Hornby R3171 Locomotive
About Hornby
Frank Hornby put the invention into production under the name âMechanics Made Easyâ. This led to the establishment of Meccano Ltd in 1907. Frank Hornby had to regularly move his factory to new and larger premises. Hornby introduce toy trains in 1920. Hornby Trains were powered by a clockwork motor, made of metal pressings held together by Meccano nuts and bolts, and â0â gauge in size. The company was quick to introduce more engines and accessories. In 1925 the first Hornby electric train was produced, operating from a mains supply of 100-250 volts. By 1929, Hornby had evolved a much safer system and electric models worked from a six volt DC source.

I bought this because of the price, less than 100, what were they thinking? having said that it is well made and the detailing is superb with added bonus of being able to upgraded to DCC at a later date should you wish to. I can’t comment on how it runs because believe it or not I don’t have a layout to run it on, that’s for retirement.
Unfortunately i had to return this loco so cant submit a proper review but it was a good price and well finished for the money
What a beautiful P2 classic! Am very surprised what a price is good but I can see it bit small different than expensive P2 classic as really SAME MADE like a pro, powerful and beautiful quality build that’s nothing wrong I believe so I don’t know why people complain about it! I’m recommend to anyone buy it! Absolutely love it! Thank you Amazon!
For the price this is an absolute bargain! Runs beautifully and is is a great looking locomotive,
A definite buy for all hornby fans
Runs like a dream and easily pulls a rake of eight coaches up a steady incline. Genuine value for money model.
I liked level of detail for price is good. Runs smoothly. Good price compared to other locos. Looks good in my LNER loco collectio
I found it to be an amazing runner and it came for a marvelous deal! it’s great when they come DC (analogue) so you can choose if you want to install a DCC, but it’s pretty big but honestly it’s worth the price!
This is the cheaper “Railroad” model. It’s less detailed than the expensive one with simpler printing (lining, cab numbers etc) but runs beautifully. If only it were available in the Hornby Live Steam range.
This was a Christmas present for my husband. He loved it.
I bought this loco as part of a set I only paid 77 for the whole set and at that it is great value, however, the loco is rather slow and needs a lot more throttle on the controller than my other railroad locos, I just hope that it will loosen up after more running in. Thanks Amazon.
