Sound quality is far superior to my 90s technics speakers bass is pretty good for the size of the sub great for dance music and home cinema although the remote struggles to transmit sometimes
Got it delivered yesterday and got it set ups straight away.
It was easy to connect , and to pair it with our Samsung Neo QLED. Sound is clean and powerful, few modes (movie, music, night etc.) helps to get the best out of it.
Really happy with the purchase.
We have a 1 bed flat and this soundbar is of the vynal, for 200 quid it’s absolutely amazing sonos is the master at soundbars, as well as the soundbar you get a woofer that sits nicely next to the TV, I’ve paired my with my QN85C 55″ Sending dolby atmos across my living room, outstanding soundbar!!!!
There is an instrument based song to get the feel to see if any sound bar is kool for your chosen room. And don’t mock. You’ll be surprised
Madonna live to tell ( epic extend. Version).
on YouTube..
For me this is a really kool piece of kit with superb sound. I do agree the remote is a tad rubbish . But hey, it don’t really matte
My very old Bose system died a week ago so was after a replacement.. after seeing reviews on this one I got it.. very easy to use and set up and so far sounds as good as my old one if not better with better bass .. wireless bass speaker does take a few seconds to connect but not really a problem
Having owned / bought a number of soundbars, I can honestly say without doubt this is one of the best for the price range. If i’d known Denon did them, I would have bought it sooner.
Denon are / were heavily DJ / club / sound based, whilst not top level, they did & do bloody well. The sound is perfect, hi, mids & bass with this system is great. Toned just enough for films to have the low bass & hi’s that push through when you want and then then swap to spotify or youtube & turn it up – sounds great, & loud when you want it (my neighbours complained!). Live / Glastonbury sets at home never sounded better! Watching a film at a good volume gives full, wholesome movie film punches & whilst at low volume still deliver bass & sounds great.
*There is a 20-30 second delay when switching in on after the visual (tv, pc, game etc) – switch the other on first! This is not a problem.
Would absolutely reccomend this!!
This was very easy to install the sound quality was just a slight improvement on that which I get from my samsung TV and no where near the quality of my Bravia 5 speaker wired surround system. However the Denon advantage is that it need less cables and so is a neater fir for the front room. It works very well with the Samsung TV also and can be easily adjusted to the type of material you are watching.
It does what i wanted . A couple of things. It takes a few seconds to fire up and sync with the tv. The volume increments are quite large but that may be just with the sony. Overall good product. I like the improvement over tv audio
Brilliant. Easy to set up and the sound is fantastic. Have the sub at the back of the room but sounds like its in the front, great base. Had music on my laptop so tried the bluetooth and it was so easy to connect and played great.
Had a knock on the door on an advert and the dog started to bark , so must have sounded real.
Got the one for 167 due to a scratch on the top, the unit is out of the way so I dont notice it. Well worth the money. Best one I have ever had.
Ok so I have an old Panasonic tv ( maybe 10 years old ) no hdmi arch Audio out cable slot . So just connected it via red / white Jack plugs into old auxiliary single connection on Denon unit : mainly wanted it as movie / improvement on telly sound . It’s not tinnie has a good bass ( I don’t play it to max volume) but think it works really well .
Obviously it’s not cheap but two zeros are better than three . So I think if it lasts a few years ( fingers crossed) then happy daze
Great looking easy set up. Good sound once you have tuned to your preference. Let down by cheap remote.
brilliant sound effect for listening to tv. Quality of sound for listening to music needs to be improved slightly
Bought this to aid listening to dialogue on films as it has 3 settings. Bass a bit boomy but can be toned down.
Comes with dialogue settings also Movie/Night/Music modes
Easy to connect. I just plugged it in, turned it on and it came alive. Nice thundering bass from the woofer and gorgeous bright audio from the sound bar. Very pleased as it’s so good for the price. Probably ought to be about 3 x more pricey.
I’m not one for writing reviews at all but after reading the reviews on this sound bar it made my choice a little easier, was very sceptical as most people are, but once it was delivery and I set it up I had problems which I think was my own fault so done a factory reset and hey presto all working and I will say oooooooo my days absolutely amazing sound quality from the sound bar and awesome cinema bass from the bass box, I cannot believe I’ve lived without this for so long, I originally thought denon ? No name might be rubbish but hell no quite the opposite truly amazing definitely a must buy go denon I with you all the way on this one will definitely suggest you to family and friends
Great sound. Great base. As mentioned controller is a bit slow but, it works so who cares, its all about the sound. I love it.
Pity the remote doesn’t light up, or the labels weren’t a little clearer. Difficult to read in low light, but overall good value
Whilst the sound from the product is very good, some of the cheap penny pinching and stupid design issues, really drag it back, whoever decided that the light to indicate that the subwoofer is working was to be located on the back of the unit needs his/her head testing. The total lack of an lcd or other form of display on the soundbar doesn’t allow you to know how loud you have the bar set to? So they have a crazy guess which channel your bar is set to system of different lights lit up on the front to indicate the different modes it is in. Seems like a totally bizarre idea to me. The minimal space given to the cutout designs for the cabling to fit into on the rear of the soundbar, necessitates the use of the cheap optical cable sent with the unit as to the far superior one I already owned. So sadly whilst the sound is great the unit is let down by stupid penny pinching design flaws that from a company like Denon really shouldn’t be there.
This soundbar has really enhanced the enjoyment of my tv viewing. The woofer provides realistic bass sounds and the bar itself covers the rest of the spectrum, to the extent that I can now hear, quite clearly, birds singing, the ocean rolling and other sounds which help build a fuller mental picture of the scene. Most of this is not apparent when relying on the tv’s in-built speakers.
Another feature which I really like is the ability to turn down the background music when it is drowning out the dialogue.
Love it; I’m almost tempted to see how much better the latest models perform.
Pros: Good build quality. Easy to set up. Sound quality much better than TV speakers especially bass reproduction. The voice enhancement works well especially when actors are muttering.
Cons: The remote control feels cheap and flimsy, the supplied battery for it was flat.
Positive
:: Sound good
:: Sound mix adjustable
:: Easy to set up with TV and for Bluetooth
Negative
:: Keeps disconnecting such that sound comes out of TV and speaker with minor (and annoying) delay. No idea why and nothing about this in manual.
I don’t have time for reviews, but this is such a brilliant bit of kit, I decided to take some time to review. Connected to ARC HDMI and with the Wireless sub makes it not just quick to set up, but also tidy. No need for optical cable all TV and firestick remotes are working correctly without any setting up. It actually came with HDMI lead and optic lead. The later not required thanks to ARC HDMI.For a relatively small living room this soundbar sounds fantastic and more than enough. I like my music and, although I wouldn’t discribe myself as an audiophile. I am very please for the money.
I wanted to wall mount a soundbar so went for this Denon one because its sleek, the input ports are recessed, and it doesn’t have a power brick which made routing cables through the wall much easier. The sound quality is excellent, definitely a step up from my old panasonic soundbar. My only quibble is with the remote control, which has black buttons with very dark grey ink which is extremely difficult to see, especially when watching in the evening. They should’ve used white ink. Still, there are not many buttons so it didn’t take long to memorize them.
The sound quality is very good and great value for money. Very easy to install. In fact I think it took longer to get it out of the box than to install it . The remote works well but is very small and doesn’t show up on the screen when activated.
For the price, this is an awesome quality soundbar with woofer which has made a big difference to my LG OLED TV.
Pros:
– Easy fast set-up – just plug & play. Bluetooth phone connection was easy and very fast.
– Very good clarity on voice + a dialogue enhancer for clearer speech
– Deep Earth moving bass enough to wake up the dead! The floor and my ribs literally vibrated! N.b. Please check your neighbours aren’t in before playing your favourite rock ballads!
– Soundbar very slim & ergonomic. Fits under TV without obscuring picture.
– Good build quality without cheap materials
– Well packaged in protective foam
Areas for Improvement
– The controls on the remote would benefit from being lit up or at least painted luminously as it’s impossible to see the control markings for the functions in low light.
– The volume control isn’t shown / indicated on the TV screen although the TV controller works and shows the volume on my LG OLED TV
However, these are minor niggles and I’m very pleased with my purchase. Overall I think this is a quality sound bar and great value for money which I highly recommend.
The unit was larger than I expected but the setup was very easy and the sound quality is very good.
The sound bar itself produces a midrange and treble range that bring clarity to music and a rich immersive atmosphere to movies. The sub woofer provides a fantastic depth of base to music and a cinematic atmosphere when watching a movie. It was easy to set up and has a simple function remote control. All in all a great all rounder. Very satisfied with this Dennon product. A 5* all day long.
It is easy to install you will need to get to your tv settings if you will use hdmi cable instead of Bluetooth mine was under system settings put your hdmi eARC, or hdmi Arc in auto mode also consumer electronic control (CEC) settings which they are hdmi’s controls options, turn them on mine were off. As I’ve just bought my TV new. the hdmi port that I needed to connect mine was common interface hdmi port other then that it’s straight forward.Bluetooth subwoofer has connected automatically once it connected I could control it with my TV control Though its controler has some cool stuff Sach as pre set movie, music, and night options too. Great sound and subwoofer very happy with this system.
Needed a new soundbar as my TV speakers are dodgy.
After sifting through all available options I decided to go for this Denon setup.
5 minutes out of the box and I was sitting down with it fully installed.
Sound quality is great connected to my Samsung 65″ 8K Qled TV. Can even use my smart remote with it.
Bass is very good and easily adjustable. And the dialogue enhancer is exceptional.
Once the TV is turned off it shuts down the soundbar and back on again when you turn the TV back on again.
I only have one slight complaint. Sometimes after muting the TV the sound bar becomes unresponsive with the TV remote. But alas it’s easy to fix, just mute the TV again and unmute with the TV remote then all is fine.
I highly recommended this sound bar for its quality and sound and very easy setup when using HDMI Arc.
The installation was easy, sound quality is good and the general operation of it is as well.
The only small peeve I have is the length of time it takes from the tv picture appearing on screen to the first sound coming out of the sound bar. In my case it is ten seconds. Believe me waiting for ten seconds may seem a small time but it seems ages when you’re expecting almost instant sound. This is my first soundbar, so I don’t know if it is a common experience between different makes. It’s so long I nearly returned it. I was switching it on waiting for a long time then thought it hadn’t switched on, so I pressed the power key again which meant I switched it off. I found out by accident, or should I say frustration, when I left it on and the sound came out.
If you buy it wait when initially switching it on.
Apart from that minor niggle everything is OK and I would buy it again if I need to.
If you want more details of the unit than the start-up manual that comes with it gives you, then a full manual is available for download on Denon’s website
I must say, I was really quite surprised with the quality of the sound this can produce. Strong bass, voices still carry without being too high frequency heavy.
My only gripe, I guess, would be the lack of EQ tuning. You essentially have 3 EQ modes: Movie, Night and Music. There is no customisation other than turning the bass up or down. In movie mode, even at the lowest bass setting it packs quite a punch even at low volumes. Not a problem for general daytime use, but can be problematic at night!
For the price, really can’t complain! Would recommend
Whoever designed/engineered this Denon Soundbar and Subwoofer needs two things. A hug from me and a pay rise.
DHT-S316. I couldn’t afford it, but I’m glad I bought it. So glad.
The power and volume from such a small, two piece setup is immense! No exaggeration! But the quality of that power and volume! Jeez!! From Underworld to Vivaldi. Quality!
I saw the spec and was impressed, but there was no wattage output quoted. I thought to myself “It’s Denon, it will not disappoint”. It hasn’t. Their reputation for stunning Amps and pre-Amps from the 80s and 90s and music hardware prowess in general hasn’t diminished.
Highly recommended for people who love music, won’t settle for second best but also have to watch the pennies….
i was not sure about this from the reviews i had read ..but this a great soundbar…the sound is great very clear. subwoofer connect to bluetooth with no problems …no lose of connection for the price very nice .. i would buy agai
Had an item missing from the box which was resolved easily, the sound it great, not too much base and balance wery well, Denon did not disappoint. Using HDMI ark input there is a delay when turning the tv on, usually I have to press tv on the remote after 10-15 seconds before sound comes through, I did expect sound to be there straight away but I’ve not had a sound bar before so maybe it normal, the remote has all options but does feel very cheap. Overall…..it’s a very good set up.
I bought this Denon soundbar and sub when it was on offer at Amazon, I didn’t read the description that well clearly as I was surprised when it turned up with a wireless subwoofer, especially for the money. Overall sound quality is fantastic and the adjustments for bass and dialogue clarity on the remote are useful. This has replaced a 10ish year old Yamaha 5.1 AV receiver and Morduant Short speaker system which was definitely far superior to this in terms of surround imaging (for obvious reasons) but even with the best setup and speaker positioning, this Denon actually makes for better sound quality and clarity and is absolutely not short on bass either.
I have it connected via ARC, and generally use my Xbox Series X or Nvidia Shield Pro as sources. It gets on well with them and both automatically detected it over ARC too, and my Hisense TV directly controls the volume of the Denon. The Yamaha could be fussy with the order you turned equipment on but I’m pleased to say the Denon just works. All the time.
Very pleased with my purchase and considering another for the bedroom!
The ONLY negative thing I have to say is the remote control feels very cheap and not up to the standard of the rest of the system.
Overall I’m really pleased with this soundbar. It has great quality sound and has no problem with producing loud volume that completely fills the room.
The wireless subwoofer is great and does the job very well. It has worked flawlessly over the few months I’ve been using it. I have the soundbar at the front of the room and the subwoofer at the back of the room and it’s great not having to worry about running cables around to connect them.
I have had a few niggles that it’s worth mentioning:
– I had originally connected this to my projector using a 3.5mm analogue audio cable. This works, but has some small problems. When the audio signal is silent for a few seconds, the soundbar seems to go into a power-saving mode, such that the very start of the next sound is missed. Generally this is unimportant, but when watching programmes that have silence followed by short sounds (such as snooker), the sound can be missed entirely (the cue hitting the ball had no sound over and over again). This problem does not occur when using an SPDIF optical audio cable, so this probably won’t affect many people. I tested this on two soundbar units and the same problem occurred on both.
– It was also not possible to connect my projector to the soundbar using Bluetooth. Denon customer support said that it was not intended to be used in this way, and that the Bluetooth feature was for connecting phones for music playback.
– The remote control is a little awkward to use, with buttons that need heavy presses and labels that are pretty well invisible in a dark room. I have configured my FireTV remote to control the power and volume however, and that’s pretty much all that’s needed, so the remote remains unused most of the time anyway.
Other than that I have no complaints. I ended up buying an HDMI switcher with SPDIF audio extractor to resolve the audio problems, which was a slight extra expense but not the end of the world.
I had been wanting a soundbar for quite some time but as I don’t know much about them I was relying on reviews and research after a lot of searching I decided on this one and I haven’t been disappointed it has transformed our tv experience the bass is really good I also like the fact that you can alter the bass as well as volume a few people had commented on the sub woofer disconnecting from bar we haven’t found this problem and had it around a month now
I would definitely recommend this if your someone like me who is just trying to improve the speakers when watching tv
Had to get rid of my last soundbar (different manufacturer/brand) due to EMI issues with a NAS wich was causing pops/clicks on the subwoofer. Tried ferrite cores everywhere with no joy.
I know the above is a complaint of another soundbar, but the quality of the shielding or noise suppression in this unit shows its quality.
I have a very noisy electrical environment and the Denon has no issues at all.
Sound quality is awesome, great punchy bass.
Voice ineligibility is very good.
This unit has also replaced my hifi unit for music.
Highly recommended.
I just can’t believe how great this sounds and how loud it is. Required zero setup over HDMI with my Samsung TV, turns on/off instantly with tv and also works seamlessly with my Mac & various iOS devices over Bluetooth – plus I have a record player > amplifier > going into the aux so like others have said it rendered my (very expensive) hi-fi separates redundant. Films are now cinematic events. I have experienced none of the issues others have described and would suggest replacing if you’ve had any issues. My remote seems easy to use and response from it is instant. If I could improve, I would add on/off for the sun as it’s really not needed for most TV and a numeric value for volume would be handy. To summarise, beautiful looking and sounding high-end sound-bar for low-end price.
Been a skeptic on soundbars for a while. Set up took like 30 seconds with a wireless connection to sub woofer. Then boom! My viewing experience was a step change different.
Superb sound and the subwoofer is nice and punchy! Nice and slim, fantastic value for money
Very easy to install, sound quality is great. Works well with our Samsung TV
Great all round system very happy with purchase would recommend to buy
Great sound quality, easy to install and pair with Bluetooth. Remote is easy and intuitive to use.
Only negative point is the length of the power cable restricting where it can be mounted.
I bought it to watch your usual TV and movies.. but mainly to stream my music by Bluetooth.
Looks nice and sounds great.
l, I connected it using an HDMI cable and works perfectly well from the very first minute
Sound is fantastic, a huge improvement compared to the TV sound system
Great sound bar, doesn’t take much room and the sound is great. Nothing negative to add.
It was easy to install and has a great sound. Base it very good and surround sound it great.
Good sound and looks good, remote is slow but not end of the world
Finally found perfect sound bar. Great quality sound for price and really impressed with all round quality.
Very pleased all round. Price and also sound quality very good. Nice deep bass. Only small negative is the lack of function/tech with the remote. Needs a bit of an update
I was a bit sceptical at first as I had spent 800 on the tv and thought that was enough. I am pleased that I purchased this as it produces a rich mellow sound. TVs now are so thin that it must affect the quality of speaker fitted inside. Sta
Bought this just before Christmas and have to say I’m really pleased with it. Did a lot of research into soundbars and whilst I didn’t want to spend fortunes, I still wanted to try and find a quality system. What I’ve found is you think you don’t need a soundbar until you get a soundbar! Mine is connected to a 52inch Samsung smart tv and there was no problem at all with set-up. Sound is much better with a nice deep bass and whilst there isn’t much control over the settings, there is a bass control on the remote and also a night mode when you don’t want to annoy the neighbours! The Bluetooth works well to connect to Spotify on my phone and the sound quality is more than acceptable. Can’t speak for how loud it will go as I wouldn’t be playing it at a very high volume anyway because of the neighbours. So if you want a decent soundbar that doesn’t cost the earth but delivers good all round performance, I can highly recommend this Denon system.
The system was very easy to use and the seller was extremely helpful.
I have a number of Denon products and the sound quality is excelle
So would give five stars but for some reason the Alexa voice control has stopped working and the bass is ratehr heavy. However for the price its the puppys privates!
Excellent sound quality.
However.
Remote control doesn’t connect that well and it takes some time for it to start working with the tele after you turn it on. Getting it going can be a bit clunky.
The remote control is poor and very difficult to read except in strong light. Otherwise, this works very well. I never realised what a difference a sound bar could make. You must have the separate bass.
Bought this for my hard of hearing, 75 year old mum. She loves being able to hear the tv again. Not so sure what the neighbours think. Personally, I’ve always liked denon products so when this was at a decent price it was an easy decision to buy it.
Big improvement on the old one. Remote is black on black, not easy to read but overall, excellent.
I have two flat screen TVs in the house, one in the bedroom and the other in the ‘gym’. I have found modern TVs to be lacking when it comes to sound, often variable when streaming.
Having done a bit of research I found this model which was attractive as I’ve I’ve used the brand before and there was a deal on the price. I didn’t want to commit to more expensive options not having used a sound bar previously. So I bought two.
I’m really pleased. Easy to install and come with all you need. The sub is cableless and the end result looks good. Easy to control with the remote and the sound bar switches on and off with the TV. Both mine used ARC so only needed the hdmi cable, optical also included if that’s needed.
Out of the box I found the sub to be very strong. This is easy to dial down with the remote. In the bedroom, with soft furnishings, that was enough. In the ‘gym’ the engineered floor and spare furnishings made the sub difficult to dial down sufficiently. I had a spare piece of flooring which the gym equipment sits on and cut a piece to go under the sub. Marvellous.
I can also now hear high sounds and infill much better too. For example, bird song and an enhanced audio experience thinking of the chase scenes in the Bourne trilogy.
I’m now looking at internet radio to Bluetooth to the bar.
I read lots of reviews before buying this and only gave a 4 stars as ther are some minor issues but over all its value for money. Like the reviews say the remote is terrible and with no visual volume indicator makes it difficult to get the bass sound right. The bass does seem a little underpowered. When paying 200 you done expect the world but a better remote would have pushed it too 5*
This gives out a great sound for a reasonable price. Movies are really bassy and it gives a good sarround sound feel. I went for this Denon sound bar due to thier reputation. I could have went cheaper but I have not been disappointed. The night mode is good to reduce the base as to not disturb family or neighbours. The bluetooth sub is great so no extra wires floating about (still has a power cable). Also comes with optical sound and HDMI cables.
One downside Is the remote control. Its very lightweight and pretty cheap to be honest. There is about a 1-2 second delay after pushing a button before it does anything. Also when adjusting the volume it doesn’t show on the TV screen like bars iv had before. So you are left guessing where the volume is at. Apart from these two issues I think it’s great. Would I recommend it? Yes although do rememeber the slow and cheap remote control. If like me your OK with it then this the sound bar could be the one for you.
Product does not allow for CO2 emissions war against Chinese coal fired power stations. It goes into standby after 15 minutes which is pretty annoying. Rest is excellent.
Before I purchased this Denon Soundbar I read all the Amazon reviews and although some of the reviewers were concerned with the Bluetooth connectivity dropping out, I went ahead and bought it as I know from experience that Denon produce excellent sound systems. Once I had connected it up to my Smart TV via Bluetooth and switched it on I realised that it did suffer from occasional dropout while watching films, not very often I may add, but annoying still the same. However the sound quality was truly amazing. A friend came round and connected his phone using Bluetooth and preceded to play several tracks of music all afternoon from his Amazon Music and not once did it drop out. With this in mind I decided that maybe, I should hard wire with a good HDMI cable via the arc connection on the back of the Soundbar to my arc socket on the back of my TV. Wow! What a difference this simple change made to my sound experience. Not only in providing a permanent, reliable connection but the sound quality was far superior than the Bluetooth connection and also the dialogue was in sync with the visuals, (another problem I noticed when connected via Bluetooth to watch movies on my Smart TV). I now have my own Amazon Prime Music account thanks to my friend and when I want a relaxed evening listening to music of my choice, rather than watching a film, I connect the Soundbar to my phone via Bluetooth and listen uninterrupted to the wonderful sound quality of my Denon DHT-S316 Soundbar. I would recommend it to anyone, especially considering the price I bought it from Amazon.
Our lovely LG 65 in. 4k has always sounded lovely until we moved to a new build home and a larger living room. I know the standard flat-panel display speakers are usually not up to much, but honestly our TV ended up sounded really weak.
After about 2 weeks of researching, I settled on the Denon S316. We love a good thundering bass (me/ wife/ daughter) so choosing a soundbar at this price with a wireless subwoofer was an amazing inclusion.
Setting up was easy. I bought some vesa mounts and added the soundbar beneath the already vesa-susplended TV. A few adjustments to this so that the soundbar pointed slightly upwards (it was sagging and facing down a little – something I’ve heard is not good for the surround effect.) I opted for the HDMI-ARC method as our TV supports it, so the soundbar and sub come on automatically when the TV is on, and the TV remote handles volume/ power off too. Brilliant.
With the subwoofer nicely hidden from view away to the side, we were ready. And what better test movie than Black Widow on Disney+.
The sound is immense in the Movie mode. Loud, crisp, and deep. The surround effect isn’t totally noticable at first, but it’s there.
We watched a few scenes without the Denon just to see what we’d been missing out on, and the difference was pretty shocking: The old TV sound that we’d always been happy with was flat, lifeless, and almost like watching the movie from another room, with the door closed!
Over time, we’ve given a full test-drive, so here’s some of the goods/ bads:
GOOD
Sound: 3 modes are supported for Movies (surround), Music (stereo) and Night (focused balance). The quality for movies and music is way better than the TV’s own speakers. Not as good as dedicated separate Left/ Right speakers + subs (I’ve heard a few of these as a comparison) but certainly not bad for under 200.
The night mode is great too – it kind of flattens the dynamic range into a very audible narrow frequency range that still sounds great, but means you get all the sounds and vocals even at low volumes. It doesn’t sound amazing, but if your kids are in bed or you’re trying to keep the noise down, it works as intended.
There are 3 modes for ‘speech clarity’ too… it’s hard to really distinguish between these, but it does actually make a difference, somehow making all vocals more audible over other scene sound effects.
The build of the unit and ease of use are top-notch, as is the sound quality. And it’s plenty loud enough for a 9ft x 9ft carpeted room for family TV or movie nights.
The BAD
The remote. I hate it. It’s small, fiddly, and the writing on it is just really low-contrast. Hard to read.
Furthermore, the remote’s button clicks don’t really have any feedback on the soundbar to let you know what mode/ sound type you’re on, so you’re basically relying on your ears. Even some basic LED indicators on the soundbar would help – all the bar does is tell you the input device. There is no indicator for bass level, sound mode, or voice clairity level.
The only other bad point which is really picky is that the soundbar’s HDMI input on the TV seems to select itself as the default HDMI channel at times. This is fine, but as there is no picture from the HDMI as a source, it causes our TV to shut off. I’m sure this can be configured somehow, but for a ‘plug and play’ type of family like ours, this is a minor issue.
All in all I’d highly recommend this to anyone wanting to upgrade their TV to sound more like going to the cinema. Just make sure you have forgiving neighbours 🙂
Keep this simple – we are all interested in sound quality and build of the product. and what you are getting for you money..
Well got this sound bar for my bedroom tv – I DJ and have for over 30 years (am old) so i like to say i know good from bad in the sound department . I have the following sound equipment from Sony, Bose , Tannoy.
returned
Build Quality – Its very good (under 140 what i paid it was returned product scratched they said etc)
Sound Quality – Now i do not know in todays age why the big thing is on 2.1 sound (sound bars for TVS etc) I have a tannoy 5.1 sound system in my Lounge its 10 years old lol . The sound blows this out the water for movies and music . Its 10 years old ! not a fair comparison it was expensive 10 years ago. But its 10 years old my system!
so back to this sleek Denon sound bar
sound bar quality for music – I have to say its good The mids and highs for the price are good now that depends if you stream from blue tooth (from your phone etc) Blue tooth surprised me actually (its normally always rubbish) From the HDMI arc alote better as you would expect is alote better its a wired connection.
Sound quality for Movies TV etc .Remember i bought this for the bedroom TV not a cinema room.
Its pretty basic on features 3 modes movies – night mode – music – and 3 dialog enhancers for voice broadcasts .
Not going to go in depth on each mode –
movie mode – i would give it a fair 6 out of ten. Dont expect Imax sound effects and earth shattering bass lol
Night mode – its clear and wont wake up the house or neighbours at night. 5 out of ten
Music – Well this is Denon at its best . I like my music heard alote of 2.1 sound bar under the 300 mark. for me its 7 out of ten. taking into the size of the sound bar (not sub) its Good lows and highs.
finally the Subwoofer – Its well built – but again don’t expect High end depth and rumble (in movies) Its good enough for me for what it for (bedroom)
So overall a good sound – Earth shattering no – you will not get that at this price.
so my bottom line here is its a good sound bar for the money .
It doesn’t like been used from my tv with the optical wire it became hard work so I just use the blue tooth now and it’s brilliant. The sound is amazing for the price and I recommend it to anyone and it well and truly loud enough unless your living room is a concert hall out of 10 I’d give it an 8 because it’s not perfect but for the price it’s brilliant..
Poor interface delay on action with remote.
Very bassey. The remote is dark grey on black. Who thought that was a good idea but good sound. Music sounds great. Need a better quite function.
Bought this as a birthday present for my son who is VERY fussy about his audio equipment. If he is blown away by the sound quality then it must be a great piece of kit.Super easy to set up and being Denon you know it’s build quality is exceptional.
Would recommend.
Superb sound quality even for classical music and well worth the 200 in my book. 40 Watts is plenty for an average sized room and the sub woofer’s quite punchy. Easy setup, even for a technophobe like me. It did tame me a while to set up Bluetooth but now I can listen to music off my phone and/or Laptop.
5 stars all round as far as I’m concerned and even the wife’s impressed lol.
Love it, I had a Denon amp with wired speakers, which I’d had years. The amp gave up so decided to stick with Denon. I’m not disappointed either.. great sound. My only issue is with the volume control, you can’t see any on screen display. I know numbers are probably psychological, however it matters. I like to know what number volume, but there’s nothing to show. I’m sure I will get used to just turning it up or down to suit
I like also that you can control the bass on the subwoofer separately.
Excellent value for money
I was unsure about buying this but after reading a few reviews i did buy it it was so easy to set up was well packed in the box and seems to be well made plus came with all the wires you need. It sounds really good the only thing that would be good to add to this item would be a display somewhere so u can see volume /bass levels etc but it doesn’t effect use. really happy with i
This replaced my 5.1 setup. I didn’t want to replace my 5.1 setup but all the kit and wires needed to go to make more use of the space. Found this on Amazon and took a gamble.
Pretty easy to setup and comes with the required cables. Took me a couple try’s with tv to get eARC to work but sorted that and everything connected to tv sounds ace.
Remote is small but I only use if I want to change the settings to other sound modes or more bass so on as the arc. HDMI works great, main tv remote turns up and down sound.
I would defo recommend after having it up for a few months now I actually like this set up more than my old 5.1.
Nothing short of spectacular, I deal for a average/ mid size room. Deep bass provided by the sub and crystal clear sound and voice from the bar itself. Fantastic value. The remote is the only draw back as feels cheap and flimsy. But connect with ARC to improve this and use standard TV remote. Highly recommend.
Being a musician I’m perhaps too critical. The overall sound is pretty good although I wouldn’t say it was excellent. I chose denon because of the reputation. What really frustrates me is the delay from when you turn the tv on waiting for the sound bar to kick in and 1 handsetI find very frustrating – the smaller one that you adjust bass / volume etc takes ages to connect when you press the buttons and why did they think about putting gray writing on a black handset when you have to shine a torch on it to remind yourself what the bloody buttons do!
I purchased the above order hoping it would improve the clarity of speech sound in TV dialogue. Sadly it did not, making the speeches more slurred and over emphasising the high and boom sounds. I tried various setting but to no avail. I would therefore wish to return this order. I have kept the original packaging and the item would be properly packaged for the return.
I learnt that the SONY Wireless Handy TV Speaker is a good option to improve speech clarity. Is it possible to arrange for a part exchange refund. Please advise. R.Tomacelli
Very good quality of sound, simple connectivity and easy controls. Bass reasonable. Sound good at highest volume, although could go higher for the size room I have. Acceptable all round.
Good for the price, I got this because my homepods wouldn’t allow my PlayStation to connect. I bought this, good base sound easy to configure. Only gripe is that it won’t connect sound via HDMI, I’ve got a tv that’s practically new
Nice looking. Great sound. The only thing I don’t like is the remote control. There is a few seconds delay between pressing the volume and it actually doing anything.
I’d looked at various other brands such as Sony, Samsung, and LG, all of which quoted 300 watts plus of power from their 2.1 soundbars, so I was a little concerned about the output of this unit given that Denon don’t seem to quote any power specs. What drew me to Denon was their reputation for quality hi-fi, as I really wanted a soundbar that I could use to stream music direct from my phone via bluetooth, as well as for boosting the sound when watching films. What I can say is that it has surpassed my expectations. The sound is rich and punchy with a solid bass from the subwoofer, and the power of the unit is more than enough to fill the room (21ft by 12ft). The sound quality far exceeds that of my hi-fi and has basically made it redundant. This unit was more expensive than some more mainstream brands but I’m glad I spent that bit extra given how good it sounds.
Positives: Fantastic sound, no wires between the soundbar and subwoofer, separate controls for volume and subwoofer volume.
Negatives: Remote control feels a bit light, operating instructions had to be downloaded and are not fully explanatory, volume level is not displayed on the TV screen.
