got a 4K TV at home (which I don’t) things are going to look even better.
PS VR titles weren’t massively improved. I had pinned my hopes on Driveclub VR being a little better / not so pixellated but nope, no deal.
Newer titles (Dishonoured 2 and Watch Dogs 2) look awesome.
Now some of the negative stuff. If you’ve got a disk in the drive, the machine still has that awful irritating crap quality optical drive noise you had with the original PS4. Running purely digital download titles is fine, the machine is virtually silent (well, the aux fans still kick in from time to time but not as much as on the original PS4). Sony really dropped a clanger not sorting out that crappy blu ray drive though – very much a missed opportunity for their flagship console I’m afraid.
Dualshock 4.1 is fine. Slightly more matte controller, the stupid light strip on the touch bar seems like a bit of a crappy inclusion – I mean outside a few VR titles or PS Camera titles, who the hell needs that stupid light anyway.
For me, the Pro is more a PS 4.5, though if you’ve got the money it would make a lot of sense to go for one if you have the choice between the pro or a standard PS4 just for a bit of future proofing.
So it’s now up to Microsoft. Can they up the ante with the Scorpio and keep the price down? We’ll see!
I have so far seen the improvements with Tomb Raider, Uncharted 4, Battlefield 1 and Paragon. For 332 the Ps4 Pro offers a lot for the price. A Pc for this price would’t even compare to what the games look and feel like and at only 80 more the OG Ps4 / Xbox it is a no brainer.
Although there is no 4k blu ray drive it doesn’t really matter to me as the 4k blu rays are 30 which is a rip off. If i wanted a 4k blu rays i would settle for a budget one (afterthought) in a PS4 or Xbox as i have heard the Xbox one is having troubles and doesn’t produce the quality, considering 4k players are 200 i can see why.
So if your looking for twice the power, 4k games, improved 1080p (Full HD) games, quicker load times then this is for you.
To note this is fully compatible with all standard PS4 games.
As you may read elsewhere, it really feels like HDR is the game-changer here — rather than the increased resolution, but how good it looks will definitely come down to how good the HDR on your TV is as there’s currently a huge variation in the capabilities of HDR sets. It’s also worth pointing out that in order for your TV to decode the HDR information, you may need to activate it. On Samsung TV’s (mines a KS7500) it’s buried in the picture menu and you have to switch it on for the HDMI socket you’re using. Very bizarre – and not at all user friendly.
It’s also worth pointing out that HDR is available on all PS4’s now so you don’t need the Pro to see this particular improvement.
Back to the Pro — the clarity and detail are superb, with everything on-screen looking more solid and 3-dimensional than before. I played the first chapter of Uncharted 4 in standard HD while the UHD patch was downloading in the background, then once the patch was installed the improvement was considerable and immediately obvious.
When it comes to the hardware itself — I personally like the changes that have been made both to the console and the controller. I’m very happy to finally see back of the high-gloss black plastic (that the Original PS3 started the trend for) which seems to scratch without even touching it, and is a magnet for fingerprints. I’m not losing any sleep over the fact that the buttons and triggers are now in a shade of grey rather than black — this upset some people apparently. I think they look marginally better in grey.
There’s a subtly different texture on the touch-pad area of the controller which looks smart, and the new integrated light bar on the top is a welcome improvement, though I never had a problem with the previous design.
I much prefer the new layout of the buttons on the console itself, with decent separation between the power and eject buttons, which I find is less confusing than before. I don’t much care that they’re now mechanical buttons rather than the touch-sensitive sort either. Some people are upset about that too it seems.
All in all, if you have a 4K HDR TV and you want the most powerful console on the market (at the moment) then look no further.
Great value – highly recommended!
The build quality really is top level and when holding the console in your hands it honestly does have a nice premium look and feel to it. I like how it has the extra ‘layer’ now aswell, something which does give you the feeling that it’s a premium PS4, a new dimension or level so to speak.
There is two USB ports on the front and extra USB port on the back, this is handy for plugging in extras like the VR or other accessories and is definitely a welcome feature.
Next up is the new joypad, the colour of all the buttons and sticks has been changed to grey, very similar to that of a PS1 controller, where as before they were all a shiny black finish on the base PS4s joypad.
The triggers and top buttons are more textured and rough now and sliding my fingers back and forth across the R2 buttons of both controllers, the new pad triggers feel more grippy. The joypad has a generally nicer feel in the hand than the previous edition.
The lightbar on the touchpad is a welcome addition, this means you no longer need to tilt the controller’s top side to face you anymore to see what colour the light is, you can see it in the touchpad now.
The console itself while idling or even when gaming is quiet enough not to be an annoyance. There is a really, really low level buzz which can be heard in total silence, but it’s still seriously quiet. What’s more is it doesn’t even feel hot when you place your hand on top, nor does it feel too hot at the back. The addition of the new upgraded chipset makes for a more powerful device than the main PS4 and you definitely notice the improvements in performance, meaning it can now go harder for longer.
Finally the software, it’s the same as base PS4 but obviously has a few more options for video output, such as the 4K and HDR settings menu. The OS feels faster and smoother and games boot up much quicker and load faster than before.
Gaming itself is a better experience than it was on base console, I was on F1 2016 the other day (a game that hasn’t even been Pro-patched) and it felt like a new game entirely, the lighting looks so much more natural and the colours of the race tracks and the cars are really vibrant and pop out. My TV is surely assisting in this aswell since it’s just makes for a better picture all around.
Battlefield 1 was a similar affair, the game seems to load alot faster than it did only days ago on the base machine. Again, beautiful sharp graphics and performance for a game which hasn’t even been Pro-patched yet, it just feels and looks more real than ever, better colours, sharper and crisper edges and so on.
The addition of the 5Ghz Wifi chip is also a godsend, and if you have super fast broadband you are in for a treat, gone are the long download times. Now games, updates and apps download massively quicker, so now you don’t need to wait as long to play.
A few gripes I have though, are the lack of a 4K bluray player. I think it’s baffling Sony left this out as it would have helped them shift more Pro’s in the long run, especially now as more and people are starting to dip their toes into the 4K arena, so an all in one system with 4K Blurays would have been awesome, but again they had to keep costs down, so I guess I’ll just have to deal with it.
Game selection is pretty decent at the moment as we know but still lacking overall, it’ll be nice to see what gets Pro support in the long term. I’m more than impressed with the looks, features and performance of this console than I was at the main unveil. It has exceeded my expectations alot.
My verdict; a beautiful premium console with a lot to offer and has the potential to be something great down the road, but needs to be supported if it is ever to have big success. If you’re in the market for a PS4, then get the Pro. If you have a 4K HDR TV then get the Pro. However if you already own a base PS4 and only a 1080p TV then it may not be worth it until you get a 4K TV. But either way regardless of what TV you own, the Pro makes games look and perform better than ever across the board with its technical improvements and supported games and VR titles. Definitely worth the extra money and a very future proof investment. A whole lot of bang for your buck!
I hope this information can be of some use to you if you in the market for a new console or considering upgrading from the standard PS4.
Thank you so much for reading and game on!!!
NOW FOR PERFORMANCE THIS MACHINE IS A BEAST!!!! GRAPHICS ARE AMAZING TRIED SEVERAL GAMES WITH ENHANCEMENTS RISE OF THE TOMB RAIDER BATTLEFIELD 1 CALL OF DUTY INFINITE WARFARE AND MODERN WARFARE 4 REMASTERED THE DIFFERENCE IS A MASSIVE LEAP THE POWER HOUSE OF GRAPHICS BF1 IS AWESOME!!!!!!!

(ARGOS HAS A CERTIFIED 1.8M PHILIPS CABLE)
Despite the excellent hardware, there is one ridiculous and significant oversight by Sony, which comes to light when using the PS4 Pro with PSVR. The console is capable of outputting 4K and HDR signals. However, if you’re playing a game in HDR, you have to disconnect the PSVR breakout box, as it’s incapable of passing through the HDR signal, then reconnect the breakout box for PSVR use. This problem is infuriating, and until Sony either update the breakout box firmware (if possible at all), or release a (hopefully free of charge) newer breakout box, my PSVR will stay on the shelf.
I also tried Uncharted 4 and Battlefield 1 multiplayer on my old 1080p TV on ps4 pro. Battlefield 1 looks incredible. Rock solid 1080p with very few frame drops – looks and plays noticeably better than on a standard PS4. So if you’re a battlefield 1 nut you might consider getting the pro too. Personally if I hadn’t gone for a 4k tv the improvement in battlefield 1 on the Pro on a 1080p TV is worth the upgrade alone. And Uncharted 4 multiplayer has a big graphical upgrade playing at a solid 1080p 60 fps. Before it had a much lower resolution on standard ps4 to maintain 60fps. The difference is stark.
The ps4 pro might receive criticism for being a halfway house to 4k gaming but it’s cheap at 350 – you’d be paying a lot more for the equivalent PC spec – and Pro supported games are much better looking on a 4k tv. I’m pleasantly surprised and glad I took the Pro plunge.
Of course the aesthetics are not that important overall – its what it can offer us a gamers that’s most important. As someone with a 4k HDR (HDR10 UHD Premium) TV, theoretically I should benefit more than those with a 1080p TV. Not only should games offer enhanced resolution for improved clarity and sharpness, I also benefit from HDR. I both the standard spec PS4’s and of course the XB1s offer HDR too but only 4k TV’s can offer HDR and those consoles can’t offer anything more than a native 1080p resolution. The increased resolution along with the benefits of HDR should offer more detail in both the dark and light areas.
A lot has been said about the PS4 Pro not offering a native 4k – at least not for modern AAA games in general. There are a few full native 4k releases, including the recent Fifa 17 which runs natively at 4k and maintains a 60fps too. ‘Checkerboard rendering’ does a fantastic job of delivering a 4k image. Whilst it may only draw half – two thirds of the pixels natively, it makes up the rest of the image by using the previous frame to fill in the gaps more accurately so we get a ‘near perfect’ 4k presentation. Far better than drawing the same number of pixels every frame and the stretching the image up to fit the screen size as we see with most upscaling. Games are a lot sharper generally than film anyway but the difference the Pro makes is obvious in most of the ‘Pro’ enhanced games.
Its still very early days for the Pro, and I do feel that some of the enhancements have been ‘rushed’ to meet the release of the console. Rise of the Tomb Raider though is an exception – maybe because the game has been out for a year and Crystal Dynamix had time to spend on these enhancements. Other developers were no doubt busy on trying to get the game finished for release let alone consider the options for Pro. As a result, most of these offer nothing more than a resolution boost – which does look great. However not everything is scaled up to match – for example they appear to be using 1080p designed textures which look a bit soft by comparison or only foliage has increased draw distances but shadows, lighting etc are still at ‘PS4’ levels. No doubt we will see a more consistent enhanced mode, more options in more games as per Tomb Raider but right now, the enhancements are good in general but not necessarily great in every game that has them.
One of the things that disappointed me the most though was the way the PS4 Pro runs non-patched games that have unlocked frame rates and/or dynamic scaling. I fully understand Sony’s decision to switch off half of the GPU to keep the same number of shaders etc. What I don’t understand though is Sony’s decision to downclock the CPU/GPU to the same level as the base unit and therefore suffer the same bottlenecking and performance drops in these games. If you had hoped that games that run inconsistently to run better immediately, then you will be disappointed (unless that game is patched). The XB1s has a 7% boost and as a result sees games run around 7% better (not much I know) so was expecting the higher clockspeed of the CPU/GPU and higher bandwidth RAM to make a difference – not as much as when patched so not above 1080p or above the maximum capped frame rate – but certainly enough to run more consistently. I expected the Pro to be the console to improve these games too – not just the ones that developers decide to improve. This generation has seen increasing number of games running with dynamic scaling and unlocked frame rates and therefore I cannot see why Sony opted to nerf the console this much when running these games!
As I said its still early days and no doubt we will see more games utilise the power over the rest of this generation.
I understand the omission of a 4k HDR Bluray player – not only does it keep the cost down, it will no doubt help Sony with selling it own dedicated 4k HDR Bluray player too. Sony opted to focus on the gaming side for its mid-generational upgrade whilst MS concentrated on media – not criticising either as both have something to offer. 4K HDR streaming is irrelevant to me as my 4k HDR TV was offering this anyway and more of a circumstantial bonus because of XB1s and its 4k HDR player and PS4 Pro’s 4k HDR gaming.
The Pro is easily the best console available right now if you own a 4k HDR TV and visuals are important. Its still going to offer more games at 60fps than the base PS4 too but it is still disappointing that ONLY patched games will offer any improvement at all. At the moment those games are still quite few and the enhancements also vary in terms of quality and benefits. Its clear that the potential is there and also clear its a ‘half way’ step between the ‘older’ HD gaming of the PS4 and the future of 4k HDR gaming.
In 6 months time, it could be a 5star console but right now, with only a handful (comparatively – less than 5%) of games that offer any benefit at all, its difficult to recommend if you already have a standard PS4 and/or a 1080p TV. The majority of the games run no differently at all – including all those that have inconsistent performance. If you have (or are considering) a 4k HDR TV and/or considering buying a PS4 for he first time, then the Pro is an obvious choice.
I brought a Sony XD80 series 4k TV a few months ago and it did a great job of upscaling blu rays and ps4 games using the on-board processor so will the upgrade pro do better?
Unpacking the pro it’s a beast in size and a bit weighty than the original ps4, even the game controller feels weightier!
I’ve already high quality HDMI cables so it was just the power plug to push in. The power plug is bigger than the original ps4’s at the connection point. Fits in very easy, mine does wiggle in the slot but doesn’t drop out or cause the pro to shut down.
Power up, the status light I think is perfectly positioned and pretty discreet so it’s not a distraction, the game pad also features a status bar on the touch pad which just makes it easier to see game info.
Simple set up, switch tv settings to except 4k signal and follow the onscreen prompts as before,
I chose to reinstall the few games I have and down load the rest from psn online storage, whole process is incredibley quick.
I’ve read a few people not liking the power and inject buttons but you can control the whole unit with the game pad as before so unless you really have to touch them I can’t see the issue.
I like the matt finish on the game pad and unit, less finger prints and zero cloth scratches now when cleaning the unit
So it’s all set up, everything is familiar like before you can leave the game pad in USB mode which reportabley gives a quicker response while gaming but it’ll eliminate use of the ps camera or any other USB connected device.
Two movies later so that’s about 4 hours of use and it’s quiet no warp engine cooling fans kicking in, 1080p movies are upscaled to 4k and wow they look crisp and colourful, in this mode my TV won’t zoom so I get the letter box bars unless you swap back to 1080p display.
Now for the games, both Arkham knight and starwars battlefront play smoother and upscaled to 4k but really it’s battlefield 1 I want to try as HDR is the goal.
I’m happy I took the plunge, I love Sony products and if you’ve a 4k tv and enjoy gaming it’s worth it. Early days yet and I’m sure as the unit gets established things will really evolve
As for uhd disc absence who knows, tech development teams already say it’s got things lurking inside dormant till needed so if it does in the future great but I stream most of my HDR content from Amazon prime and it still looks incredible.
With the latest Pro model introduced into the PS4 family, this leaves consumers with three versions of the PS4 to choose from (not including the different storage options): Original (Soon to be discontinued) | Slim | Pro .
For people who are looking to buy a PS4 for the first time, the original model is roughly the same price as the slim (both available in 500GB & 1TB models). The slim, as the title suggests is a much slimmer and lighter version of the original PS4; it offers much better power management as well as improves to certain components as the WiFi module etc… Downside is the slim does not have an optical/digital out (a port a lot of wireless PS4 headsets require for connection).
The Pro on the other-hand is larger than the original PS4, has all original ports; an extra USB port for the rear; improved components and twice the GPU power! The benefits for going with the Pro will make certain games optimised for faster frame rates & less dips (smoother gameplay) and even look better; even more so, play in 4K resolution (some up-scaled and others in native).
The benefits for having a pro will be more noticeable when newer games come out with the extra support for the Pro; meanwhile Sony have announced a whole load of games that have been patched to utilise the extra power in the Pro.
Those who aren’t interested in spending extra to buy/upgrade to the pro, need not worry as EVERY PS4 game will work on all PS4 models, it’s just you’ll be able to get better performance from the Pro; just imagine playing a PC game and having the option to choose from medium or high graphics settings, it’s basically the same thing.

Additional Purchases
– Required Extras:
If you plan on playing online games, then a PlayStation Plus Membership is a MUST. You can buy a code to redeem from Amazon, or do it directly on the PS4 through the PlayStation Network Store. You can choose to pay in monthly or three monthly instalments, or pay for the full 12 months upfront, the latter works out the best value. Other benefits of PlayStation Plus is receiving two free PS4 games every month from the PSN Store.
If you own an older PS4 model and want to transfer everything over to the pro, you will need an Ethernet cable if you don’t have one spare already.
– Optional Extras:
Vertical Stand (PS4 Pro/Slim) : I have this stand and would highly recommend this.
DualShock 4 Controller (Ver.2) .
DualShock 4 Charging Station : Great charging dock that can charge two controllers simultaneously.
Sony PlayStation Wireless Stereo Headset 2.0 : Quality over-ear headset for decent price.
4 Camera : Would only recommend this if you’re getting PSVR, otherwise there’s not much to it.
Set-Up
I don’t think Sony could make it any easier to set the console up:
1) Insert HDMI cable to the “HDMI OUT” port of the PS4 and into the “HDMI IN” of your HDTV.
2) Insert the power cable into the PS4 and the other end into a powered socket (i.e. wall socket).
3) Insert the USB cable into the USB port of the PS4 and the micro end into the controller (just below the light bar).
4) Make sure your TV is on and is on the corresponding HDMI source.
5) Turn on the PS4 by pressing the power button (It’s a little hard to see, but once you know where it is it’s simple; there’s a plastic strip, it’s to the left, or up the top if mounted on a vertical stand).
6) Follow on-screen instructions.
Once connected to your home network, it’s always best to update to the latest software update: “Settings” – “System Software Update”.
Old PS4 Transfer to Pro
I had the original model PS4 (from launch) and was dreading transferring files over, but Sony have your back!
With the PS4 Pro all connected and ready to set-up, link the pro to your old console via the Ethernet cable and have the old console powered up and logged into your account (old PS4 doesn’t need to be hooked up to a TV, however I did anyway).
Follow the set-up instructions above and when you sign into your primary account, you will get a pop-up asking whether you would like to transfer storage from the old PS4 to the new one, accept this and it will take you through some very simple instructions.
I had around 370GB worth of files and it took roughly 1 hour and 30 minutes to fully transfer. The transfer included all my accounts, all game downloads & installs, game saves, organised folders… Everything! Gave me a piece of mind once done that I don’t have to reinstall everything, fantastic!
PRO Performance
The PlayStation 4 Pro isn’t just for people with 4K or 4K HDR televisions, sure whilst they will benefit the most from the extra capabilities this console has to offer in terms of performance and quality, normal HDTV owners will also benefit from supported games.
As a normal HDTV owner, I had been playing Battlefield 1 before the Pro came out, and I have to say I noticed a huge difference when switching to the Pro. BF1 when updated to the latest patch will tap into the extra power the Pro has to offer, this will result in a boost in graphic levels (especially lighting) and smoother gameplay. So pleased about this!
My friend and I also updated The Last of Us: Remastered (one of my favourite games of all time) and this also felt smoother.
Other improvements to the console in general was just how quiet it ran compared to the older PS4, it’s almost silent.
If you’re one for sharing gameplay, the PS4 Pro can also capture gameplay in 1080p in addition to the previous 720p quality.
Final Thoughts
The PS4 Pro is an absolute beast when it comes to console gaming and is a welcomed upgrade for those who want that extra boost in quality to their gaming experience.
Whilst the pro isn’t a necessary purchase as all future PS4 games will work on the original and slims PS4 models, it’s definitely a model I would recommend over the rest as you’re getting more for your money and future proofing yourself should you ever want more from your games or end up buy a 4KTV and wanting to play in 4K quality.
Long story short, is it worth the upgrade? Absolutely.
Would highly recommend!
As for the actual machine…superb! I’ve only played bf1 and tomb raider so far but I’m really impressed. My OH has a high end 4K gaming PC and tomb raider so we compared them and, yes, his is better but only just. I don’t have HDR so I can imagine it looks even better if your tv can handle it. Best of all, I can easily hear everything without the fan noise taking over, lovely and quiet. I can’t wait to see what happens when more developers get to grips with what this bad boy can actually do.
I have it connected to an LG OLED B6 and yes it has an issue with the HDCP handshake where it will only work on HDCP 1.4 as opposed to 2.2.
There is a work around this until LG provide a fix,
Turn off your PS4 Pro completely.
Then hold the power button for 7 seconds, 2 beeps.
The safe mode menu will now display.
From this menu change you HDCP setting to 1.4
The console will restart, and everything should display as intended.
Next step, go to the regular System Menu and Disable HDCP altogether.
Finally, if your 4K TV supports HDR, it might be listed as ‘unsupported’ in the display info screen. I found I had to manually ENABLE HDR on my LG TV from the settings, not the PS4. It was listed as ULTRA HD DEEP COLOUR, and you enable it by selecting which HDMI port you want to use it on.
After which I had:
3840 x 2160 60Hz RGB 2k/4k HDR support HDCP Off.
I played Last of us last night; and my god the fidelity, the graphics are amazing, there is so much detail which was not evident previously.
Unfortunately i haven’t tested other games yet but this console gets 5/5 from me and am very much looking forward to future PS4 Pro games.
One tiny niggle but not worth knocking any stars off was mine came with a faulty HDMI cable which once replaced with another one (make sure it’s 1.4 or 2.0 rated) I had a picture and I then tested it one my Xbox one s and no picture there so some I’ve read on other forums like mine come shipped with a duff cable. Must be a batch of them with these duff cables….
If you have a 4K TV and looking to join the playstation 4 experience then get this over the new slim model as it’s only 100 more and more than double the value. Even improves graphics and frame rate (with Pro patched games that is) on normal 1080p TVs if that’s all you have. Also if you already have a ps4 you can trade that in at certain shops for cash and get the Pro even cheaper which makes this purchase a no brainer in my book.
Outstanding console and what Sony has done to be in the position to sell it at launch ps4 costs is quite remarkable.
Right to the console, Looks great and actually isn’t that much bigger than the original ps4 & kind of feels like a premium machine as well. The controller is superb anyway but is slightly different to the original with the light on the touch pad and improve triggers if I’m correct??. Graphics wise it looks awesome, fire up Rise Of The Tomb Raider and you’ll see the difference when you select 4k straight away (If displaying on a 4k TV obviously) I’ve not tried a HD TV as I really only upgraded to ps4 Pro due to purchasing a Samsung 4k TV some months back. At the price it really is a cracking piece of kit, yes most games don’t run in native 4k but they still look vastly superior to 1080p. So far I’ve tried the games that have pro support and they all look great. Titanfall 2 is also a standout for me. To be honest I could go on but then I’d be stopping you going out a getting one ASAP as this review would be going on way too long. So go grab one, you’ll love it. Ps4 Pro…..For the players.
1. The reason why the storage is only 1TB is because Seagate would have charged Sony a crapload of money to have their 2TB drives pre-installed in their consoles therefore passing on the cost to the consumer. The option to ‘large up’ your storage is as beneficial as the bargains you’ll find in looking for larger 2TB drives online. Believe it or not some gamers dont need more than 1TB of space in their consoles as the trend of trading in physical game discs continues.
2. The reasons why there is no 4K player in the console is because Sony as usual will release a premium standalone player for the hardcore physical disc collectors, rather than take up unnecessary space in a console owned by streaming services consumers who may not appreciate clutter.
Now with that out of the way, as many reviewers eluded, the PS4 Pro/4K HDR TV combo is the ultimate experience and depending on cashflow and tech purchase priority, the destination is the same, its just the journey thats different. Playing a crap game in 4K dosen’t make the game any better and with older games being made pro compatible, its simply a matter of taste. I was fortunate enough to have the money to buy the PSVR/4KTV/PS4 Pro all at once, but if i didn’t I would bought the aforementioned in the same order in time
In preparation of my delivery, I had backed up my data on a seperate hard drive, with the intention to take out the 2TB drive in my PS4 to transfer said data in the Pro.
After receiving it, I tested it with a User 1 account and Battlefield 1….and BOOOOY…….was I impressed, I had already calibrated my 58 inch Panasonic TX-58DX700B TV [bought here in Amazon and comes HIGHLY RECOMMENDED] prior and was amazed at the crispness of the game, Heck the game looked impressive on the PS4 and my old HDTV before. I totally understand the standard definition to 1080p comparison within my experience. The Pro whilst a kick ass piece of kit, it is not an essential purchase in my opinion if your cash strapped at this time but your first 4KTV as your ultimate ‘beacon’ if you will, is well worth the research time and purchase alone and in turn makes a good investment for your universal home entertainment needs.
