This portable DVD/CD player/burner by LPUNCD is very lightweight and compact and is a convenient way to play your discs on many devices. We have both an old Windows machine running Windows 7 and a Mac Mini running OS10 and it connects and plays automatically without issue on both using a standard USB 2.0 input. The player gets its power from the USB port so no other cables are required and it also comes with a USB-C adapter if you have those ports.

The device is simple enough and runs smoothly for the most part but we did have an issue which required a replacement request. We’re using it mostly to rip our old CDs to a backup drive so it does get used fairly frequently at times. The first device began to make some weird mechanical noises and started to get fairly hot. It also struggled to read certain CDs that would otherwise work fine on another player. After less than 2 weeks of use, it would not read any CDs which was when we processed a return/replacement. The seller issued a new player immediately and we had a new one within a few days. We’ve had no problems with the new one so far and we’ve been able to rip dozens of CDs. Props to M-Meju Tech for an easy replacement!

We haven’t tried to burn any discs with this device yet and are unlikely to as we tend to backup our media to hard drives. For the current price of $22.99 this device is very affordable and serves our needs well but I will update should we run into any issues with the replacement drive. 4 stars.

Essentially Plug and Play but with Some Reliability Issues

A very handy device as most laptops dont come with a DVD/CD drive these days. You simply plug it in to any USB C port on your laptop and it is ready to use. I have used it on a number of Windows based laptops, using Windows 11, 10 and even XP. It doesnt need external power using USB C. If you dont have USB C on your laptop i t will also work well using an external hub. It is super quick, the USB C provides very high speed connection. It also works very well with all kinds of CD/DVD and writeable media disks.
    An excellent device, highly recommended

Many new pc don’t come with CD/DVD Roms as well a lot of people don’t use them

I was looking for an external dvd that i was able to burn some projects on for my dad, when i was offered this i jumped at the chance.

It arrived in the branded box and to be honest on removing it was better than i expected, its well made lightweight but surprisingly durable.

Its simple plug and play, you have a choose of usb or usb-c i opted for usb-c as it provided faster data transfer, i was using windows 10 pro without issue but just upgraded to windows 11, i did not have an issue with it appearing in the system list but i have yet to burn another project.

Over all it did the job i need it to do and it did it well i will be doing another dvd project shorty using windows 11 pro i will come back and update

This is exactly what I needed for my new laptop which, as with all laptops no longer comes with a disk drive so this is essential to play DVD’s, burn CD’s and install programmes for me which I find easier to do manually than go to websites and enter codes etc.

This is easy to use, works well and is an adequate speed for what I need. The cable is quite short as is the case with things like this to keep it close to the laptop but a longer cable is easy to get if needed.

Recommended, very useful and works well.

This is a well made little drive, and works really well.

It’s plug and play on Windows, either via normal USB or USB C. I’ve tested writing to both CD’s and DVD’s, and I had no issues with failed burns. It was also fine playing both CD’s and DVD’s.

I’m pretty sure USB 3 is just a gimmick for this, even the top DVD and CD read speeds wouldn’t come close to maxing out USB 2, let alone write speeds.

The price is a little high compared to some other options available.

There are many similar products on the market that claim to be P n P but aren’t as they require a mini disk with drivers to install them. However, there also many that are true P n P (Plug and Play) and this is one of them.

To be Plug and Play (P n P) a manufacturer has to have it’s products registered with Microsoft when a major update or a new version of Windows is released. Over time, many small manufacturers can build components / devices that can be run on the Windows Generic Drivers and that all depends on the internal working parts and the manufacturers of those parts. If a DVD Drive, either internal or external, requires a drivers download or comes with a drivers disk then it is simply not P n P.

This drive is true P n P and it takes all of around five seconds for Win 10 to recognise the product and install the drivers to run it.

Sadly, although this drive installed within seconds it doesn’t read my CDs. The little information in the leaflet says that should it nor read CDs then one should play them in “Windows Media Player”? I don’t know why they mention “Media Player” as it has not been included in Windows 10 and to all extent it has become obsolete. However, some that have Win 10 Pro will still find Media Player and most that have Win 10 Pro and are a Windows Insider will certainly have it. Media Player is still supported by Microsoft but most PC users simply can not get it as it is not wdely available. So, why has the manufacturer mentioned that CDs might need to be played through “Windows Media Player”? Is it because this drive is also obsolete? Actually that is not the answer, this drive is nowhere near being obsolete. So, it appears that somebody that works for the manufacturer is still using Win XP or even Win 98, possibly Win 95 to think Win 10 users have Media Player.

Sadly, even through Media Player this drive does not recognise my CDs but that is not a big deal as I can copy my CDs directly from my D Drive to a CD-R or CD -RW in this drive. Once I have copied my CDs I can then play them through this drive.

It’s only because of the CD playback issue that I have lowered the rating from 5* to 4*. For DVDs and DVD R / RWs this is a good device as it can save a lot of valuable space on a laptop’s HDD by storing files on DVDs rather than the HDD. One can copy movies, store images etc. etc. onto a removeable disk. However, I would not advise that this device be used as an alternative to a Hard Drive as there are many external HDD products available and one can now get a 3Tb external drive for around the 100 mark so it is not a good idea to use this as an alternative. To reach 3Tb one will have to purchase a minimum of 750 DVD -Rs /-RWs which will cost close to the 1,000 mark when considering the number of disks that fail. An external HDD can be taken and used in any PC, laptop and even an X Box games system. This drive would need to be reformatted to be used in a games system and then any files recorded to disk would not be readable on a PC or laptop. The same applies with using this on a PC or laptop, one will not be able to play back on a portable DVD Player or a games system. So, this product does have it’s disadvantages as well as it’s advantages. If one reformats a new disk one can store music files that can be read by any device that can playback those files, such as MP4 files.

Also note that this player can only read and write to ROM disks and cannot read or write to RAM Disks, unlike my PC’s internal DVD Drive. It also cannot read / write / playback Bluray disks, unlike my internal drive. So, going back to the “Windows Media Player” question it does look like this drive is a little dated now. It can’t do anything with Bluray, it doesn’t support DVD RAM. which is similar to a HDD and it can’t playback my music CDs.

Taking everything into consideration, including the fact that this is a USB 3.0 device, which is also a little outdated now as many devices are now USB 3.2 (the ones with a purple interface) and USB 4.0 is already here.

I am still recommending this product as it is still a good product for those laptops that either have no DVD drive or only one drive. It is good for those cost cutting PCs that also have no DVD Drive. This is a good product for storing one’s photos, videos and documents and it is a cheap solution. The drive itself is of good quality and is well built. It is strong and even comes with a built in USB A 3.0 cable and a USB C 3.0 adapter. It is a good value product and with the USB C 3.0 adapter I found that this can also connect to Smart Phones so there will be a way to share data between this drive and a Smart Phone I just haven’t looked for it yet.

This USB 3.0 external DVD drive comes in a printed box and inside you’ll find an instruction leaflet and the drive.

The caddy has a nice, wavy design to its casing which looks unique and reflects the light nicely. The DVD drive can read and write both CDs and DVDs with no issue and can write them reasonably quickly. The drive is essentially the same as you’ll find in a laptop except this has been installed inside an external caddy. It has both USB-A and USB-C support with the built in USB lead which is stored underneath. USB-C support is available when using the included USB-C adapter. The USB lead is quite short though so will need to be close to your laptop or PC to be able to use it. There are 4x rubber feet on the bottom to help minimize the vibrations while the disc is spinning and these work well to minimize the noise.

Plugging into a Surface Pro, with Windows 11, and Windows picked it up straight away and it came up as another drive. I could read and write to the drive with both CDs and DVDs and no errors were reported on write completion. Power is supplied via the USB connection so no external power supply was needed, just a connection a computers USB port.

A great way to have access to your CDs or DVDs of your laptop hasn’t got a drive. It’s a simple as just plugging it in and you’ll then have a useable drive

The easiest way to add DVD drive support on your laptop, which doesn't have one built-in...

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersLPuncd External USB 3.0 DVD CD Drive
The LPuncd external drive comes in a colour printed cardboard box. The drive itself is in a formed plastic tray inside a plastic bag. Also included is a USB-A to USB-C adapter and a simple set of instructions.
The LPuncd drive is well made and solid feeling, an eject button on the front of the drawer becomes active when the unit is plugged in and there is an activity LED set into the drawer front. There is also a small hole for accusing the eject mechanism with a probe in case of power failure. The adapter plug can be attached to the end of the USB-A lead for use with devices with a USB-C interface.
Maximum read and write speeds are 24x for CDs and 8x for DVDs which is quite respectable for, what is, a budget priced drive. And considering it can read and write CD-R, CD-RW, CD-ROM, DVD-R, DVD-RAM and DVD-RW, the price is quite competitive.
I attached the LPuncd drive to a USB-3 hub which is connected to my desktop Windows PC. The system recognised it and added it within a very short time and it was ready for use.
I first recorded some music to a CD for use in my car, it accomplished this with no problem at all. Next, I recorded a film file to a DVD-RW and played it on my DVD player attached to the downstairs TV, this also worked fine.
I have two desktop PCs, the newer of which doesn’t have a DVD drive. This is becoming more common as most people move on to storing their data on microSD cards. However, there is still a need to cover older types of storage media, I still have external floppy drives (3 and 5 inch) for those odd occasions when stuff crops up on those kinds of media.
The LPuncd external drive works well and can be invaluable for machines without a CD or DVD drive.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersAs most laptops don’t come with a CD DVD drive now, I was happy to be able to review this external CD DVD drive. It’s suitable to be used with most makes of laptops, desktops, iMac and Apple computers. It is currently priced at 22.99 (20.69 for Prime members) and is available in black, red or white. I received the black one and have been using it with my HP laptop which has Windows 10 installed on it

Now I’m not overly tech savvy, as long as I can plug something in, maybe download an app to go with it and use it pretty much straight away, then I’m happy. That was the experience with this external drive, using the USB wire that is attached to the drive, I plugged it into my laptop and was directed to download an app to be able to use it to watch DVD’s with, an assortment came up, and I picked the first free one available, downloaded it to my laptop and was able to put a DVD in the drive and watch a movie. Job done

The USB wire that is attached is rather short, so you’d need to keep the drive quite close to your laptop, ok if using on a desk, but on your knee is slightly more awkward, that’s the only wee downside to it, but as it wraps around the base of the drive when not in use, it probably couldn’t be much longer anyway

I’ve not used it for burning CD’s or DVD’s yet, but this feature will be handy to use as back up for photos and videos I have stored on my laptop, and means I can watch the old videos of my children when they were younger (they were transferred onto DVD years ago)

I’ve found this drive easy to use and set up, it works well with Window’s 10 on my laptop too. Happy to recommend

After my laptop died I needed one rather urgently and found one with a great price and great functionality but what I failed to notice was that there was no CD drive, something I had thought of as built in to every computer since time began so that will teach me to pay more attention.

I love my music and like to rip my CD’s straight onto my tunes account and add them to all my devices so I can enjoy them wherever I am. thankfully this CD drive works perfectly, it is plug and play and just gets on with it quickly.

I’m not using it for anything other than importing my own CD’s but given how quickly and quietly it does this I’m sure burning CD’s would be just as efficient and for the low price of 23 it has become an unexpected essential item for me as new CD’s arrive monthly with forgotten 60’s and 80’s gems always finding me, an easy recommendation which would be fully five stars if it came with a carry case for protection.

I got the ot red version of this and it stands out like a sore thumb against my white custom built PC, but that’s fine, as this is an item that is plug and play. So I get it out the drawer when needed and put it away after, it’s not really for display purposes (unless your setup is red!)

Performance of this is substantial, it does what it needs to do albeit at slower speeds than a fully fledged drive, but unless you’re using disks all day every day you really won’t notice the difference in normal use.

Can get a little on the noisy side but that is all the mechanical parts inside doing its thing, i feel that’s more about the technology rather than against this item.

All in all it does what it needs to do and is reasonably priced!

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersAs most computers don’t now come with the inclusion of a dvd or bluray drive, it is always useful to have one around as for instance being able to watch movies from your possible collection or even bought as there are some extremely cheap dvd movies that are available for purchase.

This dvd player comes with an integrated USB-A cable which can be a good thing (no extra wires to carry/lose) and also a bad thing (when the cable goes it’s effectively a dead unit). The wire is tucked away on the bottom of the player when not in use and keeps everything tidy.

The cable is not that long so the player must be kept very close to the computer. The loading tray ejects from the front of the player so that the dvd can be inserted, and pushed back in let the computer read the contents of the disc.

I tried this on both macOS and Windows 10/11 and the OS on both laptops recognised it immediately without the need for any drivers to be installed, and I could start watching the inserted movie straight away.

Just plug it in and my Windows 10 laptop just picked it up and read the DVD’s – works fine with both data disks and film disks and is very quiet in operation.

A neat unit that is powered by the USB socket (no external power needed). The short cable tucks away neatly underneath. As it’ll be mainly used with laptops a short cable is all you need. The cable has a USB-A plug on it, but it also comes with an adapter to USB-C (which stores on the end of the cable underneath). All very tidy.

I’ve no issues with this at all.

It has to be connected directly to the computer. It doesn’t support windows 10 computers. You can easily read your CD or you can also burn your CDs. It uses usb 3.0 cable , an extra type C adapter is provided in case you needed. Although it is a bit noisy , it is lightweight and portable. I don’t use it often but it is handy to have

I connected this to the USB C port on my Geopad 220 tablet running Windows 11, and it performed superbly without me having to install any drivers. It showed a full movie without any problems at all, with full HD picture and stereo sound.

It was comparable in terms of speed with my old PC’s inbuilt DVD player, and the only downside that I could find was that it was quite noisy. It was quite nice rhat it has a built in cable, and the fact that this cable works with both USB3 and USB-C is a definite plus.

The following review comes courtesy of my teenage son:

‘A very nice and compact external DVD drive.

The drive comes with an attached USB lead and includes a USB-C adapter, which makes it future-proof.

The lead itself folds up underneath the drive. This makes the whole device easy to carry along as there are no loose wires.

This is a very handy back-up or replacement drive for those that find their new laptop, notebook or PC no longer comes equipped with one. It will read all standard optical discs (not BluRay) from music CDs, old PC games on CD-ROM, to DVD.

At this price you cannot go wrong, whether it will be your main drive or back-up.’

This was a great opportunity to test one of these cd/dvd external devices as we have recently purchased a new laptop for the wife, which of course, like most nowadays, didn’t come with an internal optical drive.

This particular model from Lpuncd is an external device which can be used by both cd and dvd mediums. The unit is USB 3.0 but can also be configured for use in a ‘C’ port by attaching the included adaptor. The drive type is a CD/DVD-RW burner and is compatible with most variations of Windows/Linux and MacOs although best to check for your own specifics relating to this.

The device derives its power from the host which is the wife’s Acer laptop in our case and it appears to be a simple case of plug and play as there are no cd driver’s accompanying the product. The product has been designed in such a way that the cable and connector can be clipped into a groove on the base of the unit keeping it neat and tidy when not in use. However, as aesthetically pleasing as that might be, this design allows you only 10 inches of wiggle room for situating the device.

All of my testing, that is, playing cd’s and dvd’s worked fine under windows 10 as did my attempt at burning a dvd and given you have the appropriate software for the job the Lpuncd seems to be up to the task. Nice, slim and stylish.

The images provided by the seller are accurate, so please refer to those where necessary.

This is a great little external drive that allows you to regain access to those CDs, DVDs and PC disk games since many computers no longer have the internal drives anymore. The product is very well made with a solid plastic body and cabling that fully slots into the casing of the device. Worked almost immediately after plugging in.

    Highly recommended!

Handy external CD/DVD Drive/Burner that has an attached USB 3 Lead with USB C adapter. The drive works well – simply connect to your computer/laptop and it just works – allowing you to play cds or dvds (with software). It also supports writing CDs and DVDs in many formats such as CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD-RAM etc. Useful to have and will fit in most laptop bags or briefcases. The cable is stored on the base of the drive so it is always to hand. A well built and handy external drive especially when many machines don’t come with a drive nowadays.

This review is for the LPUNCD External CD DVD Drive, USB 3.0 & Type-C CD/DVD-RW Rewriter Burner, for Laptop, Desktop, iMac, Apple MacBook Air/Pro, Compatible with Windows 11/10/XP/8/7/Vista/Linux/MacOS (Black)

22.99 at the time of review.

It arrives in an illustrated, strong, cardboard box and is protected inside by a moulded plastic tray. There is a small set of instructions.

As others have noted, the USB C connection is actually a converter from USB A to USB C but it still works. The cable is also short, being intended for connecting to a laptop rather than a PC, and the underside of the drive has a notch for storing the cable when it’s not in use.

It connected right away using Windows 10 and burned to CD-R disks without any problems, although not as fast as the built-in DVD writer on my laptop is, but it was reasonably quiet while writing and reading. I didn’t test it with DVDs.

The advertising states: “This drive is not fully compatible with Windows 10 computers due to compatibility issues between Windows 10 itself and external hardware.” This has to be hogwash and if it is true, then it is unforgivable at this stage of Window 10’s development not to be compatible. They also suggest using VLC to play music and burn it. I burned and listened to the music with basic Windows’ apps and it worked just fine.

It also states: “To the laptop has sufficient power supply to burn CD/DVD, you could use the charging cable while burning.” There is NO port to supply power to the drive, so I am assuming this statement and the one above is nonsense and should be ignored.

It looks to be solid enough, but it is up to 1/3 more expensive than others of a similar type, and the cord is short (as explained above) so I am giving this external CD DVD drive 4 stars even allowing for the nonsense advertising.

The LPuncd DVD CD Drive External drive is a low cost way of adding a DVD player and recorder to your Mac or Laptop. It has a cable included in the main body, making it easier to carry around with your laptop, and it’s recognised by both Windows and Mac OS straight away.

The drive itself is fairly well built but basic and plastic feeling. In operation it’s ok, nothing special and does make a fair bit of noise. The writing to disc is fairly fast and reading is ok but not the fastest I’ve seen. It will play movies as long as you have the right software and seems to cope with them ok.

Generally it’s a cheap and cheerful drive that is a bit dated considering the fact you can get Bluray versions for a little more but it works and is easy to use.

A portable DVD burner is very useful especially nowadays that most laptops don’t have one built-in anymore.

The burner is equipped with USB 3.0 and has a 5Gbps transfer speed which is 10x faster than the USB 2.0. It supports all notebooks and desktops- plus it is compatible with a most existing computer systems such as Windows 2000/2003/XP/7/8/10, Vista, MacOS of all versions, Apple MacBook Air and MacBook Pro. Furthermore, it can also read various formats such as CD-R, CD-RW, CD-ROM, DVD-R, DVD-RAM, DVD-RW and so on. Take note that this is CE, ROHS and FCC certified making it really safe to use.

I use this to install software on my laptop and for me, it does the job well. I noticed that it is well made and even though the case is plastic, it doesn’t look cheap at all. One thing that is off is that I am not a fan of its red colour maybe because it’s too bright and eye-catching. I prefer black when it comes to this kind of devices so it will blend into everything.

Talking about its price, well I think it’s a bit pricey for a DVD burner itself, but if you don’t mind paying around 22.99 then this could be good for you.

Now a days, the use of discs is just nowhere near as much as it was 10 years ago, however there is still a need for it sometimes i feel, even though most laptops don’t have a disc drive included anymore.

This is where portable drives are so good, one simple usb and that’s all you need, it amazing how small, compact and cheap these are now a days, works pretty much with any computer straight out of the box, there’s no need to install any drivers or anything of the sort, just plug and play.

It’s not noisy either, works great just like any other dvd rom drive i’ve ever used, but it’s much more convenient to use here. They also include a usb C converter which is a nice touch, as newer computers are starting to lack on typical usb A ports.

Overall, works well and is well priced too, i will recommend.

I ordered this external CD/DVD drive as my laptop doesn’t have an internal one and I have wanted to start watching DVDs on my laptop when I travel as watching films on my phone is just no good for me.

So I got this to enable me to watch films on my laptop and I am very pleased I did as this has worked really well from day one and means I can sit back on the train and relax watching my DVDs now thanks to this.

It’s very easy to set up and didn’t take me long to get my laptop to recognise the drive and do the required work to get them to sync. It reads my DVDs correctly every time and doesn’t take long to load.

It feels well made and quite robust, even though it is light. I love the white colour of it as it stands out.

I’m pleased I got this as such a simple item is now giving me many hours of entertainment.

These days there isn’t all that much use for this sort of external drive as far as I can see. However if you do need to access any DVD/CD then you almost certainly need one of these! So few devices have optical drives now. For me there are some CDs that I rip and so I tried this out on them as well as using it on some old DVDs. The instructions are not overly helpful however simply plugging this in on my Windows 10 laptop allowed me to access the drive (without any apparent “setup” happening). It worked fine with audio and video files on there. I was partly drawn to this as it had a USB connection as an option. This is simply a converting plug and seemed to have not been planned/well designed but it did work. The standard USB cable folds neatly under the device but there is nowhere for the C extender. Not a bad price and works on my system.

It has great noise reduction, it comes with anti-shake, error correction and fast recording at up to 24x for CD’s, and 8x for DVDs. It can use the following media, CD-R, CD-RW, CD-ROM, DVD-R, DVD-RAM, DVD-RW etc.
It’s lightweight and small enough to slip in your computer bag, which allows you to take it with you anywhere. Such a great colour, you’re certainly not going to misplace them.

This is pretty old school now, I remember when everyone used to have one of these to plug into their older laptops that didn’t come with one capable of writing discs.(or you could cheat, take apart the one from the portable writer and 90% of the time they would fit in the laptop just fine!)

This one works great at reading cd’s and dvds. The writing performance is fast too, no errors on any that I did. This is also plug and play so doesn’t require any special drivers to be installed. Just to note, these will never be anywhere near as fast as hard drives at reading and writing data. Cd/dvd drives are just an older styled way to take your data on the go or store it. Flash drives all but made these redundant. Personally I have a lot of data DVD’s with years and years worth of family photos, videos and some music stored from my dads house so I’ll be having a look through some of them, now that I can.

It’s honestly to find a reason not to give this a 5 star review is it literally does everything it claims, looks sleek and works well.

I love these DVD/CD drives as I download a lot of music, which I then put onto CD. This one is very easy to use – you simply plug it in and watch as your PC recognises it. Then you simply burn a playlist from Windows Media Player once you slip a blank CD in. A word of warning that applies to all of these portable DVD/CD players; sometimes they stop working as the PC does not recognise the DVD – in such cases simply do a system restore and I find they then work fine afterwards. As I say, this does not necessarily apply to this one but is something to bear in mind. Of course, this also works with non-Windows PCs and is a decent piece of kit to add onto your PC.

LPuncd DVD CD Drive External, USB 3.0 & Type-C Portable DVDBurner, CD DVD +/-RW ROM Red/Black

Love the colour and design, comes very well presented also.

Most laptops don’t have optical drives now so these external drives can come in very useful indeed.

I’ve tested this on my Dell Inspiron 14 using the USB 3.0 port. The laptop immediately recognised the drive and was able to play a movie DVD on the laptop using VLC.

One has the option to store files to RW discs if you have any, I admit you won’t get much storage on a disk but at least you can store files with this external drive.

I shall be using this purely for watching my collection of DVD movies on the laptop.

Oh, before I forget, the power for the drive is taken via the USB port so no need for any extra cables.

    Very highly recommended.

It’s incredible how times change… it would be unthinkable a few years ago to have a PC without a Disc Drive, but now almost all PCs (particularly the compact ones) simply don’t have the need for one.

My parents however are Old Skool and would prefer to watch Home videos on a DVD player rather than on a Laptop or Tablet. I have been using my old Laptop to convert the videos as my main PC does not have a drive, BUT for just over 20 this external DVD RW means I can plug it in, burn a disk and then put it away in the cupboard.

I am using Windows 10, and the installation was pretty quick and I have to say it really does the trick. I have never seen the brand before, but it works and that is the main thing 🙂

It worked as soon as I plugged it in and I had no issues setting it up as plug and play.

Useful to have to read the odd disk in our house with no devices now that have them inbuilt. If you expect a cheap and cheerful drive then you won’t be disappointed, the quality of the plastic build is budget quality, it feels brittle and lightweight (in a bad way) but having said all that it does work.
It all depends what you want to use it for, I only want to burn music cd’s and read backup dvds of photos and the occasional driver disc, things like that, and for that it’s ideal.

The transfer speeds are perfectly fine for that kind of use, I installed a DAW from a DVD and it was quicker than over the network backup but a fair bit slower than the sata connection I used to have.

In a nutshell it’s a cheap and cheerful drive that is good to have in the draw when you get the odd CD or DVD to use and not for the serious user. I tried playing a DVD from it and it was fine without any skipping.

A cheap and cheerful build. Useful as nothing has dvd drives anymore

Our computers didn’t come with CD / DVD drives but we still occasionally need to use one, so it’s really handy to have a portable drive that we can plug in as necessary. It’s a pretty basic drive but it gets the job done and doesn’t need any drivers to be installed before it’ll work which makes it very easy to move from one computer to another.

Weirdly the box it came in didn’t actually say it’s a CD or DVD drive, must be generic packaging for a range of devices. Anyway it looks good and works well, at least for occasional use.

It writes at 24x speed, i still get asked for DVD’s so its nice to use something faster than my old Superdrive.

The DVD drive is slim and it has a nice futuristic design on the top. It’s not that noisy and reads the DVD and CD content very quick without hiccups.

I tried this drive on the WINDOWS 10 and MacBook Air with the USB3.0 and it worked perfectly not drivers need it, just plug and play. As I will use it casually for me this drive is perfect and affordable.

Also, the connector comes with USB3.0 and adaptor Type C. The ejection of the dvd/cd is normal with the button on the device or from the computer option.

My wife and I have been around for a rather long time, most of it before Netflix and Prime, so have a really large collection of DVDs. Add that to current computers rarely having a DVD drive and our summer evenings in the garden watching a movie on the laptop or projector screen are limited to on line content. My old DVD drive gave up a while back so this has been a good replacement.

My MacBook and iMac, as expected, recognised the drive with no issues and it has played back everything placed in it. I have not tried burning a disc yet. That used to be a regular job but I guess that most people are like me these days. Much easier to use an SD card.

The drive seems to be manufactured to a reasonable standard. being an Apple user I quite like the white finish but maybe not the wavy top surface. That’s just my taste though. I do like the fact that the connecting cable is fixed and is stored in a groove in the base so no hunting around for a cable. A note to modernity is that the end of the cable is USB and has a USB-C adapter which also fits in the base. Perfect for travelling.

Note that this is a DVD drive and not a Blu-ray drive.

This cheap generic drive worked just fine on my cheap generic Windows 10 PC as a DVD drive with Handbrake. It was simple to set up (plug and play, literally) – it’s just a bare drive in a moulded case. It came with a micro-USB adaptor – a USB-C adaptor would probably be more useful – that is accommodated in the stowage slot on the base with the cable. The moulding has a nice enough pattern on it for it to be left on the desk, which is just as well because the USB cable is a bit short and it’s wired in so you can’t use a longer one. I’d have no hesitation saying you should include it as an option if it fits your price profile.

This slimline DVD drive comes well packaged with instructions. The build quality and overall design is decent. There are four rubber feet on the base, while the top has some stylised corrugation. There is a slot cut away in the base where the cable folds into. The cable isn’t long but it is suitably flexible. It’s USB-A by default (USB 3.0) but a USB-C adapter is attached for connection into Macbooks and other devices without USB-A ports. On the front is the eject button, a power light and hole for forcible ejection (which I haven’t had to use, but it’s nice to know it’s there).

The drive supports all the standard CD and DVD formats as well as VCDs and can be used for recording as well as playback. I have used it to burn CD-RWs, DVD-Rs and DVD-RWs using Nero and it’s performed perfectly. As well as CDs and DVDs I tested a few VCDs in it too and it played them all with no issues.

The drive didn’t need any installation, my computer recognised it as soon as I plugged it in. It runs fairly quietly, unlike some other drives I have had in the past. The only thing missing is blu-ray compatibility but as far as CDs and DVDs go, it’s great. More and more laptops these days come without any kind of disc drive but I still use discs a lot so I am happy to have this drive. It’s well made, looks good and works exactly as it should.

I really like this portable interface drive. I chose the white version and it looks stylish, almost decorative sat on my desk with its gorgeous ripple texture. It is also very neat, as the cable can be stored underneath in a channel when not in use and it has a small footprint. There is a green light to show when it’s working and it is pretty quiet. It is plug and play, and had no issues with either CDs or DVDs. The only thing that I’m not so keen on is the USB cable; it is short and comes with both a USB-A fitting and a USB-C, but they feel poor quality to me, although they do work perfectly fine

This simple optical drive plugs into a USB-A socket or a USB-C socket and is ready to use in a matter of seconds. In this day of few optical drives installed in new laptops (or desktops) it is essential to have access to a plug in drive like this. This will read CD’s, or DVDs and also burn onto blank disks too.
For me it is essential to be able to load data or programmes from CD ROM, and I have backups going back years also. It also allows me to play music CD’s or upload my collection as MP3’s too.
This is ultralight, and easily operates on my Surface Pro, giving me access to optical media when I need it. A great value product that adds to your access to data at the moment that you need it.

So many of the newer laptops don’t actually include a DVD drive anymore which to me seems bizarre.
Both mine and my son’s Laptops are without one.
    This drive helps with that.
You just plug it into your laptop using the short usb cable that folds out conveniently from the bottom.
It can plug into a USB A socket or use the adaptor that comes with it for usb C
It gets its power from the laptop
The drive can read DVD R and RW and CDs and DVD video discs

You can use it just like you would a built in optical drive.

It runs fine on Windows 10.
There are instructions for using it under MAC OS 10

This works on plug and play.
No software or discs come with it but there are several freeware programs available on the internet which will work for things like writing DVDs/ CDs and watching videos

I used VLC (freeware program)for watching a video and it worked perfectly well.

The case is plastic (Mine is white) with a wave pattern on top.
Its very light weight and because the cable is integrated, would be easy to add to your laptop sleeve or bag.
It doesn’t have a cover of any kind.

If you are carry this around with you, to use with your laptop, you will need to take care as the case is entirely plastic.

This cant be used with a TV or tablet .

Works with all the discs I own and has an easy stow cable
