As you’d expect, I needed a way to tie a bunch of network hookups together in a spot where only a single outlet existed. I’ve never used a network switch before, so I was a little worried that the setup would be fiddly. To my pleasant surprise, this NICGIGA switch just works right out of the box with no real setup required – it’s just plug-and-play, essentially.

So far it’s quiet, it doesn’t get very warm, and it doesn’t take up much desk space. So it’s working great for me so far.

There are three toggle switches on the box that enable VLAN, AI Watchdog, and an AI extender, but I’ve honestly not needed those so far. So if, like me, you don’t need these features, then this switch might be a little overkill. But generally speaking, I’m very happy.

    Funktional ein guter Switch.
    – GBit Uplink
    – GBit Downlink + PoE zu den Gerten
    – Unifi Access Points, IP Kameras, funktioniert alles direkt
    – Lfterlos und ohne nennenswerte Wrmeentwicklung
    – 2 SFP Ports

I want to use this online to connect one camera that has remote control, so I can isolate it, from the rest of my system, to protect it from everyone I never gave permission to; to see what my other cameras are seeing…. I hope it allows me to do it. I’ll update this review later (month or two) to let you know if, and how.

I got this switch to extend my home wired network in order to reduce the number of devices on the wireless network.

First is comes securely packaged. It comes with a heavy duty but short power cable. If you use the included power cable you will need to be very close to your power source for it.

It has a number of dip switches to enable Extend 300m, VLAN isolation, and Watchdog features. I’ve not turned those on as I don’t have a need for them at this time, so I’m not sure how well they do or don’t work. What I can say is it powered up fast. I plugged it in and it connected to my router without problems. I was able to connect a device to one of the ports and it connected almost immediately. It has been operating smoothly without problems since setting it up a few days ago. I will update this as I use more of the ports on the switch and see how it handles a greater load.

I’m extremely pleased with it at this point.

Was mich allerdings irritiert: der 6.

This is one of the few quiet PoE switches out there. Its helpful because others have a hum, sometimes a loud one, that means you can only do well if these are installed in a basement. Its not an option for most. This one succeeds because it can be installed in many other places and not make noise. Essential and versatile I like this one.

Danke fr Ihr Interesse an meiner Bewertung.

    Was mir gut gefllt:

Was mir nicht so gut gefllt:

I bought this to power a eap615 tp link access point. It did power it and provide internet but would reset the access point about every 5 mins. I tried different ethernet cables, different ports, etc and had no luck. I then bought a tp link TL-PoE160S and with the same setup the access point worked perfect. After running into these issues and entering a low review I was contacted by thr manufacturer of this switch. They advised me to turn off their ai watchdog functionality. I did and it works with fine now. I am a little frustrated that this had to be done but appreciated the support!

This is a good poe switch just be cautious of turning on any of the features that come with it. I would look at this brand again after having excellent customer service.

I’m a home-based consumer of unmanaged POE switches. My systems run behind a single firewall that I manage. I use the switches to power POE cameras for home security and for tracking and managing model trains on a decent sized layout. The firewall prevents the cameras from reaching the Internet and I don’t care if the cameras ever talk to each other, though they never do. So I don’t need network management but I do need good power distributed to a good sized collection of operating cameras. This POE switch meets those needs.

My test for this switch is pretty simple. I uplinked it to my camera network and attached three POE cams. They’re all visible in my camera monitoring software (BI). Everything looks good. I’ve turned on the VLAN switch, so now the three cams can’t talk to each other even if they were to try.

I don’t foresee needing the fiber uplink and I haven’t tested it. If this switch’s fiber were faster than its cable uplink I’d be tempted to test it because I do have multiple computers on my network working collaboratively. But so far one gig has been fine.

Bottom line: the switch has been working fine with three POE cams. It’s well built and has solid connectors. I see no reason not to recommend it at least for uses similar to mine.

    What you should know:

    – It’s an unmanaged (“dumb”) switch, so no interface on which to comment.

    – 4 1Gbps PoE ports, plus 3 1Gbps uplink ports…more than adequate connections for a small office or home. Sure, 10g uplink and 1g endpoints might be better for some office environments at this point, but this switch is suited for surveillance cams, IP phones, home-use, etc., for which this switch is plenty capable, especially with 1gbps endpoint connections.

    – Also, there is some really nice flexibility with ports 5-7, with the #7 combo-port essentially serving as a “redundant uplink” to “5 or 6”. And then the non-uplink “5 or 6” has an “extra/other port” for monitoring, AP, downstream-switch, or an another PoE device (with an injector)with at least one copper/fiber SFP module required for “6” in these use cases. Plus, you can use fiber SFPs for far/remote uplink. Despite the lack of mounting options (out of the box) noted below, this feature/versatility gets the product the “fifth star”.

    – The device is a fan-less, so it’s quiet for an office or home environment.

    – Then extend mode is nice for devices on “extra-long” runs.

    – VLAN forwarding/isolation/support is also nice feature. (Of course, you still need a VLAN capable router to configure/manage the VLAN segmentationthis is still just a “dumb” switch).

    – The chassis (thankfully) has screw holes for rack mountable supports, but the mounts/supports are not included. Also, there are neither rubber feet nor slide-mount holes on the bottom. So you’ll have to purchase rubber feet or mounting hardware, depending on your use/installation. Both are rather cheap, but I’m frowning on the inconvenience of not including these things. This

    Bottom Line:
Good PoE dumb switch with added features, especially in uplink connectivity

    Good Unmanaged GB PoE Switch

This is the second Nicgiga switch I’ve used the first was a 24 port Gigabit plus 2 port uplink switch for an office that had a switch issues that was locking up. That switch was installed in Dec 2021 and I purchased that switch because most of the other manufacturers had 2 and 3 months backorder due to supply constraint problems. I got this switch because the previous Nicgiga switch has been rock solid without any problems if there was I would definitely get calls right away.

I needed a PoE switch to connect a wireless access point and down the road connect additional PoE devices such as IP phone or IP camera, but right now only the access point is connected to the switch. The PoE AP only uses 9 to 12 watts of power rated from the manufacturer, so it’s way below the the 65 watt rating for PoE devices on the switch. It was simple to connect, just plugged in a CAT6 cable into the uplink port and connected to one of the interfaces on the firewall. I keep the wireless AP and future IP phones off the internal network for security. I can’t speak to longevity of the switch as I’ve only just connected it and it has been running for a few days, but so far so good.

I didn’t try the long range 10 Mbit option as I don’t have a need to connect an IP camera at that bandwidth < 10 Mbit/s over 100 meters away from the switch. I don't think most high resolution IP cameras would work well at that low of bandwidth at nighttime. Security cameras especially the 2K and 4K cameras are variable bandwidth devices and at night the lower light levels leads to much higher noise levels in the stream. A 4K camera at night can easily generate 7 to 15 Mbit/s video stream under low light levels when the video has artifacts and ghosting from headlights and fast moving subjects. A 10 Mbit/s connection I would expect to have buffering and lag issues.

So far so good – I like it and I’m happy to have it. As far as expert review – I am never going to be able to write a deep and profound technical review because I don’t have the knowledge/experience.

But I’ve been doing networking stuff for many years, and know my way around home based and even rack based networking equipment. My experience goes right up to the line, but does not include, managed switches and routers. Unmanaged? Loads of experience.

I got this because I wanted the VLAN capability. I have a great POE switch already with AI watchdog and that is built to withstand exposure outdoors, but it doesn’t have VLAN support. It’s POE ports are also only up to 100M except the uplink but that’s good enough for all devices and the AP outside is a 2.4G only anyway (for best outdoor long distance).

So my configuration is on the dip switches is 1-off, 2-on, 3 off.

So, now, if I’ve set it up right, the outside AP clients can see the POE cameras, and the cameras can be seen from the inside main network, but none of the things outside (cameras or AP clients) can see into my home network. I could also run a direct run to my AP from this and have it separated so that it can’t see the cameras. I may do that, but the idea is that the AP can be a guest network for dinners and stuff outside and it might be fun if they can see themselves on the cameras. I don’t know, I could go either way on it, but I’m definitely influenced by the idea of not having to run another line out there. And also, I’m not sure I can turn on PoE just to work with one devices and have the other port for a normal network downlink – putting PoE onto the uplink of the outdoor PoE switch could be a bad idea. I’ll definitely contact the seller before attempting that.

The unit itself seems solid and well built. I didn’t disassemble it, but I imagine it’s all standard networking hardware inside and the only real question is the power supply and whether it’s up to the task of running 24/7 for years. I would have preferred an external transformer, but I have other networking hardware that plugs directly into the mains voltage like this. The problem is that it all seems to fail eventually at the power supply level and though it’s probably just capacitors that have gone bad I’ve not had luck in repairing them easily.

That said, I imagine putting it on a UPS or at least a conditioned power strip would give it the best chance for longevity.

I still have to test out my configuration and make sure everything is actually as secure as I think it is, but it seems to be. Fingers crossed, and I’ll come back and update this if things go bad, but right now I am very positive about this unit.

I can’t really recommend it (or not) for it’s PoE usage because I’m not using it that way (yet) but otherwise, I have no problem giving this a confident thumbs up. Especially since it’s Gigabit on the PoE ports instead of 10/100 – and that is nice for cases where you have a whole extra network not PoE like I do, or if you have high resolution cameras or such that have high bandwidth needs.

Plus, another reviewer had a great experience with support from the company and that’s a huge relief and makes me feel very good about this switch.

I picked up this switch because I had been thinking about reconfiguring my network by adding a VPN-enabled router (in addition to the main network), running a new line to another floor, and reconnecting a line I’d disconnected due to a lack of space. This required three extra lines, so I wanted to get a 4-port switch.
This switch came packaged well and included the switch itself and a power cord. The switch is solidly built with a metal case. Assembly/installation was a breeze: connect the power cord, plug into power, connect the switch to a port on my router, and connect the other lines to the switch. It was quick and easy and everything worked immediately.
To test for any network impacts from the switch, I ran a speed test (using the program from Microsoft) three times before moving to the switch and three times after. From my home desktop, the average ping went from 5.67ms to 6.67ms, download 393.34 to 391.44 (nominal 400Mbps), and upload 19.92 to 20.02 (nominal 20Mpbs). There is enough variation from test to test that while I think the latency may be affected ever so slightly, the up/down speed differences are likely not statistically significant.
Note that I did not have any PoE devices that I use at home to test with that aspect of the switch.
This switch was quick and easy to set up and it’s solidly built. I’m fully satisfied with this addition to my home network.

Solidly-built switch works well for expanding my network

In fairness, I’ve not ran any speed tests on this to see if it’s the cream of the crop, etc..
I was just so fed up with the weak signal on Virgin Media’s Superhub3, that I decided wired was the way to go…
Installed this in the bedroom & plugged the TV & a few other bits into this. No faffing, just plugged them in & that was it…
Now my connection in the room is far more stable, the TV is 4K & runs without issue, buffering is all but gone.
That’s pretty much all my boxes ticked!!
Yes, it’s a nuisance to set up a wired connection, running cables across your home, but in the long run…. Its just more stable.
Metal case rather than plastic, that you see on a lot of these, now.
It’s not pretty, so you’ll likely want to put it just out of sight, but it does what it’s supposed to & that’s what matters.

This has been up and running a while now and I’ve found it very stable, even for PoE. It’s currently running just one PoE and a few normal cat-6 cables, the PoE is going to a wireless PoE access point and it’s rock solid, just one reboot in a few months needed, so the PoE seems to work well at least for low demand items (though I think it probably still uses about 20 watts!)
quite happy with it, it’s very cheap for what it does if you compare prices.

This is a silent network switch which I am using to include my PC, my work laptop and some associated network devices on a hard wired network to my broadband router, with zero set-up. Using a switch this way means that several devices are using a single router connection effectively, as they will not need to stream content at the same time.

My intent is to add an IP camera eventually, so the PoE option struck as a good option for forward planning.

The switch can be mounted on a wall or as part of a server rack. The metal case is a bit bulkier than some domestic models. The mains kettle lead goes into the back, while the networking ports are well separated from it at the front of the device, mitigating some interference. They have fairly standard LED indicators for which ports are live an communicating data.

Unlike some more domestic Switches and bridges, this does not have any WiFi capability.

In “default” mode, all the devices network ports are on the same LAN, extended mode ensures that the devices can’t see each other’s content on the network. This provides some insulation from some potential security exploits in the Internet of Things where some notoriously insecure devices can be used to gain access to others on the same local network.

But since there’s more cables than ports this product worked out great

The Product met, and exceeds my expectations! I have owned three other switches over the years, and all of them had various levels of static in them. However; the NICGIGA Switch is as quiet as a mouse! That’s what I like about it the most! Also, it has handsome looks, instant response time, performs as expected and guess what, the price is right! The active green lights underneath each PoE port illuminates the allusion of a much bigger switch than the Unit actually is-and that’s good! My grade for this electronics engineering marvel is an “A”

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI got this Gigabit Ethernet switch to replace a similar one that was damaged by a nearby lightning strike. This unit supports power over Ethernet (PoE), which allows certain devices to get their power through the network cable, thus eliminating the requirement for a separate power outlet for those devices. Security cameras are a common example. I am not using the PoE feature, however; I am just using this a regular network switch, so this review will focus on that usage.

The first thing I liked about this switch over my old one is the fact that the power supply is built in, so no power “brick” to deal with. Just plug the cord from the outlet straight into this switch. It is also, for my purposes and I suspect for most people, truly plug and play. Just plug in your network cables and, voila, you have a network. It has a Gigabit (1000 Mbps) uplink port and four 10/100/1000 network ports. I can confirm that the uplink port functions at 1000 Mbps (or at least far above 100 Mbps); however, the cabling and devices connected to the other ports in my setup are all 100 Mbps, so I have no way to verify whether these four ports are truly Gigabit.

This switch has a nice feature that I don’t use, but for certain scenarios might be indispensable, and is not something commonly found in these switches. The manufacturer calls it a “VLAN” feature, which is not entirely technically accurate, but I digress. There is a small sliding switch on the front of the unit which says “Extend Default.” When in the “default” position, the switch functions as a normal network switch, connecting all devices plugged in to it. However, sliding it to the “extend” position isolates the four regular ports from each other and only allows them to connect to the Uplink port. In some situations, this could be a real security boon. At this setting, connected devices could get to the Internet but not each other. In any sort of a public setting, this could be a huge security benefit. Devices connected to those four ports could not hack, or even see, each other. In my home network, and I suspect in most, this is not only unnecessary, but probably not what you would want. In my setup, one of the ports is connected to a computer whose storage is used for network backups. If the switch was set to “extend,” no other computer in the house could see the backup computer.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersBeen looking for a Gigabit PoE switch for some time now. I wanted to clean up and eliminate as many possible power cords as possible. It did just that for me.
My Cisco 2702I came up under full power. (See Screenshot). The 2702 AP is an 802.3at Access Point but is backwards comatible with 802.3af compatible power sources. This switch provides 802.3at and is backwards compatible with 802.3af equipment. Obviously it will use 802.3at by default.
I also bought a PoE splitter for my router which brings the voltage down to 12V and it provides enough power for that aswell. That also was a bonus as I can power cycle everything by using the switch.

802.3af and 802.3at are the same thing. 802.3af is just older and operates around 15watts max where as 802.3at can do 30watts. They share the same polarity. Difference is the amount of available power.
Another important thing to note is these switches will only output power when a compatible device is connected to it. So plugging a laptop or other non PoE device into a PoE port will not do anything. This is standard with most PoE switches.

    Nothing Fancy. It simply works

My needs are fairly simple, i need a gigabit switch to power a Mikrotik 4G router dish primarily, with a few more ports to connect to a couple of laptops and my video switcher, these need not be POE powered but as POE is only supplied when the device requires it that is fine, and i don’t really want an external power supply so this box is ideal for me. I do live streaming in a lot of churches so i need to kep the amount of kit i carry to the minimum, previously i was carrying a poe power supply and a network switch, both use their own external power supply, now i have one box and a standard iec mains cable to do the job of both boxes. perfect.
I am a little confused by the little instruction pamphlet about what the extend function actually does but never mind i probably wont ever need it anyway. Neither will i ever need all 30watts per port so the fact that is only has 78 watts available overall is not an issue, well not at the moment anyway.
The box comes with some brackets to help it be rack mounted but i would need two boxes in order to do that, i am happy leaving it loose anyway.

The device is a solid metal construction, feels robust and comes with rack mount points for a small rack.

After setting it up, it starts up quickly and my cameras all connected and powered up without any problems although I haven’t been able to test the maximum power output but it has run 4 cameras easily.

It is a very strong and powerful device
You have the Extend switch to change from lower range around 100 meters up to 250 meters depending

But the manual did not say if that is just for the uplink port or all the POE ports?
But above all it functions to.my satisfaction.

    Excellent performance.

This is a five port switch: four ports plus an additional input port, making for five ports in total.
This switch is a good looking bit of equipment too, for a device that could be considered boring at best.

I tested this switch and found that it worked perfectly – I was able to connect additional ethernet devices to my network without any loss of speed. As expected, it was a case of plugging the ethernet cable in from my access point into the input of the switch and plugging the other two ethernet cables into the output ports of the switch, with the corresponding ethernet cable jacks plugged into my two devices. My devices were then ready to go – setup in no time at all.

It should be noted that this a relatively large unit in comparison to other network switches, though this is bound to the unit having its own internal power supply. Rather than being powered by a wall wart plug, it is powered by a ‘kettle connector’. So what you save at the wall, is made up for in the size of the unit.

The network switch is supplied without any network cables, but it is supplied with a UK plug.
The unit is metal cased and also has an additional earth screw on the rear, so it can be connected to a rack if wished. The switch also comes with a fixing kit so that it can be wall mounted.

Surprisingly, this switch has a maximum power consumption of 78 W. I did not have any issues with the unit feeling warm – it remained cool.

The switch also has two modes: default and extend. I suspect the extend option is to boost the power of the network signal if it is being transmitted over long distances. The manual is limited and is more a list of specifications. For most intents and purposes, for most, this should not be an issue as switches are pretty much plug and play.

I cannot fault this switch and I can therefore recommend it.

I have to say that i really like this PoE switch, even better than my better branded switch without PoE. here you are getting fully functional 5 port Gigabit switch for plugging devices such a security camera or simply split LAN signal for more PC’s or other devices. Ii is simply plug & play, no fancy software or apps to manage it. Simply plug RJ45 from router to port no. 5 and then other devices to ports 1-4. Power supply is fully included inside off the metal casing so to power it up you are getting just thin power cord which makes it more tidy cable wise. No messy power supply hanging round. In my case i plugged CCTV camera just by ethernet port and switch without problem power it up and send signal. Just make sure camera supports PoE first since not all of them does.

Very capable device. On front there is also Extend switch to change from lower range around 100 meters up to 250 meters depending on how long you need it. I like this switch because it is hassle free usage. No problem, just plug and play, fully compatible with all different devices. No fan inside which means completely silent device, noiseless. Very pleased with this switch.

Great basic PoE switch, easy to use, plug & play

This PoE small switch is particularly useful in scenarios where the existing network equipment is not changed.
As long as there is a power supply and Uplink, PoE power supply equipment can be added near the switch, which is very convenient, unmanaged switch, and no configuration is required, just plug in.
The size is small and can be tucked in the corner, perfect for PoE power supply transformation.
The quality is very good, the conversion speed is fast, the network speed is stable, convenient and easy to use, and excellent value for money.

First off it works out of the box as a Poe or normal switch. It’s got a couple of differences than a normal switch which explains the higher price than say a Netgear gig switch which is cheaper, it is an unmanaged switch so you cannot connect to it and alter the programming which seems to consist of 4 seperate vlan id’s that are routed through to the main vlan id 0 through the uplink port.
There is precious littleninformat8on about this switch online or with it which is a little concerning but as I said it does just work.
The power is a kettle lead and the transformer or power block is inbuilt into the chassis hence the larger size, but it’s still very big considering. I’ve found this a lot when companies use one size chassis for different number of ports switches.
They have made some strange decisions like the 30w per port power claim which is strange with a 78w switch unless they mean that’s the max drain for the switch itself and not the ports which is highly unlikely and the decision to isolate the ports into seperate vlan IDs is odd as I was taught by Cisco to have one vlan id for each type or area etc and not per device so this switch should not be put onto a larger managed network it should just be used at home or small network.
It can be rack mounted but oddly you need to attach two side by side then into the rack instead of having longer mount brackets, strange because if this is extended as per the claim on the 350m extender range (???) Then this would be a loan switch to supply say cameras and then it would be a lone switch that couldn’t be racked.
Anyway I’ll get off my horse and say it does work at home with IP cameras but I’d say it’s overkill for that and I don’t really know where this sits in the hierarchy of a network scheme when it could effect your other vlans as there is no information about them.
It’s 5 stars because it just works plug and play and you don’t need to touch it but it’s a network enigma.

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersThis network switch by Nicgiga offers 5x Gigabit Ethernet Ports with full PoE (power over ethernet) support enabling you to power devices like VoIP Deskphones, IP Camera’s, Access Nodes and other office equipment without the need for external power supplies. Each port is PoE enabled (bar the uplink data port), and features an unmanaged plug-in & play design so there is no need for any additional configuration to get power or data to your peripherals, just plug your ethernet cable in and go. Remember that you will loose one ethernet port to provide the switch a connection to your router which has to be plugged into the up-link port, so remember to account for that when deciding how many ports you need.

The switch has its PoE power supply built into the enclosure for a smaller footprint. It powered off a regular 3-pin plug and provides a maximum of 78 watts total giving you plenty of power to connect most peripherals. The switch supports PoE IEEE 802.3af/at up to 30 watts – the device you connect will only draw the power it needs but this is the maximum this unit can supply per port. If every device you want to plug in will use 30 watts, this will exceed the maximum supported load so this is something to check before using as well. You of course get the standard ethernet indicator lights that flash when connected to indicate data and power. There is also a small earth screw on the back that you can use to attach an earth wire to a grounded source to ground the switch.

This particular model has an extend mode, but there is not much documentation on what this does and how it works. The product comes with a basic manual that does not include much information and only some basic specifications, and Nicgiga’s website appears to still be in development. From experience, extend modes on switches like this basically reduces speed from full gigabit but extends the range to 250 metres which could be useful when powering far away devices over long ethernet cables (for greater transmission distance you’ll want to use high quality CAT 6-7 cables that have better shielding and isolation). It also says it runs the ports to support VLAN, which can increase security and separate bandwidth but can make accessing connected devices more difficult. On a small unmanaged switch like this VLAN seems unnecessary.

I plugged in a Yealink T42s VoIP Phone into the switch and it powered on and connected with no issues at all. Running some bandwidth and speed tests with my Laptop connected via Ethernet, I saw no drops or difference in performance than I would if I was connected to my router directly. The switch can be wall or desk mounted, it can be mounted in a cabinet on a server rack but you’d need an adaptor. In the box you get two small mounting plates and 4x screws included to help mount the switch if required.

Even though it has an internal power supply, it’s passively cooled through the aluminium frame, it feels solid and hefty, certainly well put together with its industrial design. The design is completely fan-less and doesn’t make any noise when in use. The ethernet connectors are tightly secured and don’t wobble in the casing and they feel like they could easily survive multiple hot-swaps and unplugs.

Overall, if you need an easy to use unmanaged PoE Switch this is a good solution, but it loses a mark for lack of information on the extend mode VLAN specifications.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThis is a sturdy and compact POE switch which works well with the 802.3af/at devices I tried it with.

However there are some questions I’d like answered but can’t find the information in the small pamphlet manual or on the manufacturer’s website.

Firstly it states up to 30W per port which in my mind equates to 4 ports x 30W = 120W total but the switch only comes with a 78W built in PSU.. so would it cope? I unfortunately don’t have that m,any devices to test it with.

The we get to the range extending switch on the front. The manuals says this can extend the Ethernet range to 250m from the normal 100m. However nowhere does it say if that is just for the uplink port or all the POE ports?

I checked the NICGAGA website and it looks like they still building the site with lots of place holder text and “Put content here” messages which doesn’t inspire confidence.

Overall not a bad price for a POE hub but needs to answer a few questions.

A nice high quality, compact poe switch. Perfect for soho networks to work from home and power handsets etc.

Also a great little switch for poe cameras but be mindful that one of the 5 ports is an uplink port to connect to the Internet so you get 4 active ports for devices. So you’d get 4 cameras or 4 phones or 4 access points etc.

A good quality bit of kit that’s very welcome in my new home office. No more poe adapters hanging out of the wall!

This is built like tank and is working perfectly. I’m using it to run some PoE IP cameras from various manufacturers and everything been working like a charm since I installed it a few weeks ago.

I like that it doesn’t need an external power brick. No doubt that makes the main unit slightly larger but I think that’s worth it to keep everything tidy and contained in a single unit.

1Gbps and PoE in a well made, reliable device. I honestly can’t fault it – superb.

You receive a good quality 5 port PoE switch, which build wise is a s good as I’ve used, and the price is excellent.

This is designed for powering PoE devices and not as a box for increasing your network outputs, as its has line power I don’t think you’d be wise to use it for that.

This works very well, I’m only powering tow PoE cameras and they’re working perfectly, I’ve no plans to add more but I know I can if I need more.

A great item, well made, good price and a good looking item

My house uses a mix of Unifi and TPLINK networking gear which typically does everything I need and more for quite a high cost, when I saw this for 35.99 I was quite excited that it could offer POE+ support at gigabit speeds, plus it has a built in power supply, most of these switches also come with external power supplies.

The device is a solid metal construction, feels robust and comes with rack mount points for a small rack. After plugging it in it starts up quickly and my cameras all connected and powered up flawlessly. I haven’t been able to test the max power output but it has run 4 cameras easily with no drop outs.

One interesting feature is the vlan switch that segregates each port to a different channel and then combines them into the rest of the network so they cannot speak to each other. I do this with the rest of my Unifi gear, however you can’t pass these Vlans through as it isn’t a smart switch so I can’t think of a good use for this unless it’s for specific IOT devices.

Overall this offers impressive value for money for a solid switch.

For the price it’s great for POE cameras.

This network switch is great as I have many devices at home and now its all linked in together.

Now my phone is connected to my CCTV and network at home and its like a hub.

Pretty fast and it auto detects PDs

Its easy to use, stable and pretty powerful.

    Great product and works well.

This is a well made switch. I like that it is plug and play. I am not technical but I used this with my Dj setup where I plug the pioneer decks in and it communicates with the record box software. Both decks got an Ip straight away and the computer found them. There was no configuration needed either. The switch has a metal housing with a built in PSU , there is no cheap plastics or large power bricks involved. The LEDs on the front show a connection and any data communication. It is fast being a Gigabit and supports PoE. Great value for money and up there in terms of build quality and performance.

So, primarily you’d be buying this to power PoE devices, but you could also use it just as a network switch (but you can buy one of those for aorund 10 which is cheaper if you just want that!).

The PoE switch has 4 ports plus an uplink. The case is metal which is great for heat dissipation, and the power supply is integrated, powered off a “kettle” plug. The integrated PSU makes the device a bit chunkier than the smallest equivalents however there’s no external power brick which I actually find more convienent that way.

So what did I try in it?
Port 1: PoE power to HikVision ColorVu IP camera
Port 2: PoE power to Amcrest PoE IP Camera
Port 3: Windows 10 PC (I run as my secondary server)
Port 4: PoE power (and 1Gbit connection) to Ubquiti AC Lite Wifi device
Uplink port: plugged into another PoE switch (which had other devices plus attached to rest of network)

Everything ran just fine, the PC could transfer files to my other PC at full speed indicating the 1Gbit transfer speeds were achieved.
No buzzing or similar noises, no excessive heat, no smoke, just everything works.

Until then, I can say for around 34 at time of review, this is an absolute bargain and do not hesitate to recommend after a couple of days usage 24/7.

I’ll run this permanently now and report back should anything change reliability wise…

For a five-port switch (which is what I’m reviewing), this is a surprisingly chunky router. It’s tall, quite heavy, and the panel is wide enough that ten ports would have fit across it without needing to widen it. You can see through the side grille that this allows for a bunch of space inside, which will help prevent overheating, but nevertheless it’s a heavy-duty bit of kit for its port count.

It’s also a tiny bit ugly. The variety of different fonts and sizes, the “logo” and the layout of the light info shows very little thought.

The bottom line though, of course, is that it works exactly as expected. The PoE ports do their job, everything plugs in and just works with the minimum of fuss and no management, and you’re away.

So while I’ve criticised it for being bulky and ugly, I’m still going to give it five stars, because a product like this needs to just work, and it does that.

NICGIGA 5 Port Gigabit PoE Switch with 4 PoE Ports @78W build-in power supply, Sturdy Metal Fanless Housing for Desktop/Wall Mount/RackMount, Plug and Play, VLAN Mode, Unmanaged(GS0410P)

35.99 at the time of review.

THIS IS NOT a standard network switch so please do not buy this if you are simply wanting to add more network ports to your system as it may well blow any non-PoE devices attached to it!

It comes packaged in a simple cardboard box with a powerline and two brackets and screws. The switch is held centred in the box between two foam cut-outs. There is a small user manual which is almost useless apart from some technical info. The brackets can be mounted on the sides to secure it to a wall etc., and it has two slots in the base to mount it from there as well. The case is a good grade metal which will last better than the plastic ones.

This switch is quoted as being an 802.3af/at device which means it can supply power to a PoE device of up to 30W, such as a PoE camera, VoiP phone, wireless access points, networked audio and so on. If you have a device that needs more power, you would need to add a PoE Injector as well. You can also use a PoE Injector to power a PoE camera, for instance, from a non-PoE hub or switch.

You could also use this device to network to a non-PoE device, but you would need to insert a PoE Splitter in between so the data could pass through to this switch.

This device also has a switch on it which is supposed to allow it to exceed the 100 metre maximum length of cable up to 240 metres, which would normally be the job of a PoE Extender or Repeater.

This would be a great addition to your existing network if you wanted to add up to 4 security cameras, for instance, as you could attach this switch to your existing switch via the uplink socket, position it somewhere central to your cameras, then run CAT leads (5e and upwards) from each of the four ports out to your cameras. You would only need to power this switch and wouldn’t need to run power leads to your cameras which makes them easier to install.

DO NOT however, buy this to use as a standard, non-PoE hub/switch to extend your network ports as it may well blow any non-PoE devices attached to it!

This is the base model from this company and given its features and build quality, it is simple to give 5 stars to this PoE switch.

Simple plug and play, but a solid, very well made, metal-cased Ethernet 5 port switch, that works well and is excellent for home and SOHO networking options. Very simple – plug into the router and you have 5 patch ports to attach other devices. Clear instructions included.

Very higher quality item, I’ve had similar priced ones in the past which have been very cheap and nastily build, however this was nothing like! Very high quality and greatly packaged. 5 ports, so plenty to go around all your needs and having the built in power supply, just makes it that more easier and less hassle when setting everything up! I suspect the price will go up soon, so grab a bargain while you can!
