A disfrutar.
If you are buying this product you have probably already done your research. It does what it says it does, albeit after some configuration.
Bought this to connect my PS1 to my new 4k tv as it doesn’t have a scart input. After wasting my money on a scart to hdmi converter and a PlayStation to hdmi converter that both gave very poor picture quality I decided to try an OSSC. I should have bought this in the first place as its a brilliant piece of kit although more expensive. Plug the PlayStation scart into the unit and hdmi from the unit to the tv and straight away a great quality picture. I haven’t used the remote provided to tinker with the image as yet so I should be able to improve it even more in time. Great piece of kit fully recommended.
First off, I am very thankful for the support that I have been getting via Kaico over email. For me, the instructions really don’t do a great job of explaining how to get it configured. I have gone to YouTube, Reddit posts, etc… to find what I need to know. All very confusing though.
First console that I wanted to get connected up to it was my Sega Saturn as it is the console that I have the largest collection of games for (and it was my favourite console as a kid). The picture is perfect (to me) and I am outputting to a 65″ 4K flagship Samsung TV. It is very low in sound though currently, meaning that I am having to really turn up the TV volume high (so high which leaves a slight humming on the speakers) which I really don’t like doing. I am currently in the process of changing my cables to higher quality (more expensive) recommended ones. I will update my review once I have readied up all my devices, including my Amiga CD32 which I have since had a friend mod it to output RGB.
So far, I am impressed but I think that I have a long way to go with it before it is perfect.
item is working fine, perfect crystal clear image on RGB Dreamcast , am yet to try my other retro devices. Super simple to use , as others have stated , read the product page to ensure you are using it correctly. Its not cheap like the other ‘dumb’ converts on the market, but you pay for quality. well worth the money. Able to play Dreamcast on 4k 55inch with perfect picture and no lag
I found at first that this had no sound on it and wasn’t using the latest firmware. A YouTube tutorial and a microsd card fixed this. So far I have only used it with my amiga 600 picture is on the left the picture was good and so was the sound. The right picture is my amiga 500 connected with the pi zero hdmi solution which has no sound and to fit it you need to open up your amiga. It has a good picture and is better than scart. It’s not quite hdmi quality but this device does have a lot of options and it should be able to be tweeked to make it better. Good for retro gaming but a more sophisticated solution to other scart to hdmi solutions.
Great device that let’s us hook our old systems up to modern TV. Awesome customer service as well.
Whatever I throw at this it produces a perfect picture, from Amiga to SNES, Megadrive to Saturn, everything looks amazing. The package supplied by Kaico is top quality and includes everything you need to get going right out of the box. Love it!
looks nice and works well out of the box, good compatability with the machines I want to use with it.
Extremely happy with this device. Does a cracking job of making older systems playable on a modern screen.
I’ve used it with my OG SNES via an RGB Scart cable and it looks a million times better than the standard composite connection – no ghosting, no lag and no sparklies. I understand the shielding on the cable is a big factor with this however, I used a shielded RGB Scart cable I bought off eBay for about 7 and it works a treat.
I’ve also used a PS2 via component cables and this too works brilliantly. PS2 on component looks fairly decent anyway but this device brings simulated scanlines to the table which I understand if personal preference but I prefer it.)
It is important to get it on the latest firmware. When I did this, I had a menu update which improved the user experience massively. Do read the included instructions before using, there are a few handy tricks in the manual.
After trying some other all in one cheaper options that were no good and went for this and I am very pleased. Does take a short while to get your head round first but with some custom profiles added and a rgb scart cable the picture is fantastic. I have it running through my AV receiver with no problems so can also play through my projector.
I use this OSSC with a Super Nintendo (SNES) and GameCube along with cables from the Retro Gaming Cables company in the UK. I set it to 5x lines with generic 4:3 aspect ratio. The audio is clear and is stereo with image quality much sharper. It is not as pixel perfect as using an emulator but I have found emulators do not look, sound, or play the same as the original hardware.
The OSSC is an investment as it is on the pricier side of retro gaming equipment and you also are recommended to buy specialist scart adapter cables to attach to it and the consoles. I’m very happy with the quality so far and will get a lot of use out of this so it is worth it for me.
The Kaico branded OSSC is a great product. It’s a bit fiddly to set but once it is you’re good to go. Would definitely recommend.
This is a fantastic ossc, it runs my snes, megadrive, ps1 and dreamcast brilliant on my 42″ led. It’s plug and play with some great video and audio tweaks, I run four consoles into a scart selector and the selector into the ossc. Can’t recommend it enough for original hardware fans
A great bit of kit for retro gamers who prefer to play old games on the original consoles, but on hdtv’s.
Not really for casual gamers as it takes a bit of effort and research to get the best out of the OSSC – it’s not really a plug n play device.
I use mine for PS1 to 4k tv via a RGB scart, PS2 via component and Gamecube via RGB scart and the picture is truly impressive: almost on par with an actual CRT tv. And zero lag.
My only disappointment is there’s no S-video/composite support for PAL N64. I’ll have to invest in a modded RGB N64 for it to work through the OSSC.
I’ve owned various upscalers in the past – the OSSC isn’t so much an upscaler as a line-doubler/tripler/quadrupler/quintupler – but none have come close to the quality of picture performance of the OSSC. Brilliant. 5*
I’ve been looking for a way to get my Saturn and other older consoles and had been putting off spending so much but finally bit the bullet and I wish I’d done it sooner. Saturn works straight out of the box and with a few minor tweaks looks excellent on my 50inch 4K Samsung. There is lots that you can adjust to get the picture exactly how you wish and all with absolutely no lag added.
Line triple or 5x linescaler will make your games look superb, though only use 5x if your TV accepts oddball resolutions such as 1920×1200, if not 3x will get the job done without cropping the edge of the screen. If you’re a retro gamer then this is a no brainer, all your rgb consoles are supported and the results are a night and day difference over those cheap HDMI cables
Little pricey but does a good job. I bought Kaico version hoping to better quality than some of cheaper ones . It came with generic version remote l was expecting a Kaico version. Over all I’m happy.
I purchased the OSSC for use with my Amiga 2000 and it works perfectly. There are a LOT of controls and settings available on this unit, but within about 10 minutes I was able to get it all connected via RGB-SCART cable to my HDMI monitor. It’s absolutely perfect! Great quality product, and I’m impressed with Kaico’s communication and documentation.
I’d define myself as a semi-serious retro enthusiast. Limited only by my wallet, I’ve kept my old 2006 JVC CRT around simply because nothing within my price range could make my old PS1/2 look any better than it does on a CRT.
Neither does this. However, it covers all the bases I need to finally put that old (honorable) beast in storage. Running my PS2 through this OSSC with HD Retrovision component cables to a Sony HDTV has breathed new life into my old consoles. It does not look better than the CRT but some games come close and the rest are more than acceptable.
The games supporting 480p (Valkyrie Profile Silmeria for example) look really good.
Note this does not ‘smooth jaggies’ and it isn’t supposed to. It does make the output far cleaner and truer to the original signal than any option I’ve found for <$500.
The OSSC is a great device if you are looking to reach beyond what Composite video and your flatscreen is offering you with your older consoles!. I mainly use this with my PS2 paired with HD Retrovision component cables and it’s a night and day difference! If you plan on running Scart or Component video with all of your older consoles(if you are here then I’m sure you are aware that some retro consoles will need modded to output RGB over scart or component cables) this is without a doubt the device you will need! There are a lot of settings to tinker with, but I suggest the generic settings, and play with the 2x,3x,4x, and 5x modes and see what you like best. At 200 dollars, this is a small investment well worth it if you are a console collector and want to get the best output out of original hardware, as the Framemeister has reached unobtainable prices for the average gamer.
I’ve been using this for a month and it’s been brilliant. SNES, megadrive, and Dreamcast have never looked better! There are guides online to get the best picture, but it all works out of the box regardless. Absolutely essential for playing older games consoles on a Monday TV/monitor.
Great product that’s been built to a very high standard, picture is great, no input lag. This is so much better than the cheaper hdmi converters you so, would definitely recommend for anyone who wants to play their old consoles on modern TVs
I am using this with a Sega Saturn and the results are superb especially on X3 . It’s very easy to use even if you know very little about the Myriad of settings and the terminology used around this subject. It simply plugs in and works, all you have to do is select the input you are using and connect the HDMI Output to a TV and you will be sorted. If you want to improve on the basics you can but I don’t think I will bother as everything looks great for me out of the box. Also “NO LAG” none….nothing….well not that I can detect so that’s what matters, even when I am using a wireless “retrobit” controller there is no detectable lag. I am using a decent SCART cable from retrogamingcables, sync on luma……which I also highly recommend. I don’t know what sync on luma is but it makes me look quite knowledgeable . All said and done I am very happy with this little guy it does a great job, solves many problems, easy to setup and I think great value. I have seen an interview with the young fella Markus that designed the OSSC and he is a very bright fella. Thank you Markus.
Macht was es soll.
Luft.
Not much to say that you won’t have read before, the OSSC is a fine piece of kit for upscaling, scanlines etc. I use it with a splitter and capture card to get the lowest possible latency on HDMI and it delivers consistently. The level of adjustability is really nice, making it the best available upscaler for retro console gaming.
Out of the box this works great for the most part. A few issues with the Amiga in Workbench but otherwise very solid. I’m very pleased with it.
One area for improvement is the documentation. The printed manual is nice but it doesn’t really cover very much, and the online wiki assumes you already understand all the technical details. Not a deal breaker by any means, but something to look into as a development point.
Amazing product amazing seller buy this from kaico as customer service is excelle
Compra recomendada.
I use it to connect my SNES via scart to my HD beamer (SNES – scart – OSSC – HDMI – beamer) and the quality is great (way better than SNES – whatever cable – beamer).
Now I can play my old games on a super expensive modern setup, and still have the image quality of a 1992 cathod TV.
Isn’t it great?
Highly recommended
I’ve had my OSSC for just under a year but recently the AV3 (VGA) port had stopped picking up the colour red, so all my video output from that connection (Dreamcast) was showing a blue tinted picture.
I contact Kaico for help/advice to resolve this and they offered to replace the unit if I sent the faulty one back. Which I did. I had my replacement within a week and very happy to see the full colour range on my Dreamcast again!
What can I say, this device is the best. Perfect video output and audio. I did have trouble running Tomb Raider at the low resolution through this device, but the high resolution worked just fine.
