Considering it’s a stand alone soundbar it produces great sound for movies with very clear dialog , the last soundbar I had sometimes voices were hard to hear , not with this soundbar, voices are very clear , with the option of low, medium and high dialog enhancement whether you are watching the news or a movie that feature works really well, I’m pleased with that because I’ve had issues with dialog being low on a couple of soundbars now, this is great in that respect.
The bass is good , but not as thunderous as if you had a seperate subwoofer but it is OK for us , I’ve never really been a fan of overpowering bass, so I’m happy with the two down firing built in woofers , they add some good bass , enough for a small and medium living room anyway.
The soundbar is loud , very loud , I mean how loud do people need it , it’s certainly a lot louder than our tele speaker and fills the room with sound.
If you don’t want heavy bass but want a louder , clear speaker for watching TV programmes, the pure sound mode is great , you can turn down bass and use a clear dialog setting and it just sounds a bit like a TV speaker but clearer and more pronunced, if you turn bass up in pure mode it will still sound excellent even when watching a movie , it will play the sound as its meant to sound but with no surround effects , it sounds nice , punchy and clean with excellent acoustic sounds and clear speech.
There is a music mode , it’s good for watching music videos or streaming via Bluetooth on your phone , I don’t think it sounds as good as a denon hifi would but its a definite improvement on TV speakers.
The dts virtual sound button when used in movie mode creates a slight feeling of surround sound , but nothing like using seperate surround speakers or subwoofer, but adds that bit of extra feel of sound coming from different angles, if you want the full on feel of a cinema surround then your best looking at the S316 or S416 or maybe the denon home 550 soundbar.
But this Denon DHT-216 is an excellent budget soundbar , at 192 its worth that, its quite compact too , the remote feels a little cheap , it goes off for a second or two if you switch modes so your best deciding on your modes before you start watching a movie , but that doesn’t bother me.
Considering the price and the ease of use , the good clear dialog and decent bass , not thunderous rumbles like a subwoofer mind but certainly enough to satisfy and Give you that cinema feeling , especially when used with a 65 inch screen like we have it connected to via hdmi arc, it seemed to take a couple of minutes to fully connect and we had to turn the TV off and on again and then it was fine.
Probably hard to beat for the price , especially good for dialog , acoustic guitar sounds , bass could be better and more rumbling but I’m very happy with this soundbar 120 watts power so it’s loud enough to satisfy most, great so far.
This is an all in one replacement fir a sound bar and separate subwoofer.
On the shelf under the TV, it emits great sound and bass.
Very pleased with this and at sale price an absolute bargai
Was looking for a budget sound bar for bedroom sound is much better than in built LG TV speakers subwoofer is a added bonus
This is quite long and I haven’t wall mounted yet. It has fixings for mounting and a sheet for marking the wall. I am using the HDMI for audio connectivity and can control the volume with my TV remote.
Only issue is the soundbar turns off if you pause a streaming programme for a long time. You have to go back to live TV or manually turn off/on.
Otherwise great sound for the price.
Been meaning to get a soundbar for a while but was holding out for an Atmos. But given the cost of those is still insanely high I buckled and got this on sale. Firstly the negatives.
1 The remote is laggy, you hit the button and a second later you get a response, not good
2 The ARC connection is a little fussy, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t, to the point I became annoyed and switched to an optical connection.
3 The bluetooth connection is again ‘fussy’ to the point it is actually unusable for connection to the TV, now I can’t check but this is possibly the fault of the TV, if I get a chance I will try it with something else. This is connected to an LG TV.
Replaced a set of Harmon Kardon Soundsticks which were too old. Very pleased with everything. Have a Samsung TV whose sound was tinny. Not so these speakers, with built-in sub-woofers. Cranked up Spotify as well. No degradation whatsoever.
Fantastic sound very easy set up TV remote controls the sound volume very pleased with this
Good value for money. The overall quality of the soundbar is good. The bass is quite intense, the dialogue is also very clear, nice options for different use depending on what you are watching or for the music. Highly recommended for small/medium room. If you need more power go for the version with subwoofer. The only cons is the remote controller a bit slower to reaction like put volune up or down. A part of this I am really enjoying the bar.
For the incredibly low price these speakers take some beating. However, I find the labels on the remote control very difficult to read. Maybe for a small extra charge it could be improved with illuminated buttons?
Set up in minutes. Replaced my Azatom soundbar (which has been brilliant but I wanted to have an output to a separate subwoofer) and tested out on an HD channel on TV with the DTS Virtual:X setting and immediate surround sound (by this point I haven’t added the subwoofer yet there is plenty of low end without it). The preset EQ are handy and set as Movie, Night and Music on the remote control. The main features on the remote are volume (naturally) and bass, which might be useful if I do use a subwoofer as well. The remote itself is built well but the button names are difficult to see for my old eyes. Aesthetically it’s a nicer looking soundbar than my Azatom (which will be used in another room) and sits on my TV unit nicely. I have no intentions of fitting it to a wall but brackets are fitted on the back of the units and the rubber units are included (see photo) so can be fitted if needed. I have attached a photo to show how I have connected mine. To the HDMI IN (ARC) of the TV to the HDMI OUT (ARC) on the soundbar. Easy. Aux can be used to connect any audio device. The optical In (cable included) can be connected directly to any Bluray player with an optical out. HDMI in for any device that has HDMI of course and the remote control changes between inputs. The Subwoofer out was what I was really after. I’m yet to try this with a big, loud explosions type of movie (J J Abrams, have any ideas? Oh!! ALL of your movies.. ok..) and looking forward to trying some good old fashioned music. Thank you Denon. You’ve not let me down yet and it seems you haven’t this time either…
Great over 5 payments on prime, but only little thing is it comes on when the TV is turned on so had to unplug when not in use.
I did alot off looking and reading the reviews,I got this product on offer and it was so easy to set up,it took me 5 mins . The sound quality is pretty good to be honest ,remote all good, did not hv to set it up for normal tv as I have a fire stick and no problems .for what I paid I am really happy with it ,defiantly one off the good ones all round .
don’t bother checking out any other soundbar you wont get better than this denon s216
Good value, excellent clarity, decent bass rumble for an all in one system.
The unit is easy to set up and sounds good on Dolby sound via HDMI cable.
However, I did notice some hissing with PCM audio, although it’s hard to know where this is originating (this device or the source or the cables).
The main complaint is that the remote controls are very slow to respond. Adjusting volume slightly is difficult in a way that I’ve never seen with other equipment; it seems to skip some button presses. Difficult to explain unless you’ve tried it. Same for changing modes, it’s very very slow and seems to need to ‘reboot’ itself every time.
The price (was on offer) the sound quality and brand… all awesome.. definitely would recommend this sound ba
Really pleased with the soundbar. Nice sound and has a good amount of bass too.
Stream Spotify through it all good.
Only criticism is it takes a very long time for sound to come through when switching on
E.g atleast 10seconds after switch o
The only thing I don’t like about it is the fact that if you pause what you are watching to do something, when you come back the sound bar has turned itself off so despite connecting it up to the firestick via Bluetooth you have to keep the remote close to hand as if you then turn it back on with the firestick remote everything else turns off!
Otherwise it’s a great sound ba
It’s my first Soundbar to nothing to directly rate or compare it against however I do know audio and have several fields of experience that do tell me that this bar is not bad at all.
By now we all know the convenience of a Soundbar and primarily this was my reason in buying it. I didn’t want to run the TV through my Hifi which has been built in dedication to music alone. So for the TV/Xbox this stands as a preferred option and it sounds great.
Apparently it’s an entry level bar and there are some more obvious points to that for an experienced listener. The main two for me was the volume control or ‘stepping’ of the volume up and down is not as sensitive as it maybe on a more expensive bar. It’s a little sudden and not a gradual increase/decrease. The clarity is very good, bass is plentiful and actual output power is easily enough for the 4.5m x 4.5m room I use it in. The DTS function is helpful for a semi surrounded sound but don’t expect 5.1 experience and so on. It’s ok for music but again this is not a dedicated purchase so it’s built to pretty much cover all the bases at a reasonable level of quality and it does deliver that. A vast improvement over TV speakers but that late not hard to accomplish these days. Overall it’s a decent bar that serves movies and TV well, gives plenty of more overall performance the the TV.
Adding a sub is easy but in small or average sized room around 5m x 5m you may find it to be overkill. This easily has enough power to fill up the room with sound in all departments of bass, mid and treble.
Bluetooth is nice to have but it’s the most basic SBC codec so it’s not great but again a convenience for many. The AAC Bluetooth codec that Apple employs would have really made this bar shine especially as it’s not a wifi able bar.
The remote has received some criticism due to response time but it’s fine just not instant and takes a second or two to respond, casual.
In short I would say it’s probably one of the best bars for the price, looks good, sounds great and for me beats have a room full of speakers.
Fantastic prime day purchase! A massive transformation to our current living room setup.
Took the plunge in Prime Day on this, previously I’d been agonizing about separates for a new TV (not in our main living room) and to use for bluetooth music streaming from laptop/phone but couldn’t justify the cost/space. This sound bar was easy to set up and connected with ARC HDMI to Samsung TV (2021 vintage) with no issues seamlessly. Truly blown away by the sound, really dynamic and powerful for both TV/Movies and music streaming, the remote provides some settings to enable an element of tuning also. Yeah it’s not 5.1 without the sub but I can live without that easily. Personally I couldn’t give a fig about the remote, yeah it’s a bit cheap but so was the one on my Technics CD player bought 20 years ago but who cares if the sound is good and it’s functional.
What are you waiting for?!
Great sound. Have played TV, cassettes and vinyl LPs and all sound great. But the remote control is shocking! Very cheap and there’s a delay when selecting buttons so you don’t know if you’ve pressed the button hard enough or no
Unfortunately, I have had to return this item.
There was nothing wrong with it and the sound was better than the buying price suggested.
Unfortunately, by just a few millimetres, the height of the bar obscured the direct path of the beam from my tv remote to the tv which meant I had to stand up to change channels etc.
This was just a peculiarity of my setup and, had my tv and the soundbar been wall mounted, there would have been no problem – I would most certainly have kept it.
As it is, I have reluctantly had to send it back and hope I can find another as good but slightly lower!
I’ve had the soundbar for a few days and I’ve beyond impressed with it!
The soundstage the soundbar creates is grand, it fills the room without being overpowering. The soundbar has clear audio, great base, and awesome sound balance that allows you to hear things without having to constantly putting the volume up and down.
The Dolby Digital support creates a very impressive surround sound feel (as long as you’re facing in front of it) which doesn’t get boring. I’ve watched a few films and played a few story driven games and the sound simply makes everything more epic.
This soundbar doesn’t support Atmos or any other new technologies like Airplay however there is Bluetooth support which allows you to stream music to it. Listening music on this soundbar is a joy, music really sounds wonderful and I’ll definitely continue to play music on this.
Only thing I don’t like is the remote is rather simply – this may be something you might like. Also when you do change mode using the given remote, the soundbar does go silent for a moment which is strange.
Overall I’m super impressed with this soundbar especially for the price. I don’t think you can find anything at this budget that comes near this soundbar.
Our first soundbar and what a difference, the sound is amazing – rich, deep, fills the room.
The soundbar is very easy to setup (was with out TV) and works with normal terrestrial TV, all internet TV on demand station (netflix, prime, disney+, now, Apple TV etc. etc.), it also work find with movies running from USB stick.
It looks posh too!
The remote control is a bit small and feel a bit light, but it work fine too.
Was looking for a good quality soundbar for under 200 and did a lot of research before settling for the Denon. Delighted I did. Unlike many other soundbars this is only 6cm high so fits beneath my 43″ Samsung on a table without overlapping the bottom of the set. It has a full soundstage and surprisingly good bass. Also works very well as a Bluetooth speaker. Very clean design too and very well made.
Good quality soundbar, only complaint is volume is difficult to control, ie when phone rings, you have to quickly mute rather than try to decrease volume, other than that very pleased.
ive had a lot of yamaha soundbars but this little denon one 216 model knocks them all into a cocked hat the sound is amazing clear with plenty of bass goes plenty loud enough to annoy the neighbours if you want well done denon you deserve a pat on the back bravo
The quality of sound is better than our Bose- very pleased with it. Controls are easy to use as is the set up with the TV.
I wanted a sound bar for my home cinema to replace a cheap one that sounded tinny and as a bit of a HiFi Buff I also was looking for a sound bar that could also replace my vintage but awesome sounding HIFi as I wanted something with Blue Tooth Connectivity. With a limited budget of 200 I hoped this sound bar would fit the bill and I was not disappointed. This sound bar blew me away, no pun intended.
The sound quality is beyond expectations. Its real state of the art full bodied HiFi quality sound. It even excels my old top of the line HIFi system. The sound is just perfect. Plenty of booming bass during action scenes of movies that really shakes the room but also perfect mid range and highs. Voices are crisp and clear, its outstanding and using my Echo show connected via Blue Tooth music is breathtaking. Throbbing punchy bass that is just right without sounding overpowering and exceptional mid and high range. Music from Heavy metal to classical sounds superb, easily as good as a lot of high end dedicated HiFi. It only has 4 sound modes, Movie, Music, Night and Pure but they are just right for the source selected. You can also control the bass levels. DTS Virtual X provides an amazing room filling soundstage that envelopes you with sound and its hard to comprehend such a massive soundstage could come from the bar but actual surround effects that sound like they are coming from behind you are not as good as I hoped but without external rear speakers this is to be expected I guess. My only criticisms for this amazing bar is that maximum power could be higher. In a small to medium sized room I find that It provides adequately loud room filling sound with 4 leds lit out of a maximum of 5 so its loud enough to be so loud you have to shout to be heard but power hungry people or people with very large rooms might like a little more power. This sound bar can also provide perfect undistorted sound even when its at full power. The other criticism I have is the remote which is a bit unresponsive on times and seems to go through a lot of batteries. The Sound bar looks every bit the quality thing it is. All in all this is an amazing bit of kit. Real HiFi sound and sleek looks at a very competative price. the sound really is outstanding and exceptionally good. Perfect for movies and perfect for music. Very impressed indeed.
Not the best sound bar, but it’s probably the best you can get in this price range
The remote has a dialogue enhancement option which has three levels. Essential for my partner as she’s partially deaf. This soundbar is a step up from my previous one. Clear as a bell and dynamic sound.
Good quality bass if played in pure sound mode. Clear vocals and huge improvement on flat screen speakers.
Sadly my TV had issues with hdmi arc worked fine on older TV just my main TV so had to return. Amazing customer service from Amazon I have to say
The sound bar is much higher quality than the price suggests. Very happy.
Bought this to replace an old Denon Soundbase and as expected the sound is exceptional. The bass is very good for a standalone soundbar and having a bass control is a big improvement on the Soundbase. The various settings work well and there are just enough without going overboard, and the speech enhancement does a great job. My only two gripes are the length of time it takes for the soundbar to switch on when the TV goes on – sometimes it takes 10 seconds or more – or when switching between modes, and the volume control can be a little temperamental. All in all though, a great piece of kit and I’m very happy with my purchase.
Superb sound, and presets works a treat for movies, games and general TV would definitely recommend
This is a great soundbar for the price, giving a sound better than many that are more expensive. Setting up was a breeze using the HDMI e-Arc and my Samsung TV. The only downside is the remote – black-on-black buttons are impossible to read, and the unit is slow to respond. Fortunately with the e-Arc setup the volume is controlled through the TV, and the other settings I use my Harmony remote. Overall, a great soundbar that is well worth the price.
Great product, sound is wonderful, much better than any standard sound bar, and by far superior to the tv speakers.
For the price I paid for this – less than 200, this sound bar meets my expectations.
Love this product. Despite some rather picky reviews I purchased this as Denon is a quality brand and the price was in my range. Sound quality is excellent and voice enhancement works for me. This has replaced my Bose sound bar which is now in the kitchen. I prefer it to the more expensive Bose as sound quality seems clearer. Very happy with this purchase.
Easy to set up, just plugged it in the the HDMI arc port of the TV, selected in TV menu sound output as external Arc speaker, job done.
Arc control automatically turns it on and off when the TV is turned on or off. the TV remote controls the volume as well.
Movies – select Movie mode and dialogue enhancer High and its perfect for films. The speech is clear and effects are heard, Bass is punchy and a massive improvement on the TV.
Music -make sure you select Music in the remote or it can sound a bit strange due to the dialogue enhancer. When in Music it is very good for the money.
Other reviews giving less stars are not necessarily this model. this is the DHT- S216
In some ways this outdoes speakers and amps that cost five times as much. All you lose is stereo, and honestly for classical music that’s not too important anyway.
Il prodotto arrivato prima del previsto con un ottimo imballaggio. Prodotto di qualit ad un prezzo non eccessivo: bassi profondi e enhancer dei dialoghi molto efficace.
Can be used with my phone via Bluetooth for on line music
Brilliant sound Brilliant bass and for the money it’s an absolute bargain.
Okay I have read other reviews yes there is a delay between remote and the bar and again no LED display apart from a few lights on the bar. However for the price a great sound bar overall comes with HDMI and optical cables for the sound quality and price well recomend.
Great soundbar especially for the price. Sound quality is outstanding. Digital input makes it simple to connect. Easy to set up for auto on and off also. Bought this instead of a Bose and I’m really happy with it.
This is a brilliant soundbar for the money. It’s something I had thought about, but after some research, this soundbar seemed to be always be getting good reviews, so for the price I would recommend it.
Great addition to a flat screen TV and with 50 off even better. My friend has one that he paid more than double the price of the Denin one and he prefers mine!!
Great product easily wall mounted, superb sound, worth every penny
Bought this on the Denon name only, it was cheap for a quality make like this, I now know why. I am pretty old and had a few problems one being hearing. it was save my street having to listen to my TV. I am happy with the soundbar but it does nave a few quirks one of which when operating the remote there is a delay which can be tricky i think i will get used to in time
I bought this to replace a old reconditioned Bose sound bar that had died on me.
I debated long and hard whether I should spend the extra and buy the cheapest Bose option available or to buy this.
I opted for this one because of previous experience with Denon audio equipment and I can’t honestly complain about the sound at all. There are 2 things though that I’m not a fan of. Firstly, although it syncs with the tv, it takes some time for it to produce sound after the tv has been turned on. I don’t expect it to be instant but I don’t expect to have to wait too long for it to kick in. The remote control isn’t the best either. There is no visual on screen to show how loud it is or by how much you are turning it up. I find that I am over increasing the volume because the reaction time is slow and then having to drop it back down again.
The most important aspect, the actual sound quality, can’t be faulted which makes it a keeper.
This product is an excellent addition to the DENON ‘products of sound productions’ and what it provides, for its money.
It is really easy to install and compatible with almost every device I have tried so far.
As to the sound, in my view, DENON have speared ‘NO’ design failures or cut any corners to this product design and its production.
This product is completely mind bending amazing in its clarity for it’s ‘High’, ‘Midrange’, and ‘Thundering Base’. These all blended gives a wonderful experience and atmosphere that it delivers, even at it’s high volume levels. This product fooled me in how loud this product really is at only 40 Watts (RMS).
This product will enrich whether its use for your: ‘Home DJ’ing Setup’, ‘Personal Computer’, ‘Mobile’, ‘Television’, ‘Et Cetera’, ‘Et Cetera’, and ‘Et Cetera’.
Although there are cheaper products on the market that boast they are better or other customer reviews left to the same. I hope to all that read this feedback, which I have stated “you get what you pay for”, as the old saying goes.
It is in my view, that this product delivers 110% (One Hundred and Ten Percent). on all aspects. Therefore, I would extremely recommend to all lovers of ‘Sound’ and demand ‘Quality’ and most importantly you will never imagine my given comments stated in this feedback until you have one.
** Well Done DENON In This Product’s Production **
Good bass sounds Greatly improves speech. Exceeded all my expectations. Denon produce excellent kit.
easy to set up and provides a ready amazing sound. highly recommend this soundbar.
Excellent piece of equipment. Definitely improve quality of the sound. Off course is not the top of the class but in this price range is top class.
Great sound for the price and I was surprised by the bass output given the size and form.
My only criticism is that there are no wall fixings included. Even with some after market ones I had to engineer a wedge to keep the bar pointing straight ahead and not angled towards the floor. The remote control isn’t very responsive.
I had been comparing soundbars for a week and came across this. This Denon sounds fantastic. Don’t be fooled by the size of the built-in subwoofers, they definitely work, and work well. I was surprised by the lows they put out. And the drivers provide a clear, crisp mid and high range. This thing can get loud! The bluetooth works great. When the bar is connected via HDMI ARC, the bar powers on and off with your TV.
Pros: Looks, clarity of sound, bass, dolby features, bluetooth
Cons: Soundbar can be a little slow to respond to remote, nothing major though.
This is the only sound bar that I’ve owned, but went for one with good sound quality reviews rather than loads of extras and gadgets.
Denon is a great make, and this soundbar did not disappoint. Real easy to set up with great sound options and range of volume and bass.
I generally keep mine on pure setting, because I find it the best for just normal films and stuff. But switch to surround sound for films.
The sound bar is a nice audio quality when using in Pure Setting but didn’t like the DTS X feature sound, sounded just not natural to me. I am overall pleased with the sound when using DTS or Dolby from original source Digital sound, nice bass/treble balance. The only other thing that was disappointing was the remote, volume seemed slow to react, not as responsive as I would like but does the job.
Overall for the money a nice well made looking unit, sounds great when set up with the right “Pure” sound setting in my opinion. You can add any RCA connection type sub woofer if you want to watch movies it will give a bit more low frequency doing that, the built in subwoofer is fine for bedroom etc.
So to sum up
Pros
– Great sounding in Pure mode setting
– Well made unit
– Nice size
– HDMI Arc feature with HDMI in/out
– Lots of connection options – HDMI/Optical/Analogue/Bluetooth
Cons –
-Remote control slow response could be quicker
– Disappointed with the DTS-X virtual sound performance effect.
I think great sound for price, nice to have option later to add any sub woofer later, nice touch.
