Love this for smoking bourbon and old fashioned cocktails. Also makes a great gift with all the wood chip options. We’ve been experimenting and don’t use too much wood chip, light it well, get a good torch lighter, and slide the smoker off the glass, don’t lift. Enjoy!!!!
Ps, storage is easy and don’t smell like campfire smoke in your house!

Comes with a few different kinds of wood chips. And plenty of each. This thing is a real game changer when making an old fashioned!! Price is right also.

I’ve had smoked cocktails in swish bars so was interested to try making some at home. I made a batch of old fashioneds for guests. The smoker was really easy to set up and I liked the small replaceable mesh. I used a brulee torch as nothing is supplied. The wooden “funnel” looks good but gets really scorched the first time it’s used, to the extent that I wondered how much of the smoke was the woodchips and how much was the funnel.

A good quantity of smoke was made for each drink, which dispersed quickly – I made the drinks near the guests so they could see, but if you were carrying them some distance you’d need a lidded glass. The addition to the flavour was not overpowering but was clearly present. It was a wood smoke taste with no obvious varietal fragrance, just bonfire! The number of cocktails for which this will be useful seems limited to me – some whisk(e)y drinks, maybe mezcal and aged rum, but it’s not going to work with white drinks.

For the price it is great value and definitely worth having a go with if you are interested – save the cost of a smoke gun by trying this first!

When this first arrived I was a little upset that one of the tins had arrived opened and hence the wood chips had spilt everywhere. Thankfully this was just one tin, but if it had been more than one it would’ve been a nightmare! Regardless, this set offers a nice range of variety of wood chips, where each has its own original character and bodied flavour. The smoking kit works well and and is easy to use. You do need your own blow torch and whisky glass, but once this is all prepared, you’re ready to go!

After about 20-30 seconds of burning the wood chips at a safe distance, smoke will begin to form inside of the contained whisky glass with your preferred whisky. This is a nice way to add a little more flavour and depth to a whisky. Though, I would recommended to not do this with an already full bodied whisky.

Overall, apart from the spill, this set is nicely presented and of good quality. Overall, 4 stars!

Thank you for reading my honest review, I hope you found it helpful! 🙂

We got into making cocktails in the last year and have heard of using a smoker to make an old fashioned drink.

This has been a fun thing to try out, but you need a blowtorch lighter to make it work. We used our crme brle lighter in the end, which was a bit overkill.

    Pros:
    * Four different woods: each one gives a different flavour
    * 10 replaceable filters
    * Compact so won’t take up much space
    * Adds a nice smokey flavour
    * Easy to use with the right lighter

    Cons:
    * Smoking chamber is wooden, so it may burn eventually

The smoker has been pretty good so far. It arrives packaged in a fairly simple cardboard box, and has all the accessories you need to get going apart from the torch lighter itself.

It has basic instructions on the box which are enough to be honest as it’s fairly easy to follow. It says you need a torch lighter and the only thing we have is a crme brle blowtorch and that seems to be more than sufficient.

To use it, you get the wooden base, put the little gauze disc in the centre, sprinkle your preferred wood in (a tiny bit), and then burn the chips until they start to burn. You then pop the glass over the top, so it flavours the glass before you add your cocktail.

You get four little tins with a good few uses in each. The smoke is noticeably different for each wood too. We particularly liked the cherry and whiskey oak flavours, which works well with darker spirit cocktails.

Overall, it’s a simple concept, and works as you’d expect. It’s a small box so just lives in the cupboard with our shakers. I’d recommend it for anybody who is into cocktails and likes dark spirits which this will compliment perfectly and is a good party trick too.

Compact and simple to use with nice, dark flavours

Very easy to use if you have a kitchen blow torch which we learnt after using a match and the smoke just went up. So you pop in a wire netting into the chimney, add a small pinch of your chosen chips and put over the glass then aim the torch over the chimney and in a few seconds smoke billows into the glass and remains swirling around for a good five mins after so it would give you time to do and then serve to guests. It would be quite freaky if they didn’t know what you were doing. You get a strong smell of it as you take a drink and that stays. I am not too sure how smoky the actual liquid is but there is a lovely after taste.

Good value as you get a lot of different flavour chips. Really makes your drink fun.

I gave this to my Step Dad as a gift and he used it at the weekend and was raving on about how good it was. It’s definitely a novelty item and therefor I wouldn’t say it’s something we would buy again but for a one off it is well worth it for the spectacle. They could not identify what the flavours were but they enjoyed them none the less.
Note – Use a candle lighter if possible, not the most convenient using a standard lighter.

Arrives well packaged, the instructions are on the box so if you need the instructions read or take photos before throwing the box away. In my opinion , this would make a great gift for whiskey , gin and vodka enthusiasts etc who like to experiment with flavours , smells and cocktails . However, you probably will need a blowtorch to get the smoky effect.

A bit difficult to use but that is maybe because I have never smoked before. For people that are used to using this sort of set up it will be really good as the design seems really simple and effective.

I did manage to get some really nice flavours and it did open my eyes to what is possible in terms of making smoke impact whiskey..

I have only ever seen smoked cocktails but never tried one.

I think it works best with whisky or maybe brandy rather than gin or vodka.

In the small box – very simple cardboard box you get – a cocktail smoker, a cleaning brush, 10 replaceable filters and 4 different flavors of pure natural wood chips,

You get three small tins of wood chips, Oak, Cherry, Apple and Pecan – about 60 grams of each flavor

Itcan aslo be used to smoke small amounts of food stuffs such as cheese .

It not only adds flavour to your drink but it also provides a dramatic atmospheric display

It is quite simple to use and the cherry wood smoker with chimney is attractive and allows the glass chosen to quickly fill with smoke.

The best way to quickly get the wood smoking is to use a culinary blow torch as a match is a bit hit and miss. We used our blow torch we use to scorch sugar on our creme brulles.

I had to hand this over to my daughters partner to try out as it was him that mentioned smoking whisky, he is a whisky drinker and I knew this would be right up his street, so far he’s loving it, already tried three of the wood chip selection to try and find the one he most likes.
One problem he has found is using a standard lighter he chars the top so is getting a lighter torch for a better effect.
This is a fun thing for those that like smoky flavour in their drinks, I have yet to try it out with a cocktail of some sort but I need to find what drinks this works with.

    Great For Whisky

This cocktail smoker kit allows you to create a nice visual smoke effect to impress your friends and family when serving shots or cocktails as well as certain food stuffs such as cheeses or meats. Although somewhat gimmicky in its nature, the smoker does create wonderful smelling aromas through the four variety of wood flakes that come with the product (Apple, Cherry, whiskey oak and hickory). In reality, I think for the smoke to truly perfuse through into any food or drink would take a lot longer than the couple of seconds that the instructions suggest and as such, I don’t think significantly changes the taste. However the smells from this are wonderful and the effect is very cool!
In terms of operation, it was challenging to light the wood flakes without having a gas torch (which is highly recommended but does not come with the kit). I used matches but these were far from ideal as they didn’t really provide the top down flame that is needed for the smoker. I imagine it would also start to burn the edges of the wooden smoker after multiple periods of use.
There are no additional instructions other than the 4-point process written on the side of the outer box packaging, although it is not a particularly difficult product to work out how to use.

So i really love my peated (smoky) whiskeys and figured i wood (pun intended) give this a try.

So when you open the box you have 4 tins stacked with wood chips from respected tree/ source; apple, cherry, whiskey oak, and hickory. I presume these are woods from the different respected trees. Although i am still to find a whiskey oak tree, i hear the barrels of whiskey that hang from it’s branches are a sight to behold.

In seriousness the tins have medium wood chips but because they’re not sealed there are a number of chips that have worked their way loose. Into the box and make quite the mess when opened. It’s a small detail but would really make a difference if they were sealed or even taped shut.

You also get a packet with several meshes for holding the wood chips, a cleaning brush and the wood funnnel.

The funnel is probably pine and heavily varnished, which is not great when burning. It would have been better to leave the inside unvarnished to avoid fumes and negative flavours. So it’s a good idea to char it in advance.

Place the mesh in the middle and a small teaspoon of chips. Then apply your blowtorch or blue flame lighter. The smoke will naturally flow into the glass.

I used a propane/butane torch which was a bit overkill and had to snip the video due to said overkill fire.

    After smoking you have 2 options;
    1. Let the smoke stick to the glass and get the flavour of your cocktail and thw smell of smoke on the rim of the glass.
    2. Use a spoon to stir and slosh the drink in the glass to combine the flavours.

Both make for interesting experiences and I would definately recommend trying them…. At least once. If you are hosting you’ll definately give a memorable experience, if it’s just for yourself it will give you an interesting drink.

And the left over charcoal will be going into a mini rum barrel or you can put into a bottle of spirits to help age or smooth the spirit.

    An interesting cocktail experience

Just apply a flame from a torch lighter, or something similar, and this little kit allows you to apply smoke to whiskey, or any other other alcoholic drink, or concoction, of your choice.

You get four small tins of different wood chips, all of which impart a fragrant smokiness to your drink.

The ‘exquisite gift box’ (their description) is perhaps overstating its attractiveness, but the chimney which forms the most substantial part of the kit, is well-made and looks rather nice.

All-in-all, it’s a good little starter kit for those who want to try out the experience without laying out a fortune.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersNot a bad smoking kit. It’s the only one I’ve really tried, so it’s hard to compare to others. I would suggest pre-burning the area where the chips go. The device has the lacquer finish, so burning that off from the inside of the hole is probably a good idea before you add it to a drink. Produces a LOT of smoke very fast….the first drink I made, I WAY over-smoked it and it was terrible. Toned it down a little and the 2nd drink was MUCH more enjoyable. Very easy and quick to use….smaller than having a whole smoke box as well.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersMy husband absolutely loved his, given as a valentines gift. You really get a good amount of wood chips that will last you FOREVER! You really only need about 4 little chips in the cap and it really smokes up so 4 containers of chips and he can tinker with drinks for years lol. I also purchased a cooking torch for crme brle’s and that is exactly what he needed so I highly suggest one as an accompaniment to this! You also receive plenty of mesh discs to burn the wood on. Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersGreat price and great gift! I have tested multiple of these drink smokers and this is one of the most reasonably priced I have found. Four different types of wood chips are included along with a cleaning brush in multiple screens. I loved everything about it except the instructions. In order to get the smoke flavor throughout the entire drink you need to smoke the ice not a glass filled with the drink. If you put in the drink first only the very top of it will get smoke flavored and after your first two sips it’s gone. Smoking the ice ensures that all of the drink will have the smoke flavor. I did find the price to be an excellent value. I’ve seen very similar units costing upwards of $70. This would be a great gift for your favorite bartender or just a friend who loves to play around with mixed drinks.
