I’m using an old ’80s race bike to ride rail trails. Can’t fit a tire larger than a 700-28. This stem takes the edge off the vibration, enough that I’m no longer bike shopping. Totally worth the cost.

I love the extra dampening this provides, even on the firmest setting, for the rough country roads I often ride near my house. I do not notice any issue when sprinting or out of the saddle going up hill.

I have around 100 gravel-bike miles on the “Pro” version of this stem with the Ti hardware and different finish. The stem works at least as well as any other stem in terms of the function of mounting bars on a bike at a fixed distance ahead of the head tube. It looks great and is problem-free, no noises or sounds whatsoever from the pivot. There is no negative impact on control with this amount of travel. That speaks very well for a stem design where you have a mode of movement that other stems do not have. The worst I can say about it is there is a small weight penalty of about 100 grams versus a comparably priced non-suspension stem. I might hesitate to recommend this mainly because it is the price of a very high-end rigid stem, and the suspension aspect of the design is subtle to the point that I would need to put my rigid stem back on to see how much difference I can even detect now. The travel is rated at about 2 cm (20 mm). It is more like a bumper effect, especially given that there is no damper and so with each “hit” the stem compresses slightly and returns almost instantly (due to lack of damping) to the original position. It sounds obvious to say, but the experience will never approach that plush feel of a dampened suspension fork even over very small bumps. I tried a softer elastomer combination, and there was no real benefit. You might think a softer elastomer is more plush, but in practice you will be using up some of that 2 cm of travel in pre-compression. It is better to follow the normal (firm) manufacturer recommendation so that when you do hit a significant bump you have that “full” travel available.

For anyone who suffers with pain in the hands this is a must. Takes the harshness out of the bad road surfaces and allows you to relax more on the bike.

Looks like a regular stem, but takes the buzz off rough terrain. The pro is nice and light.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersWorks as expected, bob while climbing out of saddle, noticible on first climb, then brain/body adjusts, and while bobbing still occurring, it is almost not noticible…

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI am very happy with this stem so far. It’s perfect at absorbing small impacts like hitting a manhole cover or riding over large gravel. The only issue I had installing it was it comes default set up with the elastomers oriented for a positive rise stem, but for gravel use most people are going to set it up as a negative rise stem so you have to disassemble and reorient the internals. It’s not hard to do but you have to know to do it or else it doesn’t have any downward travel.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersHave cervical herniated disks. Couldn’t ride longer than 20 minutes without numb hands. Put this on my road bike and now I can ride all day without numbness or pain. Have a Specialized Roubaix with the “future shock” on my other road bike. This works just as well.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersWas toying with the idea for a while after doing Ickneild Way… 125 miles nearly all off road and rutty.
This stem would have been amazing for me on this ride but unfortunately I knew I had done a ride from about 110 miles in.
Since then I have bought this stem in the pro version and I did 95 miles on Pedars Way from from start to finish, The coast to Thetford and back.
This stem was bloody fantastic. It took all the in perfections out of the small ruts and helped with dampening all the harsh ground.
Obviously your hands will still move and vibrate but no where near as much as on a regular stem.

    Total game changer!!

Due to the increasing deterioration of roads in my area, I was returning from rides with numb hands, sore wrists and sore shoulder & neck muscles despite my carbon road bike with rear ISOspeed and 28cm tires and gel padded bar tape. My son told me about this stem. I ordered from Amazon & it was delivered a week to the day from my order. Installation was a snap, just had to change one of the elastomers for my weight range.

I went for a ride yesterday, and wow, what a difference. You still feel the bumps from the heaved, cracked & broken pavement, but now it’s just a muted thud rather than a jarring bang. No sore hand, wrists or neck today so worth the $$ to me. Even with the price + shipping, it’s still a cheaper solution than a carbon stem & bar. Can’t say I felt any noticeable up & down motion, it’s that subtle. If you push downwards on the bars, you’ll see the movement, but while you’re riding, you don’t usually have all your weight on the bars. As other reviewers have mentioned elsewhere, this doesn’t replace a suspension fork which you’re not going to have on your road or gravel bike anyway.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersDas Geld fr den Vorbau lohnt sich ohne Zweifel.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersEasy to adjust with little elastomer pieces, just don’t take the adjuster pieces all the way out. Looks good and easy to install. I can definitely feel the difference between the Redshift and a normal stem in some comfort.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI bought a new gravel bike and have been riding across bridlepaths and tracks. The ground is dry and hard at the moment and incredibly bumpy after being chewed up by horses – to the point of being painful on the wrists and shoulders and giving me some blisters on the heels of my hands. Especially rough compared to my MTB which has front suspension.

I read mixed reviews on the ShockStop suspension stem, but decided to give it a go. I bought the PRO version which is lighter than the other version. It definitely works to take out a lot of the high frequency bumps and judders, although not as good as full suspension forks. I was worried that it might feel floppy under braking or normal use, however it seems to be fairly stable and hard to spot any movement.

Definitely worthwhile and a good investment!
