Spent a lot of time reviewing speakers in this price point – Soundcore seemed to have great reviews so when this was on offer it was a no brainer.
Sound quality is very impressive – it might not stand up against higher priced Bose, JBL etc etc, but for 70 the sound quality is really good. App allows for customisable EQ which is awesome – Alan Ross EQ is my current setup and handles most genres pretty well.
Battery Life – no issues, a few days of on/off usage and its still going
Portability – not necessarily the easiest to carry (vs the boom for example), but i didn’t buy this to move it around an awful lot
overall very happy – glad I got the motion+; have had several anker products in the past and never had any issues with quality or reliability, hoping after a few more months of usage i will feel the same way about this speaker, but no reason to think this won’t be the case!
Brilliant, bought two for fantastic double stereo sound; they have bags of good quality bass that compliments the sound instead of making it muddy and dull like other high bass systems.
Tried a Tribit speaker which is half the price of this, & much lighter & therefore more portable – but it didn’t nearly give the sound quality or volume expected or required so returned it & bought this – this gives the volume & depth of sound expected, worth spending the extra for the superior sound
Some may not like the “anonymous” design but I instead like it a lot.
Great sound quality after few adjustments with the EQ on the app. Great battery life.
The buttons sometimes are hard to find and press but overall I’m loving it.
I bought it for 70.
Absolutely terrific sound quality with nice clear treble and plenty of bass. Good battery life too and doesn’t take too long to charge.
If this is on your short list then just buy it, you won’t be disappointed, it sounds every bit as good as more expensive brands.
Great graphic equaliser allows you to adjust sound to exactly your needs, but could of done with some professional presets emulating valve sound and spatial and church, then would be 5 star. But definitely ultimate value sound.
I’m a music studio and live venue sound engineer for more than 30 years.. long accustomed to listening to studio monitors, day in, day out, costing 1000’s a pair ….My honest opinion on these (Soundcore Motion) speakers are simply that they are the best sound rendering truly portable device I’ve ever heard period..!!!
I actually have 2 Sound Core Bluetooth speakers (the other being the Soundcore 3 ) ..I use each for slightly different purposes.
The exceptional build quality of both is only surpassed by their respective incredible sound quality ..The accompanying App is a delight and very easy to use .
I cannot rate this speaker highly enough.
Great build quality, it sounds epic, loud but without losing clarity. It’s small, but it’s not…
Fills a room with sound yet people are still looking for the inconspicuous bar.
Connecting to phone or laptop is easy.
Bravo Anker, I ruddy love this thing!
Great sound and quality build. Bought for a holiday at a lodge lasted the week on one charge. Great when we were outside and in the hot tub. Better than some over twice the price.
I got a couple of these to pair together and have some stereo separation, the pairing of the speakers is stupid simple, one connects to my phone and the other connects just to the other speaker. I got these ones just because I wanted APTX while streaming tunes from Amazon HD music and everything works as intended. It’s a reasonably priced pair of Bluetooth speakers and the audio isn’t to shabby for casual background music. Battery life seems OK I don’t have these loud a notch or two below half volume and I reckon ten to twelve hours playback. There is an app you can connect these to with pre-set EQ settings and a custom setting which I used.
So the sound quality is decent enough for me, I’m not listening to music critically through these so for normys like me the sound should be fine. What I don’t like about these speakers is the soft touch coating on the speaker case, my experience with this type of covering is avoid having the speakers in direct sunlight, just because the coating will get icky sticky over time and you won’t want to touch it nor will you be able clean it off.
Disclaimer, “I paid for this myself” 139.98 for two, either during a lightning deal or full price
Very impressed with this speaker and I’m very particular about my music. Solid structure and sound quality is great. Took a chance on this as ratings were high and I’m not disappointed! Party starts in 3..2..1..
Coming from Soundcore Boost and JBL Flip 2 before it, this is a clear upgrade in the quality department.
There is a lot more clarity and width to the sound.
The speaker is more substantial as well. Being able to set up your own equalizer is amazing.
I am very happy with my purchase and might even get another one in the future to connect them and play in stereo.
For the size this speaker packs quite the sound. One really annoying aspect of this is the software though. The volume level will regularly turn to zero on its own. Am not sure what is causing this. I hope this can be addressed in a firmware update.
Excellent Blue tooth portable speaker. Brilliant sound quality. Comes with an app for your phone so you can customise the sound to your liking or you can use the pre set options. All of which are great. Fantastic price for the quality you get with this speaker. It is IP7 rated so is completely waterproof. Very pleased with my purchase.
I purchased this speaker for my desktop. Connected PC earphone plug to this speaker plug, power is supplied through USB. It was very easy to set up. The sound quality is good enough however, I use a sound eq on Windows 10 to make my own taste.
I compared this with boomy Bose Soundlink Mini 2 but it is too boomy (the base sound is too much) and pricey. I prefer this Soundcore Motion+!!
Followed all the positive reviews and videos and glad I did these speakers have fantastic sound that fills the room and great bass. It is a lot sound for a small speaker it’s loud. I bought another to pair and it’s awesome. Mostly they are together in same room but sometimes I will put one in the kitchen and sound fills the house
I was about to order much more expensive speaker but after seeing how this little one easily can over power it I didn’t hesitate to order.
Sound is really good. Much better than JBL Charge 4, sound is just clearer and it’s surprisingly louder. Even on max volume music coming from the speaker is high quality. There is a nice surprise that you can see battery level on the iOS battery widget . EQ build in to the speaker actually works and can improve the quality and you can set it to your likening.
I’m so glad I saw all of these YouTube reviews with comparisons.
The price is also surprisingly low for the quality of materials this speaker is made of.
Bass is lovely low even on low volume.
It’s also water prof that’s very useful during showers, you don’t have to worry that steam or water will damage it.
Overall for this price it’s 11/10, I recommend
u won’t be disappointed
This is for the Soundcore Motion +. The speaker is sturdy, robust and very well made. The sound quality is clear and very good. I placed it at the end of an ecnlosed hall about 13M x 9M and it filled the room and sounded excellent. I would expect even with a reasonable number of people in the room it would still be audible and indeed loud at full volume. I also tried it in the front room of my 2 bed semi and can hear it clear as day in every room….as can my neighbour apparently.!! (Only for the test of course). He was suitably impressed and is considering getting one himself.
The only thing I would say is that the App is very basic. Its for updating the speaker and adjusting the levels. There is no control of your music or ability to create playlists. I know this isn’t a requirement no doubt, but if you added this then overall this would be a 6 out of 5 stars. I got it with for 80 as they regularly do discounts (I have seen is slightly cheaper but couldn’t wait for that offer to come around again).
Overall I think it’s top notch, if i had a bigger house I would get two just to see what they sound like in stereo….which must be very impressive indeed. I am not tight, i am not minted….i like value for money and quality and i felt i got both with the Motion+
Really impressed with the sound quality and lack of distortion at high volumes. I’m running two of these together in TWS mode and they sound awesome considering their size, great bass. Battery life is also very good. I’ve also tested these with the master speaker plugged into a PC using the AUX-In and they work fine.
One thing I would highly recommend doing though is applying a Custom EQ setting as this really brings them to life! Check out Alan Ross Reviews on YouTube as he has the best EQ settings for the Motion+.
My favourite provider of music is my Internet radio. I enjoy classical music the most (1500 AD to the present day), plus the likes of modern greats like Jimi Hendrix and Crosby, Stills and Nash. This means I like my music as pure as possible, without paying 2000 per speaker. I was drawn to the Motion+ with the frequency sound ranges built in, plus control from the App. I ordered one (on offer at 80) and while it was coming I watched a number of video reviews. Seeing the clarity available from having two speakers (and the second one was on a further offer of 70) I ordered another one and despite refusing to pay for “express” delivery, they both arrived on the same day.
I was also drawn by the fact that I could link my Internet radio to the first speaker by an audio out socket (Bluetooth goes into this radio and not out to the external speaker). Why they miss this off so many much dearer and “Smarter” speakers is beyond me. I then linked the first speaker to the second by Bluetooth and despite a few missed start-ups, everything synchronized. The clear music from these stereo speakers was remarkable. In fact it was the nearest to live music I have experienced since analogue records. The twelve hour battery life is a stretch. What happens is the volume suddenly drops after several hours of playing, to conserve power to meet the advertised time. So, perhaps not the best for late night beach parties. I have played them at a high volume and they did not suffer from distortion. Although they are portable, I find them becoming a fixture in the one room with the radio on Klassic 1 from Berlin, where I can wander around while Beethoven or Charles Ives swirls around me. Now what do I do about that rubbish car stereo, I did not realize was strangling my listening pleasure for years? I have seen the Motion+ speakers used in a car video, but will I have the nerve?
Speaker reviews are very subjective and dependent on individual situations and use, so below are the objective pros and cons, and then my perspective on these speakers.
PROS: solid build quality – this thing is heavy, pairs quickly via bluetooth, angled set up and spread of speakers give excellent separation of sound, app is clean and easy to use allows firmware updates volume control and EQ set-up, holds sound quality through to nearly max volume where you get some distortion but nothing concerning. Has aptx hi-res which many bluetooth speakers dont – noticeably improves quality however you will need hi re audio files and the right hardware on your phone to work. Aux input is a bonus and good alternative if you don’t have aptx and want best sound possible but doubt many will use this. Has a mic which makes this a useful speakerphone – the quality is great, but not like a dedicated Jabra – voice is distant to the listener.
CONS: fingerprint magnet – has a rubberized finish which feels great but a pain to keep clean. Battery is smaller than others – I get approx 10 hours at 70% volume which I think is a fine trade off for the sound quality. A carry case would have been a nice touch but this isn’t really that type of speaker – it rarely moves from the room I keep it in.
Considerations – this is a directional speaker so to get the best from it placement is critical. Especially distance from walls, 20cm is what I’ve optimal to get balanced bass. Perfect for small to medium sized bedrooms/kitchens/bathrooms. This is not a boom boom party speaker but can deliver solid sound quality. EQ will need setting – out of this box it is very flat. At this price point I’ve not heard a speaker this good. Very pleased with this purchase would get another. Easily rivals the smaller BOSE bluetooth units if set up/placed correctly.
Sound quality is so good. Very glad I purchased this for the price compared to more expensive portable speakers. Gets very loud, good quality and I didn’t hear any distortion (I suggest to make sure you have your EQ settings off for Spotify and only use the equaliser in the Soundcore app or it might start to sound muffled, for me anyway because they were both bassy settings)
Was cursing this speaker as not connecting to main receiver.. After about an hour on Google found the receiver was set to bluetooth off on default .. doohh. Sorted, it is a magnificent sound player in all rooms in house.
What an awesome speaker. Really impressive sound quality and depth. The sound balance on the motion+ wins over any other speaker in the portable range.
The app is fantastic as it allows for customisable equaliser settings.
Downside: It would be nice if the battery lasted longer and when pairing up with another I found the speakers to cut out a little. Finger prints can easily occur on the speaker because of the material but can be wiped down simple enough.
However as a single portable speaker I wouldn’t trade this for any other. The build quality is great and If you appreciate good sound quality and balanced bass which reaches out then this is the one.
Nicely put together, heavy speakers (I bought two) easy to connect to phone via Bluetooth or 3.5 mm jack plug. They pair up themselves when switched (on after the initial set up.) Sound is very good for such small speakers, no rattles or odd noises just clean stereo music. When finished, switching off one unit switches off the other one also. The app is really essential to get the best functionality from these but you can yous them without. One important thing to remember is that the sound will mute for a few seconds with every notification that comes up on your phone if Bluetooth is on, on the phone. Turn off the notifications or turn off the phones Bluetooth as this will interrupt even when connected via the AV lead . The app provides a good range of tone control settings including a graphic equaliser and various other pre-set sound configurations which will be remembered even after power off. Volume can also be remotely controlled from the app as can the on off switch. Used at a normal room volume level, I get almost a week of afternoon listening from them before needing to recharge. Very portable can be taken from room to room if need be, no cables to worry about. I have awarded them 5 stars.
I use this item in a garden bar and as the weather has been around or below freezing it has performed very well.
The battery life has been brilliant even in these temperatures and sound quality and volume are excellent.
We bought this so my wife could have background music on when going into labour. The speaker was played at low volume from around 10am through to 2am that night.
It really helped her, the sound quality is amazing for the size of the package. I highly recommend sound core products, because I used to have the sound core 2 for work which has taken a beating for 3 years.
I’ve had this product a month now I am so so happy I decided to buy this Bluetooth speaker over some of the cheaper options. Not only is the sound quality excellent, it’s twice as load as my old Jambox. I’ve never needed to max out the volume which means the battery life is insane. I got mine delivered a month and 3 days ago, and today is the first time I’ve had to put it back on charge since the day I got it. Considering just how much I’ve used it, that is way better than I expected. I’d give this product 6 stars if I could. Highly recommend.
I’ve been using this speaker for a year now, it is brilliant. Lovely compact size yet has excellent room filling sound, great dynamic sound quality and options to change sound using the graphic equaliser on the soundcore app. Highly recommended.
Really like anker products, previously have owned the soundbar and the soundcore boost speaker! Very pleased with both until the boost bar started to make static noise every so often which when using the speaker everyday became very annoying. Decided to buy this one in Black Friday sales and am impressed, the loudness is great, bass isn’t much different to the soundcore boost. But if you are looking for a decent speaker and not wanting to pay 100+ this is a very good option!
Works perfectly. Connects to up to two devjces with no issues. Sound quality is better than I was expecting and battery is a lot better than expected. I work with music on in the background and this can last pretty much a full day of playback without recharging.
I have mine for almost a year now I think. The battery live is really good I find and it is perfect to take with you in a back pack or just use it at home. The volume is also really good and the sound is price- quality one of the best speakers I have used and I have used over 15 speakers at least. The only “problem” that I have with this product is when it is not playing anything you can hear a buss or a sound. It isn’t very loud but if you are in a quiet room you can hear it. Other then that awesome speake
Wanted a speaker to pair with my new turntable so went for this. Easy pairing and VERY loud. You can adjust the equaliser setting with a phone app which is great. Not the lightest (imagine a housebrick) but that’s an advantage as it’s not easily knocked over. Good battery life although this will reduce if you play it loud all the time. Highly recommended
Great little speaker with large sound and excellent deep bass too.
I originally bought one of these speakers 10-days ago but returned it due to a low humming sound when on low volume and charging and got a full refund.
I then decided to by a SoundCore 2 (Updated) but the sound on that was terrible – see separate review for that and so, I sent that back today but purchased another of these Motion+ speakers in the hope I do not get the same humming sound and I don’t. This speaker is perfect.
The sound quality on this is amazing. I turned off the EQ on my iPhone, used the Anker app and used the custom EQ to set my own preference to Treble, Mids and Bass. Just a perfect sound to the several genres I was testing it on.
You know you have a quality speaker when it weighs a fair amount. And as I also stated in my SoundCore 2 review in regards to Bass Ports for proper bass. This has a powerful Woofer and a large Bass Port on the rear of the speaker and with the right setting, you can really feel the bass from this speaker.
PROS:
Excellent quality build
Excellent Clear sound
The app is excellent for setting your own tone
Fast Bluetooth connection.
Cons:
Just the one. Shame the Aux and USB leads are only half a metre long. But luckily, I have a USB extension lead.
This speaker? Definately worth the money. Just a shame I had to buy a second due to the first being faulty. But hey, nothing is perfect 🙂
Very well made, solid and weighty. I like the open grill design so you can see the speaker cones moving. The size and weight means it’s not that portable but I didn’t buy it for that. Sound quality is crystal clear and benefits from being able to be customised via the Soundcore app. The only slight downer for me was that the bass, while strong at low to mid volume is good, it seems to back off as the volume increases, although bass response in general seems to have improved after a fews weeks of use. Max volume is very loud for the size of the unit. Overall very happy with it.
Good value for money. Arrived on time. Well packaged. Neat unit easy to set up and use.
Wow this product is fantastic. For its size it’s loud…. loud to the point that I’ve never had it at full blast while working out hitting a heavy bag , it’s clear it’s got great base, the battery is fantastic and its water proof. It’s a little larger than some travel speaker but it’s got way more bass than most. Genuinely a fantastic product. Can’t recommend it enough. Top product.
Absolutely love this speaker. Sound is quality and the bass is great. Only downfall is that it constantly loses bluetooth connection and if there are any other devices around with bluetooth on it will pick up every single one of them which completely ruins the experience. It’s ridiculous really and the volume will end up adjusting by itself as a result of this.
Right , having owned a few various Anker products all of which have been excellent , I must admit although still good this product was slightly disappointing I must admit , the sound quality is very clear and crisp I’ll give it that but it lacks that bit of punch in my opinion , I have a soundcore boost and for the size of it , it grabs your attention once you crank it up , this motion plus didn’t have the same wow factor and even after playing with the equalisers via the app couldn’t get it to give me the same “wow what a piece of kit ” considering its at the mid to high end of the Bluetooth speaker market I feel my cheaper soundcore boost has the slight edge of this . It’s still a nice speaker and like I said very clear on the vocals ect just a bit disappointing , sorry Anker but have dropped the ball a bit on this one
This thing is incredible! I used to own a boom ue2, which in all fareness was good. Some friends and I have, since covid with its no festivals, met up and had little raves danced in fields every now and again.
We were gonna have one last one for the summer and I thought I’d buy a speaker with a bit more ‘omph! ‘ (omph omph omoh!)
So after much searching, I found this bad boy.
It has such a good sound outdoors(and indoors)
The bass is booming, and it also has good clarity, although mids could be a tiny bit higher, you can’t really go wrong with this speaker.
Sound quality: for its size is surprisingly good! You can adjust equaliser via soundcore app. It’s just one speaker which means it is Mono sound but you can pair it for stereo.
The app: in old YouTube reviews one of the pain points was that equaliser reset itself after app was closed. This is not the issue anymore. Mine settings are set all the time.
Quality: looks great and discreet. It has a good weight to it- for me it’s a plus but I’m using in kitchen and bathroom.
Battery life is good. Will last for a day of listening. Depends how loud the music is. And it can be Very loud!
Over all I doubt there is anything better for the price.
This speaker is amazing and has been an essential part of powering my life since I’ve had it. It’s so good, someone else thought they would help themselves to my first one…
The build and sound quality are both premium but the price is a bargain at 99 and a steal at 75 (with a voucher for my replacement). If not for the theft, I’d have the stereo pair for larger group gatherings (not essential I guess in these covid times). I can’t wait for Ankers answer to the UE Hyperboom for larger parties…
Genuinely can’t recommend highly enough. I prefer it to the minirig I had and I think it outperforms more expensive Bose or B&O speakers at a fraction of the price.
My favourite settings on the Anker EQ app are Heavy for bass (98% of my life) or Original if you just need less thump while listening to downtempo at bedtime. You can obviously fine tune with the customisable if you’re good at that sort of thing.
For chilled or party times on the beach, it just shrugs off sand and dust and will keep a large group of people on their feet and dancing (depending on the DJ) for 5 hours at,/near full volume or much longer if you drop the volume a little.
It’s great fun by the pool to scare your mates and drop it in to have them fish it out, with the music perfectly resuming as soon as it resurfaces (I’ve never let it go anywhere near the rated limits for water protection though as is so precious to me).
My ONLY wish is that the volume graduations could be doubled in number to give finer control as some of the lower volume jumps seem to sit either side of the ideal volume for me. Wonder if this could be addressed with a firmware update..?
I’m not precious about aesthetics but if you are then I can imagine it might hard to keeping the matt black finish of the body looking good as new (not reasonable anyway in my opinion).
I like the weight of it but it might not be for everyone. I didn’t want to compromise on sound quality and battery life and the weight feels premium to me.
Tell a lie, I do have another wish; that everyone get one of these at birth to bring the joy of music to their lives!
I needed a replacement for the very old Creative speakers connected to my desktop PC, plus I wanted a sturdy speaker that I could use outdoors when training (and annoy the neighbours).
This fits the bill – I like the weight, as it anchors the speaker to a hard surface helps the sound; you have to connect a phone to use the Soundcore app to use the equaliser settings, which is fine when you play music via Bluetooth.
Connecting to the PC with the aux/line in cable produces better sound (as does with the headphone jack on a phone), stopping the slightly muffled ‘Bluetooth sound’ common to this type of speaker.
They’re still not as good as dedicated bookshelf units, but for the price, they’re pretty good, there’s not a lot of distortion at high volumes, and given the relatively small size of the unit, they punch above their weight in sound volume and quality.
All I need is another one and I can pair them up!
Bought two of these to act as a stereo pair, sound out of the first one was great but when paired (which was very straightforward) it was fantastic. Quite large and heavy for long distance portability but fits in hand easy enough to carry around. Overall very happy with my purchase.
Extremely happy this this speaker. It looks very functional and it is. Sound is great – stereo clearly present. I have used it as a desk speaker and ful room speaker. The default equalisation settings as others have said benefit from some tweaking in the app to get more of a bathtub curve on the freq bands to get the best sound. Its substantial in the hand with good battery life. One thing I particularly like when it’s cranked up is the fact that the grill lets you see the speaker cones thumping away – it’s high tech modern bluetooth speaker with a bit of a retro sweetner. At the time I got it for 69.99 which was a steal. I also have a pair of soundcore life p2 ear buds which do their job well but I’d say the Motion+ audio wise is one of their best prducts.
Tried a few different speakers and loads of reviews and this motion plus to me is the best for the money and better than some dearer one’s I tested. Set the equaliser up to your own taste and it sounds spectacular (plenty of youtube reviews to advise). Loud and clear sound with good noticeable base I don’t like the thumpy type and the battery lasts for ages. I can only imagine what two of these would sound like but for me it’s plenty of perfect sound.
I really like this product, as a bluetooth speaker it works almost flawlessly.
The only real problem I have with this speaker is that I like to use the AUX jack for devices that don’t support bluetooth (Nintendo Switch, I’m looking at you). Unfortunately there’s a _ton_ of noise and crackle whenever you have the jack plugged in (especially when the speaker is charging, but it happens all the time), and it makes for an extremely frustrating experience. I presume there’s some sort of ground loop. For most people this probably doesn’t matter, but I bought this speaker specifically because it had an AUX jack and it’s really unfortunate that there’s this issue.
Finally, there’s a mic on the speaker that’s practically useless and I’d rather not have it even included, but that’s very minor.
I purchased this speaker to replace a KEF Muo which I thought had died after I left it out in the rain [as it happens it worked again a few days later after it dried out!]. My 4 stars for sound quality is by comparison with the KEF, although that is not really fair given that the Soundcore is only one third of the price. The sound is excellent for speech and very good for music. The equaliser settings via the mobile app are subtle, but do make a difference.
My only issue is with connectivity, as I can only get the bluetooth to work with my iPhone, not my iPad or MacBook Pro. However, unlike my old KEF, it does have a standard headphone socket and nothing beats a hardwired connection! In short this is an excellent speaker and extremely good value for money.
This is brilliant, and I was a little skeptical about it.
For the cost around 100 quid it really good I have looked at the reviews for almost a week before making the purchase even watched YouTube reviews.
The problem with the custom equaliser settings not being retained is no longer an issue I guess they fixed it with the firmware update.
The sound is LOUD very loud for my taste, I turned it up to I would say 80% on my phone and it was more noise than I can handle but it did make listening to Leonard Cohen Live, sound awesome.
The speaker is very heavy would say it is heavier than the Bose soundlink speaker, but almost half the price and the sound is great, only thing is I won’t be carrying it with me unless I want a work out session.
You can feel the heavy bass beats and prior to buying people mentioned it is a finger print magnet, therefore I bought the red one and I can say I don’t have finger print issues well not that I can see much of.
A good quality product supplied at a competitive price. The sound range and volume are surprisingly good although setting up the custom settings initially makes a huge difference.
This thing in brilliant, just brilliant and having the equaliser makes the biggest difference. I have custom set mine for maximum bass and my god, it actually makes your head ache if you listen to it for too long. Would be nice if they made an equaliser app fow Windows too however I have discovered that even when the speaker is connected to my laptop I can still connect it at the same time to my phone to play with the eq.
This was bought to replace the JBL. It is good but I thought that it would be a bit louder and more bass, and yes I have pressed the bass boost button.
Believe all the 5 star reviews about these speakers, I have had anker products before and they never fail to impress. The last anker speaker I bought is still going strong after 2 and a half years, it is only a small one just for a bit of noise for the wife while she is in the kitchen, anyway, I was keen to get myself a high end bluetooth speaker and spent hours on youtube watching reviews. This speaker kept cropping up and blowing away much more expensive units…..Sony, Bose, JBL charge, UE megaboom et al, so I decided that seeing as it was by Anker I would give it a spin, got on to Amazon and they were on offer for 79.99, a saving of 20……bought two….WOW, WOW, WOW 160 for TWO of these, having now listened to them first hand, I would have happily paid 160+ for one. The sound right across the spectrum is superb, super bass and a companion app to customize your own listening preferences, you want loud? You got loud, careful, this thing will lift your roof off if you are not careful, Full volume and no distortion, you have to hear it to believe it. Don’t misunderstand me, this sounds gorgeous at any volume, just do yourself a favour, stop reading these reviews right now, click add to basket and prepare for audio heaven. Anyway, I can’t sit here all day, I got some serious music to play on my new found pride and joy. Thank you Anker…. Thank you very much.
I purchased this for an Echo Dot, which is used in the kitchen and the garden. I updated the firmware and the dynamics changed straight away. For listening to pop music, the radio, etc. the standard setting are fine and you can hit a button to put it into bass up mode for more low-end driven tracks. If you’re not happy with the equaliser settings, you can use the app to create a custom setting but be warned: you have to open the app each time after powering off. I tried youtuber Oluv’s famous settings: in general, I would not recommend. Always trust your own ears. I believe their are several other apps that do the same but retain the settings. I would prefer a mini amp and hifi speakers for the same price but if you need the portability, this is a very good option and it is a huge upgrade on the Echo Dot sound quality.
I bought this along with a UE boom3, UE megaboom 3 and UE wonderboom2
The soundcore competes very well in terms of sound with significantly more sub bass than the boom3. However the soundcores sound profile is a lot colder than the ue’s… Yes it has nice deep sub bass at below 60% volumn but the sound is very cold and this makes vocals sound quite high pitched….
Both UE speakers have a darker more realistic timbre and the megaboom 3 produces more sub bass upto %60. The boom3 is left in the dust in therms of sub bass. The megaboom3 though distorts horrendously over 60% volumn and the bass becomes more woopy than boomy… It’s really quite atrocious… The soundcore does not distort at all but the bass over does reach a max level and then stays there whilst the treble continues to increase making the speaker very shrill…
In terms of high frequency. Both UE speakers are fine but have very little treble seperation… You can basically hear one symbol where as the soundcore is very defined and it is easy seperating all the high frequency and high mids. You can tell how many cymbals and vocals… The UE in comparison is a bit of a dry mess. The UE wonderboom2 however sounds more like the soundcore with vastly better seperation and high end detail than its more expensive bigger brothers…. The wonderboom2 sounds a lot like the soundcore only quieter…
My main problems with the soundcore is its lack of warmth which the UE boom3 and megaboom3 have (wonderboom2 is colder) as well as the soundcores desire to become quite treble piercing… This is not to say the soundcore is a treble monster but unless you tweak the eq it can be a little painful at higher volumns.
I also found the UE speakers are able to project the sound further providing a more 3d sound. The soundcore is more limited to an area close to the device. This is probably down to the nature of the soundcore being front firing whilst the ue’s are side firing.
I also truly hate the rubberised finish on the soundcore…. It becomes very dirty quickly (unlike the ue’s which so not attract finger prints at all). I have the black soundcore and every single time I touch it it looks a year old. This would be fine if not for the trouble it takes to clean. Water simply will not do and I have to resort to alcohol wipes… The metal grill will also allow dust, sand etc and I assume the grill will have to be removed for cleaning at some time in the future….
All in all, all these speakers at below 60-70% sound good (megaboom 3 has the bass issue mentioned) but the soundcore just gives you a lot more information, more definition, clarity and seperation… The UE boom3 and megaboom3 have a warmer easier to listen to sound.. the wonderboom2 is probably the best all rounder despite being quieter (not by a great deal)
I would recommend the soundcore to anyone for use in a bedroom on a shelf or in an office where volumn isn’t too important and you never have to touch it… The booms I recommend for carrying around, especially the boom3 which is light, feels indestructible and will go to full volumn without distortion… I would say forget the megaboom3 as its pretty poor unless at low volumn which to me makes it pointless….
The wonderboom2 would work brilliantly in the office or outdoors…
Update:
I tried 2 of these as a stereo pair and they sound truly amazing!!!! They are tws so one speaker sends the signal to the other. This requires no apps unlike all other Bluetooth speakers and is more like true wireless earphones. The sound is beautiful and enchanting and I will definitely be keeping 2 of these.
I tested battery life by using one as a soundbar plugged into my TV. I set the eq to high bass and after 9 hours of the TV being on at quite high volumn my battery indicator shows a drop of quarter.
I have not yet managed to use these long enough to run them out. Unlike to Sony xb32 which I ran out in 5 hours and which lost 50% battery without even being on… (I have 2 of the Sony’s and both are the same)
The soundcore are more the UE boom3 in terms of battery. They just seem to keep going.
In terms of soundcore sound. I have found myself setting a personal eq setting with bass set to plus 5db, miss pretty much at +1 and upper treble at 0 with treble at plus 4… V shaped but with the 1-5kh being lowest as I feel there is a boost there.
150hz about +4db – 250hz at +3db to retain some warmth without introducing boom
I don’t find any of the presets particularly pleasing but if I had to pick one it would be heavy as the others sound somewhat thin…. I am not a bass head by any stretch but like a natural sound….
I also found that one speaker plugged into my 3.5mm cable from the TV will still allow signal to be sent to my second soundcore motion plus creating a stereo pair from a 3.5mm into one of the speakers…. Brillia
Only been using this for a day but first impressions are excellent. It’s quite weighty but not overly so but seems to be a very well built bit of equipment. The sound output has been great during the listening today and the controls on top are good too.
I can’t really comment on battery life after such short use – have rated 5/5 on that for now but will revise if needed.
The app works well – took me a little while to figure out how to add the speaker in but received some excellent advice from someone on the community forum.
Instructions provided are basic and minimal – no words used in an attempt to be language independent. There is a multi-lingual manual online for download.
Sounds great battery life is very good. It has a very solid well-made feel. It’s not something I would carry around but I bought it for the kitchen and garden so it works for me. Bluetooth set up was fast and has remained connected at all times. I am very pleased with this purchase.
Great speaker. Much bigger than the Anker Soundcore Boost i was replacing, wouldn’t put it in my carryon bag. Not as bassy, but a fuller sound.
Pros:
– Feels solid, good quality, I like Anker products.
– Good sound and it can be quite loud.
– Quite portable and compact. Not really heavy for what it delivers.
– Using for calls, mike have great sensitivity you can talk really far from it.
– Possibility to chose colors.
Cons:
– I bought a pair of these to have the chance to use the TWS. It kind of sucks 🙁 That is the 4 stars. Give it 3 would not be fair though. The latency with the source of sound in TWS is awful. And they have to be really close to work, not just like you can have one of each in every side of the room. Sometimes they lose synch too 🙁 . It is ok for regular desktop stereo experience, but the latency is still there. If you listen to music (not video) then it is fine.
– Too much bass for me, even with Bass mode off. That is just personal taste.
– The top is a magnet for fingerprints.
Overall they are fine for my needs. Only the TWS was quite disappointing. Anyway I am keeping both.
Bought to replace my Soundcore Boost that finally gave up.
Very good speaker for the money, very loud and clear once you mess with the EQ a bit.
Only cons I found were battery life which could be better for it’s size, as competitors are offering 20h+ and the fact that it’s a massive fingerprint magnet.
First off I’ll say if you’re looking for a good quality BT speaker for the garden, kitchen or frankly anywhere. Stop, you’ve found it.
The sound quality is phenomenal for the size of the device, which makes sense as they’ve managed to fit 2 tweeters, 2 mid drivers and a bass radiator in there.
Unlike others in this category that would have you believe bass equals quality, the Motion+ can represent the lows/miss and highs individually and it separates them all beautifully over a very wide sound stage, afforded mainly by the tweeters being on the corners. Don’t get me wrong though for it’s size it can thump pretty well, but it never drops detail in doing so.
Download the application, set it to Custom EQ and play with the settings, there’s lots of examples on Google to help you. Worth doing as I personally have the Bass Up feature off and run my own settings.
Build quality seems excellent, reassuringly heavy.
I spoke of the size earlier in the review, but I was surprised by how big the device is, it’s definitely not small compared to other speakers I’ve had in the past. That being said its shape means it is highly portable in a back pack for a weekend etc.
Very happy with the purchase.
I had not heard this before buying, but I have been impressed with all the other anker equipment I brought especially power banks, so I knew the battery/charger would be good in the speaker. There connectivity is good with smart devices I own of there’s so I was confident their Bluetooth tech would be good.
A friend owned the smaller older version of it and it sounded good.
This version motion+ is seriously good.
It drops when playing dance/DnB in a room and fills the garden and a mates workshop no problem.
I been listening to some of the classics pink Floyd, eagles T Petty and they as good as I’ve heard them sound. Rich deep sharp and if it’s too deep turn off the extra bass or change the setting using there app.
The app works great, I like to play with the levels but you don’t need to use it, but I’ve been buying stereo equipment for 35 years and love to twiddling the knobs.
Two friends have heard it, one brought one there and then the other saved it in this app to show the missus.
I have been using this with youtube/FB via iPhone and hi-res Walkman Nw-a55
This is my first ever review and I might have gone on a bit..
Quality speaker highly recommended
Quite simply this is incredible for its size and cost. I’d watched a few youtube reviews before buying and i’d advise you do the same and form your own opinion. Check out ‘Oluv’s Gadgets’ youtube channel as this guy has the most in-depth reviews i’ve seen and he uses binaural microphones so you get a real feel of how they sound (you need to wear headphones) to get the full effect of his reviews.
I originally was going to buy the Bose Soundlink Mini 2 as these were the benchmark in Bluetooth speakers and due to their popularity over the years seemed to be the go-to choice. However the Bose Soundlink 2 hasn’t changed its design and construction since 2015 when it was launched and technology has moved on a lot since then so its now way behind the newer brands.
As such the Bose is no longer the must have speaker.
I’m not a hi-fi boffin by any means, but i DJ, listing to music everyday, and appreciate high end well made kit in other areas of music.
This little speaker is without a doubt the best value music item i’ve ever bought. The sound is quite simply brilliant and the unit is very solid. No rattles or cheap plastic feeling.
I used to have a set-up of Mini Rigs with their sub and two speakers at a cost of nearly 400 and used to take them to festivals and on holiday but all the wires were a faff. I played the Amazon waiting game kept checking the price of this Soundcore unit it got one when it was at a promo of 70. A few weeks later bought another for a family member for 75 so its worth keeping an eye on the price as they come up and down all the time.
The sound is even more improved when its placed in the corner of a room. I have mine hung up in the corner of a workshop and the bass port at the rear really comes into its own in a corner as the boucnes back off the wall. I’ve also compared it a Bose Soundlink 2 and its knocks it out of the park!
Even at full RRP I wouldn’t hesitate to say this is still great value. My minirigs were subsequently sold after buying this. Im probably going to buy another soon and pair them up too.
I also bought a Soundcore Boost at the same time as this purchase for my mum and this too is incredible and was 40. It looks more suited to sit on a bookshelf with its nice cloth speaker front whereas this Motion + model is more industrial looking.
Overall an amazing product delivers way more then products costing double.
Awesome product, sound, and build quality. “Sound effin Core”. A little heavy in the hands for some, maybe, but this shows the build material quality! I bring it with me mostly everywhere even while cycling! People in Cars will be looking at you like, where is that beautiful sound coming from! and why is that so loud! lol
Some key points below:
It comes with a base sound output, that can then be changed to the end-users taste, depending on their sound preferences. (All users do not hear frequencies the same so its good to get that option – lesson 101).
The Bass and db output from that small piece of Equipment!! I cannot use it to full power as my housemate complained about noise!
Do tweak the Equaliser! I got Higher Bass out of it than the pre-button Bass.
I watch movies on it via Bluetooth, Laptop > HDMI TV which is also connected to my phone via dual Bluetooth so I can control the volume and equalizer!
Options are still available on Windows 10 (my OS) where environmental variables can be set with further effects but I prefer the Equaliser App!!
May get some fingerprint marks after some use, but hey, feel free to wash it in the sink! Its IPX7
Planning to Buy a second one for linking and trying the surround for movies and parties!
Nothing to dislike at all I bought two soundcore motion+ and for the size the sound that they produce is unbelievable I didn’t have high expectations for it but I can say I was blown away by them plus I redeemed a promotion code from Amazon and got 60 off at the checkout an absolute bargai
I bought this speaker to listen to music while I am working out in my garage. Before I bought this, I bought a pair of soundcore liberty 2 pro wireless headphones, which went beyond my expectation after being disappointed by a much expensive Sennheiser True Wireless head phones. The sound quality of this speaker is very good for its price, which is absolutely what expected for a soundcore product.
Two things to mention though:
1) the speaker is bigger than it looks in the pictures, and it is heavier than I expected. but considering the battery it may need, the weight is justifiable. Having said that, it is still very portable.
2) the pre-set equilizer modes are not very useful. The default mode is a bass mode, which does not provide sufficient bass. I found the best way is to adjust the equilizer manually using the soundcore app, to have a V shape setting, which enhanced both bass and tremble. The final result was so much better.
The only thing better than the sound quality is the customer support. Anker really sets the bar for feedback and support. By far the best customer support I’ve ever received. One speaker broke after 6 months and they just send me a new one to replace it. Wow !
The speaker really benefits from a EQ via the app. Which are saved to the speaker, so it’s a case of set and forget.
For 100 I’d say wait till it’s on sale. You can quite easily get 15-20 off on Amazon deals.
Broad stereo great detail (only beaten by minirig’s) and even better if you buy two.
Imaging for wireless speakers very impressive. It doesn’t sound lost or thin in outdoor listening either, but for that I’d have to recommend getting two.
The only thkng I can see wrong is the emission of a battery indicator on the speaker. Which is a bit frustrating. Your phone will show an estimated %, but while using two you can only view the battery of one speaker at a time.
TLDR;
Brilliant sound, even better if you pair two.
Rugged, enough battery for a BBQ
Outstanding customer support !
Very good speaker for the price, better than jbl charge and even jbl extreme, goes very loud without distortion, and sound very good on lows, mids and highs, where the jbl’s are bass heavy and muddy on highs. They are able to be stereo paired with a second, which if you get them when on a deal is still cheaper than one jbl. And sound amazing in stereo paired.
This is my 3rd Anker speaker over many years. Always been impressed and happy considering I am a bit over the top when it comes to sound quality they have never let me down. This speaker delivers a great bass, mid and brilliant top end which my past Ankers all though I was happy with I always wished for a bit more top end. And this speaker does it all. Battery only charged it once and have hammered it and it is still n 80 percent. Well worth a purchase if you dont want to pay over the odds but still want a premium speaker at a more affordable price.
I bought 1 to compare against my Sony XB30 and i was not disappointed at all, infact i was blown away with the sound, crisp and a nice kick to the bass and slightly louder than the XB, so… when i seen the Anker Motion Plus on sale i said i wondered what 2 linked together sounded like, let me tell you folks the sound is huge, very very loud and powerful enough to feel the bass about 7 feet away, not to be compared to a 10″ subwoofer you know, but really happy i have 2 now, it’s an awesome speaker and you definitely won’t be disappointed.
A fantastic speaker with quality room filling sound & good base when you need it. It’s a little heavy for traveling with adding 1Kg to your baggage.
My only gripe is that when both my phone & another device are both connected, the the notifications from my phone interupt whatever sound is playing from the other device, meaning I have to turn off my phone Bluetooth & remember to turn on later.
Bought this speaker on a whim however, after using it, it has become a favourite outlet for my music. The convenience of being able to be free from ‘fixed’ cable connection (audio and power) is wonderful. The sound quality is exceptional and I would be happy to use it versus my usual fixed music system – which I do use to save wear&tear on the battery supply. It has my vote of recommendation!
It took a while for me to get used to the sound coming from this speaker because it was so clear. I thought it was too bright but it isn’t, it is clear. It is not bass heavy but there is enough bass which you hear more than you feel. If you turn the speaker away from you it reduces the treble and becomes “more” bassy. Some music sounds better like this.
The mids and highs are great and the bass is not muddy at any volume. Voice is crisp.
I think this speaker is best listened to at about 70% volume any higher and it can get tiring depending on the music.
As a pair it would be excellent I believe but then you are talking 200. You can do a similar job I think with a pair of Earfuns for 100.
It is a heavy chunky speaker so not too portable.
There is lag on Youtube therefore lip sync is a problem. I hope this is fixable with firmware.
Bought for use in the car and garden, when the sun decides to return to England!!
First impressions of this device were favourable, good weight and build quality. Initially connected to my daughter’s phone and paired immediately. Sound quality excellent. Next day tried dropping that connection and linking to my phone, this is where problems began. My Huawei p20pro just would not see the Bluetooth speaker. After googling and many different settings changes, found show Bluetooth devices with no name, and finally picked up the motion+. Probably a phone issue, but hope this helps others. Love the speaker, sound quality is superb across all genres, and as the as suggests, loud enough to fill a room easily!
Lovely speaker great sound quality when settings are customised (youtube for settings) The speaker i recieved first was faulty made a hissing noise which affected the quality of music played through it so contacted anker and they sent a replacement top service cant recommend anker enough A* company. For the price of this speaker for the sound quality is amazing. Highly recomend. Look forward to buying more products from them.
What’s not to like. 2 Drivers, 2 Tweeters combined with a passive radiator you get a stereo room filling sound with good punch. 30W is loud to fill any room. You need to download the app and customise the equalizer to get the best out of this unit.
I have played different kinds of music and can say the Bass, vocals and highs are very well balanced. You will not be disappointed with the build quality as it has a premium feel and for the price it deserves to be right up there.
Grabbed one at the deal price 64.99. It puts all your JBL’s Sony’s and UE’s to shame. Sony comes ever slightly close to the Motion+ when it comes to experience but JBL’s and UE’s sound like they are always placed in an empty earthen pot. No offence to JBL fans, just my opinion.
Haven’t tested the water resistant property of this speaker as I don’t intend to take it to the beach or swimming pool anytime soon.
This has become my main speaker now as I can carry it around enjoying the sweet music.
My gripe with it will be the controls on the top are hard to see in the dark. A panel to illuminate them would have been a good solution. Lack of battery indicator like they have in soundcore boost.
But overall I love it and if you are looking for a speaker under 100, this is the best one yet and if you can grab one in a deal like I did, Bob’s your uncle!.
Update: Battery does not hold charge for long.ie, if you fully charge today and not use the speaker for 1 week it will be dead!!
This speaker is great, it gives a decent amount of bass but not too bloated, boomy or 1 noted. The mids and highs aren’t far off in detail, edge and tonal balance from studio monitor earphones/speakers or hires stuff I’ve heard. Having said all that, I do use custom eq to tweak it a bit to get that sound I want.
I gave it less stars for portability just because I think it could do with a carry strap, some way of hanging it up or a camera stand thread in the bottom maybe.
Overall I enjoy this speaker.
A honest customers review.
If you don’t want to read the review here’s the take-home: It’s a great product, but its not perfect. Its worth the money at 70.
Backstory; After 5 years of faithful service I was ready to give up my JBL Charge 1 and look for a more modern speaker. I was considered options like the Flip 5, Charge 4, Bose revolve mini, tribit xboom and UE Booms. I finally bought this speaker after various youtuber recommendation.
Sound
The sound quality is where this speaker excels. The bass is clean and booming. It doesn’t distort at high volumes. Highs and mids are clear. It fills up a medium/large size room nicely. I’m not an audiophile but lots of youtubers with good audio understanding have praised it. You do have to download the Soundcore app and tweak the EQ to really get the best from this speaker. I may be wrong, but I highly doubt there’s a better sounding speaker at this price point.
Design
This is where you have to make the compromise for the speaker to maintain its price point. The design is very dated and looks like a speaker from the early 2000s (especially with the metal grill). The rubber texture is an oil and fingerprint magnet. The speaker grills have lots of holes that makes it very easy for sand and dirt to slip in and ger stuck. So I would not use this speaker at the beach/park. The buttons are tactile, but they are all in black and difficult to see in the dark. It comes in only black, so it isn’t very eye catching. Overall the design is just plain and doesn’t look as premium as other speakers.
Features
They are IPX7 waterproof BUT I personally wouldn’t use it for that (Just to be on the safe side). Its USB C which is great. Bluetooth 5.0. AUX input. APTX support for high res audio. Supports stereo pairing. So all things considered you do get very 2019 specs which a lot of speakers don’t give at this price.
Battery Life
I use my speakers heavily. They’re probably used for about 6 hours a day at about 60% volume. I get 2 days use and charge it overnight. I think that’s average for a speaker so I’m happy with it but I would of course like better.
Weight
The speaker IS on the heavy side (just over a kg). But it’s a nice weight that make it feel premium. It doesn’t quite compete with the flip 5 in terms of portability but its definitely on par with the Charge 4s. I mostly use my speakers in my room and around the house, so the weight is just fine but you would feel its presence in a bag pack.
Conclusion — Is it worth it?
Its not that simple. Its obvious Anker/Soundcore has had to make sacrifices to keep this price point. In saying that they’ve made the right sacrifices. The sound quality is excellent and while the design isn’t phenomenal, it is good enough. I purchased this speaker for 69 (you are bound to get this price eventually as there’s almost always a sale/voucher) and at this price it probably is unmatched.
If you buy this at a 100’s the lines are a little more blurred. It is still a good speaker, don’t get me wrong. But its possible to also get options from JBL and bose when they’re on sale. So it is possible to get other good sounding speakers (maybe not as good as the motion+) but with nicer designs. So its up to you decide how you use your speakers and what matters to you.
I use my speaker mostly at home and sometimes outside. Sound quality was the most important factor with design being secondary. With these requirements in mind and at price tag of 69, the speakers ARE unbeatable, and I highly recommend them. But having said that, there may be other speakers that are better suited to you at the 100 mark (or cheaper speakers if sound isn’t that important).
I have been blown away by the sound quality of this Bluetooth speaker, before this I had a Sony speaker, and it was good, but for the same price I think the overall quality of the music played thru the anker is a lot better, maybe not as much bass (but still enough) but I can hear parts of songs that I couldn’t hear on other speakers. Combine the sound with a very good battery life, and it’s waterproofing, and it really is a heck of a lot of speaker for the money
Absolutely love these speakers ! I looked long and hard for decent units and after watching oluv on you tube comparing and beating all the big names jbl, bose, etc and beating them I bought two , I got them 25%discount so for 140 for the pair it’s good value and they sound amazing ! I have a big open plan living space 12/5m and they sound great but they do an amazing job of sounding big but lacking what you’d get from bugger capacity units but give them credit for what they are they truly sound amazing especially in stereo with two ,in a smaller room they are more than enough , they have a great full rich sound until last two volume bars when they still sound good but the bass is clipped a bit but only slight distortion on a few tracks but they are a small unit so do an amazing job ! If a sub could be added they would turkey fill the bigger space and sound awesome ,All in all I’m giving 5 stars and 4 for sound because the stereo pairing drops occasionally which is annoying but not too often so hopefully there will be an update from anker ?
Sounds Excellent
I’ve had this speaker for just over two weeks after reading some good reviews on youtube and being dissatisfied with a JBL flip 4 which is more money than the Anker (when it is on offer). I own a minirig v1 setup which is on another level, but that is too big for work and a pain carting around the house with the wires and the plugging and unplugging for casual listening. So I bought this and have been very pleased. The sound from this speaker is clear and because of its ability to play bluetooth aptX high definition quite detailed, with good highs and enough bass( not distorted or pushing it too far) Its especially good with vocals and guitars. I like the fact it has things missing from other speakers ( usb c and bluetooth 5) and they do update the firmware unlike some. Yes the coating is a finger grease magnet but no biggie for me. I have found it cuts a second or so from the beginnings of youtube videos but maybe a update will sort that. It also still throws the custom Eq settings after charging or sometimes randomly when turning on, even after the last firmware update, still some more work needed on that point, but its not to much hassle to reset. More importantly there seems to be a problem with two units retaining the same custom settings when paired up, again hopefully fixed with a update, I’m going to put off considering getting a second until that is fixed. Battery life seems good but I have not timed it. Something I’ve noticed about charging, and maybe this is why some people are reviewing less battery life than expected, when the speaker reports 100% to my phone it is still charging for quite a while until it automatically stops charging, I think the app reports to the phone incorrectly because it shuts down when still showing 20% left on my phone and continues charging when it shows full ( there is no way of checking without the app or Bluetooth notification). Top marks for customer service when I ran into a issue.
Edit two years later and my unit has developed hiss and noise, quite loud when unit is not playing and decreases as unit is left on but still quite loud. I don’t know if this unit is showing signs of failing but two years is not old and only moderate use. I will post back if it gets worse.
Please download the app and use the custom EQ, very different sound experience.
impressive for the price and size!
I used this at an last minute office party for 100+ guests, everyone was very impressed and was exactly the right level.
(Enough to hear but enough to talk over)
APTX HD worked great, tried some 192kbs tracks and worked fine in case that’s your thing.
Well, what a speaker this is, utterly beautiful sound from a relatively small package. Now I have multiple bluetooth speakers from the tribit range to tronsmart force and element mega, through to the LG pk7’s, amongst others, and this bad boy trumps the lot.
Out of the box, this sounds better than most, tinker with the custom equalizer on the included application and its performance is transformed into something very special indeed. They say this is 30 watts, but 30 watts of extreme quality. Easily loud enough to propel a house party, if you need more you can tws these up and have two of them playing, which I am seriously considering were it not for a fault in the app. In that if you use custom equalizer settings on your phone say then move over to your tablet the equalizer settings are lost. If soundcore can sort that little issue out then this speaker would be the king.
Edit: the faultnin the app was resolved many months ago, now an even betrer function.
Overall, I’m happy and the sound is very good, so it’s a keeper.
The Good (+):
+ if you use the multi-band EQ app, you can achieve a sound that suits your tastes. Without adjustment, the default EQ isn’t great. These speakers are usually either far too bassy, lose mid-range vocals, not bassy enough, or some other issue. This is not perfect, but can be tweaked via the app such that I am happy (for the price/size)
+ wide frequency response and a very clear, revealing, sound. It picks out detail in music that other speakers (at this price) have not revealed. Very good.
+ it has a much lower level of background hiss / noise than others I’ve tried, so is good for quiet listening and quiet passages of music. This has been a big problem for me in the past (a Tribit MaxxSound+ I tried was bad in this respect).
+ not too big for what it does (but not a super-light device for taking out and about)
+ styling not too bad, could be more minimal for my tastes, but certainly better than some of the horrible designs and better than Anker’s earlier stuff. And no silly lighting effects.
+ excellent battery life and the battery status can be seen on the app. However, see a ‘negative’ below about the app’s battery level report and how it shuts down.
+ firmware can be updated, so has the potential for futher improvement/refinement.
+ can be paired with another identical model to make a wide stereo setup of 30W per channel. Have not tried this, but quite tempted in the future maybe.
The not-so-good (-):
– it fades sound in when a track is first played from silent, so you miss the first half-second or so of the song. This is really annoying and I have almost considered returning it because of it, but decided that I’ll live with it. No other bluetooth speaker that I have owned has done this. It may be there to protect the speaker drivers against high-volume surges or something, but it’s fundamentally a bad thing for the listener. I do hope that Anker can at least drastically reduce the fade-in time in a future firmware update (ideally remove it altogether).
– the speaker does not warn when the battery is low (as all other speakers I’ve tried do, via a beep or something) and the music just stops with about 15-20% of battery power still showing in the app.
– the rubbery finish of the top, back and bottom shows fingerprints very easily and looks unpleasant once these are showing. They can be wiped off with a bit of scrubbing, just not a good design aspect.
– start-up and shut-down tones are nasty and naff. I wish they were just a simple beep. Just bad and goes against the aim of this speaker to be a high-end, high-quality speaker.
– bit awkward to get the USB lead inserted for charging on the side as it is recessed quite a long way.
Other:
* it’s not a lightweight speaker for people who are looking for something to carry out and about. Check the weight to see if it’s right for you. No problems moving from room to room at home, though, it’s small and portable.
First impressions out of the box, its’s a solid piece of kit.
It feels like a quality product, well put together.
Pairing was very quick (iPhone XR on latest iOS) and seems stable so far.
Sound quality is excellent, nice and clear while still having decent volume.
It will easily fill a room with sound.
Battery life could be better for a speaker of this size, other brands have longer battery lives at this price point, but it’s certainly good enough for a weekend away without charging.
Overall, I’m very happy with it.
Bought this to replace my impressive Anker 3143 20W speaker as it is now 4 years old and the battery is starting to fail.
I bought a competitors speaker based on very favourable reviews but was kicking myself as the sound quality was to say the least very poor, so back it went and the search was on once again.
I was back to looking at Anker once again as I have several of their smaller bluetooth speakers, earbuds, and various sized portable powerbank chargers.
I looked at the Soundcore Motion + 30W speaker as it seemed to tick all my boxes and a bonus was the fact you had access to an Anker app that can set the equalizer and perform speaker firmware updates. This really appealed to me also knowing the sound from my existing speakers is very good.
I bauked at the 100 + price but put it on my watch list. When I noticed a 3% off plus a 35% discount voucher offer I immediately ordered this speaker as at that price it was a no brainer.
Had it a few day now and I’m very impressed.
I’ve set the equaliser to CUSTOM settings and the sound is great. The speaker has a heavy feel and is really well made and looks very impressive.
Can’t comment on the battery life as yet but based on my Anker experience it will be fairly accurate.
I’m once, again a very happy Anker customer…. We’ll done Anke
I bought this to replace my Soundcore Pro+,This one is significantly superior with significantly better sound quality ( Aptx works brilliantly on my Oneplus 7 Pro and Window10 laptop, bluetooth connection quality and range. The only con I could think of is the battery life is shorter than 10hrs especially when using it at higher volume. But at 30W this speaker is loud and powerful with very minimal distortion at Max volume which I do not use. Buy this one when its under discount. You won’t be dissapointed but at 99 I probably won’t buy it.
As described, marks easily with even clean hands and can be difficult to find the buttons on the top in less than good light. Hence the four stars. However, the sound is good and has less bass, so is clearer than the other bluetooth speaker in our kitchen. Quite a long battery life.
Wow, the sound I got out this thing is crisp, punchy and clear with no distortion. I’ve only cranked it to half volume so far and it’s still more than enough to fill my rooms with sound. It’s hands down the best speaker I’ve ever owned and blows my mind I can just pick it up and take it with me, and it’s waterproof.
Paired with Anker’s brilliant support I can’t recommend this enough.
If you’re reading this then you already know and I don’t need to convince you any further. You’ve watched Oluv’s binaural recording and seen it blow everything else out of the water. This is quite simply the best value for money portable Bluetooth speaker on the market. It outperforms my 300 Dali Katch with ease. A couple of minor quibbles with the app occasionally. You need to user adjust the EQ to get a flat response as per Oluv’s suggestions to really get it going and indoor speaker placement is important to gain the most pleasing sound for you.
This speaker is great for rock/metal, it’s very clear with amazing detail and it’s easily worth the money but unfortunately I was disappointed with the bass response, the bass rolls off completely at 60hz not 50hz as Anker advertise. The Anker customer service is great tho and they seem to really listen to feedback on their products.
Whoever puts a bad review on this speaker, straight up has no clue what they are talking about. They generally has an old phone or don’t have half a brain to figure out how to connect a simple bluetooth device properly.
Anker supply you with the app which gives you firmware updates, volume control, power control and even equaliser settings. Out the box the speaker does sound a little flat and the standard presets are pretty boring honestly. But with the chance to customise your own Equaliser settings, you can get a speaker that sounds like a miniature HIFi unit, the sound stage is huge for it’s size and demolish’s all competition right up to the 200 mark.
You’d be a fool to believe alot of these average Joe’s, that have no clue about audio. I don’t care what speaker you give me, even if it’s over 1000 if I can make it sound significantly better with an equalizer, then yes I’m going to use it despite how good it is.
If you get this speaker then play around with it, find the right settings for you and if there is an unfortunate issue such as a rattle or difficulty with the speaker, then just contact Anker they are very friendly and will help with an exchange or go through some troubleshooting with you.
You can’t expect this speaker to be 100% perfect like alot of these morons believe it to be. Despite what anyone says, it’s hands down the best speaker in this price range.
Superb speaker.
There’s only one negative, straight out the box with the eq flat it sounds a bit thin.
Check out the review on oluv’s gadgets youtube channel and set the eq in the app as he has it.
Makes a huge difference!!
Build quality is excellent and because of that it’s heavy.
Love it!
Just got this speaker yesterday, replacing my trusty Anker A3143 which had served me very well for hotel rooms etc.
This is a different league.
The eq adjustments on the app are an added bonus.
I’m hoping a hard case becomes available soon, as it will be mostly used for day trips etc.
Haven’t had time to assess the longevity and battery life yet, but so far it’s 5 stars from me on sound quality and volume alone.
Update: the firmware has been updated and the speaker now remembers the last equaliser setting.
Have used the more since the last review and am really pleased with it. Increased from 4 to 5 stars now.
Bought it with the 25 discount about a month ago and like the unit. Sound quality is good versus my Bose Soundlink Mini unit. The bass is better at higher volume but doesn’t dominate the sound like the Sony XB31/41 units which I had to return and replace with this unit.
Being able to change the equalizer makes a big difference. I like the ‘heavy’ setting for the latest hits. Only remark is that it seems to lose this setting every time the unit is switched off so am hoping that this can be fixed with a firmware update in the near future.
All in all worth the money in my opinion for the 75 I paid for it.
I purchased this with the Anker promotional discount (75.99) & I’m beyond satisfied.
Had it pumping out music whilst trimming the garden with some reggae and hip-hop. The bass is excellent and so far the battery life is great (and I haven’t even charged it yet. Straight out the box).
My wife has a BOSE Soundlink and this is just as good if not better (way better IMO). I can’t Imagine what 2 would sound like but I’m tempted to get another to pair it with.
Thank you Anke
Really impressive sound quality which is pretty much guaranteed with the entire Anker speaker range. The one disappointment about this is the soft-touch finish to the casing which marks very easily – even just greasy finger prints are not easy to wipe off. But the most important thing about any speaker is the sound quality and this latest offering certainly doesn’t disappoint. I went on the Anker website and got a 25 discount code which made the price 75 – and for that, this is a real bargain.
Epic product! To say it fills a room is an understatement. It’s a Bose killer that’s for sure. Bass is rich, but not too much. And with the adjustable eq via the app, would be suited to any ear.
Love it. Every type of music I’ve played has sounded absolutely incredible and it can go very loud without losing any quality. The app for smartphones can adjust EQ.
My motion+ arrived this afternoon. After using the soundcore boost I was confident this should be a good speaker especially for 100 quid. It has a good weight to it and feels solid. There are a few silly start up tones, but pairing was easy, it had 75%battery and I started listening to random songs Via my P30 Pro. The bass up turned on, I wasn’t immediately impressed with the bass. It was ok though, and the mids and high end were very clear. So I proceeded to download the app, and have a play with that. There isn’t too much on the soundcore app, software updates, power cycling but most importantly, an equaliser. So I cycled through the presets and then got to custom, where I dropped the mids and highs a bit and cracked up the low frequencies a bit. Already sounding fuller, without being muted on the mids. Then I went into my phone’s music player sound settings. I had my P30 left on music mode with focused selected and a flat equaliser. So I switched it to Open sound, and again tweeted the equaliser in my stock music app. Raising the lows again and slightly raised the highs. Now the sound was great. Good bass with nice clear vocals and highs. It also went pretty loud. So I decided to compare it to my Sony xb30 in its current equaliser settings. This speaker has never failed to impress me for its size. And in comparison, the Sony sounded almost muffled. Possibly still more bass with the Extra bass turned on, but the mids and highs were almost non existent. Even retweeking the equaliser, I couldn’t get it to sound as all-round clear as the motion+. And when I was switching between the 2 speakers with the volume higher, the Sony kinda sounded distorted compared to the soundcore in bass. I have a few other speakers I need to compare it to, xb41, JBL charge 3 and minirigs, but so far I’m pretty impressed with the soundcore. I believe you can stereo pair 2 of these together, which I’m sure would sound great. I will keep using the soundcore to break it in more and then try it again against other speakers. I’m glad I benefited from the 25 quid discount from Anker, but for 100 it seems a tad steep. If Anker could make a dedicated portable sub (like minrig), I have no doubt that 2 of these and a sub, would blow the minirigs away. But for now it’s still just slightly lacking in bass for my liking, although it can be improved alot with tweaks as I said. I can’t comment on battery life yet, but will update as I can.
