It really is a fantastic keyboard for beginners like me. The sound quality is really fantastic and you feel you are not compromising because of the price.
In my opinion, great value for money.
This is value for money considering Yamaha is a too brand. Lots of features with a nice feel to the key bed.
Awesome keyboard with tons of features, I love that you can link your iPad to it using a lead that can be bought separately. The sound quality is amazing and creating your own backing tracks is great fun once you get to grips with it. Highly recommended for beginners and advanced players.
This PSR E463 is fantastic it sounds very good for the price it’s like you have
Got a high end keyboard I can recommend this fantastic delivery very quick
Very happy
It has a lot of features on the keyboard, easy to use .
Bought this for my husband as he loves music. He said it’s brilliant for the money and is suitable for beginners and more advanced as it does so much. He also owns a Tyros 5 which cost over 10 times the price of this so he knows what he is talking about.
Really fun! I play piano and the feel and weight of the keys is very nice for somebody used to a piano rather than a keyboard.
It has so much scope for creating so many different types of music that I’m actually a bit blown away!
I’d highly recommend this for families too, as it can cater to every level of ability and provides some really fun, pro-sounding features if you want to make your own tracks.
There are hundreds of voices to choose from (some better than others as you’d expect) but it’s so versatile you could play almost anything on it.
I absolutely love it. This is not a “beginners” item by any means, although beginners will have great fun with it too because you can use as many or few of the features as you choose.
I wasn’t expecting it to be as good as it is. Keyboards have come a long way!
This is a very reasonably priced, exceptional piece of equipment. But I suppose you wouldn’t expect any less from Yamaha!
My only minor criticism is that it didn’t come with a dust cover, because you really need one.
I wanted to add my own experience of the PSR E463 as I know choosing a keyboard is difficult when there are such an array of choices. I have found that sometimes reviews refer to a different model than the one you are looking at, so I put the model number in the title.
There is no mod wheel on this as stated elsewhere, just pitch control, at least on my model.
Cons
Cheap build quality including the keys (don’t let this put you off – read on)
Rather large though not heavy, if space is an issue. It takes up more space than most 61 keyboards and is quite chunky, a bit of a beast actually.
No octave shift buttons next to keyboard ( you can change the octave but through the function button and dial which is not as convenient ) I was surprised at this design choice.
Given the price I guess they saved on the casing and keybed and instead packed it with features At first the keys looked and felt really cheap, almost like a toy piano, although I think they are full size, but I quickly got used to them and now find them quite easy and enjoyable to play, because of the sound that you get back The touch sensitivity is also impressive, more responsive actually than on another keyboard I own that has semi-weighted keys, which this does not. The touch velocity is adjustable through the functions if I’m not mistaken.
Pros
As mentioned in other posts, loads of features, tons of voices. I bought this model because I wanted the Yamaha sounds and my older PSR began to degrade in quality. I couldn’t replicate them using a soft syntheziser (which is time consuming). I wanted to record the sound from the keyboard so connectivity and output quality were essential. The speakers are ok but again I would say great for home use, not for a gig as probably not loud enough unless you connected to an amp – but see below on quality.
The output through the aux out when recording is disappointedly low-fi, but thankfully the output over usb is not disappointing. This gives you a much higher quality sound when recording in a DAW and it was certainly good enough for me, and while not a pro, I am particular about sound. You can also control a software instrument using the midi, and as you would expect this is pretty much zero configuration plug and play, but to record the audio from the keyboard you set it as the recording interface in you DAW, in my case it showed up as ‘digital keyboard’.
Other features
There is an onboard recording system which I haven’t used, and the groove creator I haven’t really explored yet, but I will say the drumbeat sounds are as impressive as the voices. A note on the voices: If you are used to Yamaha keyboards in the consumer range, then the sounds will probably be similar to older models but there are more choices and a lot of subtle variations, and you can also modify the sounds using different parameters assignable through the two live control knobs. These allow you some ability to sculpt the sound as you are playing.
The interface takes a small amount of getting used to, but once you understand that most settings are accessed through the function button and dial, it’s actually a cool setup as you have most of the functionality focused in one area of the control panel and don’t have to go roaming around it to locate stuff.
I haven’t tried the simple sampler yet, but that was another reason I went for this one. You can record a sound on an external device and record it to the E463 using aux in connection to create your own samples. Don’t know how well this works but will update if/when I try that.
Great sound can’t wait to learn how to play it. I’m sure it’s very capable to play good tunes the drums and accompaniment. Sounds fantastic
Love my new keyboard its perfect for me to learn to play, amazing sounds available. I highly recommend this model not just for beginners but for everyone.
Best thing i ever bought from Amazon!!! Very good quality soundwise!
I like all the sounds, the action and ease to programme. Amazing for the low price
Nice piece of kit
Got more than I’ll probably be able to use in terms of options
Helpful display shows the notes played
This item was delivered on time . In fact before the estimated dates . Excellent service . Very satisfied. S F Lee
Amazing simple words… takes a while to get your head around everything on it..would suit someone with experience rather than a beginner..but it’s amazing kit all round..well worth the money..chose this over the korg
Great bit of kit easy to use and some great features
Many voices to choose from including various piano and organ, and nearly everything that will give a tune in between plus lots of indian instruments. Sound is good and volume is more than adequate for most size rooms but can also be run through a Hi Fi system, sound bar etc but, earphones would be better if only learning. There is also an earphone socket but it is the old type large connector plug you will need and then plug your earphones into that. Comes in large box with music stand and full instruction book and electrical connection.
My family and I love this keyboard and it is used most days. We are beginners, 3 months in now with lessons, and it’s simple to play. Keys are full size, and it has lots of potential and lots for us to learn.
My only bug is that even on max volume it’s not very loud, and needs to feed an amp or something else to sound as it should.
Great buy. We bought the Yamaha stand For it which I would highly recommend.
Make no mistake, this is no toy or plaything… it may be available at or around 300 but for that bargain price you get a serious piece of kit … if you play “just for fun” or something a bit more serious this will do the job. I mainly use the piano and “Keyboard” voices but you can add dual voices to suit and also change the sound using the live control and DSP functions to create something unique. There is also an impressive range of voices for strings, flutes etc etc.. play solo (as I do) , or just for fun play with styles or even the Groove Creator.. All in all, a great value and very well made keyboard.
Happy with this keyboard although I’m still learning so can’t really say much 🙂
Great keyboard. Love the live synth mode. Easy to use and responsive. It is a Yamaha after all!
Absolutely loved it!!!!!! I was hesitant to buy at first but now im so obsessed!
Firstly I have to say I’m absolutely no expert and don’t play at all. I bought this for my wife as a Christmas present.
1 – Various other comments said about the packaging. It is very well packed but Amazon deliver it in it’s OEM form without covering the Yamaha packing so if it’s a surprise like this one was then you’ll have to be very careful when it’s delivered.
2 – The unit isn’t too heavy and is easy to handle and the music stand is easy attachable and easy to detach if you want to move it or put it into storage
3 – The sound quality is pretty good for such small speakers and loud enough to annoy others outside of the room although my wife uses headphones
4 – Apparently the keyboard action whilst not up to much according to the super critical concert pianists that seem to have reviewed this item is well weighted and sprung with a “good feel” according to my wife.
5 – The range of tones, styles and so on is quite incredible for something of this price and my wife hasn’t even used half of them in over three months of playing around so I suspect that other novice users will find the same.
Overall for a novice it’s got a good quality sound, lightweight not too big or small and so long as you have the space, a stand and stool I’m sure this will give you hours, days, weeks and probably years of entertainment.
With this Coronavirus I thought what a perfect time to learn to play the keyboard , only had a few days and I’m already playing a song that is recognisable, the sounds that you can get from this keyboard is amazing , I just wish I started 30 years ago
I’ve been playing a while, and had numerous other keyboards in my time, all dead. This one is great fun, good key action, good sound banks, its built-in speakers make it very easy to turn on and play without external amplification. Would have liked better Midi-interfacing for driving other keyboards, but all-in-all it’s a wonderful keyboard for the price. Recommend.
I have had to give this four stars for the fact that the keyboard sent to me was pre used, covered in fingerprints, the User song memory still had a poorly played tune stored and a poorly packed power supply was in the box and the box was poorly taped up.
The keyboard itself is great with magnificent feature. Anyone without knowledge of music or a keyboard can easily make music with this and its fun to use.
I would highly recommend this keyboard but it would have been nice to receive a new model rather than a 2nd hand one.
Unfortunately, only the UK power plug had to be rebuilt for Europe
Bought the piano for home use. Perfect piano , perfect sound, value for money.
Excellent delivery service.
Having looked at many keyboards I am glad that I chose this one. Easy to set up. Long power cable. Sound is excellent. Screen lot larger than I thought it would be. Does not take too much room. So much to figure out. Paying by monthly instalment without interest was a bonus.
Love it and really enjoy playing it as a beginner learning the notes. Some of the features I probably won’t use.
They call this an entry level keyboard, but it is very sophisticated, well built with many features found on machines costing much more I think they mean a performance entry level, but this would be a fantastic keyboard to seriously learn or for the accomplished player on and would really be a machine to grow into. There is very good connectivity including MIDI, USB, AUX a large selection of over 700 voices, the keys feel good to play, there is a learning curve to master all the features and there are too many to list here, but between the groove creator and the very many styles this machine rocks, and it has some specialisations that take it to another level entirely like the mod wheel and pitch bend and two special configurable knobs that allow a free manipulation of the sound as a whole or specifically to a voice. There are some good appraisal, comparison and feature demonstration videos of this keyboard on Youtube, This is the top of the PSR E Series range and there is a larger version of this model the EW410 with 76 keys, but this one has 61 keys. My overall impression and experience of this keyboard is that for the price you will be hard pressed to find better, it has realistic sounds and a good number of features and feels good to play! Well worth checking out this keyboard if it is within your budget, if not check the cheaper offerings in the same range!
Very pleased with the product taking time to get my head around the buttons but getting there for price is much more than I though
I bought this to replace an older model, and the sound quality is so much better. I am a guitarist and use this for backing tracks and the odd instrument effect. The effects are very convincing – the saxophone finishes with a vibrato – and the backing can be altered to include/exclude drums, base, chords etc. Thoroughly recommended.
It is hard to find any extra style online … there isn’t any information. The product is very good for its price the sound is grate !
There really is nothing bad to say about this keyboard. Yamaha quality built in throughout, and the sound is simply amazing. Even better when hooked up to an external speaker system
Amazing product! Really good quality! I was uncertain whether it’s worth buying more expensive keyboard for my son who only started learning how to play, but what a sound! We’re now tempted to start learning
I am a complete newbie to piano and keyboard. Did not even know the keys repeat or what treble clef meant! So I was looking for a decent keyboard to learn and also for my daughter learning music at high school.
This is a nice product, well built and lots of functions that we can grow into as we learn.
Amazon very quickly replaced the original as a fault developed within a few weeks of light usage. Speakers would suddenly stop working and then work again after a minute or so! The replacement seems to be behaving. Get a decent keyboard stand (I got the Konig and Meyer) and dust cover as well.
Love Yamaha samples…absolutely hate these cheapo keybeds.
really lets the the brand down.
Sort it out Yamaha
If u want a keyboard that’s aimed at beginners and which also has midi connection via a pc, and also a usb that enables playback of midi files using a stick drive I recommend this .
I purchased this keyboard as it is used at the Yamaha music school where I learn keyboard. It is a quality keyboard.
I’m a beginner myself and I started with the PSR-263 but that didn’t have a MIDI connection or velocity keys which I felt was a requirement after just a few weeks of practicing. The 463 is an amazing keyboard for its price. Having a MIDI port allows my practice sessions to give me a more accurate feedback on how well I’m playing. The sound quality is awesome and having a pitch bend wheel is a nice little touch. I’d definitely recommend this keyboard to beginners and intermediate players alike. An expert player may prefer a more expensive keyboard with weighted keys however.
I like it very much.I am still finding my way around it as really I am still learning how to play music.Thank you I enjoy having a go.
Great to get into playing a keyboard again after playing as a child.
Does loads just hope my daughter masters it, But its an amazing bit of kit.
Great piece of kit BUT same negative comment as others who have bought this. Packaging is non existent it comes wrapped in clear film and if bought as a gift can not be hidden! Even a black bin bag cover would have been better.
Very nice keyboard. A great piece of kit for the money.
I’m not musically talented and cannot play the piano but I can appreciate a good bit of kit. I bought this keyboard to entertain and amuse myself primarily. It has many features and abilities, which will keep me busy working them out for ages, while I try to learn a few favourite tunes to play.
it is an impressive keyboard, both in appearance and features, it is bigger than I was expecting and the sound quality is excellent, from the quite large built-in speakers.
Overall I’m impressed with it and consider it to be very good for the modest price and it’s from a good manufacturer. it’s probably ‘too good’ for someone like myself but I’m enjoying exploring all of it’s various settings, voices and sounds etc. I love it and would recommend it for it’s capabilities and creative potential.
