Multi-Channel WAV Format For optimal read/write performance on a huge variety of SD and SDHC cards, X-LIVE uses standard uncompressed 32-bit PCM format multi-channel WAV files. An X-LIVE recording session may consist of either one or several takes, and capture up to a maximum of 24 hours of consistent recording or playback. Multi-channel WAV files can be imported directly into most popular DAW applications, including the free open source audio editor Audacity. You can even export your 32-bit WAV files, which allows you to prepare backing tracks offline, such as when you’re away from your X-LIVE equipped X32 mixer. | On Your Mark… Markers can be set at any time during recording, playback â or even while in pause mode. Session loading and marker selection can easily be manipulated via assignable controls, or remotely via apps, X-TOUCH control surfaces, or even MIDI. Once you set a marker roughly where you want it, a dedicated utility lets you fine-tune it for those occasions when playback requires the ultimate precision, such as alignment with specific transients in your audio. A convenient pre-listen feature helps you place any marker at an exact point in time. Utilities also allow deleting sessions/markers or formatting an SD card, which is always a good idea before recording any important performance. And virtual sound-checks have never been easier, especially when you use X-LIVEâs powerful marker and remote control functionality. | Powerful Live-Playback Machine Assigning X-LIVE controls to X32 user buttons provides a great way to instantly jump to and play performance markers, delivering powerfully dynamic content to live theatrical events. Operations that previously required hardware samplers, or sophisticated software running on dedicated computers, can now easily be done right on your X32, from a tiny SD card that takes up virtually no room at all. | The Real Deal X-LIVE turns your X32 into a powerful, 32-track recording console that retains all of its incredible live sound mixing functionality, features that are still available â even while recording the same live show you’re dialing to a packed house. And that amazing performance can bring out the âwowâ in your studio recording applications, too. With over 3 hours of uncompressed 32-channel WAV files on 2 SD/SDHC cards, you can easily capture a large production live show â without getting anywhere near a HDD. Check out the X-LIVE and X32 at your Behringer dealer, or get yours online today. X-LIVE will empower your performance â and your imagination… |
This board is working as expected and sound great. I am told that they don’t last long and give a lot or trouble but I will prove for myself. So far great board worth the cost.
Bought this for my X32 rack and it was easy to fit. Works brilliantly when you finally get everything right on the rack and the recordings sound like studio quality
Operating in a medium sized church replacing an old 14/16 input Behringer Xenyx 2442. Initial setup is a little daunting to someone like me who is used to a manual board (always remember to press SELECT on the channel you want to EQ etc!) but there is excellent help online (particularly look up Drew Brashler on YouTube to cover a good 90% of the functionality of the X32). Currently being used in conjunction with a Behringer SD16 16in/8out stagebox for the praise group. All existing inputs in the church are assigned to the first page group 1-16 and all the inputs from the SD16 are assigned to the second page group 17-32. The digital customisable scribble strip means no need for masking tape and markers and the ability to save a load state onto a memory pen means no matter who makes a mess of the settings, it can always be fixed by switching off and on again. Can also be controlled remotely via wifi with the X32 app on a tablet or phone (phone not ideal, bigger tablet screen recommended.) Well worth the money. Has USB interface as standard for using with a DAW or multi track recording on a PC. However for me, also worth purchasing is the X-Live SD expansion card for multi track recording stored on the X32; it’s an extra 300 including SD card but it means you will be able to record all 32 channels simultaneously for a “virtual sound check” at another time, this will give the inexperienced users a chance to practice mixing and for the more experienced users to fine tune signal processing like EQ, noise gates, compressors, effects, the list is endless – all without requiring an external computer loaded with software. There are much more capable boards out there but this one is bang on the money for price vs functionality. Would recommend to any house of worship for live use or even a small time band looking to produce their own demos. Also if you’re on a limited budget there is the smaller version for a few hundred less, the X32 Compact which has all the same functionality except for having 4 pages of 8 input groups rather than 2 pages of 16 like this model, or the rack mounted X32 Producer which is designed to be controlled using the app. Personally I like having as many inputs accessible at once as possible so this X32 is my preferred choice, probably a hangover from my years using manual boards. Comes with a flimsy cover bag but if you’re using it on the road I recommend getting a solid flightcase for it, or if you’re installing it permanently on a media table I recommend looking up the hard plastic cover from Decksaver, big money for moulded plastic but worth it (just note if you do use the Decksaver lid that you will need a low profile USB stick to fit underneath it if you are using a load state.) not much else I can tell you other than buy one and give it a whirl!
Goes in the Midas M32R and it records. It can take much more capacious SD cards than Behringer state. You just have to format then on your computer to FAT32. I use 128GB cards and format them with guiformat.exe
This card should just be included with new X32s to begin with. I bought this so I could record our band’s rehearsals for review of song arrangements between rehearsals. Installation couldn’t be simpler. I have the SD cards on order so we’ll see how it goes. From what I’ve read it works perfectly. As others have indicated, this card only gives you bulk record capabilities. It doesn’t turn your X-32 into a DAW. Punch in/outs, overdubs, etc. are not doable with this card. But really, you should be doing that in your DAW anyway. This card just makes it easy to capture the audio, and tag it so you can edit it down later in your DAW, which suits my use case just fine. I did not add the CR123A battery backup in the card because I have the mixer on a battery backup power supply. Plus it’s not mission critical if the recording didn’t complete correctly because of a power outage. That would be the least of my concerns on a live gig.
Upgraded from an X32 and the preamps and quality is night and day difference. Alot more smooth and less ear fatigue. We get compliments all the time now. Its nothing like x32 as far setups and routing but it takes a little getting used to. Once you get it YOU’LL LOVE IT
Superb bit of kit. Once you’ve got it set up it’s easy, just hit record. No more fumbling around on a computer! Pay attention to your routing though. There is a load of videos online to help you. Excellent bit of kit and you get to hear yourself exactly as you were on that evening!
Bought to add 16 more inputs to my X32 rack mixer. Works great, I did need the proper ethernet cable, tried with a normal CAT6 but it wouldn’t stay connected. Manual is a bit scarce on detail, which mode to select on the S16 wasn’t clear, I did it by trial and error.
Great multi-track direct recording to SD cards and what appears to be lower latency performance than I was getting with the original factory usb card.
Awesome tool for live recording on M/X32 consoles. Setup instructions difficult to follow. After a simple installation, it took me over an hour to get a something recorded that I could play back due to the patching options.
das macht das Aufnehmen einzelner Spuren jetzt richtig einfach – prima Behringer!
Flipping incredible piece of engineering. Absolute credit to behringer even if they had a wobbly past this console absolutely pulls them out of the dirt and puts them back into the market of affordable digital gear. I use this for contract work around England and it’s amazing, rugged, fairly lightweight and along with a flight case it is brilliant to move around easily. I got the compact hoping that features weren’t compromised and I was absolutely correct. Brilliant piece of kit. My one and only complaint however is that there is a tiny dead pixel on the lcd screen towards the top right hand side and although isn’t a problem i would just suggest that maybe Behringer’s quality control should maybe be slightly tighter.
I’m pastor at a small poor baptist church in Brazil, and this snake is great value for money. It came in “like new” state, working in perfect conditions. Couldn’t be better!
Equals the larger format X32 in smaller package although it is useful to have both for different duties. This desk also covers spare stand in capacity for both the X32 & XAIR therefore maximising its user ability and overall use.
Another great product from Behringer with all the effects and dynamic processing on board with excellent response times. The Midsas preamps are also absolutely excellent.
Update: two years later, I’m just as happy with this mixer as i was before, and even more. It has become as an extension of my hands, i use it with the s16, and a cat5e cable (50 meters long) with out any problem.
Update:
I’ve been using this for over three years now without any problems! This is a much better desk than other digital 16-32 channel mixers in the same range of price. I’ve been using it with two S16 units, and it is just fantastic.
Yes, there is a very steep learning curve if, as I was, you are coming “new” to digital having previously only experienced using an analogue mixer; the modus operandi of a digital desk is fundamentally the same as an analogue, but with a much greater level of control of the sound. (For new users, there are a number of excellent YouTube videos explaining, often in considerable detail, how to operate specific features of the desk.)
My purchase was for a church, where its assignability and multiple outputs, including the Ultranet connection for using Behringer P16m personal monitor mixers, have meant that all the different inputs and outputs are now much easier to control and the “sound” in the church is very much improved, a fact acknowledged even by those who were unsure whether spending money on the system was “really worth it”.
I won’t begin to try and list all the facilities this desk offers the live sound engineer, but will highlight three that are especially useful to a church: the number of independent outputs, 16, which means that all the different feeds and mixes that may be needed can be easily created; the ability to create up to 6 “Mute Groups”, which allow any combination of inputs to be instantly muted/unmuted; the facility to create complete snapshots of all the settings on the desk (including fader positions) so that one or more “standard set-ups” can be created and instantly recalled at the touch of a button.
Some 3rd party developed an Android app to control the X32 systems and it’s better than the official Behringer app for iPad in my opinion. I mix with my crappy android tablet or even my phone if for quick adjustments and it’s easier than borrowing one of the band mate’s iPads. We look forward to having in ear monitors because each person can control their own monitor mix with their phone or tablet with this system. It also serves as a 16-input audio interface which will be really nice when we record our next album.
It’s just really nice to have a good mix in our practice space, turn everything off, pack up the case and bring it to the venue, and have a quicker setup time in addition to the fact that no knobs get bumped and I just have to make small adjustments for the room to get us sounding good.
Unbelievable value for money – paid 980 from Amazon (prime!) much cheaper than all of the so called music stores. I use my with a DAW, very low latency (sub 8 m/s roundtrip buffer 128) and great sound, I was on RME before and had considered going the ADAT route, but the X32 is just as good as the RME stuff for me at 48K. V2 software has some great effects and there are more than enough inputs for me (16 Midas pre’s and 8 aux in line). DAW HUI remote works as expected in Cubase and Live, but lately I have taken to sending all outputs to the desk (you can have 32 outs over the included USB I/O) and mixing on the X32….you can even record the stereo mix to a USB pen on the X32!
very nice mixer….and the price is excellent…not better on the market… of course you can pay a lot more for other ones…but is a LOT MORE. and the quality and potencial of this mixer is just outstanding.
Been using it now for over 3 months without a single wobble.
I have taken the precaution of using a UPS to ensure that smoothed power reaches it, but that’s perhaps a little over the top (Something else to carry around…)
My only gripe, and it is only minor, is that the faders are a little stiff sometimes, it’s as if they don’t quite sit properly, but these are getting smoother through use, so perhaps it’s just a new thing…
For a grand! you really can’t go wrong! Hell, I’ve paid more for lesser pre-amps in the past….
