I have been searching for a modestly priced portable projector for my home gym for a while. I read to many reviews and long waited for the Xgimi Halo+ to drop on price. The picture is great and the difference from 720p from some projectors Benq gv30 and Samsung Freestyle is a game changer. Sound could do we being slightly beefyer and it’s a real struggle in direct sunlight, other than that no buyers guilt with this one . Happy with i
Hardly any noise from the fan, picture quality is great although sometimes goes fuzzy on startup but just need to get it to re-focus. Speakers could do with being a tiny bit louder but overall, extremely happy with it!
I have been wanting a portable projector for months and months and finally went for this in the sale.
I’m an Android fan so wanted Android TV which works really well on the Mogo.
Positives:
So quiet!
Great auto focus
Manual keystone when you need it
Sound is good
Android so can sideload apps
Bright enough
Negatives:
Not 4K (ha!)
I guess you can’t use it in full sunlight but why would you?
Slow operation but it’s fine
Just remember that it isn’t a 4k super bright beast but it is a light, portable, clever bit of tech.
This projector is excellent! We looked at several at all ends of the spectrum. We tried a few, but this one has been excellent and is a keeper!
The picture is great (but admittedly, works best in a dark room) and the sound is really good quality.
The fan isn’t too loud like we found with a few others.
We’re really pleased!
picture is good. But its not light enough in daytime
A very capable projector that performs great. Brightness is fine in a darkened room. Built-in Chromecast and WiFi makes it very versatile. Netflix and some other streaming services are not directly supported, but there are workarounds and now can enjoy Netflix as well. Sound is not very powerful, but added a WIFI speaker and now have great sound, although there is a slight lag.
The projector is very good, the only problem is you cannot install Netflix app. I recomand it for the quality of image, a good sound and reduced dimension.
It’s a good product: compact, good picture quality, vivid color. You can use it indoor even in daytime. But, it’s not for outdoor, except very late night, you know in UK summer, it’s very bright before 9pm
Picture and sound quality is good and works good in the light also; you don’t need absolute dark room to watch.
The negative is No Direct Netflix app, you have use file manager to down load api to watch Netflix.
The bigger one I would say is no app to access the projector through phone. I wish they create the app for this.
I bought this projector for my bedroom. The room is narrow, and it was not possible to easily mount a TV on the wall facing the bed. This little projector has been an admirable replacement for a traditional mounted HDTV.
I love the big picture, it’s clear and crisp. Unsurprisingly, the best picture results are when all lights are off and the room is dark. Having said that, the picture still works in a low light room but it will be a softer, less easily visible picture. (The first two photos I’ve uploaded are in low light but not totally dark room, the final picture is in a pitch black room so you can see the difference.)
The projector fan is super quiet — it’s positioned less than 12in from my ear and it’s still not terribly noticeable. This is amazing compared to other small/mini projectors I’ve reviewed before — their fans typically sound like a 747 taking off! (The quiet fan is also excellent given that I live in an apartment and I don’t want to make excess noise that might disturb my neighbors.)
The sound is decent. If you’re playing this in a smaller room, the sound is adequate but not mind blowing. If you want to play a movie in a larger room with more than 2 people, I’d recommend hooking up the projector to a Bluetooth speaker or sound bar.
Aesthetically speaking, it’s a lovely looking little device. It’s neat and will look good with most folks’ decor. The only things I would’ve liked to see are more HDMI imputs and the ability to watch Netflix natively on the device. At the moment if I want to watch Netflix I have to plug an Amazon Fire Stick into the only HDMI imput on the projector. This means that if I want to use a blu ray player, I have to switch out the Fire Stick. Not a dealbreaker for most folks, but it is a minor irritation and still worth noting for those of us who like being able to watch physical media. I’d also note for folks who have arthritis or similar issues with their hands/wrists, you may find the manual keystone correction less than ideal.
All in all this is a very good little projector for the price. I like it so much that I find myself wanting to watch TV in bed more often versus watching my much more expensive Samsung TV in the living room!
Only had it a short time its very compacked and is definitely quality i was concerned about the battery life and that was the reason I sent it back however its possible I did not have the right settings I have just purchased another Egimi and have shared my concerns to the company who has been first class in helping me
Amazing picture quality, the autofocus allows screens of any size, and even with the lights turned on, picture can be seen in full detail. Low weight and very portable. Highly recommend.
if this had a USB-C charging it would be amazing and easily replace the Capsule as the best portable projector (you need to be able to charge on the go)
but as it stands the Xgimi halo is much brighter takes the same charger lasts longer and has the same features. and discounts to the same price as this is normally.
Great little projector. Top value for money. Arrived next day.
This projector was finalized after trying 10 projectors. I am very happy with this projector due to below features.
1. Option to adjust brightness
2. Good speaker quality
3. Portablity and autofocus on move
4. Good picture quality
5. No fire TV stick required
6. Battery backup is good 1 to 2 hrs
7. Great without Screen on yellow or white wall
8. Mobile sharing has no issues or lag.
I did a lot of research before buying the Xgimi Mogo Pro, and for under 500 I don’t think you can buy a better projector in general, let alone one so portable.
THE IMAGE is true HD and looks fantastic after adjusting the settings (see recommended settings below*), especially when streaming downscaled 4K on a strong wifi connection. It is absolutely bright enough for a dark room, and is still perfectly watchable, if slightly faded, for a semi-lit room or a wall without harsh direct sunlight.
Contrary to an earlier review, there IS a Zoom function if you need to make the image smaller. (This may have come from a more recent firmware update). I have the projector about 2.75m from a wall, resulting in a 2.1m wide, full image display.
The auto-focus and auto-vertical-keystone work perfectly on power up (if you want to re-activate whilst watching, slide the little switch at the bottom of the remote). The horizontal keystone is manual digital, and easy to use.
THE SOUND from the speakers is crisp, clear, and loud enough for a medium-sized room. The bluetooth function allows audio to be sent seamlessly to external speakers or headphones. Bluetooth can also be used for a mouse or keyboard etc.
THE ANDROID TV INTERFACE works well and has native apps for Prime, Mubi, Youtube, Vimeo, AppleTV, Disney+, and web browsing, amongst others.
Again, contrary to a previous review, you CAN 100% also install iPlayer and Netflix in full HD, through a relatively straightforward workaround (search the Official Xgimi Mogo FB group; Netflix runs through an app called Kodi).
Unfortunately 4OD and NOW TV are not yet available. Apparently these native app limitations are the case for most projectors, except the very small number made by TV manufacturers. However, plugging in something like a 25 Amazon Fire Stick (which can also be powered by the Mogo Pro’s USB slot), allows access to all those apps and more.
The voice assistant on the remote control is useful and effective. And casting from an iPhone (or Android) works well via the AirScreen app.
GAMING seems to work flawlessly, at least using my nephew’s Nintendo Switch.
THE FAN is very quiet when plugged in, especially if brightness is reduced a little (see recommended settings below*), and it’s essentially silent when running from the battery.
THE BATTERY LIFE when new is about 75 minutes in regular mode, before automatically switching to ‘Eco’ mode for a further 30 minutes. (For some reason ‘Eco’ mode casts a slight green tinge, though fortunately it becomes less apparent after a few minutes of watching). Apparently a power bank can be used as an additional battery, as long as it matches the wattage and voltage.
THE DIFFERENCES between the 429 Mogo Pro and 549 Mogo Pro Plus seem to be: MP is white, MP+ is grey; MP has auto-horizontal keystone and manual vertical, whilst MP+ has auto for both; and MP+ has a small flip-out stand to prop it up. That means the MP+ is better, but probably not worth the additional 120 (especially if you buy a small tripod for 10 to use as a stand instead).
OTHER PROJECTORS in this price range don’t seem to have the functionality, or the image quality (except for maybe the Benq TH858 DLP, which is meant to have a fantastic image but isn’t portable, nor has Android TV / bluetooth / auto-focus). Over 500, there starts to be more competition, with brighter, higher resolution images – mainly other models also from Xgimi. But for under 500, or even better, under 400 if you catch it in a sale, the Xgimi Mogo Pro is the way to go.
*RECOMMENDED IMAGE SETTINGS – confusingly there are two places to adjust picture settings: ‘Image Mode’ (via the cog button on the remote) and ‘Projector Settings’ (via the cog icon on the top-right of the screen). Firstly, change the default ‘Image Mode’ to: Brightness 60, Contrast 40, Saturation 43, Sharpness 49, Red 59, Blue 43, Green 50. Then navigate to ‘Projector Settings’ > ‘Brightness’, and select either ‘Video’ (for better accuracy, but slightly louder fan) or ‘Customized’, with everything there set to 60 or 70% (for only very slightly less bright image, but much quieter fan).
Got this on Black Friday, it’s a brilliant projector for the price, good picture ok brightness. The sound and performance in daylight aren’t great but being realistic most people would use this in a darkish environment. We use ours every week and it’s a fantastic purchase .
Great projector fantastic picture and brightness which can be changed also very responsive remote great sound all round I will give this 10/10
Firstly, very easy to set up – in fact it did most of the work itself.
No special screen – I am projecting it on a wall and it its capable of giving a huge picture.
I have bought a sound bar to place the sound under the picture; the onboard speaker is adequate but not brilliant.
I have it mounted on a tripod which gives more flexibility
Used for a room full of blokes to watch the Autumn Rugby internationals – they were all impressed. The onboard apps mean we are straight into Prime Video and watching films. Other apps can be downloaded.
Screen mirroring works very well, giving the projector far greater versatility. Highly recommended
Fantastic full hd picture quality with built in apps, speaker and decent battery life so fully portable. Don’t be put off by the stated light output as this projector is great in most settings (obviously not suitable for bright sunshine). I was really surprised by how good this item actually is…
Amazing quality, bought a ceiling mount 7 on Amazon which is perfect. Speaker is good, all around a great portable projector and you can’t go wrong
-also found out 300ANSI lumens is the same as 3000. The fact it was ‘only’ 300 put me off for ages so I wish I’d known that at the start!
The Xgimi pro is the only projector I would recommend. The picture quality is excellent. I have connected some wireless speakers for truly immersive cinema and 120 inch screen I got here from Amazon. I have Kodi IPTV Netflix sideloaded, and anything else you need from playstore. Seriously the picture is perfect and could not recommend enough. Updates constantly happening including new keystone correction to make picture git to exact screen or wall projecting on. Don’t even think about others, this is the one you want. Xgimi customer service were also excellent when asked questio
It’s small and quite perfect for small room
Love it
its basically android tv the way looks and everything
After first buying a small android projector then turning it on after a few months and finding it wouldn’t update anything I decided to look at getting a projector that did update.
I looked at loads but kept seeing this one but thought do I really want to spend this much.
But WOW what a difference. You get what you pay for as the saying goes.
I took it out of the box and it updated straight away. I’ve had it about a month so far and it’s updated twice.
Quick start up auto focus which is great I’ve plugged my old PS3 into it and it’s quality in a bedroom about a 80″ picture. Great sound too but if used for a film outside I’d add better speakers which you can just plug in.
All in all it’s great for taking away if you got WiFi you can use it in hotel rooms.
Right the cons.
No support for Netflix and iPlayer but a cheap fire stick solves this issue.
Add support for Netflix and iPlayer and it’s a perfect projector.
Removed a star as I can’t get a fire stick to work. That’s a shame
Brilliant bit of kit, well worth the money.
I was apprehensive before hand as I have brought over projectors and they have been pretty bad. This works well indoors and outdoors. I watch the football in my garden, just used a white bed sheet for the screen. I mirrored my phone screen and the picture was really good. The screen was full size.
I really like it. The only issue is that the factory setting is not compatible with everything in UK. I can’t have ITV hub on it for example.
The fan is quiet. The picture is bright enough in my room with the curtains closed, projecting onto a wall or ceiling. It comes with a Bluetooth remote (supply your own batteries), and responds quickly to the remote.
I bought a Zeadio Metal Mini Tripod + Ball Head mount for the projector to make it easier to point at the ceiling without blocking the fan.
The picture can’t compete with daylight, but is fine with curtains closed (for a 2m diagonal image on my ceiling). The projector is a little brighter when it is plugged into the power supply. The projector beam brightness setting is buried a little in the Android TV UI, but it is possible to turn it down if needed. The automatic keystone correction works fine if the projector is upright on a table. If you’re projecting from the side or the device gets confused you can manually move the corners of the image to accommodate.
Project from a flat table on to a wall and then the bottom edge of the image will line up with the top of the projector. The diagonal size of the image is approximately equal to the distance from the wall (just a little less).
The built-in sound seems tuned for speech, and it’s easy to understand spoken dialogue. It’s not an exciting sound for music. If you want wider stereo or a louder sound, then you can Bluetooth out to any other speakers that you have. That worked great for me with a simple stereo speaker, but when I sent the audio to a paired set of Nest Home mini speakers then the sound usually got out of sync and caused video glitches.
The Android TV UI is great, but is also the source of a few annoyances:
– Some UK streaming services are not authorised to run on this projector (at June 2021 ITV Hub, All 4 and BBC iPlayer all refuse to run)
– Netflix is not authorised to run on this projector
(Amazon Prime Movies, Demand 5, Google Movies, Disney+ and YouTube all play well using the built in apps and the remote control.)
The projector also appears on my network as a Chromecast, which mostly works as expected, so I can cast the UK streaming services to the projector. However, …
– When I cast Disney+ the image was much too dark. (No problem, use the built in app).
– It is not possible to cast directly from the Netflix app on my phone, again due to some lack of official approval
I installed the Kodi app from the Play store, and installed the Kodi add-on for the BBC iPlayer. I followed instructions on github to install an add-on for Netflix. Trying to watch Netflix initially caused an error message that suggested a change in the “Expert Settings”. Now it’s setup it works fine, but I’d prefer the official apps to just work.
Lots of fun, and maybe software updates will solve a few of the annoyances in the future.
When I’m sitting at the table I’m always sitting behind it looking at the fan. Why not put the lens on the back? It looks sensible tilted back on the tripod to project on to the ceiling.
I was looking for something small that I could put away after using as I live on a boat and space is at a premium. This projector is absolutely phenomenal for what it cost. I have plans for using it on holidays. The picture quality is excellent. The only issue is the battery which does last for an episode or so of something short but it will dim quite quickly to preserve battery. But aside from that it is absolutely brilliant.
The XGIMI technical support has been super helpful – especially Vivian with friendly communication and prompt attention. The warranty return to Hong Kong and back to the UK took less than a week and the projector is now working brilliantly again. As I said in my original review below they really are fantastic little machines.
First up I bought the Mogo Pro direct from XGIMI in China and got a very good price although it took a good deal longer than the advertised lead time to arrive. Many things about the projector are great, excellent picture, auto-focus works really well, built in Chromecast is a huge improvement. There are issues with Android TV (no Netflix, Chrome browser etc but these are workable round). Unfortunately after only a few months following an update to the firmware my one died and is completely unresponsive. Xgimi support has suggested some things to try with no success and the best they can offer me is to return the device at my own expense to Hong Kong to be repaired and returned for free – before Brexit this would have been to Poland but apparently courier’s are not returning goods to the UK because of the customs complications. I’d caution anyone to be aware that this is what XGIMI’s warranty amounts to. Great pity as it is a lovely little machine. After some reflection XGIMI have offered to cover the expense of a warranty return to Hong Kong – it would be better if this was clear from the start but is a welcome development.
I spent months researching which portable device I wanted, and as it happens I came across the Xgimi MoGo Pro +. The picture and brightness is much better than I have anticipated and works a treat in the bedroom on our wall.
Would very much recommend this product if your looking for a portable projector.
I did however spend ages trying to connect the device to find out it didn’t come with batteries!
Loving the product. Compared it to the Nebula Capsule 2- image quality and brightness is better on XGIMI mogo pro+, and the autokeystone correction in both axes is priceless (Nebula only corrects vertically wish isn’t ideal).
There are work arounds to enable to access Netflix and BBC iplayer etc… I just use a web browser app dowloaded from the play store. Failing that, chromecast is your friend.
Rarely write reviews as neither the time or inclination, but having bought on impulse I have to say beyond impressed. Set up prime account in minutes and watching movies on a 120 inch screen. British weather rubbish since it arrived so outdoor cinema nights curtailed but 1080 hd quality has me wandering around the house projecting on walls, ceilings.. sharp images and autofocus makes it easy.
So far this is the most expensive projector I have owned. However after using it for few weeks , I was completely surprised. It has so many functions in such a small size. Autofocus and keystone correction are amazing. Just need to connect WIFI, I can watch movies through the built-in Apps. Picture quality outstanding and very clear image resolution.
Due to its high quality, to experience prestige result I suggest get quality white projection board, or smooth white wall.
Need to mention that this is new DLP technology projector, not standard old LCD projector. Due to its DLP projector it’s much clear and high contrast rations, great image quality. Along with its great image quality it’s also much quieter, no noise interruption. Also DLP projectors smaller and lighter while delivering outstanding image.
It also has build in all around speakers which delivering clean music.
Overall it’s bit high value compare to my old model however it delivers outstanding quality image.
Pros
Auto focusing feature is great a projector is moved around alot
Inbuilt smart functionality which easily can be cast to
Decent brightness
Cons
Weird Netflix issue
Screen size is not adjustable
Before you buy this projector, it is worth considering – will the projector you buy have a dedicated spot where it will never move, or will it be moved around, from storage to place, room to room? If it is the latter, then this is a strong choice. The former? Maybe not. My set up is that I have a pop up screen, and the projector is tucked out the way until I set out the screen and put the projector on a table.
The better the quality if video, the better the quality this projector will show off. Everything looks crisp and clear and I can find not fault in the picture quality thus far, and blown up everything looks good.
The auto focusing feature is great – put it down, it reads where it is pointing and adjusts itself automatically. You can get some interesting angles before it declares the angle is too great to compensate. And if you boot it up and it is not aligned you can either nudge it to trigger the auto focus or go into Settings and manually trigger a keystone correction. This means that moving it around is incredibly easy – wherever you put it, it will adjust itself in a few seconds and you’re good to go. It has a tiny adjustable stand on the bottom as well. I am projecting from around four feet and it handles that fine, but if you want a very large screen you need at least six.
The brightness is adequate. I’ve used it in a sunny room, though it is best in a dark one. I find my light set up isn’t great for the projector, as my home lights are quite low and throws a lot of light onto the screen itself, but if you shine another light directly at where you are trying to project that’s not the projectors fault it has difficulty competing.
The smart features are impressive. Once I realised I could cast to it using any device on my home network – even my wired stuff, like my PC – this means it strips out the necessity of connecting cables. While I do on occasion cast from my PC, I more often now use apps downloaded on the projector directly. And for those of us that find smart features creepy, a.) your findings are valid, and b.) I have never given the projector permissions to use the mic, and unlike a smart TV or home device that never stops listening as it is plugged into the mains you can turn this off properly when not wanted.
The battery life is around sixish hours, maybe more or less depending how you use it. I tend to use it plugged in as it ups the brightness, but it’s nice to know on it’s own it should get a movie or two out. It comes with a charger, and has a USB slot if you want to use a portable battery pack.
Aside from smart features, it has one USB slot, one HDMI slot, and one standard audio jack.
The sound is acceptable. Nothing amazing, I find it fine for most things but if audio quality is wanted I recommend either pairing it with a Bluetooth speaker or making use of the audio jack.
To talk about it’s downsides – a fairly significant one is the lack of screen resizing. Want it bigger? Move it further away. Smaller? Move it closer. You can’t resize it any other way. So if you intend to have a permanent place for a projector that will likely be an issue as you might have to move it from it’s intended place to get the screen size you want.
To address the Netflix issue – Netflix and this projector don’t get on. You can download the app – it will not work. You can cast Netflix from your phone to the projector – it will not work. However, you can either cast from a PC (some stuttering might occur) use the XTV app as described in the FAQ (it mirrors a mouse pointer so it’s not great to navigate but it works fine) or some people state a smart tv dongle like the Amazon thing also works. It is admittedly very strange as other video streaming services – YouTube, TED, Disney+, Crunchyroll – they all work great locally. Either way, it is an annoying issue to work around considering how big Netflix is.
I kinda wish there was a dedicated carry case or kit for this projector!
Final conclusion – if you want a projector only some of the time, or want one that is portable and will travel around your house or other places, then this is a solid choice, and any shortcomings (screen size, brightness, sound quality, battery life, Netflix access) can be negated by controlling the environment or adding additional devices. If you want a home cinema set up with a projector permanently placed for consistent watching, then while you could likely get this projector to do this, I would recommend for your money to consider a different product.
Very good, silent. It adapts to the different angles to make the screen square. I like the Android tv and allowing us to use Amazon prime on it. It is much better than a TV as I can get a large or small screen, bring it to conferences or use it in different rooms. A good investment. And no need for TV anymore!
Really impressed with this product. Great picture, good sound, very quite, good usability. Most apps work, prime, Disney plus,
Currently Netflix doesn’t on latest firmware but you can plug in fire stick and get Netflix through that if need be. The auto keystone and focus is really good.
Spent a while Researching the best portable projector for home and travel. Was immediately impressed with the brightness while turning it on in the daylight. The autofocus, picture quality, ease of use and the general features are brilliant. I also purchased the pro+ However found issues with the autofocus and sound quality compared to the pro. The Netflix workaround is very simple as they provide an app that does all the work. If looking for the best portable projector currently I feel this is the one. Enjoy
Incredibly happy with this projector! The auto keystone and focus feature is very useful as I regularly move the project from room to room and don’t have to worry about adjusting the focus or keystone. The image is bright enough as long as you’re in a dimly lit room (no light is optimal). The exemption of the android tv Netflix app is a down side however if you have a chromecast it’s easy to cast Netflix through it instead of side loading the Netflix app. The built-in speakers are a bit underwhelming but are decent enough for watching YouTube, don’t expect room filling sound when watching a movie. Pairing a good bluetooth speaker does the job though.
This is amazing! The set up was very easy and I’m surprised by how clear and sharp the image is! Nice and compact and supports many streaming apps, the only issue is nextflix doesn’t seem to work on the Pre download app HOWEVER we plugged out chrome cast into the projector and casted Netflix from our phone to the chrome cast and it works!!
EDIT: check your unit very well before you settle. Unfortunately I had issue with 2 units I had to send back. The 3rd is the keeper so far.
I’m glad that I didn’t listen to people who told me I should stick with “known” brands. If you are on the market for a portable, very capable projector, look no further.
This projector tick all my boxes: small, light, battery powered (although you will need a power bank if you plan on watching the trilogy of the lord of the rings), beautiful 1080p image, with a very balanced sound for a small/medium room.
It’s not as bright as a home projector or the Halo (another model from the same company). But for my use case is perfect.
I almost forgot one of the best features: Androidtv 9.0 with Chromecast included. You can create a local network between your laptop/pc and access all your files using a player like VLC.
Overall I’d recommend it to anyone looking for a small projector. There is no competition for something like this. It will only be when Anker releases a new nebula 1080p. Until then, Xgimi it is!
Fantastic 10/10
Great picture quality
Auto vertical auto horizontal keystone correction is perfect
Very clear and crisp sound quality
Highly recommended
Bought this to replace the Nebula Capsule we returned which was basically unwatchable.
For the extra 250 or so we paid to get this to replace the capsule, it outperforms the capsule in every conceivable way.
300 lumens is perfectly suitable for most situations, though does start to struggle in a room with medium light. Watchable up to a point and then starts to look washed out, but we are only intending to use it for movie nights in a dark room or in the garden once the light fades.
Auto focus works well, simple to use interface, no native netflix but the xtv workaround works very easily and reliably. Auto vertical keystone correction is good, manual horizontal keystone is good too, but a little fiddly. Though once done, works well and easily returns to default at the click of a button. Very simple remote too, but the android TV remote app works too and has the added plus of using the keyboard on your phone rather than frantically clicking all over the place with the remote and the on screen keyboard. Google assistant works reliably too.
The native 1080p resolution with 4k support is brilliant. Though it doesn’t play 4k content in actual 4k, it replicates it very well indeed. Had it projecting a silly big screen on our grey living room wall and it was a very crisp image still.
Great form factor and very reasonable sound production from the built in speakers, though you can connect to an external sound system by either Bluetooth or 3.5mm jack.
I see lots of boo-hooing feedback online for this saying that 300 lumens isnt any good etc. If you want a 2000 lumen projector, your looking at a cost well above what this costs and the portability will be gone with it. Just bear in mind what this is and its intention of being good quality and portable rather than a full blown home cinema. I am yet to find a situation other than in medium light or more that renders this unwatchable. Highly recommended!
Wow, wow, wow! I’m impressed and speechless. I’ve tried many projectors before XGIMI and this one is totally the best. Perfect brightness and contrast. Excellent connection with all external devices, for example with external hard disk, usb, mobile phone etc.
Good battery lasting for 2h watching without charging.
Wonderful and amazing product!
Really happy, finally I found what I was looking for so long.
Leading up to the purchase of the new MOGO Pro+, XGIMI’s customer service were extremely helpful and knowledgeable.
The family absolutely love our new projector, now every Friday night is movie night, either in the living room or garden (the neighbours love it too).
Really enjoy having this projector. The image is high quality, sound good, and it’s been great to have it playing these evenings where we are more at home than ever. Cinematic feel. I use the projector with a Fire Stick and therefore the compatibility with Netflix, Amazon Prime, etc is easy to use. Easy feel to the controller and I find the projector setting easy and straightforward to use. A good buy!
Amazing product
Easy to use
Great quality
And very handy and fu
After extensive research on looking for the right bedroom projector that can also be used outdoors for watching while in the hot tub and not owning one before we decided on the XGIMI MoGo Pro over others on the market.
We got it in the Black Friday Deal and were a little bit reserved on what the quality would be like out of a little portable projector and if it would be bright enough in our bedroom.
Safe to say we were blown away by the brightness and detail projected with a true 1980 x 1080 True Full HD resolution. Looks great in a dark bedroom!
Android 9 is a great Operating system and happily accessing Amazon Prime, Youtube and running content from Amazon Fire-stick to watch Netflix and other apps with no problems at all.
Mirror streaming is fine too using the iPhone no issues at all.
We have successfully connected our JBL Xtreme Bluetooth speakers (which are paired together running in stereo) with no issues at all.
If your looking for a good portable projector that you can use in/outdoors or just for the bedroom as a TV Projector to watch movies/TV then this certainly ticks the boxes.
Best purchase this year !!!
I was looking for a upgrade for my old mini android projector from Droix
My criteria was
It needed to be full 1080p
I needed a 90 inch projection from 2.4m (to fit the screen/frame I had for my old projector
It needed to have better light levels so it doesn’t have to be a pitch black room
I first got suckered in to what I thought was a good deal on a lower price (sub 200) projector stating high lumins, high contrast ratio, sharp image ect – it certainly wasn’t, it had a sharp image in the centre and then the further out towards the corners the colour was dull and blurred which seems to be a common across many low price projectors reading other reviews
THIS WAS RETURNED THE NEXT DAY
I then came across the Xgimi Mogo, everything matched what I was looking for although maybe a little more than I wanted to spend
*Delivery was quick
*Picture quality is very crisp throughout with great colour, auto focus and keystone works great
*I get the projection size I wanted
*the inbuilt speaker is very good although I find it better linked up to external surround sound speakers
*android 9 works very well and easy to work around the Netflix issue with a firestick (same issue with most projectors as far as i am aware)
*works in low lit room well and is excellent when the lights are off
*although it isn’t my intention to move it around too much it feels well made and very compact
*very quiet fan noise compared to my previous 2 projectors
Verdict: you get what you pay for and although there will be better projectors out there, they will carry a high price tag – this projector was spot on for what I needed and would definitely recommend i
Have been super pleased with this product…even more so when I found out it can connect to my MUSo speakers, it really makes the viewing experience even better. The internal speaker is fine for bedroom watching but for the lounge the connectivity is a game changer. Can’t fault the picture quality but it’s really only watchable when the room is dark (or the curtains are drawn). I have found the keystone correction very helpful meaning that I can have it besides the sofa rather than in front of it… I’d say get one and would be gob smacked if you were disappointed
Have had this (Mogo Pro, not Mogo or Mogo Pro+) a few weeks now and I’m really enjoying it. It’s my first projector so I can’t say how it compares to the bigger, lamp type projectors. I can tell you that if you’re using this at night with the lights out it’s plenty bright as long as you plug it into the wall. If you use the battery you lose a lot of brightness. 3D works after making necessary adjustments (not difficult). I don’t use apps or streaming so can’t comment on that. I use the HDMI input with a blu ray player. At times, I’ve experienced audio being out of sync. The auto focus is excellent as is the auto keystone, however it only does auto vertical keystone. I wish it had auto horizontal keystones as well (the Mogo Pro Plus has that). Internal speaker is loud enough but I run it into my stereo. I wish the remote had a mute button. Color is very strong…I had to bring the saturation way down. Reds are still too strong. I wish it had a hue control. The red, green and blue controls are there but a simple “tint” control would have been nice as well. The clarity of the picture is extremely impressive. Fan is very quiet. It sure don’t take up much space. I did a lot of research and it came down to this or the Viewsonic M2, which I’m still curious about. But I like the XGIMI and their customer service is superb. Also, they ship incredibly fast.
Upgraded from xgimi z3, and has been very happy. Having android tv built in means you have easy access to all the apps you need. Although it’s not as bright as Halo, Mogo Pro has the advantage of its light weight and portability. The audio quality out of the box is also great, plus noise from the fan is almost unnoticeable.
The MoGo Pro is my third projector now (I had a cheap, massive one initially, which was very loud, and then a Viewsonic M1, which was fine but the focus kept falling away – plus it was only 480p) so I wanted a projector that gave a native 1080p, had built-in wi-fi, and was small/quiet enough to use in my bedroom without being drowned out by fan noise.
The MoGo Pro meets all these requirements well. I use it on a white painted wall in my bedroom (which has decent blackout blinds) and it does the trick superbly. It’s not bright enough to use in daylight, but then without spending a fortune, or getting a huge unit, that’s not unusual and so not a drawback if you approach it with realistic expectations (in my case, it was for watching in bed at night).
Android TV is fine and responsive (it doesn’t have native Netflix support, but a cheap Firestick in the HDMI slot solves this easily enough) and the onboard speakers are superb given the size of the unit – I never have it above 2/3rds volume and that’s more than loud enough to fill the room and drown out the fan noise.
I don’t use it without mains power, so can’t talk about the battery life, but I do like the portability – I’ve taken it to my girlfriend’s house and projected to the ceiling (as she doesn’t have a tv) and it works perfectly. The automatic focus is fantastic and being able to adjust the keystone corners individually is very helpful too.
Overall, a great little unit – the lack of native Netflix support is literally the only drawback, but it’s an easy one to get around. I’m hoping that in a few years a 4k version will become available, as that’ll be my next upgrade.
I had been searching for a projector for some months and after trying out and returning at least 4 or 5 other projectors I finally decided to pay a little extra and give the Xgimi Mogo Pro a try. All the previous projectors I tried had favourable reviews but they were either too loud and noisy, had user interfaces that were very basic, had apps that crashed or they simply delivered poor picture quality.
When the Xgimi Mogo Pro arrived the first thing that struck me was the quality of the packaging and the product itself. It far exceeded the previous projectors I had tried and immediately felt like a more premium product. After turning it on and taking just a few minutes to pair the remote and log into my home Wi-Fi and Google account I was immediately amazed by the ease of use. Everything was easy to navigate and set-up. The apps were also much more stable and worked seamlessly. I was able to get my WWE Network, Disney+, and Amazon Prime Video accounts up and running in no time. One downside was the lack of Netflix compatibility but there was a work around for that and I soon had Netflix on board. It would also be very easy for me to add one of my Amazon Firesticks to the projector via the HDMI port so that was another option that had me covered.
Going through various apps and watching a number of different things I was also very pleased with the picture quality. It was far and above any of the previous projectors. Brightness during the day was a little questionable but a few tweaks made things better and I only really planned on using the projector in darker environments anyway and that was where it performed the best with no brightness issues.
One of the main things I had bought the projector for was to create my own home cinema set-up and to watch the vast library of DVD discs I have on a bigger screen. All the previous projectors I tried failed miserably to deliver decent DVD picture quality when hooked up via HDMI so I was eager to see how the picture would look via my DVD player. The Xgimi Mogo Pro was a revelation. The DVDs I tried looked better than they ever have and far better than they did on the 4K TV I have in the lounge! I tried it with a variety of films; old black and white films, subtitled films, some animated films and a few modern blockbusters. All of them looked great. I can only imagine how good Blu-ray would look.
Sound quality was also very decent and whilst it’s not room filling it is perfectly decent for everyday viewing. There is an option to add external speakers or a soundbar and there is also Bluetooth compatibility and the option to use wired headphones. I intend to do most of my watching at night so I will be using headphones mostly. Sound quality via the headphones was very good and again, much better that the other projectors I tried.
I was also very pleased with the quietness of the unit. The fan is very discrete and was only slightly noticeable when I used it on a very hot day. As soon as the sound is on it drowns the fan noise out anyway.
So in summary the Xgimi Mogo Pro shows that the extra expense is money very well spent.
Picture quality is amazing, it’s so easy to use, and the unit is very quiet in operation.
This is a premium product and is really worth it if you can go that little bit extra and avoid the cheaper 200 price range projectors as they really come no way near to the quality of the Xgimi Mogo Pro.
I highly recommend the Xgimi Mogo Pro.
I’ve been on a lookout for a portable projector for a long time and I ended up buying both Mogo pro and Halo. I got them a lot cheaper on XGIMI official website using discount code: 202001ANKIT might be helpful for some. I really wanted to share my views here if anyone is facing the dilemma
Even though I love the halo more for its brightness, better sound, etc. What mogo solves which is portability is not really solved by Halo as it’s not truly portable. Mogo can simply be carried in a backpack.
Mogo vs the halo huge difference in brightness and colors I’ll be honest the halo its contrast is a bit low with the higher light output. See Images for picture and size comparison.
Pros:
* Good brightness for a portable projector (best in this class)
* Lightweight and portable
* Decent sound quality (you can still connect Bluetooth speakers)
* 1080p full hd decent for the projection size
* Android TV interface with lots of app options (amazon prime was recently added)
Cons:
*Battery life is bad, just lasts 2 hours as opposed to 4 hours promised.
* No Netflix support yet but there’s a workaround through Aptoid Market.
* No tripod, 3d glasses or cases included for the price.
This item must be the best purchase I have EVER made. It is just amazing. Android TV makes it the full package. Item is very classy and well worth the money. Anyone who buys this won’t be disappointed. Picture quality and sound is perfect even in a well lit room and also produces huge image of over 150 inches with no pixels showing. Absolutely blown away by this projector.
Great projector cant fault it , amazing quality however apps Like Netflix don’t work properly and always come up with errors . Edit – They have now fixed the Netflix problem with a recent update. Projector still going strong 1 year on , no issues Buy one !!!
one thing I like about this product is 360 degrees autofocus is unbelievable one touch of a button the whole screen is covered, I gave 4 stars ratings because of the battery is very weak you can’t rely on it as they said on the review for me, its has to plug in the socket to have a quality bright pictures apart from that its a great product to have.
ordered this projector which arrived with no power plug in box ? had the powerpack in box but no wall plug ! how are you supposed to charge it if you dont have a cable ! have a laptop with same plug which i tried but the projector wont hold a charge, red light comes on then is supposed to turn green when fully charged but not in 45 mins or less and the light would go off completely which points at a defective unit as it wont charge properly, battery indicator is visible on homescreen and dropped to half power in seconds ! was in normal mode not full brightness is it not supposed to last 3-4 hrs on battery mode ?? anyway ive sent this back for a refund and to be honest i really liked this projector and im 50/50 whether to chance it on another one, maybe its just bad luck getting a defective one,if this worked ok with no problems then my rating would be higher,i purchased another one as the size is perfect for travel and this one works with no faults and it came with the power leads so my rating has changed
As someone who travels frequently, I love portable projectors. Wherever you are, so long as there is a white wall, you can have a big screen experience with little hassle. These portable projectors will never provide the same experience as a full-sized mains powered unit, but the Xgimi Mogo Pro gets very close. Indeed, this can almost rival the native 1080p mains powered projector I reviewed a few months back. To say this is possible in such a small package is quite frankly remarkable. But portable projectors such as these are not without their drawbacks. It is important to consider your use case carefully before splashing out on a device like the Xgimi Mogo, or any other comparable system.
First things first, the design is excellent. Unlike some systems offered by other manufacturers, the Mogo Pro feels well made and premium. The semi-aluminium design does not feel too heavy in the hand, but is substantial enough to prevent any visible movement when using the built in speaker during action-intensive moments. This is an issue all the previous projectors in this category have had to some degree (at least the ones I have tried). The design is very simple overall. The speakers are contained in the base of the unit, all the IO ports (including USB 2.0 and HDMI) are on the rear alongside a heat exhaust. There is also a standard sized tripod mount on the bottom and a limited selection of touch sensitive buttons on the top including volume controls and pause/play. One of the main drawbacks of this projector is the lack of USB-C for charging — the Mogo instead opts for a DC port. I wish they’d stuck to industry standards when developing the projector to minimise how many cables you have to carry around when on the go. The remote control is excellent but lacks backlighting which would have been a nice touch. It works reliably and can be used to manually or automatically re-focus the projector if needed via a button on the bottom of the controller. The remote is needed to operate the Mogo unless you opt to use the Android TV remote app from Play Store.
The Mogo uses Android TV 9.0 at time of writing. This is a great user experience which offers full integration with Google services including YouTube and Play Store. The latter is quite limited in content at the moment but still provides most of the basics needed for a media device. I have side-loaded Aptiode to ensure I have access to all the apps I have become accustomed to with previous portable projectors — all of which relied on Aptiode for an app marketplace. Digital keystone (used to make the picture square when this cannot be otherwise achieved) works brilliantly. Unlike many other projectors, the Mogo allows for an image to be corrected both vertically and horizontally using a ‘four point’ method, meaning you can get a perfect picture even when the projector is placed at an angle. Remember that using digital keystone greatly reduces image clarity so this is best avoided if possible. Nice to have, though. Autofocus works great too, but can struggle a little when using vertical and horizontal keystone correction. Luckily, adjusting this is super easy from the remote. When using the projector straight on I have found it to be very accurate. The battery life when mains are unplugged is pretty average and depends greatly on your brightness settings. On full brightness (Custom > 100% brightness) expect around one and a half hours max. On 75% just shy of two hours. Acceptable, but not great. Just about enough for one movie. In a pitch black room you can go down to around 30% brightness before colour accuracy is lost. This allows for somewhere between two and a half to three hours. More would be ideal, but honestly I usually just leave it plugged in.
Image quality is superb for such a compact device. The new Texas Instruments DLP chip is streets ahead of previous offerings. It produces crisp images using pixel-shifting technology — essentially upscaling the image to 1080p through diagonally shifting pixels at high speed. The effect of this is a higher quality image than would otherwise be achievable. Lots of projectors employ this technology to boost image quality — indeed many lower cost 4k projectors achieve a higher resolution through pixel shifting. When paired with a good quality screen, the Xgimi Mogo Pro really shines. Detail is crisp, although in busy scenes some detail can be lost when compared to a conventionally sized native 1080p projector. When paired with a blu-ray player or an Amazon Fire Stick (with framerate matching enabled), it will play content at 24hz for a smoother picture. This is an excellent feature which many larger and more expensive projectors do not yet support. It also allows for input passthrough, so the Mogo’s controller can be used to navigate menus on external devices. I find the 300 ANSI lumen to be more than adequate for a dark room at 80-100″ (I have found 80″ to be the sweet spot — see pictures). Do not expect to be able to use this projector in a room with higher levels of ambient light. It may work, but lots of detail will be lost. Images included in this review show picture quality in near darkness and low ambient light for comparison. If you want to use the projector with lights turned on, consider a brighter permanently mains powered projector instead. Sound quality is the best I have heard from a portable projector. Bass levels are decent but not spectacular. Despite this, sound is crisp and well balanced. Many other projectors sound washed out at high volumes — this is not the case with the Mogo. I am more than happy to watch a movie using just the internal speakers. I even use it to play music in the background when completing household tasks. Even though most portable projectors offer this feature, this is the first time I have felt compelled to actually use it.
In conclusion, I really love my Mogo Pro. I backed it through crowdfunding and although I was very anxious that I would be throwing my money down the drain, I have certainly not been disappointed. Xgimi have almost made this a perfect product and I have no doubt the competition will have a big challenge trying to make something that can rival the Mogo Pro. Whether you should buy this depends on what you plan to use it for. If you want a projector to stay in one place at home, or work in an environment with higher levels of ambient light, choose one with higher luminosity that is mains powered. If you want the best picture quality on the market for this price-point, do your research and find a high quality 1080p full-sized alternative. But if you want a portable projector for lower light levels that offers the flexibility of Android TV, an internal battery, a good speaker system and very good picture quality — the Mogo Pro might be just what you need. It literally is a pint-sized home cinema experience.
The proyector resolution is really good and easy to use. The weak points would the sound quality and the battery which runs out every 3 hours or so. Also there’s no Netflix app as of yet, hopefully it comes up soon as casting it from a computer wouldn’t be full HD. Overall it’s a very good proyector, needs improvement on the sound though.
I’ve been waiting for this projector to be available in UK for a while after watching their campaign on Indiegogo. As someone who enjoys a minimalistic way of life, this smart mini projector is simply amazing. The design is simple and clean. I don’t need to buy a TV because the projector already has Android TV built-in with Google Assistant control. The picture quality is good: clear and bright, with a high resolution of 1080P. Just check out my pictures! However, I recommend using it in a dark environment, as 300 ANSI lumens is not suitable for use in daylight.
The battery is enough for me to finish watching a 2 hour long movie. I use my iPhone to airplay movies or watch Netflix through Fire stick most of the time after finding out that the built-in Netflix doesn’t work. Keystone correction is a real life saver especially when I am in my bedroom projecting from the side. A gentle reminder that there is a need to manually adjust the keystone when using side projection. The device is really quiet, and I hardly notice any noise when it is working.
What I don’t like:
-No prime video. I find that prime video can’t be installed. The customer service told me they will get certification from amazon next year. I’ll just wait since Hulu and Netflix works well
-DC charger. Type C will be much more convenient. However, I find that DC charger is much brighter after plugging in. Fortunately the battery is enough for a full movie, so I do not actually take the charger with me most of the time.
Overall, this mini projector is what I am looking for, and I highly recommend it to anyone who is interested.
22 December, Update of review:
First of all, I continue to absolutely love the XGIMI MOGO PRO. It has an excellent picture even without being beamed to a canvas – straight to the wall will do. And today it received a system update (the second since I own it) this time adding a bluetooth out functionality a really big deal!
After I posted my initial review here I was contacted by a well spoken, polite XGIMI representative (Holly Pi) who told me that XGIMI believes in good customer service and that I would receive the carrying bag as promised in the XGIMI European promotion and a tabletop tripod (29 value) to make up for my experience. Holly also explained that XGIMI has a dedicated Amazon customer service and to be sure to contact them via the Amazon website, which I had previously not done. True to her word I received the carrying bag and tripod within 3 days and Holly followed up one more time that I had received them. All in a very professional way, a pleasure to be in contact with. I have changed the rating from 3 to 5 stars.
First of all, the device is great, has excellent sound and picture. However, you will need an Amazon Fire TV stick 4K to get best quality out of it. However, the claimed 24 hours friendly customer service is not so. The answers come greatly delayed. Also, I purchased the beamer during a XGIMI promotion, where XGIMI offered a free case valued at 69 (overpriced). I made sure that I met the conditions when I purchased the beamer by checking the websites. Well, I didn’t receive the case, and now XGIMI claims that no promotion was ongoing on the 28th, even though they told me initially I would only receive the free case if I had purchased on the 28th. When I submitted proof, the story changed, now the purchase had to have occurred on the 29th.
