Very nice soft cotton and does the job very well when I get out of the pool.
This is really useful and very practical. I would have preferred it to be longer (I am tall). Would recommend.
Good terry towelling poncho ideal for the beach or swimming pool. Generously sized as a one size fits all although i would say this would easily fit an XL male or uk size 18-20 female. Easy to use and clean, the cotton fabric washes well in the machine.
Handy to have item it makes getting changed underneath with a little modesty easier too, i have only ever seen these for children which are good for taking to the beach or for swimming lessons but not seem them adult size until now. Since it is pretty much just a glorified towel, i would say the price of 44.99 (at the time of review) is very overpriced. Nice to have, handy item but too expensive for me for what it is.
Quite rough at first but soft after a few wears.
I’ve used this a number of times now. The most recent was at an equinox swim. So I took this photo as I took my wetsuit off and actually drove home in my robe Warm enough and big enough for my 5ft 5 frame, it’s certainly roomy enough to change under, if you’d like. But be aware of one side as it is an open slit, the other a useful zipped pocket. I’m really happy with my purchase as it’s super baggy but warm and able to dry.
The downsides; it’s a little bulky and heavy. But I don’t take another towel so this doesn’t really bother me. Warmed me up after my recent 13.7c open water swim
Great for on the beach and cosy for my son at home need to put it away for next yea
I do wild a swim every Sunday morning there are no changing rooms or showers so this robe does an excellent job of helping me dry off and keeping me cosy on my drive home.
Roomy enough to easily get changed underneath and cosy enough to keep you warm once out of the sea. Not too heavy, weighs about the same as a beach towel.
This is great!
I’ve recently used on holiday and I love it!
Easy to put on,
Comfortable,
Dries my quickly,
Keeps me warm,
It’s well made,
Washes well,
Dries well
This is such a good product! The only thing I’d change is the hole in it, so I can’t answer the door if I’m wearing it- but I get why it’s there. I will sew it up!
I have really thirsty skin (it’s always dry as a bone) but I also have skin which will not dry well when wet. No idea why, all I know is it can take an age to get myself dry (as a kid I hated swimming lesson days because whilst everyone else was already dressed and off getting some snacks I was still rubbing and smothering myself in talc so I could slide some clothes back on).
As an adult it’s something I’ve had to learn to deal with and I ensure I get up an hour earlier than I need to so I can be dry enough to go to work; in the evenings I’ve always allowed myself to air dry but find a towel doesn’t like to hold in place – no matter which way I fold it (over, or under) and a bath robe can be really heavy; at this time of year sitting outside a bathrobe can also expose your neither regions to your neighbours (yes one of my is still traumatised and can’t look me in the eye; in my defence he was a ladder looking over the wall between us at the time!!)
At Christmas someone bought me a floor length hoodie, and that got me thinking about whether I could potentially sew some towels together to make a similar thing that I could wear in place of the bathrobe, or falling towels; that thought then lead me to amazon where I came across a wadge load of changing robes.
I settled on this particular one purely based on price – I didn’t want to spend a lot of money if it wasn’t going to be fit-for-purpose, and am so very glad I did. There is a large split at the side (waist height) so whilst it does expose some skin it’s not going to be enough to terrify anyone. I’m not so sure on the one-size-fits-all. I’m a 20 and it’s fitting where it touches in some places so I think anyone bigger would find it quite a tight fit and would potentially struggle to sit in it. Aside from that it does exactly what it says in the description. It’s soaks up most of the water almost immediately without leaving me feeling wet and clammy; it’s lightweight too and feels no heavier than a nightshirt does.
The only downside and something that puts me of buying any more (for now) is the length. I’m 5’4″ and it comes to just above my knees. When sitting I’ have to be a little careful as it rides up to halfway up my thighs. If they made a full length one I’d get on and order a dozen of them.
When something is one size it usually means a sz 12/1 at a push but this robe is very spacious and would cover anyone a size 16/18 and 5 ft 7 and above and still give you plenty of room.
As with any form of towels it’s always best to wash this 1st to maximise the softness of this, you can use it straight out the box I just find towels feel more sifter after they have been washed..
Very well made, very spacious, soft feel to it and perfect stitching.
Perfect for on the beach walking to and from the beach as it won’t cling to your skin which is perfect for those who are not body confident.
Nice addition of the pockets if your walkign around wearing this.
Excellent value for money.
First use today purchased couple weeks ago did lots of research before buying. Very well made good quality.
Warm after open water swimming. Absorbent and easy to get changed underneath.
Excellent value, and quality.
I don’t do much swimming but I do use the hydrotherapy pool when possible.
I needed something that would make the changing, drying and redressing process a bit easier (I’m disabled).
This has definitely made a difference.
I can pop it on, and let it absorb the water whilst saving a bit of precious energy before getting dressed again.
It’s roomy enough to use whilst in my wheelchair, but I tend to use it whilst seated in the changing room.
It’s very absorbent, presumably because it’s good old terry towelling, soft and cosy.
It’s very easy to put on and take off, and dries well.
It does shed, so I’d recommend putting it through the wash a couple of times before use.
Otherwise I’m really pleased with it.
Happy to recommend.
Thank you for reading, I hope you find this review helpful.
Perfect for when you are at the beach or wish to dry off after a swim. It’s clearly a towelling robe material wise so not recommended for pre/post outdoor swimming at a triathlon for example. For that you’d want a waterproof outer/fleece lined inner drying robe.
This however, is much cheaper than the alternative mentioned above and is very well made. It fits well and serves its purpose. Excellent value for money and happy to recommend.
SO SO COMFORTABLE AND PRACTICAL. I Love the poncho style for my shape, it is so much more comfortable than coat style robes. Made of 100% cotton terry toweling, poncho style hooded bath or swim robe covers me completely, is very absorbent and comfortable to wear plus it washes and dries well. I have it hung permanently in my bathroom for every day use and I will never return to those coat style dressing gowns as this poncho style will always be my first choice. It is also perfect for the beach as a beach robe or cover up for privacy while changing. The zip pocket holds money or cards securely.
I am a women size 18/20 and I dislike traditional bath robes or dressing gowns as they are not comfortable for me to wear. as they gap open at the front and the waist ties are uncomfortable and unflattering
I spend a lot of time during the warmer weather in the water and so this robe is a fabulous idea. It’s great. Sometimes I don’t even bother to change just walk to my car and drive home. The towelling material, a little hard at first, softens well on the first wash. The pocket at the right and the opening at the left is a great addition. Great value for money, summer essential!
It’s super comfortable and it’s made of towel like materials, one side has a pocket and the other side has a hole, I have been using it around the house as it covers me when I’m not in the mode to change into proper clothes and still wet.
Overall good quality and cozy to wear.
This is a lovely, comfortable, soft, changing robe, perfect for swimming, surfing. It is warm, dries me well. The towelling is soft and absorbent. It feels very good quality and the big hood is great for my wet hair. I like the color, the grey doesn’t show the dirt. Wished I had bought it sooner, if you’re thinking about getting one, don’t hesitate!
This terry-towelling cotton towel is very much like a traditional towel (or dressing gown) fitted to comfortably get changed at the beach or swimming pool. Unlike a lot of the cheaper, super-fast drying towels that are currently on the market, this is thick and warm, so will be suited if you’re going sea swimming and expect to feel cold getting changed afterwards in the car park!
Our kids prefer these thicker changing towels to the thin-style new ones, and the pocket is a nice touch. The dull grey isn’t exactly exciting, and for the current price of around 40 I’d probably go for something a bit more colourful, but it does the trick very well and we use this happily to get changed into and out of wetsuits at the beach.
This is a good changing robe – the cotton toweling means it’s perfect for drying yourself as well as changing inside it. The fabric is soft without being supersoft.
It’s absorbent and copes well with a very wet person inside!
The robe is very spacious and it’s easy to change in confidence with this over you.
Zip pocket is very handy and a feature that you don’t always get on changing robes.
It’s not as lightweight as some robes and doesn’t pack up as small, so less good for travelling, but ideal for us to keep in car boot as we live by the sea.
This towelling robe is made of thick towelling fabric. A bit heavy. I always take it with me when I go to the beach. It’s extra large so you can get changed underneath it. Very useful. That’s what I need. The big pocket on the right-hand side is so convenient, excellent! Good quality at a bargain price.
This changing robe is ideal for after surfing, kayaking, paddle boarding or just generally on the beach.
It is made of a towelling material which is very absorbent and oversizes so you can easily slip your arms inside to get changed.
There is a pocket on one side where you can store things and a slit on the other to reach inside. It is thick enough to keep you warm in chilly weather.
It is a shame the colour isn’t brighter rather than a drab grey.
This is a large swim changing hoody that feels a bit overpriced for what you actually get.
It’s not the most attractive of things, especially in the grey colour, but is functional. The material quality feels average, and for the price point I’d have expected it to be more plush as it feels very much like a basic towel. When on the body it’s comfortable enough against the skin, but not amazing and I never had a “wow, this is nice” moment.
The huge hood is quite frankly a bit ridiculous as it is ginormous, covering the entire face. When up over the head it soon becomes annoying and hard to see properly.
I do like that one side of the robe has a zipped pocket and the other is an open hole to enable you to get your hand in to pull down your costume/trunks without having to lift the robe up too much and risk exposure to the elements.
In terms of length, on my wife who is 5ft 6in, the robe drops to just below mid calf.
Overall then, this is OK. It is easy to slip on and off, covers more than a normal towel and will dry. I just wish it felt more special than a normal towel.
The beach-devotee gift recipient reports: ‘I love this towelling robe – it’s perfect for the beach, – especially on colder or windy days and it will also be good for private changing under wraps. The colour — grey: is tasteful. The fabric is really nice and has a nice cotton towelling natural feel. I had one before this that had polyester in it and it was horrid to use and gave off static — this one is so much better. I like the zip pocket in which to keep valuables and an opening on the other side so you can pop your hand in to help take off your costume. The attached hood is roomy and good to help dry my long wet hair.’
Equals ‘Highly Recommended’.
This Winthome change robe is made of a medium weight terry towelling cotton.
This is great for outdoors as the wind does not penetrate through the material and the hem is unlikely to blow up in windy weather.
It can be used as a changing robe and is spacious enough inside to retract your arms from within the sleeves and take off and put on your clothes.
It is also great for beach holidays, especially in the UK, where you may want to sit inside it to warm up when you have been swimming in the sea or walk back to your accommodation wearing it.
It is generously sized, and would fit most adults.
It is comfortable for wearing indoors as a dressing gown after a shower or for chilling on the sofa.
The robe seems well made and has an small opening on one side to access a trouser pocket. There is also a useful zip pocket which would be suitable for keys, purse, wallet, a small pack of tissues, swim goggles or mobile phone.
When rolled up is is about the size of a large bath sheet.
It washes well at 40 degrees and I have tumble dried it without shrinkage.
It seems fairly expensive at time of writing, but it is a good quality item and I can recommend it.
The changing robe is made from Terry Towelling cotton and is quite heavy at just under a kilogram, 970gms. The robe doesn’t have any front or side openings and fits over the head, it’s roomy enough to change in and the sleeves are large enough to be able to pull your arms inside the robe for changing and then back out when finished. There is a large zippered pocket on the right-hand side and an opening on the left-hand side. The changing robe was softer and more absorbent after washing and tumble-drying. It’s cosy and warm, but even tightly rolled the robe is quite bulky and heavy and would be best suited to communal changing areas, such as open air pools and lakes, and beaches where you aren’t walking a long distance.
My wife goes cold water swimming in ponds and the sea and she uses this for getting tried and changed afterwards.
She says it dries her really quickly (she washes it without conditioner) and is easy to move about in to get changed (underneath it). It is quite heavy but that’s to be expected if you are wanting something that absorbs a lot of water.
For me this type of product is about function over comfort, I would prefer the material to be slightly thinner so it could be used for a quick dry and change, weigh a little less and take up less space so it would be easier to transport. As it is, it’s thick, bulkier than needed, but it still does what is required and that’s provide a bit of privacy in locations where there may not be any.
A nice, softish, good quality, changing robe in a pleasant grey colour. It is ideal for on the beach, when the weather improves. Made from 100% cotton, this robe by Winthome is very large and so it is ideal to strip off those swimming trunks, or costume, and on with the underclothes… all without the embarrassment of a flimsy towel around your waste, trying desperately to change into your pants and shorts, or bra and slip, without anyone seeing something the find embarrassing. In this case, the generous size works perfectly.
I think maybe I should have added a fabric conditioner to the first time I washed the robe, because, although the garment is soft, it could be a little softer. We followed the clear instructions provided by the manufacturer regarding laundering the changing robe, so it was washed separately in a 30-degree cool wash and there was no noticeable colour run, nor any dye leaching out, as the manufacturer suggested might happen, in the instruction leaflet provided. So, nothing to worry about.
The changing robe seems very well made, with quality fabric together with strong stitching, and so it should last many visits down on the beach. I have seen changing robes for men and women on-line at 75 plus, so this robe, for sale at just 45, is very reasonably priced.
This towelling robe is ideal for the beach, watersports or communal changing areas where a bit of changing privacy is required.
It is very roomy and could easily be used by the whole grown up family of different sizes.
The robe has a zipped pocket in which to keep valuables and an opening on the other side so you can pop your hand in to undo your belt etc.
It is also large enough to keep your arms within the robe, rather than in the sleeves, to change within its confines. The attached hood is roomy and good to pop up over wet hair.
It is quite thick though not soft. The colour is quite a dark drab grey. It has funny smell when first opened but this went once washed. The robe was a little softer after a wash too.
This robe is large enough to wear over a wet suit though doesn’t have any waterproof properties.
I like Terry towelling, the more the better in my opinion, and not to do down microfibre, but this type of material has far better qualities than microfibre material. Now don’t get me wrong microfibre has advantages such as lightness etc but for drying withnothing beats towelling. It is heavier I’ll give you that but it just feels more substantial and looks the business. I received the dark grey robe and it is huuuge. But I have marked it as ‘fit as expected’ as that is what I expected, I would not like an exact fitting, it just would not be right. I did say the more the better didn’t I? This is generous to a faultI don’t look at that as a bad thing. Lot’s of material to dry with! This robe won’t win any fashion shows but that is certainly not what it’s forit’s for staying warm, covering up and drying offfull marks all around then! The sewing is excellent, the thickness of the material is excellent, long arms, a long length of robe, big hoodin a wordterrific. There is a thin zipped pocket that’s looks almost concealed on the right side of the body and an open pocket on the left hand side of the body so you can reach inside for any reason. I don’t own this company by the way, I just speak as I find. The instructions that come with this regarding washing refer to brighter colours bleeding or some such thing, but I can’t relate to that because of the dark colour of this robe. Now if you are someone who cares more for looks over performance then you are going to be sadly disappointed with this, go elsewhere but for those who want a top performing article look nowhere else. 5/5! It is 40.49 but it’s worth it.
Absorbent and unfashionable.
Fortunately whilst preserving your modesty at the beach or after an outdoor swim only one of the aforementioned qualities are of any relevance.
I used the robe without washing first and then after it was washed. Absolute night and day. You MUST wash this and preferably tumble dry before first use.
When I did this and used it after a 6.6 degree Celsius swim, it was as if someone was gently towel drying me as I changed. No more cold wet clothes or policemen asking awkward questions about towels falling off in front of nuns. Done and (gently) dusted.
Winthome Change Robe 100% Terry Towelling Cotton
This Winthome changing robe is absolutely brilliant, I love everything about it.
It feels excellent quality – the towelling is soft and nicely thick enough, but not heavy-thick (which would just be cumbersome on the beach). Obviously there are lighter microfibre beach change robes out there, and if I were going somewhere hot, or needed to travel light, then I’d take one of those with me. But otherwise I’d choose this one any time.
The good seams and the binding around the inside of the hood part shows the quality and care gone into the making of this robe. So does the brilliant (almost invisible) zipped pocket. Which of course is great for keeping phone and keys etc safe from mishaps. The fabric is very absorbent, and the hood is great for wet hair and for keeping the chill off.
The shape works for pretty much any adult size, it really is big enough for a tall / wide person, but works great for a smaller adult too, if they don’t mind it big on them.
The opening hole for fastening clothes underneath is nicely big enough, but fully concealed by the folds unless you want to use it.
If you’re into wild swimming, I would imagine this robe would be ideal. Practical and warm for your ‘just out of the water’ needs.
Obviously it’s designed for changing purposes, but for my English beach holidays I anticipate the robe will nicely double up as wind-protector too where needed. I chose grey, and it is a lovely mid grey – much like the skies before the inevitable holiday rain! But I also like to use it just for home use – step out of the shower or bath and potter around, all cosy and comfortable til getting dressed on going to bed. Rather like a dressing gown, but much more practical and a more secure cover-up.
This is currently 40.49 with the added bonus of a 20%voucher off. It sounds pricey, but it’s well made and feels like it will last a long time and a lot of washes. For me personally it’s well worth the full price, I use it all the time at home, as well as looking forward to using it on the beach as both changing robe and for keeping warm. I love it.
Very soft towelling cape with arms. There is plenty of room to be able to change in privacy whilst in full view of others. Very useful for the beach or communal changing rooms.
Washes well, a very good buy.
I have been really impressed with this changing gown – its large, long and oversized to aid with changing underneath when wearing it, its made from a thick, soft and warm cotton / towelling material which is very comfy to wear and is fairly quick drying. The grey colour looks good when worn, and it also has a hood, a pocket access hold on the side and a very handy side zip pocket on the right to keep items safe when changing. It also washes well, keeping its shape and colour, and works well as an extra layer on cold days. Overall, a great item and one I would recommend.
Winthome Change Robe
I was pleased to find this came through the post neatly folded inside a zip-lock plastic bag, removed from the bag it is ready to go. I have a pet hate for garments that are vacuum packed to save space, I often find they are so creased that they never recover, this changing robe arrived in perfect condition.
I was a little concerned about the size of this as it’s listed as ‘One Size Fit All Adults’, my wife is rather small and I’m rather large, so I did wonder if it would fit either of us. This does fit my wife, although it is a little long for her, but as this will be used for drying then it’s handy to have a little extra material to hand. I have to be honest, I could not get into this at all, it was way too small for me by a long way.
The changing robe is made from terry towelling, it’s not the thickest material that I’ve come across, neither is it thin, it’s kind of in the middle; the material is super soft and does soak up moisture quite well. This has a large hood which is ideal for rubbing most of the moisture from the hair.
Overall the robe appears to be decent quality, I could detect no wayward stitching with all seams looking neat and tidy. If you are of small to medium build then this will probably fit, but if you are a larger person then it most likely won’t fit.
Thank you for reading my review, I hope you have found it helpful.
We have a couple of changing robes which are the thin microfibre style material which is nice when you want to dry and pack and go.
However when you want to sit around on the beach keeping the wind off as well as having a changing solution, terry towelling is far superior. Way warmer.
This is a quite heavy changing robe.
It is full length on me and comes to 9″ from the floor (I’m 5′ 3″)
Obviously you have to have a roomy robe to be able to fully dress or undress under it and this one has plenty of room.
The hood is huge too.
There are some nice features.
On one side is a zipped pocket so you have somewhere to keep your things that isn’t just on the ground as you get changed eg your swim goggles or car keys.
The other side has a gap as though it is a pocket but it is an opening for your hand so you can fasten buttons without taking your arm out of the sleeve.
It isnt that hard to get your arms out anyway.
The sleeves are about 3/4 length.
The seams are all strongly overlocked.
There is still a bit of strandiness though.
I changed into a corduroy shirt and there is a lot of lint from the towelling.
I think this will wear off after a couple of washes.
I would definitely use this on the beach if we had travelled there by car but it is very big to pack in a suitcase.
