After researching wireless Airplay adapters I opted for this one based on price and overall good reviews. I was a little apprehensive after some reviews said it was slow to connect, but I needn’t have worried.
It was simple to install, (couple of minutes at most), it sits neatly where I’ve got it, (could stick it somewhere but I’m happy with it as it is), and best of all it just works. When I get in the car and start the engine it’s connected and ready to play by the time I reverse off my, (very short), driveway.
After a few weeks use the only minor niggle has been once when it froze, but simply unplugging it and plugging it back it resolved it immediately. Given that Bluetooth can experience drop outs anyway this has not affected my enjoyment of this product.
Some people comment on the fact it doesn’t charge your phone, I was fully aware of this, and actually welcomes the fact. I charge my phone overnight, so when I get in my car at morning the last thing I need is to have it charging again. I keep a charging lead in the car anyway, so if I get caught short I can still charge if I need to.
If you’re looking to add wireless to your factory installed carplay then this product ticks all the boxes, I feel it’s a tad pricey for what it is, but compared to other similar items it represents the best value at this time for a wireless CarPlay adapter.
This is a handy little adapter that worked perfectly for us. The instructions were clean and basic and didn’t take long to set up. Would recommend!
Before you buy this device make sure you’re motor got carplay. This device not gonna turn a non carplay stereo into carplay but can make a wired stereo to wireless. Adapter is easy to install and works perfect. Overall a good device, works well and easy to setup but expensive. At the time of review this product was available for 79.99 plus extra 20% off voucher.
Pros and Cons
Pros:
Well made item
Easy to install / setup
Small and portable
Lightweight
Cons:
Bit pricey
Note it WILL NOT give your car CarPlay if you haven’t got it. It will simply allow your already installed CarPlay to be used wirelessly.
I was skeptical at first and I debated getting this adapter because it seemed like a trend with all these new CarPlay adapters. But, I am so happy that I did. Plugged it in, connected my phone within minutes, and voila! It’s been an eye-opener.
I had a fear that it would be incompatible with my car, but it was so easy to set up.
I think it’s a little pricey.
The CarPlay adapter comes with everything you need to get started, once installed (which took minutes) it was easy to connect to and start playing my favourite songs directly from my phone via the car.
“Long Story Short”
Pair with an ease
Small device with powerful potential
Sounds are great
Great value for money, well recommended
Value for money 10 out of 10
I’ve not really used my carplay after the novelty of plugging in my phone every time got old. Quite sad really that All the functionality is there but leaning over to plug my phone in every time I got in.
So how easy is this to use?
Very.
Pop this where the plug goes into the car.
Pair your phone to it via bluetooth.
And your done.
Once your done on the initial set up, the next time is as easy as well just getting in the car.
It works well, not had any issues with it not connecting or draining the cars batteries.
Its like my cars got a new head unit due to the apps and new things I can have on it.
Great little box
Works well with my car and does everything you need from apple car play. After all these new road rules and regulations it is best you just plug your phone in this device and dont pick it up or touch it until you have parked up and it does everything you need on cars own screen. Very simple to use and 100% recommended! I hope my review was helpful
Recently I bought a two year old Kia Piccanto as a run around for my wife and I. It’s suprisingly well kitted out, including Apple’s CarPlay which is becomming more and more popular. There are some cars that have this feature and are able to connect wirelessly to it, however the majority appear to need a physical connection via the car’s USB port and a cable to Apple’s Lightning or Android’s USB port on your phone.
While it’s only a minor inconveniance to plug your phone in, it feels like something you shouldn’t need to do so it quickly becommes an irritance. When I searched for alternatives I was surprised at how few options there were, and how expensive they were too.
What AWESAFE Wireless CarPlay Adapter does it create the physical connection to your car’s USB port, and then makes a wireless connection to your phone, simplistically speaking. Does it work?
Well, yes, it does. And quite well too.
I’ve uploaded a video to accompany this review which shows me setting it up on my wife’s phone for the first time. I’d already been using it on my own phone for a few weeks to try it out. To set it up you plug the adapter into your car’s USB port and after a moment the car’s entertainment system will detect it. You’ll then need to open the settings on your phone and go to the CarPlay section (if you can’t find it on iOS, drag down from the top and type CarPlay and it’ll take you there). If you’ve previously set up CarPlay on your phone before you’ll see the original connection, but there should now be a second connection available. In my case it was simply called “CarPlay”, while my original one was “Kia”. Press the new connection (I miss-pressed it in the video and sat waiting for something to happen) and press “Pair”. Allow it to sync with your contacts if you want to be able to access your phone’s contact details. You should now be connected.
At this point after a moment or two CarPlay should appear on your car’s entertainment screen. If you’ve used CarPlay before you may notice that your shortcuts aren’t where they were before. If you’d set them up to your own liking previously then you’ll need to do that again. The car presumes that because this is a different connection it’s a different driver who may want things laid out differently. Go back into the CarPlay settings on your app. Go into the adapter’s connection, choose customise and move the apps around as you see fit.
It should now all work as it did with a physical connection. When you turn on the car’s ignition there will be a moment where everything is turning on and searching for each other but you shouldn’t need to do anything yourself. After 10-15 seconds you should be away.
It’s a lot of money for something to replace a cable, but after you’re used to going wireless you’ll not want to go back. Other than a few moments on the first drive out where the screen dipped out for a fraction of a second it’s worked really well. I’m close to giving it five stars on its performance, but it is still an expensive item for what it is, despite being very good.
This is a nice device to use. Easy to install and great value for money.
For the money this does a decent job in my 2016 VW Passatt with CarPlay. It took about three minutes to unbox, install and set up so no issues there (I am quite a techie person). My niggles are: 1. that it sometimes take two or three minutes to recognise a 2022 iPhone SE is in the car and switched on compared to the thirty seconds or less when I using a simple cable connection. 2. that the resolution of the display on the screen appears to be lower than it should be for a while after connecting. Don’t get me wrong, I like the cable-free connection and once I have been driving for maybe three or four minutes it is absolutely fine. I love that it is really small and sits in the centre console hidden from sight. Good value for money and I doubt that the lighting cable will get used again any time soon.
This is a small box, about 65mm by 40mm by 15mm, which offers much more than you’d think just by looking at it.
It’s designed to connect your phone to your car stereo through what is called “carplay”
There’s many cars out there which this works on but there’s also many which don’t, so check your car first before investing in this.
It’s pretty simple to set up, even though the instructions aren’t really that helpful. Just plug this into your cars USB port and connect your phone to this by Bluetooth. Once connected you’re on your way.
This helps you control your car stereo settings from your phone, which it does, but, for me, it was pretty pointless for the car I drive at the moment. Every setting on my cars stereo can be controlled by voice as well as touch. But not all cars have that capability. And for those cars this may work quite well.
There’s no bells and whistles, no wiring, no hassles at all. This plugs in and sets itself up using Bluetooth to connect to your phone.
In all, a fine, small box which helps you connect to your cars settings through your phone. If your car supports carplay then this may well be something you may like. But is it worth the 79.99 price tag (at time of writing)? Well, for me, no, but for others this may well be a good price as this does work perfectly well in what it’s designed to do.
This doesn’t look particularly inspiring, but the build quality is reasonable and it does the job well. Connection is very simple; plug it in, turn on CarPlay and select Bluetooth on your phone to connect. The instructions say that it could take about 30 seconds, but for me, it was instant. You do need to have the original car operating system, original car touchscreen and CarPlay with USB port, together with an iPhone, or this won’t work for you. The usability was spot on, and it did everything that it was supposed to do.
At the time of writing this review, the cost is 79.99, which is about right for what you get.
Please note that wireless CarPlay will only work if your vehicle already has wired CarPlay installed, it will not magically give your vehicle CarPlay if the original software isn’t installed on your vehicle.
If your vehicle satisfies the above requirements then this little device works well. It recognised my phone straight away and following the on-screen props I’ve now got a wireless CarPlay vehicle.
My car has wired CarPlay and I have been using a plug in wireless adapter for a while and then suddenly it would not connect. Tried changing cables, restarting the adapter and my iPhone 12 and nothing. Checked the makers website to find a small note saying it would not work with latest iPhone software updates !!
Back to wired CarPlay and this adapter was offered as a Vine item. Wondered whether the software problem was something affecting all adapters but found that it did not. This one works perfectly.
The “installation” instructions involve plugging it into the car (a Mazda MX5), turning on CarPlay and checking Bluetooth on the phone to connect. My phone found it and connected straight away and then the instructions ay it could take about 30 seconds before the phone connects to the adapter the first time. It actually took about one second and everything works perfectly, including sending Hey Siri messages through the car microphone.
I was quite happy with the old adapter when it worked but it could take about the first mile of driving to connect but this one, so far, is up and running within a few seconds of turning on the ignition. If you have wired CarPlay it is definitely worth looking at.
This connected so easily in my 2021 Subaru Forester with navigation. No need to read the tiny directions. Just plug it in and follow the on screen prompts.
