Great camping mat that is slightly wider than others I’ve used making it relatively comfortable – for a camping mat! So easy and simple to use, simply inflate by hand or foot using the pump already inside the mat and to deflate, simply remove the air valve. I love that it fits into a nice small carry bag and is lightweight making it ideal for quick use when out camping or even days at the beach. It is easy to clean too and seems fairly waterproof though I’ve not really tested that out.
No surprises with this sleeping mat, it does all the things it says it does. Inflation is easy with the integral pump, although it takes a bit of effort, and it’s comfortable to sleep on. Lying on it insualates you from the ground nicely, but you’ll find if you sit on it or raise yourself up on an elbow then you’ll ‘bottom out’ and feel the ground beneath. No big deal for a lightweight camping mat, but if you’re expecting egyptian-cotton levels of comfort you might be disapointed.
It packs up nice and small and quickly, just roll it up and it slides back into its bag very easily. Nice little mat.
Excellent quality product
Very lightweight fabric is good quality excellent for camping out
just a lovely camping bed
I recommend
First of all, the title in the description is somewhat misleading. At first sight you might be led to believe that, at the touch of a button or tug on a string the mattress will inflate itself with no further action on your part. Not so, this is not a “self-inflating” air bed!
In fact, it has a built-in pump sponge arrangement which requires operation by repeatedly pressing with your foot as you would with a normal foot-pump. In practice I found it quite awkward to do as there is not much depth of travel on the sponge and the repeated action of stamping quite an effort after a while. Also, the stopper of the air intake valve tended to keep getting in the way and closing itself.
After several tries and some investment in time I was unable to get hardly any air into the bed and it became obvious that I was not going to be able to inflate it using this method. On close inspection of the air valve, it seemed that the valve itself is quite flimsy, there is a little rubber diaphragm which can be seen inside and this appeared to be badly distorted to the point where it could not properly seal against the valve body and was therefore defective. I had to borrow a friend’s air pump and we did then get the bed inflated.
Apart from this, the bed itself seems good quality and I would think fairly durable. The material is thicker and more rugged than some and it is certainly comfortable to lay on. I am quite a large guy yet I found I had plenty of room and I would have no problem sleeping on this all night. It is lightweight and rolls up quite small so is easy to pack and carry.
As a straightforward air mattress this is ok and the price seems about average but I think the “self-inflation” feature is a bit of a gimmick and certainly didn’t work for me. Maybe I was just unlucky.
This self inflatable camping mattress is very handy to have. It is pretty easy to find out how to inflate it properly as this is my second one. Just place your foot over the valve and stamp down multiple times. It won’t take more than five minutes to get fully inflated. It is not the most comfortable to sleep on but it is just so easy to carry around and handy to have when camping
Having used this over a long weekend, it was comfortable and, once inflated, stayed so for the entire time.
The only slight negative is that it isn’t the easiest to inflate…deflation was an easy job, though, and it rolled up into the supplied bag very easily.
Overall, good value.
Inflating was a little hard on the hands however that’s likely down to my age! When u saw it inflated I didn’t think it was going to be any use as looked quite thin. However, it was brilliant! Really lightweight, folds up really small compared to other inflatables mattresses. Really comfy under your back. Would definitely recommend
A light and small blue or green air mattress for 33.
Beware of the expense when your child decides to do the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award. If you go to a shop to kit her out then 200 will disappear in the blink of any eye. You may pick up a bargain 60L backpack but then what about the sleeping bag, waterproof clothing, walking trousers, shirt and jumper (plus spares), sleeping mat, water bottle, first aid kit, eating utensils, and a few other bits.
To get a good night sleep on the unfamiliar terrain then you can choose this mattress or just a ground mat for 10, and I know which option I would choose, this mattress.
This mattress inflates in 5 mins by foot. The next morning it deflated in seconds after opening the air valve on the pillow. Once deflated fold it over and roll it up.
The mattress was comfortable to lie on.
Excellent, slept like a log. Easy to inflate, stayed inflated, did nt go down unexpectedly and easy to deflate. Bonus is that they come in a tiny package too that takes up hardly any space in your rucksack
Absolutely recommend: inflates super quickly; really comfortable; waterproof; large; and, overall very handy! Great price for the quality.
This self inflating camp bed was so very easy to pump up. I am 65 and it took me less than 2 minutes to inflate it. You must ensure that the plug is in place on the pillow. You take out the plug at the foot of the airbed and just pump up and down with your foot. It inflates very quickly and took me less than 2 minutes. It doesn’t seem very deep but it seemed comfortable. It is very long, at least 6ft long.
It is very easy to deflate too. Simply remove the plug and let the air out. I had no trouble rolling it back up.
Easy to inflate and comfortable for my Daughter for her residential, perfect!
A Decent Camping Pad & Bed.. Ideal for Camping & Sleeping on.. or Just Using to park your Butt on at the Beach, Picnics, or Anywhere else!
I like this as it has such a Small Footprint when rolled up, it won’t take up much room in your rucksack or car. Small & Light enough to be just carried in your Hand..
If your Camping out the night.. its a lot better than strapping the large rolled up foam insulation mats to the top of your rucksack.. a lot more comfortable too!
It’s about 50mm thick when inflated and will support your weight if you’re lying on it. Lean up on your elbow or knees though and you will sink through it to the ground beneath. Any larger pebbles underneath you will be felt for the same reason. It’s tremendously comfy though, even if it does tend to make some noise if you shift your weight. Insulation is about what you’d expect – you’re not going to enjoy using this in the winter, but for summer use it’s ideal.
It’s very easy to pack down again, and you can get it back into its bag with no effort at all. It’s very compact and lightweight when folded away, It’s very quick to set up and to put away again.
This is a very impressive pad, and tremendously good value.
Packs very small; inflates in around a minute through the built in foot pump and at a not too bad price. Possibly a little narrow for the restless sleeper but that’s only a maybe. Inflates easily enough and feels robust.
This is a comfort camping mat with a good thickness of 9cm so it keeps you well off the hard ground.
The built in pump also saves you a lot of huffing and puffing at the end of the day to pump up your sleeping mat, it only takes a minute or so to inflate the mat.
The mat is wide and long , 70cm width gives you plenty of room and the mat is comfortable to sleep on.
The mat has a built in pillow for head support , it’s a handy useful feature.
It’s not the lightest mat but it’s no heavyweight either , the pack size of the mat when put away in its bag is quite small, so it can be easily put into your rucksack for wild camping, trekking.
At 32 it’s a budget camping mat , the material feels quite durable and it’s also waterproof.
It’s very easy to inflate , it’s suitable for taller people too and is comfortable to lie down on.
Definitely one to consider if you are looking for a budget camping mat that is large and comfortable.
This bed/mat packs away neatly into a small bag so is really good if you are short of space. It comes with patches and instructions.
Inflation is harder work than I thought it would be, I left the other half to do it in the end as I was getting nowhere with it. It was ready in under 5 minutes though. He says he could sleep on it, he’s 6ft and 11 and a half stone, I found it dug into my ribs when I tried it and I wouldn’t want to spend a whole night on it. I do have fibromyalgia so I’m prone to pressure points and soreness. I think for most people this is a good sized bed that is easy to set up and roll back up. It’s definitely ok for the grandchildren, we don’t have enough beds so this is a great solution.
The price seems to be fair as it seems well made and as long as you’re up to a few minutes of stamping on the pump you’re laughing!
This camping mattress is referred to as self-inflating, but it’s not – not really. Instead, rather cleverly, it has a built-in sponge foot pump inside it which is attached to the valve at that end of the mat. So rather than inflating itself as regular self-inflating sleep mats do by opening up a valve and leaving it to fill with air, it’s your foot pushing on the sponge pump that will inflate it. What you have to do is ensure that the valve at the pillow end (the sleep mat has an integral pillow) is closed, open up the one at the foot end and push on the sponge/pump with your foot until it is fully inflated, and then close that valve, too. They claim it can be inflated in 30 seconds, but it took a bit longer than that to get really firm. Perhaps I was being a bit tentative as treading on the mattress is a bit counterintuitive.
Once inflated the mat has good support and it was very comfortable to lie on top of on a hard laminate floor. The pillow really helps as a good amount of air goes into that area of the mattress. As with any other inflatable sleep mat that I have tried, if you sit up, kneel or connect your weight to the mattress via a hard part of your body – elbow, knee, foot etc. then you will feel the ground through it and no real support in-between. However, just lying there it offers good comfort and support. What was also noticeable, and will be welcome when it is used on cooler nights in a tent, is the insulative properties of the mat as I could definitely feel warmth coming from it. Air-filled mattresses can sometimes be a bit noisy, but this one isn’t bad and I don’t think that you’ll be keeping anyone in the tent awake if you move around on it in your sleep. Speaking of which, it felt quite wide, which might mean it is more difficult to fit 3 of these in a 3 person tent, but it does offer more support and insulation underneath a sleeper as a consequence. Our current OEX (genuinely) self-inflating mattresses are narrow (and less supportive) by comparison and there always seems to be a bit of you that is hanging off the edge of them.
Deflating the mattress is achieved by opening up the pillow valve (and while it doesn’t make it clear) the foot end, too, closing both when the air is out. Confusingly, it says roll from the pump/foot end, but if you do you can’t then access the valve afterwards to close it once it is rolled up. It actually deflates very rapidly (the pillow end especially), but some air was retained at the foot end when I did it. This meant that rolling it up was not as neat or small as when it arrived, and I struggled a bit to get it back in the carry bag. I am sure that with practice it will get easier.
The material that it is made of is supposedly waterproof and is described as ‘heavy duty’ and able to take a weight of 200kg. The repair patches are probably for use if it comes into contact with sharp objects, but hopefully you will have checked your tent’s sleeping area first to prevent that happening.
I am not sure how well a repair would last and this isn’t really something that normal self-inflating mattresses of the style that we already have seem to be affected by. The mattress has press-studs along the side to enable two of them to be connected together to make a double mattress, which seems a good idea.
PROS:
Thicker and wider than our current self-inflating mattresses, offering more support.
The built-in pillow adds bulk, but it is very comfortable and being part of the mattress means that it won’t move around. Separate camping pillows rarely offer this level of support/comfort.
There’s a definite insulation effect to the mattress, which is welcome.
It packs up reasonably small and is fairly lightweight.
The novel in-built foot pump works well and the sleep mat gets more air in it than with a regular self-inflating mattress.
I like the green colour.
CONS:
It’s not a self-inflating mattress in the regular sense so if that’s what you are expecting and want then this isn’t for you. You might also wonder what the benefit of this is over a mattress with a separate foot pump – not having to take a foot pump springs to mind!
A bit bulkier than slim-line camping mattresses so perhaps less ideal for hiking campers and those with smaller tents.
Getting it back in the bag is a bit tricky, but I am sure that will get easier with use.
Slightly worrying that it comes with repair patches and I would question how long they would hold if they were needed.
The price of self-inflating or any camping mattresses vary greatly. While this is far from being a premium price example, those accepting of a bit less width/depth/support/pillow can certainly pay less. I don’t think this is unreasonably priced, but that will really depend on what features matter to you.
OVERALL:
Once I got the hang of the internal foot-pump inflating this was a doodle. Unless there is some physical reason that you can’t do this, then I see no real drawback to this method compared with a regular self-inflating mattress. While it took me longer than 30 seconds to pump it up with this method, it was still really quick. The built-in pillow is a very welcome feature and added greatly to the overall comfort. Being noticeably thicker and wider (without being like a lilo) than other sleep mats, the mattress felt really comfortable and it also was not especially noisy. What I didn’t anticipate but appreciated nonetheless was the warmth that came from lying on it as it insulated me from the cold floor. In summary, the plusses of this mattress so far outweigh its minor niggles. I am hoping to take it camping in Norfolk soon and so will be able to test it in its proper setting (I’ll still take the old one just in case). If there are any problems that arise then I will, of course, update this review, but so far I am impressed with this.
I helped my daughter’s school with a trial run of their Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award, including – for some reason! – agreeing to camp out for the night as well as leading one of the teams. My daughter had already nabbed our existing sleeping mat and I needed one for me. As I’m a big old unit (6’1″ and 17 stone) I was looking for something big enough to comfortably support me. This one got my attention as it is thicker and wider than a normal one “for people who have robust shape of the body” as the product info very politely puts it! In use, it was fairly quick to inflate – 5 mins or so – using either my foot or both hands (either side of the air inlet) and to deflate it the next morning I just opened the air valve on the pillow while I was on it and the air was gone in a few seconds. It was comfortable to lie on and wide enough so that I didn’t roll off it. Once deflated, just fold it over and roll it up and it goes back in the bag. I would recommend this, especially if you have a “robust shape of the body”.
This is the third “self-inflating” air-bed we’ve ordered from Amazon over the last couple of years.
Unfortunately one sprung a leak along a seam and couldn’t be patched, so we’ll wait and see how well this one does.
First off, I should say that “self-inflating” is a bit of a misnomer. The pump is built into the foot of the mattress, but you have to do the pumping. And quite a lot of it too! For a larger than usual single air-bed, this one has a relatively small pump unit. Unlike the larger round ones on our previous air-beds, this modestly sized rectangular pump took a surprising amount of effort to inflate the thing.
Once pumped up though, I was impressed with the comfort and generous sizing – even for my 6ft 3″ frame.
I was hoping that the little clips on the side would be of a standard configuration, so I could clip this to our other air-bed to make a double mattress. Unfortunately they don’t align (unless you want to sleep top-to-tail and slightly off-set too).
Overall though, I would say this is a comfortable air-bed, suitable even for a large person to get some kip on.
The currently advertised price does seem a little higher than other similar items here on Amazon, but is not outrageous.
Looks very big when opened for the first time like for a 9 foot adult as soon as its inflated it shrinks to a normal air bed size, easy to inflate and comfortable
at first I didn’t figure out how to inflate it but after realized that it’s pretty easy. during weekend it didn’t leak any pressure. soil doesn’t stick to material. don’t take a lot of space (when you realse the air put your finger in in pump hole).
We took this with us when we were really limited on space at the weekend so the usual campbeds we would bring were out of the question.
It inflated pretty fast and was really self explanatory on how to use it.
Lovely and comfy and good for my hubby who is pretty tall.
This is so quick and easy to set up. It stores really small so I can bring lots of extra stuff with me or this fits really easy into any bag.
The pump is fitted inside the air mat so you can pump it up quick and easily with your foot and no need for a pump separately.
The mat is very thin but amazingly comfortable for my seven year old or my massive body to sleep all night.
Bought for husband who seems to have been researching this for years!! Took the plunge and bought it. He thinks I made a good choice so thumbs up from him
