Considering its size the sound quality is excellent from this speaker, and the ability to charge other devices from it is very handy too. Also, make sure to download the accompanying app as you can adjust the EQ settings from there.
This speaker has great sound quality and enough oomph to fill a room with music. Small enough to include in your luggage for taking on holiday and enough battery power to keep going all day long.
I’d highly recommend. The sound for the price is incredible! The sound overall is amazing for such a compact speaker.
Not too heavy but it still feels sturdy. easily connects to phone & pairs with other speaker for surround sound
The sound quality is exceptional – much more than I anticipated. It does everything and more than described. T
he best purchase I’ve made in a very long time. I highly recommend this little, sleek powerhouse.
Love the little alert sounds in power on / off. Camo is the best colour! The sound is great – much better than the little Sony speaker I’d used previously. So easy to pair up. Charge LED really clever how it scales up to indicate level of charge.
2022-to present day. Still going strong can’t fault it. nice size to carry on holiday and use it a lot for festivals. Very good quality speaker and can handle dnb music. Holds a long charge and also love the power bank for those emergency charging. Would definitely buy agai
Save money on more expensive speakers because this is all you need for portability. Bought it for my daughter who spends her weekends with horses (weird I know) and the full charge lasts her for playing music all weekend when she’s cleaning out etc, and even has enough power so she can charge her phone up if need be. Sound quality is excellent although I think it has a little too much bass, but that is more likely to be her EQ settings and what she listens to, as the treble is really good and tight. Doesn’t distort at high volumes
Read a few reviews about the sound quality, and some reported a poor experience. I really don’t know why there are any negative reviews about this speaker. It’s absolutely superb.
Place it on the floor and the bass travels!
It’s not surprising this portable bluetooth speaker has already got top reviews in its price range. It has great sound reproduction with good bass which is important for rock fans. I have used it for around 8 hours and I haven’t had to charge it so far. It’s small enough to be very portable and has its own carry bag. It was very easy to pair with my android phone. What’s not to like? If you can afford it buy it!
So easy to set up, and paired immediately with my Samsung phone and tablet. It also charges effortlessly with a Samsung unit, and you can adjust the volume using a locked handset if you wish. Mutes automatically if you need to take or make a call.
The JBL app is OK, but to be honest, the EQ is very good as it comes. I tried dropping the mid-range by one click and adding a click of bass and treble (using the Steely Dan test method), but surprisingly discovered that the standard setting was in fact superior. Any issues accessing the graphic EQ using the app, reinstall with both units paired in front of you.
Having been so thoroughly impressed by this speaker, I intend to purchase a second unit, as the two will link, using the infinity symbols, and then discharge true stereo sound.
Worth the extra cost and very highly recommended!
The JBL Charge 5 is about the same size and weight as 2 bake bean cans end to end — really not huge considering its impressive volume, solid bass and apparently long battery life. Sound quality wise I have few complaints with it having a rich warm sound and good separation of bass, middle and treble. It is a mono speaker, which I think makes no difference in the context of a speaker designed to fill a room with music but do appreciate this will be an important consideration for some. It handled everything from modern jazz to music such as P!nk’s Never Gonna Not Dance Again. At high-volume it did struggle with Sam Ryder’s Space Man – hence my rather mean hearted 4-star review.
I bought this speaker back in February and a few months later bought another (elsewhere) to make a pair of speakers – they work so well together although pairing them can be a bit fiddly (essentially you don’t pair your device to one of the speakers and the one you are paired to communicates with the second speaker). Getting two of the speakers was very worthwhile.
Bass is deep, and sound quality superb. The speakers are a bit bigger than some but still portable. Have ordered a protective case. When operated as a pair the stereo sound is really good. Together they are better than the sum of their parts.
I am impressed by the power and sound quality of this speaker. Bluetooth connection is stable. Easy to handle, I love the dust and water proof as I am a potter…. Highly recommend it.
Battery life is excellent, deep powerful bass, and clear sound. Had a beats pill before this, but JBL is x 10 better. Will buy another some day to use ‘party boost’ function (they can be paired).
Early days, BUT!
For a speaker unit the size of a 750ml supermarket bottle of spring water, this speaker is the dog’s.
Thrown some rock, blues, jazz, classical and 80s synth at it and handles them all. The app helps tweak sounds especially mid and high end the bass is awesome for such a small unit. Load enough for anyone, even those who annoy the neighbou5
Every speaker that I owned before lacked base, I’ve been searching for a speaker with good base and buying this did not disappoint, it’s exactly what I was looking for, the base is nice and crisp, the sound quality is amazing and it’s fairly portable, I have no issues with i
Excellent piece of kit tbh, kicks decent amount of bass but not to much so you can’t hear the music, good amount of battery but don’t have it to loud as it will drain in 3hrs.
I recently purchased a JBL C5 speaker and I’ve used it for music listening at home. The sound quality is top-notch – this is my second JBL speaker (the previous was C3). Very easy to connect and great to listen.
I waited for a good few months before writing this review to give it time to fully check this little beauty out.
So for me it’s about sound first, connectivity and then battery and size.
The sound is amazing for the size, full bass and well balanced mid and treble. I use it for Amazon HD and Spotify Premium and its absolutely great
I have a reasonable sized garden and it’s more than loud enough (even my neighbour commented on the sound quality )
The battery lasts for ages. I haven’t timed it, but I rarely charge it and use it daily. Now I listen to my music at a fairly low level, so if you are partying and have it loud, it may last less time. But you’ll definitely be happy with how long it lasts. Charging time is reasonable as well which is a bonus.
Bluetooth connection to my Samsung Note 10 and Fire tablet is quick and has honestly never dropped. I’ve actually gone into my house while the speaker is in the garden and still hear it playing flawlessly.
It is definitely more than worth the money, and I have stopped using my other Bluetooth speakers as its just so useful and great sounding.
I did pair it with a friend’s Charge 5 for stereo and it was awesome. So now I have to decide if I can justify another to get the stereo going in my garden lol
Hands down a brilliant buy
Checked every review I could find before deciding on the Charge 5. Extremely happy with the quality and capabilities of the product. The sound is very good for something the size of a wine bottle!
Would recommend to anyone – and the proposed next version includes Wi-Fi which is the only improvement you could make to this speake
God the charge 5 and boy am I glad I didn’t settle for the flip 6. This device is a beast, sound quality is great, volume is astonishing and battery is unbelievable, only problem is the price went up so I can’t get a second speaker now. Will purchase another eventually so I can pair them as a L/R stereo setup
This speaker has a very pleasing sound quality. It’s a balanced full sound with plenty of attack, the bass is very good for a speaker it’s size but obviously doesn’t extend that far down. It is very loud, you could easily fill a good size living room at high sound levels and you could use it in a small hall for, say a dance class with enough volume to get the job done. It will fit in your backpack, not in your pocket and the battery lasts for many hours! Bluetooth connection seems pretty solid.
It charges using a USB C connector and a USB C-A cable is included, which is handy if you’ve got chargers lying around for your phone/tablet/laptop. It doesn’t come with a separate charger. There is a charge indicator so you can see how it’s getting along.
There is an app that you can download – JBL Portable. I’ve tried the Android version only. The Charge 5 speaker is astounding and does not need this app to function. The app gives you a 3 point equaliser (bass/mid/treble) and a vague battery indication. It also has the PartyBoost feature which you can use to group 2 or more JBL speakers. The app works well, can be used to update your speaker’s firmware, and seems stable. However, unless you want to use one of these features it’s superfluous.
Overall an impressive speaker especially for it’s size and price. I am enjoying listening to it.
I’ve read some reviews that criticise the sound quality and some that sing high praise. I heard this in Currys and was impressed but it was a little expensive at full price. A little while later one came up on Amazon with 30% off so I went for it.
What I have noticed is that the sound is very much dependant on the source. Well recorded tracks sound superb, crisp, with clarity and weight, far better than a speaker of this size and cost should be. However, when playing a poorly recorded track the speaker portrays itself as dull and lifeless.
This is quite common for certain brands. I expect that a company like JBL expect their customers to be using decent recordings so allow the the speaker to breath rather than restricting it to help disguise low hit rates, think Bose.
Fortunately, the recordings don’t have to be that high quality, as even YouTube videos with their limited bit rate over Bluetooth can sound really good, it’s just the really poor ones that don’t.
The JBL charge 5 really does set the standard for travel friendly speakers under 1kg. I was lucky enough to get the “ND” version, and I’ve been really happy with the sound I’m already getting out of it. I imagine it will only get better with extended break in. Build quality is second to none. I was able to buy mine on a flash sale, and I highly recommend you wait for a good price on this, because while I think its a good speaker there’s NO WAY its worth its RRP.
I have a pair of Soundcore motion booms, and I also had a motion+ that I recently got rid of- for the charge 5 actually- so I do feel like I’m in a good position to review and compare this to others. Also have owned others in the past, charge 3 and UE megaboom for example.
Compared to the motion boom, its (almost) slaughter. The sound you can get out of that speaker for the money is actually astonishing, with a custom EQ you can get it to sound so dynamic and with real true deep bass down to 45hz. However, I will say the charge 5 holds its own to about 50-60% volume, it’s a really nice listen at these volumes because it does have nice bass with excellent clarity. I do prefer the charge 5 for lower listening levels of the two, especially if your sitting in close to the speaker in a small room. At higher levels the motion boom destroys the charge 5, but that is to be expected, its a way bigger speaker! The boom is also a stereo set up compared to the mono setup of the charge, so at higher levels you do miss a bit of the sound stage and instrument separation on certain tracks. At anything over 80% especially, the charge 5 limits bass so the gap widens even further. The charge 5 is also a lot lighter than the motion boom, 970 grams vs 1570 grams!
Compared to the motion+, which is something of a cult hit speaker and does offer amazing clarity and stereo separation with the right EQ, the charge and the motion+ trade blows in my opinion. On the one hand, when it comes to deep bass the charge 5 absolutely dominates the upper bass heavy motion+ (until you get to 100% volume, the motion+ does get a lot louder and have more overall bass, however both speakers frankly sound really bad and screechy at 100%, so I don’t recommend that lol). On the other hand, you get really immersive stereo separation, and a higher quality Bluetooth codec on the motion+. For my personal tastes, I prefer the sound of the charge 5, I just need the bass the JBL can deliver for the music I listen too. The charge 5 is also surprisingly lighter than the motion+, 970 grams vs 1060 grams.
There are some tracks that you notice the mono sound on the JBL more than others, however overall I still think this is a great speaker for all genres. The thing that really holds this speaker back is its ridiculous retail price. At the price I paid (109), I’d say its a solid 4.5 speaker, and best in class travel friendly speaker. At higher prices, it really does get harder to recommend- especially when you consider the value friendly options available from the likes of Soundcore and Tribit. There’s also the possibility of a new charge 6 being just around the corner…
Hope this review/comparison helped!
I am writing this review after using this product for three weeks. Here are a few things you should consider while buying a Bluetooth speaker and where the JBL speaker stands in these parameters.
1. Sound – The sound quality of this speaker is extraordinary compared to its size. The sound is crystal clear at the highest volume, and the speaker performs well in delivering mids and highs. JBL signature Bass is the USP of this company, and this product is not an exception. However, it would be foolish (and unreasonable) to expect a home theatre experience from this product. It has a 30W speaker compared to more than 60W speakers of a typical home theatre system.
2. Battery – It delivers what JBL claims in its advertisement. The battery easily lasts for 20 hours when the speaker is used at 50% volume (loud enough to shake a small-sized room). Even at higher volumes of 80-90%, the speaker lasted more than 14 hours during my test use.
3. Build Quality – The speaker weighs around 1 kg and has a solid build quality. It feels sturdy and premium and has got a very good quality finish.
4. Power Bank – This speaker can be used as a power bank to charge your device in need. A handy option if you are in dire need of fuel for your phone (obviously when you are travelling).
5. Other features – Add-ons like water resistance and dust resistance seem to work based on my current usage with this product.
Cons – The only downside of this product is not being able to produce stereo sound when multiple JBL speakers are connected. It delivers mono sound (which is fine as the company doesn’t advertise this product as stereo sound speakers. The difference between a stereo and a mono sound is that stereo audio is capable of producing the perception of sounds coming from different directions, whereas mono audio can not produce this effect.
Overall Review – This is a great product for those who like to party on the go. It’s highly portable, has got great battery life, build quality and brilliant sound with JBL signature Bass. I am certain nobody is going to regret buying this product.
So there’s loads of small speakers that tbh are just not kicking out enough bass. They’re all mid range and treble. And 5 watts it’s not a big enough sound. This is 40 watts max. I like serious sounds.
Tbh for a speaker this size you can’t go wrong. It’s got a brilliant sound for its size. The woofers kick to the beat or resonate to low frequencies just brilliantly. Will it fill an average bedroom, kitchen. Hell yes!! But remember the audio you send needs to be lossless audio or Flac files. Low quality mp3 will always sound rubbish. It handles all types of music nicely. Set up is easy as is the Bluetooth set up. The JBL App works well to fine tune bass mid and treble. You won’t regret it and tbh don’t bother with anything smaller. And just for fun you can link two of these for bigger sounds and for bigger rooms. Out side it still sounds great. But it’ll annoy those around u as it’s loud! There loads of protective case covers and shoulder straps out there too. Enjoy!!
I have had a Sony bluetooth speaker for years and wanted a change. The sound did not disappoint with very good base. Use around the house but have not had a chance to use it out or in wet weather. I have not found any bad points.
Fantastic sound with this speaker , thankfully it is loud enough to cover up my partners singing in the showe
The bass and sound is amazing.. Battery life is long lasting. Used for days out in the park with family and friends and it never disappoints to enhance joy and happiness with great sounding music. Have recommended to friends and they have bought this speaker too.
Little bit heavier than the kardon Harmon I had however excellent sound quality added bonus of recharging phone great buy
Great speaker, loud 🙂 long lasting battery and great little backup battery to charge your phone 🙂
Good sound quality, suitable for our and about in a park, or on a boat. Kids love it.
hosting house parties, not your rave speaker but certainly good enough for a family bbq.
I also have the partybox which is amazing, proper bass rattler!
THis unit doesnt have the same base but certainly has the same volume output
Highly recommend, if you want more ooomph, get the more expensive ones 🙂 you will not be disapointed. worth the money
A very good sound with heavy bass. I had the flip 4 before but this is a big Upgrade to the sound + charging feature. Happy Customer.
This has a great sound! Was really surprised at the quality. Thought about buy a portable speaker for ages and so glad I chose this 1.
Up graded as my flip 4 battery wasn’t to good. Love the battery life on this one. 16 hours with no charge so far.
Best part is the sound!! A good buy!!
Haven’t tested the water resistance ye
This little speaker has amazing sound and is very durable. Great value, would 100% recommend.
Was a bit sceptical about this but no need.
Sounds ok, good bass and loud enough if in the house, shed or garage.
I like the bass and clear sound quality; great product. Very happy with it.
I haven’t owned it long enough to comment on battery life or water resistance
Sounds good, can be thrown about
Sounds great and battery lasts ages. Durable too. Nice touch having the USB charging capabilities.
You could throw it at a wall and nothing would change. Sturdy and practical
No problems setting up and it gives excellent sound quality.
I had a different Bluetooth speaker but nothing as good as this one. The sound is good, the speaker is easily transportable. Really love it.
I was unsure to buy this speaker over the JBL flip as there didn’t seem to be a lot of differences apart from the battery life, the deeper bass and of course the cost. The battery life is what made me buy the JBL charge 5 and I couldn’t be happier with what I got. The speaker sounds amazing a lot louder than I thought it would be, it’s heavier than the flip however you do get a much longer battery life and deeper bass which makes the music sound that little bit better. If your budget can afford the JBL charge 5 I say go for it as you won’t regret it.
I like it that much I have told my parents to get one.
Used for a large garden party (2 purchased and linked together) more than loud enough and fantastic quality!
Very good portable speaker. Good sound quality and goes really loud. A bit heavy but feels nice and sturdy. Easy to use and connect to Bluetooth
Very good speaker for the money, compares well with UE Megaboom which I also own.
If you are buying just one then the sound is pretty average. If you buy a second one to listen in stereo then the difference is jaw dropping. I bought the second one and set it up in stereo party mode and the sound stage was instantly opened up and what a difference. If you just buy the one its mono and pretty average so just be warned.
Good little Bluetooth speaker, good quality and clear sound with deep bass, if it had stereo audio it would be 5 stars, but apparently if linked to another one they will perform in stereo, but I can’t be certain, without another one to try it.
Ordered this to use in the milking parlour , absolutely brilliant sound ( you can hear it over the noise of the milking pumps ) . Waterproof and cow proof
Surprising sound especially the bass from such a small device.
This is exactly what I was searching for. Heavy bass and crispy sound. I love i
I like to listen to music a lot and have had numerous devices over the years. This one however, sounds amazing, no distortion as you increase the volume and it charges your phone. Definitely worth the price.
Perfect to blast some good music by the pool with friends and family around. Sound is great, can go really high in volume (can definitely stay below 50% in outdoor noisy environment) and battery life is grea
Very pleased with this product, I use it all the time!
Good sound quality _ battery life and bluetooth Conection make this a must have
If you are looking for a good value, portable Bluetooth speaker that delivers a stunning sound experience, then look no further than this JBL model.
My wife and I stayed at an AirBnB a year or so ago and that was the first time we encountered a JBL product, albeit an older version. It delivered a fantastic sound, and it impressed us both.
We have a really good, but fairly old Sonos system at home, and it became a real faff running a power cable for a Sonos Play5 into our garden whenever we wanted music outside. That is when we thought about the convenience of a battery powered Bluetooth speaker, and hence why we looked for options
Remembering how good the JBL speaker in our AirBnb was, I read the reviews and decided to go for a slightly better model, the JBL Charge 5. Oh boy, we have not been disappointed.
I am writing this review in our garden, listening to music, appreciating the bass and power of the JBL 5. It is truly excellent and for what we wanted, even better than we had hoped for.
10/10 for this product. In the areas that matter (sound quality, portability, ease of use, did I mention sound quality!?) it cannot be faulted.
I bought this JBL and a B**e Sound link revolve II portable bluetooth speaker. The latter was almost twice the price. For the size and cost the JBL wins without a shadow of a doubt! I don’t normally write reviews but on this occasion I have to say the JBL Charge 5 is a great choice!
I am so impressed! I didn’t know what to expect from what is really a very small speaker unit, but the sound is excellent, irrespective of size. I was looking for something to use indoors mostly, and it exceeds my expectation. Outdoors perhaps would warrant the Xtreme 3 if you need the extra oomph, but for mainly indoor use I can’t rate this highly enough. And no, I don’t work for JBL.
The sound from this speaker is excellent for the size and type of speaker, battery life is great and the ability to charge your phone or other device from it is fantastic. No need to worry about rain or getting it splashed it’s ideal for outdoors, camping, bbqs etc. haven’t linked two yet but I’m going to get another for that reason and use them outside for sound all over the garden when having bbqs
I am a speaker fanatic, I have a whole collection of different Bluetooth speaker with the whole sony srs-xb range with me. Therefore I have a lot of potential speaker candidates to test this one with. I will sort my opinions with pros and cons.
Pros:
Sound: The sound is great for a speaker this size. When compared to the similar sized Srs-Xb33 it absolutely without a doubt blows it out of the water in terms of sound quality and volume. The volume of the sony on 100% is the volume of the JBL on just 60% not even comparable. When compared to the bose soundlink flex which is half the size of the JBL it does sound better with the low and highs being more full sounding, however the bose is still a great sounding speaker at half the size.
Battery Life: Battery life is excellent, you can use it for hours without it needing to be plugged in to charge. Tested it at 100% battery on 50% volume (Real world volume level) and it lasted about 15 hours, which is mind blowing.
Build quality : Has a better build than the sony srs xb33 or ue boom in my opinion, however not as good as a bose soundlink flex, beoplay a1 or soundlink revolve which all use some metal for its exterior. I really like the big JBL front metal logo which looks great compared to the charge 4 predecessor. Looks like its built to withstand more than day to day life.
Dynamics: This speaker has a forward firing woofer and a forward firing tweeter as well as dual passive radiators on the left and right size (The best arrangement for a speaker this size in my opinion), crystal clear vocals and highs from the tweeter and decent mids and bass from the woofer. There is a lack of sub bass however I dont expect speakers of this size to produce sound that you can feel in your chest.
Cons:
Exposed Usb C port: Although this is IP67 rated, I wouldn’t trust the speaker to be submerged in salt water unlike the srs xb33. Exposing the usb c port without a water resistant flap can introduce corrosion to the port unless the water is distilled (highly unlikely to be ever submerged in distilled water). Keep this in mind when using it in water or near bodies of water.
Exposed passive radiators: Trust me I’m a big fan of the way passive radiators look and looking at the excursion is just beautiful. However in terms of durability, the rubber membrane can easily be poked with a sharp object rendering the speakers sound quality to be drastically reduced, effectively making it useless.
Stereo sound: I honestly think stereo sound for speakers of this size is unnecessary as you will never feel the effects of larger separated speakers such as bookshelf speakers. However if you want stereo sound, this speaker does not have this.
That concludes my review, I hope this helps to make that purchase decision.
I was really surprised when I switched on that speaker. The sound quality really impressive. Battery life first time 18 hours.
Highly recommended speaker. Though this will be heavier but it’s really OK. Setting up was really easy too. It’s a good idea to download the app and get updates.
I’m so impressed with this speaker which really packs a punch for its size and I rarely write reviews but I have to give credit where it’s due.. I’m very fuzzy when it comes to sound quality and did my research before buying. It’s perfect for my needs. The bass is deep and mids and highs are crisp.
A couple of tips for you to improve the sound quality.
If you stream your music from Spotify or other streaming services, make sure your streaming at the highest quality. You can find these settings within Spotify. Just google “how to set high quality sound In Spotify” This will make a difference on play back and you can also adjust the equaliser In Spotify.
Also update the firmware by downloading the app and the firmware update has its own equaliser built in so you can adjust from the app. It does make a difference, not a massively but it’s worth it.
Lastly placing the speaker in the right place will make a difference to the sound. For example try to have hard surfaces behind the speaker so the sounds bounces off. For example place on a table in the corner of a room. The corner walls will amplify the sound and it will sound louder.
Finally, for kicks, Try placing the speaker into a empty bath tub in the middle and you will see the difference in sound 🙂
I was confused in buying a portable bluetooth speaker and then I found this. It is truly amazing and I love the sound quality, the bass of it. Everything is so lit!!
I love this and it connected instantly to my phone via Bluetooth. Listening to spotify was great and the quality is excellent . Its a little smaller in length than a wine bottle and great chunky little speaker. I only have one so i do not know if the party boost mode works well, but one speaker in the garden is all i need!
Excellent sound quality good battery life. Well recommended.
Heard the bose 1 and this is better
Had a few issues with bluetooth initially …downloaded the app on my phone and updated firmware which has sorted all problems
Looks very nice and sleek, doesn’t rock around when placed on its feet. Small enough to pick up with one hand or carry in almost any bag also not too heavy, however it is by no means a little speaker in the realm of portable Bluetooth speakers. The fabric and rubber combo is incredibly durable and will not scuff or tear if used outside/dropped.
Volume wise it can get quite loud, I mostly use it inside and never have it past 60-70% and I do like my music fairly loud. Outside you can bump it up to 100% if you want and will easily create an atmosphere for anyone within 10-15 meters however of course can be heard rather far off.
The best sound quality is going to be at around 40-60% with a crisp deep bass and clear mids+highs but even past that it still sounds incredibly good especially for its size. I’d recommend bumping up the bass a couple notches on the built in eq on the app along with placing the speaker in the corner of a room where the bass radiators have a surface to bounce off of its crazy how you can feel the bass coming from such a small speaker (and I’m used to having a dedicated sub with my home sound system). I listen to a variety of music from dnb to indie pop, grime, country etc. and it does a good job for all.
The app and software is good, only a 3 bar eq however it does the job, pairing is seamless and you can pair with up to 2 devices playing at one time. It also has partyboost where you can link together up to 100 JBL speakers with the same feature. I’ve used this with two boost 5s and an xtreme 3 and it fairs well hosting a party.
Sure you can find slightly better sounding/louder speakers for a similar or even cheaper price but I truly believe this would be the best option considering the entire package.
(Not given 5 stars bc I save that for a product that has really wowed me and almost never do)
I had a listen to the speaker before which made me decide to buy it but when I got mine and was able to listen to the music I usually do it blew me away, for the price this is definitely the best portable speaker you could buy, there are others but the sound quality is noticeably worse so I 100% recommend this one.
Bought this with high expectations after reading a lot of reviews and I was not disappointed . Deep bass , strong mid range and capable or reproducing astonishing roomy and spacious high ends. Battery life is amazing , design is simple and effective and it is reassuringly weighty . Just buy one and ignore the glory hunting mega brands.
Ive been wanting a smallish portable speaker for years but didn’t want the tin pan sound from other speakers that I’ve heard. I was going to opt for a bigger portable (de Walt) just because I thought that no portable this small was capable of sounds this GOOD!
The speaker is amazing. The bass is thumpy, the mids and trebs are never distorted and can be equalised via the jbl app. This little thing goes REALLY loud, holds the quality at these loud levels too. Never owned a JBL before, never even heard of them but Ive made a spot on choice and will be upgrading to only jbl for portable sounds in future. Love it.
I’ve charged it once out of the box (I think it was half way charged on arrival) and I’ve not had to charge it since. Its been a week and I’ve used this about 5 – 6 times. The battery level indicator is on the app.
good overall value maybe a little pricey at full price
Decent for the money… Sound quality is not great, but for the price it’s what you would expect.
Decent Bass / Rubbish treble.
The most important quality in a speaker is the sound and the JBL Charge 5 excels. For me, it sounds great out of the box with just the right amount of bass, but this can be adjusted by installing the JBL phone app, which includes a basic equalizer.
In my opinion, it sounds better than a Bose I’ve had for a few years, which has very heavy bass and no means of adjustment.
Look out for price reductions on this one as it seems to fluctuate quite a lot and colour choice can also make quite a difference to price.
I’m very happy with this speaker and would rate it as the best portable I’ve had. I’d definitely recommend it.
On the downside is the reported battery life (see other users) – less than 20 hours expected although I have not let it run flat yet. On the upside is the BIG SOUND and EASY CONNECTIVITY. I have several similar devices that differ in several ways – this is the Best Buy I can remember for the money. Contrary to many other devices that can be temperamental in connecting to the sound source such as phone, this takes a second or two and does not need a nudge from the user to connect – it’s automatic which is great.
Only used in the bathroom until now to play radio or playlists, found the sound excellent if quite bass heavy as reported by other users. However, this negative becomes a plus when you take it outside and pump the volume up. Working outside for a long day, it could be clearly heard over the sound of power tools and found myself stopping to admire the sound quality several times. It’s ridiculous for such a small package really and does not sound bass heavy outdoors. Buying another one for stereo effect.
Device plugged into power socket and connected via Bluetooth for the same period with my ipad ( plugged into power as well). For more than 3 times, the speaker couldn’t be powered off …
So I brought this speaker because it has a large battery and it is able to work as a power bank so you can charge your devices on it. The only problem is if you are not playing music the speaker will turn off automatically after 10 minutes or so. Leaving everything uncharged.
For example, when I was on a plane for a few hrs I wanted to charge my phone without playing music. Only to find out it turned itself off after 10 minutes. I hope JBL can sort this out with a software update. It’s incredibly annoying.
Wow the Quality of the product in hand and the sound quality is just amazing!! It has deep bass nothing like I’ve ever had before in a speaker ,YouTube videos does not do it justice at all it’s hands down the best Bluetooth speaker I’ve ever owned the packaging feels top quality like you can keep the box forever the presentation in the the way it’s presented is just so cool it’s just an experience of unboxing it and seeing how good the speakers are, I thought for the price I was a bit wary if it’s any good as soon as I heard the music playing i exactly know why it was worth the money I would recommend this to anyone that loves there music and the bass songs. I usually play the Bluetooth speaker on full blast but i put it on 50% and it’s already loud enough as it is the battery life on it last for very long time just worthy every Penney as soon as you experience the sounds it makes you will know why it’s so good 10/10 would recommend
I have had numerous JBL speakers and various from the charge range, I actually collect and compare a lot of top brands and all I can say if you are looking for a Bluetooth speaker and can afford it this JBL Charge 5 is the one.
I am absolutely thrilled with this speaker I usually buy things and feel bad about it after a month or so but so far have been more than pleased with my purchase if you are getting a every day speaker I think that this one is a steal because the sound quallity and battery life is absolutely amazing would recommend this for people who do DJing as a hobby because you can connect easily to a computer with Bluetooth and if any of your friends have the same type of speaker you can connect them together to fill a bigger space
There is a technical fault in this specific product. I ordered this bigger speaker ‘Charge 5’ because I needed longer battery life but its no better than the JBL Flip4 I had as that one lasted a few years. This one – after playing the speaker for a few hours, after a few days it makes a bad scratching sound. I requested a replacement Charge 5 and customer services are excellent. The quality of this speaker is exactly the same as the previous one. I will keep it a bit longer and see how often this bad scratching sound happens before trying another one. It lasted far less than the Flip 4 which I am sad about as its a bigger speaker with bigger output and I don’t play it too loud at all.
After reading a lot of reviews and watching endless video reviews everything lead to the JBL charge 5.
Swift delivery and so easy to set up I am as impressed as the reviewers I watched, compare it to the extreme at double the money and two of these paired together would be far better than the extreme! Perfect little Bluetooth speaker for anyone anywhere doing anything. If your looking to buy one then just click the buy now and amazon was the cheapest anywhere in the colour I wanted so thumbs up all round
I have a Bowers and Wilkins Zeppelin and was a bit wary of buying this however, I’m most certainly impressed by the sound of it a what it is intended for which is our future holiday.
No your not going to receive a concert type of mega sound but you will receive clear music from this unit, so well worth the money.
I previously owned an older JBL portable speaker and I was impressed with the amazing clear and bassy sound quality, but this one takes it to another level. The bass is soo deep and what ever genre of music you play will sound incredible. Absolutely fantastic build quality and long battery life . You have to own one of these speakers if you are looking for awesome sound. Makes you fall in love with your music all over again!
Son bought this and totally loves it (he has quite a collection of speakers and adores music). I thought the sound was excellent and it is lightweight to carry about and looks good too!
The sound quality is what really seals the deal on this speaker it is fantastic. Great highs, quality mids and pumping bass that isn’t overdone. For a portable speaker of this size it’s probably the best I’ve heard. I previously bought a Sony XB33 which was a disappointment and this speaker beats it in every way except for the light show! I previously had a Dockin D for years until it died and the JBL is a big step up and it’s much more compact. Connectivity is flawless so far too. Haven’t gone to town testing the battery life yet so I can’t really comment. I’d definitely recommend. Just buy one
I bought this after returning one of Sony’s equivalents. This is so much better than the Sony I had. The battery lasts for at least 10hours (depending on how loud you go) and it recharges in just over an hour. Great sound and beautiful bass for the size of the speaker.
spent weeks checking out all bluetooth speakers to use for my TV in the kitchen, had to buy a bluetooth transmitter thou, once i did, wish i had bought this earlier, checked sound out in curry’s and the JBL was so much crisper and clearer than the UE megaboom 3, cant fault this speake
Ungraded from Charge 2 after battery failure after 10+ years. – The sound quality and volume are so much better. – I was quite happy with my old one, but this really brings the music to life!! – Thinking of buying a second one!
