I put this up and the holes were full of bees within hours. The whole thing is now full. I have several designs and this is the best. The little solitary bees are very happy. One thing I need to say though, although the brush is very useful, the little burrows shouldn’t be cleaned out before the winter as some baby bees don’t emerge until the spring.
This looks cute in my garden and the bees started moving in as soon as I put it outside. So lovely to see!
Fantastic. Now completely filled with solitary bee eggs for next year and all canes sealed. In just a few days!
Delivered quickly and as described. It seems quite sturdy but I cannot comment on how weatherproof it is as it is too early. However, the metal roof will protect the wood underneath it. The bees found it very quickly and it is almost full now so they obviously like it as well. We now have 3 bee houses (one which is twice the size of this one) and they are all virtually full.
I put the Bee House near some existing ones I have on a south facing wall. It was ignored by the bees for the first few days, but now it’s been completely filled and the canes sealed with mud. I just make sure that there aren’t any spider webs covering the front so the bees don’t get caught in them. The bees are non-aggressive and don’t have a stinger capable of piercing our skin anyway apparently. They are very pretty ginger bees!!
A nice little solitary bee hotel although I did have to drill out several of the bamboo tubes to ensure full or better accommodation for the very busy bees.
It’s already being used having only been up for a couple of days so clearly the bees are impressed!
Not sure I’ll use the brush though as the bees remain in the tubes for 11 months before munching their way out, I’ll leave them to do the housework I think?
Nice and good looking bee house, although unfortunately no extra care was taken at the point of assembly as some of the pipes remain blocked. The brush supplied will help to remove any debris that has got stuck inside. I recommend it, but the manufacturer needs to improve the quality and stop cutting corners. Quality not quantity!
I must admit that we were rather tardy in setting this wild bee house up and quite frankly it has had no insect tenants as yet. I can, however comment that there are a few rough bits sticking up which I needed to file down – this is especially important if you’re setting this up with children. Some of the tubes were also blocked.
The price was OK but I think that I’d prefer to make my own. I will update this review accordingly if I receive any stripy guests.
Having had many bee houses without a metal roof which always split im looking forward to putting these up next year and them being more waterproof and sturdier. Also handy to have the brush to clean them out before new bees take over!
Looks good on the tree. Havnt asked the bugs and bees if they like it yet but im sure they do. Lol
This is a great little bee hotel. The metal roof will add weatherproof qualities. Bought one for myself and one as a present. Simple to fix to fence post. Waiting for the residents to arrive.
Very cute and well made with a beautiful colour helping it blend i
This bee/insect house is lovely. It looks great I’m the garden and is well made. Within days we could see insects and bees using it and it encourages a lot of nature into our garden. My children love watching all the little creatures on it. Good value for money.
Really nicely constructed / presented.
Wooden, With a protective metal pointed roof.
Metal hook on the back for attachment purposes. We’ll be mounting this to a fence panel soon.
Comes with a bristle brush for cleaning out the pipes in the winter / after your visitors have departed.
Love this Bee hotel…we had one a couple of years ago which sadly fell to pieces, So this one was a total no-brainer and I ordered it immediately..I was very pleasantly surprised that it has a smart metal (Looks like zinc) roof..well made too
It is now hanging on our fence and already a couple of bees have found it!
Educate your kids with this we need bees to survive!
This is a very pretty addition to the garden and I think it looks great and has been really well made. It looks to be well made and finished to a high standard. I am judging by its build quality it will withstand years and years of weathering whilst offering minibeasts a place to stay. I’m glad I’ve got this in my garden and glad I got this.
This Garden Locker Bee Hotel is painted in a smart pale sage green shade which would complement most gardens perfectly. It has a galvanised roof – good for protecting the structure from rain – and there are 60 bamboo tubes to attract solitary bees, ladybirds and lacewings among other insects.
A hanging bracket pivots out from the back of the roof to facilitate hanging. Really this 1.5kg bee hotel could be hung simply on a hook or even a single nail. It looks good as well as being helpful to insects. Whether it’s actually needed in my more rural garden is debatable as we have a large number of insects, bees, moths and butterflies through the summer and plenty of places for them to hide and go to ground in.
That said, I guess every additional home helps. Also included in the attractive gift box is a mini sized cleaning brush that’s just the right size for cleaning out the bamboo tubes at the end of the season. Well made and decent quality, in my view this is well priced at 13.49 at time of writing and is cheaper than some versions I’ve seen in garden centres.
This cute, shabby chic-style bee home for solitary bees/other insects seemed like a nice addition to our garden. It’s quite different in style from our existing bee house — a rope-suspended bee barrel, so I’m interested to see if the success levels when it comes to attracting occupants are different. I like the idea that the metal roof might help to delay the wood rotting, and this is bent round rather than joined pieces.
This is designed to be attached via screw/nail to a hard feature rather than used as a hanging item and has a flip-up metal mounting plate, but doesn’t include any fixings.
This is a garden item, and the finish of the wooden sides isn’t completely smooth. Some panels are well sanded on the house I received, but the two side panels are quite rough.
The light green paint used for the wooden outer of the bee house is quite shabby chic in effect. When new the metal roof is shiny, but presumably this will age/oxidise and recolour.
I like the design of the holes for occupants. Most of these are varying widths of bamboo pole section, but there’s also a 5cm wide round cross-section piece of wood (the end of which has been painted to match the outside of the bee house) into which 5 smaller holes have been drilled.
This came boxed, in an attractively-printed box and without any plastic packaging beyond a single piece of tape sealing the box. Would make quite a nice present for a keen gardener/ someone who has newly acquired a garden.
I got this for my Mum in her garden and she is so happy with it. It comes packaged in a nice box, so would make a lovely gift, and it is really nice quality. The bee/bug hotel is well made and has good weight to it, not flimsy and lightweight like some others you can get. The roof is metal to help protect the wood, but it’s also a pretty feature to have as it’s reflective and lovely when it catches the light. There is a hanging bracket already attached to the hotel, all you need is a hook/nail etc to hang it onto, which is super simple to do. (See my picture) A small cleaning brush is also included. It looks great in my Mum’s garden, for the price it is great quality and I would recommend.
