Took beginner lessons 40 odd years ago, with a two keyboard/pedals full size organ thing. I was a little unsure about just getting a keyboard, but it works just as well. Chords can be either single finger or normal. Kind of in the process of learning all over again, but the odd thing stuck.

All in all great sound, fun demo songs, great rhythms and generally easy to use. Found if I get stuck with settings, the best thing is to switch it off/on again to just reset. Sometimes the control can be a little fiddly and hard to undo things you have done by mistake. And switching off/on gets it back to default settings.

Overall, watched various reviews first and very happy with my choice as a sort of beginner. Things have come a long way since when I was young. And the keyboard seems to incorporate everything, organ, synth, drum machine, sound recording … features are just endless. Very happy with my purchase.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersBonjour,

I had a couple of different keyboards before this one, but I consider this one my first genuine one. Keys at times have some detection issues but as a whole it sounds nice and is incredibly enjoyable to play.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThis piano is loaded with great features. The grand piano voice is very soothing and the best I’ve heard so far on a 61 keys mid-ranged keyboard. I would definitely recommend it for beginners.
The sound quality of the speakers is pretty spot on as well and its loud enough for a large room.
The esthetics of the keyboard are plane and simple no red, blue, yellow colored buttons (thank god).
However, the user manual is on another level altogether. It is as confusing as it gets. They could’ve done a better job at putting the manual together. Therefore, I’d give it 4 stars just because of the manual. It feels like I am reading a novel!

A well put together keyboard for beginners.

This keyboard is packed with great features and sounds.

Having played a fair amount of budget keyboards, this one stands head and shoulders above the rest.

The speakers are great quality, with a very good frequency range. The huge amount of built in sounds are very usable, particularly the synthesisers and piano sounds.

The additional pitch and modulation wheels are a great addition, giving more dynamic range to playing.

USB connectivity is great for using as a MIDI keyboard, or for direct recording.

A really high quality product that is worth the extra cost .

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersIt’s always difficult to choose a product based on the marketing videos and other online reviews. I also looked at the Yamaha and Korg equivalents and after a lot of thought I have made the right choice for me. When I first received it, the sounds were not great and nothing like the reviews. I was 99% certain it was going back to Amazon. However, I downloaded the latest firmware from Casio which just requires a USB stick and after following some simple upgrade instructions the quality improved significantly. I keep discovering new features and there is enough here to keep the interest level going and I am sure that the learning experience is half of the fun. As someone who also writes and creates original music, I was pleased to see that not only can I connect to a variety of midi devices, there are also additional patches online for Cubase, Sonos etc. I’ve not tried it on my iPad yet. I gave it four stars because the buttons are black which makes it very difficult to see what you are pressing in anything other than a well lit room. For basic improvisation where you just want to play along and let the keyboard do the work, the keyboard also has well over 200 pre-programmed backing tracks with the chords already programmed in and a suggested tone to start you off – you don’t even have to think about chords as it plays along quite happily on its own. Of course for the more creative times you can even program your own rhythms, backing tracks etc. I’ve not figured out everything yet but that’s part of the fun. Certainly it is playable straight out of the box and has the power to do much more if you want it to. I haven’t had any issues with reading the display either sat down or standing. There is a tip online to adjust the contrast which many people are not aware of.

This is a great medium sized keyboard. The sounds are plentiful as you would expect with extremely good quality. The styles and automated chords are great with each one having 4 variations, often becoming more complex. There is the facility to record songs by multi tracking which can start seeming complex but is great with practice. The manual is huge but very detailed and will take you step by step through the very many possibilities available with this keyboard.
For the price it is amazing..

This is a really lovely instrument.
The build quality is first class, and the key action is very good indeed. I suppose if you have been taught on a “real” piano you will take a little while to get used to this keyboard, but it will soon feel just as solid and responsive.
It is quite a large instrument, but is light enough to put away after each session. I have mine in my garden office, and it takes a few moments to set up and put away.
Well worth the effort though, as the sound quality is exceptional in every way.
As well as the numerous sounds on offer, built in, you can add your own as well. There is a usb socket for connection to a computer, a sheet music stand and a mains adaptor.
You really are ready to go as soon as you receive this.
You can also set the keyboard to allow you to play a different instrument with each hand – you would need to be a bit better than I am to take advantage of this feature!
There is a metronome feature, and you can play other sources out through the very good speakers.
There is also a headphone output for quiet practice.
Drum loops, voices, performance set ups – it’s all there.
    Five stars from me.

I’m still discovering this keyboard’s capabilities, however, I can say the C3 X-3000 has an excellent touch response from its weighted keys and a surprisingly impressive grand piano sound, delivering a bright but round tone with full-bodied bass notes. The sound does not distort even at maximum volume.

The range of different voices is superb – I particularly like the Chinese instruments in the Ethnic 2 bank – and the jazz rhythms are quite sublime. At present, it is in our music department at school where our Rock School Club have been experimenting with the range of sounds you can produce from this instrument – so it is getting a thorough testing. The only poor feature found so far is the on/off button, which is not always responsive.

    Keyboard

The Casio CT-X3000 has been great for us as total novices. The keyboard was extremely easy to set up and use for the first time, and despite the abundance of features and buttons it is relatively straightforward to navigate. The keys feel sturdy and are responsive when applying different amounts of pressure, simulating effectively the feel of a piano.

The keyboard feature a huge wealth of instrument sounds and all sorts of advanced features that we have yet to progress towards (however my 4 year old daughter has mastered how to make amusing sounds and, thus far, the keyboard is withstanding her rather heavy handed approach to playing music).

To this point, the only negative point we have discovered is the stand for the book at the back of the keyboard, which is a little on the flimsy side.

This is such a good quality keyboard. It does loads of fancy things but it’s the little things that show it is worth spending a bit more on a keyboard. The keyboard itself has fabulous keys that feel solid and piano like, the sound quality is significantly better than the keyboard we already have which was around the 120 mark.
This keyboard fits onto a standard keyboard stand and you can hook it up to your computer to record yourself. You can also put a usb stick in.
Overall a great buy if you’re wanting to get something for a musician, this is definitely worth the money.

Boy’s age 10 & 14 were made up to receive this. It’s bigger than expected, keyboard is very similar length to our piano keyboard with five octaves. They were quick to experiment without reading instructions and after it was quickly and easily unpacked and set up they were off.

Lovely sound quality and they enjoyed the special effects you could use.Metronome feature handy for keeping rhythm.
Will be very handy for practising music homework for performance now they are at high school and volume control very handy while they learn !.

Overall, if you like music it’s a lovely keyboard, we had a desk to put it on, but a stand would be very useful unless you have a suitable counter top to place it on. Music stand to balance sheet on is substantial and can be easily removed if playing from memory.

Very handy for people who’d love to play the piano, but don’t have the space too as is smaller but more than adequate size.
    Extremely happy to highly recommend

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersIn the box:
    * Keyboard
    * Separate UK 3 pin plug & transformer (taped to back of lower polystyrene packing blocks)
    * Music stand (under the keyboard if it comes out of the box right way up)
    * 315 page User’s Guide (and the good news is it only has two languages) There are 145 pages of English instruction. Plus some appendices and blank manuscript pages ready for you to start composing.

I have to say that I applaud Casio for providing such a thoroughly detailed A4 manual in the form of a physical book, rather than as a CD with a pdf file. It means I can curl up on my comfy chair and slowly work my way through it with occasional trips over to the keyboard to try stuff out.

I need to mention that I bought a Yamaha PSR-E363 just over a year ago so I can’t help but make comparisons. After a quick play with this Casio CT-X3000 the most noticeable difference is the quality and feel of the keys, with the Casio coming out way on top.

Having worked my way through the manual, I have to say it is very thorough, and to me, quite complicated. Though with keyboard at hand, and going through the steps slowly, it all works as described. There is just so much of it. It seems you can change just about everything, but most of it is through the Function list and that means scrolling through to get where you want. But you can change the pitch of notes; alter the attack, release and other aspects of the built in tones (instrument voices); and even record your own phrases to playback at the push of a button. There is just too much for me to even attempt to list here. Though how one remembers how to do all this on the fly while playing a tune is beyond me.

One feature I find really useful is the rotating dial at the bottom right of the LCD screen. This is a rapid scroll device that allows you to quickly zip through the many lists of items that appear on the screen.

There are 800 tones arranged in 19 groups (piano, accordion, guitar, brass) with an empty group to add your own. The list of tones and their corresponding code numbers — which you can type in directly from the numeric keypad — is to be found on a loose A2 sheet folded down to A5 size. There is a similar sheet covering the rhythm list and other odds and ends. A really useful category button jumps you through the tone/rhythm groups — stopping at the first item in each group. You can then use the scroll wheel to scroll through the group.

To be honest I think there are too many tones and many of them are so similar that I can’t really hear much, if any, difference. I see it as a gimmicky selling point rather than as something hugely useful.

However a fun thing you can do with this keyboard is to set everything up the way you like it and then register it. You can register 128 different setups. Then three button presses load up the saved setup.

The keyboard can be split into two sections — upper and lower. The split point is adjustable. Different tones can be assigned to each section. So the right hand can play one instrument while the left hand plays another. In addition to that you can assign two different tones to either, or both, upper and lower sections, so you can have up to four instrument voices at the same time.

I’m pretty much a musical novice, but I’ve got a training course that runs on my iPad and connects, via this keyboard’s USB port. This works well and is the same port used for a MIDI connection to a computer with suitable software running.

The pictures for this product make a big deal of the fancy red surrounded speakers. They sound great, but are covered with a grill so the fancy red is considerably subdued. In deference to my neighbours I only practise wearing good quality headphones, and I’m very happy with the sound I hear through them.

I don’t think this is an instrument for beginners, it just does too much and I think that might be a little off-putting. I think my Yamaha is a better instrument for starting from scratch. But if you are a serious beginner and only want to buy one instrument then this would certainly allow you to grow. That said, this is an absolutely brilliant keyboard, and I can happily ignore all the fancy stuff, use the chord accompaniment, have fun with the different voices and rhythms, and just get on with learning to play.

If you want to take advantage of the Rockschool download, you need the keyboard’s serial number. It is in the most awkward location. However, I found the same number on the side of the box on a barcoded sticker just underneath a stamp that says C5 8712.

In conclusion I think this is an excellent, if very complicated, musical instrument. It sounds good. The keys have a quality feel, and it has plenty of connections to hook up to other bits of kit.

Excellent sound, good quality keys with a lovely feel - great instrument.

It’s hard to review this product, as I feel that I’ve barely begun to get to grips with it. If you want a simple keyboard, this probably isn’t for you, but if you want a creative powerhouse that enables you to create multitrack pieces of music, or sample existing songs from a computer, this provides an awful lot for a relatively cheap outlay.

With hundreds of voices and rhythms, plus the ability to create your own, the only thing holding you back is your technical and creative prowess. Teenagers will probably master this keyboard in hours. Older users may need some help, but there are lots of YouTube videos and even evening college courses that explain how to create music. Whether you want background music to a film (and with the EU copyright law on the books, there’s more need than ever for original music), make a song or play around with an existing one, this keyboard is like a mini-studio, giving users the opportunity to produced polished-professional-sounding tracks. It’s not a full-size keyboard, but it is versatile enough for most purposes.

Whether you’re serious about creating tracks, or just like a bit of fun messing around with different sounds, this keyboard has a wealth of potential.
