Can I make my own bakes in the Cake Factory/use a recipe from the internet in Cake Factory?
Yes, there is a manual mode for those who wish to try making their own creations. Ensure that you adjust the quantities accordingly and that the moulds are not overfilled. If any problems, call our customer service on 0345 602 1454.
The cakes seem to come out a bit pale – is this normal?
The programmes on Cake Factory are perfectly balanced to have soft cakes and therefore, even if some are not as brown as expected, they still taste delicious and perfectly cooked.
How big is this appliance?
The product dimensions are 335 x 305 x 195mm (D x W x H). It’s about the average size of a bread bin.
Are the moulds and baking tray dishwasher safe?
The non-stick baking tray is dishwasher safe, but we suggest conditioning this after washing like this. We recommend handwashing the silicon moulds with hot, soapy water. If you put them in the dishwasher, put them on the top shelf on a cooler cycle.
My silicon mould still feels a bit greasy after cleaning, why is this?
Silicone bakeware is non-stick because it doesn’t absorb any oils or grease, it leaves them on the surface to allow food to be lifted out. So after cleaning, a they may still feel a little greasy which is completely normal.

Super – operates as a small oven and does things from cakes to baked food!
This is an amazing gadget for people like me who are not really skilled in the kitchen. I have been using the cake factory since January 21 to bake simple cakes and muffins and i have achieved fantastic results! The recipes book is very good as well as the app.
Wanted one of these for ages and have been waiting for it to come down to a better price. Nice to be able to make some cakes and not to have to watch the oven. My granddaughter (age 9) loves it to.
Wow what a fantastic machine this is highly recommended great results used it twice on day it came expensive but better results than oven and no heating up can even melt chocolate in i
I cannot believe this is so accurate in terms of cooking. I have tried several recipe and the cakes are so well cooked and moist. They are delicious. I am a hobby baker so not an expert but not a newby either and I love using it. My children also love using it. I really recommend it for anyone who likes to bake.
Absolutely fabulous bit of kit whoever invented this!
Aside from my dishwasher, this is my joint favourite piece of equipment. I was not going pay 250 for it so waited for a sale at 120 free postage- benefits of prime.
It arrived today, box was a bit dinged but this did not affect the product so far as i can currently tell.
Loads of recipes to get through with a book and an app. Now I’ve tried baking in a halogen oven and a conventional traditional oven and i can honestly say, i can’t wait to see the results because ive failed in everything so far do with baking aside from cupcakes and biscuits and with this gadget there’s so many things to try. Will keep an update if i can but so far totally stoked everything works
We dithered for a long time over whether to buy this ‘glorified oven’ or not, but went for it in the end and have zero regrets. In fact, the opposite. We have had so much fun trying new recipes, things we wouldn’t bother to bake in our main oven, and they’ve all turned out great. One thing I do like is the smaller batches, so I’m not left with 24 cupcakes to eat.
The extra recipes on the app are great and I have just discovered that if I change the language on the app to French, it opens up a lot of new recipes, which let’s face it always sound better in French, don’t they? And there seem to be more savoury recipes there.
So overall I’m very happy we took the plunge. Just wish it had been a tad cheaper, but it’s bought now and we are just enjoying it for what it is.
We got this for Christmas and it’s great. I use my normal cake recipe(wasn’t too keen on their basic sponge cake) to make a sponge cake and it cooks it lovely in about 30 mins. It would normally take that in my normal oven so I am happy with the time. It comes out cooked and I know it will be done in that time so I’m not having to check every few mins near the end to make sure it’s not over cooked.
I like it and will use it when ever I do cakes but for the price (if it hadn’t been an Christmas gift) I wouldn’t buy it myself as it’s too expensive.
Very easy to use my 13 year old makes cakes daily with it following the easy to understand recipe book included.
Bought as a gift for an avid baker in the family! Brilliant little machine, very easy to use with perfect results every time! The only negative would be the colour of the machine if I had to say anything at all.
No pictures unfortunately as the cakes don’t hang around long enough for me to take one!
I thought I would like it when I ordered it and it surpassed all my expectations. Not just for cakes, I have made rolls, apple and rhubarb crumble as well and have saved many from the app to try out.
Best buy from my kitchen…even cooks my tomatoes for the soup/pasta… i use it as an oven sometimes but the recipes that come with it, delicious..everything comes out perfect..
General amazing. so easy to clean and makes amazing cakes.
the app could do with some work, but you can use any recipe in the machine and just adjust your timings.
The tefal cake factory comes with 3 moulds. You can purchase more which I will be doing as there are so many recipes on the app!!
Once you are confident enough with the cake factory you can free style! And go all out. My daughter who is 17 and the baker of the family loves the cake factory. It makes us all feel like professionals.
Well worth the money. This is a firm favourite in our kitchen 🙂
With lockdown on, my daughter made her little sisters birthday cake with the cake factory! It was amazing!! We are never shop buying cakes again and are even rustling up scones for breakfast daily like a pro!
The cake factory is a bit expensive but wow, it’s worth it. Very easy to use…just whizz up the mixture and divide into the provided moulds. You get muffin, mini cakes and a large rectangular tin. Simple digital programming with a manual option gives perfect results every time. I’ve made savoury muffins, fruit cakes and banana muffins and the machine only arrived yesterday! Downloaded the recipe app which has loads to try so I’m going to need to go on a major diet but the results are lovely, light cakes that are difficult to produce in a standard oven.
Great for a busy family who want homemade cakes without the hastle.
Inucluded cook book is very handy and easy to use. Easy to see display and handy finishing beep when done.
This product is a real must!
You can bake you own recipes too, mine have come out even better than when using our oven.
I would highly recommend this product.
It was well packaged on arrival.
Wow, everyone needs a Cake Factory in their life, even more so during these times at home, this is Tefal giving us in house entertainment for all the family! We can all bake with confidence and no stress. The App provides many different recipes and we have tried plenty. I can totally recommend the chocolate lava cakes and meringues; they are so easy to make we have also purchased the other moulds to expand our baking repertoire!
Main disadvantages would be the size of the machine doesn’t allow it to do tall cakes and its hard to remove the main form from the machine with gloves when its hot.
This machine has amazed me!!
It makes the fluffy cakes ever. Recipes in the app are so easy to follow & everything I’ve made has come out prefect
I use it to make my own recipes too & they have also come out wonderful
Pricey but well worth it.
I bought this mainy to cook with my grandkids and save oven I’ve also done mini shepherds pies to I no its for cakes lol but most of time it sits looking at me. If your alone like me with a small place then it’s grea
My wife likes it and can’t wait to use it as we are having the kitchen done at mome
Great little cake maker … kids love the home made cakes in their pack lunch
Love cakes and love baking…and I sort of like this too…except it really is one of those products you never knew you never needed…and I really don’t think I need it.
It works fine, but not the same as baking in the oven.
It also takes up a fair bit of space….I’d recommend this if you don’t have a conventional oven to use, but for me, it doesn’t improve my baking enough to use repeatedly.
As soon as you get the Cake Factory Machine out of its packaging you are immediately struck by its attractive looks being fuschia and white. It certainly makes a statement.
Apart from its good looks it is very well made and comes with 2 recipe books plus an instruction book. The recipe books themselves are well laid out with times of preparation, cooking time and what program to us.
There are 5 automatic programs i.e.. Cakes to share; individual cakes, lava cake, meringue program, melting chocolate program and manual program. I have used most of the programs except the meringue and manual and all worked well. On the display are diagrams so you can easily see which program you have chosen which will flash and you then press ok. It will tell you on the recipe how long the cooking time will be so you just use the plus or minus buttons and then press start. Once started the cooking time which is illuminated counts down and when it has finished cooking a buzzer will sound.
This machine is very user friendly and you can’t go wrong. The machine does not require pre-heating like an oven and it comes with a non- stick tin, two silicon moulds. One for muffins and one for mini cakes. The cakes once cooked turn out of the tin, moulds, very easily.
The first cake I made was the jam sponge cake and it was only when sampling the cake I realised it had no butter and tasted like packet trifle sponges. I have made other cakes with no failures and have just baked the apple cake see picture which turned out very well nicely browned on the top although not a lot of flavour even though used butter, eggs, flour, apples sugar etc. In fact all the cakes I have made are a bit bland but they still get eaten!
I think this would be a fabulous present for a young person. Very different. It would also be very useful for someone who is perhaps in a bedsit and has limited space.
Allthough I am impressed with this cake factory it will not take the place of a normal oven but then one wouldn’t expect it to. However, I am having lots of fun making cakes in this machine with my young grandson who is very impressed! I think anyone receiving this as a present would be delighted

The Cake Factory arrives with the usual array of instruction manuals, plus a recipe booklet. Without going through a trial and error process, it is difficult to adapt non-proprietary recipes for the Cake Factory, so you are really limited to the rather thin booklet that accompanies the machine. Apparently, there is going to be a recipe app released in December, which I look forward to. I hope there is scope for community uploads, too, so that there is a good supply of interesting recipes.
The Factory comes with a baking tin, and two silicone moulds (mini-loaf and cupcake shaped). I prefer the tin as the conductive properties of the metal mean that the end result browns better (which equals better caramelisation flavours). I hope Tefal release more tins for the Factory in the future, and I’m sure some would like access to a greater variety of moulds.
The Cake Factory is essentially a counter top oven. You mix your ingredients in the usual way, and then bake them in the Factory. There are a number of settings, depending on what’s going in, and a timer function to alert you to when the baking time is complete. There is the facility to easily adjust baking time, if your cake needs a bit more or less time.
I have baked three cakes using the Cake Factory – gingerbread loaves, a yoghurt cake (twice) and the vanilla chocolate marble cake. The gingerbread loaves had a slightly weird texture, although the flavour was good. The yoghurt cake was great, and the marble cake was nice. You do still have to tweak timings, as I guess eggs are always going to be different sizes and measurements somewhat variable. In general, I think the Cake Factory has slightly too-long timings, and I find knocking 5 minutes off produces better results.
I thought this might be a bit of a novelty, but it does streamline the baking process a little, and I do find it easier to knock up a quick cake for afternoon tea using this, rather than my main oven. It would also be a boon if you want to bake pudding at the same time as cooking your roast in your usual oven. Or perhaps for clubs, schools, studio flats, where facilities are at a minimum.
Prepare to do a bit of experimentation with the recipes and baking times, and you may find the Factory useful.
Positives:
I tried some of my favourite recipes [the lemon drizzle muffins made with primary age children and banana & ginger cake] and they turned out very comparable to oven baking;
It can be taken to projects to work with children/groups where ovens are not available … a real positive in my job; and
You have 3 options of bake ware – inner baking pan plus 2 silicone trays.
Negatives:
You have to clean trays in between if you are batch cooking;
The pans/trays are not standard size;
It is not a colour that fits most kitchens … certainly not mine; and
It is a bit gimmicky if you have a good oven.
This is a perfect little item to take into a playgroup or a childs group that has no access to a kitchen with an oven.
Its nicely sized, a bit smaller than a microwave, its fairly light and comes with everything you need to get started. The included recipes are easy to follow and are not a typical cake mix and seem to have been designed to cook in this oven specifically. Now this is a bit of a pain because a standard cake mixture wont really cook properly in this oven. No idea why however.
Do you need it? Of course not. If you have an oven you wont ever need this, but if you have no access to an oven for example if you are in temporary accomodation/hostel/refuge/shared accomodation this will suit you.
The Tefal Cake Factory is quite a large and heavy piece of kitchen equipment so take this into consideration before purchasing — it’s not really one you would want to take up the whole shelf of a precious cupboard when stored.
It comes with two silicone moulds, instructions and recipe book. To start with, I would certainly suggest sticking with the recipes provided before modifying or using your own recipes. It actually bakes quite nicely — the buns are moist and fluffy but are a bit on the pale side. All is evenly cooked and, following the recipe booklet, I’ve not had a single disappointment. For small buns I would have expected it to cook a bit quicker than it does — 30 minutes — which is pretty much the same as a conventional oven. The whole thing is easy to wipe clean afterwards and the silicone moulds just need a wash is warm soapy water.
This has become a favourite with our 12 year old who is able to safely operate the cake maker. She loves having friends over after school and whizzes up a small batch of buns or muffins. Just keep a few tubs of icing handy.
Once mixed, add even amounts to the appropriate silicone tray (the cupcake one needs each slot pushing through before first use) and the programme. It is very user friendly, turn on, press the arrow to go to the relevant programmed (depicted by pictures) and then use the plus or minus to get the right time. The cakes do rise.
At the end, when it beeps, remove from the cake factory (use oven gloves – it will be hot), and set on a cooling tray. I’d be inclined to leave in the silicone for 10 minutes before turning out, as this reduces breakage.
This is suitable for those without an oven, or who live alone. I would experiment with the recipes – I found them slightly heavy on the sugar for my preferences, but that is personal taste. I have been altering recipes for several years now to reduce the sugar content in them (honey or cinnamon work to replace some sugar, as does cardammon).
This is easy to use. You don’t even select the oven temperature. It is a shame that there isn’t a biscuit setting, or biscuit recipes, although if you had some silicone sheet, arguably it would be worth a try, using a cut down recipe and one of the existing programme slots, but setting the timer to 12-15 minutes.
*Follow a recipe from the Tefal recipe book (included).
*Tip the cake batter/pudding mix into the silicone moulds or baking tray included with the oven.
*Set the baking time as described in the recipe book; 5 programmes in total including a manual setting that allows individual heat and timing.
*Close the lid and walk away until the timer goes off.
There aren’t many recipes in the instruction book. Most of them use a mix of plain flour and baking powder, rather than self raising flour, to produce a wet cake batter rather than a traditional sponge mix. Once baked, the small cakes have a dry, firm texture and certainly benefit from icing, chocolate chips or a filling of some type. Fruit crumbles are better and retain more moisture.
Tefal have an App arriving soon with more recipes that will hopefully produce cakes with a better colour and a richer, more indulgent texture. I think some of the dryness is due to the extensive cooking times for the small cakes and meringues which take longer to bake than in a traditional oven.
The cake maker is simple to use and really clean. I only usually need to wash out the moulds and wipe down the outside of the machine. My main ‘niggle’; once raised the lid will smash down on top of the base if you knock it, even lightly, because there’s nothing to hold it upright.
It’s still a bit of a novelty here as we seem to be making cakes most days but there’s no denying that it takes all the guesswork out of it and gives really good results. Was a bit dubious at first as the cakes are all pretty much colourless and I thought our machine was faulty but have since learned that it’s quite normal, if a little weird looking. Once the icing is on though you can’t tell they’re pale underneath. Limited to the shapes dictated by the molds but they’re standard sizes so it’s not too bad.
I wish it wasn’t pink though, it looks like a kids toy on the counter. What’s the thinking behind that? Even all white would have been better.
I hope the novelty doesn’t wear off as it’s becoming a regular family activity to all gather round and decorate our own cakes…
This is an excellent bake oven for family time baking. I do a lot of baking myself and make decorated cakes, but this interested me because it is something that children can get involved with and make small batches of cakes to bake and enjoy eating afterwards. The trays can get a little hot, so you need to take care when baking with younger ones, but overall, the settings are all simple to use and presets are ideal for a perfect bake, albeit somewhat pale. It comes with some recipes to get going and it is best to stick to these until you are used to using the machine and then you can try to create your own bakes.
I actually like this gadget. Yes, it is girlie pink which doesn’t offend me but it might put people off buying this as a gift as men do like to cook too and might not really want a pink one.
You get little bun trays inside and a recipe book to help you. You add your mixture and bake away. I did find that because of the ‘perfect’ cooking times, my cakes came out a bit pale for me but they were cooked.
The parts are easy to clean but obviously wait until it is cook before taking out the trays. Doesn’t take up too mush space in the kitchen either.
It isn’t cheap but it is fun and I think I will use it a lot , it will be fun to use with the granddaughters. It will make a really fun Christmas present for people wanting to cook cakes like me who has the most temperamental oven in the world. I have really thought I’d this 5 star of 4 star and in the end come down on the side of 5 as I really enjoyed using it and my cakes tasted great.
A lot of the recipes are quite simple to follow, so I will be letting my daughter loose after a couple more goes! The Cake Factory is so easy to use, and creates such perfect results, that I will be using it quite a lot from now on.
In the box: the machine, an aluminium baking tin, two silicone mini cake / muffin moulds, a rack to steady the moulds, and some recipe booklets. There is also a leaflet included that states there will be an app of recipes for the Cake Factory available for download in December 2018, so I am looking forward to that.
I have mixed feelings about this cake accessory.
Yes, it does bake fine…although my cakes came out as pale as another reviewer’s.
If your oven is on its last legs, then this should save electricity and irritation.
First off. That is a rather girlie pink trim. It’s not as though boys can’t cook (look at Bake Off) and parents will probably shy away from buying it for male offspring.
It’s not that child friendly…silicone plates are very hot and thay are a bit awkward to lift out.
The cakes take a long time to cook. While it’s nice to make small batches of sweet things- preparation plus 30-40 minutes baking doesn’t really merit the small quantity. Surely kids want to have fun decorating the cooled product?
While researching this item’s accessories, I found the Tefal Snack Collection with its expensive, but multifunction savoury and sweet plates. That cooks small items quickly, more of an on demand machine.
There don’t seem to be any other suitable shaped baking pans and the preprogrammed functions (or freefall manual settings) would make different sized cakes difficult to correctly judge.
It seems a prototype system that isn’t quite there yet.
difficult to keep clean. Worse still, when a careless person damages them with something sharp, they need to be replaced. IF it is possible to acquire suitable replacements for this machine, they are likely to be expensive. Because silicone is a heat insulator, you will notice a lack of browning, compared with conventional cooking.
One further disadvantage is that you will be dependent for some time on using the available recipes as a template, for good results. Also the size of the moulds and cooking programs dictates the size of your cakes.
Cooking times are similar to using a conventional oven. There is a saving in that the cake factory precisely controls preheating.
Value for money may be hard to achieve at the full retail price.
It’s a bit of a “pink” item, but it’s been quite cleverly designed with 2 silicone cake molds that fit in it (one folds down for storage and one can be stored inside), a rack and a metal cake tin for larger cakes. The controls are simple – there are 5 preset programs for melting butter or chocolate, meringues, large cakes, smaller cakes, and fondant centre cakes respectively, as well as the ability to set the timer and to change the temperature manually.
I would actually advise using the recipe book that comes with it rather than going free style whilst getting to know it. The recipes are quite varied and include vegan and gluten free options. Perhaps inevitably they have a bit of a French slant – no bad thing for me. The cakes we have made have come out perfectly cooked albeit a bit anemic-looking, in a small amount of time (30 minutes for muffins, 40 minutes for the apple crumble we have also made) – although meringues take nearly 2 hours.
The tins are quality items. It does all get a bit hot; especial care is needed getting the metal tray out which isn’t easy. I think it is child friendly though as you get good results and it’s also an advantage to have small batches of things rather than 24 fairy cakes that you won’t eat.
So, overall more impressed than I thought I would be. I think I will find the app (due in December) useful for more range of recipes. It is a little dear but surprisingly easy to store. I think if you like cooking you will enjoy this – if you don’t have an oven you can still make cakes, and even if you do this is a good addition.
