These are fantastic for me. I run on my own and I have always just had one earphone in so I can hear the traffic or if someone is coming up behind me when running down the canal. These are brilliant, I can hear everything as well as my audiobooks. The sound quality is good for this, I can’t comment on music. They can be a little uncomfortable at the top of the ears after a while but it’s not really noticeable. So glad I got them
I use it for Kayaking, Cycling, and walking. It’s also very handy as a hands free system when changing vehicles as a professional drive
Love this product exactly what I wanted. Clear sound, decent battery life and comfortable to wear. Hear surrounding noises whilst running, much safer and no loss in sound quality.
I bought these for my partner to replace an old pair of the same brand which were hanging on by a thread (and a good amount of parcel tape). They’re SO light to wear, the quality is great, and they’re safe to use when cycling or running in the road where normal headphones wouldn’t be. I did a lot of research into conduction headphones and these consistently come out as top rated, and it’s absolutely deserved. The perfect present for anyone active!
Good quality, shame about the proprietary charging cable! Please change this in future.
Buttons to control volume etc are really small – make bigger if possible.
Have had absolutely zero issues with these since I bought them months ago. I use them for running and hiking and they are great. Battery charges very quickly and lasts a long time.
I am genuinely surprised at just how good these headphones are. Although I hoped they would be for the money I the sound reproduction is very impressive, especially considering they’re not even on or in your ears.
Initially it’s quite a strange sensation going for a run while listening to music and also being able to hear the birdsong around you at the same time.
They are light, fit really comfortably (even with my spectacles on, which is a real bonus) and the only reason I notice they are there is because of the music!
Battery life seems good. – only been using them for about an hour a day for the last week and only charged them the once, before I first used them.
These fit great and actually sound really good , the bass isn’t that punchy but is acceptable .They feel really sturdy and the built quality is really good .Very easy to set up amd has good Bluetooth range .
I wanted Shokz headphones for the sound quality and simplicity. They fit well, are light weight and don’t move when I’m running. Sound quality is good but the louder the volume, the more vibration you feel. I can put up with that when running. I bought them from Amazon as I read lots of bad reviews on Customer Service from Shokz themselves. I’ve never had a bad experience with Amazon Customer Service.
Fit well and don’t move around while exercising. Sound quality isn’t ever going to be as good as a pair of in ear headphones but these have good quality sound while being able to be aware of your surroundings
Love these, they work superbly, love the quick charge time and magnetic charge connector. Sound is really good too.
Since starting running a few years ago, I’ve tried lots of earphones..wireless, over ear etc. Never really spent a fortune on them but over time having to replace them has cost a fair amount.
After getting an ear infection I decided to try Shokz. Wasn’t expecting much and I really surprised how clear and good the sound is. Its even very reassuring to have ears open to my surroundings.
Only had a couple of weeks so will update in a few months.
These are excellent quality & sound, I got a pair for my birthday 3 years ago & they still excellent but I spotted the new Pro’s in cool blue & wanted them, so upgraded.
My partner has my old ones & I love my new ones. Highly recommend **
he only thing I do not like is that it is not possible to wear them with a hat or lay in them, so they are just for sports-active life, not universal for all type of activities
Had it for a week and working really well so far. I hope it lasts longer than the two cheaper sets, from lower in the companies product range, one failed completely after 6 months and the had a fault develop after 7 that made it sound like bells were ringing whatever I listened to.
Having used AfterShokz (now rebranded as ‘Shokz’) Trekz Titanium pretty much 2 hours a day every day since 2019 (I use them to listen to audiobooks & podcasts when walking the dog) and finding them really good, when the battery life started to get short & the battery started to inflate on my Trekz Ti, I decided it was time to replace them with something new.
Lots of the issues I had with the older headset (mildly uncomfortable with hoods, fiddly buttons, a lack of bass, tricky to charge) have been solved with this headset. The fit is better with this – and I love the magnetic charging cable (just a shame it’s quite so short). The sound quality is way better – I might even consider listening to Music on this although I feel like they are best suited to spoken word rather than music due to the way the bone conduction works. Plus this version has an app that allows you to update the firmware but also set different EQ.
So a worthy upgrade to the older Aftershokz to the new ‘Shokz’.
These are now my 3rd pair of Shokz headphones having now upgraded to these from the Openrun (non pro) version.
They have in my opinion a better, more open sound than the previous with slightly enhanced bass response and cleaner sounding treble. For me worth the upgrade although some people may decide the previous generation are good enough to not warrant upgrading.
I use these primarily for running as they are a must have to be able to confidently run on roads or in busy areas allowing me to hear my surroundings as well as my own breathing! I do sometimes wear them around the house so I can hear when I am being spoken to.
At present bone conduction headphones will never “out do” in ear type for sound quality and bass response and if you are considering these Open Run Pro headphones for this reason I’m afraid you are missing the point, they cannot compete in this category alone. If quality is all you are after then I would suggest Sony, Bose, Apple etc.
But if you will be using these for any form of exercise or cannot have things in your ears then I believe you will like these a lot. When I use them for running they never move at all and have been used in the rain with no problems.
Battery life is very good as is the quality of the headphones themselves.
All in a great open headphone which for me will continue to be my go to running headphones and I’m sure I will upgrade when the next version comes out.
I don’t normally write reviews but I’m so impressed with these headphones I felt I should as I was unsure myself before purchasing them. I’ve tried every type of headphones to run in, AP pros, earbuds, in ear headphones that hook around the ear, wired etc but have always struggled with either moving and constantly pushing them back in, a muffled vibration when running and not being able to hear my surroundings. These openrun pros fix all of that. I read reviews that said the sound quality isn’t the best but it’s amazing considering these sit on the outside of your ear, you can hear cars behind, people speaking as you pass and can talk to running partners running next to you..all while the music is playing inside your head. No idea how the bone conducting tech works but it’s brilliant. People have also mentioned you can’t hear the music as well when in heavy traffic or passing loud roadworks etc but isn’t that the point. I found it was just finding a balance between the sound level and still being able hear traffic clearly. If your on the fence like I was I would highly recommend trying these, it’s hard to describe just how good they are. Fast charging, long battery life, super easy to set up and use one of the best pieces of training tech I’ve purchased!
I do quite a lot of walking and like to listen to podcasts when doing so. Over the last few years I have finally managed to wear out the 3.5mm headphone jack on my phone (I also wore out more than one set of wired headphones). As such, I was forced to take the plunge and go wireless and I’m glad I did.
This headset is simply ideal for use as a ‘sports’ headset, especially outdoors. It’s light, cordless and so far has been very rugged. To me it is almost a perfect wireless sports headset.
The bone conduction technology is very effective, making for extremely clear spoken word and pretty decent music reproduction. Despite the promotion of the bass capabilities, this is not going to match regular earbuds for deep bass reproduction but in my opinion it is more than ‘good enough’ especially if outdoors and/or doing sports activity. They would not be my first choice for audiophile listening but for activity use, absolutely no quibbles.
The sound doesn’t ‘feel’ all that different from standard headphones … before I first tried them I thought that they might give a sort of ‘disembodied’ sound but really, they could just as easily be normal headphones. I had read people complaining about the transducers ‘tickling’ the temples but I’ve only managed to reproduce this feeling by turning them up to max volume with loud source material. Even then, it wasn’t a particular discomfort. Talking of loudness, they don’t seem to go as subjectively loud as most headphones but they sort of don’t ‘need’ to as the sound is just conducted into your eardrums via your skull. I have no complaints, anyway. Possibly when it comes to loud music they might even be ‘safer’ for the ear than normal phones too but I’m not qualified to give an expert opinion on that.
Because your ears aren’t obstructed, you can hear everything going on around you (unless masked by the audio you are playing). This is very useful for outdoor use if you are cycling or walking/running near traffic and offers a real safety benefit. Also, because the headset is very light you can keep wearing it and still interact with people, unlike say, earbuds that you might have to remove to talk to someone. It’s easy to forget that you are in fact wearing headphones.
This ears-unblocked design also has an interesting ‘inverse’ application where you can use a set of standard, cheap noise blocking earplugs to exclude external noise but still allow you to hear the headphones perfectly. If you are working in a noise-hazard environment where you need to use plugs, this can be useful.
Aside from headphone use, it also supports the functions of a telephone headset. It works really well for this, in fact its my preferred bluetooth headset for hands-free use on my phone because of its lightness and open-ears design, allowing you to wear it for long periods. Speech comes though really clearly on the phones and the microphone has worked well even in relatively noise environments too. There’s a multifunction button on the left transducer which lets you control audio playback and answer calls etc.
Battery life is decent enough – I’ve never run them down from 100% to empty but have had at least 5 hours listening with the battery level remaining ‘medium’ (when you power on the phones you get an audible notification of battery level). I think the claimed life is something like 7 hours or so which seems reasonable. One strange thing is that they don’t seem to have an auto-timeout when you disconnect or if they do, it’s a long time. I guess that could lead to them being inadvertantly depleted of battery if you forget to power them down.
The headphones themselves are very robust – there is a strong, slim ‘band’ (almost like a thick wire) that goes behind the back of your head to clamp the bone conduction units to the area of your temples. For me, this has fitted really well and with the right amount of clamping force. It’s not adjustable though so I guess you might experience issues depending on the dimensions of your head. My guess is that they have targeted the most common head size. In any case, the whole setup feels very robust and seems unlikely to break.
The bone conduction transducers are pretty much sealed (there do seem to be some grills for bass) so they seem a lot more durable than foam pads or rubber tips as typically found on regular ‘phones. There is a degree or water resistance (or sweat I guess) which gives me confidence that they are not going to self destruct if it rains or I get really sweaty. The design makes it really easy to clean the headphones after use – just wipe them down. I absolutely would not want to get them submerged in water, however. The manufacturers do have a dedicated fully waterproof swimming MP3 player based on similar tech which I am probably going to buy too.
There is a fair degree of sound leakage compared to earbuds but not likely to be a problem for sports or when outdoors. Not ideal if you are sitting next to someone or maybe in a small office though.
Overall, I think these are absolutely superb for the purpose of sports/activity, indoors or outdoors. Also great if you want something that you can wear for long periods of time and that doesn’t inhibit your ability to hear the world around you. As I said, they are so good that I will most likely take the plunge and get their swimming mp3 headset for use in the pool. I am only sorry I didn’t take the leap and adopt this technology sooner. Even though they are quite pricey I think they are well worth it and they should last many years.
I wanted a replacement for my noice cancelling, in-ear Bose ear buds and was keen to feel a bit more connected with the environment. I run regularly (in London) so with traffic and all the other hazards it’s good to be able to hear what’s coming! These perform really well, the compromise is the sound quality but I think it’s good enough for my daily runs. Either playlists or radio sound good enough and you do feel more aware of and connected with your environment. I use them on an almost dialog basis, the battery life is very good. I have used the phone function a couple of times and it works well, picking up the voice without any issues. I have used in all weathers with and without an ear covering head band / snood without any problems. I find them very comfortable and easy to use.
I like the style, sound and convenience of these. They stay in place while I’m walking or sitting on the train and because they’re not in my ear I can still hear others around me. I don’t really like the electric-shock feeling that sometimes transmits from the headset through the bones (which is how the sound travels) but it’s not so uncomfortable that I would stop using them. They are clearly very well made and high quality and easy to operate.
My train journey in the morning is around 2 hours and when I’m coming home in the evening I get a battery medium or battery low warning and that’s from a full charge so I don’t believe the claims about long-lasting battery life when all I’m doing is listening to Audio Books or Music and having the occasional call.
I’m mostly happy with them but when they finally run out I’ll probably look for something different next time.
I enjoy the gimmick this stands for i use this to keep me in a deep state of sleep with combined “loop” earplugs.
Now the problems, it “will” tell you “charge me” lower you music volume momentarily every 20 seconds or so. In my opinion this is awful use of software and battery since it does this not on 5 or 10 percent, 20, meaning it should last a decent spec of time, which also means if you are doing the same thing you get a free alarm clock if you don’t charge it prior. Moving on with audio, the beeps to play / pause adjust volume can feel like a thud on you sensory if you like your headspace. I personally think this product would be fine with no sound at all or an option to turn them off in the app with a firmware update.
So i did this review because i love these as a unique thing but also hate them necause they could feel so muchore in tune with peoples senses.
Having moved closer to the city centre I wanted to try these out. They’re a good fit and has decent sound. Perfect for when jogging through the city centre and you want to be aware of your surroundings.
The sound is exceptional and the fact that you are aware of what is around you while using it is incredible
I bought these to listen to podcasts while walking my dogs. I had been using traditional Bluetooth earbuds but didn’t like how they isolated me from the world and the dogs. You’d have to take them out to talk to other dog owners, and transparency mode sounded weird, it was just a pain.
These are a revelation. Comfortable, lightweight and sound great for voice use. Musically they are a little lacking in bass but apparently better than previous generations. It is undoubtedly passable for casual music listening.
But for my use case – they are absolutely perfect. I can listen to my podcasts and still hear what is going on around me and what the dogs are getting up to, and no need to take them off to talk to other dog walkers. They’re basically everything I could have asked for and I strongly recommend them to anyone else in the same position.
I bought these to replace my Marathon headphones that kept breaking. These are more robust although they cost five times as much. Sound quality is impressive and they are great for cycling as you are not completely shielded from outside noise.
I use this for conference calls, and for listening to music or podcasts whilst cycling.
The sound quality is not as good as many in ear or over ear sets, but I was surprised and impressed.
They’re quite “leaky” and can be heard by sitting in front of your ears and playing back across them, more than via bone conduction.
The band is a bit too big around the back of my head and not adjustable, so will catch on coat collars.
Not perfect, but worth the cost, especially for cyclists or any who need to keep their ears open.
Battery life impressive and quick to recharge.
Exceeded my expectations. With excessive sweating during runs I managed to destroy several different sport headsets previously. Decided to give a try to bone conducting. If you don’t expect sound clarity of over-ear headphones the product is perfect fit.
Purchased for my husband who has worn them all day every day this week. He has been reluctant for years to use wireless headphones but says these are life changing. They haven’t run out of battery but as worn all day we charge them every evening and this takes around an hour. The single on/off/start/stop button also is a bonus for a “non technical” person. Highly recommended.
Good battery life lasted 10 hrs so far and still showing good battery strength. Comfortable to wear and excellent sound quality
These headphones are easily the best I’ve ever had. The best thing about them is they fit around the back of the head, and loop over the ears, they have a stretchy feel to them and depending on the size of one’s head will fit well, yes, the best thing is that they don’t fit in the ear canal, and then block ones hearing. So for me in my day job, it’s important to hear what people are saying around me, as well as being able to speak & hear my caller.
I absolutely love these. I’d been a wired Bose earbuds user for years, and was wary about the bigger nature of these. But they have so many advantages. I use them cycling, running and around the house to listen to audiobooks, podcasts etc. Not being in-ear is a big advantage as they don’t cut you off from outside sounds.
Charge time is extra-rapid and battery life probably 4 to 5 hours. The stop-start button much easier to use than the old dangly Bose type. Very light – often forget I have them on. And often go to sleep listening to audio books without discomfort. I’d recommend them.
These ear phones if you want to enjoy your music in the gym or on your bike whilst remaining aware of surrounding events, particularly critical when on your bike. Sound may not be quite what you would get from the latest in-ear devices, however the latest version of the soft ware in the Pro is very good. One size fits all and head band is high quality and sound bars are held firmly in place next to the ear. Pairing with my I-Phone was easy and instructions are straight forward. Battery life is good. I think that it will also work whilst skiing – though I haven’t tried that. Great safe way to listen to you sounds whilst active.
Great for running. Comfortable and good sound. The bass isn’t what you’d get from the best in ear buds but you aren’t going to get hit by a bus you didn’t hear coming. Have to remind myself that I can hear the outside world when I run in the country and it’s quiet. Would definitely recommend them.
I know these are pricey but they are brilliant. You hardly notice you have them on, the sound quality is amazing. I have used them on 10k runs, training runs and gym work outs, fantastic performance. I also wore them on holiday. Ideal for use with Google maps and listening to podcasts by the pool.
I am happy with sound quality. Using speaking mode usually to prioritise the speech sounds
The OpenPro Run Sports head set broke after about 3 months, I filled out the claim form with a copy if the invoice and serial number as required about 10 days ago, they came back to me about two weeks or so later, they approved the claim for a replacement headset which arrived about a week later, this is a quality product with great sound, well worth the cost.
I’ve had these a couple of weeks now. They’re absolutely brilliant.
Very comfortable to wear over long periods.
The sound is very clear, the battery life is brilliant an when it does run out of juice, they’re really quick to charge.
I only dropped sound quality rating because none conductor headphones are just lower by nature but these are a great buy. So good to be aware of your surrounding and be able to listen to your tunes.
I bought these as a bit of a gimmick and that’s exactly what these are.
For runners, cyclists etc, these would be brilliant. They will stick to your head and won’t fall off. For this reason only, I give it a 4 star.
The problem is that these are not headphones to sit back and relax with, say on a train or plane. They are not adjustable for size, so when you put your head back to lean on a seat head-rest, they will be pushed forward off your ears.
Furthermore, don’t be fooled in that bone conduction cannot be heard by others. It is very very audible to others untill you reduce the volume down 90% like any other headphones. For example, once I heard my phone ring and I answered it. I thought my phone was on loud speaker with low volume but then I realized it was coming out of the headphones sitting a meter away on the table.
I don’t quite understand the bone conduction part because, these are simply meshed speakers close to your ears.
In fairness however they are called openrun so I presume it is meant for sports hence the 4 star.
The headphones are everything, just as the manufacturer describes. Easy to wear, stylish, light and unobtrusive. The sound quality is very good and the headset is really simple to link to any iPhone or ipad. Additionally, the recharge cable has a magnetic link to the headset and charging is fast. The unit, charging cable, a handy well made pouch for all, plus simple instructions come in a great presentation box. I use the headphones every day – they are almost part of me, with many varied uses. For active users they are almost a necessity. Did I say they are stylish and unobtrusive? I certainly recommend the headset.
Great for my runs, comfortable and I hear what’s around me for safety, also looks less bulky than my previous in ear Bluetooth earphones and they still work well with hats and sunglasses.
Got sick of my buds falling out. Tried multiple options, and nothing worked great for long. Got a pal with tinnitus who uses these and figured I’d try them for exercise.
Love’em. Wouldn’t go back to buds for exercise now. Comfortable. Decent battery life. Good sound quality.
Used with farming watch. Sound good but does cut out occasionally which is just annoying. Quickly comes back but just puts you off.
When running and pressing lap button makes a squawking sound which is very annoying when track running.
A good but not perfect product.
This is my second pair, first pair still going strong after a few years but I wanted a pair to keep in the office. I use these to talk on the phone in the office, when walking and cycling – you can still hear ambient sound. You’ll lose sound over 25mph on the bike, and they’re better for podcasts (spoken word) than fir music. But a great piece of kit.
Amazing sound. Comfortable. Works with bike helmets, buffs, etc. Brilliant.
Very comfortable. Keep forgetting I’ve got them on. Sound quality very good for exercising.
I’ve always used in ear Bluetooth headphones, I was selected to test these headphones and all I can say is they are simply brilliant. I’ve been using these for approx a month now on my Sunday long runs, where I live is quite rural so involves running on country roads, wearing these I can clearly hear the music or audiobook as well as clearly hearing cars, birds singing and everything else going on. The headphones stay put, are very, very comfortable to wear and weight virtually nothing. Can only say I wish I’d have got hold of a pair of these ages ago. Easy to recharge thanks to the magnetic plug and socket, they also come with a protective hard case and are beautifully packaged. Nothing to dislike about these whatsoever.
Superb quality. Used a few time now on my mountain bike and felt safe being able to hear traffic and dog walkers
The headphones themselves are very good, but do have some shortcomings. If you have more than 1 connection, mp3 player and phone, the play button will not work until you press the button on the connection you wish to use. External noise can be an issue resulting in not being able to hear anything. Battery life is not as stated. 5 to 6 hours max if your lucky. The multifunction button could be better, a simple rocker switch would be ideal especially if you’re working out as you need to be able to change or replay without almost having to stop to ensure that you press the button the correct number of times.
Really great headphones. Easy to use, setup is always quick. Battery lasts all day. Sound quality is great and is inaudible to others up to half-volume. Couldn’t be happier!
After reading so many reviews, on Amazon and elsewhere, I thought “let’s go for the best”.
And I must say I was very disappointed: the price is just not justifiable. considering the average sound quality you get. I had similar (non-bone conduction) headphones, like the Mu6 Ring, that had much better sound. Their problem was one of quality of construction: all that plastic is bound to have weak links, and they will break sometimes too easily. If only one could add some proper robustness…..
When the sound volume is increased the bone-conduction effect also increases, but most of the sound energy seems to go to the vibration of the device rather than actually conducting the sound through the bones. Really not convincing or comfortable. Excellent idea but the implementation still has some way to go. But not at this ridiculous price, please!
Bought for use when on my Concept 2 rower and also when out walking; both on the pavements and in woods etc. with my dog.
Found they work brilliantly in all situations. If traffic is very noise then they struggle, but I try to avoid having to walk in environments where this is the case, so not a problem. Being able to hear cars etc. in my vicinity, as well as if/where the dog is barking is a massive bonus.
I wear mine all the time now. Sound Volume not loud enough near loud, busy roads. Best used in quiet areas. Quality is very good. Sound tends to bleed, so certainly not ood if in quiet areas – it will disrupt others at full volume. I will buy another pair for running and gym. But not good for everyday use. Get in ears instead.
These headphones are the best I’ve worn and used for cycling and running. Great sound and battery life seems great. Quality product only thing yes you know you’ve worn them after 6 plus hours but it’s only minor and not a discomfort at all. Love them.
I was very sceptical about spending this much money for earphones to run.
I now think it is totally worth it. I was impressed by how good the quality of the sound is with these and how clear you can hear whatever you are playing while also completely aware of the surrounding sounds.
I bought them for running and I can hear the birds singing or the traffic perfectly, there is no wind noise like you get with earbuds with a transparency mode. They stay put, so no risk of falling off. I now also use them at home to listen to podcasts while doing home chores and cooking while still being able to listen my surroundings or even to take calls.
At loud volumes, it tickles a bit, but this is manageable. No, the sound is not as good as proper headphones or good earbuds, but for what it is meant to do (keep your ear open), they are above my initial expectations.
Daily cyclist using Strava for Routes , Heart Rate etc
Turn directions and Heart Rate heard clearly via Bone Induction and ears clear to hear traffic and natures surrounding.
Best purchase this yea
I have had several sets of personal audio devices over the years. These I rate very highly indeed
Birthday present for my husband and he loves them. Easy to wear good sound and great case to keep them in. I will be purchasing some for my self.
Very comfortable. Does not cut out ability to hear what’s going on so no need to keep, removing
A great alternative to earbuds and headphones. If you want to still be aware of the sounds happening around you then this is excellent. They can become a bit uncomfortable when used all day, but are comfortable when used a normal amount. Similar to how earbuds and headphones would begin to ache after a long time.
If you’re looking for the highest quality sound possible when listening to music, then you’d probably prefer earbuds or headphones. That said the sound quality is still very good and would be good enough for many people.
Great piece of kit, Good all day battery means everything.
I love the comfort of not being in your ears, big plus for me.
Sound quality is good and phone calls are exceptionally clear.
I use it on walks, cycling and also has a hands free when driving.
Will be recommending.
Amazingly this by-passes the ear drums! So if you’re hard of hearing due to problems in the ear-drum or outer ear you can suddenly hear again! The frequency spectrum is somewhat curtailed, unfortunately, but with a certain amount of juggling around it can be improved. The fact that it is ‘open ear’ means you can also hear the approach of cars – (until they all become electric)
Comfort is amazing but there are two fundamental issues I have found with it.
1. Wind noise. The whole marketing reason to buy this style of earphone is they don’t go into your ear which allows outside noises audible (if volume is not too high) mainly for safety reasons. So if you want to use these for cycling then it may be difficult to hear when wind speed is high.
2. Sound Quality. I have AirPods Pro as my go to and these are upper-end in quality but not the best on the market (by far) but these absolutely trounces the Shokz for bass and treble, in fact I thought they sounded more mono than stereo.
Also they don’t automatically turn off so if you forget like I do then they will remain on and drain the battery frustratingly.
It’s a 3star when comparing to traditional earbuds but a 4star when compared to like for like bone technology.
Great for audiobooks or podcasts but fall well short with music.
Can’t believe I haven’t bought a pair of these bone conducting headphones before now. Awesome.
For every day use, on the bike, out for a walk, in the office, working in the garden etc these are amazing. They are so comfortable. I just cant wear in ears for very long plus they block ambient noise. Over ears are great for immersive sound quality but again you cant just have them on all day or sitting in your pocket. These however can just squeeze into your pocket or hang around yoyr neck or sit on your ears all day. Just dont buy them if your loking for high quality sound as you would get from over ear or expensive in ears. They are not designed for that. I listen to music or podcasts all the time and the quality is perfect for that.
Leaned about this technology from my stepson and was delighted with how well it works. No more of the discomfort and inconvenience of “buds”. It provides a very good quality sound, although bass could be better, exellent battery life and a good blue tooth range (up to 30 meters when I am in the garden. Love it!
Great concept. Easy to get started. Good sound quality. A little overpriced at 160 and too close to Apple in price. At around 100 it would be fantastic value.
The audio quality is only 3, but who cares? Without this thing, the quality would be zero.
My only complaint is battery life, under 3 hours from full. If the gadget were a bit bigger and heavier with a 2x bigger battery, nobody would mind, but that would be an immense improvement. As a workaround I carry a phone-supplementing battery that gives it 2x recharges. BTW with longer battery life, this gadget and a smart-watch like Tic 2 is a complete solution to on-the-go hiking-biking.
IDEA: would someone care to step up and write a “software hearing aid” running on Android/iphone that would drive this gadget? It might be possible to hack one up using existing audio processor programs on the phone. IMHO this would be vastly better than real physical hearing aids, because it is not in-your-ear and therefore bypasses all those attendant problems (wax impacting blockage, discomfort, infections..).
Clever bit of kit, can’t stand anything in my ear and worried about any getting lost , so these tick all the boxes.
I’m very impressed with these headphones, they are extremely light, quite comfortable, and the sound quality is better than I had hoped for. Very pleasant to use. Of course, these leave your ear open to all outside sound (that’s rather the point) so these would not be a good choice for noisy environments, travel, etc. But they’re terrific for walking/jogging in quiet environments or anywhere you want to be aware of outside noise (e.g. traffic). That said, I’m not very keen on the proprietary usb charging cable – one more thing to pack/lose – but overall I’m very pleased with these headphones.
I don’t often leave reviews but I’m so happy with this product I’d like to recommend it
These headphones are very comfortable to wear – the most comfortable headphones I have ever owned. I forget I’m wearing them even if I leave them on all day. They leave the ear entirely open, which is perfect for sports situations or environments where you would like to be able to maintain a conversation. I no longer get into trouble with my other half for wandering around with my noise suppression WH-1000XM4 on, since these I arrived I haven’t used them. The audio quality is better than I expected and especially good for voice or audible recordings. The reduced low bass response makes them less good for music, but I was expecting that. In use as a headset it seems my voice is clear on calls, and the controls are limited but very tactile and easy to use. Multipoint pairing works well. A breakthrough product in my view, changed life for the better.
he sound quality is amazing, even though there is no contact directly with the ear, the sound feels like it is inside. The main issue I have is comfort, I wore these for over 20 minutes and after a while, they felt uncomfortable and became annoying. For the price, they are good, a nice case is included, although only a standard USB cable and a short one at that, which is annoying. Overall a good pair of headphones.
This headset works great, easy to connect and control etc.
I recently tried to use these on a flight, and there is just not enough volume to make them usable. To be expected really, just a bit disappointing.
I have a policy of you get what you pay for, & I did with these. They are very light & stay in place, even on my faster workout runs. The controls are easy to use, once you get used to them. Phone calls received were crystal clear, & once finished you are straight back to your music.
Perfectly good sound, comfortable, great for long walks –means I can have a soundtrack mixed at a level that works with everything going on around me. Enjoying greatly. Only 4 stars as it’s still early days for the tech — and I can tell when I press the phones to my cheekbones, that I’m losing a lot of the volume (probably cos I have a v small head :D)
If you’re active and want to stay aware of your surroundings. Also, incredibly comfortable. Highly recommended
I have upgraded from the earlier Trekz model bought in 2020, and the difference is evident. The new pair is much more comfortable to wear, more responsive to controls, is lighter and less bulky and the sound quality is also noticeably better.
There, however, some downsides as well:
1. Proprietary charging cable supplied without a spare (unlike with cheaper OpenRun). Come on, there can be no excuses for that.
2. Dual pairing (e.g. with your phone and computer) is not completely straightforward: if one source is playing, and another starts playing as well, the latter would not be heard. If, however, you stop sound on the first device and unpause the second, it’ll switch. This can be a limitation of the protocol, but is not explained clearly enough in the booklet or in the app.
3. The price jump is very noticeable. More than twice as expensive than I paid for Trekz 2 years ago.
The app (which is apparently Open Run Pro exclusive) is mostly a gimmick, but has a option of firmware upgrade, and it can be very useful – IF any significant updates would indeed materialise in the future (not a given).
Overall, it is a worthy upgrade from an old model or a first buy, but if you already happen to have another cheaper model from the same generation (e.g. OpenRun) I wouldn’t bother. The difference between the two is not worth the extra 40.
I am not your average bone conduction headphones user, in that I don’t run and rarely cycle, I just find wearing headphones all day five days a week eventually causes my ears to get blocked; plus I tend to get frustrated at having to take my headphones off every time someone talks to me so I thought I’d look into them.
After quite a few video reviews and actually managing to try a pair of OpenRun headphones I thought I’d buy these.
I was aware that they wouldnt have the bass response of my normal headphones when I first put them on, because of all of the reviews I had watch; which resulted in a very pleasant surprise when I pressed play on my music. Honestly it produces a well balanced sound, you can clearly hear all ranges with none of them drowning the others out; certainly, you’re not going to get the weight from the bass, but you can still hear it clearly and unless you have it on max volume the headphones don’t vibrate too much.
There is a spoken word eq setting but I’ve not had to use it on my calls as the music eq is more than sufficient for that, if I was into audio books then I might change the eq, but for my needs, I’m happy as it is.
They really are comfortable and barely weigh a thing, yet they feel sturdy (I’m calling witchcraft here), so I’m happy to wear them for long periods of time. I do tend to walk around a fair bit and they never move at all, I don’t know what they’re like when you’re running, but I from the reviews I watched, they handle it well (which is surprising considering you barely feel them on your head).
I am now at that age when opticians start rubbing their hands together in glee and they work really well with a pair of glasses; for those that find normal headphones cause the arms of your glasses into the side of your head (I’m bald, so this is a thing), these don’t even rest on the arms to cause this problem.
In the office, at home or when exercising outside where you need to hear your surroundings, these headphones are excellent but for any environment where you’re likely to hear other people’s children whining/crying, the occasional “yes bruv” or other annoyances then get the standard headphones out and all your audio needs will be met.
Well, I own several headphone from over ear to in ear. AirPods Max, AirPods Pro, Powerbeats Pro, Beats Fit Pro, Bose QC I, Bose QC II.. Each are great but have issues for me.. So far the Shokz OpenRun Pro are helping with these issues.
AirPods Max – make my ears too hot and causes condensation in earcups (something that is documented on the web). I wore these only for work and sometimes slept with then on.. They failed me after 9 months. Apple Uk said they failed due to water damage and showed me a picture of the blue copper stains own the headphone band tips. They invalidated my warranty.. Issue – don’t sleep with these on, causes water damage to the internals and everything stops working
AirPods pro – nice sound, convenient to keep in your pocket. Issue – keep falling out my ears at the most inconvenient times.. e.g running on a treadmill, gardening, cutting the grass, gym work etc..
Powerbeats Pro – my gym/activity headphones.. Great sound. Issue – bulky case to carry around. Bit too uncomfortable to wear over long periods.
Beats Fit Pro – Brilliant in everything apart from the ear hook – can get uncomfortable and causes pain. Also fall out during the most inconvenient time.. E.g running, ears get sweaty and they fall out. Nearly lost one under the treadmill once.
Then I purchased the Shokz OpenRun Pro after trying on the Shokz OpenRun at my local Costco. They are comfortable, hardly know I have them on. Can even sleep all night with them on whilst listening to the radio. Tried them at the gym, running/cycling/weights – no problem whatsoever. Don’t get sweaty ears, no ear wax problems either lol !!! I have even worm them out whilst shopping.. Love that I can hear my music but also have awareness of my surroundings.. Love that I can jump into my car and the audio seamlessly switched from my headphones to the car bluetooth so don’t have to take them off.
Issues so far — the Shokz OpenRun Pro headphones app and switching with other devices such as iPhone and MacBook.. Not as seamless as the Apple H1 chip.. Have to manually disconnect bluetooth on these device and then re-enable to get to connect. The Shokz iOS app is a bit of a pain but then again so is the Bose iOS app if you know what I mean..
Anyway I am sure that these will not be my last headphone purchase but in the meantime they are my go tos for now.
I never tried bone conducting headphones before, I have only seen only 1 other person wearing them at the gym. My advise is to go try a pair… Wonder when the next iteration will be band free and whether they can be more like the Powerbeats Pro.. i.e don’t fall out because of the over ear design but 2 separate units.
This is the first Shokz headset that I have purchased and it makes my time running 5K’s go by a lot quicker. Sound quality is excellent. Do not need much volume to hear. Very light and comfortable and really quick to charge
Originally i couldn’t justify the price of they didn’t live up to the hype so purchased some cheaper 15.00 to start with. They won me over, but these are another level. They are so much better so much so i almost live in them all day, every day.
These are truly game-changing if you need their open design. It’s hard to imagine headphones getting any more comfortable than this.
You have to accept the compromise in sound quality, at this price point you can get some normal headphones that sound dramatically better. They also aren’t really able to go loud – they start vibrating a lot and the sound quality suffers. But at moderate volume they sound pretty good, just lacking in bass and higher frequencies. For me the comfort is absolutely worth the compromise.
No more migraines or nausea after days of meetings. Listening to music is as enjoyable as with a regular headset, you will never have 100% of the sounds but be honest with yourself you’re already listening to compressed sound with MP3! The microphone is very sensitive with a clear voice and a great noise cancelling. If you are using Chrome on macOS you might have to create an aggregate device for the microphone, otherwise Chrome will keep reducing the gain…
I didn’t buy these from Amazon as I wanted to try before buying, the reason for purchasing these is for cycling, I love to listen to music and podcasts whilst hearing the world around me.
Firstly they are really comfortable and sometimes I forget I’m wearing them, they charge amazingly quick and hold the charge for hours. Connection via Bluetooth is so fast everytime whilst used to be an issue for me.
If you’re a purest looking for high level sound performance where you want a certain level of bass or treble these aren’t for you, BUT if you want to ride whilst clearly listening to music, audio books or podcasts these are great, large diesel vans will drown out the music but regular road noise really isn’t an issue for these and they hold good sound quality.
The buttons on the frame control all you need re pausing and skipping songs, voice calls are also easily heard, so far I have no issues making and receiving calls. You need to buy with a realistic idea they you’re buying to also hear the world around you as well as listening to music.
Overall I’m really happy with the purchase, they definitely suit my needs whilst cycling, I can wearing my glasses and helmet without any problems.
It is an amazing product – I do not have to take it off when I want to talk with somebody just simply pause and I am safer on the street with cars as I hear them too.

I don’t often write reviews, however this product deserves one. For years I have been cycling for fitness while singing to myself. Now I can listen to music while still hearing the birds and more importantly vehicles. I was a little skeptical about how these headphones would sound and feared they would be tinny. Not the case, Sound is rich and full, Base is pretty good for what they are and can go loud too without distorting. Maybe they are not as good as sealed in ear headphones however you can’t wear those when cycling. Comfort is excellent and you forget you are wearing them. Fit fine with a helmet and glasses too. Recommended.
