Beautiful knife and superb cutting blade…..but the place where you grip the knife with your thumb and index finger is very poorly finished and needs to be sanded with wet and dry sandpaper in order to make it comfortable to hold….and it is not easy to sand these edges without damaging the finish on the metal. Otherwise 5 stars
The knife I received was the new model with the new updated etched wording on the blade, great value. I will use this seller again, definitely. The 16cm bladed Chefs knife is as far as I’m concerned a much better sized blade to work with compared to the full sized Chefs blade. I have a full sized Chef bladed knife but don’t use it at all since receiving this purchase.
I cook the lunch (often soup) & evening meal. My sharpening steel had worn flat and the handle of my 16 cm knife was breaking up. I purchased the Wursthof Sharpening Steel and Wursthof 16 cm ClassicCook’s knife as replacements. I have used the 12 cm Wursthof 12 cm Utility knife for years. I sharpen the knives using the recommended method of light slicing strokes at an angle of 20 degrees. It’s like polishing the cutting edge. The 16 cm is the sharpest knife I have ever used. It makes meal preparation effortless.
The combination of the Wursthof steel, 12 cm & 16 cm knives is excellent for the “House Chef”!
Present and my sister and she is very pleased with the knife
Idk why but it came with a (broken inside) Wsthof Classic Ikon 20cm Box instead of 16cm and it makes the knife a little loose and dusty inside. but overall the knife is damnn sharp and feel good in my hand. thx
Bought this as a new cooks first chef knife. Shipped insanely fast for coming to Alaska. Exactly what you’d expect from a wustof knife. Sharp, feels durable, should last this FNG awhile.
I like the shape of the blade. Handle is comfortable in my hand although it is slightly long.
I have a set of Classic Icon knives, but I found the large chef was too big for me. The 6″ knife fits me just right!
Perfect balance, excellent blade, it has become my most-used knife.
Purchased as a gift for my partner who is extremely happy with it.
Perfectly weighted, well designed and impeccably sharp – after almost 3 weeks of use the edge is still as sharp as when it arrived.
As a kitchen knife its certainly on the expensive side but its worth spending more on a quality blade so you don’t end up having to sharpen your knives every week just to keep a keen edge.
Just to confirm what the previous reviewer wrote, the knife that I was supplied (in Dec 2020) was indeed the latest incarnation of this classic chef’s knife (with a black logo and less text on the blade). Currently, the product photo in the listing shows the older style (with a red square that carries the Wusthof logo).
Anyway, I simply gave the knife 5 stars because although it’s the first knife of this quality level that I have ever bought, it is exactly as I imagined its would be to hold and use. Expensive, but ‘the best’ generally is.
Excellent quality of knife with great comfort and sharpness. Had been a bit confused due to come with new logo, had to research about that and got the authentic confirmation about new simplified logo. Saller should update there photos with new one to get rid of making confusion.
I did a lot of research before. Bought this. So good I came back and bought the serrated bread knife too.
Cannot recommend highly enough – premium quality and the blade holds its edge for ages.
It’s the perfect knife, the best design and quality! Totally recommend i
Solid construction, balanced weight, very sharp (still is after six months), great for someone living alone who doesnt need a billion knives. I use the sharp edge to score bread and it cuts other things just fine.
Got this for my mother, she enjoys the sharp edge and the weight that comes with a Wusthof. The handle is a nice shape for lengthy jobs.
Love this pairing knife. My go to now. Sharp and easy to handle
I started with the larger chef’s knife and a paring knife and switched between the two alot. Now I just grab Momma Bear’s knife, and it’s juuust right!
This knife performs like every other Wusthof knife – it cuts better than any other knife out there. And it’s very well balanced. No wonder it’s so expensive.
very nice, going to get the 8″ when fiances work out and look at the rest of the line.
Arm hair shaving sharp out of the box, comfortable and very well made. It’s so well balanced that I sometimes forget it’s there.
I’ve had this knife for a couple of weeks now and have been very impressed by it; dicing, slicing and chopping are all handled with ease and so far it hasn’t lost its edge at all. I don’t doubt that this knife will outlast me.
I love the half bolster, but it may not be to everyone’s taste, particularly if your not used to using razor sharp kitchen knives or if your technique isn’t so good.
I prefer Classic Ikon line than the newer wushtof classic models. Better handle and better heel.
Well packaged. Arrived as promised and in perfect shape. It’s wickedly sharp and I expect 2 lifetimes of use from this quality knife.
Very nice knife. It cuts up vegetables with ease. I am happy with the purchase.
Love the design and quality. Most used knife in the kitchen. Only use German or Japanese knifes, everything else isnot worth the money imho.
This thing is beyond sharp. I had the classic wustof 6″ chef knife and absolutely loved it. I am a chef at a country club and after I misplaced that knife. I had to get another one. This time I thought I’d spend a little more. And I love it. Worth it. The handle takes a second to get used to, but once you do its amazing. Awesome
My wife has smaller hands, and our 7″ and 8″ knives were overkill for our day-to-day chopping. She’s been using this for a few months now, and can’t stop raving about it. We don’t miss the hollow spots at all, in fact this almost seems better without them somehow. Holds an edge great, as with most Wusthofs.
Excellent for a petite person with big jobs! Ease of handling, sharp enough to cut through to cut through winter squash.
Great knife, has become my go-to blade in the kitchen.
I’m gradually replacing all my old knives with the Classic Ikon line of Wusthof and am in love with these. I was going to go with the slightly cheaper Classic models, but other Amazon reviewers said the Ikon was worth the extra $20-$30 per knife. I’m glad I went with it. There’s no flat bolster at the handle end to get in the way. They fit in your hand like they were made for it. They’re also much easier to sharpen because the entire blade goes through the sharpener. My previous cook’s knife was an 8″ and was a little to big and heavy for my small hands. This 6″ cook’s knife is a perfect fit. It’s a little tougher to use on large vegetables like squash, because of the reduced length, but it’s worth it for the comfort factor. These things are razor sharp. The Wusthof.com site has some great instructional videos that have improved my knife skills, as well. I can’t say enough great things about these knives. The only downside is that once you buy this one, it’s kind of addictive and you start buying the other ones, too!
I bought this knife elsewhere but am at Amazon to get the same knife for my neighbour.
I love this knife so much that when we moved 3,000 miles I left my furniture behind but packed my good knives, both Wusthof Classic Ikon–the 6-inch cook’s knife and the paring knife. Mine came with the sharpener, which is dead easy to use. Not that the knives need sharpening all that often.
I find I cut myself MUCH less often with a good, sharp knife than when a dull one slips. No surprises with this knife. It cuts cleanly and evenly, slides through tomatoes and is strong enough for turnip. I got the 6-inch blade because my hands are small. This knife is so well balanced, fits my hand perfectly.
I’m off to order one for my neighbour. I simply cannot stand watching that poor woman struggle with the lousy knife she now has.
This knife is sharp, sturdy, and comfortable in my hands with a quality handle.
One of the best chef knives Ive ever owned. Very sharp, the handle is very comfortable and the steel is strong with proper maintenance will last a lifetime.
Very pleased with the product excellent knife easy to sharpen and it will last good quality and balance perfect for small prep jobs had 4 months and wouldn’t use anything else
I’m so pleased we bought this Wusthof knife. I did a lot of research beforehand and, knowing that I didn’t want the Japanese-style Santoku knives, I am delighted that we chose these. It was a bit scary though as these are the first ‘proper’ knives (over 40 each, that is) that we’ve bought.
We also bought the Wusthof Classic Ikon Knife set (9601) plus the Boden Bistro Universal Knife Block and these 4 knives fit perfectly in it at a slight angle.
I also bought the Knife Sharpener by Lantana…and I’ve yet to use it (2 months later)…I know, I know, I’m meant to keep finely sharpening these but I’m just so happy with them as they are…I’m just waiting to see how long it takes before I notice a lack of sharpness 😉
I highly recommend these knives.
They are beautifully balanced and fit well in the hand (male and female).
Just be aware that they take some getting used to if you’ve not used ‘the best’ knives before…my fingers are now healed but it’s true that they were pretty cut to shreds in the first week. Surprisingly sharp! But please don’t let that put you off…just take your time and don’t buy them the week before a major party that you’re doing the catering for…you need time to become familiar with these!
Amazing petite chef knife. Well balanced and very sharp. This has become my ‘go to’ knife. Excellent at producing thin slices.
Expensive. But, You get what you pay for. Great knife! Slowly filling in the empty slots that are left in our block that I got my wife for Xmas. This knife is great for smaller tasks. Pro Wusthof quality. My wife has smaller hands so she prefers this over the 8 inch for a lot of jobs; says its mor versitile: and she is a pro cook.
I love the combination of the Wusthof classic blade with this ergonomic handle. The six inch is a good size for my hands. This is my go to knife for most jobs. It makes chopping onions or slicing vegetable a breeze. Check out the Ikon line. I didn’t think Wusthof could get any better until now.
Just the knife I wanted. My hands are small and this knife is perfect for small hands to grip.
Fantastic knife, it arrived on time with no imperfections on the blade and it was perfectly sharp which it remains to be 3 months later so I highly recommend this product.
Fed up with your delicate global knives ? Sure they are good for fine work, but if you want a strong heavy workhorse then you can’t go wrong with a German wusthoff. Every bit as sharp as the globals, but thicker and stronger … Good for fast chopping and dicing
This knife is high quality, I absolutely love it. I’m using for everything now. Just excellent. I sharpen it after each use with Wusthof 10-Inch Sharpening Steel
Just love love love it!!!
I have this and a Global – both excellent. Stop wasting your life – buy good knives which stay sharp
Had to get this for my sweetie. She didn’t like the 8″ that came in the set. I find that I use it a lot also. Great knives.
Love this knife! I like all of the Ikon knives I have, but this is the one I tend to grab. Holding up well, feels good in the hand, and I prefer a partial bolster as this knife has.
This is a classy knife. Feels good in your hand and comes paper cutting sharp.
Beautifully balanced for a knife this size. It’s got enough weight and girth that you can push it through when needed (best knife ever for piecing chicken, through small bones, etc.). It’s a real tool and does its job well. Had one for my BBQ kit, but wanted one for the kitchen as well.
This is a very comfortable knife to use. The curve of the blade makes chopping feel a breeze. It is exceptionally sharp. Also, the 6 inch is the perfect size for cutting up most foods.
Update after owning for 2 years – sharpens excellently and it is still my favourite knife. No obvious signs of wear yet. A great investment.
Well sharpened, looks good.
Had to grind edges of the spine near bolster a little for more “finger-friendly” grip.
I got this after buying another Wusthof. I am a convert. I have a couple of Kyocera ceramic, which look really cool, but they have to be babied. The Wusthof’s are workhorses. You can use them all day, and still comfortable in the hand. Well worth the money.
Love love this knife. Fix’s my hand and is great.
am in love with the knife its super sharp and I’ve been using it for about three weeks now and I don’t have any complaints about this master piece wusthof is a great brand and it can handle a heavy “restaurant” use. I will probably be getting the 8″ chefs knife
WTF…..! I bought this exact same knife here on Amazon on August 23, 2013 for only $69.99!.
The Wusthof Classic Ikon 6″ Cook’s knife is a very good knife. Blade is excellent, it arrived very sharp. Actual blade length is 6.125″, actual width is 1.5″. The blade profile is perfect; it’s balance is also perfect. The blade is honed thin, but it is stiff with no flex. The knife has good heft, being neither too light or too heavy. It’s a very good knife for anyone wanting a 6″ Chef’s knife; however ….
Now the bad news: the Ikon handle profile is very streamlined and a bit thin and a bit too small for my smallish hands. I purchased the Ikon because it was on sale and because I wanted to try out their handles. In hindsight, I should have stayed with the standard Classic handle as I find it perfect for my hands. The Ikon probably will work very nicely for women with small hands. I do NOT return purchases when I make purchasing mistakes, thus I had better learn to like this handle?
bearclawthedonu
This is undoubtably the best 6 in knife that I have, and I have several other brands. This is my “go to knife” for just about everything. I only hope that I can keep it sharp–wow!!
I’m 5’3″ tall & have small hands. I own an 8″ Wusthof Classic chefs knife that has always felt too big & heavy for me so I rarely use it & wind up using a 4-1/2″ utility knife instead. I assumed that a smaller chef’s knife would be a better fit & this fits me perfectly. It’s up to par with all my other Wusthof Classic knives & is becoming my go to knife.
Oh Lord, I love this knife. For the money, this knife is a perfect size. It fits my hand great, the blade is sharp, I love how the blade cuts all the way to the inside end near the handle. Some blades curve up near the handle…I don’t get that. If you only got one nice knife, this one is ideal. Not to big, not too small, perfect hand fit.
Purchased this knife as a gift for a friend that loves to cook! He loves it & has never had a knife this nice! Highly recommend!
I have bought most of my set of Wusthof Classic Ikon knives on Amazon. The knives are superior quality and I saved a small fortune buying them on Amazon on sale. Need I add more?
That’s it. The title. I could nitpick, but I’d have to make things up. Buy it if you want a great 6″ knife.
This is the best knife I have and I do have a few.
It slices well and feels right in the hand.
I manly have used it with salads however I am going to get to the more fiber laden root vegetables soon.
Good purchase so far.
If you want a chef to smile, this is just the brand of knife that will do it. We have the collection of Wusthof and would not use another brand
I love this knife! The weight of the handle is great!!! I needed a few new knives
and get rid of some oldies….
I will have my knives sharpened professionally and skip the $8 home sharpener.
I got this knife as a gift and I like it very much. It stays sharp and I have a good grip with the handle.
Good service. And seventeen more words will not be forthcoming like this rating form requests and I am going to quit rating people if these kinds of requirements are going to be placed on a rating.
The knife is beautiful, well balanced and very sharp. Cutting is easy and effortless. The tapered handle fits into your hand-grip confidently. I will easily be using this every-day knife for another ten years (I have older models that are at least that old). This knife is well worth the money.
Bought this knife in France for our holiday home after having originally bought (and thrown away) a cheap set from Homebase . It is brilliant – so brilliant that I keep it in our safe in France when we are not there so no-one using the house can lose it/damage it!
Family friends were staying with us this week and commented on what a great knife it is and were going off to buy when they got home. It is easy to sharpen – two of three swipes through a pull through type sharpener every few days and it goes through veg, meat etc like a knife through the proverbial. It feels very comfortable and is a joy to hold and use.
You can tell I am enthusiastic as this is the first (and probably only) time I will write a review for a product on any web site.
PS – buy the 16cm version. The compact size is part of what makes it great.
In regards to the previous review, i can understand why you found these knives hard to sharpen if you are not a professional chef, as they are designed to keep a good edge for a long time. In order to do this, they are made of a hard metal and it takes a lot of practice to be able to put a good edge on a knife.I have tried many different knives over my 17 years in the restaurant business and i find these the most comfortable to use for long periods of time and to keep a good edge for the longest and hence would recommend them to all professional chefs. I used global knives for a long time but found after prolonged use they gave me quite bad calluses on my hands. I hope this review is helpful.
This is not just a knife to cut stuff and throw into your drawer. For anyone who loves to cook, prepare food or who’s tired of dull knives – this is the one knife to have in your kitchen. This is the best quality, sharpest blade, perfectly constructed Chef’s knife available. Period.
I was very excited to get my 6″ Wusthof Ikon Chef’s knife as it’s my first really “good” knife that I’ve purchased. I haven’t been disappointed. The knife fits my hand perfectly (I have really small hands) and it cuts like a dream. I’m very, very happy because I love to cook and having the right tools makes all the difference!
Well made, comfortable, very sharp and easily kept so. Good cooks should spend the extra money to get good tools.
Bought this knife for my boyfriend. He loves the size and very comfortable feel. Easy to use! We may add to our collection.
bought this as a Christmas gift for my husband. He loves it I love it, it came ready to use. Cuts through carrots like butter. Have absolutely no complaints about this knife.
I was impressed with this knife with it’s construction, looks and use. No China garbage here, pure German quality.
And if you cook a lot, that’s what this fine knife is. The first things I noticed were the weight and the balance. This knife is heavier than knives of the same type and size from other manufactures. It is also very well balanced. The next thing I noticed was how well it fit into my hand; the profile of the handle is oval instead of squared off. This knife comes from the manufacturer very sharp, as you’d expect, but it is very easy to maintain the edge unlike previous knives we’ve owned.
Bottom line is if you cook once a week or less, this knife is really not worth the cost, but if you cook a lot and like to cook, this is a great investment.
First class knife. Works very well for a smaller size hand. Service was (as usual) fast and reliable.
